I took this class online and I think have been a lot easier if I had taken in a class. If I were good at math I would not have needed this class. He is quick to respond to questions and quizes and tests go with what you do in the book. If you can not make it to a campus than I would recommend his class online, but it is harder to learn this way.

Lectures are very easy to understand. Very down to earth. Likes to make sure everyone gets the concepts down. Will go over homework problems in class. Grades fairly, and gives good partial credit. Excellent math teacher. Younger teacher closes the generational gap. Good sense of humor.

He's a cool teacher, but his tests are SUPERLY hard. You actually need to study and do your homework and also pay attention to what's written on the bored because he usually says what types of questions are on the test. :)

I took his MATH 100B 8 week course online. The class was easy as long as you practice the chapter quizzes on the book. We got quizzed every week with a mid-term and final. He is very helpful! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Ive never done well in math until i took professor villa. He is extremely good at what he teaches and makes sure the entire class understands the material no matter how long it takes. the quizzes are based on the previous nights homework so make sure you do it. the final is the only test of the semester, everything else is homework and quizzes.

Prof. Villa is great! I took him for both of my pre-calculus classes, and the way he teaches makes the material easy to understand. Homework is optional, but HIGHLY recommended because he gives quizzes every day. I got As, which I never imagined possible before, and I actually understood the material. I have never gotten an A in math, but he made it possible. Homework is mandatory, but that's a good thing because that's where the exam questions come from.SO if you can do all the assignments you can get an A on the exams. And don't be late you might miss a quiz. There is one for every exam. Really goes out of his way to help his students.

Paces the class according to the level of understanding of students. He will not move ahead if student's are struggling. You have to make it known, though, or he will assume you know it. He explains things clearly, will answer any quest. HW is graded, can be substantial, but it helps u learn. Pop quizzes for each ch. Let's u drop a test. Take him!

THE Best Math Teacher ever. Highly recommend him. his explaining is crystal clear. I was always confused about Trig before but since i took his class, things are clear in my mind. he keeps a waiting list, so if his class is full, send him an email, he will take it into consideration.

I have to warn about this teacher. First, tests are hard, at least for MATH 127. Many students struggle. Second, a LOT of homework, and I mean- A LOT!! Third, he has weird way of teaching when he gives you the material without much lecture, you have to do homework, fail, then he will try to explain. Homework is graded.

Took online & loved it. He responds within the hour sometimes less. The program you use is fantastic.I haven't taken math in 20 yrs the program just reinforces everything, explains every step and what u still don't get he clears up. I wish he taught all the sections!! I preferred this over going to a class.

He really knows how to break things down and he is very understanding. Hes also friendly. If you dont test well though, hes not a good choice. Your grade is 60% and 40% final test.

An amazing teacher. Very well prepared, he definitely knows what he is talking about! On top of it all, if you don't can't understand, just ask, he gives great examples, and relates it to our daily life. I hate math; this class really changed my view. There is no mandatory attendence, but daily quizzes, which are big part of grade!

It seemed like it took me forever to get into a college level Math but I am so glad I was able to take Mr.Villa's Math 120. He was very clear about explaining everything. If he had to use the whole class time to explain homework then he will. He really cares about your success.

Great professor! He is kind, helpful and cares about his students' success. He relates the material to daily life, adds humor and makes it fun. The only downfall is that the daily quizes are 60% of the grade and the final is 40%. Though, if you work hard, do the HW and study, you should do really well!

Attendence isn't Mandatory, but it's one of those classes where not going means the difference of passing and failing. The grade is based on 4 tests and your homework where he drops the lowest score. Overall, he knows his stuff and knows how to teach the subject. It's not really an easy A, but you do have to try to fail.

Amazing teacher! After taking precalc 2 I hated math but after taking his class I loved it again. It's not an easy subject so it's not an easy class but he makes it manageable. Come to class and do the hw and everything should be fine. He always reviews hw problems and spends as much time as necessary explaining concepts.

When i rated Prof Villa on our eval, I blasted him for a few things like not much lecture time and doing only problems during class. The online class was easy to follow. There's homework and a quiz each week. The tests were tricky. After doing a practice test I felt confident, then the actual test was 10x harder. Also, no interaction with the professor, so you must be motivated.

He is nice and approachable. There were 6 test, the lowest grade will be drop. HomeWork is a PLUS, don't be afraid to ask if your answer is not the same on the book. He loves to talk; about the subject and he will explain it in a layman term until you undestand. Attendance is not mandatory but recommended for the pop quizzes. Practice is the KEY.

Took him for an online course. He did warn us that it's not going to be easy if this is our first time taking algebra. I took it anyways and found he was correct. The course material is great, if you choose to use it all and spend time on it. Listen to what he says and you'll get through it! On another note, I heard he loves CUBAN CIGARS.

Difficult subject matter, but Mr. Villa did a wonderful job at breaking down every subject and making sure everyone understood what we were doing and why. Younger students may not appreciate his techniques and may instead complain about the subject matter (which was difficult). If not for this teacher, I would have failed the class. Great teacher!

The class was difficult, like all classes online. Some students complained about him when they realized he wasn't giving out easy A's, like at the University of Phoenix. I worked hard and asked questions again and again and he helped me so much by email. If you're lazy, don't take him. If you're willing to work, you'll be fine.

Mr. Villa is a fantastic teacher. I took this class on campus. He was very thorough when explaining each step. You meet twice a week and have a quizzes. Basically if you do your homework, you will definitely pass your quiz.

Professor V was very helpful. He always responded to emails and his instructions are clear. There is tedious homework online but there was only 1 test and a quiz each week.

This teacher is great. Calc 1 is really challenging, so you have to be willing to put in a lot of effort outside of class. If you don't do this, you're gonna have a bad time. Do all the homework! Exams are extremely tough, but he is really forgiving on grading. If you're having trouble, just visit during his office hours. He'll definitely help.

One of the best professors I've ever had. He was extremely patient and was able to teach concepts in such a way that they were easy to understand. DO YOUR HOMEWORK...DUH! I saw the comments about e-mails but I had a different experience; he seemed responsive. A lot of students, including me, are planning to take more of his classes in the future.

I also had Patrick for MATH 181, and it was nothing short than great! :D Tests can be a little on the difficult side, but aren't all tests? The homework helps a lot, do it as much as you can! He doesn't lecture much, but spends more than 80% of the class helping students with their homework. If you are a lecture junkie, go take Martin or Duke.

Patrick Villa is the Socrates of Mathematics. His only flaw is that his explanations leave you dumbfounded. His tests will enable you to succeed in any class. Great math mind. Explains clearly. Do the homework, all of it, and you will pass. I'm math dumb, I got a b. First test is CRAZY HARD. study for it. Second and third tests were easier but still hard. Do the hardest review problems and you will be OK. Class went over 10 minutes everyday. Sucked needing to get to unlv, but still not miss anything.

I took this over summer& while it was difficult, it was nothing less than I expected. Definitely spend the extra $20 to get the hard copy of the book it helps a ton when the example problems aren't clear enough. This is an online math class people you will have to teach yourself some& what you put into the work, is what your going to get out of it

He's a good teacher I learned a lot. I would take him again. The test are are hard but will prepare you for your future classes. I dont know why the two comments below have him as a bad teacher. Hes good but will not gift you an A so easily.

I took Calc2 at UNLV and had no idea what was going on, I took this course at CSN and I was actually learning the material. He is a good instructor and tries to help his students understand the material and will tutor you in his office if you need help. I recommend taking him for Calc. Beware of UNLV as their department is horrible!

I took him for math 181 for the fall 2016 semester. He was a pretty good teacher and I enjoyed his lessons. The class is very difficult and the homework is time-consuming, so just make sure you know what you're signing up for. He makes sure to remind you when your tests are, and goes over any questions afterwards. Nice guy.

Summer online class had 8 homework assignments, 8 quizzes and a final exam. All questions on the quizzes and the final were from the exercises on the book (just different numbers) so if you keep working on the exercises until you understand you can get A. 1 index card sized cheat sheet is accepted for the final so dont need to memorize formulas.

Great teacher had him for Calc 2. Makes clear what is you need to know for test, spends extra time if needed to explain any questions or problems any students are having. There are 4 test you drop one including the final, so if you pass the first 3 and are happy with your grade no need to take the final. Over all great professor.

4 exams, you can drop one, and multiple assignments where you go over test problems for easy points. Mr. Villa tries to make Calculus as clear as possible, answering every question he gets. The textbook is super cheap. Make sure to practice the old exams on his website and ask lots of questions. Do the assignments, and you can pass this class.

If you are taking him for Math 251 ignore all the other reviews. We had only one pop quiz and it was on arguably the easiest material (Venn Diagrams of sets). The majority of test questions are very similar to homework questions or problems done in class. A lot of them are taken from the book. In general I would say the is easier than calc.

Ignore the other reviews. This one is the most honest. Its a passable class and the material is understandable. However you have to be ready to put 8 hours a week with lectures, homework and quizzes. The final exam is bad, if you watched all the lectures and did all the homework. YOU MUST STAY ON TOP OF YOUR WORK, then your A will come.

I've heard Discrete Math can be hard, but Professor Villa made it seem easy! As with any math class, you have to practice to get familiar with the content. Overall, he is lenient with grading exams and our only pop quiz was based on completion. However he does take a moment to grade things, which is stressful when its near the end of the semester.

In this class, you must put in the work. Homework has a lot of questions, though you don't get graded on it. You need to finish a percentage of the homework to take the weekly quiz. Professor Villa's lectures were helpful in understanding the material. Business calc is difficult sometimes, but as long as you put in the work, you can pass.

He's very lenient on test grading, giving lots of partial credit. Just make sure to study. Math 251 has challenging topics so make sure not to zone out during his lectures. He's passionate about teaching math 251 and making sure that you understand, responding to emails pretty quickly. Don't be afraid to ask questions in his class. He's awesome.

Professor Villa is awesome. He's a very approachable guy and explains things very well. He is clear and consise with his explanations and always encourages students to ask questions. For those saying that he's dull or snubs his students, they couldn't be further from the truth. If I could take another one of his classes again, I easily would!!

Grading was very simple: 3 tests, a final, and all homework, lowest score dropped, and 4 things weighed equally. Meaning if you did well enough, you could skip finals. Really good professor, he explained things so clearly, he would make sure EVERYONE was on track, you can not go wrong choosing him for any math course. Homework every day.

Calc II is already hard, but he encourages students to go further. Lectures go from introductory examples to difficult homework problems. No supplements, just the textbook & homework for test prep. You can drop the lowest test score + no deadline for homework. He is nice & always willing to help. Attendance isn't required but important to do well.
