Mr. Sweetman is awesome. Study like crazy for the tests, and be ready to do some hard-core pushups and crunches -- I'm not kidding, he makes you. If you want to learn to act, it's great. He's funny, and very encouraging, which is nice when you're nervous to perform in front of a class.
Awesome guy & teacher.he gives you exactly what will be given on the tests & he'll give you the questions and answers.vey enthusiastic and encouraging.the first time up on stage its nerve wrecking but after that he makes you feel so comfortable.nice guy and highly recommended.he gives extra credit
he was a fun teacher. hemade class fun and was very enthusiastic. always in a good mood.
At first he came off as a bit... well, demanding. However, as class goes on you become accustomed to what is expected of you and find out that he's a really down-to-earth guy who just wants you to do the best you can. Be prepared to act off-book... those points count big! :) Good teacher, cool guy.
Good teacher. reminds me of jim carrey from cable guy

He's a really interesting guy. Some of his methods are little strange, but he really gets you to open up and see things in a new light. I recommend that everyone take him!
He's awesome... class is fun and easy, take it if it will count for anything!!
I love P.Sweetman! He is always full of positive energy, and makes the class very entertaining! If you don't mind acting in front of others...this is the class and teacher for you!
Mr.Sweetman is a great teacher! Public Speaking is not a class that most people look forward to but he makes it fun and actually helps decrease the stress level by having you do random "speech blitzes" where you have to get up in front of the class and speak for 30 seconds or so.
Mr. Sweetman is a great teacher. Very helpful and makes public speaking seem much less intimidating. I hate public speaking and never looked forward to this class but still got an A!
An acting class was not my idea of fun but Patrick is very nice, has a great sense of humor & will give you encouragement & feedback. Participate in class. Attend class. Put a little effort into it & you'll get an A.
Wonderful professor!! Best to take his class during the summer, smaller, less people, and he doesn't require you to write a paper. Don't be intimidated, just have fun, and make sure you write in your notebooks! The final performance really isn't that bad, and I have always been afraid of being in front of a crowd. TAKE HIM!
This class is so easy. Go to class when other people are speaking, he ALWAYS takes role those days.
great professor. Made public speaking fun and easy.
Sweetman is an awesome professor. He makes the plays interesting and really explains everything. If you go to class (which is not mandatory) and pay attention you will make an A-no problem :)
great teacher. a lot of fun. easy A if you always go and know your lines.
Great guy. he's pretty funny and really enthusiastic about what he does. sometimes he gets so excited about what he's talking about he gets stuck for a moment on a word. class is easy and so are the tests if you just go to class and take notes.
Very Enthusiastic Teacher. Knows his stuff and is very helpful. Go to class and take notes, his tests are word-for-word from class. Easy A if you attend class.
I love this class. I hate public speaking put Professor Sweetman makes it fun.
good teacher
This class was SO AWESOME. He is funny and makes everything really interesting!
If you go to every class, you won't have to read a single play. The tests are easy and fair and he is really funny in class too. He keeps it interesting. Take him if you have to take this class!
I was terrified of public speaking. But he made it not scary at all and now I love public speaking. You do homework a lot, but it helps your grade out! Prepare for your speeches and make sure they are in the time frame, but overall an easy teacher.
The class is easy but you still have to work
Ok, this guy is really nice, but he is kinda ridiculous. Not going to lie, I am a bit upset that his class ruined my straight A's, but the thing is his grading is kinda messed up. Ok, he says remember dates, not one on the test, ok...I put Satan as an answer, no it's Lucifer. He may be nice and funny but that doesn't make a competent professor. >.>
His class is so FUN! He makes jokes and is like a kid. However, his exams are hard and he is picky over names. He uses powerspoints during class so just copy down everything he puts up. Sometimes when he is running behind schedule he will skip sections of the plays but they will STILL BE ON THE TEST! Take notes and you dont have to read the plays!!
I really enjoyed this class. Sweetman played a large role as to why I liked it so much. He really knows what he is talking about and shows enthusiasm when teaching. The class is very interactive and fun. I would recommend taking him.
Good teacher is you need an art credit, I'd recommend it. Just write down everything in the powerpoint slides, I really didn't have to actually read any of the plays and he tells you what is on the tests.
super cool teacher straight to the point plus FUN. I took intro to performance and loved it. How can you fail when he gives you the answers and extra credit
sweetman is the bomb!! he is absolutely hysterical, he likes to have a good time in class but he still gets stuff done. test are easy he tells you the answers the class before. I would definitely take him agian. And its an easy fine art credit!
Intro to Theatre class is very easy with Sweetman. Attendance does matter, but all you do is lecture the whole time. He makes it fun though. He is crazy and helpful and easy! So I would take his class. He wants everyone to do awesome! Gives points for having a play ticket. Take Sweetman!
I was excited to take this class but the prof was so pompous and full of himself that it was hard to take.
If you need another fine arts then take this class! He is so easy its ridiculous. Lots of notes but he's funny so its not bad. And he tells you everything thats going to be on the test. So just study! The only downfall is that you can't miss more than 3 classes but other than that its an EASY A!
I was unpleasantly surprised to find out we were only studying the history of theatre and not doing anything interactive, BUT he makes the class more entertaining and explains the material well. I barely used the book because his Powerpoints are pretty good.
Prof Sweetman is a funny professor, makes theatre interesting, can be a bit vague with his lectures, but overall would recommend him. He wants you to do well in his class and is willing to help you get an A. Just go to class and take decent notes and you'll be fine.
Very easy class to take you hardly ever need to be in class to get a great grade. He post all the notes on blackboard. The quizes were online w/ multiple chances to retake them to get an A. And there are millions of ways to get extra credit.
Sweetman has an interesting, vibrant personality. His class isn't as easy as people make it seem, but it is still pretty effortless. Come to class though because he doesnt post the notes for online quizzes until after they're due. Tests are not bad. If you turn in a ticket from any play at all you can get extra credit. I recommend taking him!
Easy easy easy class. All you have to do is go to class and take notes and listen. You're set up for the test if you do that. Two papers as reviews for the plays you have to attend. He's kind of picky about writing, but I ended the class only having to make a 50 on the final to get an A. Definitely take for a Fine Arts credit.
He is a great professor. His tests are kinda hard but if you study you will do fine. He cares about your grade so do not hesitate to email him about it! I would definitely take him!
The class is pretty laidback. He tries to make the lectures interesting but by the end of the semester it can get very boring. Very very easy to make at least a B in the class as long as you review notes before testing. Required to see two plays and write papers on both. Online quizzes come directly from the notes.
He is very passionate about this class and makes it very easy to get an A in the class. If you don't make an A, you didn't try at all. He offers plenty of extra credit and the tests are easy if you studied the material. He practically tells you what will be on the test. Easy A.
Loved this class. Very funny. He is serious about his theatre. Exams were easy if you take notes during his lectures. I would recommend this over any other fine arts class. Easy A.
Sweetman is hilarious. The class is just him lecturing the whole time, but he makes it entertaining. You have weekly quizzes that are timed, but they're super easy, especially if you have your notes. Tests are somewhat challenging, but if you actually study, you'll be fine. Plus, if go see 3 plays you can get 75 extra credit points.
Mr. Sweetman is a good teacher. He's always attempting to make jokes. Lectures seem to go by quickly. This is an Easy-A IF you take good notes or read the book. Online quizzes are pretty simple. All tests are short-answer only. You're required to see 2 plays. Grades are based on points, not percentage ( You can't lose points. ).
Professor Sweetman is a pretty cool guy. There are 2 exams and a final, not hard at all IF you go to class and take the notes from the PowerPoints. There is an online textbook for this class, but you will not need it AT ALL. All quizzes are on Blackboard and exam curriculum is from the notes in class.
It had the potential to be such an interesting class, but was extremely boring. I feel like Prof Sweetman could have made the class better if he put some effort in to it. There are online quizzes every week. you only get to take them once but you can use your notes. There are 3 exams. They are hard because they are all short answer
There are two tests and a final. It does seem like a lot of work for an introduction to theatre class, but as long as one does the work assigned, there is an A in reach. He goes by points, not an average. Offers 75 points extra credit. Also gives EXACTLY what he wants for tests, like exact questions. Online quizzes every week over slides from class
I loved this class and teacher. The class was a little boring but he cracks a few bad jokes to lighten the mood. The quiz questions came right from the book, so it's necessary to read the book before you take it. His tests can be a little tricky but they aren't too bad. I definitely recommend this class.
Sweetman is an AMAZING professor and is always there to help you if you need it. I'm a freshman and really enjoy having him as my professor. Exams are hard but if you study you will do fine. Quizzes are easy, just take the notes from the PowerPoint and it's an easy A. GO TO THE PLAYS. GO TO CLASS FOR THE NOTES. Keeps class entertaining. Take him :)
Mr. Sweetman is awesome! He's a great teacher and keeps class interesting. His quizzes are online and come directly from the notes! However, the papers he assigns are actually pretty hard.. and his exams are all short answer/essay style, so if you don't study you will fail. Overall, it's a pretty easy class! Just don't take the papers/exams lightly
Very nice guy, answered all of my questions and has a clear grading criteria. He tells you exactly what is going to be on every exam, even the final. We had to write four very short papers. He gives a lot of extra credit!
Funny lectures. Gives you everything, so don't buy the book. Tough grader on papers but if you do extra credit it won't matter. Tests are short answer but just review notes the night before (after he tells you what will be on the test) and you will be fine. Attend class or get someone to sign you in but always get notes.
Pretty easy class although it was at 9 am. Tests are pretty much out of the notes. Never read the book still got an A. He was pretty funny which made class easier to sit through on monday and friday mornings.
Professor Sweetman was great! I had him for a 9 o'clock, but he always managed to make sure the class wasn't miserable! Attendance is very important because if you miss too much you'll lose lots of points. His test are extremely easy because the class before he'll literally tell you exactly what to study for the test! Great professor, great class!
Took this to satisfy my art credit. Contrary to everyone else i HATED this class. All he ever did was teach straight from the powerpoint EVERYDAY and it was so boring for a theatre class. His tests are all open response and he is extremely forgetful. would NOT take again.
This is an EASY class. You have a quiz due every Monday at 11:59pm that is online and easy through the textbook website. The day before every test he goes over exactly what will be on the test. He takes attendance everyday and if you miss a certain number of classes your grade gets lowered. Easy A, would definitely take again.
Unique person! His class wasn't hard as long as you keep up with what is assigned.
Sweetman is a nice guy, lectures are boring and tests are all short answer but he will usually have a review day where he tells you exactly what you'll need to know. It's 50/50 whether he'll take attendance most days. You have to go see plays and write papers and he's very specific about those. More work for a Gen Ed than I thought but not too bad.
Professor Sweetman is a really nice guy! I took him for public speaking and his lectures made a pretty dull topic pretty interested. He's a very easy grader and he'll let you turn in things late occasionally. The only thing is attendance is mandatory, but it's really not all that bad given that his lectures are fun to go to. :)
Sweetman rocks. He's funny, he knows how to give a speech, and he's pretty lenient on most things. I wouldn't take anybody else for this class.
Lecture heavy, but interesting. Homework once a week, but you get a 100 just for doing it. Tough grader on the 2 papers assigned. If you do what you are supposed to, you will get an A
He's a very energetic person which keeps the class from being boring. The class before a test day, he gives an outline of what all will be on it, so make sure you go to class that day. If you study, his tests aren't bad. He is a tough grader when it comes to papers, so make sure your writing is at its best when you write a paper for his class.
His lectures are powerpoint based. No discussion. Grades tough but if you follow the criteria, study for tests, and attend class you should get a good grade. He wants his students to succeed and doesn't trick you.
Prof Sweetman has great energy and is really knowledgeable on the subject matter. The class is lecture and note heavy, but he is always very funny and lighthearted. It's easy to get in contact with him if you have questions or concerns as well. The online text is required because you have weekly quizzes, and you can expect to read and watch plays.
Professor Sweetman is a great teacher. Attendance is required, although he allows for 3 skips. There is a decent amount of homework and preparation. He can be a tough grader but he is helpful. He is very nice and wants to help his students. Do homework, show up, and give your speech and you will likely get an A in the class. Take him
Professor Sweetman is very passionate about what he teaches and is very funny during his lectures. He knows that majority of the people in his classes are not theatre majors so he tries to relate how the class can pertain to anyone. There is online hw that has unlimited tries. There are 2 exams, 2 response papers, and two plays that have to be read
Professor Sweetman is a nice guy, but not being a theatre major, I didn't enjoy his class. The tests were extremely hard and it was WAY too hard for a gen ed class on something I would never use again. You have to go to 2 plays (not during class times) and basically if you don't go and don't turn in a crazy hard paper, you fail. Very nice guy tho.
Professor Sweetman is a 10/10. I took him for public speaking and he made the class so light hearted. I hate public speaking but I would take this class again just because he made it fun. There are about 7 assigned speeches. Follow the guidelines and you'll get an A. Homework almost every class but its copy and paste so it will only help the grade.
He's nice and entertaining enough, but the tests are all no note, open answer, unlike other theatre courses. I did theatre my whole life and the questions were still hard to answer. Some are too general or too specific.
Really enjoyed this class! Attendance is mandatory and he always takes role, but the class is just powerpoint notes and his lectures are really interesting. He always tells the answers to the test in the class before, so if you take good notes it's no problem. He's extremely knowledgeable and animated, fun arts class for sure!
Great professor. I would take another one of his courses no doubt. he is caring and considerate about deadlines. doesn't mark off for late work. there are 4 speeches and 2 plays you must attend. really an easy A if you put forth effort. he makes a boring, dreadful subject not so bad.
Professor Sweetman is the best for public speaking. Homework is review questions from the textbook and class is lecture but Sweetman makes it funny. There are no tests or quizzes but 4 speeches. There is criteria for each speech but you choose the topic and you can even read off a script. Willing to help with anything. Take Professor Sweetman!!!
I had him for theatre and the class was a breeze, however, he does talk extremely fast so at times it is hard to keep up with him. You have a textbook online which he assigns chapter readings with questions for an easy 20 points. His exams are 25 short answer questions. As long as you do the textbook readings/questions and have notes you will pass.
Amazing professor. He makes the lectures interesting and entertaining. You just show up and take notes and you will be fine. Not much required outside of class except for the weekly online textbook assignments and two papers. There is a review before every test. He's very nice and friendly. A very straightforward class that I never stressed over.
I had Sweetman for theatre which I was not excited about but he made the class so much fun, he is a hilarious man which made the lectures so much better. He is very understanding and is willing to work with everybody as far as turning in late assignments. I will take him for future classes for sure.
He is aware that most students are only taking the class to cover a gen ed requirement, and will help and give extensions as needed. The bulk of the work comes from online homework assignments from each chapter that you literally can't make less than 100 on. His tests are all short answer, but he gives the question bank the class before the exam.
He was an amazing professor. He's super funny, which made the class interesting. It's not hard. Just stay on top of your homework, and it's not bad. There's only two exams, two papers, and two plays, which are what the papers are about. Also, he basically gives hints as to what will be on the exam. He's great.
Lectures are very politically charged. He's a big Democrat. Other than that, he taught the concepts well and speeches were easy because I knew what he wanted. There are also several online homework assignments. Not too bad. Just a very loud person, especially about his beliefs.
Great Prof easy class.
Sweetman is the best professor at UTC hands down. I have taken him two times and I loved both classes. I took him for theatre and he knows most people are in there because they have to be. He makes his classes fun and is very willing to help. He is very outspoken about his political beliefs and he really tries to get to know his students.
It was a great pleasure to be able to attend Professor Sweetman's class. His grading criteria makes it so that no one will end up failing his class unless they just ignored all of his assignments. His exams are incredibly easy which really helps boost your grade. Overall, Professor Sweetman was probably my favorite professor I had for the fall term
Professor Sweetman's class was so great! I learned a lot about public speaking, and I think he helped me overcome a lot of my stage fright. This class is not difficult as long as you put the work in. Take him! He's very kind and understanding. (:
This class is pretty easy as long as you listen, take notes, and pay attention. Professor Sweetman really does live up to his name though. He's very genuine and cares about how his students are doing mentally. He does grade fairly hard on speeches but he makes sure to give thorough feedback. You just have to make sure to step up and show interest.
Super easy class. I have friends who took intro to theater with other professors who made them write essays and lots of homework, but Prof Sweetman was super easy and very nice & accommodating! I would hands down take him again for intro to theater!
Professor Sweetman's class is really easy and consists a lot of online work. You have 4 speeches total so your average of those is basically your grade. You do have to work hard on your speeches to make an A but he will always help you after class if you need it.
Possibly the sweetest human. It's in his name. He is an excellent professor and is very clear on what he requires. I would recommend him to anyone.
I was going through a tough time this semester and he was understanding and it really meant a lot to me.
Sweetman is an engaging and wonderful person who only wants the best for his students. His test are heavily memory based meaning they are all fill-in-the-blank... you have no word bank. He is very nice and understanding when grading. He cares and it's apparent when he teaches. You will go to two plays, write about them, 2 tests, a final, and HW (:
He is the best professor I have ever had! He always makes the lectures fun, and he is hilarious and entertaining. There is homework but it is easy, online, and not due till the end of the semester.
professor sweetman is exactly what his name suggests. there wasn't a single lecture where the class didn't laugh at least once. such a personable guy who loves what he does and cares about his theatre. i plan to take him again next semester!
Professor Sweetman has been the best professor I have ever taken. He cares about his students, he gives great feedback, and he is extremely understanding. I would 100% take any class he teaches. Attendance is mandatory but you have 3 excuses before they count off.
Professor Sweetman is an amazing professor. His lectures are entertaining and informative. He lets you know what exactly is going to be on the exams, so they end up being pretty easy. He's clearly passionate about the subject he teaches, and he cares about his students succeeding.
king frl
I took this class because it was a requirement as a Rollins Scholar, so I had very little prior interest in theatre. However, Prof Sweetman was incredibly engaging during lectures, and I found myself looking forward to his classes. The tests are really just not that hard, and he's not a tough grader with the papers either. Show up, you'll be fine.
Professor Sweetman cares about his students and is sure to give individual feedback for every speech. He likes to joke around, but sometimes lectures can be a bit boring. As long as you regularly attend class and have your speeches ready, you will do good.
I found him to be quite hilarious! His class was also super easy. Over the course of the semester, we had to write only 2-3 papers. We had to write about both shows that UTC does. We also had to do McGraw-Hill for homework, which was annoying, but it wasn't his fault.
Great guy at heart but even better professor. Very leniant and can give extensions. Wants his students to get an A. Makes lectures super funny and just an overall great person. Assignments are not hard at all just require you to put in the time and effort.
Professor Sweetman is so nice and his class is very enjoyable. He is very lenient if you ask for extensions. There is lots of homework but it is super easy. You will have to go see two plays during the semester and write a paper about each. All exams are short answer and need to be studied for. I would definitely recommend taking this class if able
I'm not sure why he has such good ratings. Classes are extremely boring and mandatory. The exams are all short answers with the answers being in another language, so it's super hard. His final was actually impossible. 80 short answer questions. Do not recommend.
only graded on multiple speeches, and a few homework assignments but they were online and relatively easy. Had to give about 5 or 6 speeches but the longest one was about 5 minutes. If you go to class and write your speeches you will be good.
Sweetman is hilarious in lecture and will try to respond very quickly, even during weekends. He is clear with what will get good grades. DEFINITELY attend and pay attention/take notes in lecture and the rest of the class will be extremely easy. There are only 2 essays based on the 2 plays he makes you see, plus assignments online.
Professor Sweetman is an engaging lecturer who cares about his students. The class is manageable with regular attendance and effort on speeches. Unstuck study and the free textbook were helpful study tools.
Prof Sweetman is such a cool guy. He is somehow able to bring the same energy every lecture and it makes the class much easier to attend.
Professor Sweetman is genuinely such as good teacher. As long as you go to class and make an effort you will do fine. If you ever have the chance to take him for this class specifically you should; he made the class much more enjoyable!
To be honest he is way too strict of a grader for a 1000 level class. Speeches that i was CERTAIN i did well on id get a 75. The online assignments take a long time but you have a long time to do it. Also, if you misunderstand an assignment and submit the wrong thing he just says “there's always next time” and wont let you submit the correct thing.
He was very nice and super energetic. Class was decently easy, 4 main speeches and some homework. I think if you put in the work required and show up, you can definetly get an A. He was quite strict on the grading though and getting a 100% on the speeches seems very hard - not impossible though; some people did. I would suggest his THSP1090 class!
I would not recommend Professor Sweetman. When he grades essays, his feedback is unclear. He made a smart aleck remark about my attendance to the class when I was outside of the room (I was three minutes late once). He also made sexual jokes during lecture everyday. He lacks professionalism.
Professor Sweetman was a great Professor. He makes the class interesting and fun. His personality really makes the class, and I would 100% take it again. He taught me a lot about public speaking, and I think his lessons are something I will carry on later in life. Sometimes he can be in a bad mood and a bit grumpy, but we all can, so TAKE HIS CLASS
Genuinely changed my life. If you and the people in your class use the small room to your advantage and become friendly, he loves fostering those relationships and creating a great learning atmosphere. Thank you so much Professor Sweetman for making a difference in my first semester.
A great professor overall. Once you begin this class, you of course will be shy and don't want to speak, but at the end you won't have a problem speaking in front of a class. Only have to do 5 speeches which is fairly easy. Grades pretty fairly. You will have homework but gives you enough time to submit it.
Professor Sweetman cares about what he teaches but his lectures drag on forever. He tries his best to make it entertaining but there's only so much he can do. His tests and final are ONLY short answer so you have to know your stuff. He posts study guides for them though and if you do them and study with them you will do fine.
