Tough class, but if you need to learn info, this is by far the best instructor possible, very organized, provides all information and then some. Very straight forward, clear, to the point, terrific, terrific, instructor.

Excellent, enthusiastic, warm, dedicated, caring teacher. This class has mountains of technical material, take good notes then mesh that info with concentrated study from the book. There are no trick test questions from other sources. An A is definitely possible with intense study. If you do your part, Dr. Leary will eagerly help you to succeed.

This class isn't even related to my major, but it's one of those gen. ed. req's. Dr. Leary turned this class from one that I dreaded into one that I loved. His labs are great!

Well he is a great teacher. I had him for one day to make up one of my classes, and he kept me writing notes but not boring ones, but ones that made me want to learn. It was great to see that he love to teach he related to everyone when he talked. It was great. Basically, he is the greatest teacher for this class. I recommend him.

If you have even the slightest interest in Biology, you will love his class. If you have no interest in biology, his enthusiasm will still wear off on you. He is not an easy professor but all you have to do is show up to class and you will know what you need to know. He is willing to answer any questions you have. I highly recommend him.

Awesome! Not much more can be said. You need to read and study your book and notes. But if you need help he is right there for you. he even allows you to go to the same class he teaches on the other days. There is no other professor like Dr. Leary. Recommend him to everyone.

This class takes a lot of studying. Be sure to read your text book and pay attention in class. Dr. Leary is great at explaining anything you need help with. It is a hard class, but he is a great teacher! I would definitely recommend him if you are planning on taking biology. (But his classes fill fast so you have to hurry to sign up!)

Excellent teacher. Biol is a difficult subject and it requires a lot of studying no matter whom you take but Prof Leary's teaching methods helps you grasp the topics. I very much enjoyed attending his lectures as he employs various different props and stories to help increase student understanding. He's the best at what he does. Highly recommended

Professor Leary is very helpful and really wants his students to succede however this is a very hard class and the tests are a challenge prepare to STUDY ALOT and prepare yourself for a challenge. A study partner that is highly successful in this class is recomended. I would take any of this professors courses he also teaches other bilogy courses

The subject takes a lot of studying for in general. The tests are mostly on his lecture info. He has great enthusiasm and makes it a joy to come to class.

The best you can get for Bio 189! He keeps it entertaining and will explain something as many times as you need it. Don't be shy! If you don't understand ask! Once you fall behind in Bio there's no coming back. Leary will do everything he can to help!

He was the best BIO teach I had. Most of the ones I had put me to sleep or I had an extremely hard time grasping concepts. He makes BIO interesting. I definately recommend him. Make sure you attend class because a lot of his material is on lecture.

His exam is straight forward, but you have to understand the material inside and out. A half the class dropped after the 2nd exam. You must keep up to survive!

Wonderful Teacher uses pictures he takes himself from all over the world. Makes everything interesting. You Have to Study!! Tests aren't easy. Read carefully and put in the time you will be fine.

One of the best, if not THE best teacher, I've ever had. Extremely clear, makes the class a blast to attend. While the class itself is a little challenging, I gave him a 5 on easiness because he could not have possibly made challenging concepts more clear or fun to learn about. This is a guy who has really found his calling.

He is a wonderful professor. I just love his class, but remember you must study in order to succeed. Go to class don't miss a single one or it will be harder for you to catch up. Dr. Leary keeps the class interesting, I enjoyed attending class. He's approachable will help you get on the right track. Exam questions are tricky, you have to really understand what is being asked. Bio 189 has too much information in it anyway. You have to read prior to the day's lecture. Overall, I would say he's fair

Extremely hard difficult exams please DO NOT be fooled by all the great reviews. I find it extremely weird that no one has given this a Real and truthful review. Needless to say he is very clear with his lectures but not very thorough at times. furthermore not all of the given information during lectures help with the exams. restless hours of study

Best teacher I've ever had. I had trouble with this course, but Dr. Leary was there to help no matter what. He has a passion for not only teaching, but for what he is teaching. Excellent teacher. I've been out of school for 15 years and didn't even take biology then and i'm on track to get a B in his class. The material is tough but hes willing to do everything short of taking the test for you to see that you get a good grade.

I took him for marine biology. He's an awesome teacher, and passionate about biology. Not really any homework besides studying. He has study guides for the tests, and it all goes really smoothly. He also offers extra credit papers. His classes are hard to get into because they fill up so fast, especially his BIOL 189 class, so be quick.

Material is hard but he is the most kind hearted professor I've ever had. He shows that he truly cares about his students and gets to know every one. He is always there to help. Tough exams and you must must MUST study. That's how all biology classes should be anyway. He's WONDERFUL! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!

I had Dr. Leary in 1990 for general Biology, I have since become an architect, but remember that he definately inspired me and others. Kudos.

Attendance was not mandatory, but it is recommended. This class was very boring, even though the professor tried to act enthusiastic. 4 exams. 2 extra credit papers. shark reef paper.

If you are lucky enough to get into his class, you will have a teacher who wants you to pass!! You MUST study!! You cannot slide by in this class. (I TRIED!!) Use the study guides, read as much of the chapter as you can, and keep up! Don't feel weird going to his office, he likes to get to know his students, it will benefit you too! GOOD LUCK!!!

You MUST use the textbook, read, & grasp the concepts. Professor Leary WILL do all he can to help you understand. He's kind & wonderful.

Dr. Leary is very nice and quite bright. This however, is a very difficult class, I studied 30 hours a week and received a B. Get study guide that goes with book and Chemistry for Bio students in bookstore, go to library, use U tube. Tests, quizzes and lab tests are hard. Get in a study group and read every chapter several times. Study & pass.

I just have to say the Dr Leary was the best teacer I have ever had. I took his class in 2004 and its 2012 and still have never forgot him. He used his own time to help students who needed help. I was clueless about Biology when I started but still ended with a B+. He is a wonderful teacher whom I will never forget.

Biology 189 is a weeder class, and it is one of the hardest classes available. Patrick Leary does his absolute best to make this class easier. If you need 189, then you need Patrick Leary.

This professor is amazing, very clear about what he wants. one thing I regret is at first I did not care for my test grades I would study 30-40 mins before class and earn C's on the exam after the third exam I started to study and got very high B's close to an A. my final grade was a B. if you study and do well on the exams, you will be fine!

Professor Leary is very fair. It's a tough class with a lot of information regardless of who you take it with. You have to STUDY. Most tests are multiple choice and he gives very good study guides for each. If you put the effort in, you won't fail. He gives you all the tools you need to pass. I wish he taught other bio classes!

Dr. Leary is an amazing man trully respected however not everyone learns from images. Some of us need actual computations. Not a hard class if you read all your chapters and understand the work. Mostly learned on my own and went to class to see what was being covered. If you are not ready to put in work I wouldn't recommend taking anyone's189class.

Not sure where most of bad reviews are coming from. Ppl seem to think u can come to class and look at the slides and get an A w/o reading the book or putting work into it whatsoever. This is college, get over it. Use the book, participate, and ask Qs when you dont understand. He gives timely feedback and is so encouraging. Would 100% take again.
