Dr. Ettinger is superb! Really knows his stuff and has the lecturing thing down. His class was not difficult as long as you showed up every day. Fun guy to chat with during his office hour.
I took this course to simply maintain full-time status, but I learned so much during this course and plan to take another course from Dr. Ettinger in the future. He enjoys what he teaches and passes along the zest for knowledge along to his students.
great teacher and zest for class. if you make the effort to show up and do assignments it's a great class. definately need to study, but he helps a lot with exams and reading assignments.
This guy was very good. We didnt get along (I annoyed him), but he ws a good professor. learned a lot from him
he is a good teacher, but his class was boring
It doesn't get any better than Mr. Ettinger and Al Holland. Ettinger loves to see students succeed and is a genuinely great guy! He's great to talk with in his office and he makes the class interesting by occassionally calling on students as accomplished professors should. Take his class I urge you! Great elective for history majors and non-majors.
Excellent professor! American West and immigration classes very interesting.

I used to hate history until this class, he loves the subject and without you even knowing it he makes you like it too. Great guy too!
He makes history fun and interesting(?)....yes fun and interesting! His grading is pretty average. He talks fast, but i still found him to be easy to follow. His presentation of the history material seemed to be as unbiased as it could be. He also was very interested in staying after class to talk with students about ideas and the lectures, and wasn't trying to rush out the door to go somewhere else
just another average lecture class. 2 mid terms and a few book quizzes...to be honest you could of just saved the 100 bucks on the books you had to buy and just spark note it and get the same grade. Pretty much you had to read the main book, because thats what he lectured about. The tests were average. Just pretty much what you'd expect from a lower division lecture GE
I must be one of the only kids that hated this class. I love hsitory, but this guy is so old school, I just hate it. Plus, he is not funny, why do people try and be things they aren't? A lotof people like 17B better than 17A, but 17A was better for me, proly because 17A was not nearly as boring as Ettingers voice. In his defense, it was a lecture room.
A good course. He is very helpful and clearly wants his students to succeed. Attendance is key because the notes and movies really make it all make sense. I love history and majored in it and this is one of the best courses I have taken.
Seems like he is genuinely interested in what he's teaching. Gives pop quizzes on reading, quizzes on required books to be read (3), and blue book exams for the midterm and final.
just another lecture hall. Tried to be funny, had a decent experience. Buying all his books was rediculous since he just tested you on basically a summary of the books. Sparknotes instead. average at best
I love this guy, he's so funny and knows his stuff. He makes immigration history really interesting and makes it so you understand. Definitly take this class you'll love it. He's one of the best teachers here!! Lots of reading, but totally doable.
Great lecturer! Insightful teaching style. He really makes you to think about US history; not just read it word for word, but how events relate to one another and their significance. He makes US history interesting and I learned a great deal in the class. You'll need to come to class for his lectures and read the required texts to do well.
Wonderful teacher. This class is great for people who don't have a lot of time in their lives.Use sparknotes for the books!I hardly ever read the textbook.Just take notes, study them, and you will do fine. This teacher is super nice and friendly, welcoming any questions in and out of class. There is no extra credit, and attendance is important! :)
Best prof. on campus! This guy should get "teacher of the year". He is a natural communicator--can totally engage the student. I learned more in one semester about history than I have in all my years in school. Makes you understand the relevance of knowing history, not just memorizing facts & dates. Talks fast, but pay attention and you can keep up
A quiz for almost every chapter but he gives a list of questions and you're tested on only one. Midterm and final exam based on lectures, gives 2 essay prompts and you write on one of them. You have to read a few books, but you can just sparknote it and be good. Great teacher and pretty funny. You get all you need to know from lectures.
great teacher! the class is fairly easy. You need to read the chapters because he sometimes does quizzes on the reading. Midterms are an essay and memorizing some vocab. With modest effort a B is easily obtainable.
Ettinger was one of my favorite profs. hes enjoyable to listen to during lectures because he is passionate and animated. if u go to class everyday, reading can be optional, but i suggest doing it. no hw except reading. tests are all blue book so make sure you have an outline for what you are going to be writing about
He is knowledgeable on his topic and can't help but pass it along. He covers a lot of material, quite a bit you've never heard of and talks fast but your able to adjust and he's always willing and able to find for office hours or appointments to clarify and answer questions. It was fun and I looked forward to going, which says quite a bit.
This professor was very knowledgeable, interesting, and aware that not everyone loves history which provided for some comic relief once in awhile. I took this class as a challenge once I knew what was required and pulled through with an A. The tests are blue book and impossible to fake but to me it made it that much more satisfying to do well.
Dr. Ettinger is an excellent professor who obviously cares about the subject he teaches. This is a perfect class to take if you want to learn about this, the "nation of immigrants." Go to class, make your presence known, stop by during his office hours and you'll do fine when it comes to the midterm, 2 essays, oral history project and final exam.
Professor Ettinger does an excellent job of making his lectures interesting. There are 2 exams and 6 quizzes. Make sure you do the reading questions before class because those are the very questions on his quiz. Very nice guy.
Loved this teacher! He gives great lectures and you can tell he loves history! He is one of my favorite professors at Sac State. Definitely take him for this course!!!
Ettinger is a great teacher to take for this class. His work is tough but he is one of the most laid back history teachers on campus and he understands the idea of being a student. Take him for this seminar and you will learn the right way to read and write about history.
Prof. Ettinger is one teacher who you never forget...he teaches you the ""what"" and the ""why"" of history. The ""when"" comes naturally because there is a storyline somewhere in the events. A new and interesting approach for me as a history major. I wish I had more classes that I could take with him.
Once again a teacher that is overrated. He is a nice guy just like almost every other teacher. So many people freak out if they get a teacher that gives them a good grade and a little attention. Be more critical! He is ok, not spectacular. By the way why are Ph.D. professors called doctors? Do you call a J.D. (lawyer) a doctor? No.
Pretty easy class.1 question quiz every week on chapter readings.Gives a list of questions-just skim for the answers.Read 3 books and you take a quiz on them-spark notes or skim them. Midterm and final has a free response to define/identify a few terms(given through PP)+ an essay part, where he gives you two essay prompts + chooses one.Wasnt so bad
Overall a very good professor, interested and experienced in his field. His lectures are fairly clear, and he is very helpful for writing advice. The hardest part was the reading: 5 books + numerous handouts, so stay on top of it. One of the more interesting U.S. history classes, and you'll also learn a bit of world history on the side.
Glad I had him for my history class, is helpful and the class itself is pretty much easy.
Easy class (got an A-)just show up for class and take good notes. I didnt even need to buy the books just cliff note/ spark note them.
Class was extremely boring. Really difficult to pay attention. Reading quizzes were really easy (almost didn't need to read the books!) midterm was average; key terms are essential. He mentioned several times what the essay portion would be, so pay attention (if possible...) seems like a great guy with a zest for the class, it's just boring curriculum.
Professor Ettinger is BY FAR one of the best professors and THE best history professor I have ever taken in my entire college career. He is VERY knowledgeable in his subject and very enthusiastic which makes his class interesting. He's also very approachable and nice! The people who said it was a boring class are very wrong! Take him!!
Lectures are fun because he makes them like stories so it keeps you interested. Three quizzes that are based off of 3 books you have to read, which are really easy. The midterm and final weren't too bad, you just have to know the key terms and the essay topic is all. I loved history after his class, really!
Prof. Ettinger presents history in a very informative and entertaining way. 30% of the grade was based on reading three books. Midterm and Final were 35% each. If you read all three books and do 3-4 hours worth of studying before the big test, there is no reason not to get A in this class. I do not like history very much but this was a fun class.
Such an awesome instructor! he made lecture very entertaining and straightforward. I took this class over the winter for 3 weeks and it was so worth it! I enjoyed coming to class and as long as you go to class, and pay attention you should do well
One of the best professors I've had. He makes the class very easy to follow; you just have to write fast to keep up. He is very helpful and you can tell he really cares about his students education.
Dr. Ettinger is the BEST professor I've had at Sac State. I had originally failed 17B with Kluchin and hated going to her class but I had to retake it and it was challenging but so much easier to understand. He gives you whats on the midterms, quizzes are multiple choice, and he explains everything perfectly through powerpoint. Amazing teacher!
I had no interest in history coming into this class and dreaded having to take this class. However, Dr. Ettinger made a boring subject very much interesting. He is very welcoming and always willing to help. The professor and content of the course are both great, but the whole class is out of 200 points so there's no room for mess-ups.
Great class. Very clear expectations. Approachable if needed. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject. Class was a very positive experience.
No surprises on assignments, quizzes or tests. Really awesome professor! Made class interesting and totally worth it. I also learned things!!
He is very enthusiastic about teaching and motivate students to learn. He is clear and very knowledgable about his topics. His book quizzes were simple. Also his essays for the exam is basically what you know. I recommend this prof.!
Had him for American West last semester. Great guy and a great teacher. He primarily uses powerpoint to teach, and as long as you pay attention in class, take notes and have some comprehension of the books, the class is not just easy, but amazingly fun. I would most certainly recommend his class for anyone, regardless of major.
Best professor I have ever had. Going to class is highly important, though not mandatory, everything you need to know is from his lectures. He is the most personable professor. You can ask him anything and he will give it to you straight. TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Amazing man.
I really enjoyed his class. He made a subject that I did not enjoy a lot easier for me to understand. Midterm, Final, and 4 Book Reviews Quizzes that were simple. I would definitely recommend him.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! At least for history! He has very entertaining power points. Attendance is not mandatory but you should go to get all the key terms. No essay!!! One midterm, one final, and four book essays (the books are actually good!) Take!
He was a great teacher, engaging and funny. He was willing to accept questions and he outlined all of the lectures so that you were able to follow along. It was a rather fun class despite being history.
One of the nicest and most willing to help you get a good grade. I am a terrible writer and this came through on a paper, Dr. Ettinger sought me out and helped me better my paper. Exams are strange forward and easy. The essays can seem easy but he will offer to read them a few days before take the offer, he knows what he is looking for.
it's not a hard class, but you'd want to join an adjunct if you can. it helps a lot! very low usage of the book. there are quizzes and essays. recommended.
interesting class sometimes, really nice prof, i enjoyed his class
Outstanding professor! Just as everyone says, he makes those who hate history enjoy learning about it. I took his winter class and sat through 5 hours/day of lecture and it still was not the dullest class I have had! I suggest taking this professor if you can.
This professor made history interesting! He knows his material and seems enthusiastic about the subject he is teaching. I didn't read the textbook much because his lectures were so detailed and interesting. This professor made you want to come to class. 4 online assignments, 3 in class quizzes on 3 different books, and 2 midterms.
One of the best teachers I've ever had!! Very fair grader on assignments & on the 2 in-class essays. Need to attend class to obtain key terms. I only read the textbook sometimes to better understand lectures & prepare for exams. I wish the quizzes (not bad) were worth fewer points since they can really hurt your grade if you accidentally mess up.
Fantastic professor! Great lectures and funny guy. Must pay attention in class and study, but otherwise it's a pretty easy class. You will learn a lot!
Mr. Ettinger is really passionate about what he teaches and he keeps the class entertained. He makes you want to go to class. Homework & Quizzes are easy, and tests are manageable. If you go to class, you'll get an A. I felt bad whenever I wouldn't participate in class though. Would take him if he taught any other history classes.
Prof Ettinger is easily one of THE BEST professors at Sac State! He's funny, engaging, understanding... he's all-around awesome! I took notes and listened to every word he said and got an A! We were to read four books (I didn't and got As on all the book quizzes). His midterms were straightforward. No tricks. I wish he taught all my classes.
Best GE class I've ever taken by far. He's very straightforward and extremely knowledgable and passionate for the subject if recommend.
Best general education class I've ever taken by far. He's very straight forward knowledgable and passionate for the subject I definitely recommend him!
proffesor ettinger is awesome. he makes the class very interesting and I honestly loved coming to class. he has three tests that are multiple choice matching, but if you go to class and take notes this is a piece of cake. the only tricky part is the in class essay he graded that tough. also have to read books and take tests. awesome teacher though!
This was the BEST GE class I have taken at Sac State. It was difficult, especially as a Winter Course; However, he is extremely understanding and willing to help his students. He is straightforward and passionate about his work. I wish he taught other classes that I needed. I highly recommend him. He made a class bearable.
Very good professor. His lectures are easy to follow and hey points out key terms and essay questions that will be on the test super ahead of time. Pretty low hw load, mostly readings which you don't always have to do if you pay close attention to lecture. He has a cool personality, not monotone, which makes it easier as well. I recommend him.
Coming from someone who hated history, I loved this class! Prof Ettinger makes history interesting and adds humor into his lectures. Do NOT skip lectures, pay attention and read the books [they're not that bad] and you'll pass! Awesome prof :)
Ettinger is and probably always will be my favorite Professor. He knows what he is talking about, is clear, helpful and funny! I recommend his class, there is notes to take and quizzes, I mean we are in college, but he's such a good guy it's like you want to make him proud! Best Professor at Sac State!
I loved his class and would take it again. He is very helpful during his office hours and gives good advice. His lectures are clear and interesting. You will have to spend some time readingstudying in this class and but it is do-able and rewarding. This class will stretch you as a student and as a thinker.
HE MAKES HISTORY SO INTERESTING. In all seriousness, that's really it. He has the capability to make you want to know more of the content. He is organized and a very very good lecturer. The books are such a drag to read in the class, but it was worth it. Also, the book quizzes weren't even that hard (10 Questions each, 10 Q for a book?! I know...)
GREAT PROFESSOR! Took the summer class and am SO GLAD I did! Ettinger makes History incredibly INTERESTING and is super passionate about what he's teaching! The books are a great read- especially Warriors Don't Cry. Make sure you TAKE GOOD NOTES in class and study them, use those notes for the homework. He's super helpful if you need it.
He was an awesome guy. Just four assignments, three books to read, one midterm and one final. He gives two prompts of what you have to write on. He will choose one randomly for both exams. Make sure you go to his class often!
Wonderful class. This is probably one of the best professors at CSUS-Sac! Makes history fun (which is a rare case). Work for an A and he will give it to you.
Professor Ettinger is an amazing and funny professor. He loves what he teacher about! His exams are part multiple choice and the other part is a writing response to a prompt. This is a class that requires reading and he has multiple other books that you have to read apart from the textbook. Attending the lectures will help you a lot on the exams!
As an ME major, I gained so much knowledge from Dr. Ettinger. He is clear in his teachings and has helped me appreciate my veterans benefits through this course. I would highly recommend 17B over 17A with Dr. Ettinger. I worked hard for my A and gained more than a grade, respect for the past. I would take any course with him again. Lots of reading.
I love Prof. Ettinger! He is hands down the best professor I've had at Sac State. His lectures are great and you learn so much. Don't be afraid to ask questions during lecture or afterwards. He's always happy to answer and help. There is homework but it's not awful. I wish he taught all my classes
Professor Ettinger is awesome! Even if you aren't the biggest fan of history, (like myself), he explains everything in a way that everyone can understand. And if that isn't enough he has office hours where he helps you one and one with any material you aren't understanding. He's funny and knows how to lecture in an interesting way!
History is boring, but he does as much to get you interested. He definitely kept me wake more than half the time! Word of Advice, take notes on your laptop and when he gives you vocabulary words, really take down what he says. The exam consists vocabs and the significance of it. TAKE HIM!!! 2 exams, 3 Books, 4 online assignments. I would def retake
Extremely nice and easy to talk to. Allows you to do late online assignments if you ask. Book not needed. I never opened mine and still got an A. Four supper easy online assignments, one midterm and final is not accumulative. Perfect class for people who want to have an easy semester. Recommend 100%.
Highly recommend you take him!!!! By far one of the best professors at sac state. He makes history extremely interesting. I took the Winter Class and it was a lot of work but it was doable. If you work hard and do the homework you will earn an A. I wish there was more proffersors like him. Would definitely take again !
Professor Ettinger is probably one of the more interesting professors at sac state. His HIST 17B class is fairly easy but there are required book readings (& quizzes) along with lots of textbook reading (really helps). His exams are straight forward and are manageable, but the essay portion usually is a little tough. Highly recommend for History GE
Great professor!! His lectures were really engaging. Class consisted of 3 book quizzes, 5 online written responses, a midterm, and a final. Class attendance is not mandatory, but really worth coming. Getting the textbook is almost optional, it helps but can live without it
Really chill guy. Im not a history person but he really made history interesting. Super easy. Only four books and book quizzes and about 6 easy online assignments and that's all the hw you have to do for that class. Easy midterm and final exams. Easy A class. You don't need the textbook
He's really nice and understanding. Textbook and attendance aren't mandatory. He assigns 4 books to read and there are quizzes on them. 3 were really easy and can just sparknote, but one of the books isn't on sparknotes. If you complete assignments and go to the midterm/final review session that he holds, you'll pass.
I would recommend. Tells you in the beginning what he expect and sticks to it. Don't need the textbook to pass.
The BEST professor at Sac State!! His lectures are very interesting and made me fall in love with history. He won't hesitate to help you and encourages you to ask questions. The class was pretty easy but just read the books he assigns! they're pretty interesting! and go to the lectures because they will help you immensely! LOVED this class
Professor Ettinger is very difficult. If you are sick with a doctors note to miss school, he does not care. You have to go to class in order to do well and actually pay attention in class. Also his test essay questions are very hard, because he expects a lot out of you for the questions. Try and take another professor if possible, avoid him
Professor Ettinger is the best History professor ever!!!!!!!! I hate history with a passion and I always fall asleep. He turned my worst subject into my favorite. This class is honestly easy you just have to put in the work and you'll get the grade you deserve. Don't procrastinate with the readings. Don't BS HW & take notes. Guarantee pass
he is okay
I absolutely loved this class. I am not normally a huge fan of history, but Dr. Ettinger made the class really interesting and understandable. If you go to class, you will do well. If not, just keep up on the textbook readings. Definitely would take a class of his again!
worst teather at sac state i had a 69 and he wouldn't give me a c-
Ettinger is a funny guy who knows a lot about history. Whenever someone would have a question, he provided a clear answer. 5 online assignments, 3 novels with quizzes, a midterm, and a final. He doesn't take attendance because his classes are huge but to pass just go to class and listen or read each chapter in the textbook, either should suffice.
Ettinger is one of the best professors I've ever had. Not only is he passionate about the subject, but he is clear and organized in his lectures. He makes the learning accessible in a modern setting, while still being able to convey cultural and historical shifts in the past. He is respectful, occasionally makes dad jokes, and I loved the class.
This one goes to all those freshmen who are about to enroll in history. TAKE HIM, just keep in mind that nothing will be handed to you. If you want that A, you are going to put the time and effort. It's not hard! Ettinger is seriously one of the best professors I've had. FACT: he knows his history. WARNING: he uses every minute of his lectures.
He is a sweet guy and provides lots of feedback. His lectures are heavy and attendece is not taken. Three book quizzes, the jungle quiz was the hardest. Midterm and final are based from the study guide. Also there is six online assighments, super easy. Overall he is a caring and devoted professor.
Ettinger is a fantastic teacher! He explains everything in a way that everyone will understand. I actually like history a lot more bc of him. It's a little bit of work for a presumably easy GE class, but honestly he's a great teacher. It won't be an easy A . Class has midterm, final, 6 online assigments (kinda long), 3 book quizzes attend class
I took the winter intersession class so it was a full semester in just 3 weeks. He made it so easy to digest all that material in so less tim because of how his lectures explained and connected everything so well. I loved listening to them just because of how well he taught. He made such a challenging class so easy to pass. BEST PROFESSOR EVER
Great professor. Easy class. Very lecture heavy but it was interesting to me. Really nice too. Just show up, take notes, study and you'll pass. Not at all difficult. Really easy to understand.
You have to work for your grade, it will not be handed to you. You have to show up to class if you want to pass. There are 3 books you have to read and quizzes for all three. Just a midterm and final. The exams consist of 25 multiple choice key terms matching and an essay. Gives the essay prompts a week before for the exam.
Professor Ettinger was incredibly understanding and fair. He made this class so much more interesting than I thought possible.
An easy class. Show up to the lectures write down the key terms and you're good. Online homework. There are three outside readings and I sparknoted them before class and got an A on the tests. There's a midterm and final which has the key terms and an essay(helps you prepare by giving you a study guide with the prompts). Rounded my 85 to a 90.
Just make sure you attend class and take good notes on his lectures. He does tell you the two possible questions for the midterm and final before you take it. If you prepare ahead of time, you will be fine. He does have you do book quizzes however they are easy, just read a summary and character description online. He is a fantastic professor 10/10
Probably one of the best professors at Sac State. His lectures are very interesting and he posts them online too but show up to class because that's where he tells you what's important to study. Only two books you have to read throughout the semester. He gives a good amount of extra credit. You have a week to do the homework.
Prof. Ettinger knows his stuff, but his lectures are very boring and makes the class seem way longer than it is, and found it hard to stay awake. You can get away with skipping a couple sessions just make sure someone sends you the key terms. Essay questions for exams can be vague or not make a whole lot of sense.
Make sure to attend class and write down the key terms. The midterm and the final consist of multiple choice questions (based on the key terms) and one essay question(he lets you know the prompts in advance). There are two outside readings and 6 online assignments. Also he offers extra credit.
I don't really recommend this professor for who are going to take 17B, cause the HW is so much heavy and exam is so hard, almost can't get A in 17B once you read the syllabus. Tough grader, good luck!
I took his class in my first semester of college and he has set the standards pretty high for how a GREAT professor should be. He is very easy-going, accessible, and truly cares about helping students succeed. The key to receiving a good grade in his class is to simply show up. I definitely recommend taking him! He is the best history professor.
the multiple choice parts of his tests were easy, but he's a really tough grader on the essays. Lots of lecturing and powerpoints. will call you out if you're on your phone or talking lol.
Every class he gives key terms that you need to do well on the exams. Do not skip or you wont get them. Make friends to share notes with just in case. If youre concerned about the exam then go to office hours, he will go way out of his way to help you if you go out of yours to get help. Exams are 67% essay, 33% multiple choice/matching. I learned
He is an amazing lecturer! If you pay attention, you'll really learn a lot. I completely stopped reading the textbook and relied on lectures. 2 book quizzes-easy as long as you read the book. Online quizzes are easy. Midterm and final exams are mostly essays with 25 multiple-choice questions. As long as you're prepared, you'll be fine
I took this over winter intersession and it wasn't bad at all. Knowing the information from his lectures is important. He explains everything really well and didn't bore me. Make sure you know the key terms and their significance that he says in the lectures because they're on the tests. Homework was short answer, read a novel, and teset had essay.
Im a history major and Dr. Ettinger is my all time favorite professor out of my entire college life. He genuinely cares about his students, offers help outside of class, and is very clear about what he wants from his students. The seminar style class he taught was incredibly useful for more than just college credits. Take Dr. Ettinger if you can.
Professor Ettinger is super clear on how to get an A in this class and is very invested in the material. Class can be a little boring sometimes but it's manageable. He makes hokes throughout the lectures and the material is not difficult at all.
Good professor. Lots of writing though. You can get away with selective reading. For HIST179 it was basically 6 papers, 6 quizzes, 6 days to submit our exam papers. Which is 666, and 666 is the number of the beast. The beast is bad. And bad is not good. Thus it is not good to take this class if you hate writing. Chill guy, likely to take again.
He makes the material pretty interesting and makes an effort to engage with students. There's 6 online assignments (one of them is optional for EC) which are fairly easy and sometimes actually really cool (some have videos). Only tests are the midterm and final, both contain essays but if you prepare beforehand you got it. Definitely recommend !!
This class was asynchronously. He gives 2 lectures a week, 5 writing assignments based on the lectures, 2 book quizzes, and midterm exam and final exam. You got to do the work in order to get a good grade. He's a nice professor, gives good feedback and is always there to help. JOIN SI SESSION!!!
Best history professor at Sac State. Posts two lectures a week at the beginning of each week. HW is essentially just an online assignment every week, which is just a few questions based on the lectures. ABSOLUTELY take the SI class, it helps you out a ton and better prepares you for the class. Very organized, responds to emails quickly, and caring
Definitely the history teacher you want to learn from! There's 2 lectures a week that total to about 2-3 hours; take notes on those & you will be ready for everything. Only 6 assignments, midterm, book quiz, 7 final. I enjoyed his lectures and because of that, I enjoyed learning history a lot. He gives helpful feedback on everything you submit.
Was conducted asynchronously. Lots of lectures/reading, lectures is sufficient enough. Do NOT plagiarize/cheat, do own work and easy A. Midterm/Final was submitting a pre-written essay (given prompt week of) and matching vocab. Every other week had assignment with questions. Pay attention in lectures and polish your responses/essays. Caring & sweet
Great! He grades you based on your thinking. 6 short response homework assignments throughout the semester with 1 week of time to finish. 2 exams. 1 quiz. I didn't read the textbook assigned to us because his lectures makes up for it. He goes over everything! Does not do attendance but you will need to be there for key terms that will be on exams.
Prof Ettinger made History 17B pretty fun. I enjoyed his story telling way of lectures making history more enjoyable. There isn't a lot of work, just online assignments( 6 total) where it was just 1-3 questions based on the lecture and he gives a week notice for the assignment. We had 3 test total, a mid term, book/novel quiz, and final.
The professor has interesting lectures and a very straightforward class. We received 1 reading quiz on a assigned visual novel which was a very good read and relevant to the class and lectures. Theres reading assignments that are based on the lectures and textbook. Key terms are tested on and not included in slideshow so attend class to get them.
He is absolutely amazing. He gives great lectures and doesnt give a heavy workload. I 100% recommend you take his class
He's an awesome professor, really took his time to know his students. Course had a book every two weeks with a 3 page paper the second week. Has clear instructions on how to receive a good grade and he provides feedback to improve your writing. Just read the books, participate, and write the papers. no final
Dr. Ettinger is one of the best professors I've ever had. He gives great advice and resources to prepare you for upper division history. He is very open with giving feedback, and is overall a great person. He makes you excited for writing about history and doing research. I am excited to take him again next semester!
Dr. Ettinger is the BEST professor I've had. No matter who you take this course with, it'll be a lot of reading, writing, and discussion, but he makes it manageable. He gives great feedback and sets students up for success and ensures they improve. He's an all-around great person and wants to help. I'd take another class with him in a heartbeat.
Fairly easy class and the professor is a fair grader. Not many assignments, maybe one every two weeks. He isn't an understanding professor though and will refuse to allow make up assignments regardless of the circumstances so be aware.
Well if you are lucky enough to be a history major like myself. Then be prepared to question why you are, this man single handedly made history boring and uninteresting. Lectures are awful, some of the worst I have seen. He is not a very engaging professor and took a very interesting subject and ruined it. The readings taught me more than he did!
Hes the best professor don't listen to these people. Literally broke my scale. His smile will make your day fr. I never went to class and this man was always in a good mood with his students. Fosho a 5/5.
I went in with pretty low expectations, but this class was amazing. He makes immigration patterns and trends easy to understand, makes helpful connections between eras, and assigns readings that really emphasize what was taught in the lectures. 3 essays and 3 mini-essay tests, but they were easy. Just show you did the readings and you'll be good.
The class itself is somewhat easy and not a lot of assignments at all. Only 6 assignments and a midterm and final. Within the midterm and final there is multiple choice portion and an essay. Be aware, he grades very harshly on the essay and expects you to be a perfect writer and practically have a perfect writing. Iffy on if I recommend.
Took over the Summer of 2024. Four online assignments from the textbook, One midterm (2) parts, One final (2) Parts, and one test from The Best That We Could Do. It is DO-ABLE! When it comes to asking questions; he's not very nice (very sarcastic)
Attendance is mandatory for the Key Terms!! He was a good prof even though lectures got a little boring sometimes lol. Make sure to write down the key terms and some background info on them as thats what the MCQ on the Midterm and Final were about. 6 Online Assignments. 2 Major Tests (Midterm & Final), 1 Book Quiz, and an EC Paper.
Professor Ettinger's HIST17B class is manageable with his specific teaching style. Attend lectures, read the textbook, and utilize resources like unstuck AI for study prep. Essays are graded strictly, but the workload is light overall. Worth taking if you're interested in the subject.
Professor Ettinger is a really good professor. He treats you like an adult, but is super approachable too. You only use the textbook a handful of times, so if you can get a free pdf of the textbook, I would recommend that. His class isn't that hard, it's mostly lecture heavy.
Passionate and approachable, he explains concepts clearly and highlights key terms. Fair grading and humor show he cares. Lectures are online (without key terms) to boost attendance. Overall, a good professor! Be ready to study definitions and essay outlines for exams.
Dr. Ettinger is a really nice professor that likes what he does. His lectures are interesting and I recommend you take notes. The final and midterm have 20 questions where you match the term with the definition. Not goanna lie you have to memorize like 50 terms and only 20 are in the exam. You also have to write an essay with lots of details.
I found the instructor's lectures to be long and boring. Not to mention he is highly picky about your writing skills when it comes to his comprehensive assessments and essays. Since I am taking his online course, I won't have to see him in person. However, he does care about each student's individual needs, and is available via zoom.
Very great professor. Very passionate about the subject thats shows in through his lectures. Assignments are great with clear expectations. Will gladly answer any questions about anything. It's obvious he wants his students to improve on their writing skills but nothing too tough. Make sure to attend lectures and you'll be set.
Professor Ettinger is a fantastic history professor who is always very passionate about his subject. The course has a series of online assignments every few weeks that you shouldn't miss, all based on the in-class lectures. If you want to do well in this class, make sure to either attend all classes or have someone assist with notes.
