He is very fair and he wants everyone to be better. He helps you make your writing as good as it can be. In the end if you go to class and do your work (which isn't torture!) then you will get a good grade.

Professore Hickey Is A Good Teacher. At first glance one might think he's going to be one of those bad, mean looking professors. But once you get to know him, he really isn't. He cares for his students and their work, in class its all serious, but also fun. He provides a good environment for everyone, all gender, sexual orientation, race and etc.

A little nervous on my first grade, but he's very fair and takes into account your work ethic and the amount of work you want to put in. Always available for help or questions and is all for helping you out. Grades as a whole (as in your whole semester) so meet deadlines, show up, participate and watch sports-he loves them.

The most dedicated teacher I have ever come across. Went the extra mile for his students, including managing to get interviews with people they would normally never be able to get (myself included) and answering emails from students at all hours of the night while still juggling plenty of other things outside of class. Gauges each student level. Which was all over the place this being basic journalism. He challenged each person to go a bit farther than their comfort level, and then did so again. That being said when it came for grade time he graded fairly. Available at all hours for email or FB Qs.

Pat is hilarious! He's the funniest, most relatable professor I've ever had. There's absolutely no reason you should fail his class. He's not an easy grader, but he lets you do as many drafts as you want until you get the grade you want.

Professor Hickey Jr. is such an amazing professor. He grades you by participation and the work that you do, in this case, writing essays. His lectures are about literature. In class, we read a lot of short stories that relate to life and have a deeper meaning.

For ENG 30 you have to read between the lines and submit your own analysis of the stories. Be prepared to write a lot! He is a tough grader, but fair. He points out where you need to improve on, and you have the option to revise your work until you are satisfied with your grade. He helps students prepare for a four-year college.

He doesn't seem like he would be a tough grader, but he is. So make sure you revise a million times over unlike me. Also, he is very witty, and fun I only wish the subjects talked about in class varied a little more.. not all of us like sports, and games and wrestling. He lost me at some points during the semester because these subjects pervaded.

I came into Jrl32 with little knowledge of what it took to make it in the journalistic field and I left a lot wiser. The course is doable but you must be willing to work. The biggest thing you will learn from this course is that the field is changing. You must be well-rounded, in writing and multimedia. For lack of characters, this prof. can help.

Our coursework was very hands-on: we learned to record and edit podcasts, manage our websites and up our social media influence. He keeps you motivated to do better. I took professor Hickey for my Journalism 44 and 32 classes. In the beginning the class wasn't easy being that the reporting requires for us to step out of our comfort zones and learn new styles of writing. He is very inspirational, and care about his student. If you do well in his class, you will go far.

If you want to learn and gain a lot from a class, take one with Professor Hickey. He is genuine, funny, knowledgeable, well rounded, and overall a wonderful person. He cares for his students and it shows through his lectures and feedback. If you pay attention, participate, and do the work, you will improve vastly in your writing skills.

Hickey's a fantastic dude. This course has LOTS of reading and papers. If you're down for that it's totally worth it. He really cares about giving feedback and improving students' writing skills. His discussions in class are hilarious and super colorful. Despite the workload, I'd 100% take this class again.

Mr. Hickey was an amazing Professor. He always made class interesting and I was never bored . Yes he does give a lot of homework but to be fair it was a hybrid class and he gives great feed back. If you keep up with the reading and do the work its an easy A .. one of the best professor I have across wish I could take him again !!

I was out of school for over 6 years before going back. My anxiety was through the roof but the first day in his class ALL of those nerves were gone. Hes a down-to-earth, genuine person and you can feel the sincerity when he talks. I also enjoy his brief breaks from the class to just speak to us as people. This is my first time rating a professor. I will never waste my time giving feedback to any of them. But Patrick is different. he will make you work for what you deserve. I have no doubts he is the best one. He makes you work hard and explore more about yourself. The English 24 isn't just a class to learn English but to be prepared for any level.

He's a great professor. He gives great feedback, gives many opportunities to rewrite your papers, so he really doesn't expect you to fail. Amazing lectures and he's the funniest and most caring professors I have ever encountered. I want to thank him for believing in my writing abilities and pushing me to do better. English is my third language, I was always afraid to speak and to write before, but now with all Professor had taught, I am ready for whatever class I will take in the future. Lectures are entertaining. Lots of reading, daily reading assignment is crucial, it will greatly help on the essays later. Plenty of extra credits to help your papers. Easy-to-fix feedbacks. Fast email response. Participation is recommended. I was the quiet one, but if you show him you are putting in effort, then you are guaranteed a well earned A.

Patrick Hickey Jr. is a terrific professor but he is not for everyone. Class discussions are always lively, but if you're very introverted it might not be as comfortable for you. The grading is clear and fair. The readings are some of the most interesting I've ever read, but they're difficult, and you'll have to read a lot.

I had a great experience in this class. Four days a week during the summer semester went fast and entertaining. If you want to improve your writing and challenge yourself, definitely take this professor. You will have to read 3 books, two essays with multiple drafts and one research paper and final take home.

Prof. Hickey is the best Prof. in my entire 2years. He's osm and funny, always care about his students. if you want to improve your writing and reading skill I highly recommend you to take this Prof. Even though summer is short semester but I learn a lot of things, I don't have words to explain him, and say thanks to him.

All I can say is wow! I usually love my English professors, but Patrick Hickey is by the far BEST English proffesor. He allows you to think for yourself, through the readings hes given. I love having Professor Patrick Hickey Jr. for being the best professor in English class because hes always trying to liven up the class by making jokes and to get your energy going. I was always the quiet one in class but if you follow his instructions on how to do the assignments its quite easy.

Excellent Professor! Young and keeps the class fun. Not your average English class. You will definitely learn a few life lessons and begin to see the world through another perspective. Interesting readings and many chances to get a better grade on the few papers youll have to write. Follow the directions and youll easily obtain a good grade :)

Professor Hickey is a great professor! I loved his lectures because he made me think about life and motivated me to work harder. If youre the one to give constant excuses, do not take his class. You will not pass if you are not willing to work hard. Its a lot of reading and writing but he gives you chances to pass. Also he gives engaging readings

First thing to say is pr. Hickey is one of the best professors in Kingsborough. He gives you unlimited drafts, and that is how you go from C+ to A with 5 or 4 drafts. He will make you work, but you won't even feel overwhelmed because I am sure you'll enjoy the readings and stuff he will make you write. He is so inspirational. Also, he is a writer.

Hands down the best professor I've had. He gives clear grading criteria and gives you plenty of feedback on papers. He assigns 3 papers over the course of the semester and a small final. Do the reading and participate and you will pass. He truly cares about his students and does what he can to push you in the right direction. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!

If you want to learn how to write a decent essay and want to be a writer, take him. He will give you everything you need to pass a class. If you fail the class, that's gonna on you. Lot's of reading, but the point is you will need all the readings to write your paper. And UNLIMITED DRAFTS :)

I dreaded taking this class and decided to leave it for last. The professor was fantastic. He is funny, knowledgeable and willing to help his students on improving in their writing. He was entertaining, engaged and always communicated things in a clear way. I highly recommend taking him if you want to improve on your writing.

For a summer class this was by far the most fun I had. You had what he calls unlimited drafts so you could redo your work again and again with his guidance. He replies to emails in least then 10 mins. He gives the material in a email for the class so no purchases needed. Nothing is hidden from you besides that as a person he is quite funny!

Easily the best professor Ive ever had. You read excellent stories and the papers you write are fun. Gives great feedback on papers on how to improve. Participate as its an interactive class! 100% recommend Professor Hickey!

Prof Hickey is awesome. Requires a decent amount of work so take this class if you are interested in journalism and actually wana learn something. Hes an extremely fair grader and can be reached at any time and go out of his way to help you.

Im a journalism major and this was the perfect intro course for me! However I would truly suggest this class to non journalism majors as well. Very hands on, no textbooks, Prof. Hickey gives you opportunities outside of the classroom if you want them. Im a shy person and this class definitely got me out of my comfort zone. Cant wait for JRL3200!

His lectures are always super fun with great discussions and analysis Gives very good feedback and will teach you how to write the best papers you can. Always available and replies to emails right away. Very inspirational, motivational. Teaches you to be your best.

Prof. Hickey was the most influential person throughout my college career. He cares for his students deeply and pushes them to become the best versions of themselves. As a producer assistant at WNBC, I can honestly say that I would not be the journalist I am today if it were not for him. Id strongly recommend taking any class he teaches!!

Professor Hickey is an awesome person. Get ready to be reading a lot of articles and short stories for homework and discussing in class and he will be picking on people randomly. He loves outspoken people but will pick on everyone to speak. And as for the essays, you can rewrite them as many times as you want to get an A.

Journalism was something new for me to try I didn't know what to expect but as I took this class in consideration. I absolutely loved it, writing has never been more interesting. Interviewing everyone, and going outside to check out different types of stores. But if you are not the type of person who likes going outside I wouldn't recommend it.

Professor Hickey, is a jack of all trades. He's easily my favorite teacher. Never ceases to encourage and uplift any of the students who might need it. His class is extremely easy, just gotta put in the time and work - like any other class. Even if you're slacking off, he'll tell you that you ARE slacking off + tell you what you need to...

He's really the best. Had a massive influence on me and I'm sure he was the same for other students. Strive to be like this guy. As for the class, do your work on time, participate and make conversation. He only wants the best for you and gives you unlimited drafts to get the best grade possible. Just don't slack off, be a little self-disciplined.

Super easy course!!! Fall 2020 one of the easiest English courses I've taken. All assignments are basically due at the end of the semester upon corrections. He was the best professor I've had at KBCC so far. Hickey was understanding but deadlines are not up for discussion. DO YOUR DISCUSSION SHOW UP TO CLASS AND DO THE ESSAYs and you will be FINE.

Mr. Hickey is one of the most chill down-to-earth and clear Professors I have ever had. I took an English winter course in 2022 and I have dyslexia so I was super nervous but seeing how clear and concise his assignments were I could relax. Everything we talked about on zoom was super interesting plus he has a cat.

A professor who will be remembered for a long time. Gives 100% of his knowledge and life experience. Interesting class, but not easy, read and write a lot. If you like to sleep in the morning, it's better not to take this class.

My first time taking JRL44 also called Feature/Magazine Writing with Hickey was Spring of 2016 and decided to take it again in the Spring of 2023. It's is pitching 4 stories would writing which Professor Hickey would explain and throw a Karate Kid reference to Feature/Magazine Writing and his journalism experience.

Patrick Hickey had a very good story to read in his class and only had to type 4 papers. Whenever you don't understand the work, just email him and he will email you back in 5 mins. He's a good teacher. make sure you take his class you won't forget it
