aggh this professor was horrible.... We spent like three weeks on paper ribbons, but had like two days to do a final in a media he never introduced before.... Overalll I would recommend to get a teacher that teaches drawing, especially if you need the instruction.
This man is crazy, not in a good way. He freaked me out most of the time. I had a hard time understanding what he was talking about. Although he would try to help you when he came around. Overall he was very stressful. I would avoid taking his class.
He talks a lot but he talks with passion. He helps when you need it and he understands if you don't. He doesn't give you the answer but wants you to figure it out on your own. He basically doesn't hold your hand but still help point the way. Projects are unique but still interesting. Overall he is tough but he WILL HELP YOU. Don't be afraid to ask
This guy doesn't belong at SCAD. It just doesn't seem like he's smart enough to be teaching anything (no wonder why they gave him 2D). He's gone to Atlanta this quarter (spring 07) but if he comes back to Savannah, it's a VERY easy A but you'll be so annoyed with him you'll wonder if it's worth it.
this class is really easy as long as you just follow the guidelines. he doesnt teach you anything and we always discussed the assignment but by the time critiques came around he would forget half the things the class agreed on. its all bull.
..One of the worst professors I've ever had the misfortune to encounter. I would rather cut my ears off with an exacto than listen to his voice for 5 minutes.
I will agree with the person below and say that he really did mean well. His explanations and analogies were among the strangest I've heard, but if you can stand to listen to him talk, then the class is an easy A. I learned a little bit, but it was mostly teaching myself.
Good teacher,I Recommend. Projects were educational and students were allowed to fix their projects for higher grades. Grades a little roughly for an intro class. Looks over your work at the end of the year to give you more points. Only problem was after looking at mine he said 'you worked really hard, and you improved a lot' and still gave me a C!
This class was easy for me. Easy A or B if you put some effort in. He does choose favorites, however, and I know many of my classmates didn't like him. However, I didn't mind him. My only complaint is that was only used pencil the whole time. We never touched charcoal, which made Drawing II a bit more difficult to begin with.
Each project was a variation of a 6"x6" cube. I don't feel I learned much about what makes a good 3-d design, rather I learned how to build cubes. He's condescending, inflexible, and stubborn. Critiques never really mentioned problems with our projects. He does offer a lot of extra help though. Has a very academic pov rather than practical.
If you want to learn something about 3D design, find a different teacher. If you want to learn how to make a cardboard box the wrong way, then Mohr is your man! Class isn't especially boring... but you just don't learn anything from it, and the assignments are uninspiring and inane.
Don't waste your time and money on this one.
Mohr is one of my favorite professors. I couldn't draw to save my life, and he kept me enthusiastic during the whole quarter. He is so helpful, and understands if you're a photography or performing arts major. The projects were fairly easy and he didn't make you draw 48975298 sketches every weekend. I never had to go in for extra help.

Took fr 3d. Good guy, work is incredibly easy. He will talk you to death though. Work can get boring in his class. He will help you with anything you ask him though. Very knowledgeable guy, almost annoyingly smart. Take him if you want to work and not slack off.
Prof. Mohr is a really great, helpful, insightful teacher. I have really enjoyed his class. His assignments are worthwhile, but can be tedious. He likes his students and wants them to do well.
He is a complete waste of time and money. He choses favorites and every week picks a different student to tear apart their work, sometimes to the point of making them cry... His assignments are boring and much harder than any other drawing class from what I've seen. He expects everyone to be able to draw perfectly, even though it's only drawing 1
Proff. Mohr seems to believe that he knows everything there is to know. While he says that he encourages us to challenge him and stand up for our work, I find that he mostly just wants to start an argument. He ignored me in my class and only gave critique for a elite few students. I didn't learn enough for the price I'm paying to take the class.
If you are stuck in this class I hope you have some amusing friends. As said, Patrick Mohr thinks he knows everything. For example, he told me that women had no spatial awareness. However, he genuinely cares for his students and is an extremely easy grader. He always allows you to improve your work and often forgets what you've already done.
If you get stuck with Mohr for drawing youre in for a ride.If you are a whiner at all you will hate his class. He makes you work hard and grades fairly harshly, contrary to other reviews.Youll learn alot but he has a tendency to get in student's faces and really rides some students. Most people in your class will hate him because they dont like work.
I didn't find this professor any worse than any other drawing teacher I've had. Didn't notice the harsh criticism or teacher's pet stuff in class that other reviewers did, but engaging the prof. in conversation is awkward. Not a recommended professor, but wouldn't be the end of the world if you got him.
I wouldn't take Mohr's class again if you paid me. Had him for Drawing I and I learned nothing. If you can't already draw, don't bother trying. Grades unfairly and doesn't care about how much effort you put into your piece, he'll only care if it's good. Let's just say I would have really liked to have less of Mohr.
Extremely hard projects- However, very nice guy to work with, he helps a lot, and is good to come to with problems. His projects require extreme accuracy if you don't do it right the 1st time, beware!! grades really HARD!!!
A great professor. Fair grader and very well qualified. He knows his stuff. One of my best professors ever. I recommend him highly. He is also known as the "Cubist." He will also work with you when you are having difficulties.
He's just an old man. He can be annoying if you are not good at drawing. But he seems to make all students pass his classes. Not great, not bad.
Unless you are a masochist, I would advise against any courses with this professor. He has a fluctuating standard for your work, and seems almost ignorant to the fact that you may have work in other courses. He often gives only a weekend to complete large, detailed assignments.
He often gives only a weekend to complete large, detailed assignments. He also doesnot seem to track ur progress, from my personal experience,he asked in surplus of 15 times what my major. He's loud n obnoxious. If u do not already grasp the concepts of drawing and display good to excellent skill level immediately, expect a B- or lower in his course
prof mohr chooses favorites. he grades very hard and talks way too much. i feel as if he tries to make you feel as though he knows everything. he is very knowledgeable and shoves it in your face. not enough time is spent on the projects but rather on a lot of thumbnails.
Prof. Mohr is a decent teacher. I took him for 3d design. He can be very frustrating as the all the projects you do are essentially just the same project with slight variations. The most frustrating part however is that he slows down your progress by making you cut, saw, and glue with his specific technique. Not hard, but not creative either.
Class with Mohr is a grueling task. He is constantly repeating himself and making the class listen to everything he says, asking us to take notes, only to contradict what he previously states. The projects are never clearly described and due dates/grades get changed/corrected at random (forward and back). Definitely has favorites.
He repeats himself over and over and contradicts himself quite a bit. It is very hard at first to find out what he wants but once you do find out, it's all smooth sailing from there. aside from those flaws he genuinely cares for his students and wants them to do good. Mohr is not for everyone, if you can deal with inconsistency I say take him.
One of the most helpful professors i've had at scad. This class was awesome especially for architecture students. It will prepare you really well to build the models in the architectural studios.
At first he seemed like he would be a good teacher, I could understand why we were doing each assignment and all that. But when he assigned the project he was very unclear on how to do it. Also when we would as there would be some random rant involved that has nothing to do with the course at all.
Worst teacher i've ever had! do not get him, you do color theory work, not 2-d design! hes mean and completely useless. Get out while you can!
Had a great time with professor Mohr. Came in not knowing alot and left know everything. If you dont get a good grade on a project he gives you another week to fix it and gives you a 1-2 letter grade bump.
I have to say that starting out, I was unsure of Mr. Mohr. However, after taking his class, I realized that I learned a lot. I didn't know it during class because I was too busy being frustrated, confused, and disliking him very much. His assignments are hard, as well as hard to understand, but you need to ask questions. He's nice, just difficult.
He is a nice guy, can get off topic really easy and it takes him a while to get back on topic. he tends to repeat himself too much. He prefers spanish girls, so if you are one you will get a good grade, he also does not like asians, im neither but it is obvious. i enjoyed this class but useless too me being a fashion major.
Professor Mohr is okay. He is hard to understand and a little forgetful. He will tell you something is correct and ten minutes later say that it is not. He is contradictory in that way. He uses some color theory work and you paint a lot. His projects require a lot of work so be ready to schedule out your time wisely or just pull all nighters!
Try to avoid taking him if you can. He's rather condescending if you ask questions and tends to be long-winded in his answers. If you ask him a yes or no question he'll waste 20 minutes of your time with an uneccessary explanation. He's also VERY inconsistent. He'll tell you something is correct one class and the next class he'll tell you it's wrong
Professor Mohr is a good sculptor; his other job is as a public sculptor. In addition, he knows Design quite well. However, he is not a painter, and he teaches his Design 1 class as if it was a painting class. He has favorites, and patronizes those who do not do well. He rambles and is unclear and contradictory. I would not recommend him to anyone.
there was someone here who said he hated asians- never bring up eastern art. Never argue with him about art history period. He'll say you're wrong and that you don't have a point-- for no reason. He's condescending to you as an artist, thinks you can't paint or draw, and overall, goes off on tangents. The only thing you're going to learn is gouache
He doesn't teach anything that's 2D related. The only thing you will learn in his class is how to paint with gouache. It's hours of him rambling about art history, and how right HE is about EVERYTHING. He asks for your opinion, then he tells you're wrong. He tells you he wants to get feedback, and then say, 'I disagree'. Transfer out if you can.
Well, you may have heard of me if you're taking his class now. I was late on the last day of class for my 5th time, and was failed for the whole quarter with a B originally. Although INCREDIBLY frustrating, Mohr is a wonderful passionate teacher! You WILL learn a lot! He IS helpful! I did appeal my failure and got a C, btw. Trust me, DO take him!!
If you can ignore the fact that he knows everything and is always right, then take the class. He grades very easily, tells you what to do to get a better grade. But don’t object anything he says. And don’t get stuck in a 1 on 1 conversation with him. It’s awkward and he will go on for like 20 minutes. It's easy, you just have to put up with him.
Although he seems to have a decent amount of knowledge in Design, he is the most frustrating Professor to get a long with. He repeats himself and is always interrupting people to tell them they're wrong and is very rude overall. He says one thing then another and failed me on a recent project because I was going on what he said. Stay far away. UGH
tells you something is correct and then next class will tell you the same thing is incorrect. Will subtly insult your intelligence artistic ability. he genuinely tries to help you which is nice. but most of the time he just confuses you more and contradicts himself. don't take his drawing for design class for any reason at all costs!!!!!
Extremely rude, his way or the highway. Expect to work your ass of for this class with little to no pay off. Stay away from this professor.
As others have stated, he's /very/ rude and condensing. Everyone is treated like a sculpture major. He's a harsh grader when it comes to creativity or neatness, and don't even think about arguing with him. Oh no, no, no. He makes sure to always have the last word. Be it picking favorites or going off on tangents, Mohr gets a ribbon.
I have not had a Professor that cared more, or should I say Mohr. Best prof I've had. But be prepared to build with precision, which I like.
This class is what you make it. Mohr is not easy to work with. He will argue with students, makes VERY rude comments, & will waste class time and materials because he is hard headed. He is on another planet. I would not recommend. I received an A and would take him again but I doubt he would be happy to see me!!
He is always right and can be very rude. The 3d Design class had no theory, and felt more like an arts and crafts class with way too much art history work. He gives you the textbook, as compensation for the expenses of the class. Seriously, 300 in materials. Do not take this class unless you can abide by his law without a hick. Nice guy otherwise.
If you hate design, don't take him.
This class was a little wishy-washy, it wasn't the hardest thing, but also not the easiest. He's a little hard to get help out of and it's really hard to get exact requirements from him because he gets off topic and is never 100% sure. He's alright, but he wouldn't be my first choice.
He is a great Professor. Very professional and likes his students to act in the same way. He has a project every 2 weeks, but the work is manageable. He is there for help if you ask for it and usually gives very helpful criticism or ideas. He also helps a lot if you're having problems with the project. Time management in key for passing the class.
Very strict but helpful professor
This class taught me a lot about time management I really saw myself improving and Mohr was always there to give me feedback. I'm taking him again next quarter just because I know he'll prepare me well for major based classes He makes you work for your grade and this class isn't for slackers If you truly want your money's worth then take his class
Expect to work a lot and take more time than what you expected. Mohr is helpful if you show him you are making the effort.
He's a great professor and he's very smart. Throughout the course he gave good general advice about the creative industry and related things which I enjoyed hearing. He's tough. But the work you put out will be amazing. You can't coast through this class but if you wanna make good work and you don't mind long nights this is for you.
He is one the best professors at SCAD. The work is challenging but not hard. That old saying practice makes perfect applies in his classroom; if you do not practice it will show in your work. Laziness is unacceptable. Do not let anyone discourage you from his class you will be skilled and advanced after your 10 weeks with him. He's incredible.
At first I hated him because he was so confusing, so strict, and asked a lot from you. By the end I kinda loved him, I definitely can say that he taught me something and he was so ridiculous that it was funny. Would I take him again? That's a close call but probably not.
Get ready to work for the class. 3D projects regularly, sketchbook work, art history work, and a paper. Do your work on time you will pass. DON'T FALL BEHIND!
I enjoyed his class, though he gets off tangent and talks a LOT. He isn't a horribly tough grader, an will allow you to redo work and turn in for a regrade, as well as let you (though don't take advantage of) show a 50% completed project and allows a week for completion. So grade wise, you can work to get an A. His projects are tough, but doable.
Almost an easy A but definitely do-able. Prof. Mohr on the other hand, talks the entire class, usually for no reason. He loves to go off on tangents and try to prove his knowledge about random artists and movements that don't relate to the discussion at hand. The critiques are the biggest waste of a class period I've ever experienced.
Excellent instructor if you have an appreciation for accuracy in 3D design. I enjoyed his critiques as well, they were very thorough and I learned a lot from them. The only issue with Professor Mohr is his tendency to be very condescending, this gets better as he gets to know you (somewhat), but definitely mentionable.
Took him for 2D design. He's a fair grader and will give a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Offers a lot of extra help sessions as well. Goes off topic a lot and wastes a lot of time on critiques but overall he's really helpful and will guide you in the right direction.
Very strict on presentation and following instructions. Very knowledgeable in design and experienced, BUT has little patience with beginners who had little to no experience to be able to meet his standards. Best take him after you take other classes to prepare for his level.
Tough but fair, he always puts in time for his students. However, his lack of patience with beginners is noticeable and somewhat demoralizing. Be prepared to work hard for your grade because he has an eagle eye for detail.
At first, cutting woods and things are hard but once you get the hang of it, it's not that hard. There might be noise complaints if you do your project in dorm. If you attend extra help session you get a lot of help and doughnuts! Overall, it was great. If you take this with a friend, you can be partners for the last project if you want
Professor Mohr is such an amazing person. I had a lot of fun in this class. Mohr is very helpful and caring, he gives extra help sessions every Friday. However, every time I needed his help he would stay after class with me to help and guide me on how my projects could be improved. Excellent professor, take him!
The best professor I have had at SCAD. He is very helpful and caring. He is a very good grader and loves to help his students. Would take him a hundred times
Expects way too much from his students and is a major narcissist. Frequently blames his students in his demos for things going wrong and probably only became a professor to show off his own work. Would not take again.
Professor Mohr is very intimidating when you first meet him, and he's definitely someone who expects work to be done his way. He will help you immediately if you ask him, and he has an extra help session basically every week. His class is solely making cubes and turning those cubes into things, and it's a lot of hard work. One research paper due.
He grades mostly based on how well you can use the materials and not the quality of your design. If you aren't good at building or fabricating things you won't get a good grade. He's not very patient and will get mad if everything is not perfect on your project. I would only take him if you're and industrial design major or something of the like.
Professor Mohr seemed really terrifying at first, but then he lightens up after the first day. His class is very challenging however, but not in a bad way. The projects you do are very interesting and you really learn something but they're SO time consuming. He is very stubborn and like he even admits, absent minded. Stand your ground respectfully.
Professor Mohr did not seem to have any regard for his students at all. He even went as far as to tell my class that we should learn "how to sleep less, and skip meals to have more time for work". Mohr expects you to put his class before anything else in your school work or life. Homework is very important, so don't fall behind.
Prof. Mohr as a person is not bad, however he expects you to do about 20 hours of work on each project. I had little free time, and not much time to do other work. On multiple projects about half the class had to turn it in late. If you care about your mental health I do not recommend him.
Mohr is a nice guy and passionate about his work. He comes off as a harsh critique, but he is lenient with his grading. There were 5 projects, a research paper, a vocabulary quiz, and 2 sketchbook checks. The work is not very hard, just very time consuming. He's a decent professor who will actually teach you something though it will be boring.
DO NOT TAKE AS A FRESHMAN!!! This professor is very condescending and intense. He often got frustrated with students who didn't take naturally to the material. He even told my class that we should learn and I quote, "how to sleep less, and skip meals to have more time for work". He does offer lots of extra help sessions and extra time on projects.
He is surprisingly a great teacher but with some rather big faults. His projects dont allow for much creative freedom nor do they touch many majors. The entire semester you are making a 12x12 cube repeatedly. The class isnt very beneficial to those with a non building sort of major. Most are going to struggle. However he will try to help in a way
Avoid this man like the plague if you have any accommodations. Even when backed by SCAD, he's very clear about how much he resents honoring them, and sometimes won't bother doing so. Gives absolutely terrible lectures, can't teach. Have to teach yourself. Apathetic about honoring transgender students' pronouns, won't make any effort to remember.
Architect majors will like him (I am and loved his class).
When I read the comments for him it made me nervous about starting his class. However, he's not as bad as his rating makes him out to be. He does babble on about interesting things and off topic things which makes classes go by slowly and we don't always get much done in class. His projects are basic and he is pretty lenient about late work.
hes not great but not despicable. gives very vague, confusing instructions and it takes some questions and talking with other classmates to figure out what to do exactly for each project, but if you follow the criteria and turn it in on time, you'll be okay. blames students for not completing their projects instead of his tough style of teaching
With the amount of homework Mohr gives I find it hard to have time for my other class projects and homework. He gives confusing instructions and gives lectures that go off in 10 different subjects that do not connect. Gave me a scenario once that was extremely harsh and brought me to tears. As a freshman in first quarter he is too harsh and tough.
Im taking his class as a freshman and please avoid him!!! My major is not art related and he doesnt understand that some people arent talented in art and are only taking this class as a graduation requirement. He piles so much work that its overwhelming. I barely get any sleep from staying up for our projects. AVOID this professor.
By far the most unprofessional teacher I have ever worked with. He lost my respect when it became apparent his behavior was not a one-off. He tended to harass kids in front of the whole class. If you are not skilled in drawing and painting, his class will be more challenging for you. You can get an A if you are motivated and proactive.
Was recently talking with friends about the all time worst teachers we've had. I've forgotten most. But one name is seared into my memory. Patrick Mohr. I graduated in 2009, and still remember how bizarre this class was, and how out of place Mohr seemed in the classroom. I'll never forget paying thousands to craft some cardboard cubes for this guy.
He is the most condescending man, has the most arrogant personality, and his interpersonal interactions are infuriating and emotionally draining. He will not hesitate to cut you off so he can talk over you. His love for design can be appreciated in small doses, but it manifests itself as his biggest fault. Don't take him too seriously, just myob.
Extremely unclear with communication, goes back on his explanations and readjusts the assignments/dates frequently. Lacks organizational skills and does not grade/respond in a timely manner to Bb. Email is probably the way to go but he is still unclear.
This class was a disaster, I had to pull an all nighter every week and constantly worked through the weekends on his projects. I followed every rubric as close as possible and he seemed to never give 100s out of spite, rather than lack of quality. Was once told that I put TOO much effort into an assignment and was docked three points for it. Crazy.
Professor Mohr's class is one I'll always remember. It required a lot of homework time and extra help sessions. However, I learned more in his class than any other foundation class. His building projects give you confidence with hands on projects, you learn to solve 3d problems and his art history side assignments are rich with information.
AVOID THIS TEACHER PLEASE!! This Professor almost made me drop out, he is the worst teacher I ever had, I even had to talk to the head of foundation studies because his class was just so bad. His emails are unclear, he makes up his own rubric and grades off of that without showing his rubric. He is the most tough grader teacher ever and he is mean
Don't take this professor. He changes criteria for assignments on a whim and expects you to watch all 2 hours of the non-mandatory Zoom meetings (which is a waste of time if you're an independent/super busy student who just likes to work from the directions given). His feedback is often vague and unspecific unless you email him directly and ask.
this professor is extremely unclear and his communication is sub-par at best. he is very confusing with his lectures and is kind of ridiculous. he should not be allowed to have an in person class and a virtual class at the same time. i think its just too much to juggle for him.
I was worried going into his class after seeing so many bad reviews but he ended up being my favorite professor! A tough grader (don't expect to be seeing many 100s if any) But very knowledgeable, friendly, and prone to mini lectures. The real struggle will be getting a straight answer out of him for questions. Work hard and talk to him! He's great
This man has the communication skills of a kindergartener. It feels like his emails are in an entirely different language. He's also the most condescending professor I've ever had. He talks to his students like their middle schoolers. Every single interaction I had with him left me feeling insecure and mentally drained.
He's a little forgetful and you need to be patient with him because at times it can be frustrating but he loves what he does and loves his students.
Mohr is discouraging at best and just downright mean. His assignments are kind of interesting and you can choose your subject but the environment in class is the worst. He would go on weird tangents during critiques and measure your dimensions so they are accurate by the inch. The projects are easy but time consuming, you don't get time to do them.
