He is a great teacher, makes the class easy by having a debate you dont need to buy the book! because he lectures out of it!
He's not too easy but if you are in class everyday and take notes you should do well in his class...he is very interesting and has a very good sense of humor...if you don't like to go to class don't take his you won't pass
Very Liberal very one sided..Wouldnt recomment if you want to get an unbiased gov class...
I was in his cornerstone government class. He is a really nice guy and really funny too (even tho he likes to scare the hell out of new students) But his tests are HARD!!!! Prepaire to STUDY YOUR BUTT OFF!! and be aware that most of what you study wont be on the test...
Took internet class. Read the book and typed up answers to goals sheet and studied from that. Easy A. 10 writing assignments were actually fun. (Went on police rideout!) Test came straight from the study guide. Clear straight forward teacher that I would recommend to anyone. But be prepared to do your work.
i had Benson for three different classes. He is hard but he will explain anything untill you get it. we had a group project in one class that was over half our grade and it was so easy! I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Sucked!
Excellent teacher. Difficult sometimes, but within reason. Knows his stuff.
hilarious. i would trust him with a country..maybe..
Great teacher, very informative, diffucult class but he makes you want to learn, this guy is a walking encyclopedia, great class would highly recommend for serious students.
This guy was really easy and helpful but I suggest you take it online. There are 10 assignments and they are easy and kind of fun. Enjoyed this professor.
he gave us practically no hw. sometimes wasn't very clear with what he expected from us. tests were from your notes and text book, fairly easy. he was detached from the class. but he really knows a lot about his subject.
Puts people into groups for semester projet. Am not into this prefer to be resp for my own grade. Not clear with his expectations. BUT if you are poly sci/hist/govt major you must take him he really knows everything. I did drop but out of all the profs at TCC i have had he is the most knowledgeable in his field when it comes to content.
benson is awesome! at first he can be all focused on teaching but after a while he relaxs and jokes around. really fun guy. he's always willing to help. not very clear with what he wants but if you ask him one on one he explains it better. made govt interesting.
MR Benson was very good. I strongly recommend him for online classes!
he is a big nerd, but really funny!
Don't be fooled by the fact that this course is online - it's harder than it seems at first glance! Tests are extremely comprehensive and questions intentionally reworded, so at first glance they don't seem related to the course material. Don't slack at studying and expect to pass his tests. I usually get As on tests; I made a 68 on the first one!
Never ever ever take his online government class. He could care less about how his student's do in the class and his tests are extremely hard. The questions don't even come from the book. I am an A student and he basically told me to suck it up that I wasn't going to make an A. He is a horrible teacher. I wouldn't reccomend him to anyone ever.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS OVER THE INTERNET!!! The questions on the tests due not pertain to the review very much. You will be lost and looking up answers. My advice is to take anyone else online!
I took the internet class and had no problems. All the written assignments were given ahead of time. Opportunities for extra credit were given. And though tests were not a cake walk, they were not crazy hard; it is a college course after all. A big plus, I never had to go to the campus. I'm an A student, and I made an A.
Never. And I mean NEVER take this guy's class online. The papers we turned in were easy enough, but in no way were the tests. The tests, honestly, were WAY harder than they should have been. If you want an A in government, DO NOT take his class. It's not worth the stress.
Mr. Benson knows his stuff. His class projects make government more interesting. Don't sign up expecting an easy A. However, there are projects to offset a lousy test grade and extra credit opportunities. He expects you to learn. Do the work. Come to class. Study. You'll leave with a better understanding of government and the way it works.
Hot tamale! muy caliente! sizzlesizzle!
Internet class posts COMPLETE schedule of assignments @ beginning of term & gives extra credit for turning in assignments early, couple oppty for extra points. NOT easy, but tests straight from text (which he wrote). Do the work & get an A.
If you are organized, take online-gives full calendar & assignment list @ beg of semester & gives Ex Cr for completing assignments early, so no reason not to. Tests DO NOT come from wkly homework but DO come directly from text, which he wrote. READ & do the work & you'll get an A; gives good prompt feedback
Mr. Benson was completely approachable and available the entire semester. I would take another class or two from him in a heartbeat. His writing draws you in and makes you want to read more. I have defiantly gained a greater appreciation for our Government. !
Great teacher. Very helpful and assignments were extremely interesting. You know exactly what to expect. Tests are challenging, but if you study, study, study, and do the assignments, you should be fine.
I love this man! He was an amazing teacher! I learned a ton and the class was awesome!!!!!!!!!
Do NOT take this guy online... his tests were very hard. his tests are extremely hard. a lot of people say hes better in a lecture class... all i know is, he is a horrible teacher for an online class. i made an A and worked way too hard and never made an A on a test. it was by the grace of God i kept my 4.0 gpa. hes horrible, sorry. dont take!
I took this class online and enjoyed it. There are many assignments but he allows you a lot of time, and you can finish all assignments early and get x-tra credit. Questions have to do more with opinions and not facts. Tests are hard but if you read his essays they are pretty easy. Overall, I highly recommend this professor.
Greatest teacher I ever had. Was most often a director for discussion rather than a preacher. Provided insightful information to Local Government, and would often point out inefficiencies. Was no-nonsense, straighforward, raw teaching, but was far from abrasive or in-your-face.
Dont take online! Class is rated on 4 tests and 10 easy assignments. the book is hard to locate information in, and there are no study guides or anything.
He is so well organized in his lecture delivery. All interesting history through sports...no fluff....perfect!
I took this class online, and it wasn't very difficult. There are ten easy assignments and three tests which aren't too bad if you actually read your book. Besides emailing him my assignments, I never interacted with him at all.
took the class made an A but it wasn't easy. he wrote the book, he has his expectations of what you should learn. 10 assignments and 3 tests. assignments are easy test are a little more difficult, read and re-read each chapter and you'll do fine. its a college class.
Very responsive in need of help or with questions. Wrote his own book which is OK but its very difficult to follow and find information in which was the biggest downfall while studying;10 assignments were very simple which I completed in a day and 4 tests that came from the book. It is a college course, but maybe a bit more clarity in the book?
Pretty cool prof! He tells you exactly what you need to know and gives basically no homework, currents events are picked up like 3 times but he'll say theyre due everyday. 1 group project that is EASY and takes all semester. and 3 tests, the tests are a little hard, but he curves them!
Benson knows what he's doing, and he has high expectations of his students to be adults and just do the work. You have 3 tests and a project. Attendance is a must (especially for project). Doesn't preach from a book so read and take decent notes and you can come out with a B without tons of effort. Very dry, very funny.
I took him online for TX Govt. You have 10 assignments, which are easy, then you have 3 tests. Just read the textbook and you will do great. He gives you opportunity for extra credit.
had him for texas govt, i regret not showing up to class more often, he's funny and he teaches well, keeps it down to earth and the class project was fun and easy, i made an A and the only classes i showed up for on time were the tests.
Prof. Benson is a man who I respect greatly. He is passionate about what he teaches, and assignments are enjoyable. (I like politics though.) Was very supportive and helpflul to me when I had personal troubles, allowing me an extra week to take one of the tests. Excellent class.
This is one of the worst professors I've ever had. He isn't good at teaching, doesn't have easy ways to reach him, and showed up late all the time. He never held office hours so I couldn't speak with him. He was an awful professor and it was an awful class. Very unprofessional.
Excellent class, professor was demanding but upfront in his expectations. Class attendance and participation are recommended for a better grade. Extra credit is offered, be sure to take advantage of it. His book is written in the same style of his lecture - dry humor stuffed full of good info. Pay attention, take notes and you will do well.
Great teacher!! We had 3 tests that he supplied reviews for and notes for as well. He also gave extra credit points if you turned in 10 assignments before the due date!! Great teacher!
I had no interest in government nor any knowledge of it. I have an appreciation and a basic knowledge of texas government and some federal basics as well. I have this professor to thank for it. He has a passion for it but teaches in a way even I could understand. He keeps it light and interesting.
Took his class online and it was easy. He gives you a choice of 2 assignments to do for your lessons & gives you 10 extra points if you complete lessons early. Gives you review for each test. Excellent class to take online. I learned alot about TX government.
Took him for both TX and US Govt. He cares so much more about TX Govt then US. He legitly cares about politics (Texas) a lot. Your grade is a group project grade, and three tests. HE POSTS THE REVIEWS THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS FOR ALL TESTS. Tests are kind of tricky, so study the reviews well. He words it funny, sometimes. Choose him. :)
He was very clear about his expectations right off the bat. Do your work and do it on time. If you finish early it's extra credit. The tests were harder than the weekly homework, but I never once had to crack open the text for the whole semester. I just did all the homework off the top of my head. I am taking another course from him this semester.
never take his online course!!!!!he won't help you on anything!!! no lessons no quiz . assignments will never help you on the test. you have to read the whole book on your own. cuz he wrote that book!!!!! never take it!!!!
Took online in the summer. Buy the book because you'll need it, he wrote it. Had major tests and about 10 HWs, which won't help you much if you fail a test. Tests are only 30 mins long, so you better know your material. He does give out a "review" so you know what he'll be looking for on the test, but I still found it difficult.
He comes in and lectures and that is all you have to go off of for his tests. He gives you a test goal sheet but it wasnt all that helpful. You only have the 3 test grades and a project grade for the whole semester. I would not ever take him again.
I don't know how he taught the previous semesters, but this semester we were supposed to have 4 exams, including the final. Class attendance is counted as extra credit. Two weeks prior to the final, he changed his mind because more than half the class dropped. Get the gist? I'm sure he's a nice person, just not a good teacher.
I took his online course and did fine. Breakdown: 3 exams that count for 25% a PIECE and 10 short essays that consists mainly of your response to various current events. Be sure to pay attention to the lesson plan and his essays on the home page so that you are fully aware of which chapters will be on each exam.
Succinct, clear, engaging lectures in class. Answers all questions based on fact.
3 tests and one test grade coming from a makeup of small assignments throughout the semester. If you don't like reading alone, or good at tests, this class isn't for you.
Best instructor ever. He gives clear instructions, extra credit if you adhere to the rules and he will answer your questions. Just do the work, he gives plenty of time and is not harsh with grading-he is fair. I give him an "A" !
A great professor. Gave reviews for all three tests. No text book use, so needed to be in class for notes. Really cool and straight forward. Class was never boring. This history class dealt in sports as well which kept my interest and you could tell he is a sports guy. Only 4 grades for the semester, but show up and pay attention and youll be fine.
Although he is quick to respond, I would not take his class again. He is very left leaning, he will not take off points on assignments if you show a different political opinion, but the tests are a different story.
You have 3 tests and 10 small EASY and fun assignments!! I loved this class!! Pretty much if you do the assignment with good grammar, he gives you full credit. He NEVER mentioned his political stance and never counted off for opposing views. For tests you are given topics to study. KNOW everything about that topic! I got an A but it was earned!
His class is really easy. You have 10 assignments throughout the semester and 3 tests. Assignments are fairly easy and as long as you use good grammar, you'll receive full credit. Make sure you read the chapters so you pass the test. Otherwise really easy and simple. Only way to fail is to not do any assignments.
PROS: if you complete the very EASY assignments (10 total, most around 200 words) before a certain date, you get 10 extra credit points. CONS: The tests were TRICKY and HARD. I read all of the chapters closely and took notes using the course goals he provided. Do not take this class if you aren't willing to read. Purchase the e-text if you do.
**Choose Another Instructor** His online class is near impossible. There are 3 exams and 10 email assignments. Ex credit won't help much considering that his exams are 25 difficult questions in a 30 min time. He gives a review, but it won't help you obtain the grade. He wrote the book required for class, heavily controlled. Utterly dissatisfied.
Awesome Professor! I took the online class and he posted all of the materials on the first day of class. I finished two months early and made a 90. I would not hesitate to take another class with him as the professor.
First test is rough, but you'll know what to expect on the other two. I had no interest in Texas gov, but the book was interesting enough to keep me engaged. Kindle version bugs out a lot. Read the textbook and follow the test goals and you can ace this class easily.
This was not my favorite class. It wasn't too difficult, but reading the book is a necessity. There weren't many assignments and the tests were challenging. He did not provide much of his own notes but making an A is possible.
He was pretty good. Only 2 tests, a project, and an Essay. He gave EC. He let us out about 45 min early everyday, and the Essay was the Final and it was just talking about how you had made your project, easy. The con's were, when you had a Q he didn't really answer it and the tests weren't really clear. But he was OK everybody passed.
Took online, got A, and finished 3 WEEKS BEFORE class ended! 10 Assignments, easy, mostly online research and opinion. 3 Exams, not super easy but possible to make an AB if you actually read the chapters! PLUS he gives you a goal sheet and another sheet with a summary of each chapters. Responses quickly and very organized online class.
Professor Benson posted all the assignments at the beginning of the semester (this is why I took him; I left the country during the middle of the semester and needed ultimately flexibility). I finished the course more than six weeks early. There was no busy work. My grade was based on tests only. I love this but I know it can be intimidating.
Throughly enjoyed the class, I left far more educated on the topic of Texas Politics. The text book was extremely informative and was a great tool for the class specially due to the fact that the professor was the author. Always willing to discuss questions. Class is fairly straight forward as long as you read the text book.
I don't even know why he goes to class, he just gives work to every "group" so we had to present the chapters every single class while he just sat there doing nothing. Never stays the entire class, he just says that he is going to give us time to discuss our chapters for next class. He never, ever gave one single lecture.
Wow, let me start off by saying this teacher if perhaps one of my FAVORITES I've ever come bye. A simple dude with a simple course plan for the semester. What can be better than that? I only have a limited amount of characters so I'll get down to it. 2 test (our final exam was our essay of how well we liked the class lol) the test are EASY.
Online book, 3 exams, and 10 assignments. I LOVED this class! He opens everything up at the beginning of the semester and gives 10 extra points if all assignments and exams are completed early. I finished everything a month into the semester and actually enjoyed doing the assignments. Highly recommend Professor Benson and taking this online class.
I have a love hate relationship with this class. The assignments were SO easy and fun, and if you finished all of them before deadline, automatic 10 points added to final grade. However, his tests are seriously difficult. Not enough studying in the world can prepare you for those tests. Just check his concepts guide and pray you'll make an 80.
I took him for a summer session online. He gives 3 tests total including the final and 10 short answer assignments that make up 1 grade. The textbook is online so you don't have to buy one. You can work at your own pace and he gives extra credit if you turn all of the assignments in by a certain date. Read and use his goal sheets and it's an easy A
This class was great. Took online during 6 week summer. There were 10 easy and fun assignments and 10 points extra credit if you finished all of them before mid-semester. 3 tests, 25 questions each. You really need to know the material or you will not pass the tests. But if you read, use the study guides, and take your own notes, you'll be fine
Took online Summer I class. Super easy class. Easy grader. You complete the assignment, you get credit. Three timed (30 minute) tests that were 25 multiple choice questions online. 10 assignments. Oh, and text book is FREE... He only uses an online one. Wish I could take him for GOVT 2305!
Took this class online and it was great! 10 really easy assignments that you email to him and 3 multiple choice question tests. Another great thing is he provides the book online and you don't have to pay for it. As long as you put in effort on the assignments, he'll give you full credit. He also provides test outlines!
I took this is a summer Master online course, his class is very well structured and he is very to the point. If you do your work, you do it on time and you read... you will pass. He does offer some extra credit if you turn in all assignments by his chosen date. I am incredibly pleased I took his class.
I took this class online for the 8 week summer semester. It wasn't bad. I usually make A's but I made a B+ in this class; mainly due to my personal agenda. However, the entire class is open in the beginning and can be completed early. Test questions weren't that difficult, however, you are only given 30min to complete 25 questions. Not bad
I took him summer 2 for GOVT 2306. He has 10 assignments, if they are completed within a certain time period he offers 10 points extra credit to the final grade. He has 3 test, that you could pass if you read the textbook by following the study guides. I do recommend him.
Horrible to take online, gives 10 assignments and 3 tests.
Learned more on my own
You get as much out of his class as you want to get out of it. Wealth of knowledge. Ask good questions and he'll provide dense, deep answers.
Mr. Benson is vey clear on what is expected in class. There are 10 assignment that are fairly easy and if you complete them early you earn 10 extra points. There are 3 major exams. No busy work. He uses a FREE online textbook. You will need to read and follow his test guides. He also responds to emails quickly. I wish he also taught US Govt.
Took this class online. Not a bad professor. The work is there and the course organizer tells you exactly when things are due but you have the option to turn work in early. The work is actually interesting, you have to do a lot of research. The major problem I had was with the three tests. Answered straight from notes, still got wrong answers...
Took 8 week online spring semester finished class in 8 days super easy and assignments are easy as well. Make sure you use the course goals before taking test or you will not pass
Took this class online, The class isn't that hard if you can sit, read and understand the material. 3 Tests 25 questions each and you are expected to finish in 30mins. There's also a discussion, if you finish it early you get 10 points extra. Get ready to read. I got a B, an A if I didn't rush it. Finished the class in less than a Month.
Blended course, has the book available through blackboard, but we used it less than 5 times the whole semester. We had 10 assignments. All easy, if you turned all 10 in before a certain date, you got 10 extra credit points. Then there was an extra credit assignment, that went to our test one grade. Three test in total, final, and a group project
This professor is so unorganized! You basically learn from the other groups presenting whatever they need to present for that week. You have a group project at the end of the semester but Benson is so unorganized that he didn't even know which group was suppose to do what causing groups to have to redo everything. Stay away!
This was a quick 4 week class so all that was required were three 25 multiple choice exams and ten 200word essays. Easy A, he was an easy grader and answered all of my emails promptly, even at 1130pm when I got locked out of one of the exams!
Easy professor. Blended course. 10 online essays which were all easy. The rest of the class was a group project, but don't think you can sit back and let the rest of the group do the work and think he wont know because he grades you based on what the group says about you. Other than that super chill class.
Unbiased and not pretentious. Youre not going to get a better Texas Gov teacher than this. Extra credit is bountiful and deadlines are established well ahead of time.
10 short essay responses and if you finish them before a deadline he gives you 10 extra bonus points. He grades very promptly and he is an easy grader. Test are hard and 25 questions and you only get 30 mins, use the test guides THEY WILL HELP. Passed the class with a B. He has everything open so you can get everything done whenever you want.
I had a positive experience with this class, 10/10 would recommend taking him. There are only a few things that you are graded on, make sure to work ahead on the 10 assignments, as he awards a 10 point bonus if turned in by a certain date. WORK THROUGH COURSE GOALS and READ THE ESSAYS. They are more important than the book. Easy A. Good luck!
He was such a great online professor. He had clear grading criteria and gave you 10 extra credit points if you finished early. I had an issue with Proctor U on the first exam and he helped me a lot, and let me finish the test after the due date. He is an awesome teacher, would definitely recommend him to anyone!
He was awesome! We had 10 assignments posted at the beginning of the semester and if we finished them before a certain day we got extra credit. You do have to read the chapters and his written essays(which arent long) and he gives a test guide to study with for each test.
3 exams and 10 assignments. The 10 assignments count as 1 exam grade. The assignments are just a 200 word email. The exams aren't too difficult if you know the material. It's straight from the book and/or common sense. Easy professor.
First B out after a year and half in college. Did the extra credit too. Even after filling out all course goals and info I didnt get an on tests. If you want to insure your A make sure you read the book. Otherwise its just easy to pass the class.
Easy class, read the book and do the concept review to study for the 3 tests. One assignment grade, extremely easy. Finished the whole class in a couple weeks.
You can pass but have to learn the material on your own. Should have taken someone else.
Just took his summer online class after just receiving my nursing degree (now working on bachelors) and he was AAMMAAZZIINNGG!! I could not have asked for a better professor! I took this class the same time as history and thought it was gonna be difficult but he was by far the easiest teacher I have had in college. I would recommend him to everyone
Hard but fair. Comprehensive feedback if you want it. By far the most respectful instructor I've encountered so far.
Easiest class I've ever taken. There are 10 easy email assignments, and 3 tests. No DB's. No proctoring. You do need to be prepared for reading things yourself, and applying enough concentration to retain what you read. He doesn't give feedback on your assignments unless you ask for it, and gives a couple of extra credit opportunities.
He does not explain anything well, you don't really take notes that'll help on your exams, most of everything on the exams are not taught in class. In my class we had to basically look up information talk about it and he'll just explain more briefly what we just said. Only good thing is that he gives extra credit.
He provides book/materials you will need for his class. It is very helpful for in class, assignments, and the group projects but his tests still are very difficult even using his book which this class grade is test heavy. If you want to pass this class prepare for the tests. Overall he is still a great professor.
I can not say enough how awesome Mr. Benson is. He truly cares about his students. I've never met a more understanding teacher in my years of going to college and this is my third degree I'm working on. He does not require any books. The reading material is not that bad and homework is crazy easy. Very easy A.
homework is easy enough the tests however are tough so make sure you read the material!
Blended course- he is a very nice man, provides feedback (when requested) on assignments, and will engage in awesome class discussion. Tests are not easy so read thoroughly, test goals help you prepare. Assignments are easy, turn them in early for EC. Group project sounds more complicated than it is, do your part & you get a good grade.
EASY CLASS!!! He opens all assignments so you can work at your own pace. Most of the assignments are your opinions on government. The tests got tricky because the questions are worded very diff from the study guide. He does not use a textbook so it's hard to find the answers for the study guide. Then the questions look very different from the study
Easy but engaging
His textbook (co-written by him) replaces normal lectures, so class time is essentially study time. He allows some extra credit opportunities and encourages working ahead. He's available if you need help but generally leaves the material for you to work through at your own pace. A clear grader and very fair.
Super straightforward class. Just read the book, do the test goals and assignments (which are easy) and you'll be fine
Mr. Benson is a great teacher, his class is very easy to understand as well as the assignments and test. He gives you plenty of time to finish your assignments and they are very well written out and explained. I would definitely take him again.
A really good and fair professor, I believe. He knows how to teach and really good at it. The tests are not that hard honestly. I took his class when I was a senior, and I really gave 80 percent of mine but that got me a B+. Again, you have read the textbook to pass the class. Only 3 test (25%/each) & 10 writing (sum of 25%). Awesome teacher.
Good Professor. Gives extra credit and responds to emails quickly.
I took his 2021SP class. Course work: There are only 3 tests including the final and 10 writing assignments. The writings are simple since they're 200-words. Make sure to read for the tests. Test help: The Course Goals and Concept Guides are great help. He also provides other resources and extra credit. Professor Benson also responds fast to emails
I took an online summer class that only lasted about a month, only 10 assignments, and 3 or 4 tests that make up your whole grade, so make sure to turn things in and really understand the concepts. He gives feedback only when it is asked, but they are normally short responses if the assignment is well done! overall, pretty simple class!
I took Professor Benson's class in-person, and it was very neat. I had some familial issues throughout the semester so I wasn't present for most of it, but that wasn't an issue. There was one big group project we had to do as a class that lasted the entire semester, so if you don't like group projects this probably isn't the class for you.
Love his class, hes a great professor and is an easy class to pass
I didn't like his teaching style, he just talked with no powerpoint and a few drawings on the board. Really hard to follow along in class. You need the book to prepare for the exam basically. Look at the course goals! It's what will be on the exam. Do the extra credit! The group project seems harder than it actually is. No homework. Test heavy!
It was hard for me to understand his teaching. I ended up dropping his class.
Honestly one of the worst professors I've taken, very hard to follow his class since he does not provide PowerPoint but his OWN book. A joke of a class since he wasn't here for about a week and a half at the beginning of the semester, and when he DOES show up... you will not learn what you're suppose to and it' Test Heavy without actually teaching
1/5. I had asked him for help and I found little advice or tutoring he was willing to contribute. The tests he gave were very confusing and asked open-ended questions. He didn't give any lecture slides or do any zoom meetings for the entire year. The only resources he gave consisted of were only the textbook and a 1-2 page essay for each topic.
He was always late to class and lectures but with the most dry and boring tone, no powerpoints or notes. Just take notes on his book that he wrote and teach yourself. There are 10 assignments (VERY easy) and 4 exams (NOT EASY) . Exams are really what kill it all, open note but all trick questions. He is a good person, just not a great professor.
I really enjoyed this class. Most of it was discussion boards that we could form our own opinions on. As long as you do the work you will get a great grade.
Professor Benson leaves you off on your own where he gives you 10 assignments (easy to work and manage with + extra credit if all turned in early before a certain due date) and 3 tests that makes up the most for your grades. You must read the textbook which he does not provide any powerpoints or lectures - instead provides essays for more reading.
I did the work and he still failed me. You resend to a 200 word question and then he emails you that you got full credit. I always got full credit and he still failed me. The textbook does not help with the tests and there are no test outlines or PowerPoints. He doesn't explain anything at all. You fly blind in this class.
The assignments are easy. He offers a few options for extra credit. Everyone has access to his textbook which you should use on his tests. He has goals and is what I used to take notes along with the course guides. First test I didn't take notes and failed it. Other two I took notes and got 90s. The tests are 30 minutes and there are no retakes
Currently taking it. We only have 3 grades for the entire semester, all of them are tests. Best advice is to look at the COURSE GOALS, they're a lifesaver. Each lecture is super boring and I've learned more on my own then in class. Offers some extra credit, when he does TAKE IT! Only reason why I have A+. Otherwise, would not recommend him.
Lectures are quite boring, professor was not in class majority of the semester. There is 3 grades, 2 are tests and the other is a group project. The tests are confusing and the group project is graded by your group, so make sure you have a good group.
The peer evaluation part of the group project affected 12.5% of our grade, as there were so few grades, only about 6 grades I think with 3 tests. If you use the flashcards on the textbook resources thing and focus on terms, basically memorize about 24-30 for each test, you'll get As on them. He wasn't actually as bad as I thought at the time.
Does only have about 3 grades that affect your grade, however he will give extra credit with those to boost them. The group project at the end of the year is fairly easy but does take a decent amount of work. Overall, great professor who has a lot of experience in Texas government.
I took his class for a 4-week summer session. Clear grading, and chances for extra credit. Read the textbook and pay attention to the Course Goals. Assignments were easy, and quick to complete. Wording on the tests can be a little tricky, extra credit will save your grade. I would take this professor again.
I had 122% in his class for a while because of extra credit. His tests are confusing however they aren't lock down browser. I enjoy that he allows us to talk to each other and discuss questions with a group. He's also funny. Take notes and read the textbook and you'll be fine, nothing too hard. Do the extra credit when you have the chance.
Professor Benson's GOV2306 class has a straightforward grading system with chances for extra credit. While the lectures can be dry, focusing on the course goals and textbook resources like flashcards can help ace the tests. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for exam prep.
I wouldn't take his class again because of the way he teaches. The whole semester we had two quizzes, one group project and one essay. No homework one extra credit to help bring your grade up if you fail a test. He is a cool guy and usually lets class out early but if you want to learn I would pick a diff professor. A little biased in some aspects.
His class was fine. Lectures can get dull but the exams are open book so it's and easy A. He does drop people if they skip class though.
Professor Benson is quick to reply to emails and grades promptly. The class outline was straightforward to follow. As long as you do the work and go for the many extra credit opportunities, you'll do fine. I took the semester-long class online, but I think the workload is manageable to complete in a condensed version.
Very polite and understanding professor. Good extra credit and no assignments or quizzes. 2 Exams and 1 group project, be sure to pick good people for the project. Easy class, would take again!
I chose this professor at the last minute, and I'm glad! I took the short 5-week summer course, and it was extremely doable. We had ten assignments that were simple to follow. I knocked them out quickly, and then you have three test exams. He provided all the chapters and outlines for the exams. Take advantage of the extra credit!
Professor Benson is kind, professional and very responsive and I would 100% take another course of his. I did take this as an online course so it was a lot of reading, but you want to make sure you understand the concepts you are reviewing to pass the tests. Great course to take if you are recently returning to school.
There are only a couple of graded assignments, one of which is a group project. His lectures are kind of hard to follow since he doesn't teach from the slides but the tests are open book so you can look up answers from the textbook. You don't have to read the textbook to follow along in class and I didn't read it at all and made an A.
