During lecture, he actually holds a conversation with 200+ students, inviting dialogue and listening to what we say.
I credibly disorginized, but he's new, so it's to be expected. It looks like it could be a really fun course after he develops the curriculum a little.
Dizney's Awesome. If you don't like working in groups DON'T take this class. You make a short film for the final. His movie selection for the labs is so-so, but he'll develop it once he gets the hang of it
Don't take this class if you're not interested in cinema, or don't like group work. Also, tests are easily cheatable, but it doesnt mean you'll do well, really hard to study for.
If you don't like group work, class could be rough. Class was really easy. Quizes were multiple choice, and if you know anything about film prior to the class you'll be fine. Felt like he was learning the text along with us- but it was his first quarter teaching it. Overall a fun professor...
Prof. Dizney has tons of legitimate industry experience (LaO:SVU criminal), and is easily approchable. The downside is the class talks. He asks the class for answers, and "dope from the back" replies with his incoherent blabber. Dizney needs to state the facts, instead of alowing 40min talks on how some jerk thinks Dorothy is a symbol for communism
Dizney is a really nice guy, but needs help when it comes to instructing a class. He's ridiculously unorganized and preparing for tests and the video project are hell since you really have no idea what to do or what to study for. I would recomend to anyone interested in learning the finer details about cinimatic production.
Pretty easy class, it was his first time teaching at WWU. Read the readings carefully and review before the quizzes. Make sure you are there for movie days because he gives the answers to the quizzes. Movie project takes up time, unorganized class but easy final. Not a bad GUR, a lot of work for a 3 credit class tho. Find an experienced movie group
Fun and easy. Watch movies, take quizzes, make a movie. But he's very unorganized and very tech imparied. Know's what he's talking about, very knowledgable with acting/movies. (He's in Law & Order)
A very group-work oriented class. Most of the classwork revolves around this film you have to make w/ a group of people. Other than that you take about a quiz a week based on the reading. Not hard at all, but class lectures are unorganized and are supposed to be "discussions" when people are just yelling random stuff out. Good overall.
First time for the course. Great job staying flexible. You will learn the art of acting, the production aspects will improve.
Easy class. Class discussions are basicly useless. Not too clear.
This class SUCKS and if you do not get a good theater group you will be screwed for the entire quarter
super easy gur, short multiple choice quizzes throughout book definitions. You get in a group and make a film about anything, don't let anyone tell you that's hard. it's not.
Takes a little too much time outside of class for what it is. I thought I wouldn't like it, but it does really make you look at movies with a more educated eye. And Dizney's TA is hot hot HOT.
There is a surprising amount of reading, and you kind of have to do it to be successful because he doesn't lecture really at all. His quizzes aren't always worded the best but they are pretty much straight from the book so if you read, you should be fine.
Just memorize the vocab, tests are a joke. Easy 'A' what more can you ask for when all you do is watch movies?
Really fun and really hot!
Quizzes are easy, for the most part, never read the book but still pulled A's on all of them. Get a good group for the movie project and you're set.
attractive and charismatic; shows up to class less than most other professors--TA teaches a lot; lectures are fairly tedious, answers too many questions with more questions, "prompting" the class to answer their questions themselves; tends to have a lazy attitude; shows a few lame movies; tests are badly structured (projected to save paper)
Tests are very easy, but he is very energetic. Projects and extra credit are fun and somewhat easy.
I Love Prof. Dizney! His intro to Cinema class was so much fun. I really enjoyed being able to kick back every monday for a kickass movie. He's a lot of fun, and he seems very congenial. The quizzes were really easy if you just glance at the bold terms in the book, and make sure you have some friends that you can work on the movie project with.
Very flexible and very easygoing. Conversational. It's clear he knows what he's talking about. A much better professor in person than in a lecture setting. Still one of the best professor's I've had. Engaging. For those passionate about THTR/Film, he's a must.
He is very energetic! Also a very easy going guy. His tests are very easy and he gives helpful studyguides!
Lectures can get a off tangents a bit so be aware of that. Tends to be quite a number of annoying students (mainly theatre majors) being "knowitalls"
Great class, great teacher. energetic and a big help.
Easy fun class, some movies you watch are great, others are boring but overall it was fun. Just make sure that for your film project at the end you have people that actually help with the work so that you don't end up doing it all. I recommend splitting the book with a lot of people to save money, you only use it when filling out the study guide.
He's a good prof.. good at keeping students engaged and interested in lecture topic. keeping up with all the reading is a must even though there's a ridiculous amount of it.. it's not bad if you consistently do a bit each night though. If you do this you'll hands down get A's on the tests. Do the extra credit!
Absolutely loved this class. Dizney is a great professor and he really keeps the kids interested. Watched a ton of great movies and the films made for the class were a lot of fun. Hardly touched the book except for the online quizzes, which were easy. Dizney's awesome. Recommend this class to anyone.
Dizney is a cool prof...but I pretty much hated the class. It was kind of a waste of time since I was just taking it as a GUR. Plus, the film project...ridiculous, way too much outside work for a GUR.I felt like I was in a class with 300 7th graders.
The prof is a fun guy but other than that the class didn't seem to offer much. It was pretty much pointless and if you get a bad film project group the whole quarter sucks. It was a big pain to even go to class basically. I agree that with the person that said it was like being in a room with 300 7th graders.
I thought the class was ridiculous. Get a good group for your film project, most of your grade is weighted on that which I thought wasn't fair, especially in grading. It was alot of outside work (film) for a class that was only worth 3 credits. Online quizzes are easy. I would also agree with the last 2 comments about the class of 300 7th graders.
take this class! dizney is great! He is really approachable and it is a really fun class to go to! The lab time seems long but it is only because you watch movies! all of the quizzes are online and are suuper easy! It is a really big class, but most of his lectures are in discussion form so it is easy to pay attention! take him!!!
This class is easy and lots of fun. Not too much outside work, but some. This is a class worth taking. Besides if you get nothing else out of it, Dizney is a hottie to the max!
very fun class, he made it very interesting. Online quizzes are easy and that helps the grade, he does lecture a bit on what's on the quizzes so that's helpful, but sometimes the class can get a little out of control, they don't know what they're talking about and he enjoys those conversations, not too fun there.
His quizzes are online and are based on lab days where movies are presented. He is humorous and passionate about theatre arts. This is a pretty laid back class.
This dude is awesome. His lectures were fun when we had them and the projects were fun as long as you level out the work. Anyone who this badly about this class is a complete ****. Because of this I decided to double major in Theatre.
>>Intro to cinema:<< great GPA booster. Watch movies, make one, and meet people. Despite what it may sound like, this dude knows his stuff. Fun to talk to after class / office hours as well.
A terrific professor, crystal clear lecturer and incredibly nice; just make sure you go in with some friends for the film project. Read the bolded terms from the book while taking the test, you don't need to read the chapters. An easy A.
Awesome teacher. Really tough on you to make you succeed. He really taught me a lot. I love this guy!!
Dizney's classes are awesome!
Sick class. Take it for sure. If you dont.. you'll be sorry..
He's great. Hilarious. Has a ton to teach you, both about theatre and acting, and about yourself. Definitely recommended. However, it's a bit hard to follow when stuff is due. Keep track of things! He's a bit scatterbrained.
Dizney is great...and great looking! The class is fun and interesting because you get to learn about film techniques and use them when you create your own movie. Get your equipment checked out early and start filming soon and the class will be a breeze! Go to class and pay attention though...or you will be lost!
Really fun class, performance mandatory but that's because its acting. You will learn a lot about yourself as well as acting. Its worth it even if you have never taken a theatre class before!
Awesome class. Easy and pretty chill. You listen to few lectures, but mostly you watch some really cool movies and analyze them. I'm glad I got into this class. Dizney knows what he is teaching and can really keep you interested. I recommend this class to everyone.
Don't need to say a word. You should take this class for fun and great GPA.
Overrated. Cool guy, but the class is pretty lame. Easy A, as long as you remember to take the online quizzes, which are due every Friday night. I only went to four lectures and still managed an A.
This class should be an add on to your schedule cause it is not very hard especially if you take it with a friend. The key to the class is to get in a good group who wont screw you over. Good class, the final was only 25 questions a lot easier than i thought it would be.
he has been on law and order once or twice, but other than that DIZENY is a horrible professor and he spells his name with a z.
Easy class, fun, but read the text to do well on his weekly quizes online. make sure you have friends in that class because you have to make a movie at the end of the quarter
Cinema is fun but you won't learn much of anything because everything is so generalized and covered so fast that you walk away with hardly anything. The group project is fun. Dizney is smoking hot too. Take this for a fun, easy class.
Dizney is hot and really fun. The tests are kinda BS and you have to do a little bit of reading to get the points. The movies he shows are cool, but you can usually skip them and watch them on your own time. BE PREPARED to make a short film with the genre of his choice. If you don't like working in groups DON'T TAKE THE CLASS!
P-Diz is awesome and Intro to Cinema is great if you like movies. If not, this probably isn't for you.
This class was easy and I loved every minute of it. Dizney is a silver fox. I highly recommend taking this class for an easy GUR. But take it with friends if you can!
Good professor, and pretty fun class. He doesn't give you any homework (except reading). Outside of class you have one film project and weekly online quizzes. He offers 50 points of extra credit, which you should take advantage of. Overall, I'm glad I took the class and recommend taking THTR 201 with Dizney.
Definitely overrated. I really like movies, but not Dizney's class. It is long, boring, and most importantly I didn't learn a damn thing! This class is somewhat easy, but not as easy as I expected. Only take this class if you take it with friends.
His online quizzes are ridiculous. Should be an easy A, but Dizney is the kind of professor who tries to make an easy subject difficult. His questions are subjective, poorly worded, and confusing. Really, this class is over rated. Don't take it- even for an easy GUR. Find something more.. substantial. and for the record, Dizney is NOT hot. at all.
The book does all the work for him. The only reason to go to lecture is so you know what questions are on the quiz, which you will probably get wrong anyway because he words questions so subjectively and ambiguously. Prepare to spend more time than you should on this 3 credit class and a final that covers irrelevant topics not in the study guide!
Relied too much on the textbook to do his job. Always talked about how he wrote the powerpoint slides, but each one had a copyright for the book in the bottom corner. Tests and quizzes were frequently vague. If you insist on his class, be ready to take excellent notes on the films and spend a lot of time outside of class on the movie project.
I really enjoyed this class! Dizney is a lot of fun and I couldn't believe that I was getting credit to learn about movies! Make sure to study for the quizzes. Some of the movies had a rather high rating, but others were fun such as Spirited Away. The workload is a little more than a 3 credit class, but it's fun work, so I didn't mind. Very Fun!!!
I thought this class was supposed to be an "easy A." It was not, I struggled for my grade. But I did enjoy the lectures and the movies, and learning more about how to watch movies. He is very funny, knows his subject and is very passionate about it.
Dizney's really cool. The class is fun for the most part. The quizzes suck though. Read the textbook and you should be fine. The movie project isn't hard as long as you don't procrastinate and your group is organized and not too ambitious.
Funny, smart, engaging teacher. Great play selections and class discussions. Quiz questions to vague. And yes, something about him...he is sexy.
Class with Dizney is fun because it's mostly theatre students who've worked with him before, so everyone can be relaxed in the class. He could do better with play quizzes, but that didn't bother me too much. He is nice and funny and easy going. Unfortunately he doesn't teach any classes of higher levels, so I can't take another one from him :(
Super smart guy. He knows what he's talking about and is very helpful in answering questions. Also really funny. If you're expecting the class to be an easy A, it's not going to be what you expect, but it still isn't hard at all.
Introduced some new and interesting ideas, but was overly demanding, and graded too severly for an intro class.
He's very funny and an overall fun class, but grades very irresponsibly. Putting in trick questions, misleading questions, and generally trying to make you miss quiz questions by being purposefully misleading. Even if you are comfortable with the material it's hard to get correct answers when every other 5 point question is some inside joke.
Movie project is killer if you don't prepare early. Reading helps, but all info necessary is in lectures. VERY APPROACHABLE. Funny guy, loved his comments on movies. Bring food on movie days, they are really long.
Dizney replaced Mills half way through the quarter. Definitely a positive improvement. He recorded his lectures and put them online in case you missed class. Lectures were clear and easy to listen to.
Easy, fun class. Dizney is super fun but does have cranky days. You don't have to go to class but you will be lost on weekly quizzes if you don't. Quizzes are usually word for word from lecture or book, but occasionally he does throw in questions that are misleading or badly phrased. Start your movie early!!
Class is not difficult. Dizney is interesting and funny. Easy GUR for humanities. You might even learn a bit about film!
Dizney is one of the best professors in the THTR department! He is super funny and makes lots of jokes. You watch a movie every monday, some are good and some are boring. Quizzes were online and they were easy as long as you have the lecture notes. Don't buy the textbook. I did and I never use it.
He's pretty fun but not very nice. Patronizing and will interrupt you mid sentence to tell you you are wrong... when you haven't gotten to your point yet. Great films and info about cinema, tests suck, his power points are helpful but not good for studying. Should take the class if you're down for a bro teacher.
For a 3 credit class, it's not worth it unless you want to major in Theater. It's alot of outside work with the film, and talking in class will get you scolded. The text book is heavily used, and not reading it/not going to lecture on the chapters will screw you over on the test.
he didnt care about the class
Dizney is awesome. Go watch a movie. He is very engaging and knows what he is talking about. As for being scolded for talking in class, DONT TALK IN CLASS ANYWAY. The tests are are based on the book so don't even go to his lectures. Just watch the movie. The project is a lot of work, so pick members you know will put in the hard work and effort.
dont do it.......
Very funny professor, awesome classic movies, go to lectures cause what he says ends up on the quizzes. And the project is making a movie so get people who know what they are doing. The experience of the class will depend on what you put in to it.
It is not worth it. He never alerts you ahead of time about anything. You have to figure everything out for yourself and if you don't go to his lectures then you are screwed. Film making is impossible if you don't get started the second you have a team and it better be a good one.
Dizney is so awesome. He is passionate about theatre and film and it exudes from him. I took this class last year from 6-10pm and there were only 8 students in the class so it was so intimate and he had amazing discussions about the meaning of the films we watched...great experience. Read the bold print things in the book and go to class!
He has a sense of humor and is definitely passionate about movies. He is a decent professor and its an easy GUR.
This man is EXTREMELY passionate about what he does. The class was 10 people, lectures felt more like hanging out and talking about movies than going to class. HW was brief reading from text (read the bold print!!) and making a movie. Quizes are directly pulled from bolded text in the textbook. Fantastic experience, will take again.
Great teacher really cares about what he is teaching an his students if you have the opportunity to have him as a seminar professor do it! He took us all out to a movie at the Pickford and pizza really wanted to get to know us. Not always super clear about expectations and he does use the textbook for the tests more than he lets on but overall a good professor and a great guy.
Really funny professor! The class is an easy load because it is only 2 days a week, one of the days being a movie watching day isn't bad either. I recommend taking this class, but you are going to have to work for your A.
I don't know how anyone can like this guy as a professor. He was rude to students who shared, cut them all off mid sentence and said they were wrong before they even got to their point. His power points are completely useless, and lectures informative. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS if you are like me and just need a GUR.
Really enjoyed this class! It was difficult for me at first because I have no prior experience in acting. However, I felt the class to be really fun, and for the most part, Dizney was a great prof. Would recommend for anyone who is interested in an intro level acting course.
His made class pretty interesting and I felt like I took a lot out of the class.
