good professor, three tests (multiple choice matching and essay) and two papers. tries to make greece and rome fun and interesting. not an "easy a" but if you study and come to class youll do good.
Good professor who can sometimes make you laugh. Tries to tie in the 20th century to modern times. one midterm and creative project final (not too difficult). Take him
As long as you show up to class, and read what he says to read it's a super easy class. The term paper he does is in class and much easier to handle. Of course you can't just BS the whole thing, which is what some students attempted to do. One of my favorite teachers I've had and recommend him to anyone taking 20th cent humanities.
DO NOT take him!! He is the worst!!! his tests and quizzes are insanely hard, he grades ridiculous!! I dropped his class right away! I was taking him online.
Too late for me to drop, so I will take it and pass! He could have been more helpful.
This professor is the worst. He takes off one point for every discussion post even if you covered every point. Almost like it will kill him to issue a perfect score. I would advise you to become a thesaurus maniac because he is a sesquipedalion and uses excessive big words all the time like he wants to confuse you. He makes Humanities horrible.
This teacher is horrible! I took him online and it was the worst! He gave me a 0 on a Analysis paper because he "detected" plagiarism. That paper took me weeks to write!! Don't even dream on getting a perfect score with him. Apparently he wants us to dig his brain for the perfect answer. . I really Don't recommend him!!
Horrible professor. Took the course online, but I dropped him after a few weeks. He spent his time copying and pasting questions online, and traveling Europe during the course. Then he makes his students download Spyware to prevent "cheating". His big paper assignment is on this narrow specific subject for easy grading. Pretty lazy.
HUM 2220 for GreekRoman Hum. He's traveling Europe which prevents him from being readily available. He won't reset tests after noon on Sundays. Got a 0 on one of the tests for this reason. He's a tough grader, wants to make sure you're reading, however, I didn't and I still have a B. The analysis paper affects grade big time. Otherwise, easy AB
He is a tough grader. He almost never gives a 10 on discussions, even when you answer it completely. His tests are hard and so are the quizzes. Sometimes his wording is confusing in the tests, to the point where because the words were changed up, you dont know the answer because it says something different in the book or slideshow.
Hes a good professor, but you have to do the analysis paper (its worth a lot).
Took him for summer online Greek and Roman. The class was fast paced, but he was really knowledgeable about the subject, and he shared tons of his own pictures from all of the ancient places hes been. Work load is not too bad a few tests, papers, and online discussions. I took this as a requirement, but it was really interesting!
He provides a study guide for each test with everything that's on it, so tests are pretty simple. Answers email really fast. The analysis paper is short but it's a big part of the grade. Good prof for Greeks and Romans online.
I've had a tough few months in my personal life, and I was worried that the professor wouldn't allow me to retake the course, but he allowed me into one of his spring classes with no issue.
I didnt use the book because all of his powerpoints cover the same material. Class is not that hard but you have to keep up with the discussions
Online class, wasn't that tough. Take him.
He's an okay professor. do the analysis paper. He is a tough grader. He almost never gives a 10 on discussions- even when you answer the questions. His tests are hard and so are the quizzes. His wording is confusing in the tests- an essay of 300-350 during the tests. Is not enough time to finish them (the midterm & final)- he answers emails.
Professor Szymanski was great for Greek and Roman online. The analysis paper is a must, but he provides correct answers for mistakes in his grade comments so you know the correct answers for the test. The best part about the class was his photo updates from the greek and roman places he's been to - inspiring! Take him!
Professor Szymanski was a good professor for Greek and Roman online. Took this course in summer and it was pretty laid back. You are timed on the tests, but it seemed to be enough (each test has a study guide, so its pretty simple).
I had a tough semester, and he was understanding with my problems. The class is not hard but things are due every week.
Syzmanski is a great professor for greek and roman humanities! The weekly readings are interesting and I love his pictures of all the places hes been! Inspiring and one of my favorite classes at Valencia so far.
Professor Szymanski is great! The class is very interesting (but theres a lot to read). The exams are pretty easy because he gives you a study guide before each one. He puts up pictures of where hes traveled to, which was cool and inspired me to go to Greece and Rome someday! The analysis paper is not that long, you need specific info in it.
Syzmanski was a great professor online. Even though I hate online classes, he made it enjoyable. Photos are good, tests are not too hard, but the paper counts for a lot.
I believe this prof aims to make his class challenging & makes excuses not to give u full credit for ur discussions/paper. This was literally the toughest class I've ever taken. 1 Discussion & 1 quiz every week. 2 Exams & 1 three page analysis paper thats worth a lot. Made a huge deal out of plagiarism. He made us buy the book but we didnt need it!
Great class. PowerPoint lectures have everything you'll need for the tests and quizzes. The readings are important to get good grades on discussions. We only had 2 tests, which were relatively easy IF you do the study guides!
Szymanski made the humanities seem interesting to me, even if its not my major. Big grades are the tests and analysis paper. As long as you study and take your time with the paper, its not that difficult.
Must participate in weekly online discussion posts & reply to other students for grading & attendance. Big on plagiarism & respect, which is good. 3 main grades are 2 exams (study guide provided) & an analysis paper. Follow directions, read the chapters, read the power point notes he provides and this class will not be too challenging.
Professor Szymanski was great! The class was fairly simple and everything is well-organized, so there isn't a lot of confusion as to when things are due. His photos of the ancient temples and art were inspiring. Best online class I've taken!
Professor Szymanski's summer class is pretty fast paced, but I learned so much. Not too difficult, but you need to keep up with the readings and discussions. Two tests and a paper. Photos are cool!
All in all he is a good professor to take. Worked hard (lots of discussions and quizzes) in his online summer class. Annoyed because I carried an A throughout the entire course and on the last exam (short answer questions) he graded very tough and brought my final grade down to a B. I do recommend but beware. Doesn't answer emails very quickly!
Tough grader who nitpicks about everything, much better professors out there for this course.
Class was really interesting, but there are a lot of test (3), he does give you a study guide with everything on it, so its not crazy difficult
Professor is very rigid on grading and is usually very strict on deadlines. Do not take him, there are better options.
Professor provides very confusing discussion topics, he thinks we are the same academic level as he and so he expects we write like Homer or an English major. Humanities suck
He's a fair grader, but he want's detailed answers on the discussions and tests. I loved his travel photos from Greece!
The class has 1 three-page paper and a few tests. Some of the readings are a little long, but really nbd. Take his class, he makes humanities interesting, even online.
Detailed class. Lots of information to cover, but Syzmanski makes it very interesting. One of the best humanities classes I've taken
He gives an incredibly boring research paper that you may ONLY use dusty articles or books as sources. He didn't allow any websites, the textbook, or any resources from the class. He asks you don't use outside sources when doing discussions, which is odd as some of the info in the lessons are outdated. Tedious class that I couldn't wait to finish.
Easy class, you just need to keep up with the due dates. He gives good feedback on your discussions. Take him.
Professor Syzmanski was very understanding with everything going on with the Coronavirus. The class was not too challenging, and if you can keep up with the weekly assignments and do well on your paper, you should be fine.
He responds quickly to emails. Humanities isn't my major, but I enjoyed this class.
I thoroughly enjoyed professor Szymanski's Greek and Roman class. He makes humanities interesting, and he's got some inspiring photos of his traveling. I would highly recommend taking his class.
The book isn't really required but it is good to have. The one paper make sure, you start it early enough and give it to him beforehand so he can give you feedback and tell you what you need to change. You have to read the PowerPoint and understand it to pass the quizzes. The class is straightforward and not hard at all definitely recommend.
I took his summer Greek and Roman class, and it was pretty fast paced (not sure how it goes for fall and spring), but he was also really understanding with the whole COVID-19 situation, which affected me.
Easy and engaging. I would probably take his class face to face, but with the corona I guess this will do. Take him!
First off dont buy the text book didnt even use it one. Second his assignments are so confusing he gives you power points for the quizzes which I guess are the only thing easy in this class but other than that the discussion were always confusing and so were the papers didnt even give an example of what he was looking for in the paper. Dont take
do NOT take this Professor. Just dont.
Theres not a whole lot to do each week of the class, which is nice. The paper is worth a lot, however, and he cares about which sources you use. Take his class
Intro with Syzmanski was pretty easy. Some quizzes come from his lectures and some come from the book (and some from both I guess?). I enjoyed the class, even though its not necessary for my major.
easssssyyyyyyy
I enjoyed all of the ancient works we read for the discussions, and some topics like Stoicism I really connected with. The three exams are not that difficult due to the study guide he gives you. Quizzes are easy.
Professor was good. All of information you need for quizzes/tests can be found in his power points. His power points were very well planned out and had a lot of interesting things. MAKE SURE YOU TURN THINGS IN ON TIME!!! Once the assignment is passed the due date( besides the paper), IT WILL BE LOCKED AND GRADED AS A 0.
Thoroughly enjoyed his class!
I enjoyed professor Szymanski's Greek history course. Lots of interesting information on the myths especially, which I love. He's looking for some specific things in the Analysis Paper, but he clarified by email so all good. Stay on top of the deadlines and this class is not too tough.
Great class, cool photos, and he even gave me some travel advice for my upcoming trip to Italy!
Patrick Szymanski always gives you a good feedback. The quizzes are not that hard and honestly you not need the textbook. Is not a tough grader and his discussions are fun to do. Be ready to read btw.
The class was pretty simple, a few tests and discussions and lots of quizzes. He seems pretty knowledgible on the humanities and I found certain parts of the class pretty interesting.
LOTTTSSSS of reading, but other than that, a good class! Hes a fair grader and leaves you comments so you know the correct answer for the test.
Professor Szymanski takes the time to respond to assignments with his feedback, which I really appreciated. The class itself is not too difficult and his notes are interesting.
Good prof, not a lot of writing but lots of quizzes. Pretty easy for intro
This teacher is amazing. You have just quizzes and discussions. It's all just simple. You have 3 Exams total. 3 worksheet assignments all super easy. You do have to read a lot and the book is required. For the quizzes some answers are on quizlet and some you'll have to read, but I would definitely recommend taking this class. AWESOME TEACHER!!
Professor Szymanski is a great teacher. Just quizzes and discussions that's about it. I used the book a few times but honestly, you'll pass without it everything is online. He has lots of cool picture. Class was definitely interesting. Take him he is good.
Overall the class is easy, mostly just quizzes and discussions but there is the occasional homework, all require a lot of reading. He takes points off of almost all work turned in but doesn't tell you why. The book is required but honestly you don't really need it. I would have gotten an A but I skipped two discussions, so they make a difference.
the professor is clear in what he wants and he will get back to your emails pretty quickly. All in all a good course even though humaniites is not my major
Super easy professor for intro to humanities! Mostly quizzes and discussions, and some multiple choice tests. Take him, you won't regret it!
Professor was good and class was organized and easy to follow. Online textbook was nice for this class (didnt need to buy it!)
Lots of reading, but its interesting. Wasnt too hard but you have to keep up with the readings and do the discussions.
The Greek and Roman class with Szymanski was great. Well paced and he lets you know generally what will be on the test in the study guides. The analysis paper is a big chunk of the grade but otherwise nothing too big to be concerned about.
Textbook is virtually optional. I did the whole course without it. Everything is open book, but without the textbook don't hardcore study his PowerPoints. I ended up getting a lower score on his exams when I studied vs not studying. My only chief complaint is that he takes an entire dynasty to respond to any questions you send, as well as grading.
Intro to humanities was good with him, but theres a lot of reading to do, for the reading quizzes and the lecture quizzes. The upside is that the course isnt that difficult and ended up being pretty interesting.
Professor Szymanski was good for intro to humanities online. He included lots of different type of content (videos, music) instead of just reading the text all the time.
Syzmanski was a good professor for Greek and Romans, but theres a lot to read for the discussions. Otherwise, just make sure you do good on the analysis paper, its worth a lot
Professor Szymanski provides interesting readings and class discussion questions (its sometimes a lot of reading though).
The summer class with the professor is fast paced (six weeks!) so theres a lot of reading but it was interesting. Take him.
Top top top!!!!
his class was well organized and there weren't any surprises, everything was clear. interesting subject with a good professor
I would never take any of his classes again. This professor writes these long and boring 11page lectures without fact checking himself then penalizes you for calling him out on misinformation and accuses you of using “outside sources”. Worst professor in my opinion.
I was so stressful taking his class. He took points off for every assignment and all assignment just had one attempt to submit. That's mean NO second chance. If you message him, he won't bother.
Very harsh grader even if you do talk about all the topics that it is asking you for. The tests consist of short answers, multiple choice, art matching, plus an essay in 90 minutes. The final paper is a pain as you can't use any website, textbook, or any resources from the class only the valencia library alone. Discussions can be lengthy as well.
Intro with this professor is pretty easy. Tests are all multiple choice and its mostly quizzes otherwise.
Probably one of the worst professors that the school has to offer. The class would be very easy if it was just a different person teaching. Harsh grader and does not care about the student's future. He will kill your grade in this class, hurt your GPA, and put your financial aid status at risk just because he enjoys being a pain for his students.
The kind of professor that refuses to give students extra credit or redo any assignments, is just a professor who is committed to making your life harder. He doesn't care that this decision alone can financially destroy a students future (like mine might be now). As a low income student, this class might be the reason why I lose my financial aid.
You will have a hard time
His class is pretty easy, the answers for the quizzes are all in his lectures, but also easily found online
Really enjoyed the professors lectures, hes been everywhere and includes photos with the lectures. His grading is a little strict on the discussions, but you also get the correct answers from them and this makes the exams pretty easy in the end.
Lots of reading, and the discussions are complex, but I enjoyed the class.
Literally worst professor I've taken, a REALLY tough grader for barely any information given, his research paper is ONLY from Valencia library which sucks because you can barely find anything there, NO EXTRA CREDIT/NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED (only removes one 10 point discussion from your grade at the end of the course). DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
This class wasn't required for my major, but I ended up enjoying it anyway. It's all pretty straightforward and the class is organized.
Good prof for greek and romans, three tests and a lot of discussions, one big paper but thats it.
His quizzes and exams are simple, just make sure you pay attention to answer all parts of the discussions.
The professor's photos from his travels make his lectures interesting. The classwork itself is really easy...if you keep up with the work, its an easy A.
Prof was uninvested and nitpicked assignments making it nearly impossible to get an 'A' on anything. He seemed to forget this was a GenEd class rather than a specialized class. The ancient texts used in the class were the only sources permitted which made the assignment too hard. Writing was graded super harshly too considering the few sources.
Lots of quizes and lectures for this professor, but its easy to get an A
Professor S makes the humanities interesting, and I really enjoyed his class. The discussion readings are important, but a bit long sometimes. Id recommend him.
He seems like a good guy but grades SO harshly, even if I meet well past word count and post requirements, he somehow always manages to critique something I COULD have added and therefore deducts points from my posts/essays. It's not honor locked but there is a ton of material to remember for tests.
This guy is such a harsh grader for no reason. He always talks about how you could have written about something even though it wasn't in the rubric. Takes points off and doesn't elaborate and tons of reading. Just completely unfair, no extra credit and no way of getting an A even if you follow the rubric, I guess he has his own mental rubric.
Easy A. Lots of quizzes though
His course is not easy, and there is a lot of reading, but the subject matter is interesting and hes got photos in his powerpoints from everywhere in Greece and Rome.
He was a decent professor, but he is a really tough grader if you don't follow his exact rubric he takes off so many points, even after I would research and try my hardest he would always find something. I never got a 10/10 on a discussion... tbh I would avoid him.
no papers was amazing, just discussions and weekly quizzes, pretty easy and he lets you use a study guide on tests (I took online). class follows a chronological order through history which made a lot of sense. really enjoyed the class and the prof was great. but yes be ready to read and maybe take notes if that helps you.
Took him for the summer version of Greek and romans...pretty easy
