Dr. Devine is a good professor. He is very knowledgeable. I enjoyed taling to him about subjects related to the class. He can get off subject frequently with stories aobut his family and some students don't like that. I enjoyed his class. It is not an easy class but, it is interesting.
Uses the classroom as a pulpit to preach a political agenda. Reads from pre printed class notes instead of lecturing. Uninspiring, filthy and smug in his tenure.
Doesn't really teach as much as he talks about himself or his experiences (not that they relate to the class subject at all). Rambles on about off topic subjects and teaches by reading from the mandatory purchase pre-printed class notes. Tests are mutiple choice but may include politically charged, off topic questions. Tenured Jerk.
Dr. Devine is probably the worst professor I have ever had. All he cares about is his own personal life. He doesn't teach anything to the class; he only reads of of the powerpoints. He is erragant and rude and acts as though every student is beneath him. He never returns e-mails and he barely answers your questions when you ask them to his face. It was the worst experience of my whole educational career!!!
I go to Holy Spirit Prep high school and Dr. Devine comes in and teaches us college psyc. He is terrible and I can't stand him. He talks about the most random things, repeats himself, wastes time, reads off of dumb notes, can't spell worth a flip, etc. I have no idea why he isn't a homeless bum without a job.
Relies soley on powerpoint presentations and doesn't use the book which he makes you buy anyways. Puts mandatory content on a hard to use WebCT interface. Talks endlessly about his own exploits and accomplishments rather than the course subject. the tests do not include content from the book or the powerpoints. Avoid this flaming tard at all costs!
Hard, but fair. Strong interest in subject area
Talked endlessly about his interests and acomplishments. His lectures are not on the materials outlined but are instead about his exploits with the Braves and his experiences in business. He avoids answering questions with clear answers so he can be sure to mark you wrong if he doesn't like you. The only way to get a good grade is to kiss ass.
This teach is terrible. I HATED his class. I never went because listening to him talk about how great he is at everything irritated me to the point I couldn't sit there anymore. I got a B so it is not super hard, but he is a terrible teacher. TERRIBLE. Don't take him. He is boring, idiotic and arrogant.
This class was ok. He likes to repeat himself and is occasionally inappropriate, but if you do as the requirements say, you can get an A. The tests did ask some pointless questions (random points in notes), and he took entirely too long to return assignments. Not the best class ever taken, but not the worst either.
Terrible final. not at all what was said to be
He likes to talk about himself and his kids. He likes to talk so much that that is 90% of the class. His test are hard, YOU MUST FOLLOW HIS POWERPOINTS!!!! And dont expect to get your test or grades in a timely manner he takes forever with that.
I took Dr. Devine in the summer for his careers class. I ended up with an A. He is very precise in what he expects on the assignments, but so are the other professors for this class.4 assignments, a midterm and a final. His tests are right from the powerpoints. He does talk about himself a lot but he is very nice and helpful. Can get an easy A or B
worst professor ever. Uninterested in teaching but loves himself. If you love to suck up to ignorant and lazy teachers, you'll do well and get an A. If you like to learn and don't like wasting time that could be better spent learning for real, skip this guy and go with Helms or Rogers.
One of the worst classes ever. He is very knowledgeable in I/O field, and gives lots of exmaples, but nothing related to test really. Talks way too much about personal life, and will spend 45 min on 1 slide. Pushes back tests several weeks, and tries to cram info in at last min bc he talks too much to cover all of material. Do not recommend.
You have to be willing to work. He tests off his powerpoints and out of the book. He uses personal experience and stories to explain concepts, gives u something to relate them to. He knows what he is talking about and will offer help to anyone who asks! he has no sympathy for those failing his class who dont show up! great teacher! very funny!
If I hear one more story about how great this guy thinks he is I'm going to puke. What an incredible twit. 0% teaching, 100% memorizing powerpoints for easy multiple choice tests. Class is pretty easy if you don't mind wearing cotton in your ears. He is probably the most worthless professor in the psychology department. Stroke his ego for the win!
Loser. Boring. No more stories. We should be paid to attend his class; not us paying to hear him! UGH. What is the University thinking allowing him to continue?
This guy will talk your ears off about stuff that nobody cares about. the class is nothing but boring stories. always shows up late to class, even though an assignment turned in late is unacceptable. do not take devine!!!!!
This class is so easy however Dr. Devine talks and talks and talks about nothing important. He is very helpful but I transfered so im a Jr. taking a freshman class and it sucks. You can get an A with a little work
DON'T TAKE HIM. He's a nice guy, but he is not a good teacher. This class was the most boring class I have ever taken here at KSU. I think they only keep him around because he has been here so long, they are praying for him to retire.
Do not take this class, all he talks about is his life and nothing else important. He tries to relate real life situations to what he teaches but they do not connect at all. I feel sorry if you get stuck in this class. Memorize his power-points, don't buy the book, and use the practice tests on the publishers website. Good luck, you'll end up with
Really nice guy, he talks a lot and gets off topic very often, but he is only trying to help. If you go to class it will be really easy. Take & review notes before the test and follow his guidelines for the assignments. He tells you what needs to be done to receive an A, a B.. and so on. Do the work & turn it in on time = EASY A!
He tends to get sidetracked, but I thought the side stories were interesting because they helped paint a picture of what life as a licensed psychologist and a college prof. is like. As I was in Careers in Psych, it was useful to me. Tests are challenging, but if you study the slides and be careful on the assignments, and you'll get a good grade.
His class is boring mainly because he gets off topic and sometimes I don't understand how what he talks about relates to the topic. Best thing to do is to read the book and the powerpoints and try to teach yourself the best you can. Very nice person though
Posts power points online, gives good study guides before tests, covers information slowly but relates terminology with stories from life-really helps make things clear. Fun class for a 3 hour once a week period. Will take other classes with him again. responds to email left on georgiaview or inbox promptly. Nice guy, answers questions, helpful.
As EVERYONE is saying, yes he is really boring. I also don't think he knows much about the material. I think he has memorized other people's power points. Avoid him if possible. Off-color and off-topic stories are common. Read the book.Use the publisher's website.I stopped going to class after about a month and never got below a 100 on his tests.
Not clear and as specific as he could be for senior paper requirements. This teacher even dozed during students powerpoints. Worst class I have ever taken, this teacher is just plain creepy. But may be the best of the worst evils for this class. Psychology dept. needs new teachers.
Dr. Devine gets so off topic during lectures, but sometimes it is interesting. He can be really boring because he really just likes to hear himself talk. Careers is an easy class so I would take him again, but I would not take him for my upper level major classes.
cool guy, alright teacher but if you have the opportunity, take someone else!!! Not clear in what he wants, talks about himself alot, and puts the most random questions on quizzes and tests. Class is just powerpoints and is boring. I would only take him again if i had no other option.
75% of the lecture is about himself. He is completely narcissistic and is not concerned with the student's success or failure. He is not interested in teaching and he is pure lazy. He doesn't give clear information on assignments. One of the worst teachers I've ever had.
Had to comment. Summer of 2006, I took 3 classes from him. A doctor on campus found a lump in my breast. I had an emergency ultrasound. Devine didn't care. In addition, he fell asleep during presentations and was further hospitalized that fall. He failed me in 2 classes when I got Bs. He wouldn't change my grade. I'm appauled he's still at KSU.
He gets off topic alot and the test are extremly hard for a 1000 level class! He is funny at points but the power points arent on the test..u must read the book and know your stuff!
He couldn't care less about teaching this class. He gets through maybe 15 out of 80 ppts each class b/c he gets so off topic. Which leads to the exams; the questions are HARD, even if you've read the chapters. Of 40 students, only 4 made an A in the class and that was with a large curve! Try to avoid this class if you can!
I was really excited to take IO psyc, but Dr. D made this class painful to sit through. All he did was talk about himself, and even carried on personal conversations (that had nothing to do with class topics) with older students who have a similar background as him. It was a waste of my time. Hard tests, easy projects. Will never take him again.
I was excited about this class. I/O is something i wish to pursue. But the Dr. D made this topic so painful. He would never get through the ppt slides. He was Frequently late and unprepared for class. He was so disorganize. So much so, that he gave me an A in the class, even though i missed the project and should have received a C in the class.
I took him for Senior Seminar. He is by far one of the worst psych professors we have. Arbitrary grading system, always late to class, rambles on without any reason. Unfortunately he's tenured so he likely won't change even after poor reviews.
Very boring class. He tries to be funny and is very repetitive with his stories. His tests are very confusing. The only reason he is easy is because if you talk to him and you look good and act concerned about your grade, he will give you an A. I did poorly on the final and still got an A.
Great professor. If you ask him questions he will answer them and is always willing to meet with you to help you with the course. Sometimes unclear about the test but they're very easy as long as you read and go to class.
Easy but a completely pointless class to go to. He took FOREVER to go through the power point slides. He rambles too much basically. The quizzes he gave were hard & timed. Read the chapters several time if you want high scores on the quiz. Tests and assignments weren't hard, but don't procrastinate.
Just had him for Maymester and I'm glad I did. Yes, he talks about his life/family, but what professor doesn't?? Very fair grader and a really nice guy. I learned a lot in two weeks!
I just took him for senior seminar he is a nice guy. He does get off topic sometimes especially when it comes to his family but that is with anyone. He is very approachable about any concerns you have. He can be confusing so make sure you get a clear understanding of what he wants even if you have to ask him 10 times.
DO NOT TAKTE THIS PROFESSOR. He spends 80% of the lecture time talking about himself and other irrelevant topics. The lectures are ridiculous and his assignments are pointless. He's a nice guy, but I haven't learned a thing in his class- except how to tune him out when he goes on one of his 30 minute tangents.
I was really excited about this class and the first few classes I thought I'd really enjoy it. However, he talks the whole period and half of what he is saying has nothing to do with the class, assignments, etc. The first test is HARD. You must know very detailed information about all the psyc teachers, psyc department and psyc clubs
Took his summer class. Attending 90% of the classes because I was really excited. Hated going to his class because he would forget to give us a break. Could lecture for 3 hours straight when given the chance. Cool enough guy, good attitude and decent personality but long-winded and goes on tangents nigh CONSTANTLY.
If you take senior seminar during summer semester, don't be afraid to take him. Course is not as intense as expected. Very willing to help you through it all. Many presentations, however he makes it easy to succeed with clear instructions and specific feedback immediately after presenting. Will do excellent on paper if you do well on presentations.
"blah blah , hahaha ! blah blah blah haha!" That's basically what you hear in the 2 hours and 45 minutes of class. Everything he discusses in class is online because he post the same powerpoint on d2l. He is not good at explaining the information and his test are suuuuuuuuuuuuuper hard! I would not advise anyone to take him if it is possible.
Hands down, the MOST confusing professor at KSU I've taken thus far. His tests are genuinely confusing. For someone that designs tests for a living, he does a TERRIBLE job assessing your learning. I'm not some bitter idiot. I have almost a 4.0 and put at least 4 days into studying. Trust me, AVOID this guy. He's nice enough, but completely lost.
Of the 2 I/O profs KSU offers, it's a "pick your poison" thing. Lectures are basic info, if you want to pass, you need to learn everything on your own. "study guides" and ppt's are ambiguous. tests are HARD and detailed. gives random attendance points. creeped me out, i was weary about having office hours with him.
He's a good professor. Has a tendency to talk,ALOT, but sometimes it helps understand the material better. But he's decent and fair so if you do the work youll do good in the class. He curves exams based off frequently missed questions. Overall I'd definitely take him again. He gives extra credit for those who attend class regularly.
Prepare to invest quite a bit of time listening to lectures. Weekly discussion post due by Thursday and replies must be submitted Friday - Sunday only. Weekly quiz or exam only open Sat am - Sun pm. Missed an A in the class by less than a point.
If you are a psyc major and need to take an upper level psychology course do not take this course I don't car how much you study you'll never pass because the quizzes and exams are extremely hard. He reads off of 50 slides each class period the material isn't presented so you can get an understanding. This is a warning do not take this course!
I learned a lot while taking this class. You will read a lot, watch videos, post weekly discussions, and be tested. The exams are rough. Yes, he's a tough grader - but he's passionate about psychology, and you will leave feeling that, too . I would not take him if you're looking for an easy A. I would take him if you're looking for a meaningful A.
Avoid Dr. Devine at all costs! Worst professor KSU has! He doesn't follow his syllabus. No clear grading rubric. Senior Sem. was a joke! All group presentations so he doesn't have to teach. He's not willing to work with you! Requires a 74 to pass the class so there's no way to recover if you fail/miss an assignment. Definitely do not recommend!
I have taken psy 1101 for the first time online, with professor Devine. His modules and content is very clear and interesting. He does an awesome job with helping the class whenever there was confusion. very easy class to pass. a lot of quizzes and test but easy as long as your follow the class material provided. loved his class
You have to do the work. On both of our test he did a super curve on it. No rarely came and stay in our class, because it was a 3 hr class. So it you stayed you got extra credit on the test. I got an easy A. He has been here over 30 yrs. He gets off topic a lot, because he is passionate about what he teaches.
He is fine. He gets off topic A LOT when giving lectures. My class was hybrid and it was a bit hard. A lot of LONG power points. I personally would not take him again but he is not terrible.
Doesnt follow the syllabus and is an emotional grader. He failed half the class and passed the people he liked. Never checks his email and gets off topic ALOT.
I took him over the Summer for Senior Seminar in a 4 week course. Big mistake! Had group presentations, senior test, final paper, final presentation for the paper, and professionalism. He definitely gives good feedback but majority of my class failed. I would avoid him if I was you.
Trust me, don't take this professor. Only gives a few grades, grades harshly and unevenly, and generally does nothing to help the class or even teach it.
Didnt lecutre or teach anything. Had almost a perfect grade in the class until the senior paper, which i had revised by him and several other people. Ended up with an 89.4, explained how hard i had worked, no feedback on what i had done wrong on the paper, asked if there was anything i could do (needed an A to get into grad program). No response.
Trust me when I say he's the worst professor I've ever had. Inconsistent grading, poor communication, and rude manners. Wish I could go in depth here but this was the last class I needed to graduate, he failed me and I had to go through a lot of hoops to remedy that. He doesn't care about his students. STAY FAR AWAY.
I took it online and it was one of the easiest classes. All his lectures posted online. Reading quizzes are lockdown browser and four tests in which the fourth is the final which are lockdown+webcam. He gives extra credit in which skyrocketed my grade at the end of the semester. The classwork is easy and there is one research experience requirement
This guy talks and talks and talks. I don't think I ever saw him take a breath. I don't recommend taking him. His tests and rubrics are very confusing and seem to have been written by an elementary student with multiple grammar and spelling errors.
After reading Dr. Devine's reviews, I was very hesitant to take his class. I am glad I took a leap of faith and signed up for his class because the work load was very reasonable. He was very accommodating during all of the COVID-19 madness, and helped me end the semester on a good note. I highly recommend his class.
All be it Prof Devine did his best to communicate with the class throughout the semester, his exams leave much to be desired. No matter how much I seemed to study, even changing study habits, his exams are extremely application based. Your entire grade is comprised of 12 quizzes, 4 exams, and 4 group discussions. You spend 90% of your time reading.
The quizzes are open notes/book, etc.. - got a 14 or 15 on each. Discussions are great way to make extra credit, only reason I passed. (Hint: +3pt if you have an outside reference). No matter how I studied, or made my 2 pg allowed cheat sheet, I still failed every test. Some weeks the lectures were 2 1/2 hours! Intro class shouldn't be this hard :(
Most inexcusably vague and poorly taught class I have taken so far at KSU. Had to email for clarification on nearly every assignment, often assigned work with no grading criteria so you are left guessing what the professor wants. Confusingly set up website, posts riddled with spelling errors, you will pass in spite of him, not because of him
Do not take his class!! Hes an awful professor, the class is set up confusing and his grading criteria is never clear. Even using notes while taking the test youll barely pass.
He was rude to students when emailed questions. He doesnt grade anything his TAs basically do his job. Hes been at Kennesaw since it was a college. Its just time for him to retire.
hes a horrible professor who cant take feedback. his test are impossible to do well on and you have a test per week or an assignment that takes 5+ hours to complete. He doesnt give feedback and his TAs grade everything. avoid him at all costs!!
Do not take this class. I had him for senior capstone and he is a ridiculous grader, extremely rude, and requires a lot. His feedback on grades are not constructive, and unpleasant.
I'm telling you, trust these reviews. His entire class is run by his TAs and he has many of them, which I think shows how uninvolved he is. He doesn't respond to emails and when he does he's extremely disrespectful. His assignments are incredibly long but honestly fine if you just do the work. I don't normally write reviews but man, he's just mean.
Ive never had a worse professor. He failed most of my class 2 days before we were supposed to graduate. He laughed and said we had senioritis on his 13 page paper that he gave us zeros on. He had no sympathy and would not help in any way. He is extremely unprofessional and vindictive. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR ANY CLASS
Worth it! 2 chances on all quizzes (open-book) & exams (page of notes allowed). Easy busy-work assignments (unlimited attempts to get a perfect score!!) boost final grade. Offers "One Favor Pass" for free extension on exams/quizzes without needed an excuse, or save for bonus points at end of course. Drops lowest grades for 1 exam, 2 quizzes, etc.
Open book quizzes (2 chances on each), 1 page of notes allowed on exams (also 2 chances). Lots of small, easy assignments (built-in "knowledge checks" from etext) help boost your grade a lot. "One Favor Pass" gives a 72hr extension on anything w/o an excuse or it can be saved for 15 bonus points at the end. Fair, fairly easy, & understanding!
I like Dr. Devine because of his professional I/O knowledge and experiences. He is a very kind teacher and helps student understand his class. I was talking to him to get some guide for my graduate school information. He gave me very useful information. I definitely will take his class again.
AVOID TAKING HIS COURSE. He doesn't respond to emails and he also doesn't grade work until 2 days before final grades are due. His grading is unclear and he takes away however many points he feel. OVER 3 YEARS IN COLLEGE AND HE IS THE ONLY PROFESSOR I KNOW WHO DOES POINT REDUCTION. he contradicts his self which makes it nearly impossible to pass.
I don't know if it was Dr. Devine that was bad or the class itself but I just found it overly difficult for no reason. Assignments were long and graded pretty harshly and tests were very difficult.
It isn't awful but it isn't great either. Things feel convoluted and confusing for no reason, but the assignments are doable so long as you set aside enough time to get them done. And believe me, you are going to need plenty of time to complete any of these assignments. Would not recommend taking this class if you have a lot going on course wise.
Professor Devine online is really easy and you have ample time to complete everything. The three projects are somewhat time consuming but the quizzes are short and not on lockdown. Tests are on lockdown but you do not have to study much to pass.
1 day in & abt to drop. crazy amount of work & syllabus scares me w difficulty- crowded, and goes by week days rather than clear dates for each assignment, which is critical in online class. discussions aren't bad bc you don't have every module but any course u have to video yourself is a no for me. signed up bc he was only option but not worth it.
This man will end your academic career!!! If there is a 0.001% chance that it looks like you cheated on anything he will report you for it and mark you as guilty without hearing your side of the story! Success is a punishable offense in his class. Do not take him, do not make the mistake I did!
Super easy class with so much extra credit, enough to boost you about a letter grade. Quizzes weren't lockdown w/ 3 attempts, exams were lockdown w/ 3 attempts DO NOT TRY TO CHEAT HE WILL FAIL YOU. You have four discussions (one is a video) and two assignments but they were not hard. He's not very accessible though, you mostly go through the TAs.
Overall, it is a doable class. He gives multiple attempts on all quizzes (not on lockdown) and tests (on lockdown). The tests were all hard because the class doesn't have many terms; it's mostly statistical information about different psych majors, so it requires a lot of memorization. However, he offers a lot of extra credit which helped my grade.
I don't know why his ratings are so low because this class was pretty easy. Use the PowerPoints to take quizzes and you will get an A. All exams use old quiz questions so study them and you will do fine. You have a quiz due every Friday and an exam every few weeks. It is definitely boring but do the work and you will get an A.
HE WILL END YOUR ACADEMIC CAREER OUT OF SPITE. He reported me to SCAI for plagiarism. I had to spend the last few weeks of my semester proving my innocence via documentation and countless meetings instead of actually preparing for finals. I won but he messed with my mental state. The amount of stress is insane. He is out for blood. Do not do it.
Where to start with Dr. D... He is a VERY tough grader, he will take away points for minor things which can be really frustrating. There is a LOT of work, and its stressful work. About 1/6 of your grade is group projects, and they can be tough, especially in an online class. He does give decent EC, which helps. If you work hard, you should be ok.
Worst professor I have worked with. To think I chose to work with this man outside of class and in a directed study because I thought I could learn something from him. Completely WRONG. He was disrespectful, mistreated me as student, and didn't teach me anything except for how to stand up for myself against a horrible person, that being himself.
This course taught me one thing: how to make the best out of the worst possible situation. He is a spiteful and very emotional grader with heinous intentions for someone who is self-proclaimed to be an educator. If you don't abide by his demands, he'll REPORT YOU TO SCAI. Don't make the same mistake I did, AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!
Don't take his class if you have a choice. Multiple students had issues with him giving low or failing grades without providing appropriate feedback to back up the grade given. If his class is the only option available, make sure you meet with him every chance you get to confirm that your work meets his expectations.
I would rather eat sand than take his class again. He gave me an 80 on a project because he confused me with another group and he never fixed it. He also goes on hour long tangents that make you want to rip your hair out.
Doesn't lecture. Be ready to self teach by reading the textbook. Mandatory online text assignments and quizzes at the end of each chapter and the test questions could cover ANY part of the textbook chapters for that unit. No physical textbook available. Read the study guide example questions - some of the text questions are verbatim.
What a nightmare of a man. Goes around saying he's a girl dad but is insanely condescending towards female students. I made him mad ONE time and he tanked my grade on an assignment even though I only messed up one thing that wasn't even that serious. When I asked about it he said i didn't add references even though I literally did
Do not take if you have other options. He does provide LOTS of PowerPoints and study guides for tests even though half the time the questions on the study guide aren't on the actual tests. You have 4 discussions, 2 assignments, a quiz every week (3 attempts) and an exam every 3-4 weeks (3 attempts + lockdown).
