i agree tests are not what she goes over in class, dr hydorn is better to take shes nice, dean is a nice lady but waste of time cause problems she goes over in class are different then test, i droped it after midterm so i wouldnt get an f, take dr hydorn

I've never failed a class in my life and I failed her Stats class. Whatever you do--get out while you still can! She's unhelpful, boring, and rarely ever makes sense!

Had to drop her class. I was given a STAT project that I tried to have my dad's friend (who is a STAT major) help me and even he couldn't do it! Horrible GET OUTTA THERE!!!

OHMYGOD! Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away! Grading is subjective, tests are difficult, review sheets are not helpful, and explanations are unclear. However, in all fairness, she is extremely friendly and attempts to help when asked.

Take the class with Durrer instead!

Ok, i had just finished calc II then I took this class as an easy 'speaking intensive.' Long story short, I had to drop the class after bombing the mid-term. At one point she failed me on a project for drawing a diagram with boxes rather than bubbles.

A student asked her to explain a homework problem once, and after working the problem out on the board, she confused herself, and said she'd have to get back to them, because she couldn't solve a 100-level math problem!

By far the worst teacher I have ever had she is confusing and petty( she took points bc I didnt staple my work). Please If you care at all about your GPA or passing a math class, do not pay money to have Dean "teach" you.

Not clear AT ALL. Assignments involve way too much work and preparation for a 100 level class. Confuses herself often.

She made topics harder than they were I took a 100 level class with her when I was taking 400 level courses and that is the only reason that I was able to pass - because I already knew how to do the things that she was teaching. I feel bad for the students who aren't math savvy.

She doesn't no the answers to her students' questions, and my GPA is taking a huge hit now that I got a 20 on my last test that I studied for. Beware of her.

At an institution like UMW her poor level of teaching doesn't belong. Her lectures were so boring and she's so boring it makes me sick. If she wore a clown suite and did magic inbetween solving math problems, SHE'D STILL BE BORING AND INADIQUATE. Her tests are harder than the impossible to understand textbook. AVOID DISCRETE MATH WITH HER.

RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!! DROW...Withdraw do whatever it takes to get out!!! She doesnt know how to teach...and i am convinced she doesnt know the information itself....GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!!!

HA-HA! she's horrible, don't take her. i'm a science major and she made finite seem tough. then again it probably would have been easier if i had learned from the book and not relied on her to teach the material. JUST DON'T TAKE HER AND SAVE YOURSELF AND GPA BLUNDER

She is by far the WORST prof I have had at UMW. Stay away..do not take her class! I should have listened when people told me not to take her. She is not at all helpful and she gets confused when you ask her questions. Do your GPA a favor and pick another professor.

She was a horrible professor. She was unclear and didn't know what she was talking about most of the time. I would advise anyone to stay far away from her.

I would have given her a lower score if I could. Grades are given arbitrarily and I've never met anyone who made so little sense. My father teaches calculus so I know what I'm talking about. The class was like being taught by someone who had never seen a math book before. I'm not just the token disgruntled student; half my class feels the same.

OH MY GOD. Worst teacher EVER. I've never had such a bad teacher in my entire life. She's extremely unclear, her tests are ridiculously hard and even if you do your homework and study, you still won't do very well. I used to like math but now I absolutely hate it. Trust the people who reviewed this -I didn't and I regret it now.

Sucks, she can't teach for anything. She forgets what she is saying in the middle of a problem and she is unclear on everything. her tests are so hard that most of the class fails and she isn't very helpful outside the classroom. in other words do not take her class unless you already know the material.

This is a class for math/comp sci majors, and it brought down the gpa's of literally everyone I have spoken to. Prof is very nice, but super disorganized and easily confused - the class ends up finishing her examples for her. Tests are very hard and take over two hours, often three to finish. If you can take another professor, do it.

She is the WORST Professor/teacher I have ever had and coming from high school that's saying a lot. Do not take her, if by some reason you end up with her because you didn't know about this website, switch to a different professor if possible. The book is pretty much useless, so if you must take her, buy a Stats for Dummies book.

Don't do it!!! I'm a freshmen who had taken ap stat this past year. I went into the class prepared still couldn't get a good grade! I've never gotten below a B in my life and now I want to curl up in a ball and cry! Don't do it!

I agree this class was hard, but the previous comments are wrong about her character. Professor Dean was so nice, just not very good at explaining things. Also, the group projects boost your grade more than hurt, and you should have known the class was speaking intensive before taking it! However, I do not recommend.

Dean is an awful, awful professor. It's a shame because she's a nice lady. Her class is the most boring class I've ever taken. Tests reflect nothing of the classwork/homework. Half of the time she can't solve her own problems, or she discovers that she has the wrong answer on her sheet. I took this class pass/fail so it wouldn't affect my GPA.

she is the worst professor that i have had. she gives 1 example for each thing that she teaches and moves on, even if you have questions. my roomate was taking the class with another teacher(she got an A) and when i tried to get help from her, she had no idea what Dean was trying to teach (i failed). this class is Impossible! short office hours too

She is the worse teacher by far. She doest't teach or help. She just gives you things and expect you to do it. Her quizzes and tests are nearly impossible. Out of 40 ppl i think only a couple passed her assignments. DONT TAKE HER CLASS. You should just wait not worth it at all

This really is one of the worst professors you could get. She doesn't help you and is quite negative. She picks least favorites and tries to find ways to take points off your grade

DO NOT take Dean. She is a very nice lady but a terrible professor. Her teaching style is not helpful at all and you will spend a lot of time wondering what is even going on in the class. Avoid this professor at all costs and switch out immediately if you are already in her class.

DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS, EVER. Her grading is completely arbitrary. She constantly makes mistakes during lectures and will make up excuses for why you got points taken off (Even for a correct answer). HW problems are not like anything she lectures about. she is never at her office hours and she forgets to teach material she tests on.

Never before have all 1's been more applicable to a professor. This is not exaggerated at all, she is sincerely a terrible professor. Cannot stress enough how useless the homework was and how the tests seem designed to make you fail. I don't understand why UMW still has this woman on the payroll. Please, save your GPA and avoid Dean!!

The workload is ridiculous for a 100 level math class. She doesn't answer email when you ask about a question on the take home assignments. Basically don't take this class.

Prof. Dean is about as useless as they come. It is really very upsetting, because she is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. That alone though can't make up for her terribly outdated teaching methods, her inability to solve her own example problems, and the fact that an average test grade is somewhere around 50. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

Avoid at all costs. She doesn't go to her own office hours, won't help you, and consistently gets lost and confused by her own notes in class. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS.
