Great teacher! Notes are easy to follow and he always throws in some fun information. Tests are pretty easy if you read the book. However, he does ask lots of questions about his lectures so you have to be in class!

Pat Kelly, fantastic! He runs the show without a textbook. Those are great teachers! Even in a room full of 125 kids he managed to control the environment and keep people informed. Very understanding, tries to remember details about you. Wants you to feel safe with him. I wish I could take him again.

Very helpful in and outside of class, made the lectures interesting and allowed for student input even in a lecture hall class. Has me even thinking about Grad school in history which not my undergrad major. He knew his stuff and from what I hear the best prof in the dept.

He's a hoot. We always had some good laughs in his class. The only thing I found that was "bad" about this class was that I felt I didn't need to go because of his lectures were posted and I didn't learn much at all. Other than that, he's very easy going and it's an easy A. I encourage students to take his courses.

I don't understand how the prev. person didn't learn anything - prob. cause they didnt go to class. he taught a lot - especially encouraging critical thinking through analysis of film, texts, art, primary sources, etc. it wasnt the trad. hist. course w/ dates, facts, figures. if you pay attn to his larger msg, i think you'll learn a lot. take him!

3 test 25% each. 7 quizes that equal 25% of your grade. Post word for word notes online. But his lectures are awesome. But you can afford to miss a few. My favorite professor so far.

Professor Kelly. Some think he is easy. He isn't. The reason you might think he is easy is because the man knows how to teach. Prof. Kelly will make you fall in love with Texas again. He is an amazing story teller and possess a passion that will suck you right in.

There is A LOT of reading, but if you do most of it and pay attention in class, getting an A isn't hard. You WILL have to put in your time to get a good grade though. His lectures are interesting, he posts them word for word on webct too.

Dr Kelly is the best professor I have ever had! I had him for Civil War in America the prior semester, helps out by posting notes on WEBCT, but if you skip class you can't get the full gist of his lectures, cares about his students, encourages you to go out and want to learn about the topic.

i highly recommend Dr. Kelly. he is precise and to the point in his teaching and does whatever he can to help students learn the subject. however you cannot be lazy. there is alot of stuff to cover but he is not nit picky. do your readings, know the main points and you'll very likely get an A. the SI's also help very very much as well.

I was into TX history a little bit before this class, but since taking it, I've gotten way more interested in TX history. I think the text book Prof. Kelly chose is great, and Sleuthing the Alamo is very in depth and interesting. Overall Prof. Kelly is very interesting and puts things into easy to understand terms and it's a great experience!

I took him for Tx Hist. He was a great teacher esp since I'm a bio major. He made the class very interesting. He's a funny guy. If you like someone who lectures the entire time like I do this guy is the right one for you. He lectures from the time you walk in the class untill the time you leave. He gives three Test and about 7 quizzes. I made an A but you will have to read not only the text book but novels also.

Easy class, mostly entertaining lectures, tests are fairly easy if you actually go to class. He does post all his lectures on webct, but its easier to retain if you actually go to class. Weekly quizzes, individual and group averaged, equivalent to a test score by the end. Not hard to get a high grade. Overall, excellent and enjoyable class.

His lectures are interesting and most of what covers is on the tests. To get a good grade on the essay quizzes it is best to put as much facts in them as possible. I am an average student and I managed to get an A by going to class everyday.

Dr. Kelly is really cool. He helps you come up with a topic for your paper and then guides you through the layout. He practically writes it for you! My only regret is that I didn't take him for any other classes... If you get the chance, take this professor!

Kelly prepares very good lectures for his class, and he will give a quiz about once a week. The quiz will be based off the readings and he tells you what to focus on (for the most part). He will give a take home essay test during midterm and a final. TAKE HIM! HE IS GREAT!

Awesome professor - one of the best on campus. He gives an essay quiz once a week - easy if you attend class and read (even skim) the material. Before this class, I couldn't care less about the Civil War - now I'm renting the Ken Burns series from Netflix. And the class is over! I would take any class this professor teaches - he's that good.

This was one of the best classes I have taken at UTSA. I never really enjoyed learning about the Civil War but Prof. Kelly did an excellent job at teaching. His classes are upbeat, fun, challenging (it makes you think), helpful and very insightful. I would recommend him to anyone (even if you aren't a history major!)

The class is easy, mostly because it's the same information over and over again with a heavy bias towards the history of racism in America, rather than a focus on broader historical events. Men went to the moon? There was a holocaust? We fought a war in Korea? Who knows, we sure didn't talk about those events in class.

Best professor I've ever had. I'm not into history at all but he taught his class so well and made it so enjoyable that I even considered changing my major. He makes you want to go to class and he cares that you understand what he's teaching. Took him for US History Civil War to Present. You'd seriously be missing out by not taking him.

I loved Kelly's Texas History class so much that I also took him for Civil War America and his WW2 class. Texas History was a great and easy class. I had to work a little harder in his upper division classes but still totally worth it. He makes every lecture interesting. When people say he's easy, it's only because he's such a good teacher!

Dr. Kelly is an awesome and funny professor! His lectures are interesting and for my MWF class he did podcasts on Fridays so we didn't have to attend class. The quizzes are easy if you go to class- I highly recommend that- if not, READ and study the assigned readings! He also offers extra credit. Definitely one of the best teachers I've had.

Personality is a bit pompous, but he is also passionate about teaching and making lectures interesting. Grade consists of weekly quizzes, two tests and the final. I hate the way he does his grades. 2 midterms 25%, abt 10 quizzes which equals 25% and then a final. Quizzes are sometimes hard. I love him! Such a great professor. I took him for civil war and we reenacted the battle of Gettysburg. I loved him so much i took him for WW2. it was a heavy class with lots of reading and the subject matter is very hard to read in that it is so sad. Awesome teacher! Anyone that can make Texas history fun is a miracle worker! Extremely dynamic and enthusiastic teaching techniques. Also, if you can handle using e-books I found all books required for about $10 each on Kindle. Show up, take notes, listen to podcasts, and unless you wear a drool cup attached to your safety helmet you'll do fine!

Great professor! Class lectures and podcast lectures are clear and precise. Never used the book, just studied my notes which was all his lectures and got A's on every test. Make sure you study a few before class for quizzes. It's not hard if you take good notes.

It's a lot to keep up with...I took the hybrid course (half online, half in class), and he posted a lot of documentaries and things to watch...it was time consuming but interesting and relevant. Such a GREAT professor! I was so dreading taking History, but Dr. Kelly made it amazingly interesting! You should attend class just because he emphasizes a lot of things that will be on tests in class. He does hate if you leave early, so stick it out. He is very straight forward and there were never any surprises. He is always to sure to inform the students on what will be on the tests and quizzes. His podcasts are pretty time consuming but just listen to those and take notes and class, and an A is possible!

Despite not liking history very much at all, I found Professor Kelly's lectures both informative and interesting. If you want an A in the class, you should definitely attend lectures, which are only once a week (after a certain point). Listening to lectures & podcasts is definitely more beneficial than textbook reading, but the book does help.

Professor Kelly was absolutely one of my favorites professors at UTSA. He makes History very interesting and easy to understand. He is very consistent so if he repeats a fact more than once it is most likely to be in the test. Best part: NO CUMULATIVE FINAL! I never read the book and ended with an A. Just attend class and trust me you will pass.

I loved Dr. Kelly! He's funny and gives an interesting take on the Civil War. He is unlike any other history professor and I wish I would have taken him earlier. Weekly quizzes, most will probably be dropped. One assignment and two 8 page long papers, two questions each. Very interesting assignments. Great for non-History majors.

Dr. Kelly is an amazing professor that has a professional, yet laid back teaching style. He has a refreshing approach to Civil War history by teaching it from a global/transnational view. The texts you will read were enjoyable reads as well. I would highly recommend his classes to anyone. He will challenge you to grow as a critical thinker.

Mr. Kelly is a pretty great professor. I love that he encourages & responds to feedback well. He's clever with his teaching style & weekly exams. Great teacher!!!!!! His lectures are posted as 1-2 hours of podcasts weekly and I only met in class once a week. (There was a quiz almost every class over the podcasts, but they were always super easy!) I never bought the book, I just watched and took notes on the podcasts and I did great!! The podcasts are interesting, too! Favorite class ever!

The hybrid format is great; class only meets once a week and there is generally a short quiz in class. He makes it really clear what you need to know, but is VERY repetitive (to the point of annoyance). Kind of a wacky guy, but pretty cool. Quizzes are usually 10 questions plus one bonus, tests are 40 questions plus one or two bonus. Pretty easy.

Pat is a great prof who is available for help and feedback. He is knowledgable in Shakespeare and he conveys major themes well.

Funny & interesting lectures. He does give pop quizzes, extremely helpful since some questions may appear on exam. Exams are typically less than 50 Q's. He might repeat several things in podcastclass but do stick wyou when it come to taking exam. Only read my book when it was exam time. Listen to podcast & during lecture & you'll do fine!

He changed his whole game up. I took him for history civil to present, the second part of regular history credit, and he was so nice and easy going. everything was great. I walk into his tx history class the next semester and now you really have to read, study and write papers. he heard rumors about his class being too easy. he will help, just ask.

Honestly one of the best instructors I've had He's hilarious & approachable. Answers emails promptly. As long as you read material, doesn't have to be thoroughly though - you'll do just fine. He made class enjoyable. Very clear on what he requires from students. Organized & gets to the point. Wish he taught all subjects

It's a hybrid course, so you meet once a week. He's hilarious and his lectures are all very interesting whether or not you enjoy the subject. He answers his emails quickly and is willing to meet outside of class to help. You must read the textbook to pass and also listen to his podcasts. I would take him again any day.

Dr. Kelly was awesome this semester. He is very helpful, gives extra credit at the end of the semester, and he is absolutely hilarious. He makes his class and his online lectures very interesting. I came into this class expecting to hate it, but Texas History has become one of my favorite classes. He really cares about his classes. Great guy!

He's one of my favorites! Proff. Kelly is so funny, his lectures are always interesting. I took a hybrid class so you do have to listen to podcasts. There is a lot of reading that you must do if you want to pass the quizzes he gives at the beginning of every class. Don't blow them off because they add up. Extra credit offered and drops low q. grade

Dr. Kelly is very passionate about history. He really knows what he is talking about. Extremely helpful to his students who need it. He made history exciting. Do the readings and you'll pass the quizzes and in turn the exams. Would definitely take him again.

Dr. Kelly is an amazing professor. He is very knowledge about the subjects he teaches. He is engaged in the class and loves to run group discussions. He is very helpful in guiding students through their college career as well, he's just as good as my advisor if not better! I take him every chance I get.

Great professor. I took him for hybrid class and the podcasts were pretty interesting. Much reading involved and there's 2 evaluations aka tests to be done. Other assignments as well. Fair grader. I wish he taught more classes because I would definitely take him again.

Dr. Kelly is awesome. he truly cares about his students. Took his hybrid so podcast on youtube and then Monday we would have a quiz. No test in class but 4 papers. Would take again.

Professor Kelly is one of the best professors to take at UTSA. He's super funny and although every in-class meeting requires a quiz to be taken, he makes your time there worthwhile. I took him in hybrid class so basically you do a bunch of reading and watch his podcasts when you do not meet in class. Only two tests. Definitely recommend.

Dr. Kelly is a GREAT professor! I took his hybrid course. We only meet on tuesday's and have a quiz and then watch a podcast on thursday. His quizzes are basically from the podcast along with the reading he assigns. Books are fairly cheap and you WILL need them to pass. WOULD take again and I highly recommend him.

Dr. Kelly is one of the best professors that I've ever had! He is so knowledgeable and his lectures are AMAZING. I arranged my entire schedule for this semester around Dr. Kelly's class. If you do the reading and take good notes, you'll pass with no problems. Extra credit opportunity was amazing, too!

Dr. Kelly offer extra credit. His lectures are worth attending and the quizzes are mostly from his lectures, podcasts and reading (it's not that bad). Review previous quizzes for midterms. I highly suggest attending SI sessions and communicating with Dr. Kelly. He is a very cool professor. Take this class!

Dr. Kelly is one of the most essential professors to take as a history major at UTSA. He is truly passionate about the history department and very knowledgable about outside opportunities such as internships and potential jobs. His classes are very easy as long as you follow his podcast and take notes. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Prof Kelly is very involved and active with his students. His lectures are very interactive with the class and he is funny. There is weekly quizzes and only two exams for this course. He is an outstanding prof overall. There is a lot of reading and studying required. He will call you out for phone use and especially cheating.

TAKE THIS CLASS! Ive never been a fan of any history class but this is my favorite class. Its an easy A as long as you take notes.

LOOOOVE his class! I have him for Texas History, and we have to watch podcasts as the lecture, due to covid. He explains everything very well and in depth, but they can be lengthy. One test, and the final. Quizzes every Tuesday, also gives extra credit. Amazing professor.

He makes his lectures very easy to understand and provide everything you need to know for quizzes and exams. Taking notes is key.... He also gives out a review for every exam. It's a very straightforward class, and as long as you keep up with lectures, you will do great!!!!!

His lectures are great and extremely easy to pay attention to since he keeps them interesting. The study guides were emailed to us and were very helpful. He will work with you to get you the grade you want. The extra credit opportunities offered are actually interesting and fun to do. I would highly recommend this professor.

Dr. Kelly was an amazing professor. He shows that he cares and clearly wants his students to succeed in this course. Dr. Kelly is very accessible and provides extra credit. Quizzes were reasonably easy if you listened to his lectures. If you're taking a history course, I highly recommend Dr.Kelly!

I think I only did around 30 minutes of work for this class a week. I never opened one of his lectures, I just did the review he posted and was fine. There is a quiz every week, but he skipped 2-3 of them. There are 3 tests over the span of the course, and all of them are super easy. You try even a little bit and you'll be fine.

You would pass this class easily if you take notes because all his tests and quizzes are unique.

Lectures are long and only two long evaluations. You have to watch and listen to understand what is going on. The only thing I disliked is that he wanted to write like him.

I really liked taking this professor, he was really funny and overall good at his job. Didnt want to overwhelm anyone with a workload so its a pretty routine course. Watch his lectures and make sure you're in a groupme if you have any questions. I actually learned a lot of cool things in the class. Id def take it again

Dr. Kelly is a genuinely amazing person and professor. I had him for Texas History, and he GENUINELY cares about what he teaches. Very polite and responsive in emails, and he even reached out to me at the end of the semester to tell me I did a good job. Would not be surprised to see him saving puppies from a burning building. Take notes and read.

Professor Kelly makes this class a breeze. Engaging lectures, helpful study guides, and easy exams. Take notes, use unstuck ai for prep, and you're golden. Definitely a professor worth taking for an effortless A.
