Great class; easy stuff, and everything is explained clearly.
If you ask questions, he'll answer them, but if you don't, you may get lost
He's helpful when you ask, classes can get boring . . .
hes very methodical.. always knows the answer to your question, and his tests are just like the homework
Great Teacher
Had him for Calc 1 for Engineers. If you don't understand Higgens, you're hopeless. He's one of the best teachers I've ever had, if not the best. Incredible ability to break down some of the hardest problems! Test off homework too!
I hated his lecture more than anything and he takes attendance...you'll fall asleep...He was not a help b/c it takes him 40 mins to show you how to do one problem.
Awesome Professor, very nice, answers questions well, spends as much time as it takes till everyone knows what they are doing. The perfect Calc professor. I hope he teaches Calc 2. If you study, you'll pass. Everything comes right off the book
Had him for applied calc II. VERY GOOD PROFESSOR, one of the best for Calc! Explains things cleary and is respectful and helpful. Take him if you get a chance.
Professor Higgins is one of the easiest Calc teachers that I have ever had. All you have to do is take notes in class and pay attention to the examples that he does. He is very organized and very helpful too. There is a quiz almost every Friday, though.
let's face it, calculus isn't easy but higgins is the teacher to help you learn it. best teacher you can have if you are taking calculus for the first time and best teacher you can have if you have already taken calculus before.
Took calc 2 over the summer and failed. Took it with this guy and passed. Real good teacher. Works problems out step by step so you know whats goin on.
Good Teacher.
Very straightforward
Excellent instructor. Everyone said discrete was a difficult subject but he makes it easy to follow and understand.
Higgins is AWESOME, I wouldnt want any other calc II professor, he is very easy to understand, makes unclear concepts clear and is really willing and able to help his students understand the sometimes difficult material. Also, speaks english perfectly
Great Teacher. He makes everything very clear. Nice guy, very fair. He makes everything very clear. Just don't get behind.
Very good teacher. One of the best in the department! If you can take this dude, do it, cuz he makes Calc. 2 easy as sh*t. Easy B with some effort, maybe even an A.

I guess he did a good job with difficult material. I studied my butt off and barely got out with a C. Maybe it was just me. I think he is the best in the department though. He knows his stuff. Good notes and examples.
He is very clear and knows his stuff. He makes the material easier to understand. Don't fall behind and you'll do alright. Take him if you can.
best teacher in the math department, for sure. safe to say he's everyone's favorite. he is american, so easier to understand, because no weird accent. tests aren't too easy, but he's still the person you'll want to get!
He is an awesome teacher. Explains thoroughly with examples, goes over homework, and speaks fluent english!
Fantastic teacher, and a great sense of humor. If you keep up with the homework you will likely get an "A". Posted homework answers online step-by-step! Drops a quiz and replaces lowest test with final grade.
This teacher is terrible. He gives the most challenging tests, so figure me out.if your a nerd you'll love it.If you have a job you must quit it.2 suceed in this course you have to suck it. to be honest this class was hareder than a lever 2.It's like a lever 4 class.Quiz every Friday, and hard exams
Pretty hard class in general I have no #$%#@ clue why it's only a 2000 lvl course. Logic sucks! Third exam was the hardest so watch out! Do well on the first two exams or you're fuct. Professor was good he used alot of examples when teaching, which helps. I did well but I studied my a$$ off.
Good teacher but very hard class. Get good grades on the 1st 2 test. The 3rd u need to pray. He's a good teacher. I would tell anyone to take him. Make sure you study your butt off for this class.
He is an amazing teacher. He knows what he's talking about, good explanations, and always asks if there are any questions. Tests aren't that easy, but if you make it to most of the classes and do the hw when you don't get it, it's not bad at all. I highly recommend him.
I had him for Logic & Proof, and he is one of my favorite teachers at UCF. Very helpful, and easy to understand. Gives plenty of examples, and really tries to get students to understand a hard subject. Tests were no problem for me as they were straight out of materials from lectures. Wonderful guy.
I struggled in mac114, but Mr.Higgins made it easier for me to understand. Quiz every friday which really helps your grade. Grading is fair, extremely helpful and gets students interested in the subject. I am trying to take calc 2&3 with him. His class rocks!
Definitely the best math teacher available. Gives lots of examples and reviews before every test. Lots of quizzes to bring up grade-tells you exactly what quiz will be on. Drops lowest quiz grade-
Absolutely amazing teacher- schedule your classes around this man! Gives ton of examples and will explain when you are confused- tests are straight from the homework. Notes/class/lectures easy to understand. I love him!!!
This class is tough, given, its calculus. You have to do extra work outside of class. He gives good examples and explains everything amazingly well. Tests can be tricky and quizzes every friday gets realy annoying.
awesome teacher. Makes calculus really easy to understand and is VERY clear. Tests and quizzes easy if you go to class and do the practice homework. I would suggest him to anyone taking a math course.
He is an okay teacher but i really dont recommend him if you hate math with an undying passion. He puts a lot of trig on his tests and brace yourself for his test three, just PLAN on failing it because its insane his test reviews leave a lot more to be desired. He did however drop a test which bettered my grade.
Great teacher, quizzes aren't to bad and test are somewhat easy.
an awesome & helpful professor. second time taking it and he was definitely better than the previous professor i had. informations are clear; quizzes and tests are not hard as long as you read his notes and do the hw. he lets you know your current grade after every test you take so you know where you stand.
For the most part the class was pretty easy but you have to do really well on the sections with demonstrations, but he is an helpful teacher. I do recommend taking him if you atleast want to get an B.
This guy is so great! He will go over a subject until everyone understands - a necessary attribute for a classroom full of non-math majors.
okay professor. nice guy but hardly ever has office hours. kind of difficult to understand teaching in class. contradicts the book sometimes. could be better but he isnt terrible.
great professor; easy class if you know what you're doing. you'll swift through tests if you really study his notes and his examples. don't fall behind, try to keep up with homework.
absolutely wonderful class, he will help with anything. not as thorough as he could be, but exactly what he says in class is on the test. so if you dont like calc and you want to learn go to him.
Calc 3 is an easy class, this is a good prof. Takes problems from hw, and changes the numbers. As longs as you did well in Calc 1 this class will be a breeze. Doesn't use complicated integrals on the tests. Just tests on the concepts.
He is an awsome profesor. The lectures are straight forward and the tests are NOT made to trick to you. If you go to class, do the homework he assingns, not mandatory, you should pass no problem or at least end with an A or B... Good proffesor take him for Calc 2...
For calc 2, as good as it's gonna get. Only grades are from 4 tests and a comprehensive final. Tests are not that bad if you do ALL of the hw. He came through big time letting us use a cheat sheet on the final. Nice guy. Easy to understand.
I highly recommend taking Higgins for calc 2,extremely nice guy! Class was not too difficult, just make sure to do the homework. Tests are very reasonable and based off of notes and hw problems. Prof tried to make it as easy as possible for everyone to pass calc 2 but oddly enough, a lot of the class dropped. Let us use a cheat sheet for the final.
Mr. Higgins is one of the best Math professors I have ever had. He thoroughly explains things, and his tests are not created to trick you, like some other profs. Take this class!
Good teacher! Very clear and you know exactly what to expect on exams. Helpful inside and outside of class. Class is not mandatory but GO b/c you will be gald you did
This guy is the best teacher ever. He is very easy and he explains the material very well. i wish he taught me for cal 1...mymathlab is the only things that sucks but the teacher is good.
Very nice guy, good teacher. I enjoyed his class, and he taught the material pretty well.
Very good teaching style, for me at least. He explains how something works, gives an example, and moves on the the next thing. Very helpful when someone has a question. Makes sure the students know what is on the test, even provides formula sheets! (for Trigonometry anyway)
Good professor overall. He doesn't really TEACH anything he comes into the class with prewritten notes and just shows them. I would really only take this professor if you are EXTREMELY profient in math. My mathlab was used for homework, quizes, and tests which isn't that great.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! REALLY EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND MAKES SURE EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS BEFORE MOVING ON. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!!!! WISH I COULD TAKE HIM FOR ALL MY MATH COURSES
I would recommend this class if you are good at teaching yourself math. I barely ever went to class and made Bs on my tests and made an A on the final. All the homework, quizzes and tests are online.
Had him for trig. Good teacher, keeps it somewhat interesting. Tells you what you need to know. We used MyMathLab which was bad and he didn't even like it, but he did his best. Taking him again next semester. Would recommend
Prof. Higgins is a good professor. As long as you attend his classes you will pass. His lectures are so informative that as long as you pay attention the information should come to you. His homework and test are not difficult and he makes himself available. Definitely recommend this professor for whatever course you need to take.
I never went to class but when i did, he was very informative and made sure we understood. Makes math easy. I taught myself how to do it on mymathlab but as long as ou do the reviews he posts online before the test, do the hw and quizzes, you should do fine in this class. I got an A and i had no idea about trig
Excellent professor but goes WAY too fast. I recommend reviewing what is going to be covered in class before attending class because I just could not absorb the information in class, I felt too busy writing notes. Once I did the homework everything became crystal clear.
This course turned out to be fairly easy for me after hours of work with the coursecompass website. You dont necessarily need to attend the lectures if your good at learning through examples over a computer otherwise go to class. Dont need book, just buy the access code and book is online. 3 tests and a final. Do the work and you will be good
I love this guy. Seriously, he's the best teacher I've ever had at UCF. I get so much out of his lectures and do so well on the exams. The class average is so high. If you ever have questions about a problem, he'll help you with a smile on his face. He's very willing to give individual attention. Overall, this guy is an A+ in my book.
I was not impressed with this class. It was hard, mainly because he sppeds through things and doesn't explain them very well. He does examples in class but only the easy ones. The homework, tests, and quizzes are all online.
DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO TEACH AT ALL!!!!!!!His office hours don't help either becasue she can't explain it any better. Gives practice test but they are 50 questions long and then the test are only 14 questions! His class is very boring and needs a perosnality.
Amazing Professor. I had him for Calc 1. I wanted him for the rest of my math career but it didn't work out. Don't hesitate to take him if you have the chance! Best and most professional math professor I've had in my life. Plus he has a pretty funny sense of humor which helps maintain attention. Consider yourself blessed if you get him.
This prof. is just awesome. He may be a bit dry during his lectures, but every now and then he lightens up the class to make sure you're paying attention. The class is super easy as long as you do as he advises and just study the freaking practice tests. They may be a tad long but that's all I did and I got A's on all the tests including the final.
Great teacher. He actually made trigonometry interesting and very easy to understand. Don't buy the book. Study from the my math lab for tests and don't leave the homework until the last minute. Really study the practice finals because the tests are exactly like them.
not a bad class at all. went to probably two lectures the whole semester (seemed like a genuinely nice guy) and got A's on all exams. dont buy the book, just use the MML, make sure you do all the hw and quizzes and all should be fine
Great teacher, really knows how to clearly teach math, he isn't confusing and really cares that you do well on the exams. You can get an A if u listen to him and do the practice tests. Pretty hot as well.
Very good at explaining concepts and problems. Can be a bit monotone at times. So long as you attend class and pay attention, you should have no problem getting a A/B in the course.
Looking at other comments confounds me-Good points: he's nice ,a bit helpful, and will explain SOMEquesions you have.although, his tests are hard, Test 2 was especially. Mymathlab isnt the easiest thing, nuff said. Nice professor, above average hardness/easiness,not as easy as others say. if you are good at math, allright course;if not, will be hard
Great professor! Def recommend. I am not a math person at all but he's very generous with grades and gives a good amount of quizes.
No complaints about professor. Explains clearly & keeps u up to date w/ tests etc. However online system for math classes is probably THE WORST THING ever thought up by a university. U get NO POINTS even if ur method to the answer is correct. If math is not ur best subject, I would recommend starting lower as there is a LOT of material to memorize.
Great teacher, would take again. All quizzes and homework assignments are done online. You have a whole week to do the homework assignment and once you get a 70% on that you can take the quiz which is due by sunday night. 3 tests plus final.
This is my second class with him and he is still the best professor I've had. Extremely helpful, teaches in a way that you get the concept right off the bat. His reviews before the tests tell you exactly what kind of questions to expect and then does examples. He never tries to trick you, just tries to make sure you understand the material.
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. The online homework will teach you how to do the problems. The tests come directly from the homework and all of the trig classes are the same b/c of standardization. Higgins uses problems to explain, not proofs. Puts everything in easy to understand terms for non-math ppl and goes at a good pace. Memorize all of the identities.
Mr. Higgins was a great professor. His notes were crystal clear and he made learning trigonometry fun. Also, he was more than willing to help during his office hours.
I learned so much from Higgins. He really organized the class well and made learning trig easy and interesting. I thought I would hate this class, but he used the class time wisely with examples directly from homework sample questions. Crystal clear and very helpful. Go to class, do the work, and take the practice tests. All that = easy A (or B...)
I dont understand the last couple of reviews...I am majoring in Engineering and would say that math is my best and favorite subject. This prof talks so fast as if this is all review and he writes the notes before hand so he's just zipping through the whole thing. Buy the online book!
Higgins is a great teacher. He rly knows what hes talking about and thoroughly explains the notes. Willing to answer any questions. Has nerdy humor which I find funny. Dont need to go to class, but advised for notes. HW+Qzs are easy. Tests need studying. MML used for everything. I got a B+ and hate trig (any math, rly). I would def take him again!
Awesome professor! Really knows what he's talking about and is always willing to help students. He always gives a heads up about what will be on exams and is pretty clear when teaching. Definitely recommend him.
Higgins is probably my favorite teacher I've had so far. He actually TEACHES unlike no many other professors. He is extremely nice to his students, very approachable, and gives very clear lectures and notes. He gives reviews that really prepare you for the tests. Always go to class because its worth it! Deffinately take his class!
Coolest and best teacher ever and doesn't care about what you do as long as you are doing good in the class. He cares about your grade and is really easy to approach! He's like the Santa Claus of trigonometry!
Teaches by giving examples and showing how to do them. Since the homework, quizzes and test are the same problem with new numbers, its pretty easy to get an A. I really learned trig in his class, and its paid off in higher math classes
Dont need to buy the book at all for his class. Do go to class though or you will not understand anything. His notes are problems we do for hw, quizzes, and test. So take the notes! If you have a question he will answer it. But def go to class!
Nice teacher. Go to class, TAKE NOTES. DO NOT buy the textbook, his notes cover everything. You will need to buy mathlab code though. Homeworks easy enough, tests can be a little tricky. If you don't understand something just ask him.
Great class. You will only do well if you go to class and take notes. Great teacher and makes lecture as smooth and hort as possible. Don't buy the book
Good teacher. Show up to class, even though it's very cut and dry. Easy and fair, homework can sometimes be bad. If you want the notes, email me at [email protected]
Easy class. I missed four quizzes(wasn't intentional)and still ended up with a 87. Hes really boring but he does work out problems. Do the optional test practices, its basically the test. Just go to class the day before the test and he'll tell you the type of problems to study. I stopped going around the end of February since everything is online.
Higgins is a great teacher. His notes are extremely neat! He is helpful, and answers any questions. His pace is perfect, not too slow not too fast. Take him, seriously. He did a great job. You DONT need the textbook at all. Just go to class and do all of the hw/quizzes etc.
He is such a nice teacher! I was struggling in the class spring semester and he went well out of his way to help me pass the class.I would recommend him for Trig because he is probably one of the nicest math teachers I have ever had. He also has a sarcastic sense of humor that most of the students didnt get but i thought he was funny. haha
Higgins is THE man. He did a really good job teaching the subject and always made sure everyone understood the material. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you attend the class you're pretty much guaranteed an A. He gave us similar questions to the test questions the class before the test and for his final he just took questions similar to old tests
Professor thoroughly walked students through the processes of discrete math and critical thinking. Homework was optional. Quizzes and tests accurately graded our knowledge and understanding. The professor was always available to help. Wonderful professor definitely recommend!
The class is not mandatory, but you really do not want to miss class. He doesn't do anything online. He teaches the material really well, and his tests and quizzes are very similar to his notes. You could use the book for help, but if you need to save money don't buy it. I didn't use it once and I ended with an A.
This was an extremely easy class, i even feel too easy. He really spoon fed us. He wrote every detailed note on the board, told us exactly what would be on tests and quizes and never surprised us with anything. If you are looking for an easy A then Higgins is for you, but not if you are looking for a challenge
Currently in his Trig class. This guy literally SPEEDS through the notes, talks while you're writing them so it's difficult to grasp the concept of what he's teaching you. Unless you have a background in this or are simply good at math then he could be a challenge. I passed Stats 1 2 & 3 with flying colors, but am having problems with this course.
Higgins is a good professor, but like all math classes at UCF, Trig sucks!!! plan to spend hours on end doing online hw. Higgins tries to make it as easy as possible, but unless you're good at math, don't expect an easy A.
Its often difficult to find great Math Professors @ UCF.....Prof Higgins is one of them, enroll while you can.
Higgins is probably one of the best math professors I've ever had. He's a pretty chill dude and he explains the examples very clearly in class. If you tend to struggle at math, then I recommend taking his class.
Dr. Higgins is a terrible teacher. I went to him for help and he was condescending EVERY TIME. Extremely boring lecture, he just does sample problems on the projector. Passable, but plan to teach yourself.
Pat Higgins is the man. He doesn't use powerpoint which sucks at first, but i think writing down the notes helps you remember them, plus you'll always have them as a reference. HW's are not as long as college algebra, and tests 1 and 3 are pretty easy if you just do the review homework. Exam 2 was a little more difficult. My grades were 88, 62, 98.
Professor Higgins was hilarious and awesome. He writes every step to every example out for you. He's awesome and you should take him!
One of my favorite professors at UCF. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Works out every step of examples. Crystal clear instruction. If you never miss a class, and study your notes, you don't need to purchase the book. Cracks the best corny jokes.
Hard hard hard class! I had him for other maths and he was easy for those classes, but for Logic and Proof he was really hard. Take someone else!
He was really hard for Logic and Proof. But easy for trig. Do not take for Logic and Proof..super hard tests, and no review before tests.
Quiz every week. Goes over all problems and doesn't put anything on the tests that he hasn't covered. The course can become challenging if you fall behind. Overall, very good math professor.
Super awesome. Really will go above and beyond to help his students. Has really clear lectures. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, it's helpful. You don't need the book if you attend lectures, but the hw he assigns (doesn't collect) is really helpful for tests and quizzes. Would definitely take him again.
I don't know why everybody says he was hard for logic and proofs. I never showed up for class except for the quizzes, just did the homework for practice, and got an easy B. I honestly don't think he could have made that class any easier.
Professor Higgins was great. His lectures were always on point. He assigns homework problems that resemble the quizzes and tests. He was a very generous grader too. You can't go wrong with taking him for MHF 3302. Ignore the reviews that say he is hard. Professor Higgins is by far one of the most fair mathematics professors I have ever had.
I took Higgins for trig and the class was a breeze! I rarely went to class and just did the online hw and quizzes and did ALL the practice test questions and got an A in the class. He's very clear and likes to make jokes in class
Great professor! He's traditional and writes all of his notes out on the board instead of using power points. Goes over things clearly and uses many examples to help get the point across. I would recommend taking him. Just make sure you study and take notes, because this course gets very difficult!
Spring 2010. Higgins makes the material extremely easy to understand and goes at a pace that everyone can follow. I only went to class when i did not understand the material by doing the practice problems. There is online HW and all of the exams are in the computer test center. Wish he taught calculus
He was only of the only Calc3 professors for Spring 2014, I'm glad I got him. If you take good notes and pay attention you can breeze through his tests and quizzes handily, although the final gets hairy because the problems/content are harder. Very nice guy. Just talk to him after class if you need pointers on how to solve something, he will help.
Calculus 3 is already a pretty easy class and Higgins makes it easier. His examples are very helpful and he pretty much tells you the types of problems that are on the quizzes/tests, which are also easy for the most part. I don't recommend the book. Online HW was only 5% of grade and I didn't do any of it, notes were enough to ace everything.
very nice man. Always will help you if you go to his office hours. Can be a little mundane at times but his overall teaching ability is fantastic. Highly recommend taking him for any course.
Professor Higgins is a really nice guy, and I enjoyed his class a lot. He writes his notes on the board, so bring plenty of paper and pens. If you miss a class, you're gonna be screwed. Go to every class, copy all his notes, study them, and you'll do well.
I wasn't very into the course subject, but Higgins is a nice guy who is interested in what he teaches. Three tests, a final, weekly quizzes, no homework. Attendance only needed to take quizzestest, but you need to study outside of class. Tests get hard, but final replaces lowest one.
Great professor. Explains everything clearly. Lets you know exactly whats going to be on Tests. Definitely don't need the book since his examples are good.
Overall I thinkink this class is not thatdifficult. It does require putting in effort and time. Professors lectures are pretty clear about what will be on the tests and quizes. The only thing that tripped me up was material from Calc I & II that shows up. Be wise and review derivatives, integrals (esp. Usubs) and trig identities prior.
Difficulty of course depends on prior exposure to material. He definitely knows what he's teaching and has office hours where you could ask for help. Lecture isn't mandatory, but there are in class quizzes constantly. Tests and quizzes all come from lecture. Take notes in class! Good guy overall. Got an A in the class. Nothing special, but not bad
Really Good. Material isn't the easiest but he makes it simple and straight forward. 10 out of 10 would recommend
Professor Higgins is the best math professor I have had. He clearly states what to study for tests and quizzes. Nothing should be a surprise. The final exam came straight from the tests throughout the semester. All of his notes are excellent. He does not test you on anything he has not shown. Study and you will get an A!
Higgins is one of the best calc professors I've ever had. He's really clear, and concise, and doesn't waste your time. No B.S. His quiz and exam questions are very similar to the ones he does in class, and assigns in the web homework. He drops the lowest quiz and test, and replaces it with the final if beneficial. I'd take him again in a heartbeat.
Professor Higgins has probably been my favorite math professor yet. He's pretty lax on the grading, gives extremely comprehensive reviews for tests, and is very helpful and eager to answer questions. The material itself can be difficult at times, but I guarantee that as long as you show up to class and do the homework you will easily get an A.
Professor Higgins is, thus far, the best mathematics teacherprofessor I've had. Very clear in lectures, teaches both conceptually and through examples, and is very logical. Quizzes and homework every week, tests every couple weeks, and a final based off the tests. If you can, take Higgins. Go to class, and ya don't need the book
Excellent teacher. Really knows the material, and explains topics clearly and with examples. You're going to have to work in CalcIII, but if you put in the effort, Higgins will do his best for you.
His lectures are some of the best I have seen. Though I received a low grade in his class this was my fault due to bad scheduling. He gives plenty of homework to do and though it is not all mandatory, it is a must if you expect a good grade. His tests reflect his lectures and his homework which is nice but you MUST know the material very well.
He's a good professor, but you'll probably fail since his exams are harder than what you are expected to know. At the end of the day you teach yourself with this guy. My friend took him for calc 3 and also failed. There are in fact better professors at UCF that teach this class just as good, but offer chances at redemption, grade wise. Capursi :)
He is definitely a knowledgeable professor (but then again, you need to be when you teach this subject) so I won't discredit him there. However, he is tough. If you are looking to pass with flying colors (while still learning the subject matter) I recommend going somewhere else. UCF offers wonderful other alternatives like Maria Capursi.
Amazingly tough grader. He's very clear about the subject matter. Prepares it in a form that is logical and organized, but at the end of the day you have to do outside research because he does waste time explaining things you should already know. If you're looking for a challenge then he is the professor for you. Not for someone who wants to pass.
The beginning of the semester was the easiest to handle. He made the latter half very overwhelming. Overall, I regret using this website to give me a accurate description of his teaching style, especially when it came to calc 2. He is the toughest professor I've had so far and I'm in engineering. Pick someone else.
I'm glad to see people are realizing his methods for certain classes may be different depending on the class he teaches. Calc 2 is hard period. He tries to make it as easy as possible but fails towards the second half of the class--the make it or break it period--to provide the same kind of clarity.
Great professor just wish I picked an easier grader
If you want to get a good grade without having to kill yourself to get it don't take him. His tests are tougher than anything I've ever seen. His first makes you think it's gonna be that easy the rest of the semester so be careful
His calculus 2 class is hard don't take, math lab will be your home if you stay with him, khan academy and the book your best friends. Easy tests at the beginning hard towards the end, and that makes a big difference on your final grade.
Higgins is a great teacher and does lots and lots of example! I would recommend him again and again. There is a good amount of homework to keep up with and tests can be a little tricky but over all if you study the quizzes and homework then you're good! Quiz every week but simple questions. Homework almost ever class. Do not need textbook!
AMAZING professor. Explains everything very well and with enthusiasm. Does not give problems on a quiz or a test that we haven't seen in our notes. There was a quiz a week, except for the weeks we had on test on. Three tests and a final, all doable. I strongly recommend Professor Higgins. Definitely my best professor yet.
Professor Higgins is the best. Definitely take him! He give back quizzes and tests really quickly. He explains concepts extremely well and goes over a lot of examples in class. He actually wants students to succeed and learn. Favorite math teacher at UCF HANDS DOWN. Also, definitely go to the Math Lab on the first floor, they are very helpful.
Favorite professor at UCF. Lectures are guided by his notes, which he posts on Webcourses before class. Light homework & a quiz or test every week. But he's clear that he won't give you a quiz or test question unless a similar one has been in the notes or homework. If you keep up with the homework, you'll get a good grade.
Professor Higgins is a great teacher, there will never be a problem on the exam that was not in your notes. Study the notes, do the homework problems and you will be fine. He does a good job of teaching the material. I never used the book once.
He is easy to understand and goes through each problem step by step leaving very little room for misunderstanding. I would definitely take him over other professors. If you are a math person this class will be a breeze. If you are good at math you do not need to go to class as he posts all of his notes online.
One of the best professors at UCF, especially for a subject like math. If you get the chance, take a class with this professor.
Very clear and concise lectures. Not many other professors I have taken are able to express mathematical ideas as simplistically. It really helps you learn the difficult concepts. Not the liveliest of lectures, so don't take him if you are prone to falling asleep in class. But if you can stay awake, he's probably your best bet at a good class.
The absolute best Calc III professor at UCF. Weekly quizzes and homework. If you pay attention in class you will pass no problem.
He is the best. His lectures are long and intense, but very efficient. He makes sure you are doing great and gives quizzes every week, so by the time exam time comes, you are ready. Attend class, his lecture examples are exactly what you are going to see on quizzes and tests. He never gives hard questions. No book, updates notes. Calculus made easy
Professor Higgins is the best teacher Ive ever had. His classes are long but he can keep your attention. Thoroughly explains every step and is always willing to help outside of class. Wish I had him for every math class.
Super nice guy! You can tell he's more concerned with making sure you get a sound understanding of the material than he is about making things difficult. He didn't give required homework for our class, but you should get the online code and do a few problems each section to practice. Overall, challenging, but he's a really good professor!
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! He won't put anything on tests or quizzes that he hasn't done in class. He is very clear to understand. Truly a great guy. I didn't think Calc 3 was that hard. Just attend class and study your notes from lecture for quizzes and tests.
really chill guy who doesn't make the class harder than it needs to be. really specific about what will be on quiz and exam. since he was so chill i sometimes got too relaxed about my progress in the class, so do not slack and get too comfortable. if i worked harder, i would have gotten a higher grade. he is helpful in office hours. i recommend!!
Gives you great notes, but dang the class is boring. You better suffer through and pay attention though. The first two exams were absolute cake, but then out of nowhere the last two and final were way harder. Just head that last sentence.
Really enjoyed this class. He's very clear every day about what is coming up and what you need to study. Very good at explaining the topics, and does plenty of examples. Very relaxed class, plenty of notes and examples. The quizzes don't make up a huge part of your grade, so it's worth taking them just to see where you're at as you go along.
Amazing professor. Class is not mandatory except for weekly quizzes as he posts notes online. Tests and quizzes are all more than fair as he definitely adequately prepares you for them and none of it is going to be foreign if you take proper notes/do the homework
Very good teacher, really. I would not hesitate to take him again. He's worth all your time.
Calculus is calculus and will enevr be completely easy. Higgins makes a fair course and gives you a lot of chances to prove your knowledge. Weekly quizzes and a test about once a month. Sometimes tests/quizzes are hard but generally the same. Only thing I didnt like was he was usually teaching 3 lectures ahead from the test/quiz. GO TO SI.
Tests comprise 85% of your grade, followed by WEEKLY quizzes at 10%, and HW at 5%. The HW is extremely time-consuming and while it is indeed helpful in terms of test prep, it should either be made optional or worth more. Oh yeah and it's on Web-Assign.... Quizzes are fairly easy and and the tests can be difficult but fair. No EC or bonus questions.
Amazing math professor. He's one of the best. Teaches clearly, and cares about the students. Every quiz and test was completely fair. When a question was missed, you can only blame yourself, which is the way it should be. Take him if you can!
The best teacher ever. He is so calm and chill and explains the material very well. He explains every problem step by step and also tells you what is going to be on every quiz and every test. He posts all the notes online as well as reviews for each test. Very easy to understand if you get the material.
He is a fricken legend, professor Higgins is an amazing professor as a whole. He doesn't rush his lectures, explains everything clearly, asks if anyone has questions and if you do he will take the time to go over it and explain it. He is also super helpful during his office hours, he will explain in depth for any question you have.
LOVE LOVE!! Best teacher I've had a UCF so far. He does not try to trick you and is pretty straight forwards with his tests and quizzes. Two hw and two quiz grades are dropped. I took calc 1 and 2 in hs and struggled in calc 1 at ucf and was expecting to hate calc 2 here but he makes it so easy to understand! having the background from hs helped me
Good professor. Knows what he is talking about. The course itself is difficult with homework, but he doesn't make it any more difficult. Easy to understand, answers questions, and will work with you for an accommodation.
He takes his time with his lectures making sure that all his students understands every concept. His tests and quizzes are very fair and comprise of question types learned in class, so there are no surprises. Really helpful outside of class, and he always makes you feel welcome to ask questions. He drops the lowest few homeworks and quizzes.
Higgins was one of the best math professors I've had at this school. He is extremely clear and precise with the material that he teaches. All of the tests and quizzes are based off of his notes that he gives in class so that's the only thing you have to study. He's funny at times and understands what his students needs and responses accordingly.
He's great for Calc2! For such an infamous class, it didn't feel that bad through the semester. Weekly quizzes and questions on tests come directly from problems he's done in class. Great prof, taking him for calc 3 in spring.
Probably the best professor I've had at UCF. He is very good at teaching the material and also sometimes adds interesting facts to make lectures more interesting. He doesn't assign any homework and all grades are based off of quizzes and tests but they are not too hard and he goes over examples very similar in class. Very caring about his students.
He only will put the material he covers in class on the tests so you don't have to worry about knowing how to do the crazy problems webassign gives you. Attendance isn't graded but it'll be hard to pass the tests if you skip (he does post online notes but he just covers the basic stuff you need to know of that in class). He responds very quick.
If by some miracle this professor has a green circle next to their class, ENROLL ON SIGHT! It's stupid how well he understands calculus. I had an awful calc 1 prof to then have him. There's things he'll do to streamline the learning process that will be so smooth that you wont even notice if you aren't mindful of how bad it could really be.
