Not very helpful and doesn't seem to have any concern for students.
He'd get stuck at the board and couldn't do the problems. Then he'd tell us to go home and "fiddle around with it". Then he'd put the problems that he couldn't work out on the test. He doesn't know what he's doing. Avoid him like the plague!!!
I pretty much had to teach myself (and my fellow classmates) in this class. Mr. Malone is a very personable and very nice guy, but he is much too confusing. Not a good teacher for trigonometry (which I don't think he teaches anymore).
Not organized at all. Like Redona, if you already know it well, then take him if it fits your schedule, but don't expect to learn anything from him.
Instead of simplifying an explanation he complicates it and uses a lot of jargon. Class was a waste of time, had to ditch to spend time with a tutor. Poor teaching style. Simply stated: Avoid at all costs!
I'm even taking another one of his classes cuz he does a good job!!
I took professor Malone for college algebra. This class was difficult, but I think having him as the professor helped me pass. You just have to make sure that you come to class for lectures (here he will answer any questions), and keep up with homework assignments (practicing problems is the only way to be prepared for tests).

I had to retake this class at the last minute and this professor was kind enough to let me in despite a full class. He was very willing to help and offered extra credit, which most professors don't do. I appreciated this class a lot.
Tells stories.
Same thing...over and over again. But I fear change.

I dont know why there is so many bad comments. He is so straightforward. Youll know exactly whats going to be on the test and the problems are the same as the homework just with different numbers and such. His class was very easy.
He was the best teacher ive ever had in my life...i loved him, such a hippie!
Very Rude! Don't ask for help he won't give you help. Not a good teacher.
I like him he is pretty clear and to the point. But I dont like how he is hard to talk to if you need help
I don't understand any of these harsh comments! I freakin' loved this guy!! I used to be so bad at math untill I took his class! He makes math interesting and tells a bunch of corny jokes and funny stories in between. He's a total hippie :) As with any class, do the work, ask questions, and he will help. TAKE HIS CLASS!!

I really dont like him.... He seems to be unfair on my tests :( and he is impossible to ask if you need help on something. He is Arrogant too, and if you are having bad problems he wont help you and if you mention avoiding retaking the class next semester cause you are doing poorly he just says "Its my job security"
This guy is lame- definitely a joke! Doesn't care about the students or how they are doing, is definitely not ever going to do anything outside of a junior college. What is the logic behind putting notes on 3x5 notecards???
Awful! Just the worst! He mumbles and you can't understand what he's saying. Sometimes he can't do the problems and he'll tell you to do it for homework. When he tells you to do it for homework, its because he doesn't know how to do it himself.
Eh...he's ok. It's probably better to take his online class.
He's really hard but he's an awesome teacher. If you don't need to know much about math for your major don't take him, take someone easier like Mauch...
Massive Massive Jerk. Good luck getting a hold of him---doesn't return phone calls or emails. He didn't set up his Online Class correctly (even VVC admits this), but he blamed and punished the students for this. He is rude, and refuses to accept any blame for his mistakes. Aviod this man like the Plague!!!!!!!!!!!
Malone assigns massive amounts of homework which unless you have no life, it's impossible to finish. This class just frustrated the hell out of me
He can not finish a sentence. Very hard to follow. If you want to learn the math, better get a tutor. He is a better teacher 1 on 1.
The worst instructor I have had. Is more concerned with his "job security" than in getting his students to learn, and has no problems telling you that flat out. Should concider an early retirement.
Perhaps should not be allowed to teach online classes. Slow at replying...if ever. Disorganized. Avoid this one. I decided to drop the class and get a fresh start.
Horrible teacher... Avoid at all costs!
College algebra is not easy you need to work at it. He will help you out just ask him. Lots of information to learn with not a lot of time he needs to go fast.
OH LORD!
Prof. Malone was boreing, and I had a hard time focusing on the Math he was teaching, because of his attire. He was BOREING!
Not sure why Malone gets such a bad wrap. Keeps class interesting with music inuendos and a little history on what he is teaching. Goes over questions from the prior nights homework in every class. Likes students that pay attention and are involved. Doesn't like people chatting and disrupting class. Show up, do your work, be involved, you'l do well
Funny guy. Gives good explanations of processes. Seems to really love math and is helpful when asked. Tries to make sure the class is following along.
He gives SO much homework. You have to kind of teacher yourself the material cuz he doesnt explain it fully. The class is soo boring makes you wanna fall asleep.
I have had Malone since math 10 and I think he is a good teacher. Yes sometimes he can be a little confusing, but if you pay attention you are sure to do well:)
I'm a C student just do the work and get a decent grade on the test show up to class you'll learn alot more then reading the textbook trust me dont be lazy pretty easy class
he is sooooooo hard. don't take his class.
I have A's in all of my classes, but his. I have a C and I might not make it. I ask questions and he does not help. He is hard to understand becuase he tells stories while he is doing a problem. Don't take his class.
Long Lectures. Gets pissed if ur late or need to leave early. So much HW ur left confused b/k ur just trying to finish. Pop quizzes! On the quizzes only 2 questions (either u know it or u don't) he does give a little credit for trying. Turn all the HW in before tests, so it counts but isn't due everyday. I had to drop. I was so lost!!!
For one, this class is very hard to pass if he specifically is teaching it. He gives loads of homework and never acknowledges questions that are asked during class. He relies way too much on his power point and can't teach without it. His jokes are terrible and get old very fast. Anyone heard "Nice threads" lately? Don't take him - waste of time
Wow....I guess he tries, but is not very good. He will do a problem(when he can) with lighting fast speed and really doesn't explain what he is doing. Very unorganized and didn't start lecturing until the third week and rushes through each power point stating we can learn that stuff later(which we didn't) Dont take if you want to learn!!!
this teacher is very hard!!! TONS of homework. doesn't explain anything clearly. i love math. Math has always been a super easy class for me, and this teacher confused me so much!! this class seems impossible to pass. if you take it, good luck!
Mountains of homework. He bases his teaching on the powerpoint presentations that come with his book. It might just be my weakness against math, but I had a very hard time grasping what he was saying. He's kind of funny, and will help you out if you ask nicely, but I'd reccomend to steer away from this class, if possible.
THE GOOD- kind of interesting math stories, and hands out practice final. THE BAD- power points were hard to follow, a lot of home work, the quizzes are do or die, and taking his class will not prepare you for MATH 105
DON'T TAKE HIM!!! He is all about the power points that come with your book(might as well stay home) but he has quizzes that are worth major part of the grade. WAY TOO MUCH HOMEWORK!!!If you have questions he won't answer them had my hand raised for 10 minutes and finally called on me and said "Fine ask you question quickly" DO NOT TAKE!!STAY AWAY!
Mr. Malone was not very helpful. He assigned too much homework. He gave pop quizzes every week. He didn't teach much but gave power points instead. He did give very helpful study guides for his tests. Homework will help/hurt your grade so it's a must. He doesn't prepare you for the next math. You might as well just read the book yourself.
Instructor is NOT suited for online teaching. Serious students worked hard for everything, while slackers manipulated him into unlocking everything for them, after which the teacher gave up on all. The "final" was not addressed on the discussion board or on the calendar and can cost you 15 pts if you don't read all of the syllabus fine print.
Loses your HW. Goes way to fast when teaching. Never completed all the quizes we needed so we could pass his class. Wasted my time taking him. Now I have to do it all over again. Don't take him. Should not be teaching!
Extremely hard, talks way too fast, does not give enough samples or go over questions from the students with enough time to finish. Only take him if you are already great at math. He is not for the average math hating student.
Probably one of the worst teachers I have had here at VVC. He doesnt take the time to clarify what the hell hes talking about and then gets mad when you ask him to repeat himself. I really wouldnt reccommend taking this guy for any math class.
The only things this guy has going for him are his willingness to try and help, and his sense of humor. Other than that, he's not a very good teacher.
So He really sucks at teaching.. but he's really funny and nice. So if you wanna work your butt off for some comedy, then he's your guy. But if you're not naturally good at math or teaching yourself, then do not take him. It was by the grace of God that I passed.
Nice professor, pretty helpful. He added me even though he already had a full class. Very humorous, which makes the class less stressful. I took his college algebra course in my junior year of high school and got an A, so I would say it wasn't too hard. He has a lot of HW, but it helps your grade tremendously. During office hrs he is also helpful.
I am a 4.0 student...I mean WAS a 4.0 student til I took this online class. I think he is funny but if I wanted a comedy class, I would have signed up for that. The loads of homework were over the top and the in class final kicked my butt! Hint-when taking the final, do the written problems first then do the multiple choice so you have enough tim
One of the worst instructors I have ever experienced at any college. Tons of hw. Has a tough time speaking in complete sentences and is hard to understand. Gets angry when asked to repeat himself
i had him for math 105 and he gives way too much hw and goes over the stuff too fast doesnt really explain
Mr Malone is a nice, funny guy. He gives out as much HW as other classes, but he uses mymathlab(which I dislike). Also he teaches his class using powerpoint slides instead of using the board. His tests are hard, the last 5 questions of them are the hardest & are worth 60% of the test! I worked harder for his class than any other, & I still failed.
He is a great teacher! I would tell everyone to take him!
Great teacher...who are you kidding? Loads of HW and lots of humor if that's why you take college classes. Very disappointing for me. Steer clear of this one.
His class is not easy. You must study what he lectures during class. Basically you need to do the homework before class has begun. Ask him questions during class about the homewok. Also practice what he taught after class. He is also ALWAYS in his office, willing to basically help you out. Good teacher, but lazy people will not like him as much.
I got a C, because I failed 2 tests. Then I decided to go to tutoring and get homework caught up. My tests scores went into the 85-95% range after! You really need to do homework for a few hours a week, and go to tutoring if you need to, visit his office hours. I believe I could have got an A if I didn't slack in beginning.
I thought I've had horrible teachers before. Malone really takes the cake. I'm taking his class online right now. He gives you 2 tries for every test online except the final, but the system we use is full of bugs and glitches you may waste one of your tries on a system problem. Ive emailed him over a week ago and still no answer. Don't take.
Do yourself a favor and don't register for this so-called professor for any class. Took his online class and was thoroughly disappointed with all of it. Does not respond, or should I say, takes forever to respond. Course is riddled with technical problems...frustration abounds. Nix on this one!
This teacher uses only power point during lectures, which may work for others, but not me. He never uses the text book in class. He moves through sections too quickly while often getting off topic. He uses the MyMathLab which doesn't always correspond with lectures. If you miss class you will get off track. I would not recommend this teacher!!
awesome teacher! lots of homework but have good dead lines, gives easy quizes and pre-tests are exactly like his exams. do your homework, show up to class and you will pass! helpful teacher
Only had this guy as a sub, but dear God was he horrible. My class isn't very talky, and this guy hated it and started making passive-aggressive threats at us! "if you were my class Id hold you all even after class ended" and, under his breath, "gimme the answer guys! (not that youd get it right)". Not everyone is that excited about math, malone.
Mr. Malone just does not like too much funny business. He likes to kid around but does still want to be taken seriously. Which is understandable for a calculus class. Show up, ask questions, and do the homework and you will get an A.
Take with another instructor is all I will say.
Professor Malone has an awesome (A+) personality and wants his students to learn. He is helpful and will take time to ensure students are grasping the lessons. I highly recommend this professor!
Very nice professor! Wants students to learn and is willing to help.. Homeowrk is a lot but helps prepare for the tests.. NOt an easy A, but is a real college class. If youre looking to transfer get used to teachers like Malone!
Mr. Malone is an awesome teacher, especially for those students that learn better without the textbook everyday. He will do what is necessary and beyond to help a student understand the material. This class is quite easy to pass as long as you pay attention, ask questions, show up, and do the work (which isn't much).
Malone is a great teacher. Those of you saying he is hard.. he is preparing you for university teachers!!!! He knows is stuff and wants you to do the work. Show up to class, do the test and quizzes, do homework and you should atleast get a B. He is funny and enjoys his job. Not the easiest class, but very helpful and offers free help.
He grades on a point system which I preferred. Do your HW it is easy points. He gives out these practice tests that are very easy but when it comes to day of the exam, he had things that were never covered, so be prepared. If you plan on taking Math 226 do not take much else I took PHYS 201 at the same time and it was tough, wow! Philippians 4:13
Didn't appreciate his approach to teaching.
A lot of people are saying he was rude or whatever, hes just a hippie type. hes actually a lot of fun. i enjoyed his class- he made us laugh a lot. i took this course in high school (the equivalent of it), but decided to retake it as a refresher, and i was so overwhelmed at the amount of homework. but thats my ONLY complaint.
Honestly,I think Mr. Malone is great professor. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Always offers free help. Yes, it is kind of heavy on the homework, but honestly,he just wants to hammer the material in your head. Gives out practice tests that help out a lot come test day. Does throw some tough problems sometimes, but just keep up with your hw.
Despite what people may say, I believe that Malone is a really good instructor. He explains everything very well. If you do your homework, and study a little bit, the class is a breeze. He got upset when people were talking or slightly rude in class, but that is understandable. Other than that, he was his awkwardly funny, math loving, self.
I don't understand why students don't like him. Yes, he is strict with the phone rules and demands respect but he's a professor he shouldn't be demanding that from college students. He was very helpful and understanding if you ask for help. Overall a great professor.
Just do the homework, and review the practice tests he gives out and you'll be fine. When you take the tests, make sure you show SOME work to get partial credit. I just wrote stuff down on a question and ended up losing 2 points out of 5, so he's pretty nice when it comes to grading. I Just don't like the fact that he uses power point to teach.
Professor wasn't much help could of just never showed up to class and could of received a better grade. The only bad thing is that he wants you to show up even though everything is online. Some days he will be in a bad mood and will flip out on a student for just leaving early. All in all not recommended.
I would not take him again. He only made the subject 10x more confusing than necessary. Everything is online yet you were supposed to go to class and waste four hours a week. Ton of homework. On tests, just show work for the five short answer Q's and you'll get some credit. If you can, avoid this class. But if he's the last one, you'll survive.
At the beginning of the school yr he seems like an easy teacher. Its a lie. He goes from A to Z and expects you to know it off the bat. He dosent let student use anything during tests which is understandable, but the tests are hard and he berates the students when they do badly. He also says we dont need the textbook then he says use the textbook.
His grading system will make you feel like all your work throughout the semester is pointless. His final will either make or break your grade depending on how good you are at test taking. Impossible to pass with an A.
I am horrible at Math. He did all he could to help me.
