This is a kill or be killed class. It takes effort to get a descent grade. Its a bit crazy sometimes, but have faith in your self and the teacher and things will work out for you if you accept the help and advice he offers. I wish I didnt take the class, but I definately got something from it.

I took speech 1318 with Patrick. I dont recommend anyone take this class if you dislike writing. Full of papers to write, and a very time consuming class. His final was TOO MUCH and was definately not nessasary for all that work.

Patrick was an awesome prof you have to have the mind set that you want to finish school to move on to bigger and better things so you must do as you are told the papers, quizzes, and discussions. No tests but he grades harder than an Engl prof so just take your papers to the tutoring center and you will be fine. You learn more than just speech.

I went into this class thinking it was going to be an EASY A, boy was I wrong. While I still got an A, it took a lot of time and effort. Patrick is awesome! Took this class ONLINE. Seriously goofy! He has an odd but very effective teaching style! I have had more fun in his class Online then any other class (standard, online, or otherwise) I have had. I think he's awesome. He has a hilarious sense of humor, and he really cares about the students. He can be a little emotional/passionate whatever you want to call it, but in the end he is always straightforward and just wants to help. Patrick is a fantastic professor and is reasonable, the work is simple and easy but can sometimes be overwhelming due to the rate it is given. The only downside is that he can sometimes be rude and will not hesitate to exaggerate your opposing opinion to make your views sound stupid to the rest of the class. A passionate teacher, loves his job as a teacher which is a rare trait in a teacher. Gives a lot of extra credit and grades your speeches based on YOU. Not as a whole. You can do 10x worse on a speech than a classmate who gives a great speech but you can make a higher grade than that classmate. Attendance and group work is encouraged.

I took this as a Winter Mini-mester. It is not difficult work, just lots of it BUT everything that you do will help you right papers faster and get good grades on the quizzes. You use the textbook every day and can take notes just by highlighting the chapters. Patrick is a good teacher, he wants you to learn and do well. He is a goof-ball !

I absolutley hated his class. I passed with a A but he was very rude and very dramatic. When your up doing a speech if he doesnt agree with something or doesnt like it he will make all kinds of faces and make you feel so insecure and nervous while your up there. It was alot of work his class required more time than all my other 3 classes together.

This was a great class! It really helps you later on in life when it comes to career situations. This class is all group work! Professor Barton does not teach an easy class, and if you're looking for a breeze-through speech class, this isn't it. But regardless of everything, one thing can be certain about Professor Barton: He cares. He cares profusely about your education and he will do the best he can to aid you in any way.

This by far the best example of how a class should be in college. It's tough at times but the benefits far exceed the negatives. Patrick also isn't just another professor he actually tries to build a bond with his students to better assist them. Patrick's classes are really interesting. You're put in teams for grades, there are class discussions, but there are individual assignments to watch for, too. Absolutely loved this class! Great people and a tremendous professor. Patrick gives 110% a really cares about his students. The only issue I had was the tremendous impact timing had on the overall speech grade. I believe more emphasis should be made more on the content, structure, and delivery, and less on the timeliness. He takes attendance personally, and lectures students for their peers. VERY TOUGH GRADER! The only way to make a good grade is through all the bonuses. You only use the textbook for the busy work he gives out. Worst part about this class is that he forces you into groups the whole semester, and your grade depends on that.

Patrick is a great teacher, but THIS IS NO BLOW OFF CLASS. I learned a lot from him, and he really wants you to succeed. There is a lot put into this class, both inside and out. Our class took volunteer hours, and a few out of class trips for extra credit. He really is passionate about the material and wants you to be too. A+ teacher, hard work.

Honestly he isn't a bad person but as a teacher I don't like him. He's very misleading and changes his mind a lot. His grading criteria isn't what i would call "Clear". If you're for being put on the spot, being called out, and being in class even when he's not there then go for it. If you're looking for something that'll help and easy then don't.

You have to be prepared for this class. He makes sure to tell you on the first day if he thinks you're able to handle the course load and work that this class offers. If you can't, drop the class and find another class or a different teacher to take. Participation matters, and there's six speeches in total. You have to speak in this class!

He is very condescending when he speaks to you, claims he wants to help then doesn't help at all. His lectures put me to sleep 100% of the time, although he tries his absolute hardest to be "inspirational." Wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.

He is a really good professor but the thing I didn't like is he forces you into group work and your grade depends on them. If yo get good team you are good, but not a little worry unless you work hard. Overall a good professor. Really he cares about the students and goes beyond limit to help the students. He cares and helps everyone to get succeed.

Patrick is awesome! By far one of my favorite classes. Definitely a hard grader, but if you try it will show in your work. He cares very much about what he does, and is genuinely concerned for the well being of his students. Definitely recommend to take this class, but be prepared to work for your grade.

Speeches aren't that hard as long as you stick to the way he tells you. As long as you try and do what you're told, you can get an A.

There is one rule for his class: You MUST follow his guidelines for speeches. He is very entertaining, inspirational and active professor. Gives a lot of extra credits.I took his class for summer and made an A. He encourages you to connect with other people, I actually made good friends in his class.

Grades are by points, not %, so you can get an A even if your speeches suck (he gives great feedback after). He tries to get to know everyone by their taste in music, jobs, etc. not much lecture; he talks to each students personally while everyone else do other things. he doesn't care much for grades; he cares more if you actually learn something.

This Prof was too perfect! He is a really easy and happy teacher to work with. His class, I would recommend to anyone wanting to make an easy A and wanting to actually WANT to come to class! Loved his class over all!

I would not recommend him. This class will drive you crazy for sure. 4 presentations with many writing assignments with very strict grading (more than a writing class), many HW, activities. Not enough, he still adds many and many HW during the course like you only take his class. Spending most of your life for this class, but o know pass or not

He talks way too much, writes way too much I have never met a professor who writes 4-5 pages long of instructions for one simple assignment. Very selfish he believes this class should be our main priority yet he won't get tired of preaching about how much he cares for his students. His hyperactive personality is dominating negatively this course.

He is an amazing professor that really cares about his students. He makes every lecture very creative. Going to class is actually fun. Participation is a must! However, if you are wrong he will never embarrass you for the wrong answer. Instead he always encourages you to learn from your mistake.

If you can DO NOT TAKE HIM AS YOUR SPEECH TEACHER! We have homework that is at least 5-16 pages long that we don't turn in! He says hes understanding, but he isn't. His class takes up more of your time then any other class you will have. As a person he a cool guy, but as a teacher he sucks. Almost everyone dropped his class for a reason.

Has problem on grading, based on anything else, not on your actual work. Spend time on doing papers but what you receive isnt fair. If you are a dedicated student you'll end up feeling miserable because nothing will please his criteria. if you are majoring in communication please don't take him, he's NOT a good role model. Don't take his class, you'll waste energy, time, money . His ego does not allow him to see his mistakes. He is not a professor, he does not teach anything.

Don't have any lecture or explanation, but very high expectations. Students must read all the instructions posted and manage to do everything by yourselves, and of course you will have many mistakes. then you receive many comments of your mistakes and low grades. We're students, not SPEECH prof. It's never enough for this teacher!

He won't be satisfied with anything his students do. You can't make him happy, no matter how hard you try on your speeches, or on your outlines you'll be bashed about it. Is a very horrible grader, even if the students gives it his/her all this guy won't care and will still give them a horrible ugly grade. you'll loose faith in humanity.

The way this teacher is about cellphones and how he hands out "barton bucks" for participation makes me feel like I'm in high school again. This was one of the most unorganized college courses I have ever taken. Every single assignment was very confusing or vague or too wordy. I'm sure he is a nice guy but I hate his style of teaching.

He talked about how rate my professor is not its a joke and he showed his calves and told us that he deserve chili pepper here. I think I went blind after I saw his calves. I wrote this review to make him not feel too bad and I also gave him a chili pepper even after he blinded me.

There are many problems in this class. Teaching method, surprised assignments and quiz without notice or very late before it. Students will run with time to do all of his stuff assigned.

The expectations are very high as master in speech, but the teaching method is high school. If he could adjust the types and number of assignments that he could grade sooner, it will be better. Too many writing papers takes time for grading. While students don't know this hw grade, we have another one dues. don't know what and how correct.

This class was super HARD, Harder than an English class. His expectations for assigments are ridiculous!!!. No matter how much effort you put in assigments, your grade will still suck. The whole semester was stresfull, he was not organazied and made it extremely confussing.

Patrick is the most playful and caring professor I've ever taken. He asks you to not call him "professor Barton", instead just Patrick. He really cares for his students and will do anything to help you. He assigns work, boo hoo. We're in college, if you want your A you have to work for it (surprise!). I definitely recommend Patrick.

Honestly if you do the work , show up for class you should be fine, if you need help to get a better understanding go visit him at his office hours he is always willing to help. I actually learned and made an A I worked hard to earn that A if you decide to take him just put in the work and youll be fine. Patrick if you see this you did great !!!

You will spend time for this class more than other. Although you are not major SPCH, this class will take your time than your major class. After you finish this class, you could candidate for politician SPCH. I am very tired when I studied this class. Trying the best to get high grade but really struggling bc his high expectations.

Patrick is an incredibly caring and understanding professor that will help his students if they ask. If you're falling behind, have questions, etc GO TO OFFICE HOURS and 9/10 times he will help you figure it out, doing nothing will result in a lower grade. He has incredibly high expectations for this class YOU WILL WORK.

He's a very difficult person to understand. You will work a lot and in order to get an A in this class you have to meet with him during office hours outside of class like every week. He grades very hard and his plagiarism rules make no sense. I don't suggest taking this class if you are not a major in speech or anything to do with public speaking.

Patrick is a great guy. He absolutely cares more than any other speech teacher out there. If your speaking skills don't improve under Patrick's instruction, then you're probably hopeless. However, his class is a ton of work and I don't recommend taking it if you anticipate having a full schedule. His instructions are sometimes a little vague.

Patrick is a great professor. He's encouraging, really cares, and very energetic. He encourages you to come to his office hours so that he can really help you one on one. He was one of the few professors who showed how much he cared about us, and our grades. His instructions were a unclear at times, but more than happy to answer questions.

Patrick is a really great person. His class is actually useful, but It is a very heavy workload. Although the class is hard, if you can get through It, It really pays off. I would not reccomend taking this class though, because of the workload. But if you do decide to take It, try to stick it out because It gets easier the closer you get to the end

Patrick was an awesome professor. He cares about his students, and will always be there to lend a hand. But do not take his class if you are a reserved person. He will definitely make you leave your comfort zone A LOT. If you have ever wanted Spongebob to be your teacher, this is your guy.

Do not take this professor, I have been taking college courses for the past few semesters and never have I had so much work in a class. His grading system makes no sense, there is no breathing room there is always an assignment. He says he doesn't want this class to be the most important thing in your life, but it will be, he gives that much work.

This Professor has good intentions with his students but fails to do so. He said he does not want this class to be your life but it basically is. There is always an assignment due and apparently logging into an "online class" is an everyday thing even though the point of an online class is due to the fact that you cannot attend a physical one.

Let me start off by saying that Professor Barton is hands down THE most caring & compassionate teachers I have had in awhile. That being said, if you have a busy personal, school, or work schedule; DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! It's a very heavy work load & many of his assignments leave you questioning up until the due date. He expects 8 hours weekly.

Honestly, I loved and hated this class. I loved it because Patrick cares about his students and he is willing to help if you ask him for help. Don't be shy! I promise he will help you. I hated it because of the amount of work but trust me if you want an A, do the work, show up to class and turn in ANY extra credit. Talk to him if you need help too!

Hes very passionate about the subject... BUT his class is only for people taking ONLY ONE class. He assigns a lot of speeches, hell take off points for being SECONDS away from the time limit. If you plan on being a motivational speaker or someone whose job relies on public speaking, take him, otherwise, stay away!!!!

Patrick is a great instructor. The class is easy because I made an" A "fall 2018. But, you have to take the study guides serious,home work and speech. Extra credit for showing up in class called Barton Bucks. He has a way to motivate his students before the start of lecture. I made an easy A. I can make a speech in 2 minutes :) Thanks to Patrick.

I loved this class. But beware of group projects. Especially for online class. You have to depend on others you never see to complete their part of the work. Can be difficult for people who do a lot of the work all the time.

Out of all of the classes that I took this semester, I had the most fun in Patrick's class. A disclaimer: a lot of work was involved and this professor can be a heavy grader. On a positive note, he makes sure that he can do as much as he can to help us improve, because he has a very good heart. He's also pretty funny and intelligent guy.

Patrick is an amazing teacher who definitely cares about his students. The class is a great class and he will look for fun and even corky ways to keep the class fun. His online class was fun, but a little overbearing. If you work full time, have a family, etc. I would not take this class. Something is due M-F. Other than the workload, I would say he is one of the best Professors I've had at lone star. He gives plenty of extra credit assignments to help catch up. He is also very caring of his students.

I took this class online. At first this was an easy class, but after the midterm the class took a 180! He had us do SO much work and then throw a group proj. on top of all of the assignments he had us doing! A TEAM ASSIGNMENT FOR AN ONLINE CLASS! He grades easy on some things but other things he grades as if he was teaching an English teacher.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I am currently taking him and I want to cry because of how much work he gives, I can not keep up. I've never felt this overwhelmed in any other classes. I read the reviews and just ignored them. No listen to me when I say you'll regret taking this class.

Wow.. okay sorry Patrick but this was the hardest class Ive ever taken. He is soooo unclear about his instructions, he gives a unreasonable amount of homework, he tries to say he doesnt want this class to be overbearing but makes it overbearing and doesnt fix that problem. It's a love/hate thing. Patrick is a great guy who's really energetic and encouraging, but the problem is his attitude and actual teaching style contradict one another. He's really accessible and always grants extensions if asked. He's a good guy, but puts down an overbearing workload that will take over your life and overshadow your other classes.

Good at lectures and giving us perfect examples to help us understand. We will have to use our textbook but its free :) and quizzes r based on that(pretty easy). Dont miss class! He is a tough grader and sticks to his rules(theres a lot) but u can see him to see if ur work has any mistakes. There is a lot of discussion+gives extra credit, caring

If your not up for doing a lot of assignments dont take this class. The assignment is explained and offers help if needed. I did have to make it my life, even though he says not too because the pressure of due dates. Technically challenging to create speeches everyday two weeks if you work, or have kids.

He does a good job of making sure you are involved in the class, he posts a lot of announcements for due dates and lectures, and he will do mental health check-ins if you are not participating. My only complaint was that he had the major assignments all due towards the end of the semester, so it was hard to get a clear picture of your final grade.

He is quick to respond and open to listen to any troubles you may have. He is very understanding and WILL work with you. There is a lot of responding to classmates which can get highly stressful but overall, the class is pretty smooth as long as you do all your work. He also makes lectures very pleasant by having a great sense of humor.

I love Patrick!! He is progressive, loving, and non-judgmental. He encourages people to open up and truly cares about his students on another level. He stimulates new thinking and respects all perspectives. You will grow as a person! The work load is very time consuming, though. The amount is pretty tough, but he gives much + cred 4 participation

He's the type of guy to help you step out of your comfort zone when it comes to telling speeches & working w/ groups. He also gives out a lot of hw & is tough when it comes to grading,but is also very understanding and empathetic. He provides extra credit, allows absence (if they let him know about it beforehand), & is there for u if u need to talk

His online speech class has so many assignments, so buckle up. He is a great professor though and extremely understanding of any situation, so if you take him, don't be afraid to reach out. He is willing to help and work things out so that you pass. It is apparent that he cares about his students and wants all of his students to be successful.

BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!! I love his class. Never boring, you'll really learn something IF YOU PUT IN THE WORK. Does give a lot of homework, but is manageable for a working college student with three other classes. Tries too hard, his lectures /videos are like watching a bad actor in drama class. Its super cringy and almost uncomfortable. You will never get a decent grade on any written assignment; doesnt matter how great of a writer you are. Im sure hes a cool person outside of class, but as a professor not so much.

So many videos/assignment instructions that go on forever. He'll tell you not to make this class your life but it will be. You have to navigate his page like it's a game for assignments. Why? Just post normal. He has great intentions and is very animated but the class is just frustrating. Save yourself the stress and find another professor.

Patrick REALLY cares about his students. He is always offering help and support to students who need it. Those who have posted poor reviews may simply not be used to the work ethnic required for college. He gives VERY clear grading rubrics and PLENTY of extra credit. Show up and try and this course is an easy A.

this professor is very great in what he does and he is very great when it comes to obstacles in his student's lives. Especially during this whole time of where school and public gatherings had changed, he has done a lot to make sure a lot of us succeeded in his class.

Patrick *cares* about the health of all his students. He emphasizes how his class should not be your first priority. There is a lot of work, but it is super easy to get done. He is *SUPER PICKY* about subject matter, so it might be good to ask what he wants in an assignment. He has really fun lectures, and if you do your work its an easy A!

You REALLY have to check every single day so that you don't miss any of his tight deadlines. He's a cool guy, but he really tried to cram a whole semester's worth of work into 6 weeks. However, he really does want you to succeed and he will work with you. I'd rather take his fall or spring class, not summer.

If you want to get a good grade, it's important to communicate with Patrick. He understands that school isn't your number 1 priority. He even tells us that often. He gives good lectures that are straight to point. He doesn't bore you with all the boring details, no he wants you to get the information in your head. If you need help, he's available!

Patrick is one of the few professors left that actually care for the well being of his students. His ability to setup his class instructions is immaculate. Just finished his SPCH 1315 for Summer 2020 online. The class lasted about 5 weeks and moved pretty quickly. Patrick is amazing professor and thank god I did my RMP research before choosing this class. He cares for every single one of his students and makes sure you succeed. The only way to not make an A in this class is if you don't try.

In my experience Prof. Patrick Is a pretty good teacher. He cares a lot about his students and is willing to help get your grade up (if you need it). I didn't make such a good grade on my midterm, but he helped me and later I got an A. Over all he's a pretty good guy and not a bad teacher (if you can get through his jokes).

I just finished Prof. Bartons public speaking class and I learned more about public speaking than I could have ever imagined. He's an extremely caring professor and goes well out of his way to help his students succeed. If you simply do the work and put your best foot forward you'll pass. Great professor!!

He's a very picky man. Not clear about what he wants and sometimes the speeches used to make me cry from stress because I have social anxiety and I cant speak infront of people. Patrick gave too many assignments and it felt like it was never gonna end.

He is such a great guy. Truly does his best to help you in anyway possible. I mean as long as you do your work and your best, you will pass the class. Took his online class during the COVID fall semester in 2020. Awesome professor that gives very clear guidelines, great feedback, and is overall just a cool guy to talk to (he lets you call him Patrick after all). Be prepared if you take his class though as there is a ton of assignments and if you aren't logging in every day you will miss something

If you check in everyday you will be fine. Stay up to date and make sure to check announcements/ syllabus. Patrick is a very organized professor and is very thorough with instructions. He is also very flexible with office hours and is always willing to help!

He is a great professor because he helps you on everything and he even makes individual meetings with every student. He uploads weekly checklists which make the course easier. He makes each chapter interesting and does not leave a lot of assignments but participation is important.

Took this class online. DON'T. The amount of work was crazy. It was my first honors course too, and I was completely shocked. He also has weird due dates, like Tuesday & Friday at 10am. Don't tell yourself you are gonna wake up early and finish an assignment bc I know I didn't. He is honestly a great guy and professor.. just so. much. work.

This was a great class and Patrick was a great teacher. He really makes the class feel like it isn't actually a class. He also works really hard around your schedule and truly wants to see you succeed.

Patrick is a good professor. He truly cares about his students and as long as you have constant communication you should be fine. Work is on the heavier side but manageable, I would give extra thought if you are taking other classes and work a full time job, but it's not impossible. Towards the end you have a group project and a big paper.

He is a great professor. Even though he gave a lot of work assignments in some weeks but some other weeks were better. He really wanted to help and we should meet him in his office hours to discuss which areas we need to improve to have better grades or better skills. His lessons were valuable to me.

I liked this class, overall one of the better classes I have taken.

Patrick is a great professor and human overall. 10/10 He takes the time to create checklists for each week and as simple as that you just go through the list, not hard AT ALL. Some weeks were more packed than others unfortunately. I disliked how assignments were due at 10am and sometimes on a Monday. But overall, easy to talk too and super helpful!

Patrick is a very caring man, with his heart in the right place who very much cares for the students who take his class. The problem being he claims one of his major philosophies to be not letting his class be the most important thing in your life, which in a few ways it will become due to the sheer amount of work he will give you.

Taking this Speech was probably one of the worst decisions I have ever done to myself. You have all these participation points, extra credit opportunities, but if you do not do the last and final speech you're going to get a D in the class. SO all the other hard work you've put into the class is basically for nothing. Would not recommend.

Professor Patrick is a very knowledgeable, understanding, kind, funny and motivating professor. I would take another class taught by him if it were possible.

First, he knows his material and you will learn how to give great speeches. However, his grading is awful. His grading criteria is extremely difficult to understand. He is so uptight about EVERY single thing. He has a myriad of list that are so redundant and difficult to understand. He makes a simple speech class, so complex.

Prof. Patrick was extremely detailed in what he required of you, but he was also very caring, flexible, and understanding if you took the time to reach out to him. He is passionate about what he is teaching, and I looked forward to his weekly lecture videos. Keep up with his weekly checklist, and pay attention and you will do fine!

I enjoyed this class. Patrick has a very unique approach to teaching. He will help you if you struggle with understanding and he will lend out a hand to you repeatedly through-out the semester if you should need it. He gives you a detailed module of what he expects from you weekly, as well as entertaining lecture clips, not excessively long.

I took his speech class for Honors college and let me tell you- he is a PICK ME! He says mental health matters but then tries to defend himself and his actions for his grading style and how many assignments there were. He said the R-slur so many times during a "you should not say this" lecture it was very contradicting. Do not recommend.

Took his class online and there was SO MUCH WORK!!! There was something due almost everyday. There were so many assignments, it was really difficult to keep up with everything. Yes, he gave a checklist, which does helps, but the amount of work he gives was exhausting. He is a super tough grader and he his very picky.

I wanted to love this class so much however, I was burnt out a little over half the semester in. The grading system is beyond confusing, there was an overwhelming amount of work every week. In a 3hr credit course you shouldn't have up to 17 hours worth of work IN A WEEK. I love school but this class was one I would not put myself through again.

This class is a very fun filled class and for the most part is easy. The only slight inconvenience is that the website used to turn work in is very complicated and easy to get lost in. Other than that Patrick is an amazing teacher, if you take his class you're in great hands!

Patrick is caring and you can tell he is really devoted to this job. However, this class was way too much work. Too many different types of assignments and you'll have something due almost every day. Deadlines are confusing and group project wasn't helpful. The work itself isn't difficult, it's just too much- Got burnt out by mid-semester.

Went into the class not really knowing what to expect, but Patrick said it was a class we wouldn't need to stress over. I indeed did end up stressing over this class. He explains directions, we follow, and we end up with just a passing grade. Patrick is extra.

If you're not prepared to do a lot of work do not take this class. The workload is more than all my other classes in all my semesters combined. There doesn't feel like any moments to breathe. Patrick tries to be there and be caring but you can't help but feel frustrated at the excessive workload constantly dumped on you.

Patrick Barton is a very energetic and caring professor who wants his students to succeed, not just in his class but in life in general. There were a lot of assignments in his class, but I was able to keep up with them. Just make sure that you take SPCHH1315 alongside another honors class, otherwise it will be much more difficult.

Great class in all, He does give a lot of homework, also towards the end of the semester, it does get a little stressful with the back-to-back hard assignments. However, Patrick is always willing to help! He gives clear directions and feedback.

Honestly one of the best teachers/professors I ever had. Truly cares for his students and gives them the best opportunities to pass. I think students feel there is a lot of work in the class because they go in thinking it is a blow off class. It is not, you need to communicate as the class is a communication class.

For almost two years that I have taken my classes, I had never encounter such an encouraging and caring professor. When it comes to public speaking he really does warm up to get you pumped up and lower the anxiety. Mental health videos helped. He is organized and uses checklist for us to track the weekly work and assignments which was so helpful.

I took this class in summer II very interesting class. Amazing lecture, he is open and likes to work with his students whenever they have a problem. He does not scold you like others do, reasonable, considered but you have to work for your grade. He also likes giving extra credit. I will definitely take his class again and recommend him to anyone.

He really wants you to have a great learning experience and is always wanting to improve as a professor. He takes feedback respectfully and actually listens, and then he shows it with his actions!

Hes very caring and places your mental health above EVERYTHING. He makes great lecture videos along with study guides that covers each quiz. Most of the work involves writing your life experiences and opinions. Flexible with assignment and easy to get in touch with. If you like sarcasm, this is your professor!!

He's always looking to improve his teaching methods and loves student feedback. Textbook is free and only a few reading quizzes that are open note. The textbook is used but he provides it through links, but overall he's is a great teacher and is really caring! He definitely makes an effort as a teacher and allows PLENTY of extra credit/ bonus points throughout the semester so if you feel like you're struggling you can help yourself. Great teacher overall.

Patrick was a very approachable professor. He has a lot of ideas and is always looking for ways to improve the academic lives of students. The content is fed in units rather than one checklist per week and the grading is point based not percentage, which I did not like. There are tons of bonus points though and not every assignment is required.

I took this class online thinking, I would be doing this without much help. However, this class is very organized and there are assignments that are required and some that are just for bonus. He, gives workshop to help you with creating your outline and is even able to work with you during office hours. This is an easy A with all resources provided

Because of the pandemic, he made it very easy to communicate with him via email, WebEx meetings, and so on. He will do his best to help you as much as possible. He is very understanding and flexible. There is alot of room for improvement (as a student) because he lets you do alot of bonus work. Hes open to meetings, and he does care about you, your grade, and how you see him as a teacher. While my overall grade is not where I would want it to be, I attribute it to my own mistakes and choices rather than him as a professor. If I had to take the class again, I would gladly choose him.

He was a good professor overall and had good intentions and tried to show that he cared. But to me he came off as condescending sometimes.. . What he says seems nice but if you didnt agree with him he would get preachy and condescending. Dont think hes a bad person or prof but he was too intense and it made me not want to reach out more..

Professor Patrick was probably one of my favorite professors. He encouraged his students to always take care of themselves because mental health is important. Patrick is a very flexible professor, always available to meet outside of his office hours. He offers so many extra credit opportunities its almost hard to fail.

Patrick likes to talk about mental health being important but it came off as fake. His ideas for class are great but poorly executed. Most assignments are "optional" but he still has so many things you need to keep track of. He takes points off/fails you if you don't do all the specific things he asks for each assignment. Would not take again.

This is probably the best professor I have ever taken in my entire college career. He wants to see you do great, so he goes the extra mile for that to happen. His homework is the easiest. Also, if you're going to pass, make sure you do the work.

I took this class completely online. He required an average amount of work weekly that I found easy to complete it was never overwhelming. Was very understanding and respectful of his students.

I found this class to be enlightening and frankly easy. Assignments done were some Discussion posts (most of them optional, minimum requirement of 2-4 to answer), only about 3 essays or so, quizzes about 30 mins long but with only 6 or so questions and LOTS of bonus points to be given. I highly recommend this class. I would take it again for sure.

Great class for anyone interested in learning how to construct and present effective speeches. The professor teaches each topic clearly and has regular office hours if you have any questions about anything. The class schedule is very organized and rubrics are given for each assignment so that you know exactly what you will be graded on.

The hw is very easy and actually helps to let you know what the heck ur doing in this class. It is a very easy class as long as you do the speeches and put in visible effort you will pass! He looks out for every student. Although the grading criteria may be complicated sometimes because there is a lot of criteria, it is the fairest grading I've ever seen. His hybrid class was mainly online but speeches were in person and as scary as it seems I improved so much when I used to be so nervous to present.

Patrick is a great professor overall he truly does care about his students. Assignments were not very hard at all as long as you get them done you will be good. We did have to write 2 essays that were a pain but he does help you a ton on those. There's lots of bonus points that make up for points you lost! In person discussions were simple and fun!

An A can be easily attainable. While taking this course, Assignments/ discussions were due by either thursday or sunday. If you procrastinate, try to avoid this for the projects! Projects are time consuming, but easy. Many bonus point assignments available. I would take this class again with him. I received a C in the course on my own fault!

If you want to get an A you do not have to be a perfect public speaker. That is the sign of a well-built public speaking class. Patrick is personable and has thoroughly thought out the structure of his D2L with lots of videos to guide you. You will walk away knowing so much and feel genuine appreciation for speech. Great class, a great teacher.

Solid professor and a good person.

Professor Barton is amazing when it comes to how much effort he puts into making his course not only doable but enjoyable. There is work to be done in this class, but none of the work is super intimidating. If you follow the instructions you will be totally fine without having to spend a crazy amount of time on the work.

Professor Barton will definitely turn you into a better public speaker if you put in the work. There are a LOT of required weekly discussion assignments between students which can get tedious and is really time-consuming. He is super concerned about self-care. Grading is tough, but it is explained in advance and in detail.

I cannot express how much I recommend this professor. The study guide videos are so much fun to watch because of the funny jokes he throws in there. It is great to laugh and learn at the same time. Patrick is a very open and understanding professor as long as you communicate with him. He's really acknowledgeable on the subjects he teaches and offers great resources to make sure that students understand class material. He always responds to emails, however I recommend seeing him during his office hours--he gives really thourough feedback then.
