Patrick is an amazing and hot! He made me love Sociology and you can tell he has a true passion for it. He is a hard grader, needing a 93% to get an A, but it is all based on lecture and book. Overall he's straight forward and encourages participation. There are pop quizzes on some articles every few weeks but no homework besides some reading.
Great Prof! Come to class, take good notes, you'll learn a lot. Really good at using media and examples to get the class involved. I would def recommend.
Great professor, I can actually say I learned how messed up our country is,haha! Hes straight forward, gives random and extra credit quizzes!
Best class I have ever taken not to mention how attractive he is. The lectures are sometimes long but very interesting. The tests are straight forward if you read. By far the best class I have ever taken.
Patrick is an awesome professor and made Social Problems really interesting without expressing a biased opinion. He has reasonable office hours and allows you to schedule make up tests outside of class which is really nice. He is definitely very attractive and definitely shows off his buttocks. Overall, I highly recommend his class.
TAKE THIS CLASS! Patrick is AMAZING; very clear, his lectures are super interesting, and all you have to get an A is come to class and do the reading. I honestly looked forward to coming to class because of how easy it was to stay interested in the material. DISCLAIMER: He is so hot, sometimes it's hard to focus.
His lectures are engaging, very informed. Tests can be tough but he always tries to help with extra credit and in class activities. He is really into the material, he wants you to do well in the class. Come to class, read, take notes you'll be fine. I would recommend!
Patricks's a good Prof. The best thing is that his final isn't cumulative so you just need to follow the material throughout the semester and youll do great. He gives you the tools to get a A if you put the effort in.
Fantastic professor, my 1st soc class and I really enjoyed it. Extremely enthusiastic about his job. Class was great, attendance was not mandatory but he does give quizzes for credit every 2nd day of the week. Also lots of ex credit just for doing activities in class. Totally willing to work w/ you. Really cool guy, kept the class very interesting.
He is an awesome teacher. Clear and interesting lectures. The study guides are really helpful. Also he's super hot.
Amazing teacher!! He is extremely clear about what he expects and wants you to succeed. Patrick makes the lectures interesting and cares about his students. He is really funny and bonus he is hot. 4 exams (including final) and optional extra credit essay. Do the work and you will get a good grade.
Funny guy, lets you know how he feels.
Patrick is a very funny professor, so he keeps lecture interesting. If you do your homework and study a bit for every exam you will pass. This class is very interesting and I would definitely recommend it.
One of my favorite professors. He is really passionate about what he teaches and the content is super interesting. I really enjoyed his class, and hes really hot so thats an added bonus (and motivation to go to class). The only part i struggled with was the tests, the wording can be difficult
He is one of the few professors out there who is still passionate about his job. He tries to connect with his sudents and keep them interested. His exams are difficult due to the wording, but if you study, you should be fine. Oh, and he's super hot. Take his class.
I have been taking SBCC classes for a few years now and this class has been one of my favorites so far. In order to do well in this class you really have to read the required readings, and make sure your assignments are very well written. However, if you are looking for an easy and yet interesting class then this is the class for you.
Easy one of the best teachers I've ever had!
He teaches the subject well and is relatable to students. His ability to actively engage with students is a plus considering the subject material. Show up and you'll do fine.
Patrick is a good professor. I do not like a few of his teaching methods, but he is very approachable. His tests are confusing. He offers extra credit so you're not completely screwed if you at least get a passing grade on his exams.
Absolutely love him! It's easy to get a good grade if you put the work in. Discussions are 750-1000 words about topics from the book. Offers great extra credit- only way to not get an A is if you did not try at all.
Patrick is really passionate about sociology and relates to his students a lot. He is really clear on what he wants and is a pretty easy grader. Gives out a couple big extra credit assignments that help a lot. Lectures could get pretty boring and tests are somewhat hard, but if you memorize all the definitions its not bad. Also he's really hot
Dr. Obrien is awesome! He comes off kind of strict, but hes accommodating when you have a legitimate issue. Offers 2 big extra credit opportunities, & gives a couple random points for participating in class discussions. Interesting lectures, a couple of documentaries, overall a good class with a dope teacher.
Prof. O'Brien was amazing. His lectures was interesting, he knows a lot about the subject and is very passionate of teaching it. I learned a lot. Four exams, a couple of written assignments and some in class discussions. Very helpful study guides. Read the book and take lecture notes, and you will pass the exams. And yes, he is super hot.
definitely get the textbook so you can understand the discussions. I took the class online but it wasn't too hard, just make sure you submit everything on time. there are also quizzes but they're really easy. you have to be willing to put in the work but it's a rewarding class
As long as you take good notes and do the assignments it'll be an easy A ! His lectures are also very interesting he definitely knows what he's talking about.
Dr. O'Brien is a well-meaning professor whose lectures are full of verve and wit. He teaches the class in a way that indicates he is well-versed in his field. However, his weak point is his tendency toward favoring certain ideologies over others. This bias becomes increasingly apparent as the course goes on and nuanced topics are discussed.
All assignments are online, you just have to go to class take notes on the lecture, and use them on the quizzes, finals, etc. There was only one extra credit assignment I recommend to do it even if you have a solid grade. I loved the subject taught but it was only graded by a few things so my grade wasn't the best considering that it is my major.
Favorite professor. Favorite class. His lectures are interesting and completely hooked me on the subject of sociology. He's funny and incredibly smart as well as open to questions and loves participation. We watched a couple cool documentaries in addition to his lectures. Exams are online and open note and book. I'm taking him again next semester.
Great professor, great at giving explanations, and did I mention easy on the eyes?! Doesn't take attendance, but none of his lecture notes are online, so if you're going to skip make sure you have somebody to give you the notes. All tests are online, none of them cumulative, not even the final. Easy pass. take good, clear notes and you're golden.
His online late-start course was pretty gruesome. Albeit not many assignments, the class is based 50% on weekly discussion posts which are at minimum 900 words. Compared to other 101 classes I've taken, this one expected much more than above and beyond work.
Dr. OBrien is an awesome professor. I took his online 101 and you have to put the work in with weekly quizzes and discussions but the readings and the lectures made me love soc. I took his 109 in person and his lectures are super interesting, you need to attend lecture for the notes (no attendance) but always worth it. Highly recommend.
Really learned a lot about our society from professor Obrien. His lectures are always entertaining and he really takes the time to answer your questions. His quizzes and exams are online with some in class group work. As long as you attend lecture and take good notes you should be fine. One of my favorite classes at SBCC.
Seriously though. Best teacher Ive ever had. Easy to talk to, down to earth, easy on the eyes. If you need 101 you should pick him for sure.
Amazing! Very smart man who is very passionate about sociology. All quizzes and tests are online and the final is not cumulative! Lectures are not mandatory but i suggest showing up as they are so interesting! He is always there to help, and yes he is good looking. Totally recommend this class!
Amazing. Took SOC 101 &109 with Patrick and learned so much. All quizzes and tests are online and all answers are from lectures and textbook! Lectures are very interesting and you learn a lot so I suggest showing up. Does not take attendance but go anyways just to look at him. Offers extra credit and definitely knows what he's talking about!
Professor O'Brien is a very good teacher. He is clearly passionate about Sociology and it shows in his lectures. The work given is relatively easy, but you need to show up to class to take notes or you will do poorly on the tests. This class will give you a good understanding of Sociology, as well as an easy A if you do the work.
Patrick is a great teacher! He knows what he's talking about and is very clear and understanding when delivering a new idea. The test were all on online and all the answers are in the lecture notes from class and the textbook so go to class! Over all an easy A if you go to class the view isn't bad either
O'Brien is one of the best professors iv ever had. His lectures are great and he makes them fun. The only problem i had was focusing in his class, He is a babe.
LOVED THIS CLASS! If you dont show up to lecture, you wont pass the quizzes and exams. If you dont read the material, again, you wont pass. His lectures are interesting and he keeps the mood light! If youre in school to barely do any work, no prof will be good, but out of my 4 classes this semester, this was by far the best! You rock Dr. O'Brien!
One of my favorite professors by far at SBCC! He is the BEST! Lectures are interesting; not mandatory-make sure you attend & take good notes, exams are based off lecture. He occasionally has random group activities for extra points. He has an extra credit paper mid-semester-do it! Take this professor-he's funny and not to mention hot lol
Just take a class with him and you'll understand! Patrick is so intelligent and really cares about what he is teaching! You will learn so much in his class (so definitely go to class) that will make you see the world in a whole new way!
Patrick is amazing! He doesn't take attendance but his lectures are interesting and in order to pass you need to attend. His lectures include slides with everything you need to know/write down. He doesn't believe in midterms or finals so there are a total of 4 unit exams that are online at home and he cancels class on exam days. I HIGHLY recommend!
you won't regret taking Patricks class, the best teacher
Patrick made me really enjoy taking SOC 101. Having a prof who is passionate really helps me (at least) stay engaged. The exams aren't cumulative, but they are lecture/reading heavy... make sure you take notes and do ALL of the readings!
Hes the best! He offers extra credit and easy points. Very educated and informational (PhD). His lectures are super fascinating and have relevance to whats going on in the world today. He is unbiased and as long as you take notes you can pass the class! Test are manageable, homework is not bad! Hes a great professor!
A genuinely nice guy. If you show up to class and listen to lecture you shouldnt have a problem. His tests are a little hard but he doesnt assign that much homework so you have time to study for them.
I took this class and I LOVED IT. I'm a Sociology major and everything he taught was so interesting. I really enjoyed his lectures. I have him next semester and I can't wait!
Loved this class! Professor O'Brien gives amazing lectures which are insightful and he is also funny making them more interesting. Even though attendance is not mandatory he sometimes gives assignments during lectures earning you points if you show up. Also has an extra credit paper by the end of the semester. Definitely take his class if you can!
Cool guy overall, not an overly difficult class and he really just wants you to participate. I thought his focus on his own textbook was annoying and he does give you a lot of assignments but they are more time consuming than difficult
Took Prof Obrien's online class and I learned a lot about our society. He's cool and helped me when I fell behind because you have to really manage the writing and your time for the discussions. His book was awesome and it relates to us as students. The discussions are most important for your grade so put in the work and you should have an A.
O'Brien is a great professor. Lectures are on point and he wants you to succeed in the class. We had to go online bc of corona but his quizzes and exams are already online so he made it less stressful. Exams are lecture heavy, three exams, and there is a big extra credit paper he saves to the end. Take his class.
Took OBriens class online. Due dates are very organized- long posts due every other monday and replies+quiz due the following friday. There is a bit of reading and video lectures but you have about a week before anything is due on the material. Overall, really enjoyed this class for its critical thinking.
I took both Soc 101 and Soc 109 with Professor OBrien and I loved it. His lectures are really interesting and hes a really nice guy. He gave an extra credit paper toward the end of the course and it really helped my grade. Exams are online so as long as you show up to lecture and do the assigned readings youll do great!
Professor O'Brien is the best! His lectures are hilarious which makes it really easy to follow along. His tests are kinda hard but if you look over your notes beforehand and listen to his lectures, you will do fine.
Best professor I've had at CC. Class is chill and Patrick is funny af. Show up, listen, take notes and you're good. The reading isn't too bad. The reading and online quizes took me 1.5 hours, but I'm dyslexic w/ ADD. He's easy to talk to, just don't waste his time. Online transition was fine. I wish I could take all my SOC classes w/ Patrick.
Professor O'Brien was such a refreshing teacher. From being online, it's so hard to stay up to date on assignments, but O'Brien's class is super straight forward. His class is also SO interesting and I had no issues being bored or felt the material was out of touch. 10/10 great class.
I am in my second class with Dr. Obrien and he is great! I switched my major to sociology because of his class! he uses his own book for a lot of the reading and is focused on substance use, emerging adulthood, and social problems. His grading style is very straightforward. If you do the work you will be fine. Do the extra credit paper!
TAKE THIS CLASS unless you are lazy. One discussion board and one quiz each week (3 attempts for quiz). Study for the tests. It is open book so I made a study guide with every single key term from the textbooks and got good grades. NEVER turn something in late or your grade will suffer. Lastly, DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! I enjoyed this class!
Dr. O'brien has always been my favorite sociology teacher. This was my first time taking him online and it was definitely harder than in person but he gives you a lot of time to complete assignments and he is a clear grader and gives extra credit. He is well respected as a professor. 10/10 would recommend. You won't be sorry.
There are seven 750 word posts throughout the semester, 5 quizzes and 2 exams. Follow the directions of the discussion posts and you should get an A as they are worth 50% of your grade. There is a 4 page extra credit paper at the end of the semester. Very nice guy, wants students to succeed.
Dr. OBriens online classes are organized and you know exactly how to complete them. He is clear on assignments and grading and wants you to learn and do well. You have to put in the work but I learned alot about our society. Wish it was in person for his live lectures. Highly recommend!! Take his classes.
O'Brien is awesome. The class is clearly laid out, there are never any surprises. You get two weeks to complete your work for the module. Provides a lot of information. 10/10 recommend.
Great class and great professor. Lots of interesting topics and easy-to-read material, and Dr. O'Brien usually posts a documentary for each topic as well. There is an extra credit paper where you can get a lot of points if you follow the rubric. He is clear about how he wants the assignments to be done but you have to turn them in on time.
While the class was well-organized and the pace was fine, I didn't feel like I had an actual live, human teacher. Everything was either graded automatically, by the computer, or he filled out a rubric and offered no feedback. I never got one single word of personalized feedback all semester.
Dr. O'Briens online class online is very organized and you know how to complete the class no problem. Lots of interesting recorded lectures, cool book and readings. I reached out to him and he always responded asap and gave me audio feedback on my discussion assignments. Highly recommend!!
Online class: super organized/interesting, lots of info on how to complete the class, clear directions. Don't be lazy, turn in assignments on time and reach out for help/feedback. Do the extra credit!! I reached out for help and he gives audio feedback super quick. Overall, awesome class and prof
We are lucky to have this professor. He's very dedicated to the subject, his own book is one of the course materials and he teaches sociology very well. Most of our work was doing readings and discussions, and if you take the time to understand the key terms and apply them to the prompt you will do a great job in the class. Engaging work!
He is a hard grader. Really rude, didn't help me and I didn't learn anything from his class. If someone tells you to take his class, don't do it. It's not worth. Gives so many writing assignments.
Professor O'Brien sets you up for success in this course by detailing all of his expectations on Canvas. There are two textbooks used in the class very heavily, as well as many supplemental texts and films for each module. There are two exams for this course and several quizzes on the material. Communicates reminders and updates regularly.
Prof O'Brien's class was super organized and interesting. There were so many great topics and resources. I learned a lot and my writing improved. He was always understanding and gives great feedback if you reach out which I highly recommend. Great Prof!
Dr. O'brien's class was organized, clear and insightful. He was always accommodating and he went above and beyond to make the class challenging but relevant. If you put the work in you will learn so much and think in new ways. I am so happy I took this class!
Loved this class. Discussions worth 50% of our grade. There was one every other week for each module. Had to be over 750 words with citations but if you read and watched the lectures everyday it was easy. 2 exams worth 20% each and quizzes every other week which were worth 10%. And an extra credit paper at the end which was so amazing. Take it!!
I took the class online, so had a different experience than in person learners. I don't like the book and typically find that I enjoy classes less when the teacher uses their own book. I didn't find the class as useful as I hoped. The professor was responsive by email, but not helpful. I'm switching majors because I did not like his classes.
This class really sparked my interest and Im glad I took it. Every module has intresting lectures and usually a film. Prof Obrien shows you how to complete the class on day 1 and he always gave me more feedback when i asked. Lots of writing, but very doable. Great class.
Prof. O'Brien's class is amazing and inspired me to change my major to sociology. Although there is a lot of reading it is very interesting. I took this class late start and there was a quiz and reflection each week. The reflections can be a lot, but the prompts are fun! I highly recommend this class!
Fun class with really interesting topics and whatnot. I generally hate writing but I honestly had fun with the discussion topics. Also some really cool documentaries. I took it in person but due to some difficulties with covid and other things it kind of ended up being online. I feel like the online and in person bits are pretty similar.
Class made no sense, solely 700 word responses to different subjects every week. I don't feel like I learned anything, just looked up things for answers.
Dr. O'Brien's Intro to sociology class was one of the best and most interesting classes I have taken. He is a super cool prof and you can tell he really cares about what he does. Do the work and you will get a lot out of his class. We need more teachers like him in the world.
Professor O'Brien is excellent. I really enjoyed taking his class. Trust me, you won't regret taking one of his classes! He is one of the best professors that I have had during my time at SBCC.
One of the best classes and professors. He is organized, communicates with students. Not a lot of homework, he is an easy grader but is super focused on the rubric. Class is easy to follow and it's all laid out perfectly. Professor is clear and really explains every topic, the subject matter is easy and pretty simple. Take this class
Great intro class, lectures were engaging and helped make more sense of the readings. Very self-paced, and he is lenient with late work. He is extremely knowledgeable about sociology and I felt that he was a good teacher as well. The reading can be heavy at times, but I found that it was not always necessary for the weekly discussion posts.
Great professor, lectures are interesting, discussion posts every other week, same with quizzes.
Organized and expectations were clearly communicated. The material was engaging and interesting, and I felt both challenged and supported. I enjoyed his teaching style. Even through the online format, I could tell that he is passionate about what he does and cares about our success as students and I greatly appreciated it.
Mr.O'Brien is an amazing public speaker. His ability to keep the audiences attention and make his lectures interesting is amazing. I would be upset if I had to miss his lecture. His homework is straight forward and consistent which is nice when you have other classes. Overall, one of the best teachers I have had at SBCC.
Textbook is not necessary but very useful. He only has very long discussion posts but every two weeks along with a 20 questions quiz. Overall, great class to take whether this is required for your major or not.
This has become my most favorite class I have ever taken. He gives the best lectures and is very passionate about sociology. We had bi-weekly discussion posts (that seem scary at first) but ended up being an assignment I looked forward to, and he always responded with great feedback. I will miss this class and would recommend it to ANYONE!!
Patrick O'Brien was amazing! He got brought in to take over my Sociology 101 course and his lectures were great and got me excited about the subject! Coursework wasn't too difficult and he's a really cool guy. Definitely take him if you can!!!
Prof. O'Brien is probably the best prof. I have ever had, he is an inspiration to me. I major in Soc now and actually became excited to do the homework. Long discussions due every ten days but if you follow the directions (CITE SOURCES) you will succeed. He gives amazing, kind feedback as well. He's funny and wants you to succeed. Also... hot.
Awesome lectures and professor, easy weekly homework just follow the directions and you will get a good grade. good GE class, everyone should take this class
HOT!!!!
Prof O'Brien is a great professor! I always appreciated his feedback and I loved attending his lectures. This has been one of my favorite classes I have ever taken. If you do the work and readings and come to class, you will do good. I recommend his classes to everyone.
Professor O'Brien is very knowledgeable and passionate about sociology. Awesome lecturer and pretty to look at. The work load is very manageable with only 2 essays and a quiz every other week. While attendance is not required, activities will be completed in class for credit. Highly recommend this class.
I loved this class and it was not too hard. Daddy Obrien was a amazing professor and kept the class interesting. I would highly recommend this class.
Great class. Love the man. Sexy, hot and great lectures ;) I love being apart of a society that Daddy P is also in.
Loved Dr. O'Brien. His class was easy enough. A 800 word discussion post every week was the only really assignments we had. His lectures are engaging and easy to follow. Honestly, show up, do the word, and you'll get an A.
Professor O'Brien's class is the reason I developed a passion for sociology. His class was so well done and his passion was infectious. He fostered a great learning environment and his lectures were so interesting. I highly recommend his classes for anyone interested in thinking critically about our society. Thank you Prof O'Brien!
I took Soc 101 and 109 from Dr. O'Brien online and I enjoyed them both equally as a sociology major. I have so much gratitude for Dr. O'Brien for his feedback and the interesting class material he provides. I highly recommend his classes to everyone.
Professor O'Brien's class was amazing! 7 interesting papers, 14 quizzes, follow directions (cite) and you will do great. I really enjoyed his class and I learned so much. This was my first introduction to sociology and his class allowed me to look at our world through a whole new lens. This prof makes a difference in the world of education.
Dr. O'Brien is well spoken and his lectures were well thought out. I took the hybrid class and the online portion was very well organized and structured. Workload is fair and he leaves kind feedback. The class challenged me but I genuinely enjoyed learning every week. I highly recommend!
Amazing Professor. His lectures were very interesting and always involved good communication. Class is mandatory because you need to take in class notes for the every other week 700 word discussion post. No mid term or final in O'Brien class.
Professor O'Brien's SOC101 class is a must-take. The lectures are engaging, and the weekly assignments, while challenging, really solidify the course material. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for preparing for quizzes and discussions. Overall, a rewarding class that I'd highly recommend.
Hes such a good teacher. You can tell he loves what he is teaching. This class is super easy too. Attendance isnt mandatory but he does in class activities for points some times. Hes super funny especially if you get a talkative class. Very easy to engage and grades pretty easily. Try to get him for your classes.
THE BEST THE BEST. He is so understanding and chill. Lectures are fun and there isn't too much work. He makes sure to keep class interesting and fun, it was by far my favorite class I've ever taken.
Lectures were interesting and fun. The work consists of weekly discussions, a weekly Canvas quiz, and another quiz on an external website. It took me about two hours a week to do this. If you dedicate time and attention to the class and assignments, you will learn a lot and achieve success. But be prepared to put in a little extra effort.
Makes lectures interesting. I've taken a couple of classes with him and he's an amazing and chill professor. From what I've taken, he doesn't do midterms/ finals, just discussions with somewhat strict guidelines. Overall, pretty easy class. Pretty handsome professor. Overall, highly recommend taking classes with him.
Firstly, 70% of his class is based on the discussions which isn't bad until he is really picky about what he wants in those posts. Personally, this was more a "how to research" instead of a "intro to soc" class which is not what I signed up for. This felt more of a "boss to coworker" vs a "teacher to student" type of class. Don't recommend.
I took two classes with Dr. O'Brien and it's what inspired me to change my major and sparked my love for sociology. Follow his writing directions and cite the book and lecture. Fair grader and workload. Always super interesting lectures. His classes taught me exponentially more than I could have imagined and I thank him for that.
Prof O'Brien is in a class of his own. He makes class interesting and fun and I appreciated all his current resources and his thoughtful comments. He made us feel heard and valued our input. Not all teachers can teach, he does it beautifully. Homework every week can be challenging, but totally fair. Take his classes!
i've taken two classes by prof. o'brien, he is very charismatic and passionate! his classes seem to have the same formula of weekly forum responses of 700 wds, they're not difficult but slightly time consuming. he does assign a lot of reading and online quizzes each week but its so worth it for no tests or final/midterm!!! love him!
Took 101 and 109 over summer and loved it so much. his content is relevant and interesting but there was tons of reading and writing 1200+ word discussion posts weekly. the lectures were great and i learned a lot. hope to take more of his classes 10/10
Took online over the summer, 1 long discussion post + 3 replies a week as well as 2 quizzes. Interesting material and easy grader.
SEXY ASFFFF TAKE ANY CLASS U CAN FROM HIM
Prof O'Brien was the best ever. He is so funny, cares about his students, and always makes class fun and interesting. The class is lecture heavy but he makes the material easy to understand. The workload is very manageable as well and he gives good feedback. 100% recommend this class and would take again!!!
Prof O'Brien's class had a huge impact on me. Sociology has became my favorite subject. Everything we learned fascinated me and I had know idea how much I would be into sociology when I was choosing my classes. His enthusiasm and passion for the subject has been an inspiration to me and motivates me to do well in all of my classes. Excellent Prof!
Easily the best professor I've ever had. He is an absolutely amazing lecturer. I have ADHD and often struggle to pay attention in lectures, but this course was no issue whatsoever because he made the class so interesting. I wish he taught more different courses so I could take them! Grades are based on long-ish discussion posts and quizzes.
Never was a big sociology fan until this class. Highly recommend this professor. Do the work, the reading, and show up. Fascinating lectures and he's happy to talk to you about even weirder sociology subjects. Awesome.
