He's new on the job(as of 2005). He assigns a bit to much useless work, but he's occasionally funny.
He is too new to teach his subject. He drifts off topic a lot. Gives lots of homework and then does not use it on tests.
I can't say what should be here. It will get edited out!
Homework takes a long time, doesn't count for many points, and never shows up on tests. What will be on the test is anybody's guess; he picks out obscure facts from the book. Drifts off the subject. Doesn't lead you through the material very well.
I really enjoyed Mr. Brennans class. He teaches by lecture, not from the text which seems to bother some students, but to me this shows he is an able and knowledgable professor. If you attend class and take good notes, you'll make an A, no problem.
Where do I start, I have had so many problems with him, not helpful and assigns work that has nothing to do with the chapters and info in the book.
Give me a break! Can this guy really be a teacher? What does it take to become a professor nowadays? I will need to retake this class to know this subject. He will give out tons of homework that has nothing to do with the tests!
If I say what happened to me in this class, you will delete it! Just take a different class.
Brennan's creepy. Jumps into your personal space. Tons of work but nothing that will be on the test.
A truly enthusiastic professor. He forces you to interact with history; to love what many hate. His assignments are enlightening, and his lectures are enticing. All you have to do is listen to what he says and you'll get an A. There is never any material on a test that he has not gone over in class. He can make you change your view on history.

I did not enjoy his style.
All of you who bash Dr. Brennan just didnt take the time needed to pass the class. He is an awesome speaker and knows his material very well. I started this class knowing nothing about western civ and i left with a lot of newly gained knowledge. He is an awesome professor, period.
I would not judge this school by his teaching style or the 5 - 6 others like him @ GCCC. Most of the Professors are above par, but this one is questionable in his ability to organize his study sheets for tests..
This professor is does a great job of teaching. His courses are not based on a powerpoint presentation or anything else dull and insipid. His BA in theatre makes the class entertaining. Id def recommend this class to anyone, but equally make sure you have time to attend every lecture because it's important at test time.
It's like having Billy Crystal as my professor. I always enjoy his class because I've never had an instructor who makes me want to learn a subject as much as he does and still is able to keep my attention because of the humor he incorporates into his lectures! Listen and pay attention and you'll be fully prepared for his tests. Two thumbs way up!
Dr. Brennan is great! You don't have to buy the book and he makes learning history interesting! He is so excited about this subject, so all you have to do is show up to class and listen!
rambles on and on in class. gets off topic easily. a little boring but funny at times.
Not only does he make the material fun, He doesn't let students walk all over him, like some professors do. You'll earn your grade in here.
Kept my attention, one of the few classes I didn't nod of during. Humorous at times but don't piss him off. If he is taken off subject won't get back on for a good 5 minutes but it doesn't matter, still learning
One of the best professors I've ever had. If you find his lectures boring or uninteresting, then I pit you. Having since left GCCC and moved on to Uni, I can't help but snicker at the often dull, power point driven lectures my current, multiple Ph. D carrying professors give.
You have to either not care or not show up to fail his class, he gives all of the material on the tests in his notes.
Professor was very nice & helpful. Enjoyed the class, never boring.
Great Teacher. Weill kinda go over points to many times, but he is very understanding. Tests are preety easy.
Great guy, very funny and has an obvious love for history. Just be on time, listen, take notes, participate and you should do well.
he is horrid all he does is stand there and read the notes that he put on the board. and oh my god don't forget your blue book cause he will not let you go get it nor will you be allowed to use paper. he was the most boring Prof. I have ever had and I am a history major. I now attend UWF. If you can avoid this man run for your life.
While a very enthusiastic teacher and always ready to lecture on a subject he knows all to well, his teaching style is questionable. He rambles most of the time and it is quite hard to keep up with his pace on notes. His tests aren't too hard but not too easy. He is VERY much an egotistical, arrogant man and thinks he is a "History God".
He's definetly interesting to learn from, he's passionate about the subject and very knowledgeable. However, he rambles quite a bit and the lectures aren't very clear as of what's expected. Tests are pretty difficult and he expects a lot from the essays you write, if you do everything you need to, you will learn, but it'll be tough.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. While it can be challenging, it is not hard if you apply yourself
GREAT TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!
Intelligent and such a cutie. Just pay attention and participate, it's that simple.
Super great teacher, very nice and has a tremendous passion for the subject. It's obvious he cares if you are interested and tries to keep things light and funny.
Very informative class. Professor very knowledgable of material. If you are looking for an easy A this is not your class. If you want to learn and enjoy history, take him. Classes are pretty enjoyable.
walked away from class with a new passion for history, didn't think anyone could do that! If you come to class prepared and pay attention, you will learn. If you receive an A in this class you have earned it. Dr. Brennan has control of the class, refreshing, some other professors let the class wander in circles. I would gladley take another class.
Doesn't use the textbook at all, just lectures. One week before exam, gave us a study guide that essentially contained the answers to the multiple choice part of the test; also had the essay questions (four, of which two appeared on the test, of which you had to pick one). If you actually pay attention in class, and review your notes once or twice,
He was a really great teacher. His test were hard but he loves the stuff hes teaching and you can tell. I learned alot
the best history teacher i've ever had
The worst experience of my life. If you like arrogant crappy instructors, take this man. Do not waste your money or time on this man. I am amazed to read postive comments about him on here, everybody in my class cannot stand him.
Probably the best class ive ever taken at GCCC. All you have to do is pay attention. I never even brought a notebook or pen to class and i ended up with an A. Hes a funny, relatively easy going professor. Id highly reccomend any of his classes.
One of the best history classes I have ever taken! All I do is listen to all of his great stories and then I do the study guides he gives you and I make A's on the tests! He is really nice and seriously knows his history.
Dr. Brennan is a great professor. This will not be an easy A. He has an amazing knowledge of history and is eager and passionate about teaching.
Great proffesor! One of the best at Gulf Coast.
He's amazing at what he does. He's also very down to earth and funny. He lectures along with powerpoints. Taking notes helps reinforce information later on because there are a lot of subjects to study on each test, which are all multiple choice. He does offer all study guides way in advance. Pay attention and get a good grade!
good professor. tests are not easy. there is a lot of information on them. enthusiastic but a bit cocky.
Dr.Brennan is the man. This isn't a normal history class where your more focused on staying awake then what the professor is saying. He makes you laugh and makes you want to hear what he has to say next. Hands down cool dude.
He talks so fast that it was hard for me to keep up with him.
Had to study a lotttt for an A. Be prepared to do a lot of research and work outside of class. Don't even attempt to look at your cell phone while in class you will get yelled at. Write down as much as possible in class and use the internet to find extra information. I didn't even buy the book and passed with an A.
Dr. Brennan was great! He made history fun and I actually learned a lot. NOT what you think of when you think history teacher. He was funny and a little cocky. You def. had to study for the quizzes but the quizzes were all online but you had to know your stuff to pass the final. Loved his class!!
LOVED his class...(when I actually went) Heard he kept attendance for some classes but not ours. Tests were online except for the final. Reused a lot of the same questions on the tests which really helped learn the material. Really funny guy.
Prof. Brennan was a great teacher. He used modern examples to explain senarios from the old civilizations. His lectures weren't boring at all but sometimes went off subject. Study the powerpoints. Do all the online assesments and you should do well. Dont use your cell phones in class (duh) he doesnt like that at all. Great guy and great teacher.
Great teacher! Laughs with you, and doesn't make you feel like you need a helmet if you don't know something. Dislikes cell-phones in class, but its for a good reason. <3
After I took on of his classes at Gulf Coast I sorta stalked him. I took every class of his I possibly could. Tip: take the information he gives you and dig deeper - he appreciates the effort. Best history teacher ever, if a little on the arrogant side.
His class was easy and mostly online.. no tests in class besides midterm and final. Attendance isn't really important unless you are interested in the material. I got an A and felt like I didn't do anything. As for Mr. Brennon, he comes off as cocky and arrogant.
Pretty good professor. He seems to go off topic sometimes but he is pretty funny when it comes to his lectures. you can kindof relate to what he is talking about. Really nice and awesome guy.
Pretty good professor. He seems to go off topic sometimes but he is pretty funny when it comes to his lectures. you can kindof relate to what he is talking about. Really nice and awesome guy.
I absolutely loved Brennan and his class! It was so interesting and he was so funny! He knows so much about everything in history. Sometimes he gets a little off topic but its worth it. You learn a lot. He makes history fun! The tests are easy if you do the assessments to study. Great class, great teacher!
Great teacher! Really knows what hes talking about when it come to history. All the tests & quizzes are online! Extremely easy to make an A
Nice and hilarious at times, but he tends to get off subject often. Attendance was lenient, about halfway through the semester I got bored of his lectures. No tests, but weekly online quizzes (you can take them multiple times before the official quiz) and weekly paragraphs that require the book. I recommend this course.
Easy class. I stopped showing up pretty early on and aced most of the quizzes and tests. You'd literally have to try to fail this class. However, you have to study on your own. He generally teaches material AFTER you test on it, which is kinda strange.
I had the opportunity to take Dr. Brennan for numerous history classes at the FSU-Panama City campus. While he does get WAY of subject, and off task, he always kept you interested. Tests are filled with book material, and classes are filled with interesting rhetoric.
Dr. Brennan is a great instructor. He gives great notes and power point presentations on angel. I found his class very interesting. He is one of the best professors at GCCC.
Great professor, fun and easy going! Goes in depth of each subject or event but gets OFF track a lot so it makes it a little confusing at times. Everyone in class seams to enjoy his fun lectures. Doesn't cover some things from a book so you HAVE to study for the tests! Overall, I'm happy with him so far.
Best Professor EVER!!! Can't wait to take his next class. Loves what he teaches, funny, helpful, understanding, and super hot and Irish :) TAKE THIS CLASS!!! BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!
WOW!Finally my brain was being picked in this dull land called Panama City.I researched this site & personaly talked with 2 past students. It's my money & time it so it better be good.Dr.Brennan gives GREAT interactive lectures that make you think.Gives relavant examples. It is not a cakewalk class BUT a willing student can get a good/great grade. AF
He is a good teacher whom has done many positive things on and off campus;however, students who do not pay attention, or do not care about the subject being taught should not take his class or you will fail.
Really enjoyed the class. Good fun, and likes to joke around a lot. He still gives the information out, and answer your Short answers Questions. He loves the responses.
He keeps you interested, he's very informative, and he's definitely not bad to look at ;)
Dr. Brennan is an excellent teacher for a student who actually pays attentions and studies, which all should. Completely changed my outlook on my college experience. went from making a 60's to 100's due to his inspiration. Excellent dude in and out of class.
Good professor, loves the subject.. You must be organized to take this class, but hey, this is college. Test questions are pretty much word-for-word from the book. If you study & accept that this is college & work hard, you'll do fine!!
Such a good teacher, best one i have ever had. Heloves what he does and that comes off very clear. if you ask for help you shall recieve, but if you dont make an A on all his exams theres something wrong with you because he makes it that easy.I recommend him to all!
He's pretty funny and tries to keep you entertained by telling stories that relate to the subject. The whole course is strictly lecture. So if you're a visual learner like me you should make sure to study a lot and take notes. The info on the study guides are hardly on the test so going to class is an absolute must.
I really enjoyed him as a teacher. I never enjoyed history, but he made it fun. Quizes are hard, but he makes it up by making the midterm and final easy.
Mr. Brennan is an awesome teacher. He makes History so much fun to learn about. I hate history and was not excited about this class at all, but Mr. Brennan made it fun and exciting. Take this class if you want to enjoy history.
Funny teacher, boring class, but it's not his fault it's boring..History just is, to me anyways. His smart butt jokes he throws in here and there may liven it up a little. I'd say he was a pretty good teacher though.
His clas is awesome. He goes by the book. He is very funny. He''s cute,so it's not that hard to pay attention. He likes to change his voice during class to his regular voice to southern accent to a New Yorker accent. He will help you out if you ask him. He makes history seem fun. He gets mad if you text in his class or fall asleep , so don't do it.
Funny and informative
I really like Brennan. He wasn't too hard & he wasn't too easy either. I actually liked his lectures. He id very funny and sometimes goes off topic, but he always ends up connecting it. His quizzes are pretty much his lectures and powerpoints and from the book. I never studied and did okay on them. His midterm and final are super easy though.
I personally found this class to be one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. History is my worst subject, and yet, I didn't touch the book in his class. All you really need to do is listen to his lectures and look over his power points, and you are basically guaranteed a passing grade.
Best class I've ever taken. I loved this class with Dr. B so much that I'm taking his other classes now. He has a very animated attitude when giving lectures and he always keeps things interesting with wry, unexpected, wit. You have to take notes every class but there are no quizzes, just the tests. He wants you to do well, but you have to try.
Lectures were never dull and usually pretty funny, he wants everyone to pass and is available if you need help. I had the wrong book until midterms but even with the correct book I only opened it once. He covers everything you need to know in class. Pay attention, take notes and participate and you'll be gravy.
READ THE CHAPTERS! You can't pass any class without reading the chapters, and it'll make all his lectures make sense. He makes history really fun and interesting and he wants everyone to pass. Pay attention to his lectures (not hard to do). I almost wanted to change my major so I could take more of his classes. One of the best I've had at GCSC.
Brennan is kind of arrogant and some of the stuff he says is pretty offensive, but he's just trying to break the ice in the room and crack a smile. He's pretty helpful if you need it- if he's in a good mood. He tends to ramble quite a bit. His tests"quizzes" are very inconsistent, and beware as he may count a homework assignment as a grade.
I dislike history but I actually really enjoyed this course! Dr Brennan's great! I have with drawn from history twice to prevent from failing, but not with Brennan. He makes the course easier to understand & has a study guide for every single test so theres no way you can't pass. He ALWAYS keeps lecture interesting & fun. Deff take this course!!
Dr. Brennan is super funny. His classes are alot of fun, but fun does not equal good! His study guides are long and not very clear as to what will be on the quiz. If you are not a history buff, you better pay close attention to his lectures and maybe become a mind reader. he expects you to know exactly what he is looking for.
He blew the first half of the semester "covering" a unit. He gave us a study guide one week before the test: It was seven pages of things we hadn't covered, with notes like "You should do some research on Wikipedia". Spent the rest of the semester trying to cram tests in so that he would have enough grades. Exams are your only grades.
3 quizzes, two tests. Study guides were long and not all the material from the study guide was on the test or quiz. Some of the material he puts on the study guide isn't in the book, you have to find it online. He made us purchase MindTap, said we would have assignments on it. Paid over $80 and we never used it (that's on top of the textbook).
I made a A in this class. My major is history and I found Brennan to be interesting so I didn't mind the long lectures. He used my class as a experimental group though and we never really knew what our assignments were or if we had to do them online and what not. His study guides can be tedious though and long, you must attend class for notes.
Pretty funny guy. Definitely need the book to pass.
Engaging lectures! Not so much off topic as a bit wandering; it's all connected, (lots of overlap). Attend class for notes and pay attention to what he says. Tests are not hard but you have to work for your grade! I'm an English major with minimal interest in history and I managed to make an A+. That is how interesting he made the material.
Professor Brennan was a great speaker and presenter. It was clear that passion is in his profession. He gave good feedback, answered all questions, presented material appropriately and conducive to note taking. I feel he is an excellent story teller and found it easy to listen to lecture. I would take a class by him again for sure.
He's very funny and can be quite interesting in his lectures. There was a lot of reading for me to just assure that I understood the material that he was talking about and what would be on the test. He definitely has a major passion for what he teaches. Be sure to come to class and really pay attention to what he is saying.
Extremely unorganized. EXTREMELY. Confusing and unclear for the assignments (I took a six week course). The midterm had the same question worded differently three times. Understanding and decent, but very confusing and difficult. Office hours are from 2-4, which gives a 2 hour window to talk to him.
There's no denying that Brennan is passionate about History. He is engaging, if you're willing to give him a chance. He adopted the Point System grading scale, so it is in your best interest to do the additional projects. If you read the chapter and summarize the key points on the study guides, you'll do well enough on the tests and final.
Dr. Brennan is super energetic and even charismatic. However, is is hard to get help from him, and he also has some very weird beliefs. Seemingly wants to debunk most religion and even the realism of love. He is, okay if you like energetic teaching that somtimes gets distracted from the actual book.
I've always loved history, but Brennan really made it come to life for me. He may occasionally be the absentminded professor type (occasionally his lectures spiderweb a bit), but he's informative, passionate about what he teaches, funny, engaging, and teaches his students valuable critical-thinking skills.
I took professor Brennan for Western Civ. 1 and 2, he is a wonderful teacher. Very caring for his students and willing to listen. Just be sure to do the work and you will pass, do not under stand his low rating.
Awful.
A really nice guy, but has no organization. If you're shy and don't like to be called on I suggest you don't take him. No one in class would know when things were due because he himself didn't know. The mid-term and final were both fill in the blank no multiple choice. Don't recommend unless you really have a passion for Western Civilization
He is a very funny guy; however, he never tells his students when the assignments are due, you have to go figure it out yourself every time. No notes in class, you have to listen to him and remember everything, because the things he talks about are on tests. Quizzes online have nothing to do with the things he talks about in class.
Dr. Brennan is the best lecturer I've ever had. He's engaging, funny, and knows his subject thoroughly. The lecture doesn't really follow the book, and he goes on crazy tangents, but they do relate to the lecture. If you can put a cohesive thought into a short essay, you're good. His quizzes are online and follow the practice quizzes.
Did not learn anything. If I did not take an AP Euro class in high school I would not have passed.
I took this course online so I don't know if it is different in person. Discussion were confusing to understand, especially if it dealt with reading a map. The final was fill in the blank and dealt more with the videos watched than with the actual book. No study guide. Prepare to read and take as many notes as possible.
Prof. Brennan is a cool guy but he rants on about pointless topics, shows up late but lectures after the class is suppose to be over (every time), and his final was nothing like the study guide lines he gave.. I would suggest another teacher if you can forsure
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I was on academic probation and really needed to pass this class. I got an "F!" His assignments are unclear and confusing. He gives you videos to watch lasting an hour or so which are on the final. His final is nothing like the study guide, is fill in the blank and spelling counts. Nothing made sense in this class. Don't do it!
He rambles too much, gets off topic, talks about something for too long and doesn't get to 1/4 of the terms we NEED to know for quiz. Actually pained me to sit there sometimes. Nice/funny teacher and hes trying his best to improve, but just terrible lectures. Homework is easy and so are the quizzes, so study those and youll pass. Study/read and A+
He is one of my greatest teacher at gulf coast state college. On the begging the gave 3 assignments. I got 70 out of 100. However, there was a change next 3 assignments, I got 100 on 3 .He took 4 out of 6. Just record his lecture with permission, please, follows what he said. his lecture is on topic or syllabus, without recording device is harder.
Professor Brennan is a kind and passionate guy but rambles a lot. He ends class 5 minutes late. Most assignments are short, easy writing assignments. Follow directions, get the easy A. His class felt a bit disorganized, but he'll help you out if you need anything. Don't buy the book. Overall, he's a good prof, but he has flaws.
Literally was one of the most disrespectful professors at gulf coast I have ever had. His attitude made you think he was a child. Hope he doesnt forget our tuition is what keeps him going and that students deserve respect too. Just because you are a teacher doesnt mean youre allowed to be so rude. We are human too.
Dr. Brennan's Western Civ class was tough as his Canvas is set up poorly and hard to navigate. He gives assignments based on outside reading and two-hour videos from Youtube. He is not great with technology and uploaded a few assignment links that were not accessible. Harsh grader and did not link textbook chapters with assignments and modules.
Prof. Brennan is a nice guy. He talks with everyone and tries to engage people in class. His lectures, though, are incredibly boring and rambly. Some of his assignments are based on long videos that have nothing to do with the class. Some are easy too. The class isn't too difficult, I just feel like I don't know half of what we "discussed".
I honestly hate (and I know that is a strong word) any kind of subject related to history. I was never good at it and never liked it. This professor changed that for me. He made the assignments fun. He kept me interested the whole time, and he was a very fair grader.
This professor was 100% unprepared for this class. It was an 8 week short semester and we didnt do the first assignment until almost the 4th week. Not very good with the canvas platform so stuff was very disorganized. We didnt cover the last third of the class and rushed through the first two thirds in an attempt to cover material. Waste of time
Do yourself a favor, skip the stress by not taking a class with prof. Brennan. He is VERY difficult to work with, he plans assignments very sporadically with no rhyme/reason. He grades terribly. Be prepared to go above and beyond. And don't do extra credit, its not worth it because he'll just spring on you to take quizzes with terrible questions.
he was so creepy with the female students and would ask to meet after hours for no reason. he asked to meet a student after completing the semester, offered her a drink, and when she declined, called her a offensive name and pulled up her transcript and told her she would never get to dream university without him.
He was very inconsistent when making assignments and study guides for each chapter. The questions on the tests didn't make any sense, and answers varied between sources. It's almost like he wanted us to read his mind when it came to the answers. When study guides and slides were provided, they rarely had anything to do with testing material.
Overall, this course was fine. Brennan uses very little visuals in his lectures throughout the semester and isn't structured. 3/4 exams were available online and was able to retake a single exam at the end of the semester. The material of this course was not difficult and totally manageable. Very little assignments are given, tests weigh heavily.
Absolutely the worst professor!! Do not take him if you have any other choice.
This is the worst teacher known to mankind, absolutely 0 leniency and remorse for his students. I don't wish this Professor on my worst enemy.
I typically love history class. Not with this guy.He always would give 30 assignments for each week and only post a few of them on Canvas. He says rude/ weird comments.I submitted a biosketch that was required and I said my school plans, job plans, and a hopeful future job I could have.He told me it was a long shot, and I should just focus on school.
I had him for an online class was super easy. You do have a bunch of assignments every week or so but they aren't long. He aren't proctored either.
Basically if you didn't sit front row and kiss his feet, he not only didn't like you but also would disrespect you. He would randomly call people out, called me uneducated (didnt know a dead communist is a diff country), ALWAYS went over class time, and would talk ab current politics in the US. Tried to leave at the time class ended, gotscreamedat.
Professor Brennan's classes can be hit-or-miss, but if you stay engaged and use resources like Unstuck AI for study prep, you can succeed. His lectures are often tangential, but insightful. Attendance is key, and the grading is reasonable.
Made many inappropriate comments. No clear class structure and only go to test one by the end of the semester
Is not willing to work with students AT ALL. Does not care whether you are doing well in the class or not, and a crazy amount of assignments every week. I DO NOT recommend this professor.
This guy is alright if you are good at history and stuff,. but if not, I would stay away he is funny and alll but he just yaps and yaps and yaps and never teaches.
Terrible professor, did none of the teaching. I had to learn everything by myself, NO help whatsoever.
Professor Brennan is an amazing professor. You can feel his passion for history and his lectures are so interesting! If you come to class and study the material you will pass the class. I would recommend him especially if you are a student like me who was never interested in history.
No classwork or assignments, just hard ahh exams. Made me hate history.
This professor wastes your time and money. He makes you buy a textbook he never uses, gives excessive homework, and assigns long proctored tests. He misgraded my work and was passive-aggressive when I emailed. Reporting him does nothing. Avoid this class—your GPA is at risk. BEWARE!!
I would not take again if given the chance. It took a little bit getting used to the way he taught and I could tell he was very knowledgeable in his subject, but I felt a little off-center by the pace in which he lectured. Again, it just takes a lot of focus and getting used to but it was a bit of a headache for a little there...
