Her lectures flow like spun fables rather than dry hisotry. Keep your nose to the grindstone and you will make an A for sure. Do not skip class, keep up with your reading, and ask for help with the paper, if needed. Make flashcards!!
Easily one of THE best professors at UTSA. I would be a pleasure to take another of her classes. If you can take her class, do it! Don't miss your opportunity to experience a first rate TEACHER!
Outstanding teacher. You will learn and have fun at the same time.
An awesome professor! Highly recommend, as long as you are willing to put in the effort required to do well in this class. This prof expects much of her students, and they respond to her style by delivering excellence.
Best history I've ever taken. I actually learned
Class is pretty easy if you listen during the lecture and take notes. You need to read the books though because she pulls out questions from the book. If you ask stupid questions, she will snap at you. She gives attendence bonus pts which help a lot!
She teaches pretty good, u have to read alittle, but the most important is taking notes and listening.
Dr. Pat is very clear with expectations she sets, and does not compromise. On the other hand, she will do whatever is necessary to help students succeed. You haven't lived until you've attended a "Come to Jesus" meeting with Dr. Pat.
Very difficult with tests. Enjoyable lectures.
She's a good professor, but if you're taking an intro class and you really don't care, then don't take her. She expects you to participate and understand, and all of that good teacher stuff, so if you want to slide through, pick someone else.
she is VERY interesting, very picky but you will want to go to class. If you have good attendance and keep an 80% test average then you dont have to take the final. I recommend her, it is a great class, good teacher.
Plan on reading all of her assginments, until you want to throw-up. Be prepared to research and write a paper on some boring county in Tx. She loves Tx History, I hope you do too.
Yes, she loves tx. history, and there are many extra reading assignments. However, the rewards in bonus points, and good attendance result in exemptions. I would recommend her, especially if you want to learn history. She is not easy, but worth taking.
Her tests are very difficult but you will earn alot just by showing up. And she tries to help out with bonus points.
I thought she was really hard because she gave us so much work. Way too much reading. Especially if you don't like history. If you have a B average then you don't have to take the final. That was cool.
This class was hard for me. She requires so much reading so if you have a busy schedule DO NOT take her. She does exempt you from the final if you have an 80 or above average in the class.
Her tests are hard, but if you read and go to class you should be able to pass. I enjoyed her lectures.
good teacher likes what she does if you come to class and get an 80 average on all tests you can exempt the final...interesting lectures
She was a hard teacher for HIS 1043 (pre columbus - civil war..) we had so much reading to do.. she took attendance everyday.. she tries to help out with group work for extra points and attendance points.. must go to SI's for more help on her lectures..
hard tests, but you can tell she wants you to understand history and why the war in iraq is going on
I think she forgets that she is teaching Tx history and wants to really teach about the AIDS epidemic in Africa, and U.S. history instead of Tx history. She treats you like you are in Pre-K. No need to buy the book if you listen in class.
She's ok. Takes plenty of questions and clearly answers them. Takes attendance and group activity points and adds them to your final average. Tests are pretty easy. But she uses "except" a lot in questions, so be very carefull how you read them.
Dr. Thompson likes to be in control in her classroom and treats students like children, but she is more than willing to help anyone who needs help. Just follow her rules, come to class on time, do the reading, and enjoy your "A".
she is a good story teller.
I learned more in her class than I thought possible. She works w/you and gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. A great SI is a plus. She's a fascinating "story teller" vs. dry lectures. I made an "A" but had to really work at it...that's what college is for.
She is fun and nice but the class involves alot of reading and the test questions are kind of tricky. I would take her again just because she made history interesting to me.
AWSOME teacher. i hate history and she really made it interesting. you do have to study and read some, but she is very fair and helpfull. she is great!!!
I would suggest this professor to anyone interested in this class. SI helps. Pay attention in class and read.... She is great about incorporating the past with the present. This makes the class much more relevant.
she is good at making history relavent, gives great extra credit opportunities, just make sure you go to class, as long as you go to class and read what she tells you to and review the notes there's no reason not to get an A, i got a 97 without even trying
she rocks. You actually learn, and if you do good you don't have to take final exam.
She was a nice lady outside of class, but if someone asked me to take her again I wouldn't. She does nothing but read from her notes And she depends on her SI leader to make her students to understand. Plus she gives three books to read and they are not the most interesting. :(
Assigns a lot of reading but nothing unbearable. #1 source of info are her notes, however. Make sure you go to class. You actually get points for going and have the choice of skipping the final.
PRECOLUMBUS AMERICAN HISTORY & INTRO TO WORLD CIVILIATIONS. Bad student (C average) & made an A+ w/o even doing reading. Bonus points for attendance & group work. Can skip final or drop test grade. Test info is in class notes. Ways to cheat attendance.
Great teacher and story teller! Lots and lots of reading from book and internet(read them ALL).Go to class and take plenty of notes.Test not too difficult, somewhat tricky but gives plenty of chances for xtra credit.2 pg paper not too dificult to handle. Not a class for slackers!
I think that she wasn't too hard, but too confident in herslef and the story telling thing was just not my thing. I failed two of her tests and barely came out of her class with a C.
Very interesting teacher, made the subject interesting. class wasn't that hard, not much reading, just take good notes. good teacher, explains subject well.
Dr. Pat is wonderful! She's uses real-life experiences and stories to illustrate her points. She makes you work for your grade and she takes attendance every day, but it is worth it. She keeps her students on track and is full of knowledge. I got a very high B. You will have some group work.
She was an alright teacher. But you have to go to every class. She doesn't have a lot of sympathy for you if you miss. You have to read all the readings!!! She tells alot of stories! But she is unclear on exactly what she thinks. I would not take her!!
This is the class for you if you care. She takes attendance (which helps you) and adds points at the end. Able to excempt. Extra Credit Points available. Great Story teller, provides examples in todays life
I enjoyed her 1043 class so I took her again for Tx His. She's great. I don't know how people say she's unclear. She won't tell you what's on the test word for word, but makes it VERY clear what subjects will be on the test. It's called reading and studying folks, you're in college now.
the class was fairly easy. you do however have to attend every class. but at the end you get points for it. Clear to understand and she is very helpful.
Two words: micromanaging ****.
She teaches under the guise that her lectures are the REAL facts behind history. In reality, her lectures were deeply biased, pompous, aristocratic and quite frankly bigoted. Avoid her at all costs.
She makes you want to learn. She loves her job, but she is kind of strict. But if you are going to take history, this is the one to take.
Great professor but VERY strict. I was sick on the day to turn in our papers and she would not accept. Received a zero on it so I dropped the class. Make sure you attend and you should come out with an A.
Dr. Pat is a good story teller. For those "PC" people out there - stay away, you'll get insulted without a doubt. For those who want to learn HIS from a different perspective - take her. Visit her in her office, it WILL pay off if she knows who you are. She will also give you tips that will help you throughout your college career.
SHE'S A GREAT LADY WITH A LOT OF STORIES, YOU HAVE TO PUT EFFORT INTO THE CLASS. AND SHE DOESNT ACCEPT EXCUSES, WHICH SHE SHOULDNT BECAUSE WE ARE ALL BIG BOYS AND GIRLS NOW.
Dr. Thompson's class gives you a feeling of a very tough fourth grade. 3 test, a paper, and a final. Attendance and a B average can give you a chance to exempt from the final. Take good notes and do the internet readings and you should do fine.
Good story teller. Tests are easy if you do the readings and take notes in class. Attendance does help you. You can even protest and argue with her if you don't like your grade and make a good case.
A good prof. who loves her job, but come on we are not kids anymore. requires lots of effort, I would suggest not to take her if you can not devote I would say about 90% of your time to the class. Also at times may be misleading, at times causing confusion on test.
It's not hard to pay attention in this class, she lectures in story mode. It's like listening to your funny old grandmother tell a really good story. Take good notes, gain understanding, test requires thought. Offers extra credit and exemption from final with 80 or better. Very interesting class, funny old lady, easy B, attainable A.
Very clear and concise of expectations. Very entertaining lectures while also providing all information needed for success in the class. Strict but necessary to adhere to a learning environment. Always clear on what was expected from the student.
very hard tests, excelent teacher

Clearly she has control issues. She treats her students like they are still in elementary school and insists on a seating chart for 300+ people.
a great class with discussions that clear things up. really fun to be in though a bit challenging when youre learning things that you thought you knew everything about but it turns out that you know none of the truth about it. makes me mad that i never learned the real truth in grade school

great teacher. you really have to pay attetion but it worth it in her class.

SHE MUST BE GOOD IF SHE CAN KEEP ME AWAKE AND INTERESTED THROUGHOUT HER LECTURE AT 9:00 IN THE MORNING! :)
Just know about the "box" :)
She is a great professor and a great woman. Very helpful, but you need to pay attention in class in order for you to make a B or an A. Go to the SI sessions they really help. I would definitely take another class with Dr. Pat, and yes know about "the box".
i felt like i was in high school ask to go to the restroom i saw peopl egetting kicked out for talking very old fashion but may be different for you
its a pretty tuff class and she really isnt that nice of lady. she seems to pick favorites but past that she will kick people out of her class and shes a nazi about tardies and coming to class.
you'll feel like you're back in grade school again. she is really picky about getting up and going to the damn bathroom! tardies, absences, etc. she's just weird. test are freakin' hard!!!
You're going to have to read & study for this class, you cannot pass the tests without actually giving an effort. We have assigned seats & she counts roll, but to me everything she enforces is common courtesy, like turning off your cells & not talking in class. I'd take her again.
OK JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE SAID, IT IS JUST LIKE BEING IN HIGH SCHOOL AGAIN, JUST 3 YEARS LATER. SHE THINKS SHE IS A GREAT TEACHER BECAUSE SHE "TELLS STORIES". OH BROTHER. I BARELY MADE A C IN THAT CLASS. IT'S BASIC HISTORY PEOPLE... SHE SHOULD NOT MAKE IT THAT HARD. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I went to class everyday and 1-2 SI per week. I got an A in the class and did not have to take the final. She has rules in class and is very blunt about them. If you do as she says, you can easily get an A or B. ignore her instructions and likely do poorly.
her class is really fun and interesting but her tests i think are impossible. she takes attendence but if you have less than 4 absences then she'll give you extra credit. i love her as teacher but i barely passed that class.
She's tough, but her class was interesting. Its definetly not an easy "A" but you learn some interesting info. She is strict and has a lot of "little" rules, she can even be intimidating at times. I didn't dislike the class tho, she has an interesting way of looking at the world.
Loved professors lectures. She had so many stories that she would tell throughout the lectures that kept students interested. Her tests were not easy for me. If you want an easy A, this is not the class to take, but if you want to really learn history and how it affects our lives now, take her. In my opinion, she is probably one of the best at UTSA
Very interesting. Took her in summer and she took attendance everyday in a 200 person class. Read the book and take very good notes. She also does essay questions that are difficult
She's a great TEACHER, as in she taught me things I hadn't known before. Go to every class, and you'll do well. The test are on the difficult side, but passable. Follow her rules, and put forth an effort. She's really interesting, so I never fell asleep.
Attendance is mandatory. Very detailed oriented in presentations to the class. Lots of busy work. Essay exams are not impossible and she'll raise your grade if you come argue with her about any of your grades. Her lectures were interesting to say the least and not to mention the many **** comments that she made throughout the semester.
HORRID!!! and this is coming from a college student with a 4.0 in my 3rd year. You damn youself when you take this class, she is a mean and hateful ****. She makes fun of students and people from houston, so beware!
She's an okay teacher and shes very detailed oriented whith presentations, but her papers are horrible and shes not very good at explaining asignments and how she wants things done and it is practically imposible to get an A in her class. We also had a slight problem because she made derrogatory comments so yeah
It is impossible to get an A in her class. I got 100% on BOTH essay exams, yet was apparently too poorly of a writer all of a sudden to get a 71 on my final paper? I don't understand. Every classmate I spoke with got a C on the final paper, which for me, brought me down a whole letter grade. She would not even discuss my final paper with me.
this class was very hard for me. she talks from the time class starts to the time it ends, there are no powerpoint slide to look at so you just have to make notes as she goes. the tests are very hard! but she is a nice lady and ppl seem to like her in class, but she is a hard grader!
She is a bit crazy. Main thing in this class is to attend everyday, and do perfect on her quizzes. It's what kept me alive. She's generous, but only if you earn it. If you come everyday, and take all the quizzes, at the end, you can be exempt from her final, and she'll add 3 points to you final grade. I made 2 C's on tests, and pulled of an A.
the best professor you will ever have! yea she is really hard but just listen to all the warnings she gives you and you'll be quite alright!
BAD PROF...she gets her facts all wrong! unexcepitble for a prof. nice as a person but treats you like a 5th grader Had I known this then I would not have taken her class
she keeps her class interested in what she is teaching. I love her stories
terrible professor more than half the class dropped the course after the forth week
1-2 pop quizzes/week. 3 tests/semester. she drops 2 quizzes and if all quizzes and tests average out to a 80, and you haven't been absent more than 3 times, your exempted from the final. the quizzes are essays from assigned short readings. Theres a whole lot of reading (20pg average/chapter). 3-5 chapters/test.
Very HARD teacher! She doesn't have any slides to copy down you have write as she talks. Sometimes her lectures go off subject so I gave up writing. She has quizzes almost everyday on the readings. She gives tests that are on her level of history...so if you are not a History major, i recommend not taking this class
She is an amazing teacher. She will help you with anything IF YOU ASK. The text book is a simple chapter book. There are quizzes every other class over assigned readings that are actually REALLY interesting. She is sweet and reminds me of my grandmother! She makes history fun just pay attention and you'll do FINE! She has funny stories too.
Dr. Thompson has the best class lectures, yet her mandatory attendance caused many students to feel that coming to class was imparitive to doing well. Also, the first test of the year included a memorize the map section for 50% of your grade which included drawing country borders. This is NOT an easy A, but if you want to major in History TAKE HE
Professor Thompson is very knowledgeable on the her subject matter but her teaching style makes for a terrible class. She can be very disrespectful of the students. I was in her honors section and I actually dropped her class because of how she treated me. I definitely would not take this professor.
This was a demanding class, but worth it. Dr. Pat is a great teacher and is always willing to help. Even so, she demands a lot from her students and expects them to behave like COLLEGE students.
Couldn't stand her, don't do it
Dr. Pat is an amazing storyteller! If you are interested in TX at all, it's a great class to take. A lot of reading and a paper to write makes it demanding but well worth it! She is like the Grandmother you never had!
I would advise that you do not take this professor. I went into the class a senior with a 4.0 GPA. It was one last class that I needed. I got a B! She is boring and gets sidetracked. Her tests suck in that they only have 33 questions. She is unreasonable and rude. DO NOT TAKE!
DONT NOT TAKE HER CLASS...YOU WILL REGRET IT MAJORLY!!!
This is the worst professor I have ever had. This class is extremely hard, and her tests are near to being impossible. The best advice I can give you, is DO NOT TAKE HER. Her lectures are very hard to follow and the way she words her tests make it very confusing. Again, DON'T TAKE HER. It's really not worth it.
Professor Thompson is THE best teacher I've ever taken at UTSA. If you hate history mainly because of the memorization of boring names, dates, etc, TAKE THIS CLASS. She gives a different perspective to pretty much everything. Watch out for the first map test, it's tricky. 12-14 one paragraph writings at start of classes. Awesome teacher. ****.5
AVOID!!
Hard to understand. She is never clear on her concepts.
Worst teacher I could have ever gotton. Avoid her at all cost. She is very hard to understand and her tests are impossible. More than half the class failed every test we took.
SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD(and ive had some pretty bad ones). SHE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH, NOR IS SHE HELPFUL. HER TESTS HAVE NO CORRELATION TO WHAT HER LECTURES ARE OVER AND ARE IMPOSSIBLY HARD. (50% fail every time) SHE SAID SHE AIMS TO HER CLASS AVERAGE TO BE A C! WHAT KIND OF PERSON WOULD CALL THAT A TEACHER!?!
The lectures were easy to understand but for some reason when it came to the tests no matter how hard I studied I failed! Also the one paper she asks to write is easy. Just know your facts and tell a GOOD story, be creative.
she is very hard!!! i couldnt grasp what she was teaching and it was just ridiculous. she is a "yellow dog democrat" her tests are nothing the study questions. it was bad. dont take this class
Prof. Thompson is a really cool lady. She is funny but she is also serious. She expects you to read and study. Lectures are usually good and the reading is very simple. Contrary to some others I found the class to be very easy. Some reading quizzes and four tests. Come to class every time and ask questions, you should get an A in her class.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!! she is very unclear, her tests are impossible. Expects you to take notes on what she thinks is important, but does not express her important points. Quizzes every class over the readings, and a hard grader
She's very unclear. She jumps around from point to point and tells lonnnnnng random stories that don't even relate to what she's teaching about. Her tests are very difficult and she contradicts what the book said A LOT. She says the test will be over the assignment questions but they're not. The paper is the onlY thing that saved me. Don't get her!
There's a reason 1/2 the students drop within the first week. If you are an Education major, AVOID!!!!
There's a reason 1/2 the students drop within the first week. If you are an Education major, AVOID!!!! Thay say it takes 4 good proffesors to make up for that one bad one, let me tell you it has taken alot more than 4 to make up for this one!
Stay away from this lady. She is the hardest professor one could ever have. DO not get her unless you want to screw up your GPA. Her tests has a bunch of "EXCEPT" questions that are very confusing. Going to her office hours is like talking to myself in the mirror. Take my warning!!!!
I ABSOLUTELY HATED THIS TEACHER. SHE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE STUDENTS! How can anyone consider her a professor? She is disrespectful, obnoxious, and treats the students like almost middle schoolers. IT IS RIDICULOUS. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID.
She's strict but fair. Overall a good teacher
her test are very confusing and HARD. her class is middle school over again & attendance is MANDATORY. horrible AVOIDDDDD.
Not very helpful
Going to class is mandatory and extremely helpful. If you listen to her lectures, take alright notes, and read the small stories in the book you'll get an A. There is a paper, but it is not difficult at all. This class is really easy even though it is filled with a lot of slackers. She is a very helpful teacher if you show some effort.
two words..... seating chart
Seating chart, kinda dumb but adds on points to your final grade if you miss less than 3 classes. Reading is a MUST--you can't pass this class without reading the book. quizzes almost every day from the book. Shes a GREAT professor, I've learned a lot.Comes off very strict but really a nice lady.1st test is drawing the countries of the world. STUDY!
Not the easiest of professors if you are looking for an easy A however I would recommend her to history majors because she knows her stuff and is not boring. She teaches history in a narrative manner.
This teacher is strict attendance is mandatory... test are right from notes one book and going to class pays off in the end
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! If you want an easy A, this is not the class for you. She gives hard tests, without a study guide or any other guidance. She is absent a lot due to silly personal reasons, causing tests to be taken early. She also is very unorganized, does not go by the syllabus. OH, and she says her goal is to offend you. DO NOT TAKE.
Hard class not for non-history majors. Takes lots of reading and time in this class! Don't expect her to be nice because she isn't. She does treat her students like they are in middle school, yet she wants us to be responsible for so much information. Wish she would rethink her teaching policies!
Quizzes every week, essay style. Class attendance is mandatory. no-makeups and she doesnt care what excuse you might have, basically it's not her problem. Don't take, choose someone else, especially if you do not like history.
Good Professor, I took World Civ with her in the Fall semester. Her lecturing style is great, she gives you the important trends and events that shaped our world, not just filler stuff ie; dates, names, locations. I would suggest getting a seat up front if possible. I never needed or read the main textbook, but the other (short writings)is a must.
Very difficult class, it takes a lot of dedication. But if you are interested in history and want to learn SOMETHING, take her. She is not a bad lady, very nice and dedicated.
This lady and her test are ridiculous. After every test a group of students have to go argue that some questions on the test have more than 1 answer. Her test are worded horrible. She doesn't clarify what shes saying. Don't take her! The first day of class she made all the students that failed her class before stand up. Most of class did. I have a
Prof. Thompson is excellent. She is a great story teller and is absolutely clear about her expectations. Her courses are challenging but well worth the effort.
Look, she isn't easy. The class was great though. She is a very good teacher and cares for the students. She also gives extra credit like crazy. The people who have problems are lazy or freshmen who expect the professors to hold their hands. She is awesome!
Dr. Thompson is not an easy Professor but to her defense, she doesn't claim to be. She expects you to work for and earn your grade. I did very well in her class. She isn't demanding, just doing what she is paid to do, and that is TEACH at a University level. When you take Dr. Thompson you know only learn Tx. History but you learn the difference bet
hardest teacher ive had so far. class is such a bore and she gets off topic like no other. not an easy A, attendance is mandatory if you want to do well, and her tests are incredible :/ DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED.
Very difficult and boring class, if your taking history core classes look elsewhere, she requires so much and is very strict.....!
The most difficult class. You will have to read almost every day after class and look over your long lengthy notes because her class is strictly lecture. NO cellphones, no talking- she is very strict and likes things done her way. Her tests are difficult so I recommend going to the SI sessions. First test is a map test, know the countries!
Yes, I understand her class is a very challenging course, and believe me it is. I still got a great grade in her course, but I truly applied myself to the exams and the paper she usually hands out. Watch for extra credit: it's a fun project!
I took her for Texas History. I really enjoyed this class. The way she tells history is very interesting - and she tells you EXACTLY what she expects from you. If you are good at attending class regularly, then this is a good class to take. She does take attendance, and she does expect alot. But it's also easy - if you try.
Can't stay on topic!
ATTENTION: IF YOU ARE IN COLLEGE TO LEARN, TAKE THIS PROF. IF YOU ARE IN COLLEGE CUZ MOMMY AND DADDY WANT YOU THERE AND YOU DON'T REALLY CARE, DO NOT TAKE THE PROF. One of the best Profs I have ever had. VERY difficult stuff, but you will learn. I came out of this course with a University level education and it was well worth it.
she's a great, clean cut easy to understand teacher. Follow what she says exactly and you should do fine. Lots of extra credit. By the way, all the comments slamming her about assigned seats? the only reason she has them is so she can keep track of who comes to class so she can give them extra credit.
the class was hard. i would study for hours and still got 68 on both on my tests. theres a paper which is really easy if you follow her guidelines. i got a 100. lots of extra credit. ended up with a B thanks to the EC.
Very hard professor.. Very hard class. If you pass this class then you must have studied..
She's like that grandma you have that tells you wonderful stories, only she tests you on hers. She stresses conceptual understanding as oppose to memorization of people/dates. Reading just needs to be over what she discusses in class, saving you half the chapter. A+ with some effort. You won't last in college if you think she's difficult, trust me.
IF YOU LIKED BEING IN HIGH SCHOOL THEN SHE IS YOUR PROFESSOR. SHE GOES OFF ON HER LITTLE STORIES THAT ARE SOMETIMES INTERESTING BUT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TESTING MATERIAL. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY AND THERE IS A SEATING CHART, TARDIES, LATE, ETC. ALOT OF READING AND A WORLD MAP QUIZ THAT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
horrible teacher. goes off the track all the time. make fun of students. three coded exams so no one can see each others paper and have to sit on alternate chairs.
Had her for 1043 & 1053. If you plan taking a class from this prof be prepared for A LOT of studying. If you miss less than 3 classes while maintaining a B or A average you can exempt the final with 3 points extra credit added to your final grade. A little bit of extra work for no final? Totally worth it! Great prof! READ THE BOOK THOROUGHLY!!!
Exceptional Professor! Quirky grading at first, but in the end she favored the students who regularly attend and can write a short essay each class period on the readings. No exams, but one ten page paper that is completed over the semester. Highly recommend!
For Texas History, I was extremely surprised at how difficult this class actually was. The material isn't hard, but the wording of her test questions was unbelieveable!! The class was pretty interesting, since most of the events we talk about happened in San Antonio. Was a bit hard to approach, but her SI and TA both know it so they make up for that. Don't take this class as a joke; study hard!
TX His-class was pretty boring and the tests are HARD! studied all night and barely made a C. tests are not over what is in the book. one essay is due during the semester and it's so easy. she is paranoid about attendance and laptops. don't laugh while on your laptop or she'll make you close it. nice lady if you're on her good side.
She is a terribly scattered teacher. NOT A BLOWOFF AT ALL. Her tests are super super hard.
Dr. Thompson is an excellent teacher. She makes US History very interesting and even entertaining. She is serious about her stuff and you must read and keep up with the demands of the class. I highly recommend her, but be ready to do your share.
She is a fantastic teacher! Knows what she is teaching very well, however if your looking for an easy A, you might want to look else where. If one does their work and works hard an A is attainable in her class.
Tests are hard, she lectures very fast and is constantly off topic. Not an easy grade at all. A lot of reading is assigned. However, I feel like that didn't help me at all. It's like high school all over again, she marks people absent, tardy, etc. I RECOMMEND NOT TAKING HER.
Very Tough Class. If you love to study and read a lot, this is the class for you.
Professor Thompson's class was awful on multiple levels. She's vague, gets off topic, and extremely pretentious. She doesn't try to help her students and gives a broad overview, focusing on only certain events she finds interesting. Her tests are awful and the questions are either too broad or too specific (over things she didn't cover).
Professor Thompson is clear about what she wants as far as readings and what to study for the tests. Tends to go off on tangents during lectures but I promise everything on the tests she either gets to in the lectures or from the readings. Not an easy A but I definitely learned and retained what she taught. Expect to work hard.
I enjoyed Professor Thompson's class. It definitely wasn't easy but i ended up getting an A- in the class. She seems a little intimidating but if you go to her office hours and get to know her she's actually pretty nice. Just go to class, study for the tests and go to SI sessions!
Read the book; it'll be your best friend. Definitely not an easy class, but not impossible either. I took AP US History in high school and it wasn't nearly as hard as this class. She does the plus/minus grading which sucks if you get an A-. But this class was challenging. However you do learn a lot. Don't take if you want an easy A.
Hard teach, but a great one. Teaches her class like the traditional Texas story-teller. She's clear about expectations but a great lecturer. She's firm, but fair. Offers exemption from the final and opportunities for extra credit. If you still have high-school attitude, wait until your senior year to take her. Grown up class for sure.
LOVE HER. yes she is a stickler when it comes to how the course will be completed and classroom expectations but its not bad. i didnt even buy the book and i got an A. her lectures are THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to pay attention to. take notes and you will be fine. she was always willing to help students and very reacoutside of the classroom.
This class is amazing. Great teacher, and she is very enthusiastic about teaching the subject. Show up to class, take notes, read the book, and this class is simple. With all the bonus points she gives out i got an A+ in the class. It is impossible to fail this class unless you do absolutely nothing.
A mixed bag of feelings. Class is kinda easy. Tests are okay. It's just her attitude. You have to treat her like she's the Queen of England or she'll tear you up. Take her class if you can put up with her and her high school rules, & DO THE S.I.!!!
She has rules like a high school teacher, very rude, and the tests are really hard. Went to the writing center to get my essay checked, they said it was great. Gave it to her, didn't pass it.
Almost impossible to study for the test. Always studied lectures and the text book and still barely made a passing grade.
To be honest, I read all her reviews before I chose her as my professor. Sad to say, she was probably one of the worse professors I've had in all my 3 years. Lectures are a story book and she goes from one topic to the next. Talks low and is extremely rude. Good luck if you take her!
I had her for U.S. History, civil war to present and it was an enjoyable class. She really loves to engage her students but she will not single you out, only encourage the class to ask questions. She only gives you 3 tests and if your test average is 80 or above, and you have only 3 absences and 3 tardies, then you are exempt from the final!
Her class was ridiculously hard. It's hard to study for exams when you don't really have a review to study. You just have your notes from her lectures and the book, and even with that, the exams are still hard. Some of the questions on the exam are over material you've never gone over in class. Avoid her if you can. She's a very nice person though.
I had Dr. Thompson for Civil War-Present. Avoid her at all cost. She shouldn't still be teaching. She whispers the entire time. She has a microphone, but she doesn't turn it up. Her tests are all multiple choice, but usually 2 of the 4 answers could be right. She uses the "most correct" theory, which results in answers based on opinions. TERRIBLE.
She is a HORRIBLE teacher avoid her at ALL cost. Honestly, I dont mind if someone is hard or not as long as they are good teachers but she is horrible, her teaching habits are bad and she is mean and not helpful.
I took texas history class with her. HORRIBLE. I studied very hard and I couldn't make 60s in her tests. Her class is very difficult and she has a lot of rules u have to follow. I recommend not taking her or take her if u want to ruin ur gpa. I always wondered why a lot of people rate her as a good teacher, maybe cuz they have studied tx history bf
If you want to make an easy A this IS NOT THE CLASS FOR YOU!!!! Coming to class is not necessary she post videos on blackboard every class, you MUST STUDY LECTURE NOTES and go to SI, her test seem impossible to past. Luckily this spring semester will be her last time teaching she is retiring
