Does not bull****, he keeps you interested through every lecture. Makes the blandest subject fun with a great sense of humor, makes ample time available during office hours. Huge level of class participation. You'll wish that every prof taught as well.
great guy makes the class interesting but has a hard marking scheme
Really hard marking scheme but helpful and cool
I love this man.
If you read the books and come to class, you will do good in his class. Very interesting prof. Good teaching style makes for a great class!
He exects you to work... This guy is probably THE COOLEST PROF EVER and ppl are always complaining b/c he wants them to thing and be engaged... NO PROF will ever put themselves out to help you as much as him. Tons of office hours, TONS of patience
Loves his work, loves teaching, and you'll love being there. He makes the class worth it with a great sense of humor, keeps you interested and involved. Available one on one a lot, always around to help out. I loved being taught by him! As long as you read the text book/attend class, you'll be fine.
Do yourself a favour, and learn from this man- he is so kind, and so inspiring, and if you show an interest he'll go the extra ten miles to help you out. Anth majors- take his classes!
I love this prof... he makes anything interesting. As long as you keep up with the readings, you'll be fine. Essay tests that just ask for bs... really easy course.
If you keep up with the readings, you will do well. Oh and also, this class was writing intensive. Great Prof.
Great Prof - made class interesting.
shares name with weezer's drummer. I have such a crush on him despite the pony tail (and his wife). Amazingly nice guy who loves his work, class is great the 75 minutes goes by so quickly. If you ever have a chance, take a class with him.
He is my favorite prof at the UofL!!! So interesting and kind. I am trying to take any class I can with him. Readings weren't overwhelming and the tests were easy. He is just the greatest prof ever. I don't want to take Anthro with anyone but him. Too bad he's married, he's perfect!
Read everything, and his classes are fairly easy.
Interesting class with relevant readings and texts. Exams are pretty straight forward. Some articles are hard to follow and verbose but overall I learned a great deal in this class. Excellent instructor who is open to class discussion and pushes you to think critically about the material presented.
Great prof. He doesnt use a textbook with straight out definitions in them. But instead uses a bunch of enthonographies (books) to give you a better feel of what anthropology is about. Dedicates class time to answer questions before exams, exams are fairly short and predictable. He is extremely passionate about is profession. yay for him!!
Wilson is awesome - funny, clear, and with easy tests to boot. He chooses good reading materials and the students who read all of it are the ones who get the good marks on tests (as in, the test questions are actually relevant.) He's also attractive in kind of a weird geek-chic sort of way... :)

WIlson is the best prof around, his lectures are actually relavent to the tests and 'real world'. For those of us who can take him definetly do it, lots of reading but easy testing!!
Best Anthro prof at the Uleth! op culture is the best anthro class at the Uleth. He is knowledgeable and he covers a wide variety of interesting topics from Denis Rodman to Disney movies. Interesting class especially for those just looking for a fun GLER. The tests are not difficult especially because you want to go to class.
Pats my fav teacher Ive ever had. Very slack, loves what hes teaching and knows what hes teaching. Very approachable and will explain anything you need.
I love this guy! If you're gunna take anthro 1000, you have got to have this guy as your prof. He has the greatest stories ever. His way of teaching is comedic and entertains us all. He is such a nice guy and knows what he is talking about. He never fails to make the class smile with one of his funny stories. He makes me like GLERS.
Patrick is a really good teacher. This class had lots of readings but they were interesting and if you keep up with them, you'll do good on the tests. I write everything he says in class and use my notes to do the take home tests. Really passionate about his work. I'd take another class with him again!
Great prof and finally a teacher with some easy tests. you still need to study but if you do you should get a high mark great guy and defenitly recomend him. gender class is a must take for anyone in any department
Easily the most passionate and best prof at the University! He is extremely approachable, interesting (during lectures and outside), and funny. Highly recommended!!
Very awesome teacher. Though he uses WAY too many readings and expects alot.
Awesome Prof, uses hilarious examples to wake the class up, sometimes boring material, easy readings, easy papers, although he has the grading scale higher than most classes..
was good. Stuff he teaches was boring, but easy marker. Read the book though. His grading scale is a bit off though.
very down to earth, funny, energetic. he loved to get the class involved. very helpful outside of class. even says hi in the hallways
Makes anthropology THE most interesting subject you will ever take.
he explains things well but is a very hard marker.expects alot, and be warned that his grading scale is a 10% difference from every other teacher in the school. For example67% is a D, not a c+, and for c's you need high 70's, b's high 80's, whereas b's are high 70's in other courses.keep that huge difference in mind and do EXTRA WEll on the tests.
Made me fall in love with Anthropology. Best teacher you could ever have. Passionate, intelligent, and a caring person. :)
An excelent instructor who makes the intro anthropology course exceptional. I would recommend him as an instructor to anyone.
Loved his class. Tests were fair assessments of learning and he basically told you what was on the test the day before it. A lot of reading but picks really interesting books. Grading scale a little hard but makes up for it with easy tests. Take this prof if you can.
Great prof, super nice and enthusiatic. His slides and lectures were really useful and easy to follow. His tests and essays weren't easy but he let you know what to expect. His grading system is a little tough but I would recomend him anytime!
We covered really interesting subjects in his class and I really enjoyed how he approached them. The tests were all essay format some take home and his marking was a little on the tough side. He did offer help outside of class looking at rough drafts to get people on the right direction. Reading text and notes was need to achieve a higher grade.
Great prof, very enthusiastic about what he is teaching. Switches up how the material is taught: power point, group discussion, lecture, movies, which is an awesome idea. His grading scale is very high but he is happy to go over your test with you to make sure you are on the right track. Awesome prof.
Passionate about anthropology and has a good sense of humour. Provided powerpoints in advance. Lots of reading and it best to do the reading before class. Patrick is very approachable and open to other views. Exams were easy but he adjusted the rating; you needed 60% to pass but not tough to achieve.
I have had Patrick for three courses now - best prof out there. His tests are fair (4 written, choose 2 - 1 page of MC) and the questions are extremely well written. 2-3 papers. Powerpoints are awesome. Organized. THE BEST. take any class form him you can! letter grades are hard though.
Good class, interesting prof BUT his grading scale is horrible!! It is causing my entire GPA to go down. I should have a better grade but because of his stupid grading scale my mark is lower than all of the rest!
Took 1000 and Anthro of Gender with him. A really good teacher, makes the stuff you learn as interesting as possible. However the tests and papers are only out of 30 marks which made it hard to get a good grade since his scale was insane. Also he may be the only male feminist in the entire world.
Very awesome teacher. He is very interesting to listen too and keeps his lectures fresh. If you were looking for a good class, his is definatly one of them!
One of the best profs out there. Keeps lectures interesting, good sense of humour, and always willing to answer questions. I would definitely recommend taking his classes.
Beware of the grading scale. For example, a B- is an 81-82. Other than the high grading scale, he is an amazing prof--extremely engaging and full of character. In his short answer questions, tie as many concepts as possible and you will do fine. Also, read the books their interesting and useful for exams.
Excellent prof, with a really high grading scale. I had an 89% and only achieved a B+. Explains everything thoroughly, answers questions well and the classes are always very interesting. Exams are usually a page of MC and 1-2 short answer, but if you read the texts an review, they're very easy. Great prof overall!
Really interesting lectures. I didn't even know what anthropology was when i registered for the class. Now I have interest and appreciation for the field. I thought the tests were really easy and some of the questions on it actually made me laugh out loud. Only problem is the grade scale is really hard.
High grading scale but it is not hard at all to achieve a good mark. Has powerpoint presentations that explain key terms that are also posted online for people who missed the notes. He made the course interesting and funny. He explains everything thoroughly and even gives a study sheet for exams.
He made no sense when he talked, his tests were brutal, gave us too much to read every week & not very interesting material either. Mean. Grading scale was ruthless. Why? I bombed the final and was below the passing mark by 1.5, if I went into a different anthro class that same semester with a different prof & I would have passed with that mark.
Class was supposed to be on race and ethnicity, but instead was composed of his own pet interests. No really global understanding of race or ethnicity was established. Focus was almost entirely on colonial or postcolonial contexts. Undue focus on South America to 'illustrate' (poorly) bigger concepts. Felt like a history course a lot of the time.
Excellent Professor. His grading scale is hard, but he is an easy marker. Readings and Class attendance are mandatory to get a B in the class. Usually MC and written mid-terms. Extremely passionate professor. Took him for 4 anthro courses.
He was my absolute favourite prof. I was a little worried when I read some of the comments about his grading scale, but his tests are extremely easy to make up for it (if you do the reading, shouldn't take you very long). He's also very approachable, nice, and funny - makes the class so interesting! If you're going to take anthro, take it with him!
Patrick was by far my favourite prof, he made the class very fun and interesting. The tests were very easy and the information covered in the class was all that appeared on the test not like other classes where some information on the tests came out of the blue. if you were going to take anthropology i would strongly suggest you take it from him.
Great teacher.
An amazing professor. I have always struggled with the concept of culture and i was fascinated at how much i understood after taking his class. Grading scale is hard but it is not hard to get a good mark if you study and he makes learning easy. Not to mention, he's not bad to look at. :) Definitly recommend him as a prof.
Patrick is really funny and easy to listen to. Read the books he gives and take notes other then just the powerpoint he gives you. His marking scale is hard but if you study and pay attention, you won't have any issues. He also shows movies and other things to keep things interesting.
Lets see... He is passionate about his job, extremely clear, very organized, interesting, easy to listen to, funny, easy grader, helpful, very smart, makes a great subject even more interesting, has great examples, good tests, good papers. All around a great class and a good guy. 100% recommend.
Good teacher but grading scale very difficult, took his class a second time around to improve mark and ended up with an even lower letter grade then the first time, yet 10% higher. Not fair as I worked hard to achieve that.
Patrick is probably the best prof I've had at the University. Grading scale is high but he is an easy marker, and the supplemental media he brings to the course is fantastic.
as long as you go to class and write down what he says there is no need to read the books. he summarizes what is important to know in them, which leads to what the test questions will be based on. tests are short & he marks very easy on them. grade scale is different than most
Really broadened my perspective. Super interesting class and always makes sure he's clear about concepts. Great choice in film/reading materials. Has a high grading scale, but it's not hard to achieve a good mark in his class. Attend class and take good notes. Talk to him after if still confused; he's super helpful.
i have the biggest crush on this professor ;) he's so nice, amusing and easy to listen to. he tries to make class as interesting as possible, which i really appreciate. he really does go over each reading in class, so all you have to do is take a few notes and you'll do fine in this class. amazing prof
He is incredibly interested in the Amazon, and it shows in his classes. He has a high grading scale (59% is a fail) but he marks easy so it works out. In class reading checks make going pretty much mandatory. Also, the guy is hilarious.
I love this prof. He's interesting, funny, well organized, easy to get a hold of and his tests are extremely relative to what his lectures are on. You don't have to read the material, although it might help, but you do have to go to class, especially his review sessions, which are very helpful.
Easily, the best professor I have ever had! What an awesome guy! Easy class. Easy exams. And yet, I have learned more in his class than in any other class I've ever taken. The books are easy reads, and best of all, his lectures are very light, and he is very funny. Avoid his class only if you hate yourself! Lol
Patrick fortunately made this class bearable for me because I was so bored by the material. He is charismatic and fun to listen to. If it was any other prof I don't think I would have done well. The tests are EASY! My friend never even read the books and scored a B+.
LOVED HIM! He made the course so interesting I changed my major to anthropology. Attend class and you will get a great grade.
Made anthropology very interesting. First class, he explained how South American tribes made shrunken heads.. in detail. Totally awesome.
Patrick is an amazing prof. He is incredibly knowledgeable, and a great lecturer. His tests are reasonably easy and fair. Recommended.
Patrick is a very good professor. There is quite a lot of readings but they really allow you to do well on the tests. If you never need help he is very approachable and will do everything that he can to you help you get a good mark. I highly recommend him.
By far the best Anthro prof at the university. Highly recommend taking any class he teaches. The topics are interesting and he is awesome. Did an independent study with him this semester, and it was one of the best classes I have taken at the university. Really interesting stuff.
Patrick is a great prof. He would kind of get pissy about people not reading the material. He knew exactly who was not reading because he can track using moodle. So I advise future students to read & participate in discussion with him or it will be the most ackwardly silent class ever.
This class was alright. I think the exams were marked a little too hard or the grading scheme was a bit steep but I enjoyed the class.
Super interesting lectures and he explains all the reading in class so reading isn't necessary but the materials assigned are super insightful. Cool class, cool guy. Tests are easy as he provides studying points before. Great prof.
Race and Ethnicity with Patrick was one of the best courses I have taken so far at uLeth. Yes, there is a fair amount of readings and yes he does give pop quizzes. But honestly the readings for the most part are very engaging. He's a very supportive professor and wants you to get an A, he is more than willing to help - just ask
Patrick is such a good prof.. Coming from someone who hates social sciences, I would say he does a good job of making class interesting. He clearly loves what he does and is more than willing to help you succeed. His main interest is students doing as well as they can and he will do all in his power to help.
Wilson was a great prof and for the most part, has a relaxing teaching style. He is very passionate about his work and is accessible outside of class if you need some extra help.
This class was so easy! Patrick literally explains everything so well and efficiently. You have to try to fail because he is such a good professor! Ngl, some of the concepts were so obvious but he gives study guides, tests are easy, and he doesn't move on until he feels the class understands. I learned so many things and got a GPA booster from this
Gives good lectures and is fun to listen to
Patrick is the most passionate teacher I've ever had, he is easy to listen to and gives a variety of examples to deepen understanding. His tests are based on the readings and films in class which can be hard because some of the books were boring or interpreted it differently. Overall, great guy, funny and smart prof. I would take his class again.
Patrick is such an inspiring prof who goes above and beyond to help his students do well. This class was full of readings that he provided via moodle and 1 book, though some were long and boring, he summed every reading in class which helped A LOT, come finals (which are take home essays). Overall, a great prof, and I'd love to take another class.
I took Indigeneity with Patrick. He always encouraged us to understand the readings and I'm glad he did. Weekly papers, but it was a once a week course so it's understandable. He tries to split the big final paper up into sections to encourage students to think more about it before its due and I was so grateful for it! I will always recommend him!
Patrick is the best! Highly recommended!
Good prof with straightforward exams. He provides clear expectations and helpful discussions of topics!
Patrick is super passionate about his field and is willing to answer any question you may have. If you are going to take this class take it with Patrick. His tests are easy and his lectures easy to understand, but you do need to show up to class to get the material to write his MC tests which are easy. His written tests (OL) are harder and lengthy.
This was my favourite course because of how good of a prof Patrick is! I can not recommend this course enough!
Patrick has no secrets in this class. he obviously wants you to succeed and lays it out right in front of you. His lectures can be slightly monotone and dry but he does teach very well. The readings were alright. First book I loved was super interesting and the second was the complete opposite. I honestly dreaded picking it up.
Patrick Wilson taught this class rather perfectly! Yes there was quite a bit of reading but it really did help out with question son the test. You could tell that all he wanted to do was make sure everyone passed and did well. That being said, if you did not watch the short films or read the chapters the test would be rather difficult to answer.
Amazing professor! Gets the material across really well and gives exact study guides to the exam. There is no way to fail this class. He's very funny and has a dry sense of humour that makes the class enjoyable. I would recommend any course with him!
Patrick really cares about his students, and wants to make sure they understand the class content and succeed. His dry humour makes lectures enjoyable.
Patrick loves the subject matter and loves to teach it. Very clear lectures + documentaries are amazingly helpful for studying for your only 3 quizzes of the semester, worth ~33% of your grade each. Optional extra credit and his passion means that everyone should take his class at least once.
Patrick is an amazing professor and has very interesting lectures. Although most people won't find the books that he assigns interesting, it's important to read them and they're really not that bad. For the most part his tests are very easy and he has an extra credit opportunity which is easy to do to get an extra five points.
Great class but we were expecting the real actor, Patrick Wilson. So if that is who you are looking for, do not take this class.
Great professor. One of the smartest guys I've ever heard. He is so passionate about anthropology. Highly recommend taking his class. His dry humour is really funny.
My last review got deleted because I said that he blames white men for all of society's problems, which he does. He's definitely not a terrible teacher, but his classes are fairly boring. We had to read articles before class, and then he would talk about them in class, which was pretty useless.
Took his class as a lib ed requirement based off the positive reviews here, which I regret doing. We were graded based off two large essays and four writing assignments. The essay questions were vague with no clear grading criteria provided, and my second essay received no feedback. Would not recommend unless you're passionate about the subject.
Patrick is an amazing prof. Anth 1000 is a fairly easy class as long as you do the readings and pay attention in class. Sometimes class was canceled to just watch a video at home on our own time which was nice. The class consisted of 3 exams worth 35%, 35%, and 30%. You can tell he loves what he teaching about which makes the class fun.
He is the best.
Patrick was a great professor and his lectures were structured very well. You can tell he is very passionate about anthropology which makes the class much more enjoyable. Easy to succeed in the class if you keep up with the readings and focus in lectures. Cares about his students and very kind.
My favourite professor! He def cares about his students & their understanding of the material
Great professor, he has lot of stories, and makes lots of dad jokes. its helpful to do the reading and takes notes on it as it will help you understand what's going on in the lecture, and do better on the exam. If you don't do the reading you will struggle. all the notes are online, and class is often in person.
I have taken 3 courses with Patrick and hopefully will take more in the future. Anthropology is not my major but Patrick is by far my favourite professor at the University of Lethbridge. Students who are academically motivated and show up to every class will do excellent. Lots of reading and writing, but he is very caring to his students.
The professor is passionate about the subject and makes the material engaging. Doing the readings and attending class are key to doing well. unstuck AI is a great supplemental study tool for exam prep.
No textbook, just readings. Gives you the tests before you write it under time constraint because it's written. If I remember correctly you even get a cheat sheet... 500 word assignment every week based on readings but he only takes 5 highest grades so you don't have to submit each week. I can't see how you could pass if you don't show up to class.
