Coaty's class is not that hard, he actually makes you think and analyze everything. Just study the work book, and be sure to make extra copies of it because he will not give it back. I went in thinking I was going to fail, but hey I got an "A"!!!!!!!!
This teacher doesnt teach****! But overall a very easy teacher if you just memorize the workbook for the tests. Overall his class lectures are pointless to attend b/c like I said, he doesn't teach. If your going to class just bring in your other class work and work on them instead. EASY A CLASS.

His lectures are very boring and he gets off topic. His tests are confusing, they offer trick questions and hardly anyone did good in his class. ALso, he is nicer to the guys than to the girls. I wouldn't suggest this class.
Before I took his class, I had little interest in politics or how our government worked. Now I am fascinated in the subject. Coaty is definately passionate about his field. I had to work hard in his class, but it has payed off in how I approach my other classes

This guy is a horrible human being. He enjoys making fun of students that ask any questions at all. The problem is that you need to ask lots of questions because he is so disorganized. His tests are ridiculous and he is one of the worst teachers that I have ever had.
Coaty is by far the worst teacher at OCC. The questions on the tests usually have more than one correct answer, making them very unclear. He degrades the students who ask questions and lectures on topics unrelated to the subject. It's no wonder he has a PHD and teachers at a community college.
He is clueless. I love politics and history, asked him some questions he could not answer. I don't like his teaching style. Basically just read the book and the study guide. Lectures are totally worthless. You get attendence points, otherwise I would have stayed home. Waste of time!! Got an A.

Stay far and away from this professor. The textbook, written by him and his partners, cost me 100 dollars new. Its never available on amazon or any internet site. Hes not that difficult, but hes a conceited professor.He didnt inspire me to be interested in majoring in political science.
He's one of those teachers who make you care about the world. His tests are disorganized, but the lectures are a marketplace of ideas. He does like to hear himself talk, but he'll let you argue with him even if you're sounding like an idiot. Stupid people don't like his class cuz they have to think
This teacher makes class interesting, but it seems as though his lectures have nothing to do with his tests. It just seems like a waste of time showing up. His tests are definitely challenging because they're unclear and he doesn't do the best job at teaching. He is entertaining though!
Coaty is the****. Whoever says that he is a bad professor only do so because they dont give a damn about the world or anything about it. Coaty's class is probably the most interesting class I have ever had...he actually makes going to school and learning seem productive.
Dr. Coaty is best of all, test are very easy and his class is fun.. easy an A for class as long as you do the little work. whoever is telling BS about his class is loser. man get a life and study little bit. you will be good to go. take his class for easy fun an A.compare to other teacher he is best
Fascinating course, fantastic professor. Coaty is one of the most interactive and relevant professors at OCC. He dedicates a good portion of his lecture periods to discussion of current events. In-class discussions tend to deviate from test content, but test material is straightforward and basic, and does not require much class time to analyze.
Best teacher I have had at OCC and I've taken a ton of classes. He is very easy if you actually read the book and memorize his study guide. If you do that, easiest "A" you will ever get. His test are straight forward and common sense questions. I liked his class because he made you think and question if things are logical or not.
i loved this class because Coaty makes it interesting, and makes you think, esp. when discussing current events. tests are easy if you know the study guide and read. pretty easy a you just can't be lazy.
Coaty defenitely makes you think about current political issuses. As long as you attend classes, take tests and turn in essay will pass course. Great guy to learn from.

Professor Coaty is brilliant and helpful. He scares you the whole term by telling you how all his stuents complain about him ruining their GPA - then gives you a higher grade than you expected! Read and do workbook, take tests and fail every one and still get an A! Do the paper, I think that helps a lot and just study and listen and show up everday
His class is not boring at all! he talks abouth current issues wich makes the class fun. Read the book and you'll be fine. I got an A!
Spends most of the class talking about current issues and like 10% of the class talking about Po. Sci. Study hard and you will do ok. Use the work book.

Coaty is a very smart and knowledgable teacher with a charming personality and a great sense of humor. The discussions in class (which some idiots on here will say weren't relevant to PS) were very informative. An "A" is easy if you (do what is obvious) read the book and do the study guide. I came away with a much better understanding of politics.
Coaty's poli sci class was fairly easy, we did a paper and if you did your footnotes correctly and had a bibliography, you got an A. Class could be boring at times, cracks alot of jokes...overall great professor.

He was soo interesting and very funny. I loved going to his class. He always kept me listening. I learned a ton. I would take another one of his classes in a heartbeat!

me, me, me, I, I, I. get used to hearing this in his class. Most of his lectures will be ranting and raving about current issues, not the book.(which you can NOT buy used and he co-wrote). Boring class.
His lecture is sometimes somewhat entertaining, you don't get much out of the lectures, just read the study guide and sometimes the book you'll be fine.
if you want an easy class..this is the one. hes funny and gets MOST OF THE Q'S FROM the study guide and puts them on the test. i didn't read 2 much,but if u do,tests are a breeze. theres a 5 pg essay,if u do the footnotes and biblio and sort of have an argument,u get an A.dont have an opinion tho,cuz he'll say its a myth.hes smart and knowledgeable
Doesnt reallly lecture according to the book, so you have to follow along yourself. The tests are straight from the study guide. The first class he seems really rigid and mean, but thats just to put you in your place after that he is so funny really nice and willing to answer all your questions
If you have decent study skills, this class is an easy A. Almost every test question comes from the workbook. Be sure to make copies of it, he collects pages at random and you won't get them back. you need them to study. he doesnt go over test material in class, more just current events. he's very unbiased in his explanation of political issues.

This teacher does nothing but preach his own opinions in this class. If you can handle listening to that the rest of the class is a piece of cake as the test questions come directly from the book.
Easy class if you read the book and memorize the study guide because 80 percent of the q's on testss are from the study guides. Very frustrated when the class "completely misses his point." Eager to debate and prove people wrong or at least confuse him but extremely knowledgeable.
He is so incredibly easy. Don't buy the book; it's a complete waste of money. Every question on the test comes straight out of the study guide so just copy the answers from the back and memorize them! :)

His lecture is based on current event and news. You do not need to take notes on the powerpoint screen. Test question come directly from the study guides QUESTION(T/F, Multiple choice). Just study it during the class and you'll be ok Take my advice, make copies of the study guides Questions and answer, because he collects them randomly.
One of the most interesting teachers in the school. he states that he does not read this, but he does. I think he is a little right winged if ya know what I mean. Made alot of excuses for bush! Good teacher though. Gets you to think, which is rare at this school. You have one paper and the rest tests. Turn in your homework! Easy A!

Patrick is a great professor. Unlike most professors, he doesn't make his political views clear, his whole purpose is to get you involved in our country's political system. I loved the class. He is a wonderful person and I wish he would teach other political science classes.
I was scared going into this class, but the test were really easy and he knows his stuff and is very passionate about it. I would definitly recommend this class.
The tests are really easy just right out of the study guide. At the beginning of class he talks about current events and you learn alot, but none of it is on the test and the notes really arn't necessary. Just make sure to photocopy the study guide because he collets the pages and doesn't give them back and they are show up word for word on the tst
he lies in the beginning of the sesmester saying that his tests dont come from the study guide. buy the study guide only (because he collects hw from it, so just photo copy the whole guide)! i bought the book and didn't even open it once. just sleep in his class, and study the guide!
i truly hated this class. he was so ignorant about iran it was hard to listen to his garbage throughout each class. but all u need to do u memorize the study guide for his tests. word for word out of the study guide and there is a huge curve if ur in a small class. easy but he is just horrible, its up to you..
I liked this class I took this class with another professor and thought it was sooo boring.. so boring that i couldnt stay awake causing me to FAIL!!(I have a 3.8 too) yea this isnt the most interesting subject, but he actually lets you talk about whats going on in the world.. take this class. its fair and easy if you ACTUALLY STUDY!
Hes really dedicated to getting young people involved in politics. He spends alot of time talking about current events which I find really interesting. The class requires a lot of independent reading, but theres very little homework. He is an incredibly intelligent man and offers his students a lot of insight .
Spens a good portion of class talking about current events which I really like. Hes clear and fair against both liberl and conservative viewpoints...good teacher. As far as tests go just memorize the study guide cmpletely like I did...easy 'A'
Very knowlegdable and talks about current events everyday. However, his views are totally bias and never accepts the fact the government is wrong. He does admit to the fact that it is incompetent. Fun class though, and would love to take it again
The worst teacher I have ever had. I am a premed student, and had a perfect 4.0 until I took this class. His discussions rarely ever help you prepare for test. Be prepared to study everything on your own, including the book. Some of the test questions do come from the book and the videos. If you want to actually learn, take another teacher.
Best teacher ever! Do the paper and show up everyday! Dont miss one class and you will pass! I failed all four tests and I passed with a C!

This teacher doesnt teach U.S. Government he teaches current events 101.. he says hes an expert on Iran but all his facts are mixed up...his test questions come from i dont know where..not the study guide thats for sure...this teacher is a real dick..but the class stays awake from hes ignorant comments...i have no idea how i got a B in his class

A dynamic speaker! He knows his stuff. So what if the information comes out of the work book for your tests, your still learning aren't you? And you do need to read your textbook because question do come out of there.
He spends about half of the class time discussing current events but none of it appears on the test so you can listen or just tune him out if you want. About 90% of the test questions come directly from the study guide so if you study that you'll do fine. oh and only one essay.
This guy is great! He's nice, intelligent, funny, and his class is super easy. Just do the study guide for tests and weekly assignments (easy). Daily talks about current events are interesting and take up half the class. So much easier than I expected. One paper on anything of your choice! DEFINITELY TAKE HIM! =D
Terrible! He had the class watch politics on TV for hw and we would disscuss it in class as well as current events we had to write. It always seemed like he was yelling. Nothing we EVER talked about in class was on his tests. He was very unclear with his directions on the research paper he makes you write

You DONT need the book. All questions come from Study Guide, I got 100 on each exam, didnt open the book once. Have to write an essay on a book he wrote. The final is cumulative and he included the "war on terror" (his) book and says it is our "reward" for reading it,he needs to look up the word reward because 15 chapters AND that book is no reward
If u are/aren't versed on politics this class is for you. He's a brillant & humorous which makes the class interesting. DO NOT SLEEP IN HIS CLASS!! Exams are fair, paper is based on his book. Just follow the instructions and careful footnoting. All and all this is a great class. Take him u won't regret it :)

Straight up memorize the study guide and you'll be golden. I got an A and I'm not super smart, at all. Just take the time to make flash cards and make sure you memorize them and I can guaruntee you an A. Plus, he's pretty funny. Kind of a dick, but an entertaining one. &You get out SUPER early a lot. Class got cancelled 3 times last semester!
If you have extracurricular activities DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He's anal on everything from attendance to tests. He refuses to give out study guides and when you ask what's on the test, he says, "everything." Although the lectures were interesting, his paranoia killed it completely. He loves politics and it shows, but anal paranoia is unbearable.
I did not like his class at all. He spends a lot of time talking about current events and imposing his opinion on a lot of issues, especially war on terror. His tests are directly from study guide, but he has some problems on his war on terror book which was not on study guide. He is very unclear and I learned nothing much about govt in this class.

Coaty's not a bad guy. His class isn't hard as long as you do your work. Don't be lazy and this class shouldn't be hard. Test = study guide. One paper which sucks, but he doesn't grade hard on it as long as you try. He mostly talks about current events, but his class is still easy.
Attendance is mandatory: he collects homework. All homework was from his insanely overpriced textbook, but they are simple T/F multiple choice worksheets. COPY ALL HW since he collects the originals: they are WORD FOR WORD test questions. Do his research paper: it seems hard but just do it, he grades easy.
Current events are great. Best time of class. Other than that, he can't teach. He isn't clear on the paper you ahve to write. He won't help you on the questions in the chapter reviews. You never know if you answer them correctly or not. Same exact questions are on the exam. Other than that, easy.
This guy sucks !!! He can't teach at all and all his lectures are boring. I'd rather stare at a wall for 10 hours! He is always trying to defend his teaching style and trying to scare us with his tests. For a class that he says isn't based on his opinion he sure uses the word "I" combine with "Think" alot.
No offense, but I think his books are waaaaayyyyyyy too costly..I'm not cheap, but I don't have a lot of money like some people. He should lower the price. His lectures are pretty boring so far.

Txtbooks are expensive! He causes a lot of confusion. Some of the answers to the chapter review questions that are given in the book differ from the answers he gives in his lectures. This causes major confusion on exam day because 9/10 questions are directly from the book. Funny guy but needs to avoid adding his personal opinions in his lectures

this is an easy class ever, i was scare to take dis class b/c alot of pplz told me its a hard subject. i proved them wrong i got an A in this class. all u need to do in class is to do all the study guide which is ur homework. he will random collect them because all those quesions is gonna be out the test.u will write 4 pages essay thou.
He is very VERY opinionated and his lectures are completely based around HIS beliefs. Go to class he will randomly collect pages frm the study guide as hmwk. Tests are WORD 4 WORD from study guide so don't even bother buying the expensive text book i didn't and got an A. 1 paper based on his book (War on Terror). Class is on curve so that's a plus.

Just read, attend class and study the questions from the chapters as they will be on the tests. He makes the class pretty interesting.
Over all the class was so/so. Some of his lectures were interesting, some not so much. Read the 2 books and memorize the study questions at the end of each chapter. Theres one paper 4-5 pages, as long as you turn one in you'll get an A or B on it.4 tests(your lowest score is dropped) and theres a curve so that helps.
This guy is so awesome, by far the most enjoyable class I have taken so far at OCC. He really knows how to keep you interested throughout the whole class.
his lectures are interesting but his tests are ridiculous. asks you detailed questions that doesn't encompass the overall POINT of taking an intro poli sci course. his text is written poorly. often too vague about upcoming tests and the essay. AND u're not allowed to look at previous tests to see what questions u got wrong to help with the final.
Easy teacher who grades on a curve. Make copies of all the quizzes in the book and study them!! Interesting lectures sometime. Hate his tests though. Sometime he asks too much detailed questions, like when the last czar died. Who the hell is gonna remember that?! I wish he'd test us more on the main points of the chapters.
Very vague, you have to feel the class out on your own. He does not tell you to photocopy book questions as you turn them in and he never hands them back so you dont know if they are right or wrong or have them to study from. He does not hand ANYTHING back so you don't know what or even if you did anything wrong on homework, tests, or the papers.
Professor Coaty is a great teacher. He likes to talk about the War alot, but thats good to keep us updated on current events. His is very funny and Im never bored in his class, but his tests are hard. I had an A but that was b/c I was working my butt off. Just do all the work, do the essay, and study the nots on the test and you will be fine.
Coaty is extremely passionate about political science so you get a great deal of information. Every class he would discuss current events. But really, what I took home at the end of the day, was how he is/has prepared for the inevitable chemical warfare and bombing of CA military bases. Yep. He knows how to create a panic.
Professor Coaty is an excellent professor. I took his political science class in a large lecture hall. He was still able to convey how much he cared about his students. I wish I could have taken him for another class, as well. I like him very much.
Coaty is a passionate professor. He keeps us updated in current events. He constantly lectures on the current war and it seams is job is trying to get his students freaked out about nuclear bombing, and how the US isn?t prepared for it. The tests are exactly the homework questions just in different order so they are easy to ace.
O and dont ask questions in his class. He has a way of making everyone feel stupid no matter what the question. And he continuously makes remarks about our bad writing skills. Funny how he clowns on us yet both of the books he wrote have so many grammar and word usage errors you'd think he must've cheated in english class.COATY's a complete JOKE
Fairly easy, go to class, read the book, answer the questions. The bad- Does not give back tests, never know what you missed. He touts teaching us to be independent and free thinking by looking up the answers to the questions we do not know. How do we know what we missed if we don't get the test back. Sad that we learned some things incorrectly
Mr Coaty is the best teacher I've ever had. He is passionate, hilarious, intriguing and verrry knowledgable about his class. He loves teaching and made me love a class I started out hating. His tests are straight from his easy to read book he wrote himself, and are exact homework questions. A++++
After a summer course with this prof, I have to say he's pretty straightforward and the material is easy to learn. Pros: lectures on current events, text is easy to study from, quizzes(MTs) are straight from the book. Cons: lectures get boring, forces you to buy (his) expensive and lousy textbooks ($150 for approx same number of pgs.), cant sell it
Easyyyy... tests are really straight forward, just study the questions at the back of each section. Make sure you turn in the homework... you want to go to class because you never know when he'll collect it. If I had had my homework, which was really easy to do, I would have gotten an A because the tests are really easy too.
He is generally an okay professor. His homework questions = test questions. An A is possible with minimal study. You might learn a thing or two, but he likes teaching what he believes not what is. He spends a week on the Constitution yet says the Iraq war was legal because Bush "went" to Congress, but no declaration of war. He shies away from this.
He is a great professor! You need to go to class because you never know when he will ask for homework. You need to do the paper. His tests are easy. Study the questions in the workbook.
The class is mellow during the lectures, it's slow and boring. The homework is OK but it's not given back so you don't know if you got anything wrong. The tests are too broad and don't cover the main points of the chapter. The book is very poorly written and costs wayy too much.
I dislike this professors teaching methods. He skips over text/Chapters,uses his own textbooks (which ref. each other!)The text is terrible. The tests are ok, but he throws in the WOT book in the 3rd Test, he tries to trick you by making questions wrong on the homework (which is where tests are from) He'll answer your questions, I wouldnt take him
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He does not give you a syllabus because he supposedly believes in a "paperless class" but instead makes you buy both of his books(paper) that he wrote, one of which gives you an access code to see a syllabus online. You must also buy the books because the HW is in them, and one on them you have to write a term paper on..

Prof. Coaty is a good teacher, but, he doesn't try to engage his students that much through the homework and tests. They don't require much studying, so it's not really that stimulating, but I guess some people learned a bit.

First couple weeks were easy, then he went into his Boring lectures in the second half. Doesn't tell you whats on the test when it cover 6 or 7 chapters. Not very friendly. Never recommend him.
we are 1/3 through the online course and everyone is still lost. he cut out the mandatory meetings, but now we have to MAIL in our homework...he is rude and unhelpful. everyone is right, the books we have to buy are a joke. i have never witnessed such an unprofessional teaching method and attitude from a teacher at OCC. what a disappointment.
I say we boycott his classes because he is a sorry excuse for a teacher. This man should not be paid when there are thousands of people looking for jobs right now that would do a way better job than the sorry excuse for a class Coaty has set up. I wish we had a syllabus that was related to the class we are taking. Everything is a mess.
He is by far the worst professor at OCC. He's rude and extremely cold when it comes to handling issues with his students. His course assistants are awful and rude as well. The class is so unorganized and no one has any idea what's going on. All the bad ratings below me are dead-on. DON'T TAKE HIM!

I liked him... I thought he was interesting. I liked his class, just read his book and study for quizzes... simple... He's actually very nice and understanding if you actually talk to him and explain.

I'm not into Government and politics AT ALL, but Coaty explains topics and situations so everyone can understand them. Test & quiz questions are the EXACT SAME QUESTIONS from your homework. You have the whole semester to write a paper based on a book he wrote, but that's not hard either. He loves what he teaches and he's a good teacher. :)
tests were right out of the book and lecture. you just had to stay awake for the info. but could pass by just reading over the study guides you have to BUY.
Sooo easy and quit fascinating. I wasnt into politics at all before I took this class and I loved the class discussion on current events at the beginning of every class(sometimes would go on for half the class or more) He really got me interested in learning more about our system and the way it works.
I took his summer online poli sci class and thought the assignments and tests were clear cut. I had an F from a forum poli sci class at GWC with a guy they should fire. I got an A in this class. I definitely recommend online courses as opposed to ridiculously huge forum classes where you waste time listening to often irrelevant lectures.
I took the online PSCI Class. Overall, pretty easy class if you do all the assignments. The test questions are the exact same questions straight from the study guide. He helps as best he can, but sometimes doesn't answer student's quetions clearly. The essay wasn't as bad as I thought. Overall, not THAT bad as some people say/complain about.
The guy lectures about world events. Doesnt prepare for test. He expects you to read 1200 pages the course of the semester. A 5 page paper. No studyguide. Random questions on historical documents. He asked 5 questions comparing and contrasting the Articles of Confederation with the Coution without teaching it. Dont take. Totally excessive.
This teacher is awful. Definitely the worst at OCC. He only cares about the money not the students. He doesn't make sense. Refuses to give back work so u have no idea how u r doing in the class. With as many students as he has in his online class, he should give clear directions but he didn't. Then he made excuses and refused to make exceptions. I am a 4.0 student but couldn't get an A in his 100 level class...
His online class had 400 students and he was unable to provide clear instructions for any of the assignments. When complaints were brought up by numerous students, he ignored them or made excuses. Worst teacher I've ever had!
Online class: Okay, so he does not help AT ALL. You never really know what grade you're gonna end up with. This was the most frustrating class ever! Seriously, I was pulling my hair out because of him not helping. He uses a lot of the questions from the HW but when you turn it in you never know what you got wrong. I got an A but still vry annoying.
Frustrating is a word. This guy doesn't care about anything but his PhD. No help what so ever, lectures on nothing, test out of hw which you don't know if you got right, the rest just random questions from the book. He spends his time looking up what have other students writen about him and then changes the way he does things. Horrible.

umm.. this guy's online class is really unorganized. This guy will make you insecure about your academics. i am currently taking an online class and it is unclear and there is A LOT A LOT A LOT of reading. you have to write little papers on everything which are disguised as "journals" but really mini essays about EVERYTHING you read. beware, please
Really Bad teacher! Doesnt give back the hw, and the tests are all about the hw. So if you study what you put and it's wrong theres nothing you can do about it. Cares about Money, Not Teaching!
Took his online class and it was the hardest class I've ever taken! Maybe because it was 100% online but the organization of the class was terrible. Whenever you ask questions to the assistants or the professor you never get a straight answer. And the textbooks are both written by him and are not cheap. I suggest not taking this class online.
Please rethink taking this class with him! Way too much work and stress will be involved!
This class is really not that hard, I'm not sure why everyone is rating it so poorly. If you do the assigned reading and homework you can get an A. I got an A and I did all the reading and homeworks and journals the day of the exam. It is a lot of work for an intro level class but its not impossible. Read the syllibus before you ask questions.
For someone that hates PSCI, he made learning the subject even worse. 1st test was str8 from the wrkbk, after that I'm not sure where he was getting his questions from. Most of the time was used for current topic discussions (unrelated to test material), hardly ever talked about assigned material. I drop'd & took Dr.Drew's PSCI 180 class(A+)
I would like to first say that I am a returning student who is back in school after 20 years. Professor Coaty's class was absolutely fascinating. I have learned more basic information I can actually use from his teaching than all the political science classes I had taken previously. His books are interesting and very well written.
One of the best professors at OCC. However, you must read and do the homework. It's not an easy "A", but if you study and do the required assignments, it will be one of your favorite classes. Plus you will have a better understanding of what is being discussed when you hear news regarding politics and government. Only slackers dislike this class.
Insightful, enjoyable class. He is a bit unclear on how to do things because he expects students to take care of themselves. This isn't high school civics, its COLLEGE polsci. Never went to class but managed to get a C overall. Got an A on the paper thats required and I wrote it the morning it was due. Tests are way easy, taken from the hw
Very smart person, cares about what he's teaching. Yes, this course requires reading, because it's college. All the jokes about JR. college being high school with ashtrays aside: This is college, albeit the very beginnings. Get used to it. Our educational system is pathetic but Dr. Coaty is a bright light in an intellectually dim world.
I took his class online. There is a lot of reading and homework. I didn't mind the work because it was truly educational. The only difficult part I found were the tests.I found his questions to be a bit vague at times. He will ask the same questions on the test as on the homework but will never clarify the correct answers before the tests.
Professor Coaty is a great teacher. The class is very simple and he doesn't ask for much but that you pay attention. He has a lot of interesting things to say. Very smart man. Take his class! It's not difficult but super interesting.

Worst teacher you will ever have. Taking class online. Does not care to answer emails for assistance, but instead responds with rude and unnecessary replies that try to belittle the student. I understand that this is a large class and he does not have time to help everyone. But no need to try to embarrass them. Trust me, dont take this class.
Discussions and homework were time consuming. He wasn't helpful with tests as online students could see which problems they got wrong. Frustrated but as long as you have prior info on the subject you'll pass.
I agree that this class is an extension of his own ego. The situation with the books is ridiculous. On top of the price, the books are horrible. Bad grammar galore! Terrible intros and conclusions, irritating repetition of phrases, generally unclear subject matter. Not getting the homework back really effects your ability to get an A on the final.
The class was relatively easy, but I hated his lectures. I had to make myself zone out the entire time because I couldn't stand his ego and opinions that he refers to as factual. Memorize the study guide questions and you should do well on most of the tests.
Taking this class online. He wrote his own books for the class & obviously he doesn't have a degree in English. These books are at a 6th grade reading level, w/ lots of typos. The h/w is 6th grade too. This online class will be easy for you if you don't get stressed out and you're good at figuring things out on your own b/c he doesn't explain much!
this guy is a joke he is full of himself and unhelpful. he says that his power point slide are his own intellectual property so they cannot be downloaded. hahaha like anyone really cares about his ideas!! he doesn't even try to answer your emails. he doesn't provide you with deadline or dates for quizs. my class had to bug him for weeks for this
While in college students will come across professors that they don't like. This is inevitable. Key to this class and passing..avoid waiting to the last minute to complete assignments. read is overpriced text book..and pay attention to the random comments in his text..took an exam that didn't cover what I had studied for! except his jokes!
Ill break it down easy. Tests are NOT hard. complete the review ?s @ the end of each chapt. & ull be fine. 1 essay from a book he assigns u to read, 5 pages. Its an okay essay. he doesnt really teach much, he talks more about current events. An A is possible, B might be the average grade.
Coaty is alright. Pretty funny, but kind of a jerk! I got a 79.8 overall in his class and he gave me a C. If you do all of the reading and reviews at the end of the chapters, the tests are very manageable though. Overall, not a very difficult class, just don't get lazy!
He's really a very knowledgeable guy and his class isn't that difficult, however it's not very clear either. He doesn't explain things well and don't expect to get any help with your questions on course content. Read the book, do the paper, do the homework questions and you'll be fine.
Dr. Coaty uses a lot of class time talking about current events. He keeps the class up to date, but isn't very clear about what he wants. You must read the book & keep up with the end-of-the-chapter assignments. The questions on the tests are super confusing and worded weirdly, but you do have to also keep up with the 2nd textbook.
Poor class. Over priced text books that he wrote, poorly. The books are like reading a series of high school level 5 paragraph essays. Tests are OK. Must study the book and don't expect the lectures to help any, all he talks about is current events. The paper topic is ridiculous. Grading scale is almost incomprehensible. Overall poor instructor.

I found Professor Coaty to be of little help when I asked for it. My impression of him is that because it's his class, he has all the power, and he wants you to feel it. He is vague when you ask for specifics, and I found him unreasonable.
Coaty is an uncaring, rude, useless, egotistical teacher. He never answers your questions directly, his syllabus hasnt been updated for this semester, he doesnt return the answers to your homework, & he gives you no direction for the class. Im not a fan of PSCI & his class strengthened my hatred. Don't even consider this teacher, you'll regret it.
The questions that you are unsure of for the end of the chapter questions will forever remain unanswered. Always take notes on the video despite the fact that every light in the classroom has been turned off. If you want to take PLSCI because it is an awesome subject, PLEASE PLEASE take someone else and save yourself!

THE WORST CLASS EVER - DO NOT TAKE. I took this online and it was poorly run. His textbook was written by a 6th grader. I imagine he loves his subject, but Dr. Coaty should not be a professor. He would not change incorrectly marked answers on my test, saying I should "worry about the concepts for the final". DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
He asks students to read a lot from the required expensive books he had written himself. Weekly journals have to be extended and thorough to get full credit. As of now those books are outdated, provided info. in texts are of at least 7 years ago. Homework questions are on tests but not corrected. Test questions are misspelled and unclear.
He is nowhere near as conservative as the OCC student body is liberal. He spends most of class talking on current issues in the country, but all tests are based on the book. You have to read the book, poorly written as it may be.
Patrick Coaty is truly the worst teacher I have ever had. He doesn't teach you anything but instead refers to his "textbook" which reads like a compilation of 7th grader's thesis'. Truly, do not take this class unless you are looking for a way to lose interest in political science.
Professoer Coaty is one of best college professors. Of course he was a little challenging,but made class interesting. Test all based from the HOMEWORK, mostly true/false. Also, has random HW pick ups in class. Make sure you do ALL hw and printed out before class. Just one long essay due. If you do that and all hw, youll pass with an A/B easily.
GREAT CLASS, GREAT PROFESSOR. Here's the bottom line... Coaty knows what he is talking about; sure he requires you to purchase his own books, but WHO CARES! This made the class easier b/c I always knew how to pass with a great grade. He is VERY interesting. No class notes needed, just read and do the journals to pass. =)
the first 2 exams were manageable (based from the HW at the end of each chapter) but the 3rd and the final were really hard. not really easy class especially if you are an international student.
5 unit workload for 3 unit class. There are 6 essays and 4 exams. The first 2 exams are based on the hw, which made them easy enough to study for, but the 3rd exams and final are mostly random questions from any topic anywhere in his books with no study guide. This makes them very difficult to prepare for. I strongly suggest taking someone else.
His exams were ridiculous. Do not take his class. He expects you to know the whole context of both two textbooks and doesn't even give you a study guide or tell you what to focus on.
I took this during summer, big mistake. 2 books are mandatory for the class and both written by him and include extensive grammar and spelling errors as well as opinionated conclusions. He expected us to read a 600 page book and write a 5pg essay on it all in 3 weeks. His questions are confusing and he includes things that we haven't covered yet.

This class is a pretty tough class if you take it with coaty. He isn't clear or specific about what he expects on assignments. For tests, he throws in questions from future chapters that haven't even been lectured on. Overall, I probably would have picked a different teacher had I known the type of professor he was.
Dr. Coaty was way i mean way better than the last American Govt. teacher i had, I retook this class with him and was content. I ended up with a B, because i did all the hw, did the journals and the oaper . If you do all these, then you most likely get a fair grade in the vlass.
Good prof, difficult class. Took summer class. Had to study at least 2 hours a night. Test questions came from: Text, in class lec's and videos. Later tests were also from the War on terror. Those were hard questions, he didnt know one question from his own test about bin laden. Nevertheless, got an A, and learned a lot about our government.
It's the first week of class and I already hate it. It's an online class but your homework can only be submitted in the following ways. Option one is to hand it in to him personally during his office hours on campus. The second is, wait for it, SNAIL MAIL. Is this guy freaking kidding?? The last option is to scan it and submit it as an attachment.
Journals suck for this class, unrelated and require more research then actually taught. Tests arent too bad. get's a lot from the hw. Lots of reading. Expects two books for the class and one of them you have to read at home on your own, you don't mention it the endtire semester until the Exit paper you must have to pass the class is on the book...
One of the worst teachers I've ever taken. Makes you buy the books he writes and they have to be new, claims he makes no profit on it and has his opinion on politics all over the books. Wikipedia is better than his lectures.

Horrible instructor for gen eds, gives handout articles that add up to about 250 extra pages of not easy to read material. Questions on tests are not clear and often overlaps possible answers yet only one can be right. Gives a review day for final that only lasted 10 minutes and pretty much ended class as fast as he could. Start pop.33/ current 14
Hands down worst professor I've had in my entire life. He doesn't talk about ANYTHING relating to the tests. He justs stands up at the front of the class and talks about Iran for 80% of the class, and then squeezes in an hour and a half of info in 20 min. Seriously biggest waste of my money ever. DONT TAKE HIM
The WORST History Prof. I have ever taken. In order to get a C (maybe a B, most likely not A), not only you have to read the textbook, but also multiple articles and boring PBS videos. I love history, but he made it NOT interesting AT ALL! I'm pretty sure nobody has an A on his class, because of his complicated lecture. Do not take him for history!
Absolutely disgusted with this man. Hands down the most vague, pretentious, arrogant, misleading, and another person put it perfectly- UNNECESSARILY DIFFICULT PROFESSOR EVER. A sad, sad little man. It seems as though I'm not alone in the fact that this past semester was absolutely horrible with this professor. I took it online and honestly learned nothing because of absolute confusion all semester long. He was never even a part of interacting with us. Drops your lowest midterm. First midterm was right out of the textbook. Second and third midterms required additional knowledge of american gov't and history b/c many questions were not covered in the textbook & being new to the US, I found it really challenging. Project paper was relatively easy. Extra credit adds 5% to your grade.
There's no study guide, so questions on midterms and final are far left field; midterms have such irrelevant questions from our homework, so that seems a bit idiotic. No interaction with students, and I still haven't gotten a response for my grade even though the semester is over. Horrible professor.
I disliked this class very much. Don't expect any sort of clarity, rhyme, or reason in this class. I really don't know how I got an A, I got C's on most of the tests, including the final. I guess that's a positive side of this class, it is very passable. It's just also extremely frustrating.
Pretty interesting class but professor can go off topic. Material on the midterms are from the textbooks but some questions are taken from future chapters. Never got higher than a C on any of the tests, but ended up with an A because he curves the class. Journals and essays are pretty easy but time consuming.
There are two books; one we do homework in and one for the 5 page paper that is worth almost half the grade; the one for homework has 13 chapters one chapter per week multiple choice questions. The test are super hard and there is no study guide. Three papers for extra credit. If you do everything plus the extra credit you will get an A.

Worst run class I have ever taken. No consistency, the syllabus says one thing and he says the complete opposite. Due dates on the syllabus changed with no announcement to an earlier date and no response when submission box is not available. Conflicting instructions on the term paper. Gives wrong answers to homework from the book he wrote.

Tips: You need both books to pass. Read the chapters the night before the test to refresh your memory. The lecture notes are vague bullet-points. Do all of the HW! He gets most HW Q's from quizlet (dot) com. Google the chapter name and study! [You're welcome] Some test questions were total BS. I did all the EC and got an A instead of a B. Good luck
I was terrified to take Prof Coaty after reading reviews. PoliSci really isn't my subject and to hear that I was stuck w a horrible teacher?! UGH! Turns out, Prof Coaty was fantastic! There's a lot of reading and it's definitely time consuming. However, if you put in the time, it'll be worth it. He was nice, funny and very approachable!
This course requires a lot of reading and you must understand the material in order to pass the tests. There is an essay which is 25% of your grade. I did not do well on one of my tests and still received and A in the class.
Does not even help. Gives you all answers to assignments. Just try your best on the assignments because it does not matter. You get full credit just turning in the assignment. He relies on his course assistant to do all the work. The class is ridiculous. Easy class to pass.
Took the online version of this class, so maybe that's why my experience was different. this was the MOST poorly organized, unclear, unnecessarily difficult class I have EVER taken. Rarely gave a clear answer to questions on assignments, tests or textbook content. The HW had inaccurate historical datesinfo. Gave an incorrect syllabus. AVOID!!
Definitely do not take the online version of his class. I never met him in person, so I can not really grade his teaching style. But I can say that he has no control what so ever of his online classes, his syllabus and class schedule conflict, his assistants are obviously too overwhelmed with the large classes that you as a student will suffer.

By all means, try to avoid this incredibly disorganized and extremely frustrating class. You don't even have to try on homework, he simply gives you credit by submitting it. He doesn't know how to keep his students up with the correct dates, his TA's aren't helpful, and the professor doesn't even give a care about his students. Don't take him.
If you're looking for a teacher who won't shift dates on assignments, don't take him. If you want a teacher who actually collects and looks at the homework he assigns, don't take him. If you want a professor who will lecture about current events 90% of the time and stuff on the test the other 10%, he's your guy. He IS interesting though.

Homework is a great study guide for a good majority of his tests. The final is pretty hard, but just make sure you do the reading. I enjoyed his class and sense of humor. He doesn't play favorites and doesn't take any bs.
When first attending class, I was skeptical on how well I would do to pass the class as I had heard from previous reviews that he can be a pain to take. However, I find that it was not really all that bad as you really just have to do the homework to really understand the material on the tests and the final. Plus, his lectures are informative.
Looking to discuss current events? He's your man. And will do so knowledgably. But needs to be more exciting when discussing what we are there for. Seems like all he does is read his book or throw a boring film up for that. He is VERY neutral when discussing current politics which, to me, is rare and commendable.
Avoid his online class if possible! I am usually one for doing well in online classes as I prefer independent studying, but being successful in this class is almost impossible. 3 midterms, final as well as a 5 page paper. Most of the questions on his tests were not from the book and I still lost points for answers I knew I answered correctly!

The worst class I have taken at OCC. The only issue that bothered me was the timeline for assignments as it constantly changed and assignments (FINAL) was removed early. He really does not answer your questions.
Disorganized and all over the place... Was very difficulty to follow all semester and never knew if I was passing or failing based on his grading of weekly homework (easy), mid terms (harder), final (100 M.C. & TF) & paper (read a 175 page book on write on a vague topic...) A little to disorganized for me, but he does know his material.
Throughout the whole semester, I was not able to know how my grade was for the class. He is not very clear about whats on every test including the final. There are 3 Midterms and 1 Final tests with no quizzes. There are about 10 homework assignment come from the text book. I WOULD NOT TAKE PROFESSOR COATY'S AGAIN!!!
Patrick Coaty is a very smart man with a lot of experience in politics. We would spend half the class talking about current events that were never on the tests and ISIS was constantly brought up every class. His lectors are interesting if you like politics. However, they can get boring at times. Also, He has a good sense of humor which is a plus.
Audio in lectures contain lots of noise, can't hear him. This will give you a headache. His 2 books are mandatory and very opinionated. 5 page essay, it's easy. Lots of videos to watch. About the only good thing offered by him is the extra credit. Doesn't like being emailed and seems disorganized. I'm very disappointed. Stay away from online course
Dr. Coaty knows exactly what hes talking about but should NOT be a teacher. Hes very disorganized, all over the place, and most of his lecture discussion is not relevant to his tests. If you can learn only from reading, hes the one for you. IF your like me and need different kinds of teaching techniques, DO NOT TAKE HIM. I would not recommend him.

So everyone bags on him, but honestly if you just do your homework, those same questions will be on the test. He is very concise and if you just do the homework and make a study guide like how he suggests by using the table of contents, you're golden. The essay is also no problem if you use your time wisely and start ahead of time. Worth the class.

Please. Don't. Take. His. Online. Class. This professor is VERY confusing when it comes to deadlines and discussion boards. He changed deadlines all the time and doesn't change the syllabus to match. Half of the time, I have no idea what is going on with this class. The lectures are extremely boring and hard to engage with.

Many people are saying this teacher is horrible, but honestly it is not hard to keep up with the work and read the chapters. He has extended multiple deadlines and people still complain. Just do the work and be ready for the exams, it is just like any other class. you have to put in work and effort to succeed.
I took this class for my GEDs. He is the worst professor I've ever seen. Don't bother and think to take this class with him.

Omg... his online class was a hot mess. This professor needs to leave teaching alone. He has no sense of teaching an online class or communicating with his students. Don't take this class unless you want more stress in your life. Don't bother emailing him because he never responds, he always ignores students and their opinion.
This teacher is not badly all. people are just making him sound bad, he's actually pretty awesome, and a good teacher and really helpful. Don't listen to all these angry students.
I wouldn't recommend him He rambles on about nonsense throughout the whole semester. No homework, but there's A LOT of reading. Grade is based on 3 midterms, a 5 page paper and the final exam. I really didn't learn very much. Also he said he doesn't curve the grade, but I think he did because I got a B and I had a D the whole semester.
Do not take his online class! Also his choice of text involves memorizing the opinions about American government of other people, rather than memorizing facts about American government. You must memorize EVERYTHING. He messed up in the beginning of the semester and then was not clear about what he wanted for the rest. He does not check his email.
Professor Coaty knows what he is talking about. He talks about world issues that are currently effecting us as a nation. He is an Air Force vet who carries himself like one. He is a respectable man that will teach you what you need to know about the government. He gives out free points with the homework. If you get it wrong, it ok u still get credi
He is a pretty outspoken guy. It was a little intimidating to participate, but honestly, he's spitting some truth in his lectures. They really motivated me, who was once apathetic about today's gov, to see it in a new light. He means well, and its not that hard to finesse the "studying" with google.
At first you'll be too scared he'll make you feel stupid if you ask him for help outside of class, but he's really a super nice guy and cares for his students. 3 MTs (drops lowest), paper & EC are generously graded (do both), a quiz or two, & final. Studying for MT/final was very tedious, pay attention to quotes are specific details/laws
I literally fell asleep in almost every class and still got a B. The homework is really easy and most of the content on the exams are based on the homework. He talks about current events and real world stuff for the first half of class and students are welcome to join in and have group discussion. He made a, in my opinion, boring subject not so bad
Tests are hard and lectures are long. He doesn't even use a PowerPoint. Just stands at his podium and talks about whatever comes to his mind
Really gets the class involved and makes you speak and listens to all students. You learn a lot, make sure to study!

Professor Coaty goes completely off topic during lectures. He offers extra credit and drops one midterm. I struggled the entire semester but ended with an A. If you take this class, do the EC, show up to class, and write a good essay. BEST ADVICE: just take american government at GWC, you're welcome
Dr Coaty is a top notch professor. He is straight laced and extremely intelligent. If you want to learn, and find out interesting facts along the way I recommend him. The take home tests were not hard if you take notes and go to class. People that complain about him are just lazy and shouldn't be in college cause they don't care about learning.
Dr Coaty was by far the easiest class i took at OCC. If you just do the work it will be easy. He drops one midterm and his midterms are multiple choice. He did go off topic a lot but it was all very intellectual stuff.
i am filling this out without knowing my final grade i do not care, because this professor is so passionate in giving his students the tools they need to be successful in life. now excuse me while i study for the final.
Dr. Coaty is smart and likes to talk about the readings in class. Class is easy if you pay attention and do the readings. Visit him during office hours. He loves it!!!
He gives out take-home mid-terms so I don't anyone should be complaining. Grading certain is a little messy so beware. Overall he's awesome you will learn a lot from just sitting in his lectures... don't fall asleep tho he'll call you out big time.
Prof. Coaty is very knowledgable in this field and you can tell from the way he talks. Hes a smart guy, but very strict especially if you fall asleep or he catches you on your phone. Your grade depends on if you actually listen to his lectures and read the essays in the class book (which are very heavy and complex). Also, 5 page essay. Yikes.
I honestly don't know this professor has so many bad ratings on here. His lectures are informative, in my opinion very relevant to what is occuring in the government and political social aspects, and he's funny. The main objective of the class is to learn information that is truly applicable, which means really listening and paying attention.

Class is Really sleepy and boring. There are 2 multiple choices take home exams, 1 in class. You have to write 5 pages paper, and a multiple choices final. Test materials are based on the book, which you have to read by yourself. His lecture doesnt cover most of the exam questions. If you are a second language learner, highly not recommended.
He is an enigma, this class was incredibly easy. He also had us buy a textbook and read it, but then his lectures had nothing to do with it, even contradictory to the text. He is very steadfast in his views which is fine, as long as you agree, he does not allow opposing viewpoints and is very bad about questions, lectures are very scatterbrained.
No slides, no test review. Just him talking at you for the whole class. He expresses his own opinions very often (which isn't bad), but is patronizing when opposed/questioned. The average grade on the midterm was a D but he curved generously. Tests are based mainly off of a book of essays of peoples opinions on politics.
As a political science major, Coaty failed to foster a greater enthusiasm for the field. He made it clear from the first day he wouldn't entertain opposing viewpoints. Routinely showing up and paying attention is not too necessary as his exam questions came almost solely from the book, which his lectures only distantly related to. Easy but useless.
Terrible choice. 10/10 wouldn't take again.
Honestly, when I read his reviews on this app, I was terrified. I took him over summer (6 week course) and yes the exams were a little on the more difficult side but it wasn't too bad tbh. I probs spent about 4 hrs max a week and I would do above average on his exams even though I'd get B's. He curved at the end and I ended up getting an A.
I took Prof. Coaty's 6-week American Gov. online class. His lectures helped a lil, but reading the text was the only way to have average score of 70%. The final was an essay which I got an A on. As long as you read the text to understand the functions and main points, you're good. The average class score was so bad so he curved at the end.
Worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. His lectures are extremely boring & hard to engage in. Your grade is based on tests & a final essay which HAS to be 6 pages. I wrote 5 and half pages and got a 0. Tried talking to the ladies at the front & they told me not to bother. Retook class with a different professor & got an A. DONT TAKE HIM
You have to buy books that he wrote and use them to write an essay explaining why we had to go to war in Iraq. Anyone who knows anything about politics knows that we didn't. You won't learn anything useful about American Government in this class.
He teaches as if all the students were law students and as if everyone was an american citizen, his teaching license should be revoked or go teach at the higher classes. occ should let him go
Professor Coaty is really philosophical, which can make things confusing at times. He is, however, super kind and responds to all students. Very respectful and is passionate about what he is teaching.
No assignments outside of 3 exams, 1 final, 1 paper & gives an opportunity for extra credit. Low workload class and lectures can be watched on your time but difficult to understand and you must write down every word he says for the exams. Exams were difficult, worded weirdly, and heavily textbook reliant. Optional class and possible to get an A.
This professor was honestly really bad. The tests were not based on what was taught, and the textbook was just a compilation of political essays which you had to basically analyze for the tests. A lot of the questions were kind of opinion based and the essay prompt was really vague. I already hate government classes, and this class didn't help.
It was a full online class without meetings, so I can only talk about my experience. It was planned out that made everything easy to follow.
The only assignments we have are 4 exams and 1 paper that your grade is based on. But, he grades them with low points (for example, a 100 question exam for 30 points) and doesnt assign other assignments to help you out. Also, with the online option, he stands in front of a white board from anywhere to 30 minutes to 2 hours just talking. Boring.
He's a nice guy and really isn't that bad at all. Yes, the exams are worth little points and 50 questions, but they were fairly easy. He ended up making any grade 75% or higher an A. He messed up some people's grades at the end accidentally but it ended up getting fixed. The essay prompt was pretty confusing but he was very lenient with grading.
This class was awful for me. There is no assignments, no textbook and he was not very responsive to emails. It can be easy because his grades are curved and less work. BUT his instructions aren't clear, you read these long history readings and only take 4 tests and a paper for a grade. The lowest exam gets dropped but the class is unorganized.
This Professor truly does not care about YOU or how you are doing in his class. He provides no help, rude replies, and believes that students are lazy, when he himself is LAZIER. Throughout this semester he has replied to emails very late, poorly, or just doesn't. He grades super late and test are so confusing. PASS THIS PROFESSOR and find another

Awful teacher, do not take him. Please for the love of god don't take any of his courses. Lectures have NOTHING to do with the tests, and he just rambles on about politics the whole time. Waste of my life. Awful grader as well, everybody failed, so he just changed the grade curve to making everyone pass. Should be fired.
Lectures don't have anything to do with what he assigns us to read. He can ramble on for three hours without making a single point. Will purposely word things to sound smarter but it just becomes confusing and redundant. Notice how the only positive reviews are about how he has a huge grading curve, not bc he is a good teacher. Miserable class.

I took Professor Coaty online so I can't really speak on his lectures but he barely interacted with the class. His tests are okay but the 5 page essay is brutal. He's a super hard grader and mean and I wouldn't suggest taking him. Should''ve listened to my counselor. He gave 3 midterms and a final worth 1,000 points. Essay worth 500 points.
As you can see from other people's ratings about this class might as well avoid or drop the class LISTEN TO YOUR COUNSELORS. This professor did not grades the end of the semester of the extra credit. I have never failed a class before, he never emailed back and did not give me that extra time for my DSPS recommendation. You can't complain of him because he has been there for 10 years. I do not recommend him at all. take this class somewhere else but not with him.
This was easily the worst professor I've ever had. He's blatant racism and sexism was out of control. I've tried going to the head of the department but he is under a tenure. He only has 3 exams and 1 essay which he doesn't even grade until the very end of the semester. He doesn't take the time to even learn names or lecture correctly. RUN!
Overall, he is so good. Easy test and paper, but the credits of final exam(1000) and final paper(500) is huge, so it is risky. (mid term: 200) However, If you just submit the assignments, you will get a good grade. Thank you!
Professor Coaty's lectures can be philosophical and confusing, but he's passionate and respectful. The tests are challenging, but using unstuckstudy ai and the textbook can help prep.
He stated he only states facts, yet, the whole semester was him stating his personal opinion. He often made racist, sexist comments and was very confident in the fact that he is tenured and joked about not being able to be reported successfully due to that fact. If you have a chance to take it with another professor or even another school, do it.
Absolutely a great professor who cares about what he teaches. The class work isn't difficult and he cuts right to the point within his lectures. You will really learn something in his class if you put in the effort. Also want to point out that he grades the exams and paper usually next day.
Tbh all the people complaining r just lazy. This was the easier class I've ever taken and I'm not even a super good student. Really caring teacher. Make sure u do good on tests tho bc they are weighed very heavy!!!

Getting an A is easy but the class was insufferable. Says he won't talk about politics but says the most boomer things every class. Complained that the only protestors for Palestine are teenage girls then later said the only reason to protest is to get laid. Brags about getting tiktok banned and says its all Chinese propaganda and viruses.
I never write ratings but I had to because this was the easiest online course ever. There's 3 midterms (with no lockdown browsers) and the lowest score of the 3 midterms get dropped. Then there's one long essay but he also has extra credit if you really want/need it. Best class ever, I'm glad I didn't listen to the other ratings.
Dr Coaty is clearly an expert on his topic, but this felt more like a preLaw class than American Govt. The class is easy to do well in if you hunker down for the few (unproctored) exams, but there is absolutely zero engagement with the professor. He communicates in Announcements with comments turned off. Crazy long essay graded complete/incomplete
It was interesting listening to his lectures however I can tell that his viewpoints are in the lecture. He is bias to his ideals which may make some people uncomfortable. There are exams and 1 final essay paper. To me this class was my wheelhouse. Overall just pay attention to the lectures and do the readings!
Just stay on top of the work, you'll be fine lenient grader.
