Trish is a great teacher. She's fun to listen to and very knowlegable. She really knows her stuff. I'd recomend her to anybody!

LOTS of lecture, thats all you do. i really enjoyed hist 101, but hist 102 was not as good, cause all you do is learn about kings and queens in europe. not my fav. tests are really easy as long as you take good notes, be prepared to take a lot of notes
At 8 am, the 2 hour lectures are hard to stay awake in-- but for the most part she does a good job of keeping it moving. Take a lot of good notes, though!
McFarland is a great teacher, if you go to class and remotely pay attention then you will pass.. she's a great lady and very understanding!! Take notes and it's a sure pass.
Trish is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. No teacher I have ever met has been more passionate about her subject than Trish McFarland.
Shes a good teacher... You should take classes with her.
I took hist 101 & 103. She is the most interesting teacher I have had so far. She is passinate about her subject and of course an expert. Pay attention, take good notes, and study the notes and you'll get an A+. Her story telling is very captivating and I wouldn't miss a class. I even drug myself in sick...that is how good she is.
Dr. McFarland is my favorite teacher. Her lectures are fasinating, captivating and a pure joy to listen to. She creates a stress free test taking enviornment. If you take good notes, memorize the names, events, and places you'll cruze through. She wants her students to do well. I would take all of her classes again!
Trish is quite probably the best teacher I have ever had. I left the 3 classes I took from her knowing more than I ever could have imagined. It isn't just that she has the ability to get the information across, it is that her style actually makes the material interesting. On top of all that, she is a truly nice person who wants you to succeed.
She is awsome! She brings, passion, excitement and fun to every class!
I must admit that I was a history nerd before I took Trish's class, but afterward I was more enthused about history than ever! She is incredibly passionate about her subject! Be prepared to take A LOT of notes,She likes tangents, I'd also suggest recording the lectures, because that is all there is. Overall though, she is very enjoyable!
I've never been good with history, but she makes it fascinating. She's a wonderful teacher, and if you're good at memorizing names and places, she's the teacher for you. All lecture, 3 tests, no homework. I loved it. I highly recommend her class, and am taking another next term.
she absolutely sucks as a teacher and for some odd reason really had it in for me. Never again will I take a history class and ESPECIALLY not with her. She weezes cant speak correct english, her jokes are corny, her tests are long and when she asks for suggestions she doesnt ever head them. Worst teacher ever!!!!
Interesting class but it was hard to take as an early morning class. I seemed to find my mind wandering else where. Sometimes she talks a little fast so it can be difficult to keep up with the notes. Also she is big on attendance points so don't skip.
I disagree with many people about her. I did not enjoy her class. I went everyday and took extensive notes, her tests are difficult and study guides aren't helpful. If you are a hands on learned do not take her class.
Worst teacher to do a online class with.
Worst teacher i have had a CCC.
mcfarland is prejudice against women she is nice to the men and treats the women like dirt i and several other females in my class were treated un fairly one girl had a doctors appointment for cancer treatment and was not given a chance to take a make up test another had to work and got docked late points don't ever take her class!
I completely love this HST class. I plan on taking another 2 terms of HST with her and can't wait. Her lectures are great. I can't get enough of them. She moves quickly so be ready to take notes. Exams are 100% from lecture so don't miss a day. Each exam can be taken twice which is great. Online homework is really easy and can only help your grade.
Took the course online. What a wonderful professor! Humble, kind, and fair. Would highly recommend her! Taking her other two classes in the future.
Overall Trish was a great teacher. Always clear on what needed to be done and when it needed to be done. All assignments were very easy to complete. The only drawback for me was that there is a 20 minute time for the 50-60 question exams.
This is the WORST TEACHER I have EVER had. She goes off on tangents, discourages debates and discussions in class (I asked about Tesla when talking about Marconi, she became extremely defensive- that was just one occasion of many), she's disorganized and unhelpful. NO leeway for illnesses or emergencies in regards to attendance. DO NOT TAKE.
You cant miss a day, she gives two chances to take the tests and she has some lecture notes going while taking the test to jog your brain a little bit. Assignments are small and easy. I really enjoyed her class.
She made learning History fun. She does not require you to know the datesyears that the events occurred. As long as you pay attention and turn in the easy homework, it is an easy A
Excellent teacher. I was not looking forward to taking History, but Ms. McFarland made it so interesting that I am taking her 2 subsequent classes. Uses a Q & A format for going through chapters and prepping for tests. Assignments are interesting and brief. Tests are more than manageable. Great teacher and great class.
Excellent teacher! Very clear cut and linear syllabus, assignments and tests. Study your Content Questions and Study Guide, and you'll do great! I was definitely not into History before this class, but Prof. McFarland helped to completely change my mind, and I ending up taking 2 more classes with her.
I feel like for a 103 online class it was way to frustrating and difficult.
She won't take ownership of any problems that occur. She allows for students to answer questions with exact phrasing from the book. After doing this, she gave me a 0 grade for the quiz. She said that I didn't answer the question. I sent a picture of the time stamp on my submission to her. Refused to give me full credit because she "overlooked" it.
Having taken more than a few online courses, I will say that Trish (as she goes by) has one of the easier-to-follow and more efficient plans for such a course. The tests are intimidating (50 questions in 20 mins) only until you take them. If you have done the reading and prepared, they are a breeze. More engaged and available than most profs, too.
I really enjoyed this class. Be ready for long lectures, (about an hour and forty minutes of lecture with a ten minute break). Attendance is very important, if you miss class make sure to contact someone else to get notes, because her lectures cover a lot of ground (which makes them more interesting). Homework is easy, tests are easy if you study.
Extremely unhelpful feedback in that there is none unless you mess something up, in which case her feedback is telling you that you got a zero. Her Moodle page is a huge mess of links to assignments of which you'll only only answer a small percentage of. Overall, just a sloppily put together course.
I was taking history 101 online with her. The class was quite easy until I missed a midterm due to family illness. Come hell or highwater she will not allow for any makeup work. That's not unfair, but it is frustrating. I had to drop;one mistake and I was doomed for a C . Anyway, just be aware if you take her that you can't miss anything.
I would never take this class again in this world . Your opinion on homework or in class don't even matter . Grading is terrible You can read all of the passages all you want and answer correctly still will be grated down.
A subject I used to really like, she made me dislike.
She whistles when she talks so you can barely understand her. One of the sites used crashed and I was marked down for it. She's terrible. I can't stand her.
I have taken 3 full history classes from her. I tired to take an online Western Civilization class from her, it was horrible! History 136-138 were wonderful classes! I recommend those, but NONE of her online classes!!! Get ready to learn! If you don't like history DO NOT bother taking her class, you'll hate it! Trust me.
The tangents she goes on are RIDICULOUS and distracting. She is rude and doesn't know what shes talking about. Her grading system and her online homework makes NO sense. She seems humble and sweet at first but there is A LOT more under the surface. The class itself would've been great if it wasn't taught by her. I'm a history nerd, not worth it.
I really enjoyed McFarland's class. However, get ready for tons of note taking and pterodactyl hands afterward. The way she teaches could see a single class period go over in depth details of twenty years depending on the schedule. She's like a freight train blasting through the facts so you need to pay attention and keep up, but a really good prof
HST-130 She was a good teacher but her classes are all lecture so don't miss class. She didn't have much homework. We did have a book but you were only supposed to read it until you found the answers to the question for the discussion form. It was a interesting class but at times boring. Also you can retake the midterm and final.
I was enrolled in an online HST 102-103 course and was not pleased. She is an extremely harsh grader on weekly assignments without thorough explanation. Her tests are 50 multiple choice questions and students only have 20 minutes to complete them. Would not recommend this instructor.
What should have been an easy A was turned into a fight to get a B because of the way this class is structured. The weekly assignments are easy, but if not worded in the exact way she wants you get no points. Constantly people are told their response is too short or too lengthy. She is very hard to please and thinks History101 is the end all be all
I went into this course excited to learn, as I love History. From the very beginning, the online instruction material was unclear, and most often times completely unrelated to the lecture. She will tell you from the very get go that her tests are based off of her lectures, and not so much with the online text.
Exams that are 50 multiple-choice questions in 20 min. This is barely enough time to read the question, read the answers, then choose the best answer before you have to move on. Very nit-picky about marking down your answers to assignments, even if the answer was correct, she will find something wrong about it. It's like she wants you to fail.
She doesn't give to much home work but if you miss one day of class you might as well drop it. She hardly uses the book so don't really bother with it and as long as you take notes she is not all that bad.
Attending her lectures is mandatory, but they are of great quality. Tests will be difficult if you don't pay attention. Take good notes, study well, and you should do fine.
I would recommend this course to anyone who had a bad experience with history in the past. Trish makes it easy to understand, and presents the history in a linear format that makes it easy to remember. The class is pretty much all lecture, but if you know how to take good notes it should be a breeze. There were only two tests; midterm and final.
I added the Hilarious tag simply because Trish Mcfarland is a joke, her lectures are great until you realize that it has nothing to do with the homework, and the homework should be easy until you realize that its behind 3 different pearsons paywalls, Get ready to buy a 100 dollar textbook for all of the work to be based off the online course
Ok, so I didn't have her for 101 but I had her for both 202-203 but those weren't an option. But, let me tell you this professor is the best one at CCC! Her lectures are amazing. She includes important aspects of history as well as fun/entertaining parts too! I wish I could take both of these courses over again just for fun! Trish is the Best!
The most underrated professor at Clackamas Community College! My favorite teacher her at the college. She has also inspired me to pursue a degree in history and I can say I have learned from her lectures! Please keep her!
I personally found Patricia's class very straightforward and easy--do the weekly assignment, show up to class, take detailed notes, and then study those notes. The tests are long but not very challenging. She really wants you to succeed. The A is basically yours to lose--the questions are so simple; all you have to do is take the time to study!
Best Teacher Around! Very Inspirational!
Trish is amazing! I'm going to miss her lectures when I transfer!
I enjoy her lectures and all the life lessons she includes in them. She knows her stuff and I certainly recommend taking her courses for anyone interested in History.
I have been in college for four years and Mcfarland is by far the WORST instructor I have ever encountered. You get 30 seconds per question in her class (50 Q's, 20 min), she accepts no late work or retries. Her questions are so open ended (why is this important to you) and then she will give you an F if she doesn't like your answer. Dropped class!
McFarland made the coursework hard to concrete. For example, if your answer was supposed to be "The Industrial Revolution", you said "The French Revolution", her response would be, "that is incorrect". And it is an automatic zero on that assignment, no make-ups, no extra credit, and 20 mins to answer 50 questions in your exams (4 exams per term!)
Be careful on how you do your homework assignments. She will either give you a 5/10 on your assignments or a 10/10. You will have to take a ton of notes in this class since the two test are just on what she says in her lecture. No book will help you and her slides are not detailed at all. Class participation is a must.
This teacher has taken one of my favorite subjects and made it my worst subject. I guess she believes that explaining something the same way 20 times will help me understand it better, which it does not! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COURSE AND OTHER CLASSES LECTURED BY HER! She does not do partial points for partial correct posts, its either all or none.
She goes on random tangents that make it very difficult to follow her lectures. She's also an extremely difficult grader and gives you little to no feedback on assignments. Her tests are ridiculous and extremely difficult. Honestly just save your money and take the class with ANYONE else.
I have taken from this instructor both in person and online and I much prefer her in-person classes. The grading criteria was not very clear and I ended up getting a lot of points docked off and I didn't understand why. However, she cares her students doing well and if you can take from her in an in-person class, do it!!
Trish is not a very good instructor. Her grading criteria is unclear, as well as her feedback. Despite teaching 100 level history, she has the expectations of graduate level students. She has no lecture notes, study guides, or willingness to expand on ideas. I would not recommend this instructor to anybody that values themselves as a student.
her class wasnt horrible, but it wasnt great either. she talked very quickly and barely had time for questions. and when people did ask questions, she answered them condescendingly.
Trish is amazing Ive taken several of her classes. Her tests are super easy there are inky two and you can make them up for a better score. Each week you do a small bit of reading and a post online. A tip I have is when she asks why it was useful to read something DO NOT say what you learned, that just repeats the contents.
She really cares about her students. When I was confused and reached out to her, she responded quickly and was super helpful. Ive now taken 2 classes with her because of how awesome she was the first time around... and Id totally take a third.
I love her classes! She covers material from ancient to modern time. Be prepared to take notes. 2hr lectures (sevral centuries are covered in each lecture). She lets you voice record, type or write. Grade: made up of mid term, final, and a once a week post (1 to 3 sentance posts). Option to take 2nd midt/final, you get the better score. Wonderful!
Trish is so sweet! The way she formats her classes really works for me, but it doesnt work for everyone. The midterm and Final are on all the information from the lectures, so you really have to be at every one to have all the information and take good notes! I got a great grade and will be taking from her again.
Trish is a great instructor. I took her HST 137, and it was surprisingly easy. You get to take the midterm and final twice. Be sure to practically write everything she says down though, cause it'll be on the test. She also gives out little study guides which helps a lot for the test. She likes the classroom cold, so bring a jacket.
Moodle was extremely disorganised; spelling/grammar errors. I emailed her and she got confused as to which class she was teaching!! Deadlines and expectations for posts are confusing and by the time youve figured it out, your grade has already suffered. Comments on your posts just to say youre doing it wrong. Generally unhelpful; dont recommend.
I enjoyed this class. Trish was accessible and clear in grading and instruction. This was online, and the class was pretty much just reading the textbook, taking a weekly test, and writing a few short papers. No midterm, and no finals either! She gives out study guides for the test, but no answers. Had issues with this, but found answers on quizlet
Overall, a pretty easy class to begin with, simple stuff like a weekly quiz and paper. Be careful, if you don't do well on these papers she won't let you make them up or at least try to help you in some way. Harsh grader and gives poor feedback, but the overall class isn't bad at all or super challenging.
Get ready to read, we had a total of three textbooks all of which were assigned 2-3 chapters a week along with a lecture. She's a very nice and understandable instructor but there is some lack of structure in the class. Not to mention there is a lack of clarity as well. I would not recommend the class if you may be taking other heavy workloads.
(ONLINE) I loved how clear and organized this professor was! When I emailed her before the term began, she responded immediately (seriously, within 10 minutes), and she even had the course posted early. She had short videos with helpful hints on the assignments. Her instructions were very straightforward. This professor is pro-active!
Expected to have time to read 2 books on top of all our other classes. really boring lectures and was textbook heavy learning. only reading.
She was nice, straightforward, and simple. Didn't allow any extensions for the questionnaire at the start of the term so don't be late! One quiz per week. Quizzes were tough, lots of reading and prep (fill out study guide completely for best grade). Only one paper and it was straightforward, don't be too vague, she likes rich content and details.
I took two history classes with Trish online. The work itself is not difficult, a few surveys, a weekly quiz, and "The Paper." It is absolutely necessary to get all the books she assigns and watch the lectures because the course heavily depends on the quiz grades. She is really nice and willing to help you out if you need it. Overall 7/10.
Her instructions are unclear and her grading is completely inconsistent. A problem that didn't matter last paper suddenly matters for the next one. She asks students to use their own words and urges them to not look directly at the textbook, then docs points because it doesn't "sound correct". Would strongly suggest not taking it.
In this class, your grade comes from 3 items: -3 questionnaires: Don't forget these like I did! free easy points -Weekly Quizzes: get all textbooks you can in PDF form. Ctrl+F to fill out study guide -End of term paper: she gives you the exact text and chapters she wants the info from. No original thought needed TBH an easy but braindead class.
She is random and I feel I know what she wants I feel I do good on the weekly papers, but then I get them back and I do poorly. I even talked to her multiple times outside of class and asked her specifically what she is looking for, and then tells me I "wasn't clear" even though I write exactly her words. Does not answer my questions well at all.
I am a history fan but this professors grading made me drop the class. She is extremely difficult to get a good grade with. Her responses are vague and there is not clear expectation in which she wants. You will receive a great peer review yet receive a 10% grade. I will not be taking another class from her. Look for a new professor for this class.
First of all I would not recommend her as a teacher. She is generally a nice person but as an instructor she is not. She doesn't give helpful feedback, nor does she really pay attention to her students when you ask for feedback. She's so vague, and doesn't really answer anything when it comes to grades. She has hasn't been a good teacher for me.
This teacher is awful. She seems like a genuinly kind individual however I dont think she is fit to be teaching. Inconsistant and unfair grading. even if you complete the work you will recieve a 0 if its not up to her standard, which by the way her grading standards or rubric is not even mentioned anywhere in the course.
I would never recommend this professor. This is the only course I have taken in two years that I genuinely detest, this professor is extremely hard to please and her grading is tough and unclear. She will say "too much detail, shorten your sentences" and then the next week "there's not enough detail" Do not taker her course!
worst professor i've ever had. her grading was so unclear, assignments were unorganized, extremely hard to please. I practically copied lines from the textbook in my assignments, yet she told me my information was incorrect. I have a 4.0 GPA and I dropped the class on Week 6 because I had an F. save yourself, and never take her classes.
Feedback you receive is vague and conflicting. Even after having an in person meeting to discuss what I did incorrect, I received criticism and barely given any feedback of what to do better. Instructions for assignments do not match with what she actually expects and grades you for. She is quick with grading and fast at responding to emails.
HORRIBLE GRADING SYSTEM! She gives me extremely low grades on all of my weekly assignments bc its "not part of the reading" when it was 3 pages of the chapter? Biggest pet peeve is she asks for "not complete sentences and bullet points instead. But you can't be vague you have to be complete." She makes absolutely no sense. SHOULDNT BE TEACHING.
Spoke to trisha for further explanation on the weekly ungraded assignments of Outline of Conflicts. Went no where, so we had a zoom call. Pretty much
Her feedback is nonexistent. Asked her why my outlines were wrong, refused to give examples of what shes looking for or any advice. Said to reread the text and instructions. Lecture feedback she doesnt want you to ask questions about the book but about her presentation, but also make sure you verifying questions in the book first.
Terrible teacher. When I turned in my reading list, she would grade me good. Then came the tests. She would grade me VERY low on things that got a good grade on on my lists. When I asked, she gave LITTLE TO NO FEEDBACK. She gave me incredibly low grades and made little effort to answer questions, and blatantly gave me misinformation at one point.
Listen, I no nothing about college, I JUST started, but I would rather go back to highschool then take her class again. She gives little to no feedback, and her grading is VERY difficult. Will give out 30 min lectures just to say NOTHING from it will go to the quizzes. And her study guides will be very vauge.
I don't even think she has given someone a grade above a C in 2025. She acts like she should be a university professor when she is barely qualified at her current position.
Easily the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. Talks about a whole lot of nothing in her lectures and then expects you to answer questions regarding the lecture. She then proceeds to say how bad your responses are and gives you reasons a 6 year old would come up with. Stay away from this teacher!!!!
She's very kind. The criterion for the assignments is very strict: ex. specific amount of sentences must be used on the lecture feedbacks, but you get used to that as the term goes on. Quizzes are based entirely off the lectures, so those that complain probably used Chat GPT and it failed them. Literally just 15 simple true or false questions.
Imagine a world where if you use the textbook she bases the entire class on, on any assignment you get a complete 0. I used the tiniest bit of information on my PLO paper and she gave it a whopping zero. If you make a slight mistake on something get ready to have absolutely no credit.
I had to withdraw from this class because of how difficult this professor was. The coursework would be easy if not for her strange grading tactics. If you use even a little bit of the textbook that is required reading: 0. If you have an opinion that she disagrees with: 0. If she doesn't like your wording: 0 Stay away!!!!
she does talk a lot but part of that is what makes her such a great teacher. She has real world experience being to the places she talks about and she knows A LOT about Germany and German culture.
This professor is extremely difficult to get feedback from. She does a general feedback but if you email asking questions she will get defensive and avoid answe
She doesn't follow her own grading rubrics and will give students 0 for little to no discernible reason. Afterwards, if you email her or try to do anything to change it she gets defensive and doesn't take it well. She also doesn't follow her own material and will often forget it. She has memory problems and it stubborn.
PLEASE do not take this teacher. I am a science major and have never had a teacher grade so harshly. She asks for your opinions and then tells you that they are wrong. Just don't do it.
She will grade so harsh on each assignment yet wont show a example of what you are supposed to do. I dont recommend taking History 103 by her.
repeats the same assignments every week, grades extremely strict, it almost feels like you have to be a mind reader to get full credit.
When you email her she gets defensive especially regarding if you are able to see a past submissions so you can see where exactly you missed points on she believes that you don't need one?? Her rubric is all over the place when it comes to assignments. Why get a book if 90%of the time we just used her lectures. It is extremely frustrating
Does not respond to questions. Refuses to give help.
Doesn't follow her own rubric and just gives 0s with no explanation. Horrible professor would NOT take her class again.
McFarland's expectations are so ERRATIC that I'd rather have a Magic 8 Ball give me a grade because it would still be more sound reasoning. Do NOT take her class! You can turn everything in, on time, and still FAIL her class. I've never left a review before but she is nit-picky, condescending, and unecessarily harsh.
Please do not take Patricia's online class, She graded my feedback saying, "It doesn't make sense" I used her words from her lecture. If it doesn't make sense, then your lecture doesn't make sense, which raises the question, Is she even qualified? She ran away from our meeting like a undiciplined child. please do not take her online class.
Unlike any other instructor I have had in the past. Almost set up to fail because the grading scale and her judgment are unclear and can be described as opinionated at best.
