Bresnan is a good teacher. It's a fairly difficult class though, his quizzes are sometimes too specific. You're given a quiz before class begins over the reading assignment. His book is a good read, and he is extremely knowledgeable with Buddhism.

This class was hella easy. Class attendence was not required but recomended. As long as you stayed half awake and read the book you'll do ok. He even pretty much outlines exactly what you need to know from the book.

AMAZING! the most knowledgable man on the topic, with the greatest knack for explaining it. Havent taken his history class though. The only rason i have him a 4 for easiness is because you have to read for every class, but its ussually easy.

he is pretty cool. It is easy if you do the readings. The topic he teaches is very interesting and fun. I really loved his class. EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE PHILOSOPHY!!!! You get to meditate in class. And the final is pretty simple. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!

Mr Bresban was by far the best history teacher I have ever had. He teaches so well u want to go to his class everyday.TAKE HIM! Will be trying him out for Phil this quarter.

He is a great teacher!! He knows his stuff and knows how to teach it. Do your work and pay attention and you'll do well. Bresnan is FUN and his classes are fun as well. I urge history students to take him, you'll love him!!! I enjoyed him a lot.

ok here's the truth. he's easy i admit it. but he's also a **** **** somtimes. hard to resist falling asleep. reading is VERY important, 70% of the test is about what you read. the other 30% is the lectures. i had bad experience but he's a good guy

he kicks @$$! I loved his class. very intellegent man, knows how to teach. The lectures were very interesting.... if you are open minded and enjoy hands on (meditation)then you'll love it.

i had him for distance learnin..he's funny and very friendly..and if yoo have any qustions he'll help yoo..i thought that his make up tests were easier than the multiple choice tho..butt thas only if yor good at writin short essays.

MOST OF THESE RATINGS ARE FAKE. Somebody writes them periodically for this guy, as well as for others. Bresnan is not particularly bad, but certainly not THAT good. -------------------

His voice makes me wanna fall asleep, but he's not a bad teacher. Pretty easy class if you do all the readings and come to class often. Most of the exam comes from the reading - about a quater of it comes from the lecture notes.

we take quizzes everyday, and they are so percise. the quizzes are from the reading which are a couple of pages. if your good at remembering, like philosophy, and enjoy discussing take the class.

currently taking him again this quarter bec i enjoyed his class last quarter. the majority of the quizzes are pretty easy, and thre are quizzes every lecture (his way of making u go to class). all in all, interesting material, meditation once a week. fun

Will never take a class with him again. Very hard to understand and follow. Assumed everyone knows as much as he do and make you feel bad if you don't follow him. Will never recommend.

if u plan to take his HISTORY class, please don't trap yourfelf. His online class seems easy but it's not. Lots of readings and the questions are dame hard. He will drop both 1st and 2nd tests if ur grade is D or F. It's hard to get A honestly.

Takes a roll call and gives a test in every class meeting (No midterm & final exam, though), but he is a very nice professor. Be prepared that you will have to experience A LOT OF readings (in detail).

He is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He awakened my sense of the connectedness of history, and how important it is to study it. He brings in music, art, lit into his historic eras. Excellent! I will always remember his classes.

His class is unique, interesting, and fun. Students criticize him for giving quizzes every class meeting, but the quiz is only meant to encourage you to do the assigned reading and it's not even hard. Mr. Bresnan is a great professor.

He is a good professor but the tests are pretty tough.I mean its really important to attend the lectures because he explains certain things which are not there in the text and the questions are asked based on class lectures and all that has been read.So its really imp.to read and attend lectures.

A very easy going teacher and an interesting class. he also did write the book that you use so he knows what he's talking about. his quizzes are based on the reading assignments so read carefully. but all in all a good class to take, so good that i'm taking his next classes.

His class and tests are pretty straight foward if you have questions he will gladly answer. It also helps to attend class as oftern as possible he will ask questions from class lecture. He doen't like people who sleep in class so if you are one of those students just stay home.

good teacher. i got an a. but i also stayed up literally all night studying. but i never got an a on any of the midterms, and only did one extra credit assignement. so, easy grader. fun class. straight-forward tests.

easy to pass, more effort for an A. i didnt read the text book, just the biography on thomas jefferson, which wasnt too bad, and i got a B. tests weren't too bad. never took attendance!

This is a class everyone should experience. Bresnan has boundless knowledge about Eastern philosophy. Teaches with passion and enthusiasm. Very interesting and not very hard if you make minimal effort.

I agree, it's a horrible class!I dropped it since I didn't need a credit and sighned up becasue I thought I would like it.He is a very lazy instructor.He does not teach at all.Half of the time is spent of the tests, than he's taking the rollsheet, than irrelavent jokes.Than tiny bit of subject info

i took his online course. went to his orientation and he seemed very boring. theres so much to know and his test questions are so random, not what you would think is important he would test you on. his online class is okay. dont think i would be able to sit in one of his lectures though

He's a nice guy but I have to agree with the last rating. Test questions are random, no study guide. He says to study from the online study guide but only a small percent of exam questions are taken from there. Lots of reading. Upside, if you can call it one, he grades on a curve. Where did that hot rating come from??? Did his wife rate his class?

I love, love, loved the class. It was my first year back in school(after several failed attempts) and this class, kept me going all quarter. Definately, my favorite class of the day and the weekly meditations helped me keep my sanity. Good speaker, very witty and confident. Highly recommend the class.

I took his online/telecourse, and I must say you have to be an idiot not to get a B or higher in his class. You take 3 tests over the course of the semester and that's it. There is a video series component to the class, but he doesnt take questions from that. He clearly tells you that all test questions will be from the reading. Take his course.

If you are interested in the eastern philosophy of Confuscionism, Buddhism, this is the class to take. The intructor writes the text, and the quizzes are given every class based on the content he assigned before class. There are no final, and three essays. The instructor is really nice, he gives you chance to talk and teaches meditation.

this is the class that i interested most of all the classes I attended at deanza. the subject that taught in the class is very interesting and it was very worthy to read everything asigned. in short, this class is the class that i enjoy most.

Outstanding teacher. Very highly reconmended. He knows what he's talking about. He's very open for discussion, and any questions. He is relaxed and obviously loves his job very much. He is very dedicated. The material is very interesting, his book is somewhat easy to read and the time he allows to meditate in class is great! I loved this class.

He's a reasonable teacher, and obviously knows a lot about the subject (eastern phil). There's a quiz every day based on reading, not too hard. Three papers and no tests. That being said, he would get on my nerves from time to time; he is an ex-hippy now yuppie, he can be a little aggravating. Other than that he's fine.

The big thing I would note is that he tries very hard to have the class as much run by the students as by him, and that he writes his own textbook travelling to Asia. I would suggest not asking for clarification on quiz answers unless youre REALLY unsure, when in doubt just give em the point :P It already takes too long to do quiz/roll

I like this guy. He's one of the less common professors that's understands the students. Very on target with his material and the exams were fair to easy. He has all of my repect.

17a class was terrible. taught by brensnan and knittel in forum 1. hundreds showed up, hardly anyone is left now at the end of quarter and only ~2/3 show up. txt is lame & not comprehensive, profs. constantly give their political/biased opinions & get off topic, they don't teach what the course is supposed to cover & they "teach" POORLY!easybutlame

this guy is great!!! extremely hilarious and intelligent. His lectures are interesting and he always says jokes that can crack anyone up. His grading is very easy; no tests(no final and midterm), just quizzes and three essays. He doesn't grade hard at all. TAKE HIM___HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

bresnan has a great knowledge and experience in the field of eastern religions. he did an awsome job of picking material covered and led VERY thought prevoking discussions. also an all around nice guy who really loves what he does. i don't know how his other classes are, but this class rules...and bresnan has a huge part to play in how great it is

Taken online, there are only three multiple choice tests (60 ?'s each). Tests are takin in person, so plan accordingly. He averages the three tests. I never bought the textbook and got a low B, but History is common sense and logical prediction. Tests are ok. There are also three review sessions in person for extra credit. Go to those!

One of the most amazing teachers I've ever had. Bresnan is a brillant and wonderful person. I've taken every class he teaches and wish there were more.I highly recomend any and all of his classes. By far, the best teacher I've had at De Anza.

Mr. B is cool and funny but dont let it fool you into believeing that the class is an easy A. Its NOT AN EASY A. His grading system is WEIRD. He will tell you that he is an easy grader but NOT. If you are one of the ppl that cares about your grade please ask specific questions and ask until you get the answers. but its a good class overall.

This instructor is everything you need for a clear, intelligent, fun, inspiring, and thought provoking class. His style should be emulated by other teachers. No tests, just quizes and these are a breeze with reading the few pages assigned beforehand. Straightforward papers. Easy A. I am back in his class for PHIL-14b because of the good experience.

Bressy, I know you read these and I'd like to say the class was horrible. No, seriously a very engaging class, great meditation and yoga sessions. Text was a nice read and the DVD was Speilbergesque. Asian Art trip was a blast. Thanks for an engaging class.

Hey Professor! Thanks for the class! I recomend this class to anyone who actually likes learning cool stuff. Any jokers out there who are just looken for an easy A, stay away, you waste this teachers time! He's an awsome guy, and remember to speak up, because he is a little hard of hearing. One of the most interesting class I've taken at De Anza. The class is based on reading quizzes (which were pretty easy if you read the assignment)and 3 short essays. The book is a easy read and actually quite interesting. The meditation exercises were very relaxing and calming. Overall, great class and great teacher!

really passionate about his subject. a little hard of hearing but otherwise a great teacher. grade is mostly based on reading quizzes at the beginning of each class, and if you read the assignment thoroughly, you'll get an easy A. 3 short papers including a visit to a museum. AWESOME CLASS!

he is the worse teacher ever in deanza dun believe wut the previous reviewer said b/c he is so fake at first he tell u he doesn't care about the grade and act so nice to make u stay in his class at least half of the class drop and his class is boring and he couldn't answer student's question very well his famous answer is " who has the answer?"

Interesting teacher who seems quite content with his life. Every day there is a quiz from the readings but no final. 3 Essays which are super easy. Easy class in general, should pull off an A no problem. Can bring you into a deeper insight about life. Take the class if interested in religious studies or GE.

There's alot more you can get from Mr Bresnan than a letter grade. DO the reading/study question assignments and listen to what he has to say. If you aren't willing to immerse yourself into the subject matter you are going to hate the class, so might as well open your mind, and learn all about it. The rest of your life will thank you for it.

Mr. Bresnan is such a mellow instructor. He is VERY open-minded. There is a quiz on the assigned reading at each class meeting, but DON'T WORRY, they ARE DOABLE! Often times his lectures and the class discussion can be repetitive and boring; just don't fall asleep because he will get ticked off. Give respect to receive respect!

Prof. Bresnan is a great teacher! He does require your attendance and for you to read the text. There is a mini quiz at the begining of every class and 3 writing assignments. Just study, be respectful and you will see that he is actually a cool guy. I took 2 of his courses- recieved a B the first time and an A the next.

Mr. Bresnan is rad and a half! He knows what he's talking about, and encourages you to use your brain. He's really chill, and is the sort of person i would want to hang with outside of school(no I'm not being sarcastic). You also get to meditate in his class, which can be really relaxing.

Nice guy overall and entertaining most times but his dvd was boring. DO NOT fall asleep. "Get out and never come back." I went to his office to apologize and he said "Save it, I don't want to hear it. You can still drop with a W before next friday. Do it before then." No sleep in class = nice teacher.

I took the class by accident. My friend told me it was cool. I always thought I hated philosophy, esp. Eastern Phil. I ended up liking it a lot. Subject was very interesting, contrary to my belief. Teacher can get a little repetitive and his book as well. 3 not-too-philosophical essays. No final. Daily quizzes.

This was one of the best classes I've ever taken and I'd strongly recommend it to anyone who has any interest in eastern cultures. Very good teacher. Very interesting subject matter. MUST buy the book.

I took his Eastern Phil A & B classes and LOVED them!!!! The second class was even better! I learned so much about myself and about the world in general in his class. The drop rate was LOW in his class to no surprise! He is hands down my favorite teacher ever! I took a history class with him too and also enjoyed that very much :)

I took the Distance Learning class this summer, you basically just take three test and that's it. I did bad on the first test, but good on the next two. Ended up with a B in the class. Nice guy, but it got really annoying how he was careless about somethings =/ he wastes time by interrupting you for like 10 minutes during tests, so be careful!

Awesome teacher. He's very personable and makes class a discussion and loves imput. He makes it feel as if he's an old friend you haven't seen in a while. He also constantly checks to make sure if everyone is understanding the material or have any questions. Make sure you do the reading because there is a quiz at the beginning of each class.

He's not too bad, but he does treat you like highschool students. He gets pretty mad when someone talks in class...even if someone is just asking to borrow a pencil or something. Attendance is DEFINITELY mandatory, quiz every class, first 5-10 minutes. So if you're late, no make-up. Quizzes were easy at first but got harder and more detailed.

Hes one of the best teachers in my life and at Deanza. Hes organized and makes learning fun and relaxing! I am glad i took his eastern phil classes. register early for disappointment. Hes travelled the world and been to places such as India which is the base of his phil classes. Highly recommend you take his class.
