He is really tough guy... However he explanes all material pretty clear. U'll have to write huge paper and u'll have couple exams. He'll ask u to be familiar with a Bible and u'll have to know all books. He's hard but fair professor.
his work is hard but he is willing to help at anytime - if you have trouble with your paper ask him - he'll go over to the library and practicllay do it for you in the end.
It may seem that the class is too much work, but it's not. He fully explains all the readings and you will understand it in class whether you read it the night before or not. His tests are fair.
if youre willin to do alot of work than take him.. otherwise drop his class

His class seemed really difficult in the beginning but its not, he assigns a lot of reading but he explains EVERYTHING in class, his tests arent that difficult and hes extremely fair when it comes to grading.
He requires u to know a lot of information for the tests, but it's not that bad. He's really cool and understanding if u talk to him. Helps u out with the research paper.
This professor is very lenient. No Hw is required to pass the course. Just come to class everyday to collect the class handouts, study them once the review sheet is given to you and I guarantee you will get an easy A. He has a great sense of humor.
He really teaches with a lot of passion. He is fun and easygoing, but he makes you earn your grades. Tests are confusing and tricky, but very passable. If you want to learn about theology take him, if you want to just cruise through then look elsewhere
HARD TESTS .. NO HW .. EXPLAiNS EVERYTHiNG .. 1 BiG PAPER BUT HAS YOU DO iT iN SECTiONS TO MAKE iT EASiER .. LOTS OF HANDOUTS .. NO TEXTBOOK .. VERY VERY HELPFUL iF UR LOST OR HAViNG TROUBLE .. iF U APPLY URSELF UR STRAiGHT
just an all-around awesome guy. a bit sarcastic at times, but in a funny way. big semester project, but all u need is a little bribe for an A, right Flanagan?
Possibly the best professor at SJU! I loved him and his class. He makes the subject interesting and you will be hard pressed to find a more likeable guy. He will really go out of his way to help you. If you don't take him you're nuts!
I don't know anyone who has made theology more interesting. The prof teaches energetically and always wants to make sure everyone getting it. The 6 books need to be brought down to at least three - too much $$$ - put more on reserve.
at first he seemed hard, but he really isnt. his tests are easy if u read the material. he goes over the readings in class, so its not so bad. he curves a lot, and its easy to get an A in his class
Great professor, funny, helpful, goes over EVERYTHING, not hard at all.. exams are very str8 forward.. and curves like crazy as welll.. so overal GR8
Great professor, very helpful. He's very lenient and has a good sense of humor. [Here's your hot chili pepper, Flanagan]
He was one of the best teachers that i have had.Just go to class he makes it fun and is very interesting. He doesn't make it feel like a theology course.
greatest loud irish story-telling priest. teaches with enthusiasm and genuine care for students. without a doubt the best
teaches with passion.. however, he gives a lot of reading.. final is much harder than his first 2 tests.. makes you remember people's names which makes theology kind of boring towards the end of the course. overall, a great guy. take him if you're really good with people names.
At first I did not like him but he turned out to be a great teacher. He is very understanding and a funny guy. His tests aren't too hard if you actually read what he gives you. AND we got to watch the Birdcage :)
Very good teacher. Has a nice personality and will help you in anyway that he can. I was dreading the group project at first, but it turned out very well. The tests are essay, but he gives you the questions beforehand. He let us watch several movie clips to bring his points across.
He is an awesome professor especially for a class that isnt that interesting. Class discussions are histerical. Gives essay test but questions before hand and as long as u take notes ur fine and read the book(easy read). AWESOME!! I would take him again if i could. Not a hard A.
had this class at 730 in morning and didnt like going at first. he's not too nice at the beginning of the course but by time you are at end i loved going. funny guy and great teacher. changed my mind about some things.

funny and interesting good debates
Best Theo teacher at SJU- interesting topics and very nice man
Great guy - very funny - Likes to tease his students a LOT! Presentations very clear, class in actually enjoyable to go to - he keeps your attention well... I def recommend highly!!
awesome professor!he's really helpful, postponing tests and due dates just to make sure we understand what we're studying.provides review sheets which is exactly what is on the tests, doesn't try to trick you. just keep up with the work and u'll do fine!
He is the best professor ever! You definitely walk away learning so much! The presentations were fun and the tests are so fair! He's not out to trick you, wants you to learn. Tells you what's going to be on the test in review sheet. If the class does bad, he'll let you take it over. So nice, take him
Best theo prof. We had 2 takehome exams and and final project. Very understanding.
dont whine about having to buy 5 bks. they're the same price collectively for a textbook, and cheaper if u buy them used. the class is interesting, and hes really really a wonderful professor. the way he lectures stimulates the class to debate. never boring except toward the end when we do textbook material easy A
He is absolutely one of the best professors here. He lets you know what is on the tests and they're take home exams. He's very fair. Do yourself a favor and take him.
I loved this class! Very insightful professor, always concerned about his students learning, the book selection was very good, very relevant, discussions/debates were interesting people in my class were very engaged in the material because of its relevance
He is very easy! he gave so many extra points on test- easy A- and he is interesting too
Greatest professor of all time. Listen and you just might learn something.
Amazing professor! A lot of fun and very interesting! It does not get any better then this,TAKE HIM!
He's the man! You must take him if you want to have actually learn something while having fun at the same time! Extremely down to earth! MUST TAKE!
yo this guy gives so much work its unbelivable, makes us do 2 book reports or a service learning thing, and on top of that we have a group project and we have tests
Such a cutie, omg, he's go this cute gotee going on. Every day I stare at that fitt, bustly man of steel as his professes his Theolgy mightly strong! If I only had a nickle for every time he made me blush!!!
Great Prof., just needs to learn to stay awake when the daily news is around

Oh how I love Flanagan!! Do not take this course if you're looking for an easy A! He is definitely not the one. The tests are challenging, but he helps you any way he can. There are also two book reviews and group work. He is so funny! The course is fun and interesting, take it if you have no problem doing some work. You'll be rewarded at the end!

He's cute in the face, gives a hefty amount of work, so make time for that. In class he's an entertaining jolly fellow.... i say take him do some studying and you should be ok.
yay flanagan's the man! midterm/final are very straightforward, plus he basically gives you the questions beforehand. other than that, 2 papers, plus daily seminar papers- you really learn a lot by doing them. highly recommended- take him!
Flanagan's immense workload (1 paper due every day, 2 longer papers, and two tests) makes this class not easy but definitely interesting. I learned a lot plus the tests were not so bad because he gave you a lot of the questions beforehand. I'll be taking him in the future for other theologies.
definitely not an easy a. tonsssssss of work. but you learn so much. id take him again in a heartbeat.
Flanagan is the man!
mad awesome, ALOT OF WORK, I didnt read a single document he assigned. I can to class and took notes. He gives you a review sheet for the midtermand and dismisses the class and leaves, You go over the review sheet with the class, the next day u come back, he gives you the samereview sheet only on top is says midterm
hes so funi!! this class is awesome and very very easy. if you get anything below an A- you are an idiot :) bottom line. he literally gives out the midterm to study from. hes a great teacher
Not what I expected, but still okay. Midterm and final only. This is intimidating for many, especially people that aren't good at taking tests. No worries, he gives you a review sheet for midterm that basically is the midterm, and for the final, he gives you the topics to study for. He makes mean comments in class sometimes, but all in good humor.
great sense of humor, easy reading assignments if you even choose to do them, straightforward midterm and an oral final. really, this is an easy A you're gonna need later on in pharmacy. flanagan's the man

AWESOME prof. The syllabus makes it look like the class is gonna be really hard but it isnt. Theres about 2 or 3 papers i dont remember and a midterm and a final. If you want a good grade you need to obviously do the work and go to class. Jolly man who likes to eat the students food and gives out money when you get questions right! Very funny!
Took Flanagan at 3. Kept me awake and actually interested in religion! Funny and great story teller. Not hard at all. Has readings but I did little and still got an A. Gives you review sheets for exams and then mixes them up and they become the test. Wish I knew he was at SJU for my ohter theo courses.
professor i know you're reading this so i'll put in a good word. BEST. PROFESSOR. EVER. cheers, would love to take the course again! (not really) jk
This class looks hard at first, but I'll tell you this, it's all worth it in the end because Flanagan's as good as it gets. Without a doubt the fastest 3 hr class you'll ever have, you will enjoy every minute. Very intelligent and hilarious too, lectures are very interesting. Surprisingly, an easy A. Strongly recommend.
Like some professors, may seem to present this facade of being the "hard" type but as the semester progresses, you'll see that he's not that bad. As long as you're up front, on time, and not disrespectful (using cell, talking, etc.), it's not that bad at all. Trust me, I've had much worse Theo professors (this is the 2nd time I'm taking him).
I took Honors Theology with him my freshman year. If you don't have a problem writing 30 papers, one due per class, then ok. Writing skills will greatly improve if you take this course. Cut class and he doesn't take it personally just hand everything in on time. Test is hard if you read. Papers must be emailed by midnight the day due (that morning)
Great professor, really funny, class is not boring at all. Take-home midterm, final consists of two short papers, and 30 questions and two short questions. Come to class, sit in the front, answer one or two questions (the easy ones), you'll get an A.
Although he may come off as a difficult professor, he eases up at the end and is an easy grader.
at first he seems intimidating and there are a couple papers due the first two or three months, but there are only two tests and a final. and he always sends past tests or the exact questions that'll be on the exam. attendance isn't mandatory and you can just show up for exams, but he's such a funny guy and i actually learned a lot!
Most work done at semester end. He is big on this group project which is not tough but working with my group was but my group sucked altogetehr (he assigns you don't pick :() Flanagan can be overwhelming at first but in end his classes can be fun and he is caring teacher. Little too anal about computers though, but hey I got my A so good luck.
Great class! Get let out early almost all the time. Lectures are really straight forward, but you need the book to answer the tests completely. 2 take home tests, final was half take-home and half in-class. Go to class bc he notices when you're not there.
Loved Flanagan's class. Had him at night and he kept the class interesting and funny. I didnt like the group thing so much because we got stuck with someone who didnt do anything. He was good though he met with us every week to go over our presentation. Love ya Flanagan - your "back row" girls ;)
He does come off really adamant about his beliefs and at one point I really didnt think he liked our class as a whole. But at the very end, he was very generous with the grading and even when grading our take home exams and papers! definitely take him over anyone else for moral theology.
This class was GREAT! All my Theologies at SJU have been awesome. This class was very interesting and engaging, but at the same time easy, which made it a pleasure to go to. Prof is awesome. dont let the cleric clothing fool you, he is really down to earth. I would recommend this class to any one! EASY A!
Flanagan is a nice and funny guy, but a little lost when it comes to poverty and talks about it way too much. He is way too liberal in his views of taking care of the poor and who should take care of them. One thing that is good about him unlike other teachers is that he respects different views. The poor will always be around Flanagan remember.
Makes you read a lot but not that hard of a class.
wooooooow
IF you have time, take him. Otherwise you'll be spending every week writing a paper and reading a book. Hes not hard but you do earn your grade by writing the papers, participating and doing a good group project. Overall great man with interesting view points.
Great professor. Don't take anybody else. Easy class if you do all the work. Assigns about 50 pages of reading every week, for which you have to turn in a response paper. Not bad at all. Definate easy A if you do the work.
His tests are long and over 100 questions. He gives you almost all of the answers, but there is still a lot of memorization. You have to read a book and write a report. You also have to do service learning. Be prepared for a lot of work!
Nice guy. Didn't like him at first. Kind of mean even. As semester goes on he gets nicer and even lets up on the amount of work. His tests are long but really not hard he gives you old tests but not the answers.
Easiest class ever-he gives you the tests a head of time and you just find the answers. If you manage to screw that up, he lets you retake it and average your grade. He does not keep track of attendance either. If you have no interest in theology but have to take it as a requirement, take him.
Great Class and hes nice if u get on his good side.
nice guy..but gives alot of work. only take him if you have time to read 7 books throughout the semester and have time to do the hardest film project ever
He tells it like it is but is still gentle - a rare combo for a Catholic priest and professor. Flanagan is the man.
He is a very nice man. Nice to talk to. Humorous as well. When I went to his office to pick up a test, my friend and I talked with him for an hour and would have talked longer if it was not for the fact that we had another class to go to. His tests might be a little long, but not that difficult. BTW, he gives out actual money. I made twenty bucks
best professor ever. easy A
Flanagan is cool. No textbooks, a lot of reading early on, but less later in semester. A YouTube project is a chunk of the grade, it's a pain in the neck, but that's the only real work. He gives questions for midterm & final beforehand. Definitely take his class.
Very nice professor to talk to. Practice for his test with the copies he gives you access to because they're pretty much the same thing, the power points in class have no correlation to the test.
You have issues if you do not take him or drop his class. He is one of the best professor I ever had! Give you the test questions beforehand so all you have to do is study and you will get 100's. Only 2 tests, youtube project, and a paper. Make sure your group will do work otherwise your going to have problems! Got an A! A MUST TAKE!!!!
Flanagan is the best!! The test was given before hand, so you have a week to come up with the answers. His youtube project was a pain, my group did not do so well , but i still got an A for the class! there is a paper that you have to write, but if you pay attention in class, its very easy.
Flanagan is the man! Gives you the questions for tests before hand. No papers or assignments. great class, i actually enjoyed the discussions because he keeps them interesting. really nice guy too and will like you if you contribute to the class.
Great prof, Highly Recommended. 3 tests, which he gives you before hand so its a very easy A. Huge Seinfeld fan, so if your ever stumped, think of a way to relate your answer to Seinfeld and you will get credit for it lol. Gives out money for certain questions if you answer them correctly. Def take him whenever you can.
Really nice intresting prof. Comes x as rly hard @ beg & then gets easier altho hard on grading of projects. His tests are easy cuz he basically gives u them, but gives these group projects that is 1/4 ur final grade. Same grade for everyone in group. Dont have choice who is in your group. I lost my A bec my group sukked. Id take him again tho.
Best theo teacher funny makes for interesting class. enjoyed going although u didnt have to its good to go so he knows u. one easy asignment every week, midterm n final look hard 30Qs but was easy and he grades fairly, and 10min group youtube project that kinda annoying but not rlly that hard
Best theo teacher funny makes for interesting class. enjoyed going although u didnt have to its good to go so he knows u. one easy asignment every week, midterm n final look hard 30Qs but was easy and he grades
I love going to Flanagan's class. He actually makes subject interesting and keeps it real. Work is really not hard. I didnt read textbook and got an A for midterm. You can just look at other ppls blackboard post and figure out what to write. But take him just for the laughs. His stories are great and he makes fun of himself all the time.
GREAT MAN! Funny, helpful, and isn't a hard grader. Take him if you can, definitely a geart theology professor.
He makes the class interesting but he is a tough professor. He's OK!!! Not so great
Flanagan is a good guy and teaches in a very succinct and clear way. He gets his points across. One annoying group project, 2 tests that he gives you ahead of time. Not too bad and easy to do well.
One super annoying group video project that has to be on YouTube. A LOT of reading. He explains everything. We had two exams, a midterm & final. He gives you what will be on the test so it should be hard to fail but people still managed to. He is easy to talk to and makes class entertaining enough to not fall asleep.
Fr. Flagigan is a nice guy and with minimal effort you can get an A. Three exams and a group project( which was super annoying). Each is worth 25%. He gives you the exam material before the exam , so there is no reason for you to fail( if you do there is a make-up) He's very connected to students and it's easy to tell he cares.
I LOVE FLANGAN...really cool guy, good sense of humor but big paper at the end but NO HW needed to pass the class...
Took course online. Prof is good guy emails constantly but hard teacher. Had to do alot of hw for every Friday. If you miss it, he doesn't let you submit :-(. If you keep up with it though, you can get A. I did :).
You can't not like this professor. This professor is so cool and open minded to what he teaches and offers to students. And plus, he does prepare us to be better thinkers and readers individually. If there's something about his class you don't like, you can suggest it to him so he can make the course better for people next time. Good professor!
Father Flanagan gives a lot of homework. That being said, it is very easy as long as you keep up on it. Do the readings, participate in class and you'll be fine. One midterm and one final which he gives you the questions for beforehand. Best lecturer I've ever had. Great guy.
Yes he does give a lot of homework but it's only one day a week and not that bad. As long as you read the textbook, you should be fine. No midterm or final. Only two papers. Second paper involved more work than the first one. Really understanding about any problems you might have. I love reading the textbook, it's really interesting.
Pretty interesting class. I enjoyed the topics we covered and the discussions were nice. He did have pretty early deadlines that I always ran into issues with, because it was during the middle of the day when I was still in class. Plus there was a lot of reading and discussion, so be warned. Besides that, it was manageable.
tells you exactly what is on the test. assignments due on blackboard based on chapter reading every week. skim through chapter and youll find an easy topic to discuss. helps your grade in the end. takes attendance. may call on you. wants class to be involved in lecture. overall good and nice professor.
Very good class. He's very helpful and his lectures are great. There is a ridiculous amount of homework though. Some test questions were not on the material taught, but he usually gives you the exam to study from so it's not bad. He also answers any questions you have by texting. Overall, I'd recommend him, just be prepared to do a lot of work.
An amazing guy! Gives you the short answer questions before all the exams and posts his previous exams. Homework can be tedious but it's essential to getting an A. He's always a text away if you need anything and he sometimes gives you money for answering a question in class.
One of my favorite professors. he's really straight forward and gives A LOT of extra credit opportunities. there are assignments from the books due every class, tests are straightforward and he gives you all the open ended questions before you take it
Hands down best professor at STJ. Strongly encourage that you take him. There is a no attendance policy but his class is so great that he makes you want to come. Only downfall is that you have a homework assignment every week but they are extremely easy. Gives you the midterm and final beforehand.
Reviews and clearly explains what you are working on, doesn't trick you on tests.
14 Easy Mini Essays (1-1.5 Pg each) (35%), 2 Teacher Evaluations (5%), Group Project (20%). Midterm and Final (20% each). The midterm was 20 short answer questions that he gave you before hand. You are able to work with him to get all the answers before the test. The final was 6 questions with a few sub questions for each questions.
Great professor!
He is an amazing professor maybe the best i have had in my 5 years at st johns, he is passionate about what he teaches so the class isnt ever a bore. the tests arent a surprise he will give you exactly what the questions are before hand. if you atleast skim through the readings and participate in the discussions you should be okay. must take!!
a lot of work. 2 major group projects, a paper, and midterm and final. it is deff doable tho, stay on top of your group and he gives all q's for midterm and final beforehand. he wants you to do well so if you ask him to look over stuff he will and tell you what to fix. very accessible and an engaging prof
Flanagan was quite a bit of work (a lengthy group project, midterm, and final), but overall he was a very good professor. He was passionate about what he taught and his lectures were very interesting. I would definitely recommend him!
Took his theology and healthcare ethics class online. read chapters, do the weekly post, 2 papers (one you had to interview people for), 1 poster project, it's a lot of work but you'll end up learning something. Very accessible by groupme and understanding
Professor Flanagan's class is a lot of work, especially if you take it online. However, it is definitely worth while and he is a very generous grader. He is very understanding and you will do well as long as you actually put the effort to compose decent responses. If you are not a lazy student you will do fine in the class.
Decent prof who makes class go by quickly. Have no interest in religion but he actually made it interesting. I just REALLY didn't like the group projects. No need enough work already and every student knows only two or three students do all the work. Get him also to drink water and not Diet Coke.
Not easy course. Professor killing my summer vibes giving hw every night. You have to post answers to reading 1 nt and other nt you have to look at classmate posting & answer questions. Didn't too well on first homeworks, but he pushed me and now doing well hopefully to get A :). One good thing is gets back to you on GroupMe in no time.
Such a great and caring professor :) He is so enthusiastic during lectures. Says on the first day of class that attendance isn't mandatory. He also gives you the midterm and final questions beforehand. The only downside of the class is the group project (time-consuming and assigned groups).Easy A. P.S. gives out money for answering questions right
Prof Flanagan has fascinating lectures and wants everyone to enjoy and get the most out of his class. He likes to hear everyone's opinions. HW is reading and then 7 questions, just skim and you're fine, lots of opinion ones. Gives you all the Midterm questions ahead of time, he pretty much reuses the same test each year. Best professor I've had
He makes lectures interesting and loves to joke with his students. Easy to reach him through GroupMe. The group project is to make a 10-12 minute video. He always gives exam questions ahead of time. Create a Google Docs with the class or do them yourself. I memorized the answers and got a 100 every time. Just put in a little work to get that A.
This guy is truly amazing! Such a caring individual and will never let you leave if you don't understand something. He gives so many options for you to get a good grade. he also gives out money for answering questions. He's super relatable and funny and just an all around great guy. Some discussions, midterm and final all easy cause he goes over it
Really admired Prof Flanagan. Made course relevant. Students able to get As because every class had clear work to do. Gives reading assignment & videos but don't have to do them all. He's also Catholic priest & able to receive my *weekly* criticism of where the church is wrong & knows little about science & medicine. Great discussions with him.
He is a great prof. He really wants you to do well. There is weekly hw, midterm, and final. It is not too hard since he gives you the old questions to study from for tests. You just have to put time and effort in. His lectures are good too. He uses a lot of videos. Be ready to pay attention and answer questions in class. He randomly calls on you.
Professor Flanagan was a pretty chill professor. Even though it was online he always replied quickly on group me. His weekly assignments were a little lengthy sometimes but he was a really easy grader. The mid-term paper was also straightforward. I would def take him again. He's pretty much an easy A. TAKE HIM!!
Professor Flanagan is one of those guys you won't find often. Super funny, connects and engages with class. HE GIVES YOU THE MIDTERM AND FINAL from previous semesters and picks roughly 40-45 questions from there and adds new material taught in class. There is a writing assignment due every class but its easy! Cite from the texts he gives you!
Father Flanagan is one of the nicest and caring professors you'll meet at St. John's. His class does have a lot of assignments but you'll enjoy daily discussions in class and his energy. Definitely take him if you have the opportunity
Flanagan is the GOATT. Class was intense harder than some of my pharmacy classes. He expected us to post every day for the summer session. Really tho THE best online course and theology I have had at St. Johns. Professor responds on GroupMe very fast, grades every day, and comments on everything. Really wants students to succeed.
Very inspiring professor. Very knowledgable and passionate about subject. He wants all his students to succeed and while there was a lot of work in the class the professor makes sure to make the work engaging and interesting. The level of work you put in will be equivalent to the grade you receive. Totally recommend taking this class.
Great professor! Definitely cares about the material he teaches. Runs a class GroupMe as a way to stay accessible during Covid-19. Not an Easy A but definitely a doable one if you put a decent effort into each weeks assignments. Once a week assignments consisting of usually 5-10 short answer questions on the 2 readings we had.
Father Flanagan is perhaps the best professor at St. John's. I have never met a man more in love with his profession. He works so hard for you to understand what he is teaching and grow as a person.
Professor Flanagan is one of the best professors ive had at sju. 200-250 word discussion posts due every class based on readings, a midterm, and final exam. He also loves hearing positive and negative feedback from students in order to satisfy his class. You can tell he truly cares for everyones well being. Take him if you can.
Really wish I had taken him for my other theology courses. He made it interesting although his tests are impossible even though he basically gave us the questions. I actually went to class. His generosity to us with food and money during covid didn't hurt either :)!
Easy grader for daily hw's. Tests are hard but he gives past tests with almost the same questions. If you don't want to work, this is not the class for you. Lectures are really good, but it's just the questions are self-made and not directly in the slides.
Father Flanagan is one of the best professors I've had at SJU. He made a mandatory class that I was not looking forward to taking enjoyable. He really cares about his students and his class is a fun, comfortable environment. His tests weren't too bad but he does let you use printed notes to take it and he allows you to retake them.
