He is pretty cool, laid back. One research paper is given but you can turn it in whenever you want. For one test he lets you use a note card. He's pretty cute too.
he is really cool, there is plenty of extra credit you can do, he doesnt push his opinion down your throat. he truly is dedicated to politics.plus hes not too bad looking:)
he's a real nice guy, very helpful and you can tell he loves everything to do with govt. but the real reason to take his class? he's incredibly HOT!.. :)
This prof is really down to earth. He doesn't influence any political opinions on you. Passionate about what he does. Attend class and look over his review and you'll easily get an A.
Really nice and helpful teacher, teaches with powerpoint and it helps alot. Review is easy to study and test are not hard. I really recommend.
Agree with all that is said. I had him for DC & he gave us topics to review everytime before a test and got to take a index card during the test. Very kind and likes to involve the whole class to participate and help eachother out.
Class is easy, he is nice, and the note card on the test is a plus.
He is a wonderful professor. His reviews are straightforward and the tests are not difficult whatsoever as long as you study. Bless his heart, he tries to be funny. Overall, I recommend him. Easy A.
He was an EXTREMELY helpful teacher. I really enjoyed his class much more than I thought I would and actually wanted to take another when it was done. His lectures are well constructed, his tests are reasonable, and he himself is a very reasonable man. He tries to engage the class as much as possible and raise discussion often. Highly recommended.
First semester, he was a great teacher. The overall class was a good experience. During second semester, he lost it. He stopped being helpful and he became spiteful toward his class. After this semester and how he treated the class, I would tell prospective students to run in the other direction of his class.
He was very good and great the first course I had him but for govt 2 he had failing and drop outs. I wonder what happen. Got a A in 2301 and C in 2302
Took his online government class. He was very helpful, communicated well. Class is very easy just do the work, study and read.
He seems nice but graded my paper very harshly. I cant believe that I scored my first c in a undergrad course.
Very very harsh man, am lucky I passed with my B. My first B and govt supposed to be one of the easy college courses.I don't recommend this professor.
First semester works like a charm with him. its very easy and all seems well. However second semester He brought out the big guns. He graded tests so harshly and he favors students who have 100% attendance in his class, and never miss an assignment. Doesn't accept late work and he locks you out if your late to class. Highly recommend not taking him
Very good teacher, learned a lot in his class. On the downside he grades EXTREMELY hard on the papers. He says he doesn't expect pulitzer prize work, but it seems like he does. I would suggest taking Comp II before taking this class or you will not get the grade you want.
He is a great government professor. I wish I would've taken him for the first half of govt because I definitely would have earned a better grade. He knows what he's talking about and the assignments are easy if you put the work into them. I wish he was teaching another course I'm required to take. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Very nice and reassuring but when it boiled down to the tests they were really hard definitely not straight from the notes!! He tells you your doing great all through the semester then at the end you dont have the grade you were expecting. I wouldn't recommend him!I WILL NOT be taking him again!!
Took online Texas Govt and dropped after 3 weeks. Terrible for online, he wouldn't post due dates till the middle of the week and at weird times like 8 AM on sunday. The module is messy and he didn't answer specific questions I had in asked in emails, resulting in my missing grades. Grades very hard, lots of writing. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Professor Amezcua was helpful whenever there was a question, and answered promptly. Gave good notes on the chapters, and as long as you have those and the book you're fine. Just do the work!!!
Not only will you enjoy his class, you will learn a lot! He teaches using his own power-points, not from the book (save you money) and which he will post the powerpoints on Blackboard. I really enjoyed his class and recommend to take it. You'll do great!
His online class is awesome. Very early he clears up exactly what you will be doing and when it's due. He puts up the next part of the course on time and gives plenty of time to do it. I would definitely recommend his class
Couldn't have asked for a better teacher! He explains well if you ask him, he is very clear, provided his own powerpoints and very little to no book use required! Want an easy A, choose him. Writing assignments were easier than expected and very short.
Overall he is a great professor. I took him for summer 5 week course and it was a bit challenging mainly because the writing assignments were every week. I had 2 other classes so the writing assignments took over my whole weekend. Kind of a serious guy, but looks very cute the few times he did smile. Recommend if not taking any other classes.
I took Mr. Amezcua as a full semester online summer course. It was fairly simple. 4-5 writing assignments, 4 lecture tests, no final exam. I passed with a B. Easy grader on papers if you actually try. Used the book a few times and it helped with the tests.
he is an okay professor. very clear with what he wants from students.. Gives plenty of extra credit. But not very understanding when it comes to our personal lives.
Took him during the summer expecting the class to be challenging. I've never been a fan of Government related subjects but his lectures made me interested and actually learned a lot in such little time. Lots of extra credit which is great! Not a professor who makes the semester miserable, do what you got to do & you should be fine.
Class was not that hard. He gives his lectures off of his PowerPoints , very interesting class. Only 4 essays , a midterm and a final. Showing up to class is important, he breaks down into detail over the PowerPoints posted on blackboard. I definitely recommend the class! He's funny and makes class feel like a breeze. Recommend the class!
There are many assignments due in such a short amount of time. Not only are there 4 test, a final exam and a paper but there are writing assignments due at the end of each week about an article. For one of our writing assingment he gave us the wrong articles, but still made us do the assignment over again. I'm a straight A student, but I got a C.
As someone who is only a few credits off from achieving my associates in physical science, he was the only professor I had problems with. He will ignore your emails if he does not like what you are questioning him. He is very hard to work with if you encounter a problem, if you don't keep insisting with emails he will rather fail you.
Is not helpful at all. Takes two weeks to grade assignments. He only gives six assignments the entire semester. If you're taking this at SJC-N take another professor; Holly Mulholland is an awesome teacher!
Class was boring.
im taking him for online. Its a super easy and laid back class. hes very organized. the only negative is he never responds to emails. im still in the process of taking him. His exams are so nice! only 40 questions and gives 90 mins to finish which is PLENTY of time! he gives a lot of extra credit so that's LEGIT!! and hes a very easy grader :)
I took the 8 week Govt 2306 online course, best decision ever! Very clear with what he expects. Gives extra credit, for the term paper he even extended the deadline because a couple of people in our class didnt turn in a paper. Overall, we had 4 writing assignments, 1 term paper, 1 test, and a final exam. PIECE OF CAKE! definitely recommend.
I actually to Professor Amezcua twice , once in lecture and once online . I love the way he organizes to course and he is really easy to follow. He's also pretty quick at answering questions through email and In class. His class made me decide to minor in Political Science
Dorky awkward but funny. Includes videos and extra material to help teach. Interesting lectures. I learned a lot in his class and am glad that I took it with him. WARNING: the tests are on the details. You may think he won't test you on it, but he will. When in doubt, write it down.
Professor Amezcua was hard because his tests were brutal. Even when you don't think it'll be on the test, write it down. His powerpoints won't have the details that are on his tests, so please pay attention in class and try to survive his monotone awkward-ness. He can be funny at times, and shows interesting documentaries, which I enjoyed.
I took this class online and over the summer.. super easy and laid back. My only complaint is that it takes him a day or two to reply to emails. He really worked with me when my test submitted itself TWICE due to bad wifi connection. He let me retake it both times. There is one topic paper (not hard and interesting) two test with plenty of time.
I took him for a summer class online, and he was fairly laid back. Most of the time, it was reading one chapter out of the textbook every week, and then sometimes doing a written assignment. Two tests, which were fairly difficult, and one term paper, which was fairly simple and had a good list of topics.
Amezcua takes about 2 weeks or longer to grade most things, and doesn't give a lot of assignments. Your grade will mostly come from attendance and the tests, but since he gives so little work it's a good idea to do well on all his assignments. Don't expect prompt grading or replies to your emails. He has an incredibly boring, monotone voice.
He's amazing! He provides links to free textbooks and the other books needed for reading are only a few dollars on Amazon. Lectures can be a bit long, but he makes sure you understand the important things. He tells you exactly what he's looking for on big assignments and offers a ton of extra credit. Plus, he makes the subject actually interesting!
Professor is awesome, real helps wherever he can. Not hard at all if you do the work. just study and follow his laid out plan and there will be no reason you cant get an A.
First of all, hes a very boring professor. Always talks in a monotone voice, & he recently ticked off a few because a couple of students came late & he locked the door. The students came @ 7:01 & class started at 7:00, so that was rude. Doesnt care if youre failing, and wants you out if youre an average person. Very Rude & wouldnt recommend.
I took Professor Amezcua for my winter mini. He offers a lot of extra credit opportunities, lectures heavy, and very punctual/disciplined.
Great professor overall. Professor gives plenty of chances to get extra credit and is fair! His lecturing style is different than what Im used to and I liked it! I would have loved to take him for 2305!
Professor Amezcua's monotone voice can be off-putting. However, his lectures are easy to follow and he presents the material in a way that makes sense. He is very understanding towards late work and forgiving of many mistakes. Would take his class again in a heartbeat.
SOOO EASY. Take this class ONLINE. Took this for an 8 week. Don't listen to negative comments; this is very laidback and you'll never have hard homework.
Everything in his class is straight forward. A few chapter exams that are easy if you read the book or use the resources given. Some small one page papers over some government issues. It was a 8-week mini
Amezcua was one of my favorite professors. His class isn't an easy A, you definitely have to pay attention in class and actually show up for it. He grades attendance, and the class is discussion heavy. His lectures are interesting, and he gives a decent amount of extra credit. He doesnt really assign any homework, but he expects you to read.
Great professor, however his lectures were pretty boring. If you fall asleep youll be kicked out. His exams were all online, but they are a bit difficult. TAKE NOTES. Most of the material will be on the exams. I never used the book, dont think youll need it. He also offers a lot of extra credit throughout the semester and it is pretty easy!
You will have tests and a few assignments. Test is required to be closed book and he will trust you not to google. Questions are hard, however , you can find pretty much everything in the book. He provides extra credit.
Fantastic teacher. Keeps his classes interesting and very fair with grading. Gives a large amount of extra credit.
Took as an 8 week online course and Prof A gave clear expectations and very organized. Just keep up with the reading. 3 exams 1 term paper 4 one page assignments Extra Credit
I took his 8-week course. What he requires you to do is very clear. I passed his class with an A. The A was very doable. I totally recommend him for government 1 and 2. The class was easy!
Requires you to log in daily. Test are not open he opens them only on certain days you cannot pace yourself and finish early you have to take the course at his pace.
Requires you to log in daily to show that you are actually participating in class. Test are not open he opens them only on certain days you cannot pace yourself and finish early you have to take the course at his pace.
Took this class over summer 3 week mini. Had 3 exams, 4 short assignments which were participation grades, 1 term paper. Easy A class if you do all your work. Do the practice exam and practice short assignment he will add extra points to first test. He wants you to get the book, but information can be found elsewhere. He also offers extra credit.
Really easy class. The only thing that was hard was the term paper, other than that It was fine
He responds to emails in a timely manner. He used an online textbook, so make sure you read it!
After being our of school for so long I was so scared to come back. Professor A. is very nice and will help you if you need further help. He gives extra credit which is very easy to do. I took his 8 week class. 3 test, 4 assignments and extra credit as well. He is very caring for students to pass take him you will not regret taking him.
I have took this professor before for another class and I just had to take him again because he explains things with great detail even through an online class. I have took other online classes but as long as you do the work which is not a lot, you will receive a good grade and if you are taking the face to face you must show up.
Aside from the term paper, the class was pretty smooth. He responded in a timely manner, the grading was fairly simple and he even gave us opportunities to receive extra credits. I definitely recommend Professor Amezcua for anyone taking an 8 week online government class.
Provides clear instructions. Gives few assignments so they affect heavily if you did not complete one. Lots of writing. Besides the test, all the assignments are papers.
I took this course online in a 3 week mini and it was fairly easy. the only downfall to his course is that there is only a few grades making them weigh more that normal. there is 4 short essays, 1 paper, and 3 test throughout the whole course. Overall do the work and you will pass.
He is really nice in my 5 week summer online class I had 4 short assignment which is like one page writing assignment super quick and 3 exams and 1 term paper. Pretty straight forward and laidback.
I was skeptical about this professor when I enrolled for this class because there was no ratings on him. I absolutely love him! He is so organized and on top of grading things! I missed an assignment and asked him if I could turn it in late and he told me to hold on to it because he was going to reopen the links. Definitely recommend him! <3
Do your self a favor, and a take Amezcua's government classes. I took his 8 week mini for gov 2305 and 2306 online. He posts his lectures and PowerPoints on blackboard, which are helpful. The workload is reasonable. His black board page is straight forward and easy to follow. He is quick to respond to emails. Do the work and you will do well.
Don't expect any feedback on written essays. He only grades them. Quizzes take long to grade, so even if you have unlimited tries- don't hold your breathe.
Recommend 100%. Very easy gov course. I took his mini course, about four 1 page essays, 3 tests and the final. Do the work and you will pass.
Professor Amezcua is a sweet professor! The class was technically online on a schedule but he always uploaded recorded lectures instead, which was a lot more convenient. There were 4 short assignments, 3 exams, several discussion boards, and 1 term paper. Everything is completely doable and not difficult. He takes particular note on your effort.
I took professor Amezcua for a mini class and I would totally recommend him! He was great at communicating, you can tell he really cares about helping you pass the class or understanding the material.
he was very condescending and lacked empathy. Though his exams were open for a week online with no lockdown browser his overall attitude for the class made the 90 minutes unbearable. He tells a story of a girl who got in a traumatic accident and still came to class like an inspiration instead of a sad story. Easy class if you do the required assign
Professor Amezcua was great or actually his class was great (8weeks). There were 4 short writing assignments, 3 exams, 1 term paper min 750 words choice on any Texas policy, and lots of reading. Little feedback on writing assignments or the term paper, exams had 2 attempts but can't see grade until after due date. Overall, easy A.
Professor Amezcua is an exceptional instructor and very knowledgeable about the subject. For a 3-week mini session, his agenda is very organized with concise and relevant comments. The amount of workload for his course is fair. I highly recommend Professor Amezcua and would definitely take his class again.
Get ready to read a lot! Class consisted of three timed 50 question exams (on the harder side), 4 essays, and a lengthy final term paper, but he provides everything on Bb to be successful in the class. Just do the work and you'll pass! he takes honesty very serious! He makes his own exams, so just study. Best GOVT Prof I've taken so far.
I took professor Amezcua for Texas and Federal Government. The class is lot of reading and slides. However, it is nice the way the professor set it up. Make sure to turn things on time and complete. Overall, if you do the work you will pass the class. I would recommend him.
Amazing professor as im signing up for my other classes im sad to see he doesn't teach other subjects lol, he is genuinely a funny guy and he makes class interesting and the work load is considerate.
I took an 8-week Texas government class. His assignments were easy; only 6 one-page journal entries,3 exams, each with 50 questions, with 2 attempts allowed. They were a bit challenging, but most questions came from the book. There was also a term paper. Extra credit was given for submitting work on time. Overall, very easy with a light workload.
This class has a lot of reading. I took an 8-week course, therefore, it was rushed but it was still quite a bit. Other than that he is a nice professor and responds to emails promptly. He is very understanding and I would take a class by this professor again.
Took both government classes with him this semester. He had all of the assignments and class expectations clearly stated. He sent reminders, so late work was not allowed. Lots of reading, but the assignments were fairly easy. I liked his class, and I would take him again!
I took Dr. Amezcua's honors government course and it was an amazing class. I learned so much from him and I plan to take him again next semester. I was a little worried about taking an honors course, but it wasn't bad. I plan to take more honors courses in the future after my experience in his class.
6 journal entry's, 3 exams (50 question), 1 paper. very understanding but does not teach. all you do is read the textbook and do exams. If you don't like reading, don't take him. very easy structure tho not a lot of work.
Took the 8-week online course. Contains 3 exams,1 term paper, and journal entries. Does not grade tough on the term paper as long as you follow the rubric you will receive full credit. Lots of textbook reading. Responds to emails in a timely manner and sends reminders. Overall, a solid professor I recommend taking.
I have taken multiple history classes with professor Amezcua and I recommend him to all my friends that go to San jac his classes are very easy I've taken them in 8 weeks- 10 weeks and regardless it's easy as long as you read the online textbook and keep up with due dates. Only note I would say is he does not open assignments early.
might be easy to pass if you have no other outside factors like other classes or work, he never responds to emails though so be prepared to have to reach him in class only, his criteria for certain work is confusing and he will not respond to emails asking questions, he's very strict on how you present yourself in class aswell
The professor has some good lectures, although he usually went off topic and for the first part of class he always talked about the importance of completing your work and ai usage every single class which got boring quickly. He also made attedance be a grade, and if you fell asleep in his class he would stop the class to wake you up.
I did not like this professor and found him extremely irritating. Nearly every class began with long, “life lecture” that had little to do with the course material and felt like a misuse of class time. Overall, he was rude and not someone I felt supported or respected by as an instructor. I would strongly advise not taking a class with him.
