Nice guy, very fun, always prepare for the class. His class is not that hard as long you always do his homework and you will have good job in his class!! But the only weakness is he is not that smart...if u r hard worker n wanna get good grade...get him!
He is so cool. He looks good with his suit on. I like the way he speaks. Recommended for those who like Calculus.
A teacher's teacher. Mr. Morriss should teach master classes to the other teachers on how to teach.
No matter you like math. or not, I'm sure you will like his class. Strongly recommended.
Inspirational, to the point, accurate, just and fair, should be voted teacher of the year. What more can I say? This math class should be named this way Math 1D: Have a sucky teacher lately? Take the Morriss' class!
He's cool, nice and funny. I like his teaching style. However, I agree that he is not that smart because he always make stupid mistake. His overall performance is good though.
He is really good. Highly recomen you take his class...
morris is a really, *really* great teacher. yeah, he's hard and his standards are high, but come on, it's multivariable-vector calculus!always finds real life examples to use for the very difficult concepts and what all the stupid formulas actually mean.
Morriss is a cool professor. His standard is not as easy as some people said---easy A. No, he's not an easy A teacher. But among other math teachers, you get a much better chance to achieve a good grade in his class.
Mr Morriss rocks!
Super Cool~~ Needs a lot of thinking in his class though. A funny guy and a helpful person. 1 test per session and 2 mid terms. Grading is fair and very generous in grading too. Take his math classes for sure
His quizzes are easy. The only thing you have to do is to pay attention during class. All are basic stuff.
I love this teacher. He is really good. If you want to learn, have fun and enjoy a differential equation class, take him. He gives a quiz after each section, but they are not difficult. Midterms and final are hard.
He is the best Math teacher!!! His classes are fun and interesting. He is a really nice person and even if you don't like math at all, you will enjoy his class. I strongly recommend you to take his class.
needa do by myself
Mr. Morriss is the greatest! He helped me so much. I learned a lot in his class and even gained a greater appreciation of math. If you are not good in math you must take him, he will teach you how to learn. He's a brilliant and inspiring human being. :)
Awesome teacher! I forgot I was even in a math class. Really takes his time, yet somehow kept up with the syllabus. The mini 6 point quizzes everyday really helped me keep up with the material. I say this class was easy because of the way he set it up.
I like his class. You won't get bored. If you are going to take his class, well I can tell you that you are going to have quizes almost everyday. He is a really good teacher. If you study everyday just for his quizes you do not need study for Exam.
Nice person and good teacher, but it is hard to get a good grade in his class because some of things on the final and midterm we don't even cover during the course.
Excellent techaer, the best I've had so far at Foothill! Brilliant math teacher, seems to like his job a lot, a great sense of humor. Must take him if you have to take Math49, his every-day quizzes might seem a little too much, but they make you study.
He talks as though he knows the materials really well when the truth is he doesn't. He talks more about his experiences in his university days and stories about vector fields but not much about the REAL theory underlying the vector fields.
HE is a nice teacher. If you enjoy having funny lessons, you should take his classes. I took his Math 2A class. Actually, he presents the theories pretty clear, but, not profound enough. However, I think college math classes are self-studying class.
Don't really favor his teaching style, try taking better professors if possible (Seelbach, Stanley and Strand).
This teacher is terrible. Try taking this class with other available teacher if you can!
Mr. Morriss is a kind of math instructors I had never seen since I started to learn math. Although he said that you are teachers rather than him, you will get his help a lot during office hours. So I can say he is an incredibly enthusiastic instructor.
This guy is all show and not much substance. Skips a lot of material, quizzes often but pretty easy. If you want to learn some math, take one of the male names with last name starting with "S". You'll get a lot more information.
Professor Morriss is a great teacher! In the beginning, I was stressed over the fact that he gave out quizzes frequently (2-3 a week). However, once I got the hang of it, it wasn't too bad. Fair, concise, and friendly. What more could you ask for?
Mr. Morriss was a great teacher! At first I was bothered by the fact that he assigns homework, but doesn't collect it, or give points for it, but this is how you learn (in his class) and prepare for his frequent (but low point-value) quizes.
Listen, the thing with Mr. Morriss is that he's a great guy, very clear, very helpfull, and his midterms and finals aren't that hard. BUT, he has a quiz like every other day, and that's what KILLS most people's grades. An A or B can go to a C from them, n
he is very helpful and will to go of his way to help you understad math and he makes math fun
His quizzes is the killer. 20 quizzes and 6 point each. That's 1/3 of the grade. If you fail one quiz then most probably you're going to say bye to your A. Other than that, he is very good.
In math classes you are piled night and day with homework. With Morris your afe cuz he gives out homework but you don't have to do it.
Great teacher, very liberal. I liked him alot.
Really great teacher. Loves what he does, which goes a long way when you hate math. Hes also very understanding about LD's (learning disabilities). He doesn't let you off the hook, but seems to better understand, and be a bit more willing to help when he knows its not just you being lazy.
just forget about it.. go take with somebody else if you really want to LEARN something AND if you want to make your trips to class worhwhile.. Take him only if there's no other choice.. Seelbach will be a great choice (Definitely take Seelbach if he's scheduled to teach)
AWSOME TEACHER. Mr. Morriss helps you as much as he can. He makes difficult algebra a piece of cake. All of my life people told me I could'nt do math. I pulled an A out of his class. Now what does that tell you? Yeah, he's that good.
Mr. Morriss is the best math teacher I have ever had. You will learn alot from him. If you want easy, go elsewhere. If you want to learn calculus, take it with him.
Best math teacher I've ever had. He focuses heavily on concepts. I liked his teaching methods because I'm usually lazy and dont do any work unless there is a quiz. Tthere is a quiz just about every other day so it kept me moving (simple fast quizzes). Very clear and intuitive lectures. Loves math.
Prof. Morriss is one of those extraordinary teachers you encounter a few times in your life. He loves math and is very good at teaching it. Listen in class, do your homework, and ask questions and you will do well.
He's teaching is really clear and helpful for you to understand all the materials.Homework discussion and quizes are useful too. There's a quiz per section help you to study and get an idea of the section. He's quiz and exam problems are quite straight forward and it's easy if you really understand.
Good teacher. The quizzes are really helpful. I definitely recommend him.
Don't worry about your finals. Do your best, he knows how much you've learned. And you will always get the grade you expected.
I wish this guy was my dad :/
If there is any techer that can make a student love a subject they previously HATED it's this one! Best professor EVER! Daily quizzes seem irritating at first, but they keep you on your toes for the exams. I'm terrible at math and i'm getting an A and i am excited about learning more math which is a miracle in itself. Take every class he does.
Mr. Morriss is simply the best! It's rare to have a teacher with such a passion for their subject. He WANTS you to succeed. If you fail, it's your own fault for not getting help! To do well in the class: Show up everyday for the quizzes, do the homework, ASK QUESTIONS AND GET HELP BEFORE YOU GET BEHIND! Mr. Morriss rules!
Speaking as someone who hates math with a passion, I found this class to be surprisingly tolerable. Morriss is a really nice guy and realizes when one is putting in the effort.
don't bother
I loved him! he explains things very thuroughly and everyone in my class was asking if he would be teaching math 105 cuz we wanted him again! hes very nice. just pay attention to class and do ur best to understand the material and you'll get an easy A!
Mr. Morriss is the best math teacher, and possibly the best overall teacher I've EVER had. All my life I hated and struggled in math, but he actually made me understand it and I looked forward to class. He has an incredibly clear teaching style. I've never had a "lightbulb turning on" moment until his math class. I'm in 105 now and already confused and hating it.... I miss Mr. Morriss!!!
Hard class. Quizzes all the time.
He is absolutely the most helpful and motivating teacher I've ever met. He made me want to become a teacher, so I can steal all his methods and make everyone in the world understand that math is truly everywhere... and it is deep stuff!!! Morriss is a math teacher worthy of waiting!
He is one of the teachers that history books should write about. Love him!
OK, seriously, best teacher in the world. HW isnt requried, but there are quizzes every day kind of about the, so do it, its helpful. totally dont hafta to be there, but again, if you miss class the zeros on the quizzes add up. hes amazlingly good. one of the best teachers ive ever had for anything. very smart, bery interested in HELPING YOU IF YOU
Extremely fair. Quizzes are HARD, tests are challenging, finals are easy. I, personally like this format because he really knows how to keep you up to speed. If you are doing well on his quizzes, you should have no trouble with anything else. I seam to have a knack for pissing him off, though.
Has the right approach to teaching, which is to draw latent understanding out from the students, rather than just have them memorize crap they'll never use. Super cool guy, very interested in your success, but you have to at least meet him halfway. Homework is never collected, attendence in class is not mandatory. Good man.
Excellent instructor. Highly recommended. Very little homework. Almost daily quizzes, which he allows you to do in groups. 2 midterms and 1 final (no groups for these) which can be a little challenging, but he apparently curves his grades. Overall, I'm impressed with how you actually learn the material with his methods. Super cool guy too!
he is a great teacher if you're willing to try. i would say he is the best math teacher i've ever had because he makes you think for yourself without abandoning you to the wolves. always ready to help when you approach him, and tries to make the class as interactive as possible. i highly recommend him if you want/have to take this class!
One of my 3 favorite teachers. Loves the material, is willing to go the extra mile for students. Depending on the classroom he can be very strict on tardiness. He is truly a great math teacher, had him for both Vector Calc, and DiffEq. If you want to learn rather then memorize this is the teacher.
Take Morris if you want to learn the material, if you are interested. He is clear, conceptual, funny, and you won't fail if you try. I really enjoyed his class, but then again, I am down with math.
A humorous teacher, dedicated to students and teaching the material with clarity creates a fun and educational classroom. Sorry if it sounds corny but it's true.
Morriss hands down best teacher on the planet. enough said.
One of the best math professors I've ever had. He keeps the subject interesting the class entertaining. Be aware that there are no multiple choice tests; everything is written out. I found that helpful, however, because he gives partial credit if he can see what you're thinking. I'd definitely recommend him.
Best teacher I've ever had, in any subject. This after 6 previous years of college. Kept class very engaged, totally fair grading, emphasized learning concepts above all else, fabulous at understanding and answering questions, perfect class pacing, etc.
Very good instructor. He welcomes EVERY student that wants to learn math. He does not play favorites and he encourages as many people as possible to succeed. I've experienced other instructors at foothill and they pale in comparison to him.
he is cool~! The class is a discussion class. By teaching and learning from students sitting behind you is really helpful. The beoga (online textbook)is much better and more clear than the normal one. HE will show you current grade thoughout the quarter, which i really like~ highly reconmanded~
I wish he taught calculus. He's way better than any other instructor at foothill. Some instructors are pompous and brag about their retention rate or how they wrote the survival guide, but morris just keeps it real and gets the job done. He reaches out to the students and shows them how to succeed.
Excellent teacher !!! makes math easier for everyone :)
Great, great, great, great teacher. Loved his class, I learned not only math but how to apply it to everything in life. His passion for the subject is highly contagious, I definitely recommend his class.
He is just great! Have quiz every lesson, but u can discuss with ur friends everytime, so u will definitely get full marks for the quiz. He is a funny teacher and gives some extra credits!
Pat is rad. He started the class by telling us that he wasn't our teacher, which left us wondering who was... turns out that WE were. Dude really knows his stuff and is skilled at making numbers understandably relevant to real life. Would surely recommend him, but don't expect to slack off and pass. Very fair, especially if you try. Take!
Best math teacher ever! Half the quizes are group quizes and the take home tests are the most interesting problems you will ever see. He loves to connect everything you learn to real life, especially engineering. No midterm, just quizes and a final
great teacher.Have quiz everyday, but you can discuss all questions with your friend or look your book .However, his midterm is not easy, you really have to work hard to get a good grade. Also, he doesn't accept late work, nothing can be make up.in addition, he is a great teacher, i learned a lot in his class.I definitely recommend his class
BEWARE! Very deceptive professor. He is a very cool dude but he has a short every day. Yes, EVERY day. His quizzes cover the concepts of the subject but are nothing like the HW problems. He is willing to help those who need it which is cool but his quiz policy makes it pretty hard to get an A.
I failed his class and still think he's the best math teacher I've ever had. Attendance is key, cause there is a quiz every day. But you do them in groups and it's more about making sure you understand the material than it is about the grade. He's a fair grader: if you score poorly on exams, he'll just put more weight on the final. Good dude.
Morriss is an awesome teacher! No homework, but theres a daily quiz on material from last class (you can look @ notes+txtbook & talk w/classmates for help). Take good notes & you'll do great on quizzes. Tests aren't too hard. Final grade based on how well he thinks youre prepared for Calc. Study well, show him what you know & you should get an A.
He is a good "teacher", but overall he is a cocky ****. Most of the math instructors at Foothill lack social skills.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! I chose him after I checked his rating here, but the rating was not correct!! First, he doesn't teach anything. He just expects students to teach themselves. We have to teach ourselves through Beoga which is a $65 e-book. The big problem is that quizzes and practice materials are so difficult because those are totally differ
Even tutors had problems of solving his questions. Tutors said that they?ve never seen those type of questions, and those were so confusing. And also, he said, ?I?m not your private tutor!? when my class mate asked questions a lot.
Tries to stay cool, easy to talk to and connect with. Holds your hand a little too much sometimes, to the point where class gets suupper slow, but knows how to teach well, and tries to get you to UNDERSTAND rather than LEARN.
This class is hard overall. Morriss is a friendly professor...but when it comes to quizzes or tests...he'll kill your gpa. I got a B- and it really pull down my gpa. He'll give u an A if u ace the final exam even if u fail ur midterms...but if u have problem with his quizzes/midterms...the final will be hard. His class is about critical understandi
He is very helpful. And although it is nice that the student chooses to get a textbook or not, I would recommend getting one that he is familiar with. There will be a quiz 1-2xweek. HW not collected. Projects are REALLY FUN. This is not an easy class, but one's understanding will increase dramatically. Plus, he is a VERY FAIR grader.
he's a really great guy, and has some amazing ideas. OK as a teach, not bad. Love his idea of in-class quizzes, they make you learn from mistakes. dont like the midterms, super hard. fair grading, but u need to work. WORD HARD FOR FINAL, or else u land up wih a lousy B- like me. he's always willing to help. nice chap. makes class stress free.
He has his biases that MATH 2A shouldn't be a cookbook type of class that you forget after you take; which makes his class less analytical, but lectures are very understandable and purposeful. 5 take-home exams in the form of math papers (challenging). No in-class midterms. 15 group quizzes (you can check your answers with your neighbors').
Ok straight up. This is is probably the best teacher I have ever had. If you need help. Ask. He encourages you to learn on your own, will give you time to do so, so it will stick in your head. I wish I could take him for every math class for the rest of my life! He is a freaking Rockstar!
It's kind of hard to rate him as a teacher/professor, being as he didn't really teach. He has the class read the online lectures on Beoga and quizzes you on it the next class. On second thought, he does lecture for ~10 min each class and the rest is quiz/group work time. Prepare before class and find a group to study/work with (group quizzes)!
This guy doesnt mess with attendance so show up on time OR BEWARE! good teacher with a solid sense of humor. Quizzes were take home or group but were NOT easy. Dont fall behind in the class and youll do fine.
I love Beoga! I replay the videos til I GET it - no more boring textbooks! Do yourself a favour- be prepared for class- go through lessons on Beoga - the Prof prepared those lectures and he makes it easy - no complicated equations. Watching the lessons and attempting quizzes ahead of class is one way you won't fall behind. I love this prof!
AWESOME. Best teacher ever!! Wish i could take him for every class
Constantly pushes students out of their comfort zone. Almost never uses the textbook. Quizzes practically every day. Papers due practically every week. Lots of group activity. Funny, cunning and enthusiastic. Also quite eccentric, brutally honest and terse. Overall, an excellent teacher. Highly recommended.
Professor Morriss is an excellent teacher. He makes class engaging; it's obvious that he truly enjoys teaching stats. His quizzes encourage students to think and discuss curious problems that often reveal funny & interesting surprises! I also love the "Not Your Grade Sheet"! It's rare to find a math teacher who isn't numerical about grading.
He's friendly, energetic, and charismatic which makes Statistics more fun. Was a little worried when he said I am not the teacher, but he is really a good guy. You will do just fine if you do your work.
an intelligent guy. no individual quizzes at all. but at least one group quiz each week and they were very hard. required a lot of thinking in the class and he likes to make student think outside the box. 2 Individual papers and the final were pretty hard too. but you would definitely learn a lot from his class. challenging but fun!
He is an amazing teacher! I took stats to fill a requirement, but he really got me interested in it. I didn't understand some of the topics covered, but he is a no BS type of teacher. He's smart and doesn't talk down to you. He won't waste your time, and you'll get something out of his class. It's not a class to slack off in, though.
Dude rocks! The most progressive teacher I've ever experienced...I've taken around 155 units. Take him for stats and you'll pass. I promise.
Mr. Morriss is by far the best teacher I've ever had. He explains things down to every detail and makes time for every student. We only have one test which is the final and the tests are replaced with take home papers and a few individual quiz's. He is an outstanding teacher and I hated math before and now I it is my favorite subject.
Mr. Morriss is an incredible teacher. He both explains math in very good detail and makes time for each student to help you out. He is very knowledgable and has a great sense of humor. We only have a final as a test an the rest is papers, a few individual quizzes and a lot of group quizzes. I used to hate math and now it is my favorite subject.
Good guy. Quiz every class but you can talk or even ask him about your answer!
He's pretty passionate, his class is so interesting I love his class. he grades fair. You have to study yourself online ,he has quiz every time and then he clarify the subject which was an interesting teaching style for me. TOTALLY RECOMMENDED
Great teacher... probably the best math class I've ever taken!
Prof. Morriss is great! I took him in my first quarter, and he amazed me with how fun math was. He encouraged me not to repeat questions I already know, and helped me a lot with his worksheets which he posts on Course Studio. Attendance is mandatory, because every day there are quizzes. Overall, thanks, Prof. Morriss! (TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
He is a amazing teacher. I love his lecture so much and he is really funny and helpful. At first, i hate math so much and he do encourage me. i do recommend this professor for all of you guys.
Pr. Morriss was a challenging professor. Don't get behind in this class. But if you work hard (and show up!), he provides great support.
Prof. Morriss is seriously a great teacher! I would definitely recommend taking Math 105 with him. I learned a whole lot in this class. You just need to be self motivated and willing to learn.
At first I was very nervous about this class because the first day he said "I'm not the teacher".. So I was like "ugh I am going to have to teach my self EVERYTHING!" Well that was not the case after all he happened to be a very good professor I would highly recommend him! You will have a quiz everyday, so attendance is very important.
Such a nice man but overall I felt like I didn't learn much. Not that the material was confusing but we did such basic math (group quizzes every day during class) and the exams were a piece of cake. I throughly enjoyed the class and Mr. Morriss as a professor but not a lot of detailed teaching was done for me.
Patrick is a great teacher and really cares about his students. He is very helpful when it comes to quizzes (every day group) and "papers" (7 total). No textbook. He goes over everything and makes sure the material is understood. If you pay attention and ask questions, there's no reason you should not pass this class.
Professor Morris is an amazing teacher. Passing his class is easy as long as you know how the basic calculation and materials. Getting an A is not that difficult if you show him you have earned it with 19 group quiz, 3 individual quiz, 1 paper hw, 1 group project: collecting data. Overall, I have learned so much from this class.
Great class/professor, super helpful office hours. Quizzes similar to notes/book not required/4 fun assigns(long application problems). I feel like a stronger CS student, as unlike other profs he focuses on the skills that carry over to algorithms/data-structures + has some fun lectures on CS applications (cryptography/sorting/time-complexity).
After looking back, the class wasn't that hard. I'm HORRIBLE in stats. So, you really need to buckle down and understand the material. If you don't understand, PLEASE go to him b/c he has his own style of teaching. The individual quizzes are on what you learned in the previous class. If you prove to him that you deserve an A, you'll get an A.
Amazing lecturer - clear, engaging, and interactive. He challenges you to think conceptually during lectures and is super helpful during OH. Many fun weekly group quizzes and 4 papers that are essentially your "midterms". He also replies to email quickly as well. His lectures also includes and exemplifies many real world applications for CS.
I LITERALLY LOVE HIM. If you need to take the math class, he's the best prof. He uses beoga, but it is so clear when we work on stuff in class. You have quizzes every class, most of which are group quizzes. He's actually the best person ever. TAKE HIM.
I didn't enjoy his class. You do all of the quizzes in group then you have the final by yourself so you aren't prepared. I strongly didn't like like this class
Be adult: DO all the homework, STUDY the Beoga material: THAT is your prep for the next quiz and class (every class begins with a quiz.) Stay on top of the work, and you'll do well. There is loads of study material, which goes through the concepts step by step. Study ahead, and don't skip class! He makes Statistics understandable and even relevant.
He makes math interesting using lots of animated examples in his lectures. He is very approachable outside of class and office hours are helpful. Keep up with all the homework and show up and you will do well.
One of my favorite professors. Really manages to make sure that everyone is clear on the curriculum and is always willing to help. Plus, he looks like the professor from Whiplash (ironic cause they don't act anything alike).
He is my favorite teacher of all time and I learned so much. We have group quizzes everyday that really make you think. During the group quizzes you can ask anyone in the class as well as the teacher. He wants you to learn and relates what we are learning to current issues. We have 3 individual quizzes during the quarter and no midterm.
Morriss does not only teach you about stats, he teaches you how to think. If you care about what you are doing, he cares more than you. Many people told me they sometimes get A for math 10, but they do not know what the equations on the calculator mean. In Morriss's class, you'll understand entry-level stats in depth if you actually think.
At first, I was a little intimidated by his unique teaching and grading system, but I grew to love it. The system really helps you get the grade that he deserves. His class is fairly easy, but don't get me wrong. It is is a lot of work still. His class consists of many group quizzes, 3 individual quizzes. 1 paper, and 1 group project. Take him!!!!
Make wise choices who you surround yourself with in his class. He makes it a point to tell you "Surround Yourself with quality people" Group work is a big part of class. Individual effort also noted but there are about 20 group quizzes. You can work with those around you so pick wisely.
Patrick actually wants you to succeed in his class. He gives great lectures and makes you understand the criteria, he is funny and kind, there are two projects (1 group, 1 alone), lots of group work (you learn better that way), lots of calculator usage, If you skip class you can make up your work for a lower grade. I LOVE THIS TEACHER!
This class is good if you just want an easy A. He bases his decision on your grade from all the group quizzes, individual quiz and final. I didn't really find his teaching style helpful for me but many of my other classmates seemed suited for it. I ended up only showing up at the beginning of lecture for the quiz then I would leave.
Morris is a great guy very kind but those qualities don't make of for the lack of the horrible teaching skills. Yes, go ahead and take his class if you want an easy A but in honesty by the end of the quarter, you'll feel that you've wasted your time. He is not a professor, he does not teach but he hands out problem that you can work with a group :(
Hands down the best math teacher I have ever had, show up to class and do 'group quizzes' everyday and you will pass. Not a lot of lecture, more group work but show up and participate and it will be impossible to fail. Taking him next quarter too!
Patrick is a great professor, he notes who is doing well and recognizes your effort. His lectures are pretty good and understandable. He is very understanding about the fact that we are in college and have other responsibilities, great professor would take him for all my math classes if I could.
One of the greatest professors in foothill, he cares about you and he does want you to be successful in his class. It is group quiz every day, follow up with lectures on new materials and sample problems. You don't really need to buy the online content/textbook if you plan to attend class every day.
Very passionate prof. Heavy emphasis on group quizzes daily preparing you for the few individual quizzes that are more weighted. Ask questions when youre confused bc you basically take notes from the online website he uses to introduce topics, then attempt it with your group. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH GOOD PEOPLE especially for the term project
I thought I was going to do horribly in statistics. I have never been a math person but I fully understood the concept taught in this class. The group project was not as difficult as I originally thought and the quizzes either group or individual were nothing to really stress over.
Really funny, really good math teacher. I enjoyed his course, and I was able to learn most of the applications :)
Studying the internet source he provides is definitely helpful, but not absolutely necessary. Take good notes, don't slack off in class, or else you won't be prepared for the quizzes (working together and asking each other questions a lot helps a lot). (Statistics)
One of the most amazing professors at Foothill. His lectures are pure delight and his passion for math is contagious. Makes classroom a safe space for making mistakes and expressing yourself. Has tons of materials online, prefers group quizzes. Very engaging and caring, highly recommended. Will take his classes again at the first opportunity.
This guy was the best teacher I've ever had! His stats lectures are so interesting and as long as you par attention in class, you should be fine as far as grades. You'll learn a lot. He respects your time (you'll see when you take his class) and you to succeed. No trick questions and a lot of open note group work.
He is a really interactive professor. If you really want to learn about differential equations, he is the best choice in college. He doesn't give midterms but hands out papers which are tough as hell. But he allows open book quizzes and papers and allows group work on paper and quizzes.
Best math professor ever. Super easy class. There's no homework, and the grades are mainly based on the daily quizzes. More than half of the time doing quizzes you work within groups and then partly by yourself. No midterm, and the project is easy to do. I got mainly A's on quizzes, so he exempted me from the final.
There is a online text book Beoga he uses. There are assignments I suggest you do to keep up and understand the class. There are two quizzes a week but if you read the online book you would be fine. It is group testing as well as individual. Try not to miss class because you will feel lost. Mr. Patrick is awesome.
Professor Morriss is an incredible teacher who gives absolutely no busy work and focuses on learning. There is a lot of group work and time to ask questions and get support. Every class there is an open-note quiz that includes both solo time and group time. The only homework is to study the material. He also focuses on real-world application.
No extra credit but the top students got to skip finals. Always on realxing jazz music. Class starts with quiz on the content of previous class. Grade based on how you are willing to write more amd show your understanding, rather than just getting the right answer. Class content is based on daily life and Patricks class is truly inspirational.
Professor Morris was amazing! He is very friendly and really wants you to succeed. Class attendance is very crucial and he is very inspirational. He will help throughout the course.
Amazing professor. Definitely take him. All the tests are taken in groups and is basically taking about the problem. He made me WANT to come to class cause he made the lecture so fun. There are 4 take home papers, a group quiz once or twice a week, and a final. Never thought Id enjoy a professor this much.
Patrick Morriss is excellent; he covers all of the material in class and describes the quizzes in advance. He lets students collaborate on quizzes and has an informal grading scheme that uses letter grades on assignments instead of points. His slides do have a few typos, but he is quick to correct them (and give extra credit) when pointed out.
Patrick is one of the best professors I've ever had. If you need discrete math this should be your number one pick. Graded by 13 group quizzes and 4-5 take home assignments, and one final which you don't have to take if you're an A student. No textbook required, free pdf on google. Very lenient, funny and easy to talk to. Definitely recommend!
He is one of the most popular professor for Math 10. Honestly, it was my best math teacher. If you do not feel confident or esl student you will pass his class without problems. Most of the people pass his class with A, but I was to busy working on other classes at the end, so I got B. Whatever, it was a fun journey. You will get tutor in class!!
He is really good at making confusing and difficult concepts super easy. His lectures are really good and the class is super easy because of how his lectures are set up he also allows group quizzes etc. But if you pay attention you can also learn a lot from this class.
I absolutely loved this class. This was my 2nd time taking statistics because I didn't do well in high school. Morriss made the concepts so easy to grasp and I learned a lot. All quizzes and tests are collaborative, and there is one group research paper which we had class time to work on. I was even exempt from the final because I had a high grade.
Amazing professor! Lectures are fun and engaging. We had: several quizzes (gave us 30min to discuss quiz questions in a group); four papers (the most interesting homework I have ever had)! It might be helpful to have a book, but Patrick is very helpful after class and approachable via email. Take his class, and you'll start to think differently!
This class consists of 1 quiz each week, 4 take home papers and a final. Quizzes and final are group work. Professor Morriss is such a gem, he's very nice, helpful and hilarious.
I really enjoyed MATH 22. The papers were challenging and interesting (kind of like a mathematical jigsaw puzzle). In addition to learning the material discussed in class, Professor Patrick wants you to practice thinking critically. The quizzes are collaborative, so it is critical to find students you can work well with as a team!
He is an amazing stats teacher who wants to teach his students statistics instead of giving them a hard time. I would say his class is an achievable A if you prove to him that you understand the material. With his unique grading system, an understanding of the material equals an A. Sign up for him asap bc he is highly demanded w/ a long waitlist
He managed to make a math class something that I looked forward to attending. Great lecturer too. Between the lectures, assignments, and group quizzes you really learn the material.
A really great professor! Had a super short quiz once a week and was always there to help answer questions. Super caring about his students, and cares about you trying rather than having to be perfect. Definitely recommend taking a class with him!
He believes in that we are the teachers! He presents us with information and allows us to work with each other to put our minds together and figure out problems with more examples than just 1. He cares a lot and is dedicated to showing you how math is all around us, and how it really does relate to the real world, and he explains how! TAKE HIM!!!
If you see Mr. Patrick as an option, just sign up now. Dear lord, what a wonderful man he is, I've only known him for 3 months now & I loved him. Loves to get to know everyone & is super knowledgeable. If you're the type of person that falls off the wagon for a month, it's okay, late work is fine! Final is optional and he like jazz and rap.
Mr. Patrick is honestly such an amazing professor, and you can tell he really loves what he does. Lots of the assignments happen in class, and you're encouraged to work in groups, which I found super helpful.
Take him! Gives B task and A task. If you want to earn a B only do B task, if you want to get an A do both A and B task. You work in a group to complete B task, and then submit by end of class. Just get a good group and youll do just fine. Dont like your grade, hell let you take a final with 3 questions to increase the grade.
As someone who usually hates math, I loved this class. No tests! The final is optional if you want to boost your grade. Most assignments are completed in class, and Mr. Patrick is great to go to for help or feedback.
Professor Morriss is definitely the best and most caring math professor I have ever had! His assignments were very hands-on and we got to work in groups. He was also very funny in class and made sure you understood the material while also encouraging us to keep on trying. The exams were take-home and I learned a lot from them overall. Take him!
Such an enjoyable math class. Assignments are group-based, so it is very beneficial to find others to consistently work with. The grading is very lenient so you will spend more time enjoying the work rather than stressing over fine details. If you don't get something correct the first time, you have chances to retry the work with solid feedback.
Patrick is a really great professor. Engaging and thoughtful lectures are paired with in-class work that is interesting and engaging. He heavily encourages participation as well as working with your classmates, and gives good feedback on assignments. I looked forward to having my brain hurt and my mind blown every class period.
An easy professor. Has 2 type of task known as bee and owl works. If you complete all the bee work, you get a B grade. Finish the 3 owl work and you get an A. The final is just a homework and is optional, and is only used to boost your grade.
I am not a math person. When I take a math class, it's because it's required. But this class restored my math-confidence. It's hard to explain but on an emotional level I don't feel powerless anymore? I could see Mr. Patrick's teaching style being hit-or-miss for some. For me, nothing has worked better. You'd be a fool to miss this one, seriously.
Mr. Morriss is an extremely generous grader. Very easy to get an A. He cares about creating a positive learning experience. Most of your work is in class in a group setting. If you want to learn a lot, it's up to you to watch the "book" videos **before** class. Do that, and you will get an A. Statistics is key for any STEM career.
Professor Morriss is a super kind professor. He cares about all the students in the classroom, and welcomes them. Everyone is included when they take a class from Professor Morriss. He also gives you so many opportunities to connect with everyone else, and learn how to teach Math to Elementary kids! Professor Morris is one of the best prof!
Morris really cares about your success in the class. This class structure is not typical. Among other things, the midterm and final are class reflections of the professor. He will change how you view yourself and how you view approaching math and other learning in general. If I could write more I would. All I can say is trust the process.
My favorite professor ever! His teaching style, jokes, lectures, examples, etc... were literally perfect. His grading is very clear! Only math class I've actually enjoyed being in! Teaches out of slides which give very good examples. Material is all available online as well. Homework is very manageable. You pick your own grade at the end!
I have to say Patrick Morriss is a wonderful professor I have seen ever. he is a humorous guy and his lecture is also really fun and easy. we have two different work to do, bee work and owl work. If you do both works and also do well, you will easily get an A. Trust me take him class, you won't be disappointed !!!!!!!!!
The best math class I have ever taken. Explains concepts by straight examples and interesting challenges, the classroom activity is so amazing that I learnt a lot without spending much time after class. Please take his class.
He's your best shot for stats
Professor Morriss teaches while making it fun. He encourages a lot of group work and collaboration to find the correct answer (hypothesis) for problems and gives you good feedback to improve. Liked his class.
Professor Patrick is amazing. This was the easiest math class I've ever taken. Each day we had bee work, that we had the whole class time to complete. Easy grading as well. If you do the bee work, you will get a B. If you do the owl and bee work you will get a A!
It's a shame that I could only select three tags to describe Professor Morriss. He's without a doubt, the best teacher I have had throughout my entire academic career. He's super helpful when it comes to answering questions. Going as far as staying later after class hours. He gives great feedback and his lectures are super useful. He's The Best!!!!
Goat status. Very clearly cares about the well-being of his students. He also understands the content very well and is very knowledgeable. Assignments are generally short, but challenging enough to be engaging. There isn't a (required) final in the class. Just show up to class, do the work, and this should be an easy A.
An open-minded professor who creates a community. He's an amazing teacher, and the way he goes about teaching his students is both very clever and something you'll need to experience for yourself to understand. Bonus, he plays great music every class.
