Patrick is awesome! Makes lecture interesting, easy class, very fair and willing to take input about what the class wants. Young and understands what it is like to be a student. He does grade participation very harshly so make sure you speak in class and see him in office hours at least once.
The class material and lectures were easy to understand. He explains stuff well and leaves plenty of time to review for exams. Textbook is required but you won't need it. Basically everything you need to know will be in the slides. Do participate in class though, I never missed a class but got a 70 for my participation grade.
LOVE HARRISON. He is one of my favorite professors at UNC. He expects you to attend class and participate, but if you need to miss he is super understanding. His tests are straightforward. He's a pretty young guy so he's really relatable. I took stats with him and I'm in PSYC 501 with him now and taking 270 in the fall. RECOMMEND!
The best professor that I've ever had at UNC. There's absolutely no math involved and if you study for twenty minutes before the test, you're guaranteed an A. Attendance is taken by polleverwhere, so I usually show up for the first five minutes of class and then leave. Definitely would take again!
Professor Harrison is my favorite professor at UNC. He's easy to reach, super cool, and makes stats funny and engaging. He also makes himself available for things besides class (asking about different areas of psychology, offering to write recommendations once he knows you better, etc). Makes an effort to know his students. 11/10!
Dr. Harrison is my favorite professor at UNC. He's so caring and engaging, he even made stats fun for me. He genuinely cares about each student doing well and making the material understandable. Participation is a huge part of the grade and the TAs help a lot with the assignments. I strongly recommend him and plan on taking more classes with him.
Love love love Dr. Harrison! He's friendly, approachable, and tries to make lecture as fun as possible - even though the subject might be terribly boring. Participation is 20% of your grade and matters a LOT, so do show up to class - even if you don't want to. Recitation assignments are super easy, and tests are fine as long as you study.
Dr. Harrison is easily one of the best professors UNC has to offer. He makes a terrifying subject (Stats) approachable and easy. He knows nobody enjoys stats and tries to make it as easy and understandable as possible. His tests had 3-5 questions that were oddly worded and tricked us, but he asked the class for feedback b/c he cares. Take his class
Chill and laid-back professor! Lectures are relaxed, somewhat boring. Recitation assignments, exams, and Poll Everywhere make up the bulk of grades. The oversimplification of lecture materials is a bit misleading when it comes to exams. No math involved at all. Simply knowing the basic information is not enough; make sure you REALLY understand!
This is my second class with Dr. Harrison, and he's brilliant professor. While I liked him in the first class I took, it was clear to me that he took feedback seriously, and he adjusted elements of his teaching accordingly. He is very easy to reach out to outside of class, and makes material engaging and easy to understand.
Patrick is my favorite prof. at UNC. I took PSYC210 with him last semester, and sprinted to take one of his classes again. It's always clear that he's on the same team as his students, and he keeps class interesting; I have margins on my notes filled with his hilarious quotes. He also genuinely cares about his students too and is fair/reasonable.
You can tell that Dr. Harrison really cares about how his students do. If you put in the effort, this class isn't too bad. It's also really interesting.
Dr. Harrison is a wonderful professor. He is funny and interesting, and lectures are rarely boring. However, he does have a very meditative voice that makes it hard to focus sometimes if you are tired. If you study hard, tests aren't bad. He is helpful with papers outside of class.
psyc210 overall isnt math heavy, it's just conceptual. you use a program to do the math for you, but you learn what the program is doing to get the output and what the output means. patrick is so cheesy, it's wonderful. tests aren't too bad, he tries to make them clear and not too tricky. weekly recitation assignments are easy.
He tries to explain the material in an understandable way, but he just doesn't. Bc he tries to make concepts conceptual & not math related, he ends up making them more complicated & difficult to understand by substituting concrete terms/ideas w/ words like "thing" or "stuff". I can see how some people'll'd understand his teaching style, but I don't
Favorite professor ever! He's hilarious and he makes the subject material interesting. There are 3 exams and 10 recitation HWs. The exams are not hard, but definitely require a solid understanding of the material. He tries to make the exams as easy as possible; none of the exams are cumulative. Participation counts and he gives extra credit.
PATRICK IS AMAZING! He is straightforward and an excellent teacher. He cares so much about his students and wants them to achieve! He is knowledgable and wants to share his love for psychology. I've taken psyc 210 and 270 with him and loved both classes. The group "paper" in 270 is not complicated and completed (mostly) in recitation.
Dr. Harrison is the man. Hes funny, down to earth, and very smart. He presents the material in a way thats easy to understand and wont move on until his students get it. He stays after every class to answer questions and is always nice. The TAs help a lot too and recitation is good for understanding the materials. Its a cool class!
Professor Harrison is one of the most considerate professors I have ever had! He truly cares about his students and values our feedback. The TA's usually grade tougher than he does. There was only one midterm but it was pretty easy. Definitely a doable A if you study.
One of the BEST professor I got in UNC. He is so nice and he always explains concepts very clearly. Also, he is always there to help and he can even help with your problems applying for an internship!
Patrick is amazing. I've had both PSYC 210 and 270 with him and he knows me by face/name. He is funny, caring, and super helpful when you want feedback or clarification. He makes learning somewhat dull topics fun and interesting.
Patrick is awesome! Take him for 210 and 270 if you can! He makes difficult concepts so much easier to understand and he is an awesome lecturer! He is also a very nice and charismatic guy. One of my favorite professors at UNC.
Prof. Harrison is incredibly nice and is by far one of the easiest classes I have taken at UNC. It was WELL worth my time. I didn't find the material particularly interesting, but his up-beat mood definitely made it better. I shot myself in the foot by not taking the midterm seriously but a little studying goes a long way. Easy A if you try.
I love this man!! While my TA was a particularly harsh grader, I absolutely loved Patrick. I visited him in office hours several times, he went over my quizzes and exams with me, and we talked about my plans for research and grad school. Honestly, he is my favorite professor in the psych department, and there's a lot of good ones. Take him!!
Professor Harrison's class is not that easy if you are not a math person. I had to teach myself a lot of the material because he made it more confusing by oversimplifying it. The redeeming part of this class is that he's a super nice guy and he's willing to answer your questions.
I thought this class was hard, but that's because I'm a math person. Patrick dumbed everything down, which is good for some, but not for others. I had to teach myself a lot, especially bc I had the worst TA. I was disappointed with the quizzes in this class as we had barely touched upon the material before. However, Patrick is sweet & passionate.
Dr. Harrison is great. He teaches you what you need to know and makes it relevant to the outside world, so it is understandable. He is always helpful and willing to answer questions. He is also pretty funny during lecture and clearly wants to make sure every student has the chance to succeed.
Had him for 210 and 270. Unpopular opinion maybe: I didn't think his lectures were super organized. When studying I found that lecture didn't prepare me super well for tests. His powerpoints had a lot of funny pictures but not a lot of helpful material which I would have wanted given there is no textbook. He's very nice, go to his office hours.
I was worried for this class because I'm not really a math person, but Dr. Harrison is the bomb. He's funny and is good at relating the concepts we learn in class to the greater aspects of the psych field. Look over the quizzes before the exams, that will help a lot!
Harrison is a great teacher and person. He truly cares about students and wants them to succeed. He makes concepts easy to understand and without using math. I've never taken a stats course so I was worried, but I am doing just fine. I don't particularly find recitation useful though. He also uses poll everywhere for participation every day.
Dr. Harrison is seriously the best prof I've had at UNC. He's super accessible and willing to help his students. He's very knowledgeable about the material. If something didn't seem fair- he's very willing to adjust to help everyone. I had him both for 210 and 270. Seriously, take a class with him- you won't regret it.
This was a pretty easy class, most of it was writing a semester long research paper with your recitation group. All paper guidelines were really clear and if you go through the lecture slides before quizzes, you should do pretty well. Dr. Harrison is super nice and personable too, I'd definitely take him!
Professor Harrison genuinely wants every one of his students to succeed. Hes the type of person who was born to be a professor. The combination of his lectures and your recitation gives you plenty of chances to learn the material in different ways and ask as many questions as you want. If you put in a couple hours a week, an A is easily attainable.
Dr. Harrison is a great professor, and a truly kind, caring, and genuine person. He really cares about his students. PSYC270 is not difficult, but difficulty depends on what TA you have, since they grade all of your papers (which makes up most of your grade). But there is clear grading criteria and sample papers you can use to get that A!
I LOVED Dr. Harrison! He was really chill and was always eager to help. He was constantly looking for feedback from students so that he could adjust if needed. PSYC 210 was pretty easy, 10 rec. assignments, 5 in-class quizzes, and 2 exams!!!
A true Carolina gem. Dr. Harrison is the BEST professor in the Psychology department. Class is very fair and is obviously very organized by Dr. Harrison beforehand. He is more than accessible outside of class and really helped me when some non-academic things came up in life. Take any of his classes, they are all fantastic!
Dr. Harrison is awesome!! Super approachable and understanding. Basically a semester long paper written with your recitation section. Grading is very subjective by the TA's but if you disagree with your grade take it to Dr. Harrison and he will help you understand why you got this grade/if it should be changed. He made the class fun with stories!
Really cool dude!
Professor Harrison is awesome. Such a cool guy who really cares about his students. He makes a material as dry as stats pretty comprehensible and the lectures are quite entertaining. Wants everyone to do well. He never tries to trick you and is always encouraging us in our efforts to make sense of the material. Can't say enough about this man!
Dr. Harrison is very friendly, very resourceful, and cares a lot about his students! He's shared cute pet photos with us before exams to put us in good spirits.
Dr. Harrison is AMAZING. I've never rated a professor before, but he deserves it. The class was awesome before and during quarantine. He is extremely accessible and so kind. All he wants is for his students to do well. As long as you study some, pay attention in class, participate, and put forth good effort on the homework, you will be just fine!!!
Dr. Harrison is such a great person and professor! Research methods is a dry class, but Dr. Harrison does a great job at making it engaging and interesting. The class is not test driven, it's more about the final paper/ research project, but he guides you through the whole thing.
One of the best professor I had in UNC. He really cares about his students. Quizzes is harder than the exam but as long as you come to class, it should be an easy A.
One of my favorite professors at UNC. So caring and such a good professor as well. I learned so much and had a great time in class. Very accommodating when we switched to online learning. 1000/10.
TAKE A CLASS WITH DR HARRISON!!!!! I love him and couldn't recommend him enough! He is really caring and makes a topic like statistics 1000x more bearable than I thought it would be. The work he gives is fair and really helped me to understand the subject matter. 10/10 he is amazing.
Dr. Harrison is a TRUE GEM!! Hands down one of the best professors I have had at UNC. He cares so much about his students and is just a great guy. Tries to keep things lighthearted and fun when possible. He is so knowledgeable about what he's teaching too!
Pat Harrison is hands down one of the most caring and amazing professors I have had at my time at UNC. Psych 210 with him was easy because he is so good at explaining, and the assignments that he gives us are so helpful in ensuring you learn the material. Such a great professor, highly recommend. Seriously, any class you can take w him- DO IT!
Dr. Harrison is the best professor I've ever had. I had never taken a stats class before, but I went through the semester thinking it was so easy because he did a great job explaining things! He cares SO much about his students. During COVID he was very understanding and cared for us. The recitation is super boring though. Easy to get a good grade.
Professor Harrison is the best professor I have ever had. Makes stats extremely easy to understand and I don't think I have ever had a more caring educator in my entire life. If you have the chance to take ANY class with him, I would HIGHLY recommend it.
He's so nice that I feel regretful to take his course during this unusual time - I believe I would learn much more if we had face-to-face classes. PSYC 270 has a group research project with a report paper. It is more difficult than I've expected but luckily he breaks them into steps and it really helps! TAKE HIS CLASS. He won't let you down.
Harrison did amazing adjusting to covid. He made half of the assignments due at the midterm and half due for LDOC so you had to keep up in some form but not every week. He explains everything clearly and thoroughly using examples. You could attend synchronously/asynchronously. He does not drop any low grades so beware of due dates and quizzes.
Dr. Harrison is a great prof, especially during these times. There is a huge paper that is worth a chunk of the grade and most of your grade is broken down by intro, methods, and discussion and then the final paper. It is pretty tedious but he takes the time to construct the whole thing together. Help is provided. Very fair and accommodating.
So I took his class during the totally remote fall semester and was relieved when I found out it was async - but then we had to do a whole bunch of group work for this paper, which was unfortunate because I hadn't blocked those hours off of work. Patrick is very nice and kind but his grading criteria made easy things difficult to parse through.
Dr. Harrison is an AMAZING professor! He was super lenient during the pandemic. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Lectures can get boring at times, but the material isn't too hard to grasp. There is recitation and weekly assignments, but not too time consuming. Just study for the tests and you'll do well.
Dr. Harrison is AMAZING! He really cares for his students and wants us all to succeed! There are 10 homework assignments (about 1 per week) that are easy and straightforward. The midterm was super easy in my opinion but the final was slightly harder because it was more application-based. Statistics is a difficult topic but he taught it very well!
This class was so much fun and quite easy. All you need for the assignments is to attend recitation, and to pass the quizzes just take basic notes. The final exam was definitely the most tricky and bought everyones grade down. Harrison was super nice and easy going and extended deadlines whenever needed, Very understanding as well as the ta's!
Professor Harrison was one of the most caring and helpful professors I've had. He really made sure to be flexible with students and tried really hard to set everyone up for success in his class. He also provides loads of examples and explains complex topics in multiple ways so that everyone can understand.
Dr. Harrison is an awesome professor! You would not regret taking his class because Dr. Harrison makes sure his students understands the concept and do good in his class. He also gives a lot of examples for students to use! I would take his class again if I could. The class material is easy and the exams are very easy. Excellent professor! :)
Professor Harrison did not make any lectures or recitations mandatory to help with the pressure of covid, and all deadlines on assignments were extended until the end of the semester, so nothing was given a late grade. He also gave a lot of extra credit! Best Psychology professor.
The GOAT. Took professor Harrison for 210 and 270. You really can not find a better professor.
Amazing class! Dr. Harrison turned a boring topic into something fun. Lectures are engaging and he really cares about the health and well-being of his students. Breaks down the class into manageable components and has incredibly clear grading criteria for everything. Although it may seem like a lot at first, Dr. Harrison makes it easy to succeed!
Dr. Harrison is the kindest professor I've ever had. He made sure that we learned but not to the point where our mental health was at risk. One assignment per week in recitation, and a few multiple choice quizzes and exams that were open notes. Engaging lectures, he is always very enthusiastic and truly cares about what he teaches!
This class was very easy, and I was able to keep up very easily. Dr. Harrison makes the content super accessible, and also really cares about his students. Definitely take with him if you can!
This was a great course! It was online when I took it, but essentially the whole class wrote one paper together either about COVID or Fake News. It was hard work, but the way Dr. Harrison splits the work up over the semester by the end you feel like it wasn't too bad and evenly spaced. Great professor- really cares for students and great explainer.
Literally the nicest guy ever. I ended up having difficulties due to personal stuff, but he tried really hard to help and was so forgiving. He's so helpful and cares so much about what he's teaching, and I hate stats, but he managed to make it enjoyable. Genuinely the best professor I've ever had.
Dr. Harrison is one of the most caring professors I have had at UNC. He is very knowledgable and more than willing to talk to students about their interests and support them beyond his class. I learned so much from him in both PSYC 210 and PSYC 501.
Dr. Harrison was amazing. He just wants us to learn the material in the easiest way possible and makes sure to answer every question thats asked. I would definitely take a class with him if I were you!
Professor Harrison is great. Super understanding and wants you to do well. Offers extra credit and lots of study resources. Hardest part was the weekly SPSS assignments because my TA was a tough grader, but I still did well in the class. I Highly recommend Professor harrison!
I am so bad at math and was really stressed about taking this stats class (required for the psych major) but Prof Harrison was AMAZING! He's so funny and genuinely cares about his students. He gives great examples and doesn't go super fast and leave you confused like some profs. Now I'm taking 270 with him! I wish we were besties tbh def take him!!
prof H is one of the most caring, personable people I have ever known. he truly does care for his students and does everything he can to make sure we're doing okay. lots of leeway and understanding on assignment submission. if you're honest with him you're probably good to go. best prof I have had at UNC so far. easy pass class.
Such a good guy, and you can tell he really cares about the well being of his students. Doesnt take too much work per week- just watch lectures and spend an hour completing weekly assignment. Short quizzes every other week and one midterm and one exam. Content is spread out nicely, not too overwhelming. Loved this class.
Dr. Harrison is the best!!!! He is so kind snd understanding about your needs as a human and his lectures are amazing. He gives extra credit for making memes related to class content and posts them on the board at the beginning of class for us to see. He makes a rather boring subject quite fun and does whatever he can to make sure we understand it.
Dr. Harrison is the best professor I've ever had at UNC, and definitely the best professor you'll ever have if you take him. He is leagues above; incredibly caring and understanding, he puts in 100% effort to make the class easy and fun, and grading criteria is always clear (and if it isn't or there's an issue, he is consistently accessible).
Easily one of the best professors I have taken since being here. He is compassionate and amazing at making difficult topics easy to understand. Lectures can be a little long and wordy, but attendance is not required so it's no big deal.
Dr. Harrison is quite literally an ANGEL. Stats-based class scared me but assignments/content are so clear it's hard to not do well. He genuinely cares about his students and makes sure you are personally doing well outside of course content! He offers plenty of extra credit and is super flexible. Seriously, take any and all classes with him!
I love Dr. P. This class was veryyyy easy, the only effort that goes into it is the semester long paper ( 20 pages) due at the end. It was a nice breather between my other classes and he is super nice and caring, as are the TA's!
Dr. Harrison is an absolute king. He genuinely cares about students and wants them to succeed as much as possible. He is always willing to lend a helping hand and makes his expectations clear and concise. Love this guy and highly recommend his classes.
Dr. Harrison is one of the nicest and most accommodating professors I have ever had. He is very clear on the criteria for the semester-long paper and helps in any way he can. There are 2 learning checks and a final, but he gives you everything you need to know to do well. You can tell his goals are just helping us learn. Absolutely amazing, 1000/10
He is very clear and accessible. Class was very straightforward, and had a lot of group work. There was a lot of time to do work during class, ask questions and review what to do for the final project paper. Great class with a great professor and would totally recommend.
Dr. Harrison was very nice. I REALLY did not want to take this class and was a little afraid to, but he assuaged those fears right out of the gate. The class teaches about statistics (relevant to psychology) in a conceptual way, not a hands-on way. Don't worry about having to get your calculator out. 19/10.
P. Harrison is by far the best professor I have ever had ( I am a junior). Most professors do not care about you even if they say you do but prof Harrison actually does and it is blatantly obvious. I am so glad I got to take this class with him. He has a weekly assignment (does not take long), 1 quiz every 2 weeks, 3 exams. You can def do it.
cant say enough good things about him. so accommodating and actually cares about our mental health. not hard to make an A if you put in enough work. weekly homework, 4 or 5 quizzes, a midterm, a final, and participation. stats isnt super interesting but i wouldnt take it with anyone else 3
Prof Harrison is one of the kindest and most caring professors I have ever had. The class was very straightforward with an assignment every week and a few quizzes. He is a fantastic teacher and makes a large lecture feel very personal which is uncommon. Definitely recommend him for any PSYC classes!
Everybody loves Dr. Harrison. He is the most respectful and caring professor I've had, and he will do everything in his power to make sure you do well in the course. Definitely go to office hours if you have any difficulty with the material. About half of your grade is based on one paper (16.67% on drafts of the paper, 33% on the Final Paper).
Dr. Harrison is awesome! No other way to put it. He is incredibly caring and understanding. This class seems overwhelming but he really broke it down for students and in the end, you could tell he wanted all of us to get A's. There will be hard times in this class, but it is final heavy and you will likely do well on the final.
Professor Harrison is an amazing professor that truly cares about his students' wellbeing. He goes above and beyond to ensure all students are understanding the course material and are comfortable in his class. He is so compassionate and the work load is quite light. I would definitely recommend!
Honestly, Prof H is basically everyone's dad and everyone loves him. Absolutely take his class, it will be the best decision you ever make.
Dr. Harrison is so nice! There are weekly assignments, a few quizzes, and two tests. All of the tests and quizzes are open notes. He makes learning statistics as simple as possible. There isn't much math involved in this course, it's mainly conceptual. You can make memes for extra credit. Packback is frustrating, though.
There is a reason Dr. Harrison is so widely loved and respected in the psyc department. I took 270 as an online class without taking 260 first and still did very well in his class. He does a great job at explaining the material and making his lectures engaging. He is very accommodating and works hard to ensure his students are doing ok.
Dr. Harrison is the most caring professor I've ever had. He takes in consideration of our feelings as students and understands what we go through. This class is very straightforward and thorough which is awesome to have a class that is very laid back. Honestly, I would recommend Dr. Harrison to anyone who needs to take psych classes.
Great guy. This is the second class I've taken with him and he has yet to disappoint. Super considerate of student's needs and wellbeing. I've never met a person that loves psyc/stats more than him. He's very passionate and wants you to succeed. Don't be thrown by the 25 page paper. You work on it throughout the semester...over before you know it.
The best professor I have ever had. Dr. Harrison is really nice and kind. He is very understanding and put students' well-being before anything else. He is a great lecturer and very patient. Super accessible. If every professor at UNC are like him, UNC would be a much better place academically and mentally.
Best professor I've had at UNC. For a class with some complicated topics, he makes the content digestible and is super patient. His ULA/educational team is also great and, collectively, they really care about your well-being. Attend class, watch tutorial vids for assignments, do the lesson polls, ask questions, and you'll be fine.
Super sweet. Sometimes gave ambiguous answers to questions which made a few MC questions difficult. It was easy to access him outside of class and he was generally not a harsh grader. Homework assignments were usually easy. ULAs were super helpful. Tendency to ramble at the beginning of class. All graded assignments open internet and open note.
Best prof I have had at UNC. He is so caring and really wants his students to learn! Assignments are very fair and if you need help he is super accessible outside of class. I mean he lets you make memes for extra credit. 10/10
AMAZING PROF. Its very obvious that he genuinely cares for his students and he will repeatedly remind you of this. He's also good about giving extensions and extra credit. I was dreading this class, but he made it fun and engaging. The content isn't too difficult, either. Strongly recommend Dr. Harrison and I look forward to future classes with him
Professor Harrison is nice and caring about students. His class is enjoyable and tests are not really hard to finish. I missed a quiz so I only got partial credits on it so that's why I got a A-. But overall he is a nice person and is easily accessible outside classes. He also offer many extra credits so it's not hard to get an A.
Dr. Harrison was an amazing professor -- I cannot recommend him enough. As a non STEM major, I was a little nervous about taking a stats class, but he made the content very easy to understand. He's a professor that really cares about the people who take his class as people, not just as students.
Dr. Harrison is one of my favorite professors I have had at UNC. He is extremely caring and passionate about statistics. I will def be taking 270 with him. The only thing that got me was the weekly assignments because the IAs were a little strict with grading but a lot of feedback was provided. It is hard not to get an A in this class.
Very easy class, and you get the grade you want. It is very easy to get at least 90-95% on the assignments, participation, and quizzes. The final was a little harder than the midterm, but very doable. Harrison's explanations are wonderful, and you should try to pick him if you can. It's a very easy A if you go to class and do the work on time
This man is an absolute gem! If you ever need to take an upper-level Psyc Maymester (which sounds pretty horrible), this is the class to take. The topic was interesting, but the professor is really what makes the class. He does everything in his power to make a 2.5-week semester as painless as possible, while still effectively teaching. Amazing!!
Take any class with him if you can! A great lecturer, makes an hour and 15 minute class go by fast. There are smaller assignments throughout the class but they're generally open note, so just take some decent notes and ask questions when needed and you'll be fine. Harrison makes statistics fun and engaging!
Dr. Harrison is the. best. He not only has a straight forward and cohesive teaching format, but he is timely on grading things and giving feedback. His assignments and quizzes are fair. If you go to class and take notes, you will do well! He takes into account student mental health and even acknowledges the inhumane usage of statistical tests.
Definitely take a class with Prof Harrison. Literally the most laid back professor ever. He cares about his students, but understands that everyone has other responsibilities as well. He tries to make his class as easy to take as possible. I've taken two classes with him already and they've both been great. Really cool guy
Dr. Harrison is a great teacher, and he is skilled at making a seemingly difficult subject easily digestible for beginner level stats learners. Highly recommend this class and any class Dr. Harrison teaches!
I have had Prof Harrison for Psyc 210 and 270 and I highly recommend taking his classes! He is definitely one of the most caring and accommodating professors I have ever had!
Wonderful man. I would go to his lectures and just online shop on my computer with my roommate. He is so funny and caring, he makes the weirdest jokes but he is adorable so it is fine. If you make memes about statistics, he gives you extra credit. Pretty easy class
Genuinely one of the best if not the best professor I have had in the psych dept. He is so caring for his students and he made a subject a definitely would've struggled with extremely easy. He is very flexible with deadlines if you need it, and is always willing to work with you. Make sure to take his class if you get the chance, he is amazing!
He is genuinely the sweetest person and this class was so a breeze to get through thanks to him and the great IA team.
Dr. Harrison is AMAZING. I literally don't have enough room to describe it all. He livestreams class on Zoom, gives grace periods for assignments, quizzes and exams are open-note, there are extra credit opportunities, slides are posted online, etc. etc. etc. He is also SUCH a nice person and a hilarious lecturer. Easy A if you put in effort.
Literally the best and most sincere professor I've ever had at UNC. All Neuro majors should take research methods with him.
Just amazing!! Dr. Harrison is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. He genuinely wants all of his students to succeed inside and outside of the classroom. Definitely recommend taking a class with him!
Dr. Harrison is one of the best professors I have had at UNC. He is so kind and understanding. He acknowledges that we are people with lives, not just students. Psych 210 with him was very doable, and he went very slowly. The final was tough but fair. He prepared us well with in-class reviews and many resources! Take any class with him!
Amazing professor!!! Stats can be really intimidating but he made them very approachable. He is a great lecturer and a really caring professor. Even if u hate stats, this is one of the best classes Ive taken so id definitly recommend.
Dr. Harrison is AMAZING!!! He is so caring and really empathizes with his students. Class is an easy A, so don't worry about it at all; you will have 1 big paper due at the end that you get to work on throughout the semester.
Patrick is potentially the nicest professor I have had here. I strongly recommend taking a class with him if at all possible. He really tried to make sure everyone gets an A and is incredibly kind to students. Every assignment has a 24 hour deadline buffer to help students.
THE BEST PROFESSOR AT UNC!! I love him to bits. If you have to take a stats class, take this one!! I had to take it for a pre-med requirement and I had taken AP Stats before and didn't love it, but I loved this class. He makes everything so easy to understand and he really wants everyone to succeed. TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HIM.
Dr. Harrison is the most caring professor I have ever had. I recommend taking him 1000000% Stats is not my favorite subject, but Dr. Harrison made it easy to understand.
Dr. Harrison is indeed so very kind. I found the course design to be challenging - with it being so large and so writing-intensive, it was challenging to know what was going on. I'd suggest taking a smaller section if it is offered.
Having Dr. Harrison as a professor was a breath of fresh air. If you can take one of his classes as a UNC student, DO IT!!! I can't recommend him enough. He is accommodating, cares about the well-being of his students, and wants his students to succeed!!! The material is easily digestible when learning through him.
I took 210 and 270 with Dr. Harrison. He is the kindest professor I have ever had. The class itself is research-heavy. You will have to conduct and write a research paper (25-30 pages). But Dr. Harrison made it durable. He always writes kind words to us and tells us how much he appreciates our efforts and energy. Dr. Harrison is the best.
Dr. Harrison is great, and any pre-health should take this class if they need statistics. He is caring and doesn't pull dumb stunts or make things too difficult. He is one of the few professors who cares for the mental well-being of his students. The main components of the course are assignments, quizzes, participation, and the midterm and final.
best professor I've had at UNC. genuinely cares about his students and their success.
Dr. Harrison is the best! I was lucky enough to have him for both 210 and 270 and he is amazing. Truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed both inside and outside the class.
Professor Harrison is one of my favorites at UNC. He tries to make the class as easy to understand as possible. The assignments are relatively easy, but the midterm and final were challenging. He is super easy to work with and flexible with deadlines to meet student feedback.
I took Harrison for PSYC210 last fall and my choice to take him again for PSYC270 this fall was one of the best choices I have made at UNC. Dr. Harrison is kind, caring, and one of the best professors I've ever had at UNC. The material in this class is difficult but with Dr. Harrison it's manageable
one of the best professors at UNC! I had him for both psyc210 and psyc270 and still use what he taught me. I highly recommend a class with Patrick, it's an easy A as long as you participate
Harrison is an awesome person, but I just want to warn that, at least in his Psych 210 class, you will succeed mostly if you are an auditory learner. Slides don't really contain any information that is helpful when it's exam time. He tries to assist outside of class, but if you can't process lots of information auditory, get ready for a battle.
I could not recommend Dr. Harrison enough. If I could take any class with him again, I would 100% would. He is so kind and he really cares about his students and their well-being. Dr. Harrison is genuinely such a caring person and he keeps lectures interesting. You can make memes for extra credit in his class. Take him if you can!!
Nicest professor I have ever seen. Tries to present statistics in a very digestible way. However, class can be extremely slow. Additionally concepts are presented in such a general way that it causes it to mush with all of the other concepts we learned previously. This leads to things being more confusing than it needs to be. But overall easy class
This is hands down the best professor at UNC. He truly cares about his students and allows flexibility with deadlines in an effort to allow his students to actually learn things. He will help you in any way he can! Take as many of his classes as you can.
Truly one of a kind. UNC has a gem by having him teach here. He is so caring and truly respects and worried about all his students. He is funny and understand that you are not only a student, but a person as well. 10/10 recommend! Favorite professor at UNC!
Amazing professor and overall person! Super kind, funny, and passionate about what he teaches. We need more like him at UNC. Very responsive to emails and flexible.
A very caring teacher than knowledges the stresses of college students so he is super considerate
Dr. Harrison is the nicest and most caring professor I've ever met. He is accessible outside of class. The class is based on one research paper (~20-30pgs); The paper has separate deadlines throughout the year, so it's bearable. Come to class! Participation is the only factor that could've made my A- to an A. I had a B+, and he rounded me to an A-!
Dr. Harrison is an amazing professor who made the course paper manageable! He actually cares about students' mental health and well-being. Plenty of extra credit opportunities were provided, and deadlines were extended for students to make his class more convenient. Lectures were funny and inspiring, which was needed for the late afternoon.
Patrick Harrison is the most caring, kind, and warmhearted professor I have had a chance to encounter at UNC. He is also an amazing lecturer :)
Midterm and final were kind of hard. Try to get old midterms from a friend to practice. Otherwise, moderate work load. Not the easiest class by any means, but take Harrison. Good guy.
Dr. Harrison is the best professor I've ever had the pleasure of taking a class with. He genuinely wants his students to succeed and he gives great lectures. Everything was open note so if you take good notes in class, the tests are not too difficult. He always responds to emails, even at midnight.
This was my first class with Dr. Harrison (online Summer) and I will definitely be recommending him to others and taking his classes again! He wants his students to succeed, and is passionate about his work. He responds quickly to emails, and is always willing to answers questions. He is by far the best professor I have had at UNC thus far.
Dr. Harrison is very caring and wants the best for you to succeed in his class. You need to pay for an website called packback for the class but the assignments on it are very easy and can be completed in 15 min or less. Dr. Harrison is very helpful and allowed me to gain partial credit when I missed an assignment.
Work is fairly easy if you go to class and listen in class. All the answers for the assignments are mentioned in class and he has a tutorial video for each assignment. I got a B because I barely went to class and got average grades on the assignments.
Highly recommend taking Professor Harrison for PSYC 210. The assignments & quizzes are straightforward and he provides clear rubrics for how he grades. A caring professor that wants his students to learn and succeed! Took this class online over the summer but definitely a class that you can do well in by showing up and completing assignments.
Loved Professor Harrison as a human -- super caring and understands most students are just there for psyc major credit. Makes content as interesting as possible, but his slides are very hard to understand if you don't pay attention to every second of lecture... Exams are hard but fair, and assignments help reinforce what's taught in lecture.
Dr. Harrison is an outstanding professor who truly cares about all of his students. I took this class during Summer Session I and even though the class was fast paced, he made all of the lessons accessible and easy to comprehend. He is also great at dedicating time to prepare us for exams and to review content/assignments.
Dr. Harrison was one of the best professors I've ever had. He taught the material in such a way where you could feel comfortable asking questions, which I really appreciated. His office hours were an amazing resource because they were online, and he never made you feel dumb for any question you ask. You can tell he enjoys teaching.
Actually such an amazing teacher. Very friendly and patient, invites questions and explains the answers super well! Probably the best professor I've ever had, and you can tell he has such a love for this class. He's super helpful and there were grace periods for each assignment, which we nearly always go over in class before submission.
very good professor
Harrison is just an amazing human. He is funny and super smart. As someone who did not know or care about stats, he made the class both enjoyable & understandable. The class is not easy, but he makes it manageable! Plus he loves memes, and will give you extra credit for submitting them! I 100% recommend!!!
There is no doubt that Patrick Harrison has changed a student's life. He so obviously cares about his students and the best thing I did was take him freshman year (because it is a big adjustment, taking a great professor made a difference). I know psyc 270 has a huge paper, I promise it is doable hundreds of students do it every year, you can too.
I loved Dr. Harrison. He was by far one of the best professors I've had so far! He is so so kind and caring and you can tell he really cares about his students and the class content.
Best professor I had this semester. The work is easy as long as you show up to classes and ask questions when needed. I had some complications at the beginning of this semester with my grades, and he was incredibly helpful and quick in helping me solve said issue. If you're a psych major take this professor.
There's not much I could say about him that hasn't already been said, but he's truly the best professor I've had at UNC. On top of being extremely caring and funny (you get extra credit for making stats memes!), he's such an amazing teacher. If you get a chance to take him for a class, do it. Stats can be naturally confusing but he makes it okay!
Very good lecturer. You can tell he cares a lot about the material he teaches. For the class work there were not too many assignments but it's very easy to lose minor points on them due to certain missing parts. For PSYC 210, he focuses mainly on theory and understanding of the statistical analyses instead of performing the calculations.
This class was a bit more difficult than I expected, but Dr. Harrison did a great job explaining things. His grading criteria is clear and the assignments are easy. The midterm and final were slightly challenging, but Dr. Harrison was transparent with the structure and content for both exams.
Not much to say that hasn't been said but genuinely one of the best people ever. So nice and caring and made me look forward to his class even though it was so long. He really makes sure you understand the content and I would love to take another class with him. GOAT.
I absolutely loved Dr.Harrison and would recommend this class to anyone. Tests and quizzes are all take home and open note. Weekly homework assignments are pretty easy and not time consuming. Plus there's a ton of extra credit. Even if you hate statistics, you can succeed in this class if you put effort in.
Knows what he is talking about and teaches it very well. Responds very quickly and clearly. It's obvious he actually cares about his students. Chances for extra credit. Easy to talk to and funny. Assignments have clear instructions and rubrics. Excellent teacher and person.
I can not say enough good things about Dr. Harrison. He is so compassionate and truly wants you to succeed. He offers a lot of extra credit and is always wanting to help you understand everything in the course. Assignments are super easy, quizzes and exams are a little difficult, but they are all open note. Easily the best professor&person at UNC.
This class is very manageable. Dr. Harrison is a nice professor and makes you feel very comfortable. Some of the assignments are a little confusing, but I felt as though everything was fine. I'd recommend the class if only to get to meet Dr. Harrison!
Dr. Harrison is truly one of the kindest professors at UNC. Although it was a course with over 200 students, he made the effort to meet each student's needs to ensure a great learning experience for all. He is very understanding and most, if not all of our course work are open note which is extremely helpful! Take his class!
Very good professor! Everything was graded fairly. Tests were a little harder than I expected but still manageable.
Professor Harrison is a great professor and is very passionate about statistics! He is funny and does a good job presenting the information. He will always accept questions and spends time answering them until he knows the student has a better understanding. Tests are a little difficult but open note. I recommend him!!
Dr. Harrison is the nicest professor I've had during my time at Carolina. He genuinely cares about each of his students and wants you to succeed. I would suggest taking the class seriously though and taking good notes, so you can do well on the quizzes and tests.
Love Dr. Harrison! You can tell he really cares about his students and this class. The powerpoints don't have much detail in them so make sure you pay attention to lectures to get the big picture of the lesson. Although assignments were a bit tedious, the open note midterm and final exam made this class a breeze.
There isn't much here I can say that hasn't already been said - he is one of the best professors at UNC. If you review the TA's materials and pay attention in class you will be set. The material sucks but he is fantastic, seriously.
This class will go down as the easiest I'll ever take at UNC. Grades are 10 assignments, 5 quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final, with participation polls being posted on Canvas, so I never really needed to go to lecture, I just had to do the poll. Also, Harrison is one of the sweetest and most caring professors ever. I can't believe he works at UNC.
Dr. Harrison is so incredibly kind and truly wants the best for his student. He gave us so many opportunities to learn and to improve our grades in that class and his kindness really shone through.
I loved this class, I definitely could've gotten a better grade I just did not try hard enough but Dr. Harrison is the kindest professor out there, really wants to make sure we know the material, and is super understanding. If you go to class and stay on top of assignments you will be set for an A in this class.
Dr. Harrison is a gem of a professor. He offers extra credit and will answer every question you have no matter how stupid it is. If you pay any sort of attention in class, you should be able to get an A. The workload is more than you might want, but at least it is consistent, so you know what you're getting into each week of classes.
Dr. Harrison was the most caring professor I've had so far. Assignments and quizzes were doable, exams were tough but everything was online. Tons of extra credit. Could've easily gotten an A if I put in more effort. I did find it difficult to listen and stay engaged in his lectures; make sure to focus more on what he's saying rather than slides.
very nice guy. Mid term was tough, final not so bad. Make sure you do the participiation polls and packbacks. If you took Stats in highschool it should be light. Very nice guy, but the lectures were sometimes a snooze fest. Overall 10/10
An amazing professor and a great class. I took AP Stats in high school so this class felt more like an extension of that. Professor Harrison does a wonderful job at making the content understandable and clear.
Dr. Harrison is a great professor who truly cares about his students' learning. The class has a good amount of work, but with tools like Unstuck ai and the open-note exams, it's manageable. Definitely worth taking if you're interested in psychology.
Dr. Harrison is very clear in his class structure and makes things as simple as they can be for students. While his class is very writing-heavy (with a huge APA paper), he breaks it into manageable portions. He cares a lot about his students doing well and will be there if you need his support. The grade you get will largely depend on the TA.
Dr. Harrison has been one of my favorite professors at UNC so far! He is funny, heavily interested in the material, and his enthusiasm alone can keep the class engaged. PSYC-270 with him was relatively easy. Just try to do well on both project papers and the final paper! Learning checks and final were open note. Take this class with Dr. Harrison!
I love Dr. Harrison. You can tell he genuinely care about all of his students and wants you to succeed. The main component of the class, the group paper, has very clear guidelines to follow. He made it easier than he could've which is awesome. He has a good bit of extra credit and seems very flexible with deadlines. He's an awesome person!
Dr. H is an amazing professor, and this class is super cool! It's based on replicating a research paper, and it is a lot of group work, but you can change groups if you want. Your papers are graded by grad students, but the guidelines are pretty clear. Many parts of the final grade are easy 100s, so a bad grade won't kill you. Def recommend him!
Harrison is a very kind and you can tell he cares about psych. At times instructions were VERY unclear and was left wondering what I should be working on outside of class. The whole class is a big group project and it is working on one huge paper that you submit at the end. It was interesting, but you have to but in effort for a good grade.
he is my favorite professor here so far. i hated the topic of his class (research methods), but by the time i finished, i loved the topic. he is an amazing teacher, so kind, funny, and helpful outside of class. you can tell even by the first day of class that he actually likes teaching and helping people. he is there to help with whatever you have.
Dr Harrison wants to teach and loves it! His class is so easy, with take home exams and quizzes, and the assignments genuinely take me 10 minutes. He is funny and tries to engage in class, and is very open outside of class. His lectures go smoothly, and while I find them boring, he tries so hard to make them fun. Take him! Easy, fun, and caring!
Dr. Harrison gives take home exams and lots of extra credit. He understands that as a statistician you would be using your notes to complete tasks so he lets you do that on the exam. His lectures are a lot of talking and little interaction, you need to take notes. He works with you on all HW and prepares you for the quizzes.
Prof Harrison is very caring and competent. The course material is easy enough, but I found that the TA's grade the weekly assignments very harshly and I was consistently getting B's and C's on them. Despite this, I recommend the class as an easy intro to stats.
He is super helpful and really wants students to learn. He was lenient on the grading for exams and assignments. He also offers extra credit a lot. I would 100% recommend taking this class, it was very beneficial.
Dr. Harrison was so sweet and funny! he clearly loves teaching and is passionate about psych. Homework was super easy and gives plenty of extra credit.
Harrison is absolutely amazing. You can tell straight off the bat that he cares for each and every student. He always triple-checks to see if everyone understands each topic. The midterm is take-home and the final is in-person but open-internet.
Dr. Harrison is a very nice professor and seems to truly enjoy what he does. All of the assignments are fairly easy and don't take long to complete, and the exams are not too dificult either and open note. He doesn't track attendance besides pollev's, but following the lectures asynchronously can be hard at times - probably worth going in-person.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He genuinely cares about both the course content and his students. He is also very understanding—when I got sick, he made sure that my recovery was the top priority, not his deadlines. I would highly recommend taking his class. The midterm was take-home, and the final was in-person but open everything.
Dr. Harrison is a great guy, but psych 270 with him was horrible. Extremely unclear instructions, every student confused, very few grades, and just simply weird projects. I never knew what was going on, but he is a really nice and fun guy.
Dr. Harrison is an amazing professor that truly cares about his students. He is always understanding and doesn't expect you to know everything. He'll work with you and teaches in a way that's digestible and interesting. One of my favorite professors ever!!!
This class is great. Most of the grade is one big research project. Pick a good group and put effort in up front on the Lit Review and you'll be fine. Lots of extra credit, but also I ended up at >100%. Super kind and caring guy.
Dr. Harrison is genuinely one of the best professors I have ever taken a class with. He is so kind and truly cares about what he is teaching and how well his students are doing. It is clear that he wants the best for his students and will do what he can to make the class easier/more accessible. If you have the opportunity to take his class, DO IT!!
Dr. Harrison is one of the best professors I have had at UNC. You can tell how much he truly cares about his students and wants all of them to succeed. Relatively easy work in the class as long as you show up and pay attention.
Trust the RMP reviews and take him he is so great!
Phenomenal professor! Very passionate about the topics in class! The class itself is very draining in the sense of the semester is spent writing a research paper. Don't procrastinate and you'll do great! If you do, you'll be fine! To me, the content of the class was kind of dull, but it's centered on research, so it's expected. Definitely take it!
Dr. Harrison is a great guy and wants everyone to succeed. No question is stupid to him. The course involves a semester-long research paper, but it's broken up into manageable sections. You are given everything you need to do well (examples, outlines, rubric, data, etc). Attendance was only counted for the first week or so.
This is my second semester with Dr. Harrison after 210. He remembered me and is still so kind and understanding. Amazing lectures, funny, helpful, and fun to talk to. It's clear he cares a lot about his students and loves what he teaches. Highly recommend taking any classes with him if you can.
Very kind and accessible professor who responds fast to emails about any questions. He is there for you so utilize those office hours. Grade is mainly made up of project papers which is just sections of one big paper you compile at the end for the final project.
I took him for PSYC 210 online, and he's very nice and helpful! He's also pretty chill and understanding.
🐐 There is groupwork but it's manageable and he is always happy to help you out
Believe these reviews, Professor Harrison is amazing. I am not a psych major, but I was still able to gain a lot from this course. It strongly helped that Professor Harrison always cared about his students and their comprehension of the material. If you're like me and simply in need of a research and discovery class, I highly recommend this course.
Professor Harrison is kind and accomodating, and this course is super helpful for writing. The course involves a semester-long research paper which is broken up into sections, and there are clear rubrics to follow for each. Take notes during class to make studying for the final easier, as the final is open note! Attendance is through PollEv.
Awesome guy who takes you through how to do a study and write a research paper. He made it all very doable and was always there to help. Quizzes are online and open notes. Final is also open notes, but in person. The major part of the grade is the paper.
