THIS GUY IS THE MAN! Down-to-earth, and VERY easy. Essays I write in 10 minutes (literally) get A's or A minuses. FInal project is a complete joke. As are all oral presentations where the WHOLE class gets A's. cant go wrong with this dude.
He was a great professor. Was motivating and very fair. He showed very interesting film segments that got us to think about different issues. Very funny!! He treats the class as adults
Prof. Tormey is a brilliant professor -- definitely the best teacher I've ever had. He's kind, compassionate, and really is accessible to his students. Take this class!
Tormey give written h'work every week but its based on really cool films he shows. Decent guy, he answers your e-mails rite away and is kinda funny. Id say take him and you should do oK.
Torme shows films and we did oral reports and typed reports to. Not a bad dude, basically. He is kinda funny and the class is good. Id say on a scale of 1 to 10 hes an 8+ to 9 or so.
Prof. Tormey was really good this past semester. he always helped out after class and really got me to learn the information. i'd def recommend his class
Tormey is fabuloso...tahe him and be happy...
Watch films and write 1 page papers. Need I say more? Also he gets mad if you write over 1 page. Two presentations for the class, but everyclass reguardless of the teacher needs to do this.
Pretty easy professor. showed interestin films, learned a little bit about business but not a whole lot. he's pretty lazy so this class won't be too hard bc he doesn't want that much work for himself. so take him if ur not palnning to work too too hard.
He is fabulous...shows films that are actually interesting and returns youre e-mails and h'works right away. Decent guy--take him.
I took him for business recitation. The class is easy, because he just shows films and the assignments are simple. There is a group presentation assignment at the end of the term though. Take him for an easy good grade and enjoyable class sessions.
Awesome professor. I cannot believe how much I learned on speaking and writing. He gives you tons of handouts and prepares you for the big report at the end. Fabulous prof--take him...
Such a funny and intelligent man. He shows interesting films. Be sure to go to class
OMG what an awesome professor. He gets you to speak in front of the class and write essays based on films. Funny guy yet, I got to say I really learned to speak and write better cause he is a tough grader.
Down to earth professor. Can be funny at times, although usually serious. Makes BUS1000 much more interesting than the lecture professor. He gives the impression that his standards are high, but the assignments can be done easily. Overall, a good professor.
An amazing teacher. I took him for the recitation portion of BUS 1000. He shows us super films and makes us write essays and speak before the class. Actually, I really do write and speak better now. He is very strict on attendance and do not miss any assignments. Awesome professor...take him if you can.
EASIEST PROFESSOR. Took it for winter. Essays arent even essays, just have to answer the questions and list them. Speeches are extremely easy, he's not strict about time, just get to the point. Group presentation will be the EASIEST presentation you will EVER do in your life. No exaggeration involved.
Great teacher. Laidback and makes the class fun and interesting. Highly recommended if you like having easy earned A's.
took him for the winter....one of the best professors I've ever had, interesting and straight forward. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
He is one of the easiest and nicest professor I've taken. He can be strict about attendance but that's about it. He shows a lot of films that are interesting and just an overall interesting class. Great guy.
Tormey was my professor for BUS 1000 and he was GREAT. Actually, I really learned a lot and he helped me with my speaking, writing and also my resume. He plays super films that are actually interesting to watch. Take him if you can.
Mandatory attendance, but here's all you gotta do: show up, listen to him talk through his gibberish, watch his clip which is EVERY single lecture, then go home. Midterm is just matching and T/F. Final is like Jeopardy-fill in the word based on the definition given. Incredibly easy but incredibly boring. Heavy penalty for absences AND lateness.
Great prof, very straightforward, nice, and funny! Basically just shows a film and gives some questions for HW. Come to class, do the little work, thats it! Awesome!
I had him for the recitation class; he is a fantastic professor. Easy, nice, calm, and makes some jokes. The work is very short, simple, and easy. Highly Recommended.
Great professor; warm and funny character. His topics are useful and he makes good use of class time.
Funny professor that is indeed knowledgeable. Class topics are interesting and he makes you want to come back to every class.
Exception professor. I learned a great deal about B2B marketing and he played great films and used Blackboard a lot. Take him if u can, you will be happy that u did.
An amazing professor. He runs this class perfectly to keep you involved, yet you are required to participate in multiple projects. He plays a film every class but they are actually very interesting. If you like marketing then you will LOVE this professor.
OMG what an amazing professor. I learned so much at each class meeting and the films that he shows make learning so much easier. Highly recommend him.
Early morning class but the professor was prepared. He uses powerpoints every class along with films (which are good) I really learned a lot from Tormey. You need to study for his tests cause they are challenging. Overall, I would say good prof and take hime if U can.
Extremely detailed class, he covers the entire book (cover to cover) You'll learn a lot of facts from him and overall, he is an excellent teacher and seems to care about his students.
Wish all MKT profs are like him. Learned so much from his class; so much that I learned from him are applicable in real life too! He teaches with discipline without lacking warmth and fun. Some HWs+GroupProjects +midterm+final +few BB discussions +attendance. Pay attention to the videos-some will be tested & are actually interesting too.
Super prof. He will go over business subjects from A to Z. In addition to Powerpoints, he plays a film during every class & he puts some of the film stuff on tests so you should pay attention. Also pretty strict on attendance so come to class and be ontime.
Amazing professor. He gets you to write better, speak better and debate better. Also, he requires you to prepare a term project report which actually makes you learn more about business and work with teammates. Great class and super prof, take him if you can.
OMG what an AMAZING professor. He makes things so crystal clear and has everything on Bbd to help out. Another thing, he writes you back right away if you have questions. The films are great to watch and he puts them on the tests so pay attention or else. TAKE HIM IF U CAN...
I took this winter course and it was fast paced but I learned so much. I got to be honest, I learned more in 10 classes than I did in a full semester. He plays interesting films; the Amazon one "rocks". Take this prof if he teaches, you will be glad that you did.
His tests are a game and not a test of knowledge The lectures are a piece of cake everything is so simple. No homework either pretty much you do nothing But when the test rolls around its the hardest most tricky game i ever played He expects you to remember everything to the bone while he barely scratches the surface in class
Prof. Tormey is the best, and very kind like a grandfather figure. I took him during the Winter and it was great. His exams are very straight forward (just pay attention in class, take notes) and you'll be fine.
An amazing, and awesome professor. This guy really cares if you learn. Each weekend he sends us all a report on the economy as an extra. His films are always current and relate to the chapters. A truly wonderful teacher.
He posts all the notes online so I just study that and never take notes in class. Never once used the textbook, dont buy. The videos he shows in class is a MUST watch, he puts them on the tests. Not much to study so easy A
Awesome prof. He covers the text from chapter 1 to 20 and gives four quizzes (drops lowest score) He sends you a weekly report on the economy which is pretty cool. He also plays current films which are actually interesting. If you write to him he will get back to you fast. Decent guy, take him.
There is Tormey and then there is everyone else. He is at the top of the list. He plays interesting films, uses powerpoints and answers your email questions as soon as you write to him. Not an easy class, he gives lots of h'work but you will love every minute of it..I am sorry the term is over.
An amazing professor who is in complete control and teaches with a passion. This was far and away my BEST marketing class in Baruch and I have taken a bunch of them.
Took his class during the summer. Quizzes are not difficult; you just have to memorize the terms. Attending class is a must as well, since he asks questions on quizzes about videos he shows in class. Overall, easy A if you put effort in; otherwise, expect what you deserve.
Professor Tormey is one of the best professors I ever had. He made the class so simple and very clear! You only need to study the powerpoints and you will be fine.
He's an awesome professor. If you have a chance to be in his class sign up without hesitation. He's very clear-cut literally every question on the exam comes from what he tells students to pay attention to. He's a funny guy with a NY accent which makes his lectures a little more interesting and he's very nice.
Tormey plays one or two videos for each class and they are really good and useful to watch. He returns your emails right away and is willing to stay after class to answer your questions. Overall, a great professor and i would take him again.
Tormey goes through each chapter from the book and then plays 1 of 2 films that are related. The films are actually fun to watch. He responds to your questions right away and gives four tests but drops one of the lowest grade. I like this class a lot, and so far I have learned a lot too.
Took this for the summer and Prof. Tormey's lectures are interesting especially his films. He shows several of them every class and there are questions on the tests based on the films. Textbook is not needed. Just study his powerpoint slides and you'll be fine.
Took it in the summer so we rushed through the chapters, but definitely take him. Pay attention to the films and take notes on them, then memorize the power points he puts on blackboard and you'll do well. You don't need the textbook because everything on the test is either in the films he shows or the power points. Straight forward M.C tests btw
He is very helpful if you reach out! Gives about two tests for his marketing class chap1-8 and 8-16, his midterm is straight forward but you must study. Great powerpoint and examples followed by cool films. Don't skip class or be late, he notices.. and extra credit is always available if you don't abuse it. Great Guy, if you get the chance take him
Participating on blackboard's discussion is more important than participating in his lectures in my opinion. All of his lectures are half watching films and half watching powerpoints presentation, you just sit, relax and watch his lectures given. HOMEWORKS NOT MANY, A FINAL GROUP PROJECT, 3 OR 4 QUIZZES AND THE FINAL. His class is not difficult
Prof. Tormey is great. He'll make you able to get an A and to learn so many things on Business. You'll have all his lecture on PowerPoint, you'll just have to take few notes during the lectures and his interesting films. TAKE HIM. You'll love this course!
3 quizzes (lowest dropped) & 1 final. Study the PPTs, pay close attention to his comments on certain topics (will come up on quiz), take notes on the videos! Tormey is passionate about business. He has a lot of experience that he shares since he owns one. Very nice, humble and fair professor. I got an A in his class! Take him!
He was good. I actually did better when I stopped going to class for some reason. I got an 85 for the first two tests, and then a 94 on the final. Didn't come for the last exam, but he drops the lowest one. If I retook this class, I'd go to all the lectures because they're interesting. Just MEMORIZE the terms, and PAY ATTENTION to the videos.
3 Quizzes (40 Questions) 1 gets dropped and a final (50 questions). He's the best! You just need to go to class to listen to the things he says outside the slides, because some one those things become questions for quiz. Watch the videos he gives in class carefully.
He's an old guy and reads off his PPs, but they're already on BlackBoard. Show up to class because a lot of the stuff on the tests are based on movies he showed in class. His tests (they're three) are relatively difficult, so make sure you study. Overall, take him - he's a strict, but understanding dude.
Tormey is an awesome professor and uses current videos with each chapter lecture. His tests are on the chapter lectures with some video facts included. If you miss a class, all class notes are posted onto blackboard as well. Take him if you can you will be glad you did.
Great lecturer. Shows interesting/entertaining clips as a way to connect the curriculum to real-world everyday encounters. Show up, pay attention and get a good grade.
Large lecture hall class, no attendance necessary (just get someone to tell you the code he puts on the board). Grade based on 3 quizzes (drops lowest one), recitation, and the final. Easy class just study the powerpoints and get someone else's notes on the class videos.
A truly outstanding professor who is totally prepared for each class and uses current videos to clarify chapter content. Certainly one of the "BEST" at Baruch by far.
Torrey is definitely the best choice for BUS 1000. If you put in the work, you can definitely do well. Just some tips for his class- make sure to pay attention to the videos in class, study the powerpoints in depth (the tests can get kinda specific), and you should be fine! I'd say its an easy B class and to get an A work a little harder and STUDY!
BEWARE OF THE RECITATION CLASS! Torrey is a great professor and gives you everything you need to do well on his tests and even drops one grade. My only hatred towards this class was the department that made up the rule that the overall recitation grade had to be mid 80's. Our rec class average was too high so they subtracted points from our grade.
Large lecture class, over 200 students. He puts all that you need to know onto Blackboard. He always plays current videos and includes them on the quizzes. His lectures are very clear and he covered the entire book. Great professor, you need to take him if you can.
His lectures take up the entire class and can be boring at times, no need to take notes because the slides are on blackboard, the videos, however, you should take notes on because there's no links to them, very funny guy, there's 4 quizzes and a final, he'll drop the lowest quiz grade, overall a good professor to take
The material covered in this class was extremely basic - I didn't learn anything new. Lectures can be pretty boring as the PPT slides are just read aloud for the class session. Watch the class films intently and take notes! There will be loads of questions on them on the exams. Study the slides (available on BB) - no need to take notes. G'luck!
The class is basically PowerPoint oriented. PAY ATTENTION TO THE VIDEOS AND TAKE NOTES. Four quizzes and he drops the lowest. The quizzes are very detailed, so long you study the PowerPoint and memorize it. You're good.
Tormey is an amazing teacher and he gets right to the point and lectures on all of the key topics that we needed to learn. He explains the meaning of all of the terms and the concepts and posts all of the notes onto BB'D so it is easy to see and understand. Clearly this guy knows how to teach this subject and is one of the BEST at Baruch.
Middle school level class, taught at the collegiate level. If you can't get a good grade in this class, I don't know what to tell you. Study the slides and pay attention to the class videos. This class displays what is wrong with education. Just another professor who takes powerpoint slides from the textbook company and reads it during class.
Professor Tormey is a great choice for BUS 1000. He really cares for his students. Just read the ppts and take notes on the videos he shows in class.
Tormey is an amazing teacher and this class which was a capstone was awesome. I actually learned just how to dissect an existing company, look for weaknesses, and then invent marketing solutions. In addition, his group project is really unique cause he has you create an entire marketing program for a product that does not exist. Great class.
As a freshman student I really did not know too much about business, but after this class I now know an amazing amount of facts and the true meanings of unemployment, letters of credit, assets, liabilities, and hundreds of other terms. You will learn a lot from this excellent professor.
I had Professor Tormey for MKT 3520 and MKT 5750 and I must say he is truly an amazing guy. He really makes you think as a marketer with his various discussion boards, interesting lectures, and especially the final project. Also, he will bring out the best in you if you're a true marketer. Take him - it will be one of the best decisions you make.
I had Prof Tormey for my Summer Intro to Bus class and he was fabulous. He played interesting films and covered the whole book which was amazing over the summer. I learned a great deal about business and would take this guy again for any course at Baruch.
Had him for the lecture portion of BUS1000. He reads of slides and throws on video after video. VERY EASY. His tests asks questions about the videos which he doesn't put up on Blackboard so it helps if you go actually attend lecture. 3 exams, all multiple choice. Again, very easy and although he just reads off slides, he's hilarious.
Extremely easy. Don't buy the textbook. Seriously. Don't. Attend lecture and listen, study the powerpoint slides. write down the names of the videos he plays and watch them before the quizzes. If you do well on the first two, don't even show up for the 3rd as lowest grade is dropped. Final is kinda cumulative, but still easy. TAKE HIM!
This course is a requirement for all of us so the classes are very large. However, I did learn a great deal about business, especially marketing and finance. A very good professor and very fair in all aspects.
A lecture hall with over 200 students, only powerpoints and videos . PAY ATTENTION TO THE VIDEOS - he includes questions about the them on all the quizzes. There are a total of 4 quizzes, three worth 20 points (he drops the lowest) and a final worth 25 points. Quizzes are pretty easy, just memorize terms from powerpoints + read over video notes.
He is a good professor. All you have to do is go to class, watch videos and study the review sheet that he sends before test. The 3 exams are base on the review sheet and the videos from class. If you are looking for an easy A, well this class will guaranteed you an A as long as you follow these steps. I got a B+ doe to lack of effort from me.
Tests are lecture based and super detailed on the movies you watch in class and from power points so don't miss is for the test! other than that you don't need to come to class, attendance is on blackboard. KNOW the powerpoint well and you'll be fine. You'll easily pass this class but you're also graded from recitation. tests are multiple choice.
This class opened my eyes to the key terms and theories of business and now I can honestly say that I really understand many of the terms that I hear when watching TV or reading a newspaper. Tormey is an awesome professor in all aspects.
The class is very easy but there is a lot memorization. There were multiple choice quizzes mainly from the powerpoint and videos that he play in class. Attendance is done through Blackboard. Also, he requires a textbook but it is not needed. Everything you need to know is on the powerpoint slides.
Prof. Tormey is a very good teacher and takes the time to explain in detail the meaning of the business terms and concepts. He also plays 1-2 videos in each class which relate to the chapter topics. Overall he is a great professor and I intend to take him again this Summer.
Prof Tormey is really a fine teacher and he goes out of his way to explain the meaning of each term in each chapter. His videos are business oriented and related to the chapter content too. Finally, he updates us on the accomplishments of Baruch College and makes us feel proud for attending this school. Great prof overall.
Great, amazing and inspiring.
A nice professor, that's not too difficult. His lectures are essentially a condensed version of the book, so you won't need that. Has a good sense of humor and also his own small business. So long as you review your notes and the PowerPoint slides, you'll be fine. And don't forget about the in-class videos.
I took this course in the summer, it was intense. Plenty of material to keep up with, rather simple to an extent since all he does is read straight out of the slides. Sarcastic and has some jokes that are pretty funny. It is a lot of informatkon to take in but stay focused and you'll be fine.
I took this class in summer and it was too much to keep up with since the chapters were covered in a very short period of time. But I feel like this is the easiest class in Baruch, all you have to do is memorize the PowerPoint and take notes for the videos he shows in class. I totally recommend this class!
Summer class so I expected it to be intense and we did cover all 20 chapters from the book. Tormey plays really interesting videos and his tests revolve around all that we covered in class. I am a Dean's List student and I know the difference between a really good professor and an ordinary one and Tormey is a truly excellent professor.
Professor Tormey is amazing! His 2-hour lectures seem much shorter, maybe because of the class videos. Questions about videos are not hard, just know the basics. In general the material i learned is extremely useful!
Just be there for class, pay attention and you'll pass. This class is HUGE (200 kids). Print out the powerpoint slides and use them for class. Be there to watch the videos, because they'll be on his midterms. He counts the highest 2 grades out of the 3 midterms and the final. It's competitive. Be aware grades can be curved down, SO DO WELL.
After attending Regis High School, I chose Baruch for its high ratings and affordability. At Regis we had the best teachers and Tormey is clearly on their caliber, if not better. He makes sure that we learn every finite detail about each business term and concept. I am so glad to be in his class.
If you want the A, show up to every class on time. Most of the questions on the tests are based on the powerpoint slides he discusses/goes through during the class sessions. But to get the other questions for his exams, you have to be there for when he plays the videos and remember what and who the videos are about. Just try to listen and focus.
Attendance isn't mandatory since it's such a large class but he purposely shows videos during the lectures and puts questions about the videos on the quiz to catch people that don't show up. The lectures are straight-forward and the class is very easy to do well in. All the answers from the quizzes and final comes straight from his lectures.
He is a really good professor that is really knowledge and he shared a lot of relevant material to the current topics. So that was really interesting. Not a hard class, but you do have to attend the lectures for the videos and write everything down, because it will be on the test. Really straight forward and clear. I enjoyed it!
Tormey really loves Baruch and tells us what a highly rated and great college it is. As to his teaching he is really interesting. We learned about Bitcoin, Cloud computing, Warren Buffett, and many more things through his weekly videos which are always on the quizzes. Overall I'd say take him and you wont be sorry.
good teacher! his tests are exactly like the classwork, so make sure you pay attention and TAKE NOTES ON THE VIDEOS!! I learned a lot from this class, and he does drop the lowest quiz grade. if you take good notes and do well in recitation, I can see this class being an easy a. I lost the points in the recitation section, not the lecture. Take him!
Took him last summer, and he was great. Incredibly smart and inspirational. Didn't need the textbook since his slides were pretty much identical, but it definitely is a lot of information to absorb within 5 weeks. Bumped our grades up half a letter. Didn't take attendance, but I recommend going since he showed videos that you needed for the test.
His tests are very easy, just study the powerpoint slides that he skims through during class. Doesn't teach much, just goes over his slides during class. However, you have to show up to class because he shows videos that are hard to find online that are on the test. You don't need the textbook, I never even opened mine. He cares about his students
He purposely shows the videos in the beginning and in the end of the class to make sure you are there for the whole time. Just study and know the slides, usually 5 chapters, by heart, which was annoying to me, and just know what the movies are about.
This professor is very professional and well organized. I took this class over the Summer semester and he covered the entire textbook. I really learned a lot in a very short period of time. Great professor!
Easy class. Took summer 2018 and read off the slides. Recitation is most of the work but easy.
Tormey knows so much about business and his lectures are entertaining and informative. I learned a lot in his class and he's pretty funny. You should show up to watch his videos that are on the tests. His tests are easy to do well on, just know the videos, go over the powerpoints, simple class.
Really funny professor that knows how to keep the class entertained. Didn't like how exams were multiple chapters at a time and so much had to be memorized. He is a very sarcastic teacher and comes off as rude a lot of the times. Also, he's not a very understanding teacher, you either do things his way or fail. Wouldn't recommend him.
He's a great professor, pretty funny. Not gonna lie, his quizzes are somewhat annoying because he includes questions from the multiple videos he plays in class every day and they are often specific. Still he makes it easy for you to get an A. All you have to do is study his slides and you are set honestly but pay attention to the videos as well.
After graduating Stuyvesant High School I chose Baruch to study finance and or accounting. After taking Tormey's class, I am certain that I made the right decision. I learned plenty of business facts and figures ans well as do's and don'ts and watched some really great videos along the way. GREAT professor!
Great professor. Funny and made Business really interesting and digestable. Make sure you take extra notes on the slides he provides. He does 3 tests split by a few chapters per test so it's honestly not that much to memorize. If you just study the night before a test you would get a solid B. He also does attendance verification thru blackboard.
3 quizzes lowest dropped & final all mc & not cumulative. You really need to come to class mainly for key things he tells you in class to remember and the videos he shows - he asks abt the vids and what he talked about in class in the exams. You won't always find vids online. Slides are really helpful. Very funny and gives great advice.
I mean like it is an easy class as long as u study before the test. Just go to the recitation and get the easy A
Whoever said this is an easy A course misled you. You need to memorize a lot of terms and you have to take extra good notes to actually get above a 90 on his quizzes. People in his class ALWAYS TALK and he does absolutely NOTHING to stop them and it was so annoying! Whats the point of coming to class when you have people talking so loud??
I attended Baruch because my parents believe in the value or public colleges as opposed to expensive private colleges. That said, and after taking Tormey's class, they were right. I learned so much about the different parts of business and also the terms that I will need to know as an accountant. Tormey is awesome, so take this class and enjoy!
I am a lower junior at Baruch and to date I have not learned more in and single course as I have in this one. Tormey is great and a really fair and funny guy.
Introduction to Business is a course that we all have to take at Baruch. It is called a prerequisite. Well, I lucked out with Professor Tormey because I learned so much that it made my coursework so much easier in my other classes because he taught us all of the key terms of business. Great prof--take him!
Professor Tormey is an excellent professor. He is very knowledgeable about the subject and provides both historic and recent events to the subject at hand. Study material is available on Blackboard and he is very accessible as well. Be sure to pay attention and show up to class. Exams contain questions from material only spoken or shown on video.
I just finished my summer class with Prof. Tormey and he was really great. We actually covered the entire textbook and had three tests as well. Lots of work but it paid off since I can honestly say that I learned a lot and I am confident as I take my upper level classes. So Tormey is awesome and I definitely recommend taking him.
Hes a great teacher, funny interesting and he makes you understand the material. A nice guy I respect him a lot. You should know the videos very well! Know names of people in it! He asked very detailed questions. Study the slides and know every last detail about them. Dont skip a chart because you think its not important he will ask about it!
An amazing professor. This guy could be teaching at Wharton or Harvard. Crystal clear lectures, well posted notes and slides and extremely fair testing. What a gem!
Another boomer that destroyed America. He makes you remember what he says in class and it will be on the test. He tests your memory from the things he said one to three weeks ago. He gives you unnecessary and unfair true or false questions. He makes you remember useless company names of the videos he showed you and their CEO names.
Professor Tormey should teach other professors how to give lectures. He is very simple and explanatory. You learn about important informations that will be remembered and used in other subjects and in business.
This is one of the WORST business PROFESSORS in Baruch. He doesn't know how to teach. He makes us remember 4 chapters of words, true/false from his sayings/videos. A lot to remember. The final is a pain in the ASS, makes us remember long words with definitions. . Impossible to get an A or B+ unless you study everyday and remember what he says/video
Hes an interesting professor, but what grinds my gears is that his lectures is composed of him reading off slides and videos. Might be an easy A to some, if you actually listen to his lectures and pay attention to the videos, but otherwise expect to get a B, because his quizzes expects you to memorize something that he said weeks ago.
Super easy class, just take notes on PowerPoints in lecture, study them before the quizzes. There's like three or four quizzes including the final, all super easy. Pay attention to the videos he shows in class to get a couple true false Qs on quizzes. Doesn't take questions, just sit and take notes. I never got the textbook and didn't need it.
Took him in the winter and I did regret my decision. He shows a ton of videos so make sure to pay attention because he asks very specific questions about them on tests. To prepare for exams just go over the slides a couple of times and don't bother buying the textbook because you don't need it.
Professor Tormey is a great professor. If you feel he's going too fast, he sends all the PowerPoints before the course begins. The class material is not hard. The quiz questions though are really specific and there are some trick questions
Slides and videos are important!
Powerpoint slides are everything!! The videos on those slides are also important.
Lectures are directly from his powerpoints that are posted in advance. Make sure to pay attention to the videos, test questions are specific but are only on videos and powerpoints. Three tests and a final, drops one of the three. Interesting and clear material for the class. Take him if you want an easy required class.
Really great professor. The class is also pretty easy and he drops the lowest test grade. No need to purchase the textbook, it was never used once.
Prof. Tormey is a decent professor. His slides are accessible on Blackboard, so if you missed class, you won't miss out. His exams are easy if you read the slides. Make sure to WATCH the videos, since he asks questions about the content of the video. I didn't really pay attention in his class but managed to do well b/c of his slides. Take him.
Just finished a Summer class with Tormey and in all honesty, I learned more from him in an on line only class than I did with most of my other professors even face to face. This man can teach.
Amazing Prof, caring, corny jokes, if you want an A then take him.
Tormey cares about his students actually learning, even brought in a guest speaker from a company during a lecture. Grades based on quizzes and final exam. Not hard if you study the slides and watch the videos he includes in class. Take him!
Tormey is so easygoing. He shows videos in class (make sure you take notes they'll appear on test) and all test questions come from powerpoints. He's a cool guy, cracks some jokes on occasion, and it's a really easy class. I doubt any other BUS prof is as easy as him. He makes his own tests. Test every few weeks during classtime, just read pp
Professor Tormey makes his class very easy by providing slides that directly translate to the quizzes. He shows lots of interesting videos in order to increase understanding and he will always clarify if needed. I would definitely take Professor Tormey again given the chance.
Attendance is only taken for the first few classes to make sure that you are taking the class and enrolled, but you should always show up. He goes over all the textbook chapters in class. He is very enthusiastic and funny. Make sure to attend zoom classes because he shows important videos on there and says he will upload them but doesn't.
I took him in the summer for BUS 1001. He s good professor there's a lot of material congested but its the summer so that's normal. It was multiple choice and information from his slides, videos, and small details he says in class sometimes. If your internet goes out during a test or disconnects he doesn't care at all your stuck with what happened.
All about just memorizing the slides. There really isn't anything else to it. Just memorize the slides, get the A. If it's online you better take him because he legit is a free A with the slides being right next to you.
He is incredible professor. He explains the each term with example.I would say this is pretty easy class . Most of the questions comes from powerpoint slides and videos. I highly recommend to students.
Good professor. Cares for his students. The class is big so he won't care if you're not there. The material is easily accessible so studying isn't hard. Overall 8/10.
Extremely funny and friendly. His voice is honestly golden and I could listen to him talk forever. He tends to sometimes give long examples of things which is fun but does take away from class time. His tests are extremely easy. No homework. Download all the PowerPoint Presentations and you're good.
Professor Tormey's lectures are mostly based off of the Powerpoints, but he does his best to add additional content through videos as well as personal experience in the business realm. Show up to each lecture and listen and you should ace each exam. One of the best professors I took at Baruch as he gives great advice and has a great sense of humor
Everything is in the slides. Study vocabulary. The real trouble is in recitation.
Its true that his exams are based on power point. However, he changed the final and it was fill in the answers and lower the time for the exam. It was a torture. The questions were long and I got anxiety when taking the exam bc of the amount of wording and the time. He always screams. Not good prof.
He doesnt care about students as the comments say. Yes, he makes his quizzes out of power point but mostly of what he say. If you dont put the examples he gives or what he talks about he thinks you are cheating. He doesnt listen to the students. Yeah easy class.
He put questions in his quizzes to catch cheaters by saying the only way you would pick the wrong answer would be if you googled it. Which could be a good idea in theory, if he didnt tell us in a previous class that the wrong answer to that question was correct. Doesnt seem to care for his students. Shows lots of videos. Tests are very easy.
A lot of people are being a bit harsh. He is honestly a good professor. He tries to be funny, but emphasis on tries. His lectures can be a bit boring but his quizzes are mostly term based and things he says in class. Make sure to pay attention to what he says. 3 quizzes, drops lowest grade. Overall, not a bad experience
tests are okay since everything is essentially in the powerpoints w/ couple of video questions and general stuff he says during class. can be rude at times when students have questions & doesn't seem to like answering questions. the final was wordy and ppl almost ran out of time. i think he made it extra hard since he assumed we were cheating. 7/10
Does not teach, just reads the PowerPoints. Easy class. Exams are bull, but cant do anything about it. Honestly a useless professor but easy grade.
This dude is totally awesome, liberals avoid this man at all costs. Unabashed Capitalist, ex-Army soldier, slightly gruff but kind old guy. My worst grade in my freshman year, but it was all my fault. He gives you everything you need to know, just utilize the PowerPoints (by combining them and ctrl Fing) and watch the videos in class.
Believe it or not, I learned more from Tormey's online zoom class that I did a few semesters ago in my in-person classes. He takes the time to cover all of the chapters in the textbook and provides easy to follow weekly links on blackboard as well as interesting videos related to the chapters. Take him and you will be glad that you did.
Professor Tormey is a pretty good professor. We only had 3 tests throughout the entire semester and they were all multiple choice and true or false. He posts all the lectures on BB which is awesome since he speaks really fast during the classes. And the best thing is that there is no need to buy the book!
his personality is a lot to deal with but he's really straightforward about what will be on the test. memorize the definitions of the key terms in the powerpoints, pay attention to the videos he plays, and write down any extra information that he emphasizes during lectures.
Hes the best prof ever. 3 exams and thats it. Posts all the slides on BB and all the exam questions are basically just that. Show up cause he says a few important things that wont be on the slides. Easy A, hilarious, and Id take this class 100 times over. hes very honest so liberals should avoid him but overall amazing dude. take him if u can!
Amazing, he is organized, comedy, knows his things. And the work load itself is pretty average for a college class. Answers to tests are in his powerpoint.
His lecturers are very entertaining. He makes coming to class easy. His class isnt boring. Not much work and its pretty much an easy A.
Professor Tormey is a funny guy, I'll tell you that much. The work is fairly self-explanatory and most of the course's concepts are common sense. He has a lot of pride in Baruch, which is great. I wish he was CEO of a bulge bracket bank so it could finally be a target school. Nags you about his instructor evaluation. He's a good egg.
SUPER EASY class. I loved it. 35% Recitation, 25 finals, and 40% for two quizzes ( You have three examinations, but he will drop the bad one ). TAKE HIM. YOU won't REGRET IT. HE IS HILARIOUS & AWESOME. His lectures are very entertaining as you learn and have a good time with his jokes.
What a joy taking this class. We learned so many business terms and watched interesting videos too. Tormey is funny guy but really knows his stuff and wants everyone to succeed. He loves Baruch always brags about what a great school that it is.
Sync. Takes attendance, but can fill the form anytime of the day. Speed-read powerpoints in Lec of just definitions. Important to watch the clips during the Lec - on the exam along with definitions. Records lectures, so you can go straight to it. 2 of 3 Quizzes (40Q each)=40% total. Final (50Q, 25%). Recitation=35%(by another professor). Study PPs.
Clear grading criteria. Exams based on his PowerPoint slides and videos. He records Zoom lessons and you submit attendance through Blackboard.
Textbook no required, everything is on PowerPoint. Pay attention on his lecture and videos played on the class because exam is just based on it plus the PowerPoint.
Great profesor
3 exams, but drop the lowest grade. Exams and finals are based on the slides that he provides you. Just read from the slides and watch the video that he shows in class. Great professor to have.
Guess why there are so many good comments... they all are online. in-person midterms and finals will destroy your GPA if you are not paying attention to the video he tests on weird stuff and there is no link to the video you need to find it yourself. Do not take him if you are not going to pay attention to a huge class.
Only 3 tests and that's it.. Alot of stuff you're gonna be tested he say he mentions it in class but never did.
He goes through the material very quickly but he explains the terms pretty well. On the exams he references back to things he said in class and things from the videos. Also, he puts random questions on the exam which you haven't even learned which is kinda unfair. In my opinion, he isn't worth it because you won't get an A unless you study a lot
extremely rude to students. tests are hard because there is random things that he discussed on class which is impossible to remember. good reviews are from online classes. the in person quizes are super hard to pass
A lot of the good ratings are from when this class was online. In person, Tormey's tests are hard af. You have to memorize a lot of vocab as well as concepts for his tests and finals. Otherwise, he is an ok professor.
Patrick Tormey is a legend! Took him in the winter session and its expected to be a lot harder but man he is so entertaining and informative. Yes it is a hard class but his quizzes are very doable and not hard to pass if you study. It is crazy to complain about this man because he helps your grade so much. You will do great and will have a laugh.
Excellent professor. I took him in the winter and we managed to go over 20 chapter's of content with ease. His satirical jokes are worth attending the lectures and the tests are very easy. Video's shown were intriguing. He's not a professor for lazy people who expect to not show up to class and get an above average grade in the course.
The professor is a very good lecturer (although I found the content boring). However, he has a very pessimistic attitude which can be frustrating. And he is also a petty grader.
Professor Tormey is overall great. Our class is in-person on winter session, but he kindly makes the second and the final tests online, which makes it much easier for us. You can still easily earn a 90+ on in-person exam as long as you put effort in it to remember the slides. (Except for the final, the final exam can be very tough!)
Tormey is the best of the best. He loves Baruch and introduces us to all of the terms of business that we will need to know to succeed. His videos make the class even better.
After graduating from Regis, my family and I decided to attend a public college and chose Baruch. BUS 2000 is required and must me taken by all students and I am so glad that I wound up with Professor Torrey. He is smart, very well versed, always prepared, and plays great videos to support his interesting chapter lectures. What a great experience!
His class is super entertaining. I had him in the winter and in just 3 weeks we learned everything we needed to for the entire course. This man is hilarious and genuine. If you pay attention, your literally golden for the tests which are super easy. Take him if you need the credit done!
Probably the easiest class you will take in Baruch College. 3 quizzes-40 questions each. They are extremely easy if you remember the definitions on his slides. He drops the lowest quiz. 1 final. No homework.
3 quizzes, 1 chance for extra credit, but drops the lowest quiz grade. the quizzes and final are based on chapters from the textbook, so take notes. you take your own attendance on blackboard and there is no hw. it's a very easy class if you read.
Very easy class as long as you pay attention. Prof. explains slides well. Exams are clear and material is straight from what we learn and watch in class. 3 quizzes 20pts each with lowest grade dropped and final worth 25 pints is all ur graded off of. He is a great professor but be careful when u pick up a recitation prof. Avoid Moutran at all costs
He mainly reads off of his slides. Pay attention when he doesn't read from the slides because his tests include those things. Study the slides and don't ignore the graphs. Remember the names and actions of people in the videos for tests. The final is MANDATORY, and recitation is 35% of your grade. You'll feel like a dictionary, but it's manageable.
Tormey puts a lot of effort into this class and has a great blackboard web site with all that you need to know in order to succeed. During class he plays interesting videos on things like NFT's, Cryptocurrencies, cloud storage and many others. You will LOVE this class and learn a lot too.
He is amazing! Super nice and understanding. My lecture was with about 300 people, but I always talked to him after class he is so sweet. the tests are sooo easy, if you get any answer wrong and talk to him after class he'll remind you of the correct answer so its easier to remember next time. 11/10!!!
He gives 5 online tests (only four are graded). He reads off the slides in class but he also shows super interesting videos that are actually really cool. I would def. recommend him for BUS2000. the only thing to be careful about is the recitation prof you have with his bus2000 class.
He's a pretty chill guy, didn't really talk to him directly but I heard that he was nice and funny. Overall, attendance is key towards getting a good grade--the videos he plays and what he mentions outside of slides are on the quizzes. Otherwise, learn the terms from the slides and you should be good. Attendance is mandatory as he puts up a code.
Was at an A-, emailed him about my recitation grade being recorded wrong hoping it would bump me up to an A, and I realized later it wouldnt. However, I think due to the conversation I had w/ him, he bumped me up to an A being that I was only 0.25 points away from an A. 3 quizzes, drops the lowest one, final is mandatory. Great prof, take him!
Professor Tormey, is the best BUS 2000 professor to take on campus. You don't feel like you're stuck in class and don't want to be there. His lectures are simple and enjoyable (funny). He provides the powerpoints online, but pay attention and take notes on all topics while you're in class. Questions will appear on the exam based on his lectures!
Professor Patrick is absolutely wonderful! His classes are always filled with warmth and encouragement. He explains things so clearly. Thanks for making learning such a joy!
Super nice professor. Chill old guy, he reads the slides really fast but if you read them carefully on your own theyre very helpful. Quizzes are online, final too. He just wants students to pass the class.
YOU. LEARN. SO. MUCH. This class was very interesting because of the videos he shows. The class itself is pretty easy, show up and do the 3 exams. Attendance is mandatory, he gives a code during class which you must submit on Blackboard before 5 PM. Wonderful Professor!
A lot of these good reviews are remote reviews. In person he's extremely unpleasant and will take points off for anything. Exams require a lot of reading and memorization as they were quite tedious. If you study you will get a good grade, but this class was not fun to be in.
BUS 2000 class was super simple, and Thormey was a great professor. The class consisted of lots of slides and actually interesting videos. Quizzes and exams were online but in-person. The exams were all based on the video and slides, and no textbook or outside info was needed at all.
Professor Tormey makes this class quite enjoyable. The lectures are clear, and the videos he shows are really engaging. With a little effort, you'll learn a lot. Unstuck study was super helpful for quiz prep too.
Took him during the winter it was super doable just pay attention to class and take notes , reviewing the slides is enough the do well on the exams, exams also mentions videos show in class so memorize it, pretty easy but was just graded on a few things and the REC part of the course averages your grade down (it's a department thing though).
He is the best, it is a safe A.
He has a clear and fair grading system, making it easy for students to understand how they will be evaluated. The course includes 3 quizzes, with the lowest score dropped, and a final exam. There are no homework assignments. Performing well in your recitation sessions is key to combine to his lecture and achieve an A.
Prof Tormey is a wonderful professor, and his class is informative and interesting. We learned all of the important business terms and watched some great videos as well. Overall, an outstanding educator.
3 quizzes and 1 final. lectures are super-fast and he speaks from his slides. the textbook is his slides, DON'T BUY TEXTBOOK.
Easy B without any effort. Requires attendance, three exams (one dropped) and a final. Boring lectures, if you actually pay attention then you'd only need to pay attention to the videos he shows in class because the exams ask a lot of questions about them. Easy to find videos online if you don't go to class though. Older guy but seems nice enough.
Gave 3 quizzes and a final, lowest test score was dropped (final not included). Most of his lecture is him reading off slides and watching 10 min videos every lecture. Slides contained highlighted text which was key info for his quizzes along with the videos shown in class. He's a great guy who really wants his students to pass.
Professor Tormey is good professor, have clear grading criteria. Drop the lowest grade of the quiz. During semester you will take 3 quizzes and one final exam. The lecture based on Power Points Slides and there is no point and need to purchase textbook. The quizzes created based on PP slides and T/F questions. Would suggest and take him again.
Professor Tormey was a great professor to have he goes over the slides 4 exams, 3 exams, and one final; drop the lowest. Most of the questions were T and F, and multiple choice, he has an attendance question, and every lecture has video; write down the video it will help for the exam.
Take him!! Your entire grade consists of two exams and a final. His exams are very straightforward. Review the slides he posts on brightspace and watch the YouTube videos and you should be able to get an A in the class.
Best professor to take. Wonderful lecturer, he keeps a class of over 200 kids entertained all lecture long. You will learn a lot of real world stuff as opposed to a textbook.
A great professor with great humor. His class consisted of 3 Quizzes. 2 out of the 3 he'll take. A final exam. He provides the textbook in his lecture slides. I enjoyed his class and I hope everyone who takes his class will.
great professor, he is down to earth and very caring. 3 quizzes but dropped the lowest, the final was online. no homework, recitation covers that aspect of it. take him, you won't regret it
Lectures were mandatory because he wouldn't upload the videos he would play in class so be sure to take notes on the videos. Otherwise, straightforward grading policy, answers emails fast, and no homework. Quizzes are exams are based on his slides and the videos.
The professor reads off slides but also provides interesting videos. Exams were online and super easy. I never went to class, only reviewed the slides and watched the videos (they're on youtube) and passed.
Chill old guy. Pay attention to his lectures, or don't... attendance is taken by a code on Brightspace. Take that as you will. Exams are online, in class, and when you submit it, it counts as attendance as if you were in the room. Final was also like this.
Going into Professor Patrick Tormey's BUS2000 class the experience was exactly as the reviews had stated. Honestly a really hilarious and interesting professor. He reads off his slides and plays videos in class with some additional funny commentary that keeps the class from dozing off. 3 exams (picks 2 with the highest score) and a final.
Professor Tormey is extremely passionate and wants all of his students to succeed! His grading criteria is unambiguous; 60% of your grade is from lecture (3 quizzes, lowest dropped, and a final), 32% of your grade is from recitation, and 8% is from SAM Excel projects. Easy to do well if you pay close attention to his lectures. Would take again!
Easy class Easy A. Just know there is grade deflation. Only 10 percent of the class is allowed to get an A, dont ask why I dont know. Easiest professor from what I heard.
The professor reads from the slides for each class. All the exams and finals are online . There is NO Connect, but SAM needs to be completed for part of your grade.
7 Assignments in the 14 weeks all were open at start of course should not take longer that 20 minutes every other week. Would take him again.
TORMEY is the best of the best. You learn so much over the semester that he actually makes you "love the world of business." Take him if you can and you will not regret your decision.
Light class, everything is based off the powerpoint for class and the videos. He just reads off the slide and the exams are taken on computer in person.
One of the best business professors. Coursework was light and most of the grade comes from the lecture portion and the exams which weren't too difficult. He tends to go through slides fast but is very knowledgeable on the world of business.
Take Tormey for Business 2000! It is very lecture-heavy, but he makes it interesting by telling little jokes, or funny examples, etc. The tests are online and very easy; it is not a hard class if you pay attention. He is nice, respectful, and responds to emails quickly outside of class. He genuinely wants us to succeed and learn something.
Prof. Tormey is the best for BUS 2000. Lectures are easy to follow. He makes jokes in lectures which are nice touches lol. Exams have 40 questions. Four exams, lowest of the first three is dropped. The fourth exam counts regardless of score. He wants you to learn as much as you can and take something from this course. 5/5 Professor!
Very laid-back class! He follows the slides and posts all materials online, plus shows interesting videos to explain concepts. Quizzes and the final are 40 questions taken in class. He's strict about academic integrity but overall the course is manageable.
