Amazing professor. Will definitly open your eyes to many things beyond just literature. If you are looking for an easy A, avoid; you will get much more out of his class than others even if you end up with a lower grade. Would definitly recommend for anything he teaches.

The best word to describe Professor Tierney is unique. I found his class not only fun but interesting. Yes, his assignments are different, but if you put some effort into it, you will do good in his class. Extra credit for those students who like bugs and creepy crawlie things! LOL

I loved this class! It certainly wasn't your typical English class, which made it interesting and enjoyable. Mr. Tierney is very unique! You just have to "get" him. If you plan upon attending graduate school, this is the teacher to take. You will be exposed to an academic environment that nutures critical thinking and values the input of the class members. All projects are clearly outlined and the expectations are explained. You need to be open minded and you will learn more than just English.

Hes one of those simpsons/family guy/star wars fans so his humor is strange but he is awesome!! I mean the class is challenging but it is definately worth the work because in the end you are only helping yourself. You have to read 5 books so if you hate reading dont take him.

Fantastic professor! Class was always interesting. Some of the novel's can be confusing or even boring but overall the class was great. I always looked forward to going to class. Does not give 100% to anyone as his explanation is "No one is perfect". Even if you receive no errors at all, you receive a 99%. You must read a great deal in his class. Extremely strict on grading papers for grammar and punctuation-must be precise! I made an "A", but I am an "A" student. Be prepared to work and you'll be fine. Good overall.

Tierney is a great teacher. He makes you think a lot. Five essays and each one is worth more than the one b4. Ex. essay1 10% essay2 15%..He is willing to help if you ask for it. There is alot of class discussions.

Easy A! He grades easy...if you are interested in war then this is your class. Every piece of work he gives is related to war. I hate war but yet i still did well. You have 4 piece of graded work. He lets out class almost 30 mins early every day! Definately a plus! :)

An absolute pleasure. I looked forward to this class every day. His theme of the class was Bioethics, "Should Man Play God?" It was SUCH a FASCINATING class I was blown away. The books were great, not too many either, and the discussions really sent me home thinking. He deserves a lot of respect- best in the English dept.

I loved Prof. Tierney's ENC1101 class.I liked that we did class discussions on everything & he fully explains what's going on.His essays were pretty simple (at least to me).He didn't use that handbook at all when I took him.Just show up,participate & do your essays and you'll be fine;overall he's a great teacher.

He's kinda strange but he's pretty funny and a great teacher. This class was a lot of fun and he really encourages experimentation, although sometimes he asks people to change things in their poems or stories that I thought they shouldn't have. Overall a great professor.

the class was overall interesting. there were days were it was really boring because it takes him forever to say one thing. we had to do a 15 min presentation which sucked but the class is overall easy. hes helpful if you dont understand something. wouldn't take him again though

Awesome course and professor, Survey of Humor in Literature, EPIC WIN. It is not a super easy course but if you put in the work , use your brain and go to class it is a very satisfying course, class clowns are most welcome in this course my self and another friend of mine took that role to heart and it made it a killer semester.

He's a really nice guy and is very good at teaching. I took him for comedy and I personally thought that for being a comedy class he made it hard. He had us read four books at the same time I'm not much of a reader so maybe for some who like reading its not a problem but this class was just too much. My math class was easier than this class.

Excellent professor. He is not afraid to go outside the box in choosing the novels, assignments, or topics for discussion. The course was extremely interesting, stimulating, and relatable compared to the typical"traditional" literature course. A real gem. Our class had a "on the road" theme. He intentionally keeps the costs of books low. He pushes discussion among students, and shares his own experiences (very human of him). A little homework heavy, but you have a lot of freedom in your writing assignments and interpretations of the books you've read. Very fun class.

I took his linked ENC-SPC class and it was so great! We only read one book which was pretty interesting in my opinion. We have two major papers and a film project at the end of the term, but overall the class was very insightful. It was based a lot on peer discussion and he was a mediator. I would recommend it to anyone. Beware - bad handwriting.

Great professor! You will be writing all of your essays including the rough drafts in class. Also with most of the rough drafts, it will be mandatory to go to the writing lab for a grade. He grades kinda tough, but he gives you a rubric based on how your essay will be graded.

I am currently taking Professor Tierney, he is the best teacher I have ever had. He cares about you. He wants you to succeed and to truly stimulate yourself mentally. This was my second semester taking this professor, and I plan to take him for a third. Always has amazing lectures, allowing no one to become bored. He sits the class in a huge circle, opening up the classroom. This semester I wrote much less than last, only two essays and one journal that he insisted he'd be a tough grader on (but he kinda wasnt)

I took Professor Tierney for ENC1102 and I took him again for LIT2380 and I am so glad that I did. He speaks very clearly and focuses on the critics thinking aspect of Womens Literature and Womens rights/roles in society. He put us in a position where we had to dig deep into these issues and the class discussions were amazing! I would take again!

I love this professor. He's really funny and will answer questions when asked. There's a lot of reading and some of the books may not be immediately available, but if you get your books early, you should be fine. Kinda strict on attendance, but if you let him know you're not gonna be in class, he will work with you.

Professor Tierney is incredible! He is very down to Earth and hilarious! Ask him what you need to, he encourages questions. Don't skip out on reading the Women In Literature novels: YOU WILL NEED THEM AT THE END. There are group projects and he expects you and your group to work it out, but otherwise, he will intervene if needed. He's awesome!!

Great professor and would recommend. Women in lit is a hard subject for a woman to teach, let alone a man, so it was very cool to see his perspective on things. Class is easy, homework is neutral, and the final is take home.

Great guy but you need to work to pass. 2 presentations, 1 is a group presentation. 4 books you have to read and write a 1 page paper on each. The final is take home. Really an interesting class and the books are pretty good.

His class was so enjoyable and I feel like i genuinely got things out of there that have just changed me as a person. He is nit picky as hell though. On my midterm he told me I was supposed to be the 3rd A in the class but he knocked my grade to a C because I was missing one little part in the assignment. You get what you put in essentially

Be ready to read a lot. He means well and has clear grading criteria. He is funny and you can really see his love for literature.

Honestly was scared to take this class, especially after the first day. It seemed like there was a ton of papers, & lots of reading to do, but its not like that at all. Don't let his super "strict & serious" demeanor fool you he is a big teddy bear seriously. He is hysterical, & so kind. Very lenient. Barely any HW, a lot of group work, no test.

This class will genuinely make you a better thinker, reader and writer. He makes you work for your grades, no handouts, but with his help its an easy class. There is a lot of reading but also movies, so dont rely on sparknotes. He gives great feedbakc and he wants you to get an A.

There are not enough words for me to describe how AMAZING this professor is. I took him for ENC 1101 and 1102 and couldn't be happier. He's an amazing teacher and ensures all of his students understand what's being taught. He walks you through each assignment and will always help if you don't understand. 100% would recommend!!

I strongly advise taking Professor Tierney's class if you need to take an English class. Especially if you need it for writing or English major. I was looking for a good teacher, but I got an even better professor. He cares about his students and actually is interested in what we have to say. It was the most interesting class I've ever taken.

Not that much reading class focuses on more writing than anything. Just go to class since attendance is important and he gives great feedback to be scared to ask.

You will read lots of books, but they aren't too bad. You get graded on discussion boards which he does take seriously so take your time in doing them. The lectures aren't mandatory but it is helpful. Overall, I really enjoyed his class and he is sooo funny definitely would take his class again.

By far my favorite class. Professor Tierney is AWESOME!! I highly recommend him to any student. You might not get his jokes all the time but he is pretty funny. Very intense books to read but I learned a lot in this course. If you put the work in, it will pay off.

Professor Tierney is amazing at teaching this course. At first, I was a bit skeptical with all the work, but as long as you pay attention in his class his homework is fairly easy to do. Very charismatic and down to earth. He does not sugarcoat things so don't take his class if you can't take things lightly. Overall, 10/10 professor.

As long you follow carefully what he expects of you, you will get an A in this class. This is a high level of English, this is not high school anymore. If you are a lazy person hoping to to get thing easy do not take him, because you will work for your grade. nothing good comes easy in life. I love his class and learn so much from it.

If you have to take a Lit class, TAKE HIS HUMOR CLASS! The work only consists of discussions, midterm, final and a movie review. Sounds hard but its really simple. Youll spend the whole class looking at comedy videos and later discuss why it was funny and how it was constructed.

His humor class is the best! But if you are really sensitive and cant handle a joke or even support cancel culture dont even bother to sign up. You wont survive in there and youll just ruin the fun for everyone. This class is for people who really enjoy humor.

Very nice Professor he gets you to think. His class was pretty easy. We had an informative research paper on technology, read the shallows and did discussion questions, had an annotated bibliography, and we made a final for the book the shallows. TAKE HIM !!

Professor Tierny is hands down one of the best out there. Though you have to read a lot, his class wouldn't make much sense without the reading. All of the books hold a deeper meaning and make you wonder the meaning of life. The mid-term and the final are the easiest I have taken ever. Take this class if you want to find enlightenment.

Professor Tierney is absolutely hilarious! Super chill guy. Very little homework, mostly discussion boards. Never got an 100 despite good writing, always somewhere between 90-98. Besides that slightly frustrating aspect, he is an amazing professor and is easy to access outside of class. Overall, an easy A.

Passionate, critical, and thoughtful: the Prof will make you work for your grade. However, this course can truly change how you perceive life. There are weekly discussion posts, lots of reading, one group project, and one essay toward the end. Great course if you dedicate the time!

Doesn't take long to get feedback on assignments, also enjoyed the books.

He allows you to access class through zoom if you can't attend in person. Alot of reading but not impossible, his books are actually quite interesting. He is a little weird to a certain extent but he is a very nice guy and he is caring. I would definitely take him again.

Tierney is by far the best I've had. How he teaches isn't uniform, which is great! 2nd time taking him and will have a 3rd time. He teaches with questions; he pushes you to think and reframes your thinking in real-time. Lots of writing and tough grading but if you get your papers reviewed, ask for feedback, and keep an open mind, you'll be good!

Loved Tierney!!! Fun professor fun writing assessments, but you have to do the work, participate, show up for class. He gives great feedback, tells you exactly what you need to do, very clear! I am able to take him again for another course next semester! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!!! Such a fun class, enjoyed every minute!

Professor Tierney is hilarious! He requires a couple books to be read, I purchased them, but you can find them online for free I'm sure. Course work is not too bad, mostly discussions if I remember correctly. Overall he's a great professor and If you need this course for a Humanities requirement, take him!

Great professor and one of the best I had so far! He gives a lot of homework and reading. ENC 1101 is relatively easy, just time-consuming. However, ENC 1102 is at another level; it is much more complex and demanding; the idea is that you have learned from your mistakes in ENC1101 and will prove yourself capable of writing more complex essays.

I loved this class! The professor was hilarious and dived into what comedy is, how it's changed, and what types of comedy exist. The class is easy and enjoyable, plus I really liked the books he recommended.

Tierney for Intro to Literature was honestly amazing. I'm literally only writing this review because of how awesome he was. I took him for summer a, which is a super accelerated course (literally only a month long) and his teaching style is literally so awesome. take him if you're able you won't regret it.

Professor Tierney runs a challenging but rewarding class. Engage with the material, use resources like Unstuck ai, and you'll learn a lot. Take this if you're up for an academic adventure.

Great Professor! Really passionate about the material he presents to you. The way he teaches and explains things gets you to think about them in ways you otherwise wouldn't have. "Go down the rabbit hole" was a phrase used frequently and for good reason. A little more work and reading than other English classes I've taken, but definitely worth it!

He's hilarious but not in a way that takes away anything from the content he teaches. You feel motivated listening to him talk as his passion for what he does shows.

Took his Lit 1000 class last semester but forgot to rate. Very nice professor and makes the class actually interesting and not just about memorization. His class was one of the only classes where I walked away feeling like I actually learned something and I still think about the things we discussed in class to this day.

He is going to make you think. Top 3 best teachers I have had. His lectures challenge you without making you doubt yourself. His goal is to make you a stronger thinker and writer. He has a way of making his class grow harder while also making you a stronger student. 10/10 would recommend. You earn your grade but he is very understanding.

He's a great teacher!! I don't understand how people failed his class. Took him during the summer and never once stressed. You write an essay but it's throughout the semester and he gives you feedback without taking over your paper. The only way to fail his class is if you don't try and don't put the effort in. Will take him again later on.
