great teacher. gets side-tracked alot, but it's usually pretty funny. makes one read alot, but picks good material.

Likes to talk off subject, but relates it to the topic in some way. Very helpful if you get behind, or confused. Willing to help if you need it. HIGHLY recommend this teacher!!!

Cool teacher. Does get side track often and likes current events. I took him for three english classes because he has a very relaxed way of teaching.

I didn't want to take this class, but Costello made the class fun. He talks off subject but relates it to what he's teaching. The class interesting and if I have to take another Eng class, I'd try to take him. He's fun, helpful and relaxed. Will help you if you get behind.

Pat Costello is AWESOME! He is very approachable and helpful. He's got a great sense of humor, too. I highly recommend him.

Costello is an open teacher. He spends little time on grammer and more time on relating writing assignments to one another. I have tried 3 ENGL prof. at RCTC and he is, by far, the best out of the 3. You still must apply yourself and continue to work on each paper, if you put this effort in, you will not be dissapointed, Read outside of class!!

he is a very relaxed teacher and is very open to pretty much anything. he takes the time to make sure you understand everything!!! VERY AWSOME TEACHER WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN IF I COULD!!

Awesome teacher! My favorite at RCTC! Fun class. Down to earth guy. There is a lot of reading but its very enjoyable reads. Tests are easy if you pay attention to the books.

Great teacher! Will answer any and all questions, and says hi to his classmates if he sees them in the hall. Stay on top of your homework, and do well on the tests you will get a good grade!!

I had him for Fall 2008 sem. He is very laidback & nice. There weren't that many assignments when it comes to writing papers. A lot of times he would just talk about things that are going on it the world, not all English stuff. There wasn't really any "lectures." He is not geeky or anything. He is really cool. I would definitely recommend him!

Great teacher. One of my favorites I have ever had. There is a lot of reading and quizzes after the readings but the readings are all excellent. TAKE THIS TEACHER! You will not regret it!

Costello is a good teacher, and he can relate to anyone. I was freaked out about taking english because I didn't do well in high school and needless to say, without much effort I got an A.

Costello's a nice guy. His class is easy, but you must show up because he does a lot of quizzes on the reading, which you can receive an easy A on if you read the assigned material. Other than that there are a few papers on the books you read, not very difficult and for every single one he pushed back the due date. Nice teacher, easy A.

Costello is a nice guy. Fun personality, easy-going. When discussing the reading assignments afterwards, it does get side-tracked, but to stuff that really makes you think and overall learn without realizing it. He's very helpful when editing papers, and the class is really easy as long as you do the assignments and show up.

I went to WSU for one year, and now RCTC for a semester, and he is the best teacher I've had. He leads interesting discussions and the readings are mostly good. After you turn your papers in, he tells you what to do to get a better grade, so if you listen, it's not that hard. Lots of reading and quizzes, but it's a good class.

Great class overall. Four main papers are due throughout the class. He reads over everyones' first drafts which is very helpful because you get an insight to what he wants from your paper. Actually gives you some class time to work on papers (or to leave early...haha). Nice guy, but will not reply to emails for some frustrating reason. Recommend!!

He is intelligent and friendly. Often gets sidetracked, but I didn't mind it. Gives a lot of readings of different lengths and genres - many of them are pretty interesting. Highly recommended if you don't want to spend time covering grammar - he expects you to know all of this kind of stuff coming in and won't teach it. A little disorganized.

I personally found him to be a great teacher. A lot of the younger students (PSEO) didn't get what he was saying most of the time, but then again they were young and more interested in prom dress talk. He was helpful, goes off topic on occassion but keeps the class interesting. Grades papers pretty hard, but never received anything lower than A.

This class was so interesting to me I looked forward to it. The discussions are always interesting and thought-provoking. If you read the texts he gives you you will learn a lot about yourself. He's great at feedback for papers and if you show interest in the subject he will show interest in you.

Pat is a great teacher. He did get off topic a lot but he made class fun. We always had things to read the previous day but then we had a long discussion on them the next day so you understood everything. I never received anything lower than a b on papers. You should really take him! You won't regret it!

It's been 4-5 years since I took Costello's classes, and I'm beginning to realize that I credit my interest in reading to him. He got me interested in short stories and discussing them. He is such an amazing guy. Yes he gets side-tracked, but he's always fun to listen to and is super nice.

Make sure to read the pages he tells you to read, usually there's always a summary of some sorts. He does not do powerpoints for notes it's more of he talks and the important stuff jot down. It's an opinion based class make sure to talk...

Just an overall great guy. Very engaging lectures and discussions, everyone in the class can and should get involved. The assigned readings were, I thought, quite interesting and well chosen, and he gives great feedback on papers. Would highly recommend taking him!

This teacher is very helpful and is very easy to talk to. He was very helpful to me during summer semester. It was a tough one. There was a lot of homework but it allowed me to learn a lot about myself as a person. He was more helpful to me than my student advisor.

Super easy grader, expect easy assignments where you will read a short story and maybe have a quiz on it, but that's about it. Likes to have class discussions. Classes were fun and surprisingly interesting. Would totally take any class of his in the future.

Mr. Costello is a very interesting, nice, down to earth guy. Laid back. He gives good advice on how you can make your papers better. Slow grader is the only negative thing I have to say about him. I would take him again if I had the opportunity.

Be prepared to read almost every night, but articles are usually interesting and easy to follow. He also really likes class participation, and lectures are usually just talking as a group about various topics.

His class is pretty easy. There is a reading at least every week and in the beginning there was a quiz for the readings. No many papers in his class just a few. The longest paper he assigned was a minimum of 4 pages.

Was honestly one of the greatest teachers I've ever had, definitely recommend! Makes class genuinely interesting.

He was a great teacher. He was involved. The class was very engaging. I usually don't pay attention in class, but his class just spoke to me and I listened to him more than any other teacher. He has some pop quizzes, but they are easy, just read the story and you'll get an A on the quizzes. Some papers, but he is very understanding.

He's an amazing teacher! He's super funny and is a really good guy. He makes learning so easy and is super, super, super helpful!!

I think he's the best English teacher out there as far as charisma and easiness. You won't be disappointed!

I am a PSEO student and I loved Costello. I took 1117 and 1118 with him. The only homework is reading short stories and preparing for in class essays. I really learned a lot from this class, but it was an easy A. Costello is easy to talk to and wants you to learn something (but doesn't assign pointless readings/homework). Highly recommend!!!

Best professor I've ever had

The course provides many different interesting readings, and during class time, those readings are discussed. Class discussions make up the entirety of the semester, although, some tests, quizzes, and papers are thrown into the mix as well. The course can become very monotonous, but Patrick is a great, flexible teacher who makes English exciting.

One of 2 great English teachers at RCTC. He's a fare grader. gives you the expectations and is also willing to hear feedback from students in terms of what you read in his class.

He is good teacher. You read short readings quite a bit but they are not hard. There are usually little quizzes on the readings but they are not hard if you did the reading. Overall, pretty easy class.

Professor Costello is one of the best English teachers I have ever had. His lectures are entertaining, and he gives really good feedback. I highly recommend taking this professor for either ENGL 1117 or 1118.

Professor Costello is very nice and easy-going. The class had very few readings and quizzes but did have a few papers. Papers were not too lengthy and were definitely do-able. Would 10/10 recommend if you want a good teacher that will give feedback to help you become a better writer overall.

Easily one of the most memorable professors I have ever had. Super understanding, super accomodating. I have never had a better professor at RCTC, and he is clearly well-respected by past and current students alike. I would take both English 1117 and 1118 again if it meant he could be my prof again. Truly the best- the ratings don't lie!!!

This guy is easily the best English teacher I've had. Although there are multiple papers, he does not grade them very harshly and is extremely considerate. He is also relatively funny and relatable. Not a very hard class either, just make sure to complete the writing assignments.

Patrick is awesome, kind person and great teacher. There is not a lot of teachers like him. As an international student, where English is my second language, I highly recommend him. I wish more professors would be like him.

I took a couple classes with him around a decade ago. Stellar educator; taking his classes help gave me the confidence to go on to a 4-year college, and now I'm halfway through grad school.

Nicest professor Ive ever met. Super chill and understanding. Always tries to relate the topic we are on to real world situations which makes class enjoyable and interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed his class. decent amount of reading but If you stay caught up on it youll do fine! Usually class is just a discussion, very open to everyones ideas.

Patrick Costello is by far the best english professor at RCTC. He wants to see his students succeed and he is always open to helping. Before any big paper he makes sure to give very clear directions and overall this was the best class I've taken.

He was so nice and its so easy to pass his class . He made sure everyone understood what was going on and he also accepted late work if you had a reason.

I Literally love him! One of the best professors at this school. He's very understanding and will help in any way he can. He will also allows late work, if you have a valid reason. He doesn't want you to fail just as much as you! I'm now taking him for 1118 !

Honestly one of the best professors I've had. He is incredibly understanding and cares about his students. I had him last semester, and I had a family emergency involving my little sister. He always asked how she was doing and if I was okay,which means more to me than anything. I highly recommend him. Thank you, Mr. Costello.

One of the chillest and laid-back teachers I've ever had. He's so nice and just yaps for the whole class. The assignments are easy, and he is very laid back on the grading. Overall great teacher. 10/10
