I took Dr. Lewis for Biological Anthropology. I would say this is probably this best Bio class I have taken and I would recommend him to anyone. I am honestly sad that the class is over.
Great prof. Very helpful and makes going to class fun. Lots cool pics!
Not only is Dr. Lewis is a wonderful professor, but he is a wonderful person in general. He has traveled around the world and learned many things. You can tell that he really cares about the things that matter in the world, and unlike most people, he makes decisions that reflect it. I would recommend taking him to anyone, no matter what class.
Is the best professor I have ever had. He makes it crystal clear what is going to be expected on the tests. I suggest taking him for any class that you can.
Take notes from his powerpoints. Study the notes and vocabulary from them for the tests. He explans everything on the power points in laymans terms and makes jokes during class to pass by the time.
Dr. Lewis is an interesting man. He has a lot stories about his travels which make the class interesting. It is a lot of memorizing which you can't get around and you have to go to lecture or you won't pass the tests. If it is easy for you to memorize things this class shouldn't be too difficult
Very little book use. Just have to go to class and take down the notes from the powerpoints. You dont really have to read the book because all the notes are given in class.
Great teacher! Gives lots of interesting info. about his studies around the world. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you have to go to get the notes. Tests are directly from notes given in class. Vocab. is a big deal. Would recommend him to anyone!!!!
He is an excellent professor, and very interesting. He likes to tell you stories about his travels sometimes. I recommend him to anyone. Just go to class and take notes, because the tests are based off of the notes. Also, there are lots of quizzes, but they are really short and easy if you read the notes some before class.
Dr. Lewis is amazing! I took him for Zoo and I am taking him for Bio now. All of his tests are strait for the notes he gives in class (so write EVERTHING down). Class is not mandatory, but he gives pop quizzes that you don't want to miss. I HIGHLY recomend him to anyone! It's strait up memorization. He also makes it interesting!
Dr.Lewis is the best bio prof! He gives quizzes everyday that are not hard. Attendance is mandatory or you will not pass. The NOTES ARE EXACTLY over the test, don't buy the bio book never used it! If you STUDY HIS NOTES EXACTLY you will do fine!
If you cannot memorize do not take him. If you can he's a geat professor with a ton of knowledge. I really enjoyed this class.
I don't know what everybody is talking about, this class is hard! If you're not a biology major this class will stress you out like no other. Tests are straight from the notes, but its hard to comprehend the content. Nice guy, though.
No book needed, attend class and study notes daily and you will do great. He is very intelligent and seemed easy going.
I honestly thought i was going to fail this class after the first 3 test... but the last 2 and final are EASY!!! i made a B... He is a GREAT teacher!! You do not need the book! but you must attend every class... and he does not miss a day!!
great guy! i took him for anatomy! and he will teach you everything you need to know for the test.. start stufying the first day you get notes from him. makes anatomy alot easier! he is not tricky with his tests!
I had Lewis last semester for Zoology and was impressed with how much I learned so I decided to take him again this semester fr Anatomy, a class that I don't even need (Psych major). He is by far, the best professor I have ever had. He's down to earth and wants you to learn. He's as clear as can be, but you must be willing to study! Lewis Rocks!
Very good teacher. Teaches off of powerpoints. Do not need the book..we never used it. Class is just memorization. Very nice teacher!
I really enjoyed this anatomy class, it is very interesting and he does not make it boring. I am not going to lie there is a lot of material that gets covered, so go to class bc he doesnt post PP. Very understanding and down to earth.I highly recommend him! You make the effort so will he.
I have to say this is a GREAT teacher, this man right here is one of the best teachers, its an easy class because he highlights what is going to on the test in his powerpoints. You should go to class because he gives quizzes and plus you don't need the book you just have to be there for the notes. All you have to do is study and you will be fine!
Professor Lewis Is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't explain how cool he's claas was took him fall semester 08 you have to go to class kuz all he's note are off powerpoint DO NOT BUY THE BOOK you will not need it..... easy class jus put in some effort and you'll do very well
really down-to-earth teacher! tests are straight from his power points. lots of vocabulary and you must memorize them to do good on tests. I would totally recommend him
Dr. Lewis is a great teacher. If you take notes everyday of class and study them every night you will make a good grade. No book is needed besides the final. Lots of pop quizes that are easy if you study your notes the night before. Tests are mult. choice and matching. If you study hard and make flashcards you will come out with a solid grade.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! I loved his class! His tests are staight from his notes he even highlights the certain points, he is very laid back and gives you a review for his final!! I RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE! Do NOT buy your book you do not need it.
I didn't enjoy the class much. I felt that he had too many topics and information for one test! I also feel that he required too much from non biology majors!! The class isn't difficult, it's just very uninteresting...
All you have to do is go to class, write down all the notes from powerpoints, then memorize them for the test because the questions are exactly whats on the notes. He doesnt put the powerpoints on blackboard so that means you pretty much have to go to class. Also he says at the beginning that he wont curve but i shouldve made a 77 and got a B
Serious prof with a funny side, so it makes for an interesting class. Great teacher, but too many notes so there is a lot to remember for the test. For the final (which is cumulative) I had 162 pages of notes to study. But overall I would recommend him!
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! Tests are straight from the notes, and don't buy the $100+ book - you won't open it- and I'm a biology major. Very interesting professor, extremely knowledgeable, and if I could, I would take many many more classes from him
Dr. Lewis is AMAZING!!! He really knows what he is talking about and has helped me so much. I work for him in his paleontology lab as an undergraduate student, and I really respect him and his work. He is extremely helpful and if you pay attention in his class you will be fine. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TEACHER!
The entire class is based off of the powerpoint slides that he uses in class. The red highlighted words and definitions are the only things on the tests, which are very detailed, and sometimes tricky. Super boring for the first month or so, until you get out of microorganisms. No quizzes or daily assignments at all. Flashcards recommended for tests
HE IS EXCELLENT! One of the nicest and most genuine people i have ever known... being funny doesn't hurt either :)he is by far one of my favorite professors of all time.
I wish he taught every class!
Professor Lewis was a Great instructor. Very knowledgable, approachable and very clear on expectations. I was in a required intro biology which I know was a pain to teach. He was professional and personable. I'll take any other Bio/Zoo/Bot class that I may need from him.
Dr. Lewis is awesome! This class is definitely challenging because there is so much information you have to know for the tests, but he makes it interesting and knows what he's talking about! He's extremely intelligent and awesome and helping you understand the information. He's very nice if you respect him. He's VERY STRICT about cell phones.
He is by far the best professor I've had. Strict on cell phones and talking. Don't need the book. His tests are straight forward and over his power points. I should have gotten an A, but slacked and got a B. There's no reason you shouldn't get an A unless you don't try. I definitely would recommend him and hope to take him again. He's very fair too.
The exams are simple if you study properly. You don't need the book, but it helps if you have it for reference and a better understanding of the topic. The lectures are rather boring. It usually feels as if I'm in that class for ages. If I had 90 minutes to live, I would spend it there because it feels like an eternity.
AMAZING PROF! Very knowledgeable and easy to understand. A lot of information but attend class and study his powerpoint word for word and you will make an A. So interesting, class may be drawn out, but I learned a lot. His stories were very interesting.
Dr. Lewis is seriously an amazing teacher. He hates cell phones though and will fail you if he sees it. He has tons of amazing stories and videos that he shows you and really cares about his students. His slides aren't posted online so you should attend class and you really need to study your notes in advanced. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Lewis!!
zoology is a tough subject and has alot of information but dr. lewis does a great job at explaining it.. you don't need the book at all.. the class is time consuming but if you study you will pass! everything on his lectures are on the test! TAKE HIM :)
I took Lewis for Zoology. Great professor, really teaches some interesting stuff. Course requires alot of dedication outside of class. I recommend reviewing your notes after each class to keep the info fresh since his test come exactly from your notes. Lots of writing, but test are straightforward. He is kind of strict, but cares a lot. Take him!
Great professor. Requires a lot of studying. The subject is hard by itself, he makes it a lot easier to understand. Very helpful and comitted to his work.
I'm sorry but I really don't know why everyone is calling this class easy. I've struggled a lot with this class and I pay attention in class and study outside of class. I've never had trouble with a class this much before, especially one somewhat related to my major (agriculture). And his short answer midterm killed me the most.
Dr. Lewis is a great professor. His midterm was pretty hard, but I barely studied and still got a pretty okay grade. He also provided a lot of extra credit for the midterm grades because so many people did so poorly. Although the subject matter is difficult, he is probably one of the easier professors who teaches this class.
I didn't realize that Dr. Lewis' class was going to be writing enhanced. He assigned 5, very long and somewhat difficult to comprehend, articles that we had to read and summarize. The midterm & final were short answers, but his grading format was ridiculous. They can't be too long or too short and you have to hit the nail on the head. 4 MC quizzes
The midterm & final were open response, he looks for blunt answers, no extra info. I made very high grades by just writing the answer down. Lots of extra credit. He assigns 4 readings and asks to write reviews about them, they are turned in through blackboard, so they are due at midnight, he gives 2+ weeks to do it. 4 EASY MC quizzes. Take him!
This class was so interesting! Dr. Lewis used videos, personal experiences, and other methods to keep the class engaged. He was VERY straight-forward on quizzes and reviews for the midterm and final exam, which were short answer. If he can see you understand the concept, you at least get some credit. 5 article summaries. I highly recommend him.
Hard class, but he was my favorite professor on the semester. If you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere. He is always willing to help and answer questions, and participation goes a long way with this guy. Just don't use your phone during class. He may be a nice guy, but once he sees a phone, it's like a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde sort've thing.
Im taking this class right now and its horrible. Its not that the material is hard, is that his question are difficult to understand and weren't worded right. I'm so confused. Lots of writting.
Ok so he speaks way over your head in this class. He is an amazing teacher. You will feel like you are drowning especially when you fail the midterm but everyone fails the midterm. he will give you a slide that tells you everything to study for the midterm if you write out a response and study that you will do great! Ask for help he will help you
This guy is pretty hard. I can't stress enough that you need to study for his mid term or you will fail. His tests are all essay questions. I loved his lectures. Almost made me switch to biology major
You Do need the book to study and do the classwork. First day you will feel like dropping but DO NOT! just put some effort in and you will learn alot and do good. Come to class prepared or he gets pissed. Cell phone& cheating will get you expelled
Dr. Lewis is very passionate about evolution, he almost takes it personally. If you are energetic and willing to expand your consciousness, take his class and work hard. You will be very proud of yourself in the end.
If you take this class, you are FOR SURE going to need your textbook. In order to do well in this class, you have to study a lot, especially for the midterm and the final since that counts for majority of your final grade. Dr. Lewis is a great professor and I would highly recommend him.
Awesome professor! One of his pet-peeves is when students do not show up to class, so just show up to class! His test are not the easiest but if you study you should have no problem. He really cares about your learning and will take time to explain things to you.
Dr. Lewis contradicts himself a lot when lecturing and is not very clear about things. His midterm and final are long essay questions and ridiculously difficult, like he doesn't expect hardly anyone to pass.
Dr. Lewis is an amazing teacher! He makes the lectures interesting as well. He gives quizzes every couple of weeks, and you have to do article reviews as well. Easy grade. The midterm and final are in essay form, and are a bit challenging. Overall, I do recommend him.
Dr. Lewis is a great professor. I took him for general zoology and I had a high A for the class. You have to pay attention and go to all the lectures, somedays have easy participation points. Yes the tests are essay and only have two, midterm and final, but he tells you what you need to study in lect. No cell phones helped stay focused in class.
He is one of the worst teachers i have ever had. I keep reading that he gives lectures in the older comments. Let me correct that for you he does not anymore. He will only answer your book questions and once in awhile give you a few bits of info that may or may not be on a test. He has two written tests, your midterm and your final. Not worth it.
I did better in lab than in lecture, which is rare. Lewis gives 6 multi-choice quizzes & 2 free response tests (midterm & final). He gives 8 article reviews as online homework. Read the text BEFORE class. THERE WILL BE A CLASS DISCUSSION. He doesn't take attendance, but gives in-class assignments to spite those who don't show up or leave post-quiz.
The class is not really tough it's just that he contradicts his self a lot. You ask him a question and sorts of answer around it. His TA grades harder then him. Attendance is not mandatory but will give long speeches that will make you feel bad for not coming, when he actually states that it's not mandatory. Only take him if he's the last resort!!!
Dr. Lewis has high expectations of his students. He knows his subject area and communicates it well. His lectures are polished and informative. If you listen, you will learn a lot. He is tough but fair. Most importantly, if you take the time to get to know him, he will go out of his way to help you.
Now, read this because Dr. Lewis completely updated his curriculum. As of Fall 2016, Dr. Lewis now has four exams (the last one being his final exam). Each exam is cumulative, meaning there will be less new information with each test. This class is difficult and I don't recommend it. The exams are hard, lots of dedication, and the book is needed.
He's a very cool teacher that curves test so that the highest score is 100 (so if 92, then the test is curved by 8). I don't recall homework. I do recall taking a lot of notes. ATTEND HIS CLASSES but you don't have to; he doesn't care. It's just that the tests are based on lectures. There are some assignments he does just because, but it's eh.
I recommend his class. To pass it you need to show up to his lectures, you need to read the book, and do the easy points. There was four homework assignments total and accumulative they are worth 16% overall. You don't have to take notes he puts all of his powerpoints online you might want to right down the highlighted stuff though.. its important.
He's only 'aught
Great professor, he engages with students and basically tells students how to do well through out the course and is very passionate about the material.
He is a great professor. He does take his time explaining things if you don't understand them. He only has 4 tests and they are all accumulative. Back then his tests were free response, but for this semester he began doing his tests multiple choice, matching, and true and false. You must read the textbook in order to pass the exams. No extra credit
He was an ok professor. To pass his class you just need to be good at memorizing a lot of info. He has 4 test that are made up of 100 questions, multiple choice and matching. No homework. You dont need to show up for class because he posts the slides on blackboard. As long as you take the time to study, you can easily make an A.
Dr. Lewis is the coolest person I've ever met. He cares so much about if he's students pass or not and he's super hilarious. He doesn't take attendance and post his power points blackboard, so you don't have to show up technically, but he tells you exactly what he's going to ask on the test in class. YOU HAVE TO STUDY!!! There's only 4 exams.
I won't lie if you love biology and you have a good memory you will do fine. However for this class you need lots of free time to study and read over the power points Dr. Lewis post. Also it is not mandatory to come to class but if you don't read the power points and get the notes your only hurting yourself. Study groups and SI sessions are very!
you don't really have to show up to class, it is very important to take a lot of time studying for this class because tests are lengthy and contain a lot of material. this class is only memorization. Dr lewis may seem boring at times but he is good at explaining things and lets you know almost exactly what will be on the tests which are cumulative.
Dr. Lewis is an amazing professor. I took him for an advanced biology course. He gives you tons of chances to get a good grade in the class, the only real challenging parts were the exams. And even then, those weren't hard if you are adequately prepared. There was a lot of material to cover, but he made it interesting and accessible.
This was an online Honors Seminar (Journeys). Took it over the summer. All we did was watch TED talks and write a journal on what we watched. 20 journal entries, 4 videos to watch per entry. Tedious work but an Easy A if you follow the criteria/rubric. Highly recommend if you need an Honors Seminar and its available.
He is an awesome professor. I took him for Zoology notes are so organized test is hard have to study Everything is in his lecture notes Got put in online because of quarantine and everything was perfectly organized Awesome lectures always learned something cool
I had Dr. Lewis for zoology and he's one of my favorite professors I've ever taken. He's very no-nonsense, and you get the grade you earn.
I took this professor for an Honors seminar. The class wasnt bad at all but his attitude seemed as if he didnt really want to be there. I was so pumped for the course but was kind of bummed when I listened to his first lecture. It was still a good course. Nothing personal against him. Hes just super monotoned.
Dr. Lewis is an excellent professor BUT if you like to have free time, work or do anything else where you feel like you won't be able to give 100% of your time to this class then DO. NOT. TAKE. I thought it being a fully online lecture would be easy for work, I was wrong. This class was pre recorded lectures followed by a test, repeat until the end
Dr.Lewis is a great professor. Took him for a biology seminar, and found him to be monotoned, but still very interesting. Cared about students' success, even would help connect students with potential professors to start research. Had a weekly journal and quiz, and a FINAL CAREER paper, make sure you start early! No exams at all.
Counts off on exams due to all spelling. The lectures contain so much information you will zone out. Tests are based on lectures, PowerPoints and chapter readings. You will read anywhere from 7-11 chapters before you take an exam. Unless you have a great memory do not take this class. He does not offer extra credit. Do not take this class!
Dr. Lewis is great. My only complaint is that with the particular course I took with him, he was hardly in class (this is because the course consisted of guest lecturers most weeks). While I understand why he chose not to attend most days, it would've been nice if he could've checked in periodically with us.
Paced very well despite sheer volume of content to go through. Service veteran himself and understands other veterans' issues from attending college for the first time. Very accessible and passionate for his work, almost convincing me to switch majors just to have more of his classes. Plus he keeps student costs in mind.
Strongly recommend the Journeys seminar. Best college class I've ever taken.
BIOL 3410 Human Biology (Online) a human gross anatomy class that is a lot of memorization obvi, copy & pastes the class each semester, not that difficult, TA grades everything but exams (which basically grade themselves). Doesn't seem highly knowledgeable on human anatomy & clinical relevance but it's a teach yourself class so no problem or issue
While this is an online asynchronous course, Dr. Lewis supports his students by being accessible and structuring his grading scale so people can make A's and B's in the class. While he is a bit of a picky grader and stickler for the syllabus, he provides walkthroughs on how to do assignments and lectures on material so students do not feel lost.
