Patrick was great TA! He always went the extra mile to make sure that all of the students understood the material and was helpful outside of class too. I recommend him to anyone.
PATRICK IS SOOOO GORGEOUS! He's a genius too! HE know's sooo much about biology! I never liked biology before byt now i can't wait for lab! I think i will change my major from comunications to Microbiology just because of Patrick. And he's in no way a weiner.
Patrick explains things very clearly and he is very patient with questions.
I have no clue where negative comment below came from. I have him this semester too and he was great. I got an A in the class and hardly EVER studied. He goes ABOVE AND BEYOND to help you and really gives some easy points. He will do whatever he has to to help you and explains things pretty clearly. He is very approachable and very nice.
Great teacher!!
Patrick is the best! He is always so helpful and entertaining! The class itself covers a lot of material but tests are fair. He keeps you engaged and makes you want to learn! I loved having him for lab and would definitely take another class from him! Take him if you can, he is great! :)
Funny, nice approachable
He is the best Teacher a student could ever have!!!
Patrick's a very good lab teacher. His jokes are very dorky, but he teaches a Microbioly class so I guess that goes with the territory. He's very clear and concise.
Patrick is... quirky but he is lots of fun and very helpful. Once you finish the day's work he lets you leave which can be a half hour early sometimes. His office door is always open (literally) and if you just take the initiative to ask he will help. The only pain is the HW assignments, but if you don't get them just ASK. Study for the tests!
very unfair. lecture was helpful. missed couple of quiz beacause register let for the class.i could not make the quizes. I had a different ta at the downtown campus her name is julian vittal. don't take her got a D in the class. all the lecture was written by patrick but jullian was teaching it. dum ta
Patrick is a great teacher, he explains things really well and makes you want to learn. Just make sure you get him and not one of his ta's. He is very approachable and helpful. For the practicals just study his powerpoints, forget the lab manual.
The worst professor I have ever had!! Very unfair with his grading, plays favorites to some students and is only lenient to those students he chooses to. His homework and test questions are so vague, but expects a specific answer, which is rather confusing. I will not advise that anyone take this class under him. Instead take lisenbee, but if you g
The worst teacher! I will never take a class of his again
He is a terrible teacher! He tells his students one thing and does another..Wouldn't advise anyone take his class. Take Lisenbee the REAL Microbiology professor, but if you get stuck with him GOOD LUCK!!
Horrible at teaching the material. Unfair with his assignments and grading. Never would take his class again. If I knew that he wasn't a real professor and just a TA I wouldn't have paid so much money for the class!! Wasted time and money!
He is a useless TA wanna be professor who sucks! He's doesn't know how to teach the subject, but is passionate about it. However just because you are passionate about a subject doesn't mean you can teach it well. I advise anyone that has to take Micro in the future to take Lisenbee!
I wouldn't advise anyone take his class. I just learned that he is a TA and this summer was the first time teaching without being under a real professor, Lisenbee, which if I knew this before registering for this class, I wouldn't have taken it. He doesn't know how to teach! And I don't pay a crap load of money to be taught by a fellow colleague.
HORRIBLE teacher!!! Avoid his classes if you can..
I agree with the others..He is not good at teaching and didn't learn a thing in his class. Won't ever take his class again.
I typically give GREAT reviews but s guy is not fit for teaching. His grading is unfair and his lectures are pointless. I got better grades NOT going to lecture then giong to them bcause he gives outuch extra useless material. He tries too hard to be funny. He tries to cover the low test grades by giving extra credit so he doesnt look bad. ugh!
Master Daydif is not a T.A. and I don't know why the issues with the other raters, but Daydif is a great micro instructor. He has tons of energy and makes the subject interesting and fun. Daydif reminded me of how much I really do love the micro world.
Not a very good teacher at all. Very unfair when grading assignments, fill in the blank tests looking for very specific answers to broad questions. No partial credit given either. Definitely plays favorites and does not teach material effectively. Glad to be out of his class, will never take from him again. Tries very hard to be funny.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I HAVE NEVER COMPLAINED ABOUT ANY TEACHER UNTIL NOW! HIS TEACHING SKILLS CAN USE A LOT OF WORK AND HE IS EXTREMELY UNHELPFUL AND UNFAIR WHEN IT COMES TO HIS GRADING. HE DOESNT WORK WITH HIS STUDENTS TO HELP THEM SUCCEED BECAUSE HE HAS A CARELESS ATTITUDE. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE!
i would never take his class again, TERRIBLE teacher with hardly any skills. he assigns A LOT of hw in lab (20+ data sheets per week, term paper, presentations) but keep in mind lab is only worth 1 credit! but in lecture he hardly gives out assignments to earn extra points, its all based on 4 exam scores. I DONT RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER TO ANYONE!
Choose another professor. His grading system is unfair and flawed. Grade consists of 4 exams(100 pts each)+ 100 pts. in class quizzes. It's a class where your "little" in class quizzes can screw you up in the end. They weigh as much as each of your tests. Quizzes are tricky too. No extra credit. I got A's on all the tests, went to class, got a B+.
Worst teacher ever. Doesn't work with students and usually will laugh at us whenever we have a question. I have him for lab too and that is probably the only time he helps. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS or LAB with him. He is a very poor professor and ASU should get rid of him.
I don't know why he is rated so poorly. His tests are challenging but he is thorough and answers all questions (he is also funny and keeps the class entertained). Coming to class is important only grades are exams and clicker questions. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about microbio. I would definitely take another class with him.
The class was interesting, but challenging. If you attended every class, pay attention, review notes and study... you will do well. His tests are a bit challenging and a few tricky questions, but overall fair. I worked hard for my grade in this class, so def not an easy A.
Patrick was the best professor I have ever had. He goes out of his way to answer students questions and explains things multiple times until it is understood. People say he isn't fair but that's not true. He isn't lenient. Your grade is what you earned he doesn't hand you an A. I learned so much in this class and I will take another class with him!
This is not an easy class but you can do well. The material for the exams is from the class notes, which are posted online. The final can replace a test so you can overcome a bad test. Attend class everyday to get clicker points. And he makes an effort to keep the class interesting.
He is super nice funny guy. This class isn't that hard. Just put the right amount of work into it. I will probably get a B, but did very little throughout the semester.
HARDEST CLASS EVER. Your grade is based entirely off exams and the exams are extremely difficult. There's no straight up questions, all application and things he kind of just expects you to know. When it comes to the cumulative final, he literally expects you to know EVERYTHING. Avoid his class at all costs. It's a GPA ruiner and a stress inducer.
He is a terrible teacher and should not be able teach any classes. He makes class mandatory by using clickers, even though the class is completely useless. You could probably get a better grade just reading the book. His lectures are straight off powerpoint and rarely have anything to do with what is on the test.
Unorganized laboratory. IA never had anything ready. the grading was harsh for such a simple class. If you don't have what he wants for an answer on your HW but the Textbook says you are right...no, your wrong. Does not round a 79.8%(C+) no curve. The funny thing is I actually really liked Micro outside of the stress of his grading scheme
I don't understand why people say he isn't helpful. I went to office hours several times and that helped me tremendously. Funny lectures, tests not difficult, final is easy! Definitely recommend him
Patrick is the best professor I've had in my four yrs of being at ASU. He's very helpful and energetic. If you have questions he'll take the time to stop explain and answer. Test are not hard IF YOU STUDY. Would I take another class with him? Absolutely.
He's awesome, definitely take a class with him. Super easy grading. The guy totally doesn't suck.
Worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. He makes you feel dumb when you ask a question, and if you are not one of the people getting A's he thinks your stupid. He needs to come up with a better learning strategy for the students who struggle, because just reading off PowerPoints doesn't help. STAY FAR AWAY FROM HIM.
Daydif was an okay professor. His exams were not easy but not super hard either. You just got to be able to take what you learn from his lectures and apply it to application questions on his exams. Lab would be my only complaint...Beware of lab, grading is super strict and grades were always posted LATE.
He is really good at keeping the class interesting and he is very helpful. The test are pretty hard though, I had to study A LOT!!!
I was dreading Micro before the start of the semester but Prof Daydif showed us it's actually very interesting. He's entertaining, kind and while the class isn't easy his exams mirror his notes a lot. If you put time into the course there is no reason that you can't do well. He's an excellent instructor and makes it easy to pay attention.
Just study off the lecture notes, and you'll be fine. Tests don't require reading the book.
Very enthusiastic, hysterical, and brilliant professor...but don't push his buttons. Lab safety/attendance is big with him. Don't underestimate his exams. Study ppt slides and you're set. Several lab data sheets, homework, pre-labs, four lab quizzes, presentation, research paper, in-class assignments, 4 lecture exams and the final IS cumulative.
He can be funny and likes to lighten things up in during class. However its hard to pass the class bc the overall grade is based on pretty much 4 exams. no hw to boost your grade. When you go to his office hours with concerns about your overall grade or test score, hes insensitive and not encouraging. I wish i took this class wa diff professor
This was by far the worst professor I've ever had in my life. He doesn't care about his students and your grade is completely based off of your performance on 4 exams. I will be retaking this class with another professor next semester and now can't apply for the nursing program in February.
I waited an hour to talk to him during office hours and was no help. He can be ridiculous funny, but not the best teacher. 4 tests that make up your overall grade. If you can take this class with somebody else.
This class is definitely doable. Make sure to show up to each class and pay attention because there are lecture quizzes that are, in total, as important on your grade as an exam. I didn't use the textbook. Study the lecture slides and you'll be good. He even has the important stuff in a different color.
The worst teacher I have had at ASU. I am a sophomore and have a 4.0 GPA but received a D in the class. He is not helpful AT ALL, when I asked for help studying for the tests he said "just withdraw from the class." I could go on all day but he is absolutely horrible. AVOID HIM!!! He ruined my GPA and future in nursing.
Avoid this class if possible! If you need to take MIC 205, take Lisenbee instead. Daydif is not very helpful. Even with studying, his tests were extremely challenging. I received a D with Daydif, retook the class with Lisenbee and received a B.
Honestly, this is one of the most straightforward science classes you can take at ASU. I only needed the book occasionally to go over the concepts that confused me a little, but Professor Daydif's power points is all you really need to study for the exams. Professor Daydif is also very eager to help and answer any questions that you may have.
Daydif was an okay teacher. He definitely loved his job and often acted out or told stories to help remember the information. Sometimes I really liked this class and other times I thought it was super boring. Clicker questions happen almost every class and they add up to equal the same amount of points as a test at the end of the semester.
Had to study a LOT for this class. 4 exams, the last one being the final and clicker questions for 100 points. Resurrection final saved my butt. Ask him questions during office hours about topics you don't understand before exams. This helped me a lot. Study powerpoints for exams. Read the book only when I didn't understand some things on ppt.
Professor Daydif is one of my favorite instructors I have ever had. The class is hard, by far the hardest I have ever taken. I barely passed it with a 70% but with that being said, I would have FAILED if it wasn't for Professor Daydif. He truly wants every student to pass. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. If you have questions, ASK. Also, he's so funny.
The worst teacher I have had at ASU. I have gotten A's in every single one of my science classes in college, but got a D with him. He's NO HELP!! Just reads off the slides, tests are impossible, and spends way too much time making lame jokes. I even went in for office hours. Still waiting for the day when he gets fired. HE IS THE WORST!!!!!!!!!!
By far the worst professor I have ever had. He started off the semester by first being degrading towards women and insulting to those that did not perform well on the first exam. I have taken many science classes before him and have received an A in them all. For example anatomy 201 and 202, why then can one not get an A here. Class average D+
I enjoyed this class and thought he was a good teacher. It is a tough subject so expect to study. Patrick is a good teacher, he opened class the first week telling us to call him Patrick because he doesn't want to act like he is better than us by making us call him Dr Daydif. There are clicker questions but some are just attendance ones.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Reads off the slides and has some ridiculous test questions.
I got an A in BIO181 and decided to take BIO182 because I was interested in furthering my interests. Biggest mistake I made was taking it with this professor. Lectures are a waste of time, as they are taken directly from the book. The tests are a poor reflection of the course material, and questions are highly ambiguous. Studying was ineffective.
I took BIO 182 this past semester and had a very poor experience all across the board. I head Daydif usually teaches MIC 205. I hope that he is better there because he read straight off the slides and made me fall asleep. I gained more inspiration from my book than from him. Stopped going to class. Best thing I've ever done. I got a B.
Be careful for the lab section, some of the IAs are terrible. They don't know what they are talking about. Have a 3.9 GPA and ended up with my very first C in a class in my life here. He reads off of the slides, and is SO boring. Terrible terrible class, I think he is a lot better when he teaches micro, but for general bio, skip it!
I took MIC 205 and 206 over the summer with Daydif. Awesome teacher and very helpful. Don't be afraid to asks questions, he has no problem answering them. The test are a mix of straight forward questions and application. Read the lecture notes to study. I recommend taking this over the summer! Less material at a somewhat faster pace.
You will not do well in the class with out being there. 20% of your grade is attendance. Unless you get 100% on all exams (impossible) you wont get higher than 80% without attending his BORING lectures. Nice, and funny guy though!
Patrick is a great professor! Makes it easy to understand information and is very clear sbout what he tests on. Grade is composed of 4 exams and some clicker points so go to lecture and listen and you should be fine on his exams!
HEs pretty cool, sometimes lectures get boring but its all straight forward. not too difficult! just go to the lab and use the clicker cause you can loose alot of points with that.
I hate reading honestly and in this class its all about reading. If you dont understand stuff your pretty much screwed on the exams. 4 exams worth 100 points and 100 points (clicker points). You have to go to class to get clicker points. Tests were super hard.. 40-50 questions.
His lectures are long & he moves very quickly not allowing enough time to take notes. Entire grade is based off of 4 exams and clicker questions. you must also be a good test taker to pass as that is a majority of your grade& go to class. if you try to explain why you are seeking help he threatens to report you for violating code of conduct
Tries to make absolutely mandatory lectures interesting, but completely fails to do so with lame jokes and horrible explanations. Treats students like they should know what he's talking about, but still manages to be condescending. Labs are just as useless and are practically a mockery of genuine procedural science. Waste of my time.
He is really passionate about microbiology. I really enjoyed this class. He tells a lot of dad jokes, but if you are willing to learn the way that he teaches you, it's easy enough to follow along. The tests are application problems, make sure you really understand what you're learning. He is super helpful at office hours.
4 exams including the final which replaces your lowest test score. Go to class because he gives clicker questions and EVERY POINT COUNTS. Daydif tends to go through the material pretty fast making it almost impossible to write notes. He posts his lectures after every chapter.
Dr. Daydif is really chill and makes micro interesting. Lectures can get boring but pay attention no matter what, every point counts (400 points in exams, 100 clicker) The labs are super easy and fun, just study really hard for practicals. Got As on everything except final I got a C, my grade was an 89%, he was nice and bumped it. Just show you try
Don't sit in the front. He does distracting things with his toes and hands while lecturing. Nice guy and very excited about material. Do all the clicker quizzes! They will come back to haunt you if you don't. All power points are online. Study them!!! I suggest flashcards because it's a lot of material.
It was hard work, but a good class
His power points last 3 seconds on display, so it's almost impossible to take notes. He does not care if you can't afford a "clicker", so make sure you get one immediately, he won't accept work on paper- not even if its the first class. Also, 10% of what is on his power points MIGHT be on the exam. So, make sure to listen to his lectures.
Mr. Daydiff is a very clear lecturer, and he is frequently available to answer questions and explain difficult concepts. The book was not very helpful in MIC 205 (lecture), but Mr. Daydiff provides extremely useful power point lecture notes. Although he is often behind in grading, he is willing to spend ample time assisting students with material.
Microbiology is not an easy course but Prof. Daydif really knows his stuff. It's a molecular science course... you're going to have to study. Daydif uses fun examples to help you remember things and makes it very clear what's expected. 4 exams. In class quizzes on clickers every day. Sometimes he gives extra credit depending upon attendance.
This is a hard class, but that is to be expected. I dedicated a lot of time to succeed. Going to class is important to receive clicker points. If you don't go to class you miss out on side notes that pop up on the test. Never used the text book. If you work hard, it is manageable.
Lectures are boring, most people sleep. He tries to tell jokes, but they are far from being funny and make the class worse. Labs are the biggest waste of time and do not correlate with lectures. At the end there is a debate for which you are required to write a 6 page paper. The debate was the most unorganized thing I've ever experienced.
Pay attention in class, take good notes, study and you will do well. It is tough material but Dr. Daydif is EXTREMELY clear during lectures and will answer as many questions as the class has before each class. Exams are straight forward - everything on the exam is straight from lecture slides. Clickers at the beginning of each class so be on time.
He's a really good lecturer, makes the material relate-able for students. I took it over the summer and he mainly described the material in terms of healthcare related aspects. I guess if you have a general interest in microbiology you'll do just fine without the book. SHOW UP TO CLASS!
Interesting lab, he explained things clearly and answered questions. The lab felt a little rushed, but it is to be expected from a summer class.
He has interesting lectures but you must attend class because he always has clicker quizzes that you cant make up. Dont buy/rent the book cause you can pass all the tests with his PowerPoints that he uses in class and he later posts on blackboard
Lectures take a lot of time and you have to be there with your clicker to get credit. Pretty easy as long as you pay attention and take notes.
He's passionate about what he teaches and made it relatable to us. I enjoyed his class and definitely would take him again. Everything you need to know, he provides on his power points. He requires a clicker so its easy points for attendance and answering his mini quizzes after each section. The debate wasn't too bad. No book required. No HW.
Heavily relies on clicker points and exams as the only source of grading. No curves or anything. Questions are application based so there's no use memorizing certain things as his questions are tricky and make you really think.
Daydif will make you work for your grade. This is a pass or fail class. If you are a nursing student or trying to get into ASU's nursing school you must study extremely hard and ask questions. You must have a clicker, there is clicker questions EVERY CLASS so make sure to go or you will not pass. Overall, He is a great professor!
Class is 4 exams and clicker points. Clickers used every lecture and he will ask lots of clicker questions, give you less than 10 seconds to answer, and only some of them will count towards grade. Tries to be funny & use examples, but ends up getting off topic for too long so he wastes lots of lecture time & makes you stay until the last minute.
His lectures are very long and wordy. He tries to come up with analogies but sometimes it doesn't make sense. You're only graded off of his exams and clicker questions.
Studied days for his exams and still never did good. Clicker questions everyday at the start of class, DO NOT MISS. Was lucky enough at the end of the semester to get a B since he dropped some clicker questions.
Daydif was great! He posts his lecture slides and test questions come directly from those. You will never use the textbook. You'll need to workkkk for your grade but this is a great class where you actually learn the concepts and content not just memorize, which is great if you're applying for nursing/PA/Medical school. Endless dad jokes lol.
Daydif is awesome! You can tell hes truly interested in the profession & his lectures show it! Hes pretty funny, lots of dad jokes. Tries to use analogies & visual cues to remember concepts- it works! Exams are difficult, take good notes and study them & youll be fine. Ask questions! Lots of clicker questions! Go to office hours- he will help you
Textbook not needed. Course graded on clicker questions and 4 exams. All material is from the slides, so take detailed notes and study hard. He is very passionate about micro, uses stories and analogies as explanations, and explains concepts well. Ask questions during class! Have your clicker EVERY CLASS OR YOU WILL MISS SIGNIFICANT POINTS.
Show up to lecture, has in class quizzes which are a huge part of your grade. Labs are fairly easy. Study for exams by reading the chapters and slides. Will throw jokes often. Don't pack up early he hates that. 6, 1 page debates at the end of the semester, easy A if you put in the effort in showing up to all lectures, will go fast so come prepared
The hardest class I have ever taken. Only four tests and in-class quizzes make up the whole class. If you dont study for hours for the tests you will not do well. Lecture notes do not correspond with the tests, and questions are worded very weirdly. So glad to be done with that class, bye daydiff
Extremely passionate about Microbiology. He definitely uses a ton of analogies to convey various concepts to his class. Although I got an A, he will make you work for your grade. 80% of your grade comes from 4 exams (20% a test), while the last 20% comes from clicker points. No point in buying textbook. Tests tend to be conceptual. DO NOT CRAM.
I took MIC205 w/ Daydif last semester & was not a fan of his class. The class is broken down into 500 points. 400 points for tests & the other 100 for in class clicker questions. There is no homework but if you miss class you shouldn't expect a good grade. I usually love science classes but I found it hard to pay attention in this class.
He is a highly entertaining lecturer and an effective communicator. His tests are straight forward. If you take the time to study and ask questions you will undoubtedly do well.
Daydif is great at teaching and I do not mind his stories that he occasionally has but.. the thing I disliked the most was that his notes were not placed until the whole chapter was done. Quizzes are mainly everyday at the beginning of class. Grades only on quizzes/exams. Leaves little to know room to show you know material if you have test anxiety
This class is pretty hard. Every prof I ever had used clicker questions for participation as long as your in class you get the points but he actually grades on correctness. & lecture ppts are posted only after the class. Only points in the class are clicker questions and 4 exams. he moves from slide to slide fast too so it's hard to take notes.
Hardest class I ever took, but learned a lot. 4 exams x 100 pts each and 100 clicker questions. Lecture slides not posted till after the chapters. He lectures quickly but with plenty of real life application stories. The first B I've gotten since 6th grade. RIP my 4.0. MIC 206 super easy lab though.
Interesting class. Pay attention and take good notes, the clicker questions are straight from the lecture. Lab is fun and interesting. Read the book if you want to do well on tests, not necessary but it helped me. Easy class if you pay attention and do the readings.
Professor Daydif is an amazing professor, he made me love biology even more!
Honestly, Daydif is probably one of my favorite professors. His lectures are interesting and he gives a lot of real-life examples to make the material easier to learn. He easily made Biology one of my favorite classes at ASU. Make sure to go over the slides on powerpoint and be sure to record his lectures to make studying easier.
I was super nervous to take this class because of the reviews, but he is honestly my favorite professor so far! He's very smart and knows what he's talking about, and his tests do require you to pay a lot of attention in class. I love his lectures because he always keeps you awake and engaged. Take him for micro for sure!!
Go to class, quizzes count for a lot. I would definitely record his lectures!
Professor Daydif was one of my favorite professors so far. Although the class was tough due to abundance of information, it was very rewarding. Your grade mainly is comprised of 4 test and clicker point questions so go to every class. Get the book and take the time to fill out the in chapter section summary and end of chapter questions!
daydif was THE BEST professor i have ever had at ASU. this class is hard but he is amazing during office hours and takes the time to make sure you understand. he never makes you feel stupid for asking questions and is always available to help. his lectures are wicked interesting and hes also quite funny. you wont regret taking this class, hes great
This professor is by far the worse Ive ever had. He will read lecture slides and tell you to study them and then the test will be on a completely different thing. I highly recommend avoiding this professor at all costs. He is so unapproachable and will not hesitate to make fun of you in class. I will never take one of his courses again.
-Daydif is an amazing professor. -Questions on exam come straight from the power points. -Do not need the textbook unless you want to use it as a reference. -All multiple choice exams. Final is NOT cumulative. -Show up to lectures because he explains difficult concepts really well. -Exams make up a big portion of grades.
The material for the first two exams can feel a little dry, but after that the class is very interesting and enjoyable. Ignore the powerpoint during lecture, just type what he is saying. Many of the exam questions end up being from his verbal lecture. Fill in your notes after class and memorize + understand. Difficult class but very rewarding.
TEERRRIBLLEEEE DONT TAKE.
I've tried emailing him for help multiple times and he takes forever to answer, and when he finally does he avoids answering what I asked. He doesn't seem to care about his students, and I feel like he does things to make learning more difficult. Our grade is based on 4 exams and GRADED clicker questions used for "attendance". Avoid him PLEASE
Daydif is a VERY tough teacher I memorized every slide before the tests and still was not able to get above a 70%. I'm not sure where he gets the info from, but he specifically told us not to get the book. Clicker questions are for correctness and 100 points out of 500, the other 400 are the exams. No other assignments so work your butt off or fail
I feel as if the good reviews on here were getting paid to say that, because honestly this was hands down the worst professor I have ever encountered. I am a straight A/B student and yet I found his teaching dumb. He makes content way harder than needed as if you're becoming a deep deep microbiologists. Should've listened to the reviews. DONT TAKE!
I thought I was going to hate this class but I feel like Daydif made his lectures interesting and they definitely kept my attention even though the material is not that exciting. Clicker quizzes and tests are the only thing that make up your grade so make sure you do not miss the quizzes and study hard for the tests.
Grades are based off of 4 exams and a bunch of clicker quizzes in class. 80% exams, 20% quizzes. He doesn't post lecture notes until after the chapter is over. I thought his lectures were fun and felt that I understood topics until I take the exam. Super unaccommodating and threatened to tell the Dean if students ask for a better final grade.
MIC205-all based on 100 clicker questions, 4exams, clicker points are tough (he goes fast during class clicker points, essentially pop quizzes, 5-10 questions) MIC206-easy lab, 2 practicals, homework (prelab & packets), 1000 total points, different data sheet needs to be brought every class extra points were given (28 extra credit for each class)
I really enjoyed Daydif's class, but I worked VERY hard for my A. There was a TON of content to cover for this class. I studied with a friend most nights of the week by quizzing one another on our notes. NOT an easy A, but his tests are consistent with his lectures, so if you study hard, it is possible to do well.
Provides little to no comprehensible knowledge of low level microbiology class. Online labs are difficult to understand, failing to give background information necessary to solve the problem. You have to guess in order to get half of the questions correct. I am a 3.6 GPA student and have never received a C until now. Grades like its a PhD thesis.
Cons: Provides WAY too many assignments which are impossible to complete as most of the questions aren't in the textbook, or in any lectures/videos he posts. Also be prepared to cancel weekend plans, he posts LONG assignments on Friday and makes them due on Sunday. Pro: This is a lab; so who cares if you get a C it won't affect your GPA.
Pretty much absent from his online summer class. Has only hosted/ attended 2-3 zoom session in 3-4 weeks of class. TA is the real teacher, all prof does is fail to reply to emails and use all of his free time to NOT grade his MANY weekly assignments.
He's a really rough professor. I feel like his material would be better learned if it was in person; but since we're doing everything online, his lectures really suffer. It's hard to retain information and his explanations don't really help much. This was one of the classes that made me want to change my majors.
Was expecting a lot more from this professor. His lectures on zoom are unbearable. He goes way too fast and you don't even have time to process it. Even with COVID, he assigns difficult quizzes and is not understanding at all. He gives no mercy for whatever reason and continues to overwork his students. Don't recommend taking him. Hated this class.
My mental health worsened because of daydiff. Even tho the class was hard, daydiff made it completely miserable. He does not care about his students and their grades. He assigns difficult quizzes and gives no care for whatever his students are going through right now during covid. Got a bad grade bc of daydiff. I regret taking him for this class
Daydif is by far one of the worst professors I've had. He is really passive aggressive and, doesn't cut his online students any slack, and gets annoyed by our questions during lecture. The labs were bad too because we didn't have any work graded until midterms and by then it was too late to do anything to raise them. I recommend any other professor
this class was the worst thing ever. we didn't have to go in person for lab but they gave us assignments as if we were in the lab. way too hard and they grade the assignments really harshly. I get marked off 50% of the points on assignments I thought I knew how to do. If you want to become depressed then take this class. -63671834/10 recommend
Super interactive and energetic professor. Makes lecture more fun and enjoyable and easier to understand! I recommend taking him
I do not normally leave reviews but this "professor" was the most arrogant and difficult one I have ever had. Although he is very energetic about what he teaches, he does not have any respect for his student's questions or time. His lectures only cover a surface knowledge of what is needed to excel at the exam. Find someone else, anyone.
DO NOT TAKE MIC LAB W DAYDIF. The lab is so unorganized, misleading, and not informative at ALL. This is a 1 credit class, and it occupied most of my time. They expect us to complete 4 post labs every week + projects/papers/quizzes with little to no instruction. My lowest grade of the semester as a full time Nursing Major. I dreaded this class.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Take Christopher Penton on Poly campus for MIC 205 and Tempe or Poly for 206. Worst lab I have ever taken by far. So unorganized, half of the questions on the post labs the IAs can't answer and you have to find most of the information on your own. It's a 1 credit class and you have to spend 10-15 hrs/week on it only to get a B
This professor is by far the WORST Ive had. His 206 lab is a complete mess and absolutely disorganized. Each week we had 3-4 post labs which are graded so harshly especially for his IAs not teaching us a single thing that correlated with the homework. His 205 lectures are confusing, his exams dont reflect anything taught in class or in notes. SAD
Daydif is a very good teacher, however, if you aren't respectful he will call you out on it. Learning online was hard, but his exam questions come straight from the book, so read it. He is a very good lecturer and is very enthusiastic about the material. However, the lab is hard, especially online. Overall, a good professor.
The material you learn in class seems easy, however, the post labs are terrible. Maybe 2/10 questions are from the ppts and you are legit just guessing on the rest. I'm a straight A student and was getting B's/C's on the post labs. But quizzes/midterm/final wasn't as bad, I usually got A or B. Gave 30pts extra credit in the end tho. Don't buy book!
1) Record lectures-helpful for tests and provides great examples 2)Pop quizzes are sometimes during class and over weekends- monitor Canvas everyday cause he won't tell you when there's a quiz 3) Takes FOREVER to grade tests/quizzes and doesn't release answers 4) 20pts extra credit quiz at end 5) Never used the book 6) Good teacher, but hard class
Took this during pandemic and I found it very hard to learn online. I hated doing labs online, it felt pointless. How the class was set up just didnt work for me I guess. No study guides for exams and we had a unit exam and final on the same day :/.
The curriculum is what it is; however, Mr. Daydriks ability to foster a supportive and effective student environment is something else. He speaks to the class with the cadence of a 1st-grade teacher, rudely complies with student questions, all while at the same time managing to waste 20 minutes of every lecture with unrelated filler sentences.
I had in A's in all my other classes except this one. On the last day we had a unit test & final on the same day. Tests were so hard w/ no study guide & he didn't make them, another teacher did. The class average was always either a D or low C. Try to take another teacher. Labs help your grade but tests basically determine your grade
Maybe this class would be better in person, but he expects way too much out of the labs, to the point where there's no way we would have time to finish it with our group during class time. It's also definitely a bit too fast-paced and sometimes he'll assign labs before he's even gone over the material in lecture.
Weird timing on the dues for assignments causes confusions, some due 8:30 pm some due 12pm, he has trust issues on his students, doesnt give much time on the exams too, 40 questions in 50 minutes makes me finished in rushes everytime. Poor communication with students after class too, ignoring emails and etc. His ta is good tho
In my opinion, he was not a good professor for my type of learning style. I had to take this class online due to COVID, and I'm more of an in person learner. He doesn't make study guides, little to no opportunities to improve grade, and waits until after lecture to post notes. Hopefully he'll be a better professor for whoever's taking him in person
I have never been so disrespected by a professor. He was rude and condescending every time a student asked a question as if we were already supposed to know the material being taught. Lab is way too much work and graded really weird. Blamed students for medical absences. I took a chance on daydif with so many poor reviews. THEY WERE RIGHT!!! avoid
This class was horrible.. The labs were sometimes way too long to be able to finish in class (one took me almost 4 hours) and they are due at 8:30pm on the same day, with no extensions allowed, even if someone has work or other obligations. Inconsiderate professor. It's the last week of class and 6 grades still aren't in yet.
Be ready to read the book and study a lot! He is a great professor! It is just hard because your grade is basically all tests, but it is possible to do good if you work hard!
I had Daydif for lab, took lecture with Quaranta on West campus, so glad I did, heard Daydif was really difficult for lecture. The post-labs are a piece of work because IAs not allowed to help you and never know if all answers are correct for sure, graded harshly. Lab doesn't fully prepare you for post-labs. Two practicals, easy.
The content for this class is difficult as it is and Daydif didn't do the best job at preparing us for exams. I would go to lecture and read the textbook and still do poorly. Aside from exams he assigns quizzes but they barely affect your grade at all! So if you do bad on even 1 exam it is hard to make a comeback.
When you first meet him, he comes off as a silly person and he seems sweet. Soon after the beginning of the semester, you learn that he does not mess around. Throughout the entire class, he makes you take notes and he won't wait for you. His homework is graded on accuracy and his exams are on things he most likely won't cover in class.
Although the class is very test-heavy, Daydif has a GIFT for explaining difficult concepts and teaching them. He's very energetic and enthusiastic, and I've enjoyed all of his lectures. I won't sugarcoat that the material itself is very difficult, so I would recommend paying attention in class and studying!
People have been harsh with Daydif on this page, and due to that, I was worried at the start. My advice is to not panic. Four exams make up 80% of your grade. They aren't too bad. I got an 88% without studying once. The other 20% of your grade is clicker questions and online quizzes. He offers 20 pts. ex credit at the end, but its 20/20, not 20/0.
If ur passion is anything microbio related & ur a good test taker go for it, take him. Prof. Daydif is a nice person but I honestly had a hard time with his grading style. Lecture is out of 500 points (400 from exams, 100 from lecture tasks). It's a tough class, just go in with the mindset that you can do it, don't overstress urself. best wishes!
very challenging class, attendance is not mandatory, but you will miss points if you do not show up. extremely test heavy, like 80% of your grade so make sure to study a lot. he does give extra credit at the end but not much, but the course is definitely doable, he really makes you work for it. hated him at first but grown to like him.
Very test heavy class. Reading the textbook is helpful but definitely not necessary. He is very intimidating but that is from face value, really caring and engaging teacher and lecturer. Definitely go to office hours for help, make your presence known when going to office hours. Total of 2 extra credit assignments, you get the code for it in class.
Professor Daydif is an amazing teacher. I'm honestly surprised that he's rated so low. The content can be difficult, but if you actually put in the effort, you will do fine. He offers extra credit and some buffer assignments, but exam scores make up the most of your grade. I've learned so much from him, and I've been so impacted by his teaching.
Exams are tough
I am surprised Professor Daydif is rated so low. Micro ended up quickly becoming my favorite class this semester. The content is challenging but Professor Daydif makes it very clear to understand. He is very passionate about what he teaches keeps students engaged throughout lecture. Make sure to take notes and attend every lecture!!
Very enthusiastic and helpful. He does move quickly through the lecture slides so be sure to review them after class too. He is energetic and makes it obvious that he wants you to understand and succeed. You do have to understand that as it as a hard class, you need to put in high effort to do well.
Read from powerpoint for all lectures, tests don't reflect what he lectured on. Hard to even get full points for in class iclicker assignments, he marks off a few points at random with no explanation. Does not provide study guides. Does in class practice quizzes but you only have access to the questions for a few brief moments before he closes it.
I really did enjoy Professor Daydif's lectures, but this class is very hard for a 100 level. Your attendance is mandatory as there are pop quizzes often. The exams for this class are difficult. You should do fairly ok on the exams if you take good notes and pay attention in class. I really did enjoy Professor Daydif.. the class itself is just hard.
I would never ever recommend this class to anyone. Tests are so hard and heavily content based. Attendance is taken during lecture (on which he lectures the entire class) and if you miss there are no videos or supplemental materials to get what you missed. Overall horrible class and professor. If you can take at another campus DO IT!!!
Daydif sucks and he is a horrible teacher. I personally don't suggest anyone ever takes him. He absolutely sucks and he does not cover anything that is on the test. He has a god complex. Do not recommend it.
out of the many irritating aspects of this class, the most frustrating was the fact that you could attend every lecture, take notes on every slide, and read every page of the textbook but still be tested on material that wasn't covered in class. don't be late because every day starts with a clicker question. no lab make-ups, no exceptions
Not many assignments for 205 but a lot for 206. Amazing lecturer, class never felt boring and he was very descriptive on what to expect for exams. I struggled a bit with the content so I found the course difficult but he answers questions when you need clarification very well.
ok professor, very passionate and intelligent, lectures have a lot of content, uses iclicker so attendence is basically mandatory if u want those points, small hw assigments before each test but are very relevant (iclicker questions are also relevant to test), those r the only things I studied and got solid c's on each test. tests r multiple choice
Awful professor of you could chose another professor please do and save yourself the trouble
Professor Daydif is a great professor. I was hesitant in taking him because of reviews here, but he's really good. It is lecture heavy so don't sleep in class. He's straight forward with the material he's giving us. He uses analogies that makes sense like sparky babies for cell multiplication. He is also a daydilf if you want inspiration in class.
Professor Daydif's class is very engaging and informational. Attending lectures and staying awake during lectures is important because he talks about some information that are not on the slides. He'll repeat important pieces until you can't forget it, so I find that really helpful #StructureEqualsFunction!
Despite the hard class he is possibly the best lecturer I have ever had. Ask questions. You are graded on very few things so do every assignment. No extra credit and no + or -, grades are based on point ranges. Assignments are due in the morning not at 11:59 so be wary. Tests are tricky so put in the effort to really study. Speak up if you're lost.
Daydiff is really interested in the material he is teaching and it shows. His lectures were always entertaining. His exams are based on his PowerPoints and are multiple choice. As long as you attended class it was easy to understand. He uses iClicker for attendance and for points in the gradebook.
This class is challenging regardless of the professor, but I really enjoyed this course. Definitely is lecture heavy. The only assignments graded are the four exams plus one homework assignment per exam. I recommend studying a lot for this course. Daydiff was very engaging and entertaining during his lectures.
Professor Daydif can be a tough professor. He genuinely is great though. His class contains such valuable information and you can tell he wants his students to understand and learn the material. I came out with a better understanding of microbiology and confidence in what I had done to succeed.
Professor Daydif was a great professor! The material is challenging but he explains it thoroughly. Pay attention and take notes on the slides, attend lectures even though it is not mandatory. He has random open note quizzes while in class, they don't weigh much, but towards the end of the semester, they come in clutch. Go to office hours.
Daydif was a pretty good professor and seems like a great person overall! There is definitely a lot of information thrown at you quickly for it being a 100-level class, but all the slides are posted which helps. Attendance is important because the online clicker questions are worth points. The in-person labs were easy though!
I don't understand why Professor Daydif is rated so low! Yes, the class is difficult (what else can you expect from microbio), but Professor Daydif takes so much time in class explaining hard concepts and answering any and all questions he is given. It is evident that he wants his students to do well. Show up to class, study, and you will do great!
He knows his stuff but he expects you to understand everything immediately. After giving lecture he does IClicker activities to test knowledge which are graded. I study material beforehand but the IClicker activities SHOULDN'T be graded. Also missing even one day of lecture causes you to lose those points, even if you are sick or have an emergency.
Daydif has been an amazing professor in MIC 205. Like any other science class, attending lectures will save your life. Boost up on those iClicker points, show up, do the online homework (which comes before any exam in his class), and you should be fine! Plus, Daydif makes jokes during class and it always makes the vibe great!
Professor Daydif did not make any effort to help students in the MIC 206 lab sections. He allowed IAs to grade unfairly resulting in a clear difference in overall grade averages. If you can, avoid taking classes under his instruction and take the MIC 206 lab in Tempe.
As far as the lab portion for MIC206 is concerned, it feels like a separate course, with minimal overlap with lecture. Your grade for lab will largely depend on your participation, doing your data sheets, and three big HW assignments plus two practicals. Attend office hours for help, communicate with your tablemates, and talk to your IA.
Amazing professor who genuinely cares about the content he's teaching, often will tell jokes or give real world examples to help students further understand concepts. Most engaging lectures I've had which is vital considering the challenging material. Very minimal HW so grades really depend on the 4 exam scores. Study, read his powerpoints for help
Prof Daydif has a great personality which is reflected in his lectures. Attendance is mandatory because he uses iClicker to ask questions throughout his lectures. There are 4 multiple choice exams which can be easy if you study for them well. I recommend rewriting his posted lecture notes on paper and reading the textbook for further elaboration.
Be sure to attend every lecture! It is the only way to pass: Ask questions in lecture! Visit his office hours for one-on-one help. He is extremely funny, his exams are difficult if you do not prepare for them. He wants you to pass, so please put in the work, and you will be successful. Do not believe all these bad reviews. He was great!
I wouldn't take him if I were you, I saw all these comments about him and was happy to take him but I was disappointed. The exams were really hard, and most of them are not even related what we learned in class. He also does iclicker which is a big portion of your grade, you get one wrong your grade will go down.
205 - iclicker questions in lectures. very hard exams. don't get let out early often. lectures are boring and difficult to sit through. he tries but it doesn't work. no quizzes. few points to get graded by. 206 - prelabs usually easy, homework assignments are time consuming, lab usually ends early. 2 practicals, not too bad (easier than lecture)
hes tough, dont do it. tests are hard. take it at tempe or poly
I didnt take him this previous semester but I come back here every now and then to warn students signing up for classes to pick a different professor. he makes you feel stupid when asking questions. exams are so so hard. for exams I studied everyday for 2-3 weeks prior to all of them yet still failed. took somewhere else and got an A+ DONT TAKE!!!!
Amazing, took his BIO 181 class during the fall 2023 semester. Overall, the course is very well-structured and the exams were fairly easy. The key is to go over the lecture notes he provides and pay attention to any examples meant to enhance your understanding of the concepts taught. The exams mainly contain general ideas seen in the lecture notes.
Exams are really hard, even if you study weeks before exam they are still hard somehow.
Professor Daydif's class is challenging, but engaging. The lectures are informative, and he makes an effort to explain complex topics. Attending class, studying the textbook, and using resources like unstuck study for prep can really help. Overall, it's a tough but rewarding course.
I liked his teaching but the exams are what did it for me. I clicker quizzes, easy if you pay attention. A lot of his exam questions have 2 similar answers that will leave you 2nd guessing your choice. Just pay attention in class and only write what he talks about. For studying, just re-read notes and get feedback from the AIs. Don't over study.
The content is tough, but daydiff does a good job explaining it. To do well look at the slides/textbook before class. The lab portion was bad. The practical's were not straight foreword and pre labs were extremely difficult for no reason. Take iclicker seriously and review content before class. If this is your only science class you are fine.
This class was difficult for some, but I studied the lecture slides for tests and made sure I knew the material. iClicker questions were annoying but he gives extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester. Class itself wasn't as bad as I thought it would be
The class was tough, but as long as you studied the slides, you will do well on exams. The lab was not that difficult besides the pre-labs, which I would go to office hours for to get a better score. He is an extremely funny professor, and he makes the content very engaging and understandable. He also grades ICLICKER questions for points!
The most important thing for Daydif's microbiology lecture is to show up and listen. He uses iclicker and will ask questions during lectures that will go in as “lecture tasks” Majority of the grades besides tests and 4 online homework assignments will come from those. It's really easy to get your desired grade by showing up and studying hard.
iClickers questions every class and worth way to much of your grade. Has a total of 4 assignments not worth much but take a good hour or so to complete. Exams are the majority of total grade. Grades off a point system and not what canvas says. Was annoying to figure out what I had in the class.
A lot of nursing students have to take this class and I think way too many fail/don't do as well as they could because Daydif's lectures genuinely do not prepare you for the exam whatsoever. People study like crazy for his exams and still don't do well, so make sure you go to office hours and get help from people who have taken the class before.
Besides the fact that he says "again" and "in other words" in every sentence, he is a great professor who loves what he does. You need to study a lot to get a good grade, and take good notes because he will sometimes test on certain things that he mentions. This class gets a lot of hate, but I notice it's the students who don't study that say this.
teacher doesnt care if anyone dies you will not be allowed to make up anything, tells us to study lecture slides but half of the exam isnt in the slides, very funny lecturer tho
Daydif is a respectable professor in that he knows exactly his curriculum, he has his slide memorized, and can answer a lot of questions. I didn't get the best grade in his class, but actively studied all the time. He does say "again, in respect to, essentially" in every sentence and it's very extensive, can be hard to follow due to this.
daydif's lecture slides were terribly formatted and half the time you couldn't see the zoomed in photo cause it was so blurry, tests are alright with the 2nd and 3rd being the hardest, would recommend taking at another campus
Just don't take MIC in downtown, go to West or Tempe. The professor was very lecture heavy and he uses iclicker EVERY lecture for attendance and for questions that he grades. The homework he assigns is too much the homework can say 50 parts you click on question one and it's from A - J.
