The best teacher I have ever had! Everyone loves him! Hilarious!
KINDA DORKY! BUT HE IS A GOOD TEACHER. HE IS VERY HELPFUL.
couldn't ask for a better professor. Forces you to learn, but you're having so much fun you don't even realize it!
Really a great teacher, just expect to work your azz off from the beginning of the semester.

He earned UCA's teacher of the year for a reason! Fabulous man and so excited about chemistry, you can't help but grow to tolerate or like chem!
Best teacher ever!!! Hardest teacher ever!! My favorite class since coming to UCA. You may not get the grade you would hope for, but you will learn a heck of a lot about chemistry, which is his intention. He loves the subject and that shows inhisclass
He is good with illistrations and interesting. however his tests are extremely hard and he has a bad habit of only half working problems out on the board. He is not helpful in lab, half the time you have no clue what to do, even after reading.
A very hard teacher. He is very passionate about chemistry, but he tries to teach us too much in one semester. His tests are hard, and he goes over things in class that aren't even relevant to the tests. The tons of homework is crucial to the tests.
Very nice person. Test are hard as hell, and you really have to pay attention.
Great teacher... just makes you study for tests. Very enthusiastic about chemistry, and makes learning fun!
He is the most helpful teacher ever! Look, it may seem hard, but if you ever have any questions, GO TO HIS OFFICE!! he will help you so much. He will work with you until he is sure that you know what your doing. Oh, another thing- DO YOUR HOMEWORK OR YOU'LL BE SCREWED!!!
He is very passionate about what he teaches and he desprately wants you to learn. He practically begs you to come to his office for help. DO THE HOMEWORK! And if you have any questions at all, GO TO HIS OFFICE!.
Do your homework for each chapter, and if you have any questions, ASK HIM...Go to his office hours or ask during lab, but he is very good with answering your questions and will make sure you understand everything you need for the test.
Dr. Desrochers was a great professor. Never once cracked my book. He does great explanations for problems on the board, and if you take good notes you'll be fine. don't be afraid to ask questions, he's a genuinely nice person.
I loved this class! Not a fly-by course, you have to put forth some effort, but he'll help tremendously. I absolutely loved this course and would highly reccomend Dr. Desrochers. He is extremely helpful, approachable and just a nice guy. Makes Chem enjoyable! Incredible teacher!!!
Awesome teacher, has an astounding passion for chemistry. Is always willing to help. Tests can be brutal though
Desrochers is AWESOME. he's so nice and he will help you if you are having problems
he really is a great teacher, but as the others say, his tests are brutal, actually, any time he grades something, it's brutal. all i can say is do lots of homework and good luck.
He is an awesome teacher!! His tests are really REALLY hard and you have to study a lot, but if you have any problems with the material, he is always willing to help you with huge patience. Just go to his office and ask! He is a great person and he just loves teaching Chemistry,so this makes it easi
He is a super great teacher! I would highly recommend taking him. The test are hard but he loves chemistry and will help you anytime. Just go to his office.
desrocher is a very good teacher. i understood his materials well and he is very helpful outside the classroom, u can even talk to him about just school in general or family.. friends.. etc. BUT, his tests are quite hard.
He is the most helpful teacher you can get. He wants you to go and ask him questions and he will help you in anyway only thing is that he has the hardest tests on this planet. Do your homework on time and ask questions right after. Also use the solutions manual in the library.
His tests are so hard!! Make sure you read the material and do the homework and you will be fine. Very challenging but he makes chemistry fun.
He is a good teacher. He wants to help you. His test are pretty hard. His lectures are usually interresting but he will keep you the whole time. I liked this class.
This class was fairly easy if you have a good background in chemistry. His tests are rather difficult, but he is willing to help anyone, anytime. He sets aside office time, and uses lab time to help with homework and study for tests. He is a good teacher and knows his chemistry. Just make sure to pay attention and study.

He is an amazing teacher! His tests are very hard though, but if you come to lab and to class then you will have all the information you will need. He even sets aside time in lab to study for the tests, this helpped me a lot. He is very willing to help anyone who asks, go to his office it helps a lot!
Very good teacher. He really knows his stuff and knows how to get his point across to college students. He is a bit tough for a chem I teacher though, but if you have some background in chemistry you will have no problem.
As others said, he is very thorough. You must study for his class. If you have no background in Chemistry, take CHEM 1301. He is great, keeps class interesting, and is very enthusiastic. I highly recommend his class. Further, he posts old tests on the internet. If you look over them, you'll be golden.
Dr. Desrochers is a very interesting professor. He can be quite humorous at times, but is very clear that he cares about the subject of Chemistry. His tests aren't the easiest in the world, but he is more than willing to help you understand the material if you visit him in his office. That is if you do not understand it after lecture.
Dr. Desrochers (Duh-row-shure) is one of the most helpful professors at UCA. You're always welcome to ask him questions- in class or in his office. The material is difficult, but he tries his best to make the material understandable. His tests are difficult, but you can still have an A in the class w/ a couple of C's on the tests.
He's a pretty cool guy but not a very good teacher. If you can, have a conversation with him, but take someone else for class.
He is absolutely rediculous. He has a very dry sense of humor. His tests often have material which he considers to be common sense, which he has not gone over in class, and is NOT something you would have learned in Chem I. He's really hard, even if you are good at science.
He is the best professor at UCA, he even got an award saying it. His class is thorough, but very straightforward. If you study the material he assigns, you will get an A.
Great
I loved Dr. D. He's a good teacher and a very good man. Very enthusiastic about class and chem, but also sympathetic to the human plight if you know what I mean. He will push for excellence, though. Expect to be excellent, be pushed, and work HARD. Visit during office hours; really helps. Don't complain about the tests; he knows they're challenging
He is a really good teacher. I wish I had taken him for Chem 1 as well. His tests are hard but study the old tests and do the homework assigned and you'll do great. He is very enthusiastic and loves teaching. I'd highly recommend him. He's adorable and quirky too.
He is like the Colbert of Chemistry. I learned so much and absolutely loved it.
Funny, kinda cute. Fun to listen to. Cute little jokes and such. He can be a total jerk. The lectures and practice problems/tests had nothing to do with the actual tests. I hated this class so much. He insisted on different partners for every lab. Cool guy, take a different teacher.
He's a nice guy, and he can be funny at times, but I really didn't care for him at all as a professor. He expects his students to know a lot of things that we didn't and his tests are impossible. The average grade was usually a low D. There's no bonus, but the lowest test and lab grade are dropped. I recommend taking someone else if possible.
Very hard professor! I had a slightly easier professor for Chem one so I was completely caught off guard in this class. We started out with almost 70 people in our class and now we are left with about 20 something. If you want a real challange and want to spend every night doing chemistry...then this is your prof!
He is the most rediculously hard teacher I've ever had. He expects you to know things that you don't and he sometimes treats you like you're an idiot or like he doesn't have time for you. If you want to get anything better than a C in this class then DO NOT TAKE Dr. Desrochers.
He was a pretty awesome guy. very personable. He always said hi and made it a point to remember my name. The class itself was difficult and even when i thought i had a decent understanding i would still fail the tests. the tests were crazy hard for me. if your a fast pick up and easy learner this is your guy! if you tend to fall behind easily li
Smart guy! nice but really makes you work. Makes class interesting but it's still hard! Tests and quizzes come from lecture and book so take notes and do all of the board list work before coming to class! Ask him for questions you have before the test. He drops 1. Hard, but not impossible. I'm a straight A student and got a B, but I learned ALOT.
He is the hardest teacher i have EVER had!!! I went to his office hours but did i get help NO!!! He answered my questions with another question which is ridiculous. I understand that Chem II is a hard class but he made no effort to help me pass. I would study for hours everyday and still fail the test. There are not homework points to help you pass
Great teacher! He really cares about you, but you HAVE HAVE HAVE to put in the effort. He moves very fast, so take advandtage of his office hours. He is VERY willing to help! I spent probably 2 hours a day on chem including his office hours, outide of class. This class isn't easy, but if you push yourself you will be happy with how much you learn.
had him for chemistry in society, don't plan on making an A in his class unless you can devote plenty of hours studying... but one thing i don't understand is why he would post a review for the final from someone who made an 88 on the test... at least post one with correct answers...
I loved Desrochers! It's not that hard if you study and learn the material. Alot of people dropped in my class but I thought it was easy. Labs are interesting as well and help to understand the lectures. Don't miss class, it'll be hard to catch up.
Nice guy, tough teacher!! His tests are REALLY comprehensive. Studied my butt off for a C in the course. :( Working hard and still getting a C really discouraged me from majoring in science. THIS IS NOT AN EASY-A PROFESSOR. be prepared to work hard.
He is ridiculously difficult. I love science and have always been an A student. I got a 72 on the first test and began going to him during office hours. My grade went down! I even went to tutoring and did all the homework. Test questions are strangely worded. He treated me like I was failing to learn when in reality he failed to teach.
He is a terrible teacher. He may be good at teaching you the information but when his test ask three different things and you ask for help on it he will tell you he doesn't know what he wants. That one question effects 1/3 of the test and therefore if you guess wrong of what he wants you cannot get any better than a D. If SCI major stay away. AVOID
He is EXTREMELY hard. That being said he will make you fully understand Chemistry. I learned a lot about chemistry this semester. His test are extremely difficult and very comprehensive. His lectures are always interesting along with the labs. He is always available during office hours. Do ALL homework assigned, if you don't you will regret it!
This guy knows his stuff. I loved this class. People say its hard, but i'm not all that smart, invested maybe an hour a week into the lab and homework outside of class, got a B. If I weren't so lazy, I'd have gotten an A for sure. Use the office hours, DO YOUR HOMEWORK PROBLEMS.
I enjoyed this class! Never a dull moment. Take the practice tests he puts on his website... and even though it isn't mandatory, do the homework assigned in the book. Mr. Desrochers is a wonderful teacher!
Intermediate inorganic was so much fun and he's a fantastic professor! Eager to help and enthusiastic about chemistry, has high expectations of students and cares about your learning. Tests and quizzes are tough, though, and may require applying what you've learned in novel ways and not just regurgitate.
Dr. D is an okay professor. He does not give any multiple choice tests. All of them are short answer. He offers his office hours but he does the same thing in his office that he does in class. He is an Eager teacher, but you have to really love Chemistry to pass this class with at least a B or higher. Dont take him unless you are a Chem major
Loved him! Relates everything back to reality, makes sure everybody understands. Have to go to class & study- very big on concepts, but if you want to learn something, it's a great class. He loves chemistry and he loves teaching. A little deaf though, so don't be offended if he doesn't hear you!
Desrochers is a great professor. If you go to class and study you'll have NO problem passing. Great instructor.
Professor D is a great teacher!!! He will do anything to help you if you need it. He relates everything back to the real world and helps you understand chemistry as it relates to our everyday life. Study hard and make sure you pay attention to detail and you will do well in the class. Take Him!!!
I love Dr. D so much I took both of his chem classes. He isn't easy but he notices and respects hard workers. His tests are half math and half chem concepts so make sure you understand how and why the math is the way it is. If you don't get something GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! And if you want an A in the class you have to do the homework he assigns!
If you want to understand chemistry from every angle take him. He is an amazing professor! He is super enthusiastic about chemistry and relates it to real life so it's easy to remember. He's kind of dorky but he totally keeps class interesting with cheesy jokes and puns. take this professor!!!
I LOVE DR. DEROCHERS. He is very conceptual so it can be hard to know how to study for tests but he offers a lot of outside help. He has convenient office hours and begs students if they're struggling to come by and get help. He is a great teacher and teaches everything that's on the tests. Overall he is a great guy and everyone should take him!
I was highly confused in this class. He doesnt explain things very well at all. Do NOT take this class if you are coming right out of high school with little experience in Chemistry. Mostly everyone that I talked to in the class was not doing good. I had to drop because it was going to screw my GPA up. I do NOT recommend taking his class.
Loved the class, coming from a small school, I had little chem experience, but managed to pull out a B. Definitely for chem majors.
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU DONT HAVE STRONG CHEM BACKGROUND!! Studied numerous hours and pulled many many all-nighters for this class and still ended up getting a D. If you are very good in chemistry you might be able to get an A.
Dr. Desrochers is a great guy. He tries to make you laugh by makings little jokes. He is a very difficult professor, but you will KNOW Chemistry by the end of it. He is insanely helpful. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS! I cannot stress that enough.
He is an awesome teacher! Go to his office hours with any questions you have. Do the homework problems and practice test early so you can ask as many questions as possible. He is super cooperative and an extremely nice professor. You just have to put in the time for the grade
Deroschers was litteraly the best teacher ever. i understood everything in the class no problem. hard material. good teacher
Thought it would be easy because it was gen ed chem, but it was by far one of the hardest classes I have taken. Definitely spent a lot of time every week on this class. He is very passionate about his subject therefore he makes it interesting, but also very challenging. He is always willing to help. Super funny. One of my favorite professors yet.
Desrochers is one AMAZING teacher. If you have the chance, take him. He explain so very well. Makes a POINT to memorize everyone's name (class of 70+). Won't move on unless you understand (if you ask questions). Begs you to come see him in office hours. He is so passionate about chem. Best professor yet! Very easy to understand too!
Dr. Desrochers was incredibly helpful. He makes a point to know you and genuinely cares about you. He practically begs for you to come to his office hours if you do not understand something in class. You will need your book pretty much everyday. Tests are not incredibly difficult but you will need to study. I would definitely take him again!
Desrochers likes to use language that is rarely understood by a majority in class. He tends to only involve himself with those who are going above and beyond in class. Throughout the entire semester, he has continued to fail to remember my name. Do not take him, his class could end you.
Desrochers is really a nice guy, but his class is without a doubt the hardest class I've ever taken. I had a 4.0 GPA until I took his class. I'm leaving his class with a C and honestly that's the best most people are going to get.
Dr. Desrochers really knows what he's talking about. He's pationate about chemistry and wants everyone to do well. However, his tests are very difficult and many students have a C or below. You MUST work suggested homework problems to do well in his class. Although he's hard, he engraves concepts into your brain and as a plus, his lectures are fun!
Best professor ever! He is fun and extremely intelligent! You have to use the workbook and do a few problems outside of class to be successful. He is very easy to follow.
Dr. Desrochers was awesome. Chem II was hard but he made me want to try and learn and earn my grade in there. It takes a lot of study time to get an A in this class but he will give you all the resources you need to succeed. If I had any more chem classes I would take him again.
Wonderful professor!! Go to his office during hours, he is more than willing to work with students if you're willing to put in the work!! Do the practice tests, and the "extra" online work. He encourages students to reach out for help and seems concerned for your success.
Dr. Desrochers is PEHNOMENAL! His lectures have made me fall so deeply In love with chemistry that I considered changing my major. I have settled for adding a chem minor. He has a light in his eyes and a passion for helping students be successful. I loved him so much I am taking him for chem 1450 this spring. HIGHLY recommend. He's beyond amazing!
Dr. Desrochers is by far the most amazing professor Ive ever had for a class. Really funny, caring, makes sure you understand material, and has tons of office hours so you can ask any questions. Chem is one of the hardest classes on campus, but Dr. Desrochers does his best to help you learn and succeed if youre willing to put in the effort.
I loved him hes a great guy . I managed to pull an A in his class at the end of the semester barley. He prepares you so much for higher classes. But get ready to study I was new to chemistry and college when I took him and I would have to study atleast In total about 20 hours for each of his tests and up to 10 hours for his quizzes.
Dr. Desrochers is an amazing teacher. He cares about each of his students and will know your name by the end of the semester. He assigns a lot of homework but it is what is on his tests and quizzes. I highly recommend not only going to classes but the SI sessions as well. I would recommend him to anyone who takes school seriously.
This was my favorite professor. He is super caring and took the time to know everyones name. He lets you know of all quizzes and tests. He is willing to take time out of office hours to help you. TAKE HIM!!
There is no extra credit, and I have always found chemistry difficult. Yet, he was an amazing professor. He didn't give things to you easily, but made you work for it. He has an amazing, approachable personality and his office hours made him even more personable and helpful. I wouldn't have wanted any other professor. TAKE HIM
hands down best prof I'll get probably. He drops a test, quiz, lab. Tons of opportunities to get extra help. He does have high expectations tho. Alot of optional hw should be done but he's a fantastic teacher. He is always sooo excited about chem and VERY passionate. I love his goofy jokes & personality. Never lets a student feel stupid.
This professor is the head of the chemistry board. This means he is hard. He does not lecture in class. He does it on a video and makes you watch it. I don't take an in person class for you to teach on a video... Homework is hard but there is not much of it. Quizzes are often and sometimes they are online. They are always very short
He really cares about chemistry and his students, he wants everyone to succeed. His lectures are very interactive and engaging. He loves what he does and it shows. He is willing to work with you on things and has multiple office hours.
I absolutely enjoyed learning in this class! He gets to know all his students and prepares you for your upper classes. He teaches very well and has high expectations for everyone.
Dr. Desrocher is a very intelligent person, but I do not think he is the best teacher. I attended more than half of his study sessions outside of class and felt like it did not help. When I was confused on a concept, he did not explain it in a way that I could comprehend but explained it in the same way he did the first time. Would not take again.
He was an okay person and will really get to know you but his lectures are literally incoherent. He could not stay on topic to save his life and my notes were a mess. If you base your studying off notes from lecture..good luck!
He is amazing and genuinely cares about his students. If you do the practice problems, you will do great. He prepares you for quizzes and test. One of the best professors I have had; he even takes the time to learn everyone's name. He is always energetic and makes it easy to learn.
I would not suggest taking this class at ALL, the professor would call on students to publically embarrass them in class. Even with going to multiple office hours, the class was still very difficult for me and I would not recommend someone take this class for your own sanity. The labs are easy which is the only plus of this class.
This class is very difficult and I feel like Desrochers is not the best fit to teach it. There is a quiz every week and an exam every 3-4 chapters. No homework the only points given aside from test is labs which he grades harshly. I would only recommend this professor if you think you are very good at math.
Dr. Desrochers is almost too smart to teach gen chem. Whenever you ask a question, he cannot answer it because he just knows why and expects you to know as well. He cannot explain it in any other way because he "just gets it". Whenever it comes to grading, he is super nitpicky.
I would 100% recommend taking him for chemistry ! Chemistry is a tough subject but he made it possible for me to pass. He sets time out just for students every week, he grades efficiently, and he always gives feedback. 100% recommend.
He absolutely did not care about you. He picked favorites and if you were not one of them, then the class just got 100xs harder. He tried to act like he cared about each person in the class, but it was just a facade. He was constantly embarrassing people in front of the class and made you feel dumb if you did not understand a concept.
Dr. Desrochers is hard, but his caring and great humor makes up for it. His lectures are very entertaining and informative, and he will only test over what he lectures about. He grades hard, so make you answer all questions in their entirety.
A challenging class with a great professor. He wants you to succeed and will work with you if you work with him. Sometimes he gives unhelpful answers, but as long as you clarify you still don't understand he will help. Most of the work comes from you- practicing, learning, reading, and whatever else helps you learn.
If you are having to take this course and are a non-chemistry major I strongly recommend taking it with him. He is very clear about what you have to do to pass. It does take work and effort, and if you are a chemistry major it reflects well what the future has in store for you. Read the textbook. Do the practice problems. And he's funny.
He's a good professor and will work with you but grades hard. There's a lot of homework that is worth no credit. The only grades you get are from exams, labs and quizzes (which are every week).Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go you will fail. If you don't have time to study for hours every week I would not take him.
If you do not already have a good understanding of Chemistry I wouldn't take him for Chemistry. When you ask him questions he never gives you a straightforward answer, and also will make you feel stupid in front of everyone. I studied every day, went to SI sessions, had meetings with him, and did the practice problems but still failed.
awesome professor, hard course so you need to stay on top. he tells you “you payed for my help, come get it.” really wants to help his students succeed, the course is just hard
He cares about his student's success in his class. I took his class with no prior knowledge of chemistry and was able to pass with a decent grade. I spent a ton of time doing homework and asking for help to succeed, but it was worth it because I ended up loving the class. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, I recommend his class.
Professor Desrochers is challenging but rewarding. He genuinely cares and will work with you, though sometimes his explanations can be unhelpful. Use all the resources - practice, textbook, office hours, and tools like unstuckstudy - to succeed.
It should be in your best interest to take him for CHEM II if you also had him for CHEM I. He is very knowledgable, caring, and respected but his expectations from you learning the material are very high, especially in terms of remembering his specific concepts from CHEM I. Use office hours, SI, study sessions and read the book if you want to pass.
I took Desrochers in the fall. He's a cool guy and knows his stuff. He'll genuinely try to learn everyone's name and makes it apparent that he wants to help and wants you to go to his office hours. He genuinely cares about his students, though his class is difficult. If you take him, make sure to study and go to office hours
I do not recommend this professor if you are not a chem major. You will spend a lot of time studying for this class or you will fail. Quiz every week and tests will be over what has been covered. Only grades you receive are quizzes, tests, labs and 3-4 hw assignments. No grade on chapter hw probs. Test anxiety? Do not take!
I took him for Chem 1 and 2. He is very passionate and caring about wanting to help you learn chemistry. You have to put in many hours a week practicing book problems to understand the material due to chemistry being a challenging subject and Dr. Desrochers being a tough grader. Most of the time he is very nice aswell.
Dr. Desrochers is a great professor. Although other ratings may intimidate you, he is open to discussing topics and answering questions. He has never made me feel stupid. He is kind, intelligent, and very passionate about what he does. Attend SI sessions, office hours, and study sessions to excel in this class. Take advantage of your resources!
Lectures are enjoyable and he includes interesting relative information to explain concepts. You will need to set aside a lot of time to study and do all of the homework to get a good grade in this class. There are SI sessions to go to each week. He is a hard grader and has high expectations.
I spent all of my time studying for chem2 to the point where I could barely focus on my other classes. He can be snarky, rude and time demanding for a single course. Lectures were alright, labs ok, lots of hw, hard grader. He spends a lot of time complaining about how much the class doesn't know chemistry. I would not take him again.
Chem is challenging, but I think this professor makes it a lot harder than it needs to be. Points earned in class are mostly from quizzes and exams. If you're not a favorite of his then don't expect encouraging help. And if he thinks you're not doing as well as he would like then you might as well drop. High expectations. Hard grader. Stressful.
