Bring a book. You will fall asleep without a doubt.
My roommate fell asleep every day! God only knows how i managed to stay awake.
I fell asleep everyday in class and my roommate took notes for me, I got an A
VERY boring...take this class with a different prof...she makes bio very dull
No Comments
Real boring-I fell asleep everyday. Easy class though
Just take notes, you will do fine....if you are remotely interested in the topic

Tests straight from notes, go to class and study you'll get and A, nice professo
Intelligent. Lectures can get boring. Take notes and you'll be fine Multchtest
easy easy class, everything is straight from the book, boring boring lectures
very nice and puts all notes on overhead, study notes for tests and will do good
she is an awesome teacher, study your notes and you will do great
Fair exams. Nice lady, but often boring. Uses every last second of class time!
wow, REALLY boring. fairly easy as long as you go to lecture, study notes.
Great if you sit up front
Dull to me. Must be torture for people w/ ADD. Still, she's nice. Tests easy.
u must study 4 tests!!!
easy but way to many overheads. they can make you dizzy after awhile
So cake, take good notes, read book once in a while, go to class= A
Probably the nicest professor on campus. Willing to help. Cares about students.
Such a nice lady!!! Read the text, use the CDROM=A. She's always willing 2 help!
zzzzzz.......
Tests difficult. She is very nice, but class isn't all that exciting. Study!
Hard tests but Walsh is brillant and extremely nice. great class!!!!!!!
I thought class was very interesting. Amazing professor, brillant and friendly!!
good professor, she friendly and helpful; pretty fair exams... just memorization
nice, just so boring, esp for an hour and 15. you WILL be checking your watch!
extremely nice lady. lots of info to learn. cd and text are quite helpful
lots of notes!study and go to class. she is VERY nice!
Material somewhat hard, lectures boring, tests taken from notes, study
boring ;ectures but go to class, easy notes, read chap, drops lowest, nice lady

3 tests, drops the lowest, + final. Nice lady but very boring
very very easy. nice prof. read book, study notes, piece of cake
too much work for just a group D requirment
Overhead notes. Exams easy if study. Lecture somewhat boring-voice gets annoying
Very nice and helpful lady, but gets boring, learning guides are very useful
must pay attention, must attend lectures, tests fairly difficult, nice curves
very easy, gives you all the notes, read alitte, study, tests are sooo easy
Nice and helpful. Need to study for tests. Interesting class learned alot.
kinda boring class, puts ALL notes on overhead, very nice lady however
Do the reading and you'll do well. Nice lady who wants you to do well.
tets are right from the notes and know the learning guides.. easy A
Be prepared to fall asleep...hard to keep awake, which makes taking tests hard
she cool
good class to take... if your an insomniac trying to kick the habit
Boring class but she's a nice lady and gives clear lectures and study guides.
Good teaching ability, if you like heredity, you will like.
The most boring lectures ever! She lectures using questions....pointless
exams right from notes..nice, funny and helpful

Have 3 tests, drop the lowest one, easy homework's, class=really boring
very nice; a little boring but straightfoward and clear; a good teacher
Good lecturer but a lot of notes to learn for each exam
Nice lady. Exams right from notes on overhead. Exams really easy!
Good teacher.....Study notes and read over book and you'll do good!! Go to class
study notes throughly and read chapters; nice lady but boring at times
Really nice, very clear,no need to do reading, pay attention, take good notes
nice..judgemental..pretty easy...attendance is optional
really nice, easy class for lab requirement

Nice professor but really boring. Tests are ok, use the book and web page.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
friendly and helpful, lots of notes, study hard for exams
Very nice..cares about students/ study notes and use book as a guide
Pat is so nice, we love her! She made me love bio.
Really Nice, take good notes and go to class and you'll do fine
Boring material, but explains well. Not too much work. Lab SUCks!!!
Nice lady, study guides are great
really nice; pretty boring class, use book and web page for tests; pretty easy
boring, takes attendence, overheads directly from book, nice though
Hard, but knows her stuff, good teacher, learn alot
lectures a LOT, usually interesting though..very friendly
take notes from overheads and skim the book- and its an easy A
boring
go to class, take notes, review book before tests,
bio is bio, teach it to yourself and she wont give you problems
Friendly. Will make sure you get everything. Tests are difficult. Uses in-class assignments to check attendance.
Very good teacher. Made difficult clear and understandable. Notes on overhead. Tests ok if you do learning guides.
class is very difficult...she is very sweet and more than happy to help you out...you MUST attend class...takes attendance with in class homework...you never know what day she will do it...she has great learning guides and study notes on webCT
Very nice teacher, but tests are hard. Read the text and go to classes.
You have to go to class... and it is boring.. but if you do you will get an easy A. Informative class, Walsh is nice. Easy group D.
as long as you try you will be fine. don't need to read the book and just print notes. very nice professor
Great teacher, very clear explanations, take if you have the chance
She's a very nice person...so you feel bad falling asleep in her class...but you can't help it...class is difficult but pretty fair
If you go to all of the classes, take notes (notes directly from overhead), and review illustrations in the book (don't read it) then you will do fine. Some homework- its quick and easy
Really nice lady, sometimes the tests are a little tricky, but basically easy. Go to class because in class assignments (very easy) go towards grade.
She's really nice and I've never understood biology like I do now that I had her as a teacher. She makes it more simplified for the non-bio major.
if she wasn't so boring, she wouldn't have to do the whole "taking attendance via in-class assignments" thing
really nice lady, lectures are pointless because notes are on webct. in class assignments, but if you do real well on tests they won't matter, EASY A
it was so much easier to sleep in my own bed than go all the way to her class and do it
not nice, tests unclear, lectures boring as hell, but labs are easy and the TA's are generally hot (I love you ROSE!)
not nice, tests unclear, lectures boring as hell, but labs are easy and the TA's are generally hot (I love you ROSE!)
tests are way too hard, class is boring, she lectures like she's talking to a group of 3 year olds
Nice Prof... class helpful, but notes are also on WebCT. tests are sometimes tricky but for the most part a good easy course
horrible proffessor, has an attitude, VERY BORING!!! do not take!!! had to work my butt off!
Really nice lady but exams are ridiculously hard!!! Lab is real easy, just go and you're guaranteed to have an A. Lectures are interesting at first and then get boring and redundant after awhile.
Makes bio easier for the non bio major. A very sweet helpful lady. Tests can be tricky, but if you go to class you should remember the material. Plenty of opportunity to bring up your grade despite tests. Drops lowest test grade.
Very nice woman. Made time for me to seek extra help from her. Tests are a bit too hard for my taste. Can't resist throwing in trick questions. (I agree w/ others class is boring, but the class is for us non-majors, so of course, we'll be bored here.)
Boring Boring lectures!!! But how do you make Biology fun? Very organized in notes and gives you helpful things online....but almost robotic like..could she be one?
Very nice teacher, lectures are the not the most exciting things, but what lectures are? be prepared to take notes off overhead. Most everything for the class is avaliable on WebCT. Go to class to get participation points at random times. Lab is not h
ok teacher, easy to understand and has good notes both in lecture and online. if you study enough it should be an easy grade just make sure to study. Review sessions wont help much i dont think so just do work on your own. ok teacher though.
This is a typical class, a lot of people, boring as ****.She tries to make you learn but it doesn't really help unless you like bio. She's probably better than other professors and the class material isn't that hard. All the notes are online, pretty easy.
took her over winter session and tests werent representation of lectures but was always helpful
Easy class just study notes, only takes 3 highest tests out of four. Hot TA's we all love u rose.
good teacher; makes an effort to learn names even in a big lecture class, though that could lead to her playing favorites; don't like her random quizzes
excellent professor. lectures are helpful, must attend most because she does in class activities that count toward participation grade. tests are fair, but not simple. lab is cool. all in all, a great class for someone who doesn't like science.
Really nice lady, she knows her stuff. She gives you all the notes on the web and outlines to study from. I knew nothing about bio and I got a B+ with hardly any effort. I Just read the chapters the night before each test and went to most of the classes.
Awesome lady, easy exams, entertaining lectures. I was sad when the class was over. I hated bio going into this class, but she made it clear and easy to do well. Great prof!!
She was an AWSOME professor!! One of the best I've ever had. She was nice, very patient with students, engaging and all of her lectures were soooo interesting! She was always very happy to answer any question a student had. A lot of material, but if you study it is easy. The CD is helpful too!!
Not hard at all. She is so sweet and tries to get everyone to participate to make it more meaningful. Labs are boring.
Do not fall behind; the course can be painful if you do. Otherwise, it should be easy for most people. Lab Ta was nice, but labs did not coincide with lectures. Drops lowest test score (++++). Adds participation and hw points.
She was great! Very nice prof, interesting lectures, never had to fight to stay awake. Tests are easy if you pay attention to the lectures. Very clear and always helpful. I would definitly take another class of hers!
Good notes for class and is alright as a teacher. Tests were somewhat tricky. Only thing I didnt like was that she told us to just study our previous tests for the final and the final was only about 20% from old tests and the rest was other stuff from your notes. Other than that she isn't too bad.
I found it more helpful to outline chapters than actually listen to her lectures, but she gives pop quizzes in class every now in then. I took the class for a Group D requirement and I thought it was hard, but maybe English majors dont belong in Biology...
Class was hard considering i hate Biology. But she is a good professor, just read the text and powerpoint slides and you will do fine on tests.
Exams are easy as long as you prepare. Very organized , uses powerpoint. Posts slides on webCT after lectures. I got an A without studying too hard.
she tries to help students well
There is a lot of new information to be learned in this class if you are not familiar with genetics. The first exam is harder than the rest because there is so much stuff to learn at first. She is very helpful, and clear and is willing to discuss things after class.
this class is not easy.
I liked her, she is a very sweet woman and very informative. She uses power point slides and goes over a lot of information but she makes the slides available on WebCT so there isn't too much writing. The textbook has a website where you can take practice quizzes and that was very helpful.
This class was hard. If you're looking for an easy group D, try something else. Class was difficult because i knew nothing about human genetics before this class. Exams are now computerized so they are easy to take.
she either doesn't really know the material all that well or she doesn't know how to teach or she isn't a morning person. if you need a group d lab, take geological hazards.
Despite the fact that I hate Bio, professor wasnt that bad. Shes nice, interested in students' opinions, puts up slides on webct. Tests are a lil tough, too much information to memorize/learn but not the worst class ever.
DON'T! there are plenty of other group D's that will not result in a lowered GPA
for a class that was for non-bio majors, it was ridiculous, tests asked questions on needless things, when people asked questions in class she had no idea (do hearts grow?).. not recommended
Avoid her if you are going to take bio. There are other choices. I don't know how anyone could rate her positively.
Good teacher but lectures straight from the book and online powerpointslides. Gives credit for coming to class which can lift up ur grade. Take her easy B or even betetr.
Great professor. She's interested in what she teaches which makes a big difference. Offers help continuously, so if you do poorly, you're just a slacker. Warning though: memorization required, but understanding concepts is also very important. If you're lost the first week or two, CHANGE CLASSES!
nice lady .. but the class is hard if you are not interested in science .. gets too much in to details i think ...the tests are rather difficult..pay attention in class even though you already have the slides she goes over..
incredibly nice woman, always looking out for her students.. tough class though. if you're not interested in science, look for an easier group D- otherwise, go for it, classes were intersting and she kept it moving by mixing it up with lectures, videos, etc.
very nice woman whose excited about the class. tests are difficult but if you study you'll be fine. get easy participation points for attendance. realizes this is a bio class for non-majors so doesn't get into too much detail about a lot but gives broad overview.
dont take bio... its too hard
Coversa wide variety of information, so things don't get too weighty. Tests aren't superdifficult, but do spend a few hours studying to prepare. She's very kind, helpful, and wants her students to succeed. Her enthusiasm for biology doesn't transfer into her lecturing, but that's ok. Drops your lowest exam score. A decent way to fulfill group D lab
This class wasn't too bad. Just make sure to do the reading. She was a very helpful teacher. She offers very helpful review sessions. It isnt necessary to go to class but it definately doesnt hurt.
meh....not bad, but not astounding. She runs through the powerpoints extremely fast, and I didn't actually learn anything from them anyway, I just relied on the book. Some of the test questions were kind of misleading, but on the whole weren't terrible. If you can take the class with somebody easier...go for it.
umm seems nice at the beginning but when your .9 points away from a C- and attended everyclass and every activity....not so nice..take bio with some1 else
Very friendly and enthusiastic! Tests are somewhat difficult but if you study the notes and the book thoroughly you will do well.
Easiest class ever. I never understood biology until this class. Great teacher and very clear.
definately take this class, so easy if you study, 4 exams, a few in class activities, final exam is cummulative so it was kinda hard, if you can get a copy of a past exam use it to study, she uses a lot of the same questions
AWESOME!!!! She is pretty easy and follows the book exactly. I had to study a lot for the tests but i did well on them. Shes also very nice!
Professor Walsh is so sweet and very accomodating. She drops your lowest exam grade (except the final), and all of her powerpoint presentations are available online. I can't imagine how anybody could get below a B in this class.
Notes are on WebCT, in class assignments, explains the material well but the exams are long and tricky
The class is pretty easy as long as you go to the lectures most of the time and study a little before the exams. But you'll need a coffee because she has a really motherly soft voice that sometimes can't keep you awake at 9 am. Really nice lady!
Great teacher, very nice. Fairly easy class. Only counts best 2 out of 3 semester exams and the final exam. Lab is not easy though, so must do well on in class material. Come to class, participate with clicker, and you will do well.
shes great.very sweet.very nice.very helpful.if youre not into science this class will be work.studying for about 3 to 4 hrs for an exam helped me.her lectures are interesting, she has videos and uses powerpoint.she also gives not-graded in-class quizzes, so u can test yourself if you actually know whats going on.i def recommend her, shes awesome.
Really really nice and wants to help as much as possible. Material can get difficult but she will help you if you can and a test gets dropped! go to class and take good notes, textbook is difficult to study from and unnecessary.
She is such a mom and so nice. You use clickers in class so you need to go and PP slides are found online. Tests aren't bad and she will drop one out of the 3. Lab is a pain but not hard at all. Very willing to help you with anything. I would reccomend this class.
Dr. Walsh is very nice and motherly, but if biology is not your thing then make sure you go to every class because catching up in her class is not easy. Exams are somewhat challenging but study hard and you will do fine and she drops your lowest exam grade. Overall not a bad professor but I would not take another course taught by her.
She is a great teacher and willing to help anyone succeed in the class. Go to class because clickers are used every class to keep track of attendance. Study guides and lectures are found online and lab is really fun! She drops 1 of your 3 exam grades for you! Highly recommend her!
Easy Bio with Lab. Somewhat interesting but not really smart. She doesn't seem to know her stuff well and would ask students if they knew the answers to other students questions.
She is very nice and tries to help people understand. Bio is not my thing so if it isn't yours make sure you attend all classes and as hard as it is PAY ATTENTION!! Also it was made clear to me that it is necessary to study more than the night before the test.
Professor IS nice, but lectures are often taught as if the class is a Bio major. If you don't need the class, I would say choose an easier lab for Group D. Also, you don't absolutely NEED to buy the text, I barely used it. I suppose that's a matter of preference. Overall, OK class, but not the easiest
So what? and Why? .....She is very thorough but you end up teaching yourself a lot of the information when studying. The Cd/website for the textbook is great! she drops lowest of 3 tests.
my advice is to go to the library and print all the slides that are on webct (using the library will save you a lot of paper and ink) take notes on the slides. when studying, read the textbook thoroughly and study notes. all 3 tests are multiple choice and she drops the lowest. the final is cummulative. dont forget ur clicker! she is a good prof!
GO TO CLASS, print the slides, and take some notes. Tests aren't always the easiest, but if you understand the material, you will be fine. The books helps too. PARTICIPATE IN CLASS!
I loved her! I was very hesitant in taking bio at first, but she was so enthusiastic about it. She really kept you interested. Tests are ok, but there's many other factors to your grade.
Class wasn't too difficult, she is a good teacher and going into tests you feel you are ready but many of her questions are confusing, some are worded tricky and some have multiple answers that could be correct, 3 multiple choice tests, drops lowest, cumulative final, don't bother buying the book, just look over/print out and study the slides
I regret taking this online class. She is BORING and acts like the material is easier than it is (exams are harder than you expect). The only good thing is she drops one of the 4 exams- including the final. I watch every lecture and study and am getting Bs/Cs on her exams while getting As in neursoscience classes. It's def her teaching/tricky exams
This class is BORING! I thought I'd be interested from the description but unless you want to listen to a boring professor read off boring slides and give you hard tests, don't take this class! Not worth it at all, would be better if her tests weren't so detailed and tricky.
Took online over summer. DIFFICULT, but interesting and worthwhile. Very helpful during office hours, and offers lots of useful review material. Lectures can be dry but the content is excellent. I'd recommend taking it online during spring or fall, just because you have to watch ALL the lectures (don't slack!) and cramming that in can be difficult.
This class is pretty hard because there's soooooo much material to cover. She moves pretty quickly through the material, so if you fall behind on the readings, you're pretty screwed for the test. She's really nice and helpful though, so if you read the book, come to class and study, you'll do fine. She's pretty fair with tests too.
i love this class. the professor is so nice and always willing to help. three exams and a cummulative final. the exams are all multiple choice and come straight from your notes. her lectures are very fast paced but you can fill in the gaps in your notes because she posts the slides online. she is a very good professor
Patty Walsh is boring and has an annoying voice. There's not much else to be said. I suppose she's interested in the material but it doesn't really come off. There's a lot to study so really be prepared (especially for the cumulative final). Lab is pointless and excruciatingly long but helps to raise your grade
Worst. Professor. Ever. When she lectures, she doesn't make sense, often switching topics back and forth. Her exams are full of trick questions and questions that honestly don't make any sense at all. The lab is a joke. I thought this would be a simple class, but she manages to muddle biology. Don't take her, find someone else.
annoying voice that makes it difficult to follow even the simplest of topics. not to mention she is very unclear. all of her clicker questions are a trick of some sort and results in a poor clicker grade. she will teach a section and then try and trick you five minuets later via clicker. dreaded going to this class. i have lost all interest in bio
Look, you either know the material or you don't. The only part of the course I disagreed with was her clicker policy. If you're sick and have a doctor's note, she still doesn't give you credit for those missed dates. That's just unfair. The material is hard if you 1. don't pay attention 2. don't study 3. completely suck at science.
She's okay. doesn't really influence how you do in the class in my experience- I did all the work and learning/studying on my own. Try to keep up with the reading cause otherwise it can get overwhelming and there's a lot of material. Take advantage of the textbook website!
What a horrendous teacher. Not only is her voice completely irritating to listen to during class, but she is extremely confusing. The actual material is simple if you have taken a HS bio course, but she manages to screw it up and make you feel stupid! Don't take it!
Prof. Walsh is OK. Lectures are definitely boring, but there's not much you can do with the basics of biology. She posts her PPTs online, so you can download them before class and take notes in the notes section (I would suggest this so you're not typing everything already written on the slide). Tests are 50~ multiple choice and a little difficul
The class was very hard, the tests could of been easier but its worded to trick you.
Took this class online over the summer. Her classes are pretty boring and she's not the clearest of teachers. However, if you do the readings and study for the exams you'll be able to pull off an A. 4 exams, drops the lowest exam grade to half the point value. Extra credit assignments.
She was very boring and had a monotone. Only reason I came to class was the use of clicker points. Her tests are worded to trick you, even if you know the information.
Super easy. She does the best she can to make the material interesting and she's pretty nice. Go to class for clicker points and know the textbook (which is super easy to understand) and you should to fine. It's a college class so you can expect that she'll word things to trick you on the test, but if you studied, you'll know it.
This class is very time consuming but as long as you keep up it is not too bad. She gives a good variety of assignments to help your grade -3tests, lab, weekly online hw, clicker questions, and the final. Also, she drops your lowest test grade. Patricia is very passionate when talking about biology. It's great.
She is really nice and understanding. If you read the book, go to lecture, and do the online homeowrk you will do just fine! The exams aren't that tricky, some of the questions come right from the online homework.
Most definitely have to attend the lectures for the clickers. Labs were pointless-but you have to do well. I came out with a C, even though I went to office horus and asked for much help. The final was hard. She does drop the lowest exam grade & the grading scale is on a curve.
Kind of annoying but not to hard, she's okay at teaching but not the best
There are no other options for this class, sadly. Attendance is required as she does use a clicker. If you're lucky, you will get easy TAs for lab which can be a pretty easy grade booster. Frequent online homework assignments and weekly lab homework which aren't too complex. The final is a mix of questions from the three exams during the semester.
Considering that this is a 100 level class, it's pretty difficult. I took two years of advanced bio in high school and I got a C in this class. The tests are difficult and not easy to study for. If I could do it again I wouldn't have taken this class.
I took this class online and I didn't really use the textbook for this class. I paid a lot of attention the lecture slides. Definitely go to her office hours if you have a question about her tests. Sometimes she will give points out. Also, make sure if she gives out extra credit, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT.
I was scared to take a biology course, but Dr. Walsh made it worthwhile. I learned so much from her, and I would recommend taking bio with her to anybody. Excellent professor.
Very nice, but it is a hard class
She kept it interesting, and while attendance wasn't mandatory, it really helped AND you got participation points with the clickers.
One of my favorite teachers! She is very passionate about biology and is the cutest lady ever. Her tests aren't easy but if you study a good amount you get B's. She is a very nice lady and is eager to help whenever.
So helpful. Very good teacher and really cares about each student individually. Will do anything to help you however she does expect you to learn and pay attention which is good. Her tests are very tricky so you need to know your stuff. Definitely recommend
- Go to class: clicker questions. - Take notes on what she is saying as well as what she is writing. - homework is so easy cuz you can google the answers and take the pre/post test. Lab is boring but easy. Lectures are all posted online. I suggest reading the book but focusing more on her lectures. Tests are designed to trick you - TAKE YOUR TIME!
Very nice teacher but tests are so hard! I would not take this class if you aren't good at bio!
Large class, she's willing to help those who want it. I didn't, not much evaluation before exams which are ridiculously hard.
This class is pretty difficult for a 100 level class. Read the lecture notes and the textbook. The tests weren't too awful if you take the time to study and actually learn the material, instead of just memorizing it. There are 4 exams and the lowest exam grade is out of 50 points instead of 100 so it helps.
Clickers, so attendance is mandatory. Online homework, but you get three tries, so it's hard to get a bad grade on them. The information is pretty hard for a 100 level class, but as long as you follow her lecture notes, you should be fine.
Tests are difficult for a 100 level non biology major class. aooo many clicker questions so you basically have to go to class. Lab is kind of difficult too. Not as easy as i thought this class would be. Professor Walsh is nice. Powerpoints are not online.
so many clicker questions, she doesn't remember anyone and made everything more confusing than it actually was. i had to teach myself from the text book. the exams are extremely difficult for a non-major class.
She is very deidicated to her work and teaches slowly and carefully. There are 4 exams, but clicker questions and masteringbiology homework are an easy way to get an A. If you don't like the science you will have to work extra hard, but for science majors like myself, it was a walk in the park! she also offers many ways to help improve your grade.
Good Professor. She definitely knows what she is talking about. Her tests are super hard for a 100 entry level class so make sure you study...A LOT! If you read the book the homework is easy. Overall she is an O.K. professor
Walsh is really nice. She babies the information to you. She teaches literally from the textbook and the questions from mastering biology are from there too. If you want an easy A, take her class. The info isn't hard, it's just high school bio. good for non majors. just don't annoy her, and you're fine
Very sweet lady. Tries to make classes interesting, even though Biology isn't the world's most interesting topic. Study from the text book and do the homeworks, practice quizzes, and study tests on Mastering Biology and you will do fine on exams. Questions for exams are basically the same as the practice quizzes online. Great professor
She's pretty nice. Don't talk in her class she hates that. She has clicker questions every day so make sure you go to class. Lab was easy I got an A and got a B + for the class. Exams can be tricky just make sure you really know the material.
She's pretty nice and very clear. Teaches straight from the textbook but she has clicker questions everyday so go to class. Exams CAN be tricky but overall fairly straightforward. Definitely recommend professor Walsh.
Walsh is a super nice lady. I'm a science person (especially bio) so this class was a breeze for me. It's basically AP biology but not as involved. My roommate seemed to struggle and she isn't a bio person, but there are tons of resources on Mastering Biology to help you study. The lab is a lot for 100 level, but it's nice if you like bio.
She is definitely a good teacher and knows what she is talking about, but she has an extremely annoying voice and you listen to her talk the entire class. I found this class to be quite difficult and I did study for it. However, I am not good at science. If you are just taking this class to fulfill a lab requirement, dont do it unless you enjoy bio
Took this class to satisfy my science with a lab requirement. Though it isn't awful, I feel like there are better courses to take. My exam grades never reflected how I felt I did on them because the questions are uncomfortably specific. Her PowerPoints aren't too helpful but she does strictly follow the book. The material isn't too difficult.
She's a nice teacher, but the material is hard to grasp if you aren't naturally good in Biology/forget info you learned in High School. Notes directly follow the textbook; come to class. She has clicker questions and explains confusing info from the textbook. Tests are hard to get used to. Mastering Bio/clicker q's significantly help your grade.
Great teacher. Shows videos in lecture at least once a week. Attendance is mandatory because she does clicker questions every class. If you just show up to class you will most likely do really well. The labs are probably the hardest part of the class and thats only because its taught by a different instructor. I strongly recommend this course.
I loved this class. Professor Walsh was very clear about what we had to know for tests as well as describing things clearly in class. If you go to her office hours for help she will greatly help you. She wants her students to do well in her class so as long as you put in a little effort you will do well in the class.
Hated this class, hated this professor even more. Attendance is mandatory because of clicker questions but she was so unfriendly and boring that it made class miserable. She treats you like you're in high school and really makes the class infinitely harder than it needs to be. Take a different class for your lab science, she's not worth it at all.
Lectures are pretty simple and straightforward if you stay on top on the material and the text. Read the textbook! If you read the sections as you do the online assignments, it's easy to stay on top of it and it 100% without a doubt will benefit you in the long run. Go into the class with a good mindset and you'll be fine!
She puts her lectures on UDCapture. Clicker points and attendance. If you forget your clicker or their is a technological problem she wont accept it. Go to class. Has reviews and those go on UD Capture. Wasnt my favorite.
If you're looking for an easy bio class, this is not it. Clarity is nonexistent and this class is way too difficult for non-majors.
Dr. Walsh's tests are absolutely ridiculous. They're made to trick you up. Tests are the biggest part of your grade by far, so it's really hard to do well. Every test is curved in order to make the average a 70. Lab is extremely boring and pointless. Dr. Walsh tells students they're going to fail when they come to office hours instead of help them.
I liked this class. You have to get the clicker points in class but the best way I learned was by reading the book the day before the test. You're allowed laptops in class which is good and you can go to a later lecture if you miss your time.
One of the worst classes I have ever taken at UD. I studied weeks in advance, went to every class, and did all the homework and still could't manage to pass. They treat this 100 level class like you're all bio majors. DON'T take this horrible class
This class confused me.. its for non majors however I feel like she taught us as if we were bio majors. The labs were boring and dumb but we got out early every time. Lab final was ridiculously hard. I went to her office hours once and she's so nice and was very helpful but I still don't understand this stuff
I took this course upon the basis that I really enjoyed Bio in highschool. I thought it would be an interesting course that I already had a background in so I would be OK. Dead wrong. Walsh's tests are cynically tricky and incredibly difficult. Not to mention the "lab" portion of the course was like pulling teeth. Please, non-majors, avoid.
Do NOT read the textbook to study, rewatch the classes you struggled with and retake notes. The textbook has a lot of information, most of which she does not cover in classon tests. She ONLY tests on class information. If you put in the effort, you'll get the grade you want. Lab final is difficult, which is annoying.
I actually liked this class which surprised me. I've never liked bio but Professor Walsh is a great teacher so she made it enjoyable. She's very clear and kind, her tests are fair, and her lectures are pretty good for an intro to bio class. No cumulative exams, just 4 tests, all M.C. The lab portion's boring and its final is pretty hard but doable.
This was supposed to be an entry level, intro to Biology class, and i have to say it is NOT structured that way. Walsh's lectures are much more advanced than a non-bio major can handle. She was constantly using vocab that she assumed we already knew, but a lot of us didn't. Its not impossible to do well but its harder than it should be.
Walsh is an okay teacher. Sometimes i find that shes too smart that she doesn't know how to teach to non-majors. The material she teaches is really broad and the tests are really specific, so get ready to take time out of class to really read the text book. I found that Khan Academy and Crash Course reeeeeallly helped me with a lot of her tests.
Very sassy. Cant ask questions and tests are difficult
The tests are ridiculously difficult. She gives a lot of attitude when you ask questions. She also tests on ALOT of material and questions on exams are VERY specific. Wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone taking Bisc104.
She has the hardest tests ever, they are worded so wrong. I walked out of each one thinking I did well and getting a 68, She gives a nasty attitude to students, and is way too advanced for a non-major course.
Great class. Tests were fair and she was very good at explaining material. Followed the book very closely so would suggest getting it. Lab was easy too, overall good course. Took it for my lab requirement and I would recommend it to others. Gives helpful study guides for each chapter too.
Honestly, this class covered a lot of info from my 10th grade honors bio class. you do have to study for exams, but everything is pretty clear. I really enjoyed this class She has a curriculum and sticks to it, because she's done this for years. I would recommend
This class was way too advanced for a nonmajor course. Walsh was not helpful and the tests were so incredibly hard. Take this course with a different teacher 100%
Professor Walsh is a great teacher overall. As long as you take notes during lectures, participate for clicker questions, do the weekly online homework, and put a good amount of time into studying, you will do fine. She is very friendly, but tests can be tricky so make sure you study. Labs can be boring, but they often finish early.
For this class it is imperative that you take the time to read the textbook and also watch/attend the lectures as she gives hints to exam questions. The exams are challenging, but if you actually take the time to study it won't be hard to receiver an A in this course. It's definitely not an easy A! She also uses clickers for points!
If you have retained a basic understanding of high school biology, this course will be super easy for you. Her material is straight to the point and very simple for anyone with a high school education. She's a sweet lady, and does her best to teach the material in a way that's for nonmajors. The textbook and online homework are easy and interesting
Take this class! Pay attention to her lectures in class and you will do fine on the exams! She has UD capture which is helpful along with mastering biology which is very helpful but can be tricky! Labs are very easy and a great grade booster!
Dr. Walsh is a solid professor. Lectures are very clear and have a theme of relating concepts to practical applications (smoking, drinking, DNA testing). Homework can be rather tedious. Overall, I would strongly recommend Dr. Walsh as this course was a great fulfillment of my science with a lab breadth requirement.
Boring lectures, she's clearly into it, but can't engage with students. Clicker questions count towards grade, tests and homework. Everything is multiple choice. Not very easily accessible over email b/c it's a big class. Had to take it, would hate to do it again.
Avoid taking this class AT ALL COSTS. Unfortunately, she is the only person who teaches it and there is really no way out of it if you need it for your major. The fact that this is called "bio for non-majors" is a joke. She is useless, does not care whether or not the students do well, and is extremely rude. Will NOT tell you what is on exams.
I am not a science person, but I did find this class to be very challenging, there are no study guides, so take notes and so the homework!! She talks really fast
She is nice, but her exam... not
Although she does not take attendance, she does use clicker questions as a component of her grading. (If you do not go to class you can't answer the clicker questions.) Overall, I would still take going to this class seriously because her lectures are very informative and vital to take notes. The tests are somewhat difficult if you do not study.
This class was hard for a 100 level and it being mostly a mandatory course. I took it online & it was harder than normal. You watch lectures on canvas & take the mindtap quizzes. Exams are hard but all multiple choice. The textbook is 100% mandatory. The exams are literally based off the textbook. Not a fan of this course.
It was a bit hard but if you went to class, took notes, and studied you can pass. She uses clickers and has "learning guides" which are like study guides for each chapter. She loved what she taught but it could be confusing for a non-major. Lectures could be boring but they are on course capture. She really wants you to understand the material
A nice woman but doesn't know what she's teaching. Notes are all over the place and takes clicker attendance (and grades you on clicker questions. Not an easy class and tests are completely unrelated to lecture and textbook notes.
She is a great professor. She explains the material well and is very approachable. She counts i-clicker questions for attendance so go to class. I definitely recommend her!
This was one of the harder classes I've taken. Boring lectures and hard exams. Lab is ridiculously long and there is a lab final. Walsh isn't super helpful during office hours. Nice lady but I didn't enjoy this course I thought she made it harder than it had to be for non majors.
Walsh is a nice lady but isn't really the best teacher. The class is boring and you get graded on clicker correctness. Offers no extra credit, so make sure not to fail any tests or you'll have to redo the whole thing.
This class in VERY hard for a 100 level course for non majors. Be prepared to read the entire textbook in order to prepare for exams. Exam questions are tricky. This class isn't impossible, but you will not pass without a sufficient amount of effort.
She's nice and a fair teacher. There are iClickers but you can get away with skipping. The class definitely requires some studying.
Dr. Walsh is a very nice lady. This class isn't too hard, but it definitely requires studying. You need to go to class because she gives clicker participation points. the class is on capture and its a big lecture hall so if you miss its not a huge deal.
She is a very nice women, she actually cares about the students. She hold review sessions before exams. The test are hard, in order to do well you have to do all your homework and read the textbook. The class is not hard to pass because their is clicker points, lab grade, homework points and then 4 exams and the final is not cumulative
Dr Walsh is a phenomenol Professor. As long as you go to class and actually pay attention, and keep up with readings and homework you are guaranteed to do well. Definitely go to office hours if you need help because she truly wants you to succeed and will help you if you ask for it. I highly recommend!
The worst professor you could possibly have. She make no sense in lecture and is no help in her office hours. Basically called me dumb when I went to go ask for help once, and she told me to switch classes. Gives you no time to answer the clicker questions, and talks really fast as if everyone understands it. She's overall just rude and annoying.
Learned more from teaching myself out of the textbook than from going to class. Lectures are dull and very vague. Definitely need to study to get a decent grade on tests. She means well and is very kind, but not the best at teaching biology for non-biology majors.
one of the best professors I've had at UD so far! Definitely take her class if possible. She is so easy to talk to and really cares about all her students. Read the textbook, go to office hours and ask questions if needed!
Professor Walsh is a very sweet lady and really cares about her students. She does clicker question every class. They aren't hard but it really helps your grade if you go to class. She also uses course capture so if you miss a class you can watch it online. She always offers extra help and has review sessions for every exam. I would take her again!
Seriously though she does not know how to teach. It surprises me that they assigned her to teach a bio class for non-majors. Everything I know if from prior knowledge but somehow she doesn't know how to explain things properly in biology. She's very vague and will rush through things. Clicker questions and hw's take 30 minutes twice a week busywor
she's not the best at lecturing but she's really nice and tries her best. she doesn't count attendance but instead does clicker points every class. there is homework basically every night but its easy.
What she lectures on is what's going to be on the exams. Her lectures go in depth. She holds review sessions before every exam. Homework twice a week and is very helpful toward the exams.
Professor Walsh is a very nice professor. However, her BISC 104 course is extremely difficult. You have to pay attention to the smallest details in her lectures or else you won't get what she's talking about. Exams are very specific and can tend to trick you up. Homework is also the same way. If you plan to take this course prepare to work.
Sweet lady. It just was really hard to convince myself to show up. Its a boring class and easy to zone-out. She posts videos on capture but doesn't post the power point or study guides which I would prefer because I don't want to watch 50 minute videos. You also don't find out your average until the end which is frustrating.
Lectures and HW dont help on the exams at all, and she doesnt care if youre struggling. Wont offer help or answer emails for days, youll have to teach yourself everything. This is NOT a class for non majors. Seriously made me contemplate dropping out of college altogether.
I'm reading negative reviews so I thought I'd share my experience. The pandemic made it half online. She gives simple daily clicker quizzes. Before each exam she compiled a canvas page of recordings, Q&A's, lectures, etc. I can see what others are talking about, definitely you have to study on your own. She's so nice tho. Some labs were hard.
Worst
The lectures coordinate with the textbook chapters. To do well on the tests, which are not cumulative, just take notes in the class (lectures are posted on course capture), do the homework (which is online twice per week using Pearson), and study the available reviews guides. She is helpful in office hours and answers questions clearly.
this class is SO hard considering it is an intro level class. I study so hard for every exam and barely pass. lectures are super confusing and not very helpful. exams are very very hard! get ready to study for hours for the exams or you won't pass.
This was a hard class and not even for my major. I also took it through covid-19 so it made the labs harder. Also used proctorU for exams and they're hard to work with.
Took this class over summer and it was too much material condensed into a short period. Professor Walsh had pre-recorded classes that were no help in learning the material or narrowing down what was going to be on the exams. I ended up pulling up utube instruction instead. There were no study sessions before the exams. A teach yourself class.
