Patrick is an exceptional professor who really cares for his students and their well-being. I highly recommend him if you need to take a speech class. There is a lot of assignments but they are all VERY EASY, and extra credit is ABUNDANT. The speeches themselves can be scary to do, however He will help you better conquer your fears.Highly recommend
Patrick truly cares and it really helps through the semester. He also gives SO MANY extra credit opportunities and truly wants you to succeed. He is fun and very easy to get into contact with if there were questions and he is the BEST. TAKE HIM
Patrick was the most impactful professor I've ever had. He's super fair, really cares about every student's success and will go out of his way for it. His lectures are interactive & ADHD proof (broken down into bite sized pieces, had my attention w/ hilarious references). HIGHLY! recommend submitting rough outlines even though they're not required.
Wow, the best professor I've met. He wants us to succeed, but not just in school. Had a gr8 semester with him and learned so many techniques about public speaking. He's flexible with grading if you come talk with him, and with absences as long as you don't take advantage. A joy every morning.
I felt very overwhelmed taking his class. I spent more time reading instructions than the textbook. There were 4 study guides to be done in the first week of class, and a major project due at the end of the same week. Great professor with passion & care for his students but too much for me, especially if you have to balance working 30-40 hours/week
Patrick Is great, He takes his time and provides short videos to help with study guides. The online short semester was busy but manageable. Patrick offers assistance and he always respond when you reach out to him. He give plenty of bonus credit opportunities throughout the course. I really enjoyed his class.
A great professor! super helpful! I was working two jobs and taking this summer class and he worked with me more than anyone else would. Super understanding just communicate with the professor.
I enjoyed professor Patrick's class! Plan to put in time & work for this class. There're 12 study guides (small lecture videos or book) + other assignments. Participation is key. Our feedback is VERY important to him. He makes changes to his teaching from the feedback he receives. He's very accommodating and understating. Just shoot him an email.
Excellent and caring professor. I felt like he took a genuine interest in his students. I took an accelerated course, so there was quite a bit of work to do in a shorter time frame, but I was able to organize it thanks to the checklists and never felt overwhelmed. Lots of opportunities for bonus points were also provided.
Patrick really cares about his students. Even though his assignment do take time, he gives many opportunities to meet with him. He is also very understanding you just have to communicate with him. He made his lectures very interesting and would throw some jokes in between. I really recommend this professor; he made speech ten times better!
Patrick is AMAZING, I highly recommend his class.
Would take this professor again, the class was easy to understand and pass, and I also learned a lot. Professor Patrick is helpful and accessible and wants all of his students to do well. Be prepared to write a lot, many essays and written responses.
Patrick is an excellent teacher, the class was online and he gives a checklist each week which makes it easier to complete the activities on the expected dates. I don't consider the class to be difficult as such, but perhaps time consuming, on average 5-6 hours a week is required.
I wish I could select more tags to use to describe Patrick's class. This is my second class I've taken, and it was just as good as the first. Professor P is very accommodating and understanding. He gives clear instructions and grading criteria, so you know exactly what needs to be done and when. He treats everyone like family. Best professor ever.
I will definitely recommend this professor, He is amazing and does a wonderful job. He cares for all the students and follows them to the end of the road holding their hand to get a good grade.
Patrick thought me a lot when coming into this class. He took over our class after our old professor left due to work issues she had, so she left us with Patrick. Learned a lot about speeches and how they work all thanks to him and he is also very understanding of students emotions and schedules. Amazing teacher and teaching. 10/10
He's not a bad teacher, he truly cares about his students, and he gives a lot of feedback and help. His teaching style was not the best for me because I need stricter deadlines and more help in class rather than doing a lot of the work at home. He had plenty of fun activities for us to do to help show us about communication.
Loved this class it was so easy and a great professor he emails back fast and is always helpful.
I do not recommend taking this class if you are taking a lot of classes or working a lot. There is an excessive amount of assignments required throughout this course that becomes overwhelming and draining. Zoom calls are also required which is time consuming. The professor is very caring but I would never take this class again.
Patrick seems to truly care about his students and puts a great focus on practicing self care and choice management. His online class is by far the most comprehensive and well designed one I have ever participated in. His lectures are lighthearted and funny while maintaining a high degree of detail and listener engagement. Amazing professor 10/10.
Professor Patrick is very caring and talks a lot about self-care at the end of his lectures. His lectures are amazing, he also gives great feedback on your speeches and your outlines for you to improve more in his class. Overall I recommend taking this class you won't regret it!
Professor Patrick is a super caring person. He makes sure that the students always remember that YOU matter! He gives great feedback and is always open to help in any way. From day 1 he ensures that the classroom environment will be comfortable for all. I would definitely recommend this class!
He shows lot of engaging in the class and he loves his speech class.
He is an amazing professor who cares about how you're doing outside of class. Lots of chances for extra credit, overall a great teacher and would highly recommend. He's a funny quirky teacher as well who has many hobbies like running.
Very understanding and helpful professor 10/10
He wants the best out of his students and offers them many opportunities to succeed. He is flexible in working with students to get assignments in and offers extensions when life throws a curve ball. Also, there is an automatic 48-hour extension when not meeting a deadline on most assignments. He wants his students to learn the bottom line.

Patrick is a very caring professor that really cares for his students. It was a bit more work than I expected for a public speech class but he offers a lot of extra credit for you to get the grade that you want. He also values student feedback and asks how he can do better, over all he is an amazing teacher that is very passionate about his work.
Great teacher, a bit harsh at times, but we are college students.
Patrick is an awesome professor who truly cares about his student's success. He responds quickly to emails and offers several bonus opportunities to improve your grade. I will gladly take one of his classes again.
One of the best professors I ever had. He uses a point system for grading, which makes it easy to get the grade you're aiming for. He was always quick to respond to emails (usually within a day). He also really cares about students' well-being and talked about the importance of self-care throughout the course. Highly recommend!
He was really great! Very helpful lecture videos and study guides for each chapter of the textbook. All of the assignments are pretty straightforward and easy to find. He does require 1-3 workshops throughout the semester. He structures the class in a very organized way and is very easy to communicate with. Would definitely recommend him.
I am sad that I will not be able to take his class again :( Patrick is the best. He is very funny and can teach very well. He emphasizes the importance of self-care. As long as you do the work and put in effort, you will pass the class. He gives lots of extra credit. Patrick makes it easy and fun to be in a speech class!!
His online course still felt interactive. He understands what it's like being a students, he cares about what you have going on. The mandatory zooms were actually fun, and felt just like being in class. His grading system is unusual but rewards those who try, and helps those who don't.
Lovely guy, does give lots of work. He uses a checklist method where you can't see other assignments until you finish previous ones. Definitely tech savvy, slightly hard to get used to the class structure (due dates are all set slightly apart within the week). Very lenient and allows extensions, prioritizes self care :)
He is a great professor who actually cares about his students! He is pretty fair with due dates and what not, also fair grading.
Took a 6 week course thinking this class would be on easy. He used his own grading criteria, not a percentage based one. He would decide if the assignment met his expectations or not and if it did not you would fail the whole thing regardless of how much work you invested. Has bonus assignments but they don't contribute to total grade. Tough grader
Patrick was a good first impression to Lone Star College for me! He is passionate about what he does. His grading system is more than fair. He cares about your well-being outside of the classroom and understands people have jobs, family, etc. He works with you in the time of need. Would definitely take his class again.
funny guy and great guy but talks too much and the workload is absolute insane. trust me you do not want this class. tooo much work. the amount of work he gives out and the amount of time he blows our email up feels like harassment. truly diabolical
Patrick's 2 passionate 4 his job, but UNBALANCED. Better read 1-2 star reviews B 4 enroll, or U will B regretted. Too mch class wrk. UNNECESSARY attention 4 students' self-care as class lessons. Class started 24, ended @15 students. Overloaded, stressed, and exhausted. MANDATORY 2 meet w/him 3 times 4 an "A." Good Luck. Let alone working students.
I would only reccomend this professor if youre a communications major. Otherwise, this was my most DEMANDING class and I took quite difficult courses this semester. Homework everyday and youre absent if you don't do it. Attendance matters or you have a makeup assignment. Grading system based on completion but it's not worth it trust me.
This professor was super organized, he does weekly checklist which helps let us know what is due and when. The assignments can vary from hard to easy but as long as you do the work and put effort you'll pass! He cares about his students and wants to make sure you participate and pass. Definitely recommend.
Professor Barton is an exceptional teacher, although his grading methods are a bit bizarre, it's easy once you get acclimated. He's a very lenient professor, and heavily implores that you prioritize yourself, but of course, keep the class in mind. 100/10, I would take this class again
He is a nice and passionate teacher. He was able to give clear simple instructions to complete. He really does care about his students. You don't have to buy a textbook for this class; he will provide one for you. Also, I have heard that the new grading checklist will come from the total number of credits to complete to receive a grade.
Patrick is an amazing professor that is fullyequipped and explains concepts clearly. He cares about students grades and their mental health. The class didn't feel like an overload at all and for major projects, he gave adequate instruction and time for us to finish. (Try not to procrastinate though)
This was probably the worst online class I've ever taken. Be careful, he has such an odd grading system. If your work is "up to his standards" then you will get an A, if not, well good luck. He is so lecture and workshop heavy. Your grade is very relied on attending online lectures, if you don't he won't give you an A. I would never take again!!!
He said in our first class was this is a laidback class. LIES. He has his own way of grading and it has to be up to his standards to pass if it is not up to his liking well you fail. Try not to fall behind or miss class because that means extra work on top of all the huge amount or work already given. If you work and go to school good luck
Getting a 2 bc he let's you do redos and theres makeup/extensions. Made up his own essay style/grading system and uses AI for everything. Several assignments that have nothing to do with the course. Very high grading standard. Lots of virtural meetings. Liked the course content but he ruined the class for me. I have a 3.9gpa and almost got a C -_-
He was lienent on a lot of things but his grading style is odd. You can go from getting an A to a C very fast bc his "acceptable or not acceptable" grading style. Took this as an elective and very much regretted it. Read the rubric extensively and only write exactly how he wants or he will fail you. He's obsessed with AI
there are too many assignments and if you do not get to his expectations with what he wants you will do bad the in class, his way of grading is the worst, don't take him!
