He's great at lecturing and making things interesting but is very difficult when it comes test times. He doesn't review you for the tests very well. Overall a pretty good teacher, but be ready to need to study to pass.
Great! I hate history, and I really feel like I left his class learning something. He gives the essays that are going to be on his tests, and even goes over them for ou when you are done with the section it pertains to. Very helpful!! No homework, just one 8-10 page paper due a little more then half way through semester!
Great instructor and wonderful lectures. Took class during the summer. I learned so much in a short peroiod of time. Wish a would have taken course during regular term.
Good teacher and great lectures just be ready to write alot, through the whole class period. He gives an outline on the board of what your going to be tested on. You also have essay questions on the test which hell give you 5 questions before the test to study but only 4 questions will be on the test so be sure to study 2! 1 paper due 8 pages
HUGE JERK thats the only way I can explain it. Also has really lame humor and is horrible. He makes people feel dumb and thinks that he is better then people. Def picks favorites. dont take his class unless your forced to.
If you want to learn interesting facts about American History he is the teacher to take. Take notes - study and you will do great!
He can be pretty rude to people; he means well and is only trying to be funny, but he still comes off as rude. He also seems to have this kind of superiority complex that is hard to explain(especially in less than 350 chrctrs). Lectures were good, test reviews sucked, I don't think he graded essays fairly.Overall hes OK but I recommend someone else.
Has a very dry sense of humor and can be a total jerk to the slackers. I thought he was an awesome teacher who gave a challenge. Lectures were interesting, but then again I like history. He definitely does not make the class super easy, but as long as you keep up it's not too hard to pass with an A.
I've taken Richards for US 1&2, EUH 1&2, and African American Hitsory... A's in all of them. This guy is awesome, You learn a lot, and he adds personality to his class. Don't show up and sleep it pisses him off, however it was funny watching him go off on the losers that slacked. If you fail one of his tests you should drop out of college.
Mr. Richards is human and he cares about teaching. His only requirements are: show up on time, participate in the lectures, pay attention, and ask questions. I was relieved to finally have a professor who had control of his class and did not let a few slackers disrupt to flow of learning. He's fair and is always available for assistance.
AWESOME TEACHER! PICK A GOOD PAPER TOPIC HE LIKES THAT. HE'S FROM JERSEY COME ON! JUST GET THE PAPER DONE AND STUDY FOR THE ESSAY TOPIC. THIS GUY WILL HELP IF NEED BE. IT'S A FAIRLY EASY CLASS ALTHOUGH HE THINKS OTHERWISE.DON'T SLEEP IN THE CLASS!HE WILL SEE THRU EVERYBODY'S B.S.THERE IS LIL HOMEWORK/STRESS.A/C WOULD BE FANTASTIC! A QUALITY MR.
I HONESTLY CAN SAY I LUV THIS TEACHER IF I NEEDED MORE SOCIAL SCI CREDITS I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN I LEARNED SO MUCH AND HE EXPLAINS IT IN A WAY THAT YOU CANT FORGET IT.
subject is a lil dry but he makes it more interesting with his humor and sarcasm. Fun class overall.
Mr. Richards is probably one of the best history teachers teaching, plus he's mad funny. 3 tests, 1 8 to 10 page research paper. This is how college classes should be. He brings energy to the whole room, if u take any history take his classes, you'll actually learn something.
great teacher, and keeps the class entertained. you pick your own research topic for the paper, and prepares you for the test. any history class with him is the best.
Not being **** but if you are female you are probable going to benefit more in this Class. all of those positive comments about it being easy, I guarantee were %100 female. If you don't do the big report then you will fail. Straight forward
You can't fail this class unless your a lazy bum. You choose the research report, which is the most important grade in the class, and you need to actually study for test. He is very helpful and hilarious! Taking his class next semester
Good class.
Make sure you DO the research paper. Pick a topic you enjoy, write the 9 pages, cite your sources and format it correctly. If you do that, you will get an A. Oh yeah, pay attention when he does the test review. You can't fail unless you try.
Great teacher! Really loves history! Make sure you do the research papers its the biggest portion of the grade! Participate when he does the test reviews he likes that!!
This was an awesome class. He makes it fun, and easy to follow. Take good notes, speak up,write your research paper, and NO CELLPHONES in class.
Good class. Take GREAT notes and don't miss class because he covers A LOT of material each class. Nothing but lectures. Hardest part is that there are only 4 grades in course; 3 tests and a research paper. enjoyed it!
Great Professor, I enjoyed having class with him. He's always energetic and knows how to keep you interested in the topic. Just make sure you speak up in class; he really likes when students get involved (however, RAISE YOUR HAND AND DO NOT CUT HIM OFF WHEN HE'S TALKING...he hates that)
AMAZING class. He keeps the class entertained and knows how to make you laugh. He LOVES when students answer and get involved but just make sure you don't interrupt him because it really irritates him. Oh and don't text, you think he may not notice but he does. Overall, great class and to be honest, he's pretty good looking too
Not that great of a class! I wouldn't recommend this teacher to anyone unless you have no other choice. He was pretty rude and always tried to be funny but really wasn't.
Mr. Richards is a great teacher. I don't care what no one says. He gives you 3 months to write a 8-10 page paper, Gordon Rule; only 3 tests..it's your own fault if you don't do it. He may seem like he is rude, but it's his class; we aren't kids. If you say something stupid he'll do the same right back, which is legit. Richards for the real.
So this class was not the best.I would not take it unless you absolutly have to. You must pay close attention to the lectures and have good note taking skills. Also be prepared to write a 10 page paper.
I hated his class and will not take any of his classes again but if you take good notes and study early for the exams you will not fail. There are 3 exams and a big paper of 8-10pgs. The paper is long and he is kindof strict on grading, you have to at least work on it for 2 weeks to get a good grade on it.
Study terms, do your paper, pay attention, attend class, no cell phones! Funny guy.
Amazing! I took this course over summer, and this is the first instructor that has made history genuinely interesting for me. He's really funny, always has the class laughing, and he is really willing to help you. I definitely recommend him.
I had absolutely no interest in this class going into it. I have always hated history, but Mr. Richards is fantastic. He is the only one that has ever been able to make history interesting for me. His tests are easy if you pay any attention at all, but there is a 8-10 page research paper due mid-semester. Just make sure not to put it off.
Awesome teacher! just make sure to turn in your research paper and take notes and you will receive a good grade.
great teacher. fun to be around. just dont eat or use technology in class. and learn Chicago style citation
I beg anyone in need of a history to avoid this guy. He tries very hard to be funny more so than helpful. Not only that but his ten paper is insane, he grades like a com teacher so come prepared. His class ofcourse is passable but I would only recommend as a last resort.
I took this class for the Summer Mini Semester and loved it, he is a funny guy and loves History.I just reccomend that you don't interrupt him or constantly leave the room and be on time and do what he asks...the 8 page paper is not that hard i sat down and did it no rough draft of any kind and got an A.I like Chicago Style better than any other.
MR.RICHARDS IS LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN A REALLY GOOD LED ZEPPELIN ALBUM AND A BAD RASH THAT NEVER GOES AWAY, IN GOOD WAY IF THERE WAS ONE. OVERALL MY FAVORITE TEACHER! STUGATZ!
Mr. Richards is great! He has an awesome sense of humor and very lively. Even if you aren't interested in history, you will never have a boring class. He makes it interactive and asks questions to make sure you're following and understand what's going on. Highly recommend!
Mr. Richards was a fantastic teacher, who has a real interest in history. His lectures were always interesting. The 8 page paper is not bad as long as you take the time to do it.
Definitely a teacher who is interested in history! He makes history very interesting, and connects everything seamlessly. There is an 8 page Chicago style paper to do, on a topic that you pick which is between a time frame and it has to be a narrow topic, not broad. 3 tests based on lectures, each with an essay he prepares you for well.
Mr. Richards is a very interesting who obviously has a passion for history, however, if you're dual enrolled (like I am) I'd suggest picking an easy topic for your 8-10 page paper because you wont get much help. He is funny and interesting though. However, he's a harsh grader and make sure you know how cite in Chicago Style before taking his class.
Mr. Richards makes class fun and interesting, if you hate history he is a great teacher to take. His tests are easy if you listen to the questions he asks in the beginning of each class. He is there to help you any time. Easy class if you work hard.
Awesome teacher. Awesome class. Pay close attention, take good notes, and participate in class. He's always in the library if you need help. Don't buy the textbook, he doesn't use it. Tests are easy if you study and pay attention to his quick reviews at the beginning of class. 8-10 page paper is graded harshly so make sure to work on that. A++
There is no history professor like Mr. Richards. I had very little interest in history before taking his class, and was astonished by how fascinating his lectures were. This is not an "Easy A" class. He will give you what you earned and nothing more. Pay attention and take good notes. Regarding essays: details, details, details.
Lectures can be dry, but overall he is a good/funny professor. I really learned a lot from the required readings (mini essays are due for each reading). He is a bit too sarcastic at times, but overall he loves his students. 2 exams we had were multiple choice and very easy. Good class.
I took Mr. Richards in the summer for the 6-week course and I absolutely loved it. I'm a huge history buff and he made it so interesting and kept things real. The research paper he assigns he makes it very clear what he wants and tells you what to do to get an A. All you need to do is follow his directions and you'll pass easily :)
Mr. Richards is a down-to-earth kinda guy. He does a good job on the lectures, and makes them interesting. I recommend you take good notes (mostly just what he writes on the board). easy to stay engaged if you make the effort. He'll point out important information that will show up on the test. The class atmosphere is fun and enjoyable. He cares!!!
He is the best history teacher I have ever had. He keeps the class interesting with his classic jokes and stories and he makes learning fun. However he is a harsh grader. Make sure you follow all the directions on your research paper and critical thinking paper. If you don't follow those rules to a tee you will get an F, and he won't even read it.
Awesome guy who really gives you a chance to connect with history and find meaning in it besides the normal boring stuff. There is a mandatory research paper on whatever you choose which is heavily what your grade rests on. If you come to class and do fine on the paper, you will be fine because his tests are easy.
Mr. Richards is a great teacher! He gives amazing lectures so be sure to make good notes. His tests are fairly easy and consist of multiple choice questions and a 23 paragraph essay. He assigns a 7-8 page paper on your choice of topic at the beginning of the semester so get working on it! It counts for a lot of your grade!
Mr. Richards has a great sense of humor and you can tell he loves what he does. His lectures can feel long sometimes, but you better have payed attention when it comes to test time. He has a mandatory 8-10 page paper. Don't procrastinate on it.
Not only does this professor grade hard he only gives three test and one long research paper and no class work. Only 4 grades in his whole class if you fail one your basically failing his whole class
Mr. Richards is an effective teacher, and teaches well by having interesting lectures. His grading is problematic for some. The paper has a lot of weight and there are three exams that are tricky because of choices given. Don't challenge him, he doesn't like that. He is a leftist and might not have thorough understanding of religious doctrines.
Really funny lectures, seems passionate about history. However, a majority of the grade relies on the final paper and a few tests.
Ive taken his class twice. He lectures every class so be ready to write down everything he says bc the only grades are 3 tests and one big research paper. If youre not a good test taker, you might want to consider another professor. He is hilarious and the lectures are never boring. Hes very easy to work with and will help whenever you need it.
Fantastic teacher. Hard to take notes because you actually want to listen to his lectures. He does not grade you like a com teacher, Tests are best heavily on what he talks about. It makes the test easy and no surprises.
It's been a while since i took two classes with him back to back. Pay attention to his lectures and take good notes. Also be willing to talk and participate in the lectures, and crack a joke or two. Doesn't grade too hard but he only has a few tests and a final paper so make sure you don't skip too much cause all the tests are all based on lectures
Would not recommend, jokes around too much and is ALWAYS sarcastic regarding questions or comments.. OH and good luck if you have to use the restroom.
Professor Richards is one of the professors I've had that I'll look back on as having been an influence on my life. He challenges you to think about what you believe and leaves behind accepted myths of history. On the very first day I felt myself academically challenged to become a better person. While we didn't always agree I appreciate his work.
Professor Richards is really clear in his lectures. He is really funny and makes lectures interesting. I suggest taking good notes and studying them for the tests. There was one 7-8 page paper. There were three tests with multiple choice questions and an essay.
He give a lot of information in the lecture that you cant find in the book. The test included about 15-20 questions and and essay topic he will give you; so do not miss the prep for the test. He will tell you what he wants included in the essay and if you dont points will be taken off. Horrible at putting grades and keeping canvas updated.
Mr. Richard is one of the best history teachers I took. I have learned a lot of new things that I didn't know. He is very funny. Gives wonderful lectures and includes his experience from the past. I would defiantly take his class again just to keep learning because I love history. Also, I would recommend taking this class with him.
He is one of the funniest teachers on campus. Prepare for 4 big tests and 1 big essay and those 5 assignments are your grade. Easy A
Theres a research paper and had plenty of citations, I got an f for no citations.
Enjoyed his class very much. 3 EASY exams with information straight from the lectures, so take notes because they're not online! One 7 page research paper. Make sure you study because you only have 5 graded assignments (one is attendance)
The assignments for this class: 3 exams, attendance, & a research paper. This class is SIMPLE but not easy. We had ONE ec opportunity for the whole semester & hes a tough grader! Hes not responsive, best way to contact him is at his office not through email. He expects you to remember everything from his lectures so take good notes
classawesome lecture. 3 tests. one 7page research paper. TAKE NOTES!!!!! Mr. Richards is one of the best teachers I've had and offers to help so much. let him. Write the paper 2 weeks before it's due. He's the first to make history and politics interesting and relevant in my life. Cares about all students whether you're his student or not. Iconic.
Overall he is a really good teacher but for the essay response he is not as clear on what he wants.
MAKE SURE TO TAKE NOTES, ALWAYS. Hes very lecture heavy but is great at lecturing & makes class interesting. Dont be late, miss class, use phone nor leave the classroom often, youll get on his bad side. However, participate and avoid the other stuff and he will probably even help you. Tests are quite easy (15-20 questions, 1 essay)
You take ALOT of notes for a 10 question exam no quizzes, so if you do bad on the exams you will not pass. It doesnt make sense to give 10 page notes just for a 10 question exam! And you have you write a 7 page research paper and he will fail you !! No one got above a C on that paper . IF YOU DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA THEN RICHARDS IS THE WAY TO GO
I took Richards for both core AMH courses a few years ago and he was one of the most personable professors I've ever had. He genuinely wants to help you succeed. I do suggest writing the essay for the exam beforehand (he'll give you the prompt word for word the class or two before) and memorizing it so you don't have to write it on the spot.
Mr. Richards made history come alive and be more relevant and comprehensive than I'd ever experienced from a history class. He was very clear in giving both sides of every story, and shared history from the eyes of minorities and "unimportant" people. He taught me more about politics than my ANG teacher, and Richards educated me well for 2020.
Usually, a weekly discussion consisting of your response and two replies (I never got a full 10/10 on discussion). Provided lecture notes to read and pull from. Three exams are pulled from bolded, underlined, and highlighted notes. About a 6 pg. research paper on a historical monument. Didn't provide too much feedback but there was some.
Professor Richards did not require use of the textbook, and rather provided his own lecture notes. The notes were very disorganized, and there were often times a disconnect between each new topic. Most times, the 10-question quizzes were not on the information provided in the notes and the class did not cultivate my knowledge of U.S. history.
Professor Richards only graded assignments halfway through the semester then one more time again at the very end with absolutely zero feedback on anything that was completed. A full grade was never given especially on discussions. The grading seems very erratic. Research paper was given a 50% no feedback and dropped my grade to nearly not passing.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I dont understand his high rating. Throughout the entire year, he did not respond to a single email from any students. He didnt grade a single assignment until halfway through the year, and gave bad grades for unknown reasons, giving me no time to fix my errors. Most untrustworthy and careless professor Ive ever met.
Exams are straight forward, as long as you write what he writes and memorize that information you'll be fine. Now when it comes to grading papers I'd consider taking a different teacher. He is unreasonably harsh with grading papers and doesn't provide proper feedback in order to justify his decisions. Also make an effort to participate each lecture
Took him in early 2020 when online class was mandatory. An extremely tough grader that gave very vague feedback on how to improve. Stick to his lectures because if you dare do further research and mention something he isn't currently teaching you will get penalized. Rarely accessible. Prefers brief explanations over long, detailed ones.
Fine. Textbook, but I never used it. He wants you to write everything on exams exactly as he says it during lecture (TAKE NOTES). Reading the textbook will probably hurt you more than help you. Grading criteria was not clear for the paper. I got a good grade, but felt lost the entire time writing it. No homework. Three exams, one 4 page paper.
Hes a really good teacher! His lectures are entertaining and Im taking his class again this semester. He will pick on you if you dont stay focused but it wasnt an issue for me.
The professor to take if you want to have an enjoyable class while learning a lot at the same time. His grade consists of 4 tests, a paper, and participation/attendance. If you pay attention to his lectures the class is easy. No need for the textbook or much independent work outside of class outside of studying your notes and writing the paper.
Mr. Richards is a great History professor to take if you want your humanities credit. Your grade is largely dependent on the 1 research paper, annotated bibliography, and 3 exams. If you do the work, study hard, you'll get a good grade.
One research paper and multiple exams. No homework. Study, pay attention, you will do well. I did pretty bad on tests (mostly Cs) but did really well on my paper so it averaged out. Entertaining, never bored when listening to lecture.
Only grades were 4 quizzes, questions were directly from notes, and one 5 page research paper, double spaced with Chicago citation. Easy class, will be taking another one of his classes next semester.
There were three tests and one research paper. If you pay attention, don't miss the deadlines, and maybe study a little, you'll pass the class. All of the lectures are available on Canvas. He was accessible out of class and was very patient with me. I never felt like I was bothering him. He also does a lot of dark humor jokes haha.
He doesn't assign any homework which is really nice, just one big research paper in the middle of the semester. Most of his classes consisted of him giving lectures so as long as you pay attention and participate you should be good. If you interact with him he'll like you too. It's easy to come to him for questions and he is helpful.
Professor Richards makes everything easy to understand. He gives examples of things and explains them in detail. He also interacts with the whole class and makes it a fun upbeat lecture every time.
I'm going back and rating professors I recall from Eastern Florida, and Richards is one of the few I'm taking the time to write a review for. He made history come alive, and I enjoyed every moment of his classes. Do your work, study, and you'll do fine. If he makes a mistake on a quiz, tell him about it, and he'll fix it. He's fair, and effective.
He is an okay teacher when it comes to grading and teaching, but he can be a bit rude and call out students in the middle of class as this happened to one of my friends out of nowhere for constantly blinking. A similar situation happened to me when I kept leaving the classroom despite having severe allergies. I took him last semester.
Mr. Richards is very knowledgeable. His humor and examples make the material easy to connect with, and by the end of each lecture, I was confident in what was going on. I typically dislike history, but his class kept my attention, and I retained the info well. Tests are easy if you pay attention, take notes, and study. I highly recommend him!
Very fun and good professor. As long as you pay attention during lecture and take notes the class is easy.
The only thing that I didn't enjoy about his class was the way that he called people out. He would call you for basically anything whether it was eye contact, staring off, etc. It made me not want to even look up from my notes half the time because at any moment he could call on you, and it wouldn't be very nice.
I took his AMH 2020 class on campus and he's the best teacher I've ever had. There's no homework, just a 6-page essay (it was on a topic of our choice) and 4 exams. The exams probably had 30 questions each. Be prepared to take notes!! If you won't use a computer, record the lecture and take notes later. I got a C+ because I'm bad at tests.
I took him for both AMH2010 and AMH2020. Great professor with lots of jokes as others have stated. Gives his lectures effectively so that the students understand the history. Participation is key in his class. Give a unique and thorough critical analysis for a good grade on the final essay. His test questions are worded EXACTLY from his lectures.
Mr. Richards was a good teacher and he had great lectures. In his class there are 5 assignments throughout the whole semester. You need to have a good studying strategy because his tests can be tough if you do not know the material well. Attendance is mandatory, but this is the first history class that has kept my attention the whole time.
He was quite funny. I enjoyed going to his class. The only thing to be wary of is the final paper. It is a tough rubric and based on the topics he allows, it's extremely hard to make it non-biographical. That is why I got a C. Though if you go to his classes, you'll do well. Nice guy.
He is a very good person, and his lecture was delightful; however, he didn't provide us with the online book code, despite us having paid for it. He graded only on five things: annotated bibliography, research paper (six full pages, excluding cover and works cited), Exam 1-3 , with no extra credits. Therefore, you need to score 90+ in all of them.
Mr.Richards is a great teacher. No homework. Lectures were 4 hours but he is so passionate and clearly loves his job that time flies. You learn so much even if History does not typically interest you! He is one of few that not only care that you pass his class, but about your full academic success in your college career. Is always willing to help!
He's really funny, and he teaches extremely well. Make sure to focus on his lectures and don't use your phone; he's very serious about phone usage during lectures
The professor was okay, it shows that he cares for students. But his tests were hard 30 questions, even if you studied for it. The research paper is 6 full text. He also grades that very harshly. If you really like history, take it. But if you don't then, take it with your own risk or take it with a different professor.
Excellent if you already enjoy history. 3 tests with 30 questions, take super good notes. Had an 8-page research paper with 6 full pages of text, make sure to keep everything understandable and have a good critical analysis. Good teacher overall though! Harsh around the edges, but cares for students.
Mr. Richards has officially made me like History!! This class was fun, engaging, and HE IS HILARIOUS! As long as you show up to class and follow his lectures you will pass! He tells you what will be on the exam. Your grade is on 3 Exams, An annotated Bibliography, and a 6 page research paper. Responds to emails quickly and will work with you.
