Very hard teachers to understand. She always busy doing her other work for her other classes. The way she grades is very confusing. Hard to contact her and she never returns your email.
Great professor. Lectures and then allows you to engage the material yourself. Does not hold your hand, but is always ready, willing, and able to answer any questions. Very straightforward. If you are smart and disciplined, the class is cake. If not, life in general will be your downfall, not prof zuk.
not encouraging. Do not her. Bad.
Professor Zuk is an amazing professor! She is not at all easy but if you put the hardwork in with studying, attending lectures, recording lectures and asking questions; you will walk away with feeling like you've grasped the subject matter. I would recommend this class to anyone that really wants to grasp this difficult subject matter.
Makes class interesting. No need for textbook; just print her powerpoint presentations and highlight what she dicusses. Good info on her website. Grades on a curve and no overall final. Allows bluebook notes duing exams. Will answer all questions. Good sense of humor. Overall I would recommend her.
Sarcastic to her students when they ask questions. Teaches a lot of cellular biology and tests on it rather than the Physio class you paid for. Unhelpful to students--telss tham to ask questions but gets annoyed when they do. Seems that she would rather have quick questions on tests rather than seeing her students learn. Would not take her ever.
You must record the lectures. Good professor. Getting an A will require at least 3-4 hours of studying/day!
She is extremely engaging. She does so by really crafting each lecture to communicate all the concepts into easily digestible pieces. She inserts humor and her own life. Her tests demand a lot, but the end result is a true satisfaction that you are walking away knowing more than you ever expected. I cannot recommend Professor Zuk more hig
Loved this class. Prof. Zuk is funny and a great professor. Does not wait for those that don't ask questions or don't know the basics. in other words she teaches at a university level. she does not use a textbook only slides.
I took her for anatomy and physio. She's very easy going and there's no surprises. Honestly, I wish she was more knowledgeable and put more effort into teaching, but she what she teaches is crystal. Didn't study too much for either class, showing up to lecture and comprehending what she is saying REALLY helps. Id recommend her to anyone
Enjoyed her class.
Prof. Zuk is engaging, well spoken, and personable. She received a ROUND OF APPLAUSE at the end of her last lecture! Grades fairly (she wants you to understand the material and do well on tests). TESTS: MC + fill in. Beware- SAT style questions require critical thinking. *TIPS: preview powerpoint, RECORD lectures, study 2+ hours/day = A.
Dr. Zuk is great! She is passionate about biology and yet understanding when it comes to both grading and workload she gives her students. Her lectures are at times verbose (power points for 1 lecture was over 80 slides), but she's fair. Drops lowest test score, lab is chill, didn't even have to take the final! You should take her if you need Bio!
Love Prof. Zuk, she is intelligent knows her stuff and makes the class fun. Recommend her for anatomy and physiology.
Love Professor Zuk. Very funny and kept us all awake in her night class. Has a passion for what she's teaching and good at explaining the material. She draws lots of diagrams but they WILL DEFINITELY help you for the exams. I would recommend her for physio!
Her power point notes are very clear and extremely helpful! Yes she is hilarious and worked my rear end off to earn my "A grade".Thank you Dr.Z!!!!!!
get ready to grind. this class will make u learn biology like second nature. over 300 slides per test that are clear cut and make sense. tough class to get an A so u really need to work HARD. nothing comes easy. better study 2+ hrs a day
BAD BAD BAD
GET ON YOUR GRIND. You must study every day you are in this class. Bio is no joke but Professor Zuk makes it manageable with her clear slides and lectures.
Prof Zuk is very bright and she is also a researcher at UCLA. She likes to tell jokes but she stays focused during her lectures and she is very helpful. She mentioned that she is much tougher with her Bio 6 and 7 students, which makes sense, so to everyone taking Bio6 or 7, quit complaining, what did you expect from advanced Bio? Expect to read!
Zuk is fantastic! She's clear on what it takes to get A and how to do it. Her lectures are interesting and she's really funny. Be prepared to memorize a lot. She drops 1 exam, her exams are 50 questions, and lab is self studyinglearning. I'd take her again :)
Zuk is a great professor. Anatomy requires a lot of memorizing; therefore if you don't invest the time to study you will not pass. Her lectures are clear and she does supply all the power points for the entire semester, as well as, study guides and test reviews on the first day. Specific text is not required, just any anatomy book will be fine.
Her exams are hard. Be prepared to know EVERYTHING, she won't tell you what to focus on. Points are taken off for misspelling. On the practices it's difficult to distinguish what exactly she has labeled to be identified. She's really cool & funny though. She's a good professor if you prefer to learn on your own. I'm not this student - I got a C :(
Took Professor Zuk's class last spring, after 7 long years in community college. Currently attending UCI, so I can say with utmost honesty and respect that you will be lucky to have her for bio. She's passionate, funny but on-task, straightforward, and makes you earn your grade. I was an SMC student, but went to WLAC just to take her for Bio 7.
Memorizing is not enough, you have to understand the material really well to do good on her tests. Be prepared, test 2 is the worst. If you study every day and keep track you'll get the A.
Professor Zuk is an awesome teacher, who cares about her students. Her lectures are interesting, keeping everyone entertained with cool facts or funny stories. I recommend taking a class with her if you want to learn. But don't expect an easy A, I had to work my butt off to get an A in Bio 6&7! If you take Bio6 &7 together, study ,study, study!
really great professor. engaging, funny, and clear on what she expects from her students. definitely recommend.
You have to do a lot of studying on your own. Her explanations sometimes aren't very clear. Her test questions can be pretty tricky, you have to really know and understand material. She has a great personality, but not the best teacher in my opinion. Doesn't drop any tests, extra credit questions are usually last couple questions at end of test.
great instructor, however there's lot of learning on your own which is not the best if your a student who is working. she Is not always welcoming when you have a question. she lets you record her and welcomes any technology aids. I enjoyed her class very much but would not take her again
Very challenging class, but she will prepare you for any pre-health/pre-science degree. She is really helpful if you communicate with her. if you do your part, she will do her part as well. plus she's really funny and keeps everyone awake! she also curves and gives extra credit so even though it's hard, you can do well if you REALLY work for it
Bio7 is serious stuff but Dr. Zuk is a pro, going to office hours, reviewing her lecture and lab powerpoints everyday, (EVERY) and ID'ing all of the structures for the practicals are the only way to go, Zuk returns the favor at the end of the semester with an extra credit project, and easy test 5, but she also helps you from day 1--- A85%
Professor is very outgoing and easy to talk to. You have to do your part and study your tail off if you want a good grade. She has a curve on her tests but the tests are hard. Study with classmates and don't cheat. Overall, she's a good teacher. Just a lot of studying. I got a B and I worked my tail off. There is extra credit at the end.
she's not a horrible teacher, just expect ALOT of studying and memorization. This class is honestly useless but it is a requirement for any student that wants to go into the medical field. She's down to earth and easy to talk to but tests are really hard. She makes you think outside the box. Take her at your own risk but she isn't a horrible teacher
Exams are really hard, you gotta learn world by world of her lecture notes.
BEST PROFESSOR EVERRRRRR!!!!!
Dr P is an AMAZING professor. I took her during Winter session and loved it. She creates a great learning environment for her students. Be prepared that you have to work hard in anatomy and dedicate time. Make sure to study the laundry lists and dedicate time to study and you will do fine. study study study!! repetition will help you do well
Dr. Zuk is an expert in her field, a published researcher, and a gifted teacher. You can tell she actually enjoys spending time in the classroom with her students. Her enthusiasm is refreshing in the face of other uninspired profs. Pace of the class is brutal but doable with good time management. Give it honest effort and you will not regret it!
I cannot say enough how wonderful professor she is. I would take her classes over and over again. She is a true magical teacher. You want to be in her class, and study. She will make you work for it, but it is truly rewarding 200 percent!!!! If you don't want to work hard, this teacher is not for you. Plus, she is hilarious, fun and full of energy.
SHE IS TOUGH BE READY TO WORK HARD she is now giving take home exams but don't be fooled she is a very tough grader and lecture heavy she speaks super fast but she is hilarious she expects you to put in the effort for the grade you want this class isn't a joke 85% is an A but don't let that fool you overall great teacher just work hard
Worst class ever taken and dont recommend anyone to take the course if they dont want to destroy their GPA. The study guides dont cover the test/ exams. She doesnt explain the topics, just read off the slides and drew pictures on the board. Take home exams graded poorly even when answer came straight out the text books. Waste of a semester.
I took three classes with Prof. Zuk and I adore her. She is enthusiastic, knowledgable, quick and full of energy. She draws the concepts on the board in the form of graphs, tables, and charts. Very helpful! Tests are no joke; you have to understand the concepts or you won't pass. She allows a few pages of notes during exams and gives extra credit.
Nice teacher but gives too much material in such a short amount of time. Difficult test and thats the only thing her class consist of. Not a good class if you are taking other classes.
This was my 2nd time taking Anatomy. I dropped the 1st class after the 1st week because the professor was awful. Prof. Zuk is great! She cares about her students. She doesn't just read from her slides, she draws on the board & breaks everything down. Anatomy is a hard class no matter what, you have to put in work. She helps make it easier. Got an A
She is a great Professor.I didnt pass the class however learned so much! 5 exams plus optional final. Two take home exams and lets you use notes for in class exams. Dont be fooled it sounds easy but the material is extremely difficult. Final will replace lowest score if you take it. She is willing to help and makes the lectures funny!
This is my 2nd time taking anatomy. It's a 5weeks course during winter. Anatomy is all about 'brute force memorization'. Dr. Zuk's amazing and very helpful. We spend most of the time in Lab playing with models. She allows us to stay after class for studying. Group study is a key for success. Teaching each other will help you reviewing materials.
Nice professor. Not very diffcult easy, but her lectures are very long and she just read the lectures without braking down the informations. she expect u to know everthing. She teaches one to two chapters in class meeting, u will not understand the lecture if u have not read the book before class. she just thorws all the inforamation at you.
Professor Zuk truly cares about her students! She was responsive and understanding that this class was difficult because it was completely online (COVID19). Her exams are very difficult, but it will be rare to find an Anatomy/Physio course that is an easy A. The class is curved (85% is an A) and she provides EC on the exams. Lectures can be tedious
I would not take Bio 6 with Mrs. Zuk again. The tests were super hard and she never gave us study guides. The tests were also the entire grade. Labs, quizzes, homework, etc... did not count for anything. She said that it was to prepare students to go to medical school, but in reality the majority of us are not planning on going to med school.
I just dropped this course after the first test. It was so hard and she asked questions that were not related to the text. Zuk seemed very impersonal and detached from the class. She says that her lectures are narrated, but they dont work for me and a lot of other people. I previously took Bio 7 with Mirmovitch in the summer and it was way better.
I will be brutally honest. Patty Zuk is not a great instructor. All of her lectures are asynchronous and do not cover lots of material that are on the tests. Also, she does not respond to her emails. She was on top of it at the beginning of the semester, but I think she forgot. I emailed her over two weeks ago and still have not gotten a response.
I am currently in this class and I wish I took it with Kareen Martin. Patricia just does not seem like a nice person. Also, it is very hard to contact her outside of her office hours which happen only once a week for 1 hour. She also grades her tests harshly and does not tell you how she will grade things until they are already graded. Bad teacher.
So I just failed my second biology test. I studied for a whole week, but the information on the test was not covered in her powerpoints. At first, I did not believe these recent negative reviews. Now, I realize they are 100% correct! This teacher definitely does not care about her students. It feels like she thinks of her students as numbers.
I am not a fan, theres nothing else to say.
We basically have to teach ourselves in this class. We have no interaction with the teacher. We just read powerpoints (around 250+ slides) and take a really difficult test on it. PowerPoints dont really help. Nothing really helps me to do well on tests. For some reason, she made us take a test today, the Monday after Thanksgiving break.
Some professors just cant teach online classes and she is one of them. The exams are extremely hard and the lectures dont cover all of the material. Youre graded on just the exams and it seems like she goes out of her way to make the course harder, she takes off points for any little things. Hard to contact, her office hours are only once a week
I loved taking Bio 6 with Zuk online this semester. The entire grade is based on the lab tests and lecture tests and she drops the lowest grade from each. Some lab tests are take home. The cumulative final is optional. I self taught myself the class by reading her PowerPoints. Get ready to read those! Theres also Labster extra credit!
The grade in this class is only based off tests. Luckily there is some extra credit, but she offers much less than other biology teachers at this college. The required percentage to get an A is a little lower than other biology teachers. Overall, this class was hard. I just read the PowerPoints over and over again. I never played the audio once.
This biology class was entirely asynchronous. This made it very flexible, which I enjoyed. I know that Kareen and Vered have required synchronous lectures, so take Biology with Patricia if you want a flexible schedule. Patricia is not as bad as some of these reviews say she is. Just know that this class is asynchronous and there is no hand holding.
I just finished the class yesterday. 85% is an A and I just made it! This professor grades quite nicely. Tests are mostly multiple choice with some short answer, fill in the blank, and check all that apply. Tests are open note but there definitely is not enough time to find the answers if you dont study. I learned this the hard way in the 2nd test
I just finished with an A after taking my optional final today. The optional final is useful because it replaces the lowest test score. I would say the 2nd test was the hardest test, then the 3rd, 4th, 1st, and lastly 5th. Final is somewhere in between the 4th and 1st test. I needed to take the final due to how poorly I did on the 2nd test.
Save yourself, nothing in the lecture sides are on the exams. Must buy expensive McGraw Hill access code.
I got an A grade, so I have very little to complain about Zuk. Nothing in Zuks class was graded besides her lecture and lab exams. The lab exams were take home half the time and these were always super easy. The lecture exams were 75% easy. The hard questions were impossible to answer. However, she gave us tons of extra credit and 85% is an A
Online. Exams were Medium Level. Gives Extra Credit. Labster not too many. Narrated Powerpoints were engaging and easy to understand. Doable class not hard. Textbook no use. No HW. Didn't have to study a crazy amount. not live zoom which allows flexibility. Don't have to buy mcgraw hill.
Identifying parts by looking at models was tough since everything was online, however definitely doable. I raised my grade from C to A. I underestimated the class but later I knew I need to put some effort later on. She will work things out if you struggle. She responds fairly quickly.
I enjoyed this class but I was not expecting the amount of work in that class. You have 2 sets of tests on a testing day, the lecture and the lab. Lecture exams are easy if you look at her lecture slides. Her lab exams require more memorization, making it tougher. Don't take this in the 5-week session with other classes, it will kill you.
5wks WINTER, A LOT to memorize... A LOT! Free book available online, always available if you've questions, there are no mandatory meetings. Grades based on three lecture/lab practical exams pretty straight frwd grading. Get ready to live, eat, breathe and dream anatomy...!
Overall she's a great straight forward instructor. Keep in mind DO NOT take this class in summer or winter semesters, unless this will be your only commitment. I took it this 5 week term and that's all I did, eat, sleep, breath anatomy. She is fair enough to tell you that the first day of class. Quick to respond.
Honestly this class was not hard. I had to drop mirmovitxhs class because she required us students to meet every single day! Prof Sucks class has you do you boo vibes. She had lectures over PowerPoint. It was super chill. Just play the sound thats on the PowerPoint. After a while I just read the powerpoints without sound. I got an A. Easy.
Biology is not the easiest subject, but Im glad I took it with professor Patty. First of all, she is not stuck up at all. In fact on the first day of class, she encouraged us students to call her Patty, Patsy, Trisha, or whatever we wanted. Everyone is on a first name basis which is super nice. Also she gives very good feedback on tests.
I get that the Pandemic has changed things a lot, and some teachers have definitely risen to the challenge. Sadly this is not the case for Zuk. It must be a pretty sweet gig, as she barely has anything to do with the class. At least in terms of the asynchronous classes, we did not have a teacher, we had a textbook. She frequently is not available.
Idk why everyone is busy hating on Mrs. Zuk. She is a nice lady who puts together great lectures! The lectures are through powerpoints and are super flexible. No required meetings! I know Prof Martin and Mirmovitch require students to be in attendance, so take Bio with Zuk if you need a flexible schedule. Oh yeah, tests are the same for every prof
Great teacher! If you apply yourself more than I did you'll get an A!
Took Bio06 fully online! All is on canvas from yt videos and prerecord lectures! You have 3 Exams and 1 final are on canvas and you have 24hrs to complete. Quizzes are super easy. Labs are on labster! She's cool but his exams are annoying and boring. About 30 questions on each exam! Try making a quizlet to help you!
Bio 6 is the first semester of general biology and its no joke. It requires studying, and the questions often ask things that require you to apply your knowledge rather than simple rote memorization. However, an A is very possible by simply reading her power-points. I never listened to her voice, it wasnt helpful. Dont buy any virtual labs.
This class is quite difficult and not engaging at all. She expects you to teach yourself all the information. When it comes to exams, most of the questions are free response. Grades way too harshly its outrageous. Do yourself a favor and take a Professor that actually teaches you to save your GPA. Possibly the worst Professor of all time. Congrats
Beware of this Professor because youre in for a treat. The only things graded in this class are exams and some extra credit. If I knew this class was going to be this bad, I would have attempted to take it with another Professor. She grades too harshly and when I emailed her she pushed me off and I felt disrespected. Worst class ever.
She definitely makes you work for your grade. She responded quickly back to my emails and clarified anything that I didnt understand about the concepts we learned. Make sure to dedicate some time everyday, because if you start lagging you will inevitably fall behind. The optional final and extra credit took me from a B and boosted me up to an A.
Do NOT take her physiology class or any class of hers for that matter. We only get graded on exams and I find that extremely ridiculous and unrealistic. I don't care for her "lectures" which are just powerpts. If she was only grading us on exams she could at least make them less challenging. I'm currently failing it's impossible for me to pass.
The only reason I am taking the time to write this is because you need to hear this. The content of this class is already challenging, now add a teacher who decided to make a synchronous class asynchronous. Messy notes with incomplete sentence and a power poinT slide that looks likes an 8 year old put together. Put all of those things together RUN
She really doesn't engage in teaching AT ALL. She leaves you with a bunch of lengthy, messy power-point slides with her pre-recorded audio clips 'narrating' (literally reading word for word what is already on the slides) and expects the most from students. Your grade is only made up of exams. Exams with tough/tricky questions. Don't recommend her!!
Grade is based on exams and few extra credit assignments that in the long run, will only bring you up tenths of a percentage. Uses material said during lecture on exam but is not included on powerpoint nor is there a study guide so being prepared or confident for an exam is impossible. She is witty and nice, I'll give you that
Professor Zuk was excellent for Bio 007. She did not even require a purchase of the Lab manual that she coauthored. You can make a few mistakes and recover through a combination of extra credit and one optional Exam to replace a lower scored Exam. For me it was wonderful as I tried to work with Vered Mirmovitch previously, who is overbearing.
I had her for bio6/7, anatomy 001, and physiology 001. She is an awesome professor with a sense of humor who knows her stuff.
3.5 stars. I took the asynchronous class for fall 2nd 8 weeks, and I had back-to-back weeks of FIVE CHAPTER exams, insane. Most exams are in person, in the computer lab on your canvas. I get its biology but her Canvas modules were unorganized and A LOT. Exams are REALLY difficult, offered basically no extra credit, but she's nice, don't take her.
