If you have to take Calc, he's the best. Funny like Kramer from Sienfeld

Very Eccentric
Very good calc Prof, hella eccentric but cool

Funny professor, knows his stuff! I love this guy!

He has a good sense of humor, he reminds me of robin williams
All he did was bring the book to the board and copy verbatim. A waste of time.
Doesnt drop lowest test. HW counts. Tests are pretty hard, funny prof
i wish he could teach all my classes
He is the funniest teacher. He is really smart and explains everything in depth. His tests are hard, but he curves a lot at the end of the semester. Definitely take him for Calc III.
Dr. Brock is by far the best math teacher I ever had. He gives very clear lectures, and he is always willing to help students with their course work....and he is sooo handsome.
pretty boring, but overall easy class. he sometimes rambles to himself.. he curves all tests, & readily explains problems..
Dr. Brock is pretty cool just a little arrogant. He is very fair when it comes to exams. His review sheets for exams are almost identical to the test. He's funny and he makes Calculus interesting, even if you suck at math like me. He does curve.

Brock is the best math teacher I've had at state. He has a great sense of humor, although not a lot of people in class laughed at his jokes. His 3-D drawings are incredible. Funny and entertaining! Take him for Calc 3!
Really good math prof...funny, really hated pt cruisers. Fair exams, and hw not too hard.
very entertaining/cool. One of the best teachers I have had. Office furniture has a college feel to it. Always helpful.
HE IS FUNNY!!! VERY HELPFUL AND CLEAR LECTURE.. HWS ARE CHALLENING SOMETIMES BUT HE HELPS YOU OUT IF YOU ASK... RECOMMENED!!!
great teacher, very funnny and entertaining, explains everything clearly and is willing to help people who ask, tests come from notes and study guide and curves them if everybody gets low grades
Off the wall comments like "as easy as blue berries through a goose". Great teacher, the whole class he teaches nonstop. His tests will humiliate you but he curves them. Homework is graded. Best math teacher at SDSU so far.
Great Teacher, and this is a easy class...curves the tests, gives a study guide before the test and then tests pretty much similar questions for that. Easy teacher, easy class...great guy.
BROCK IS WAY CHILL. CLASS IS PRETTY EASY, BUT SOME MATERIAL CAN BE DIFFICULT. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS.
Pretty easy tests for a non-math person. Really funny, amusing guy, but it seems as though he had a rocky Spring semester (he says he quit drinking) and was moody towards the end of the semester. I bought the older book, you may surive too. I got a B.
Brock-cool guy, entertaining, a few corny jokes here and there but energetic. Subject material very boring and pointless but there is NO graded hw and tests are similar to study guides AND curved. I was somewhat lost but still managed a B-.
class is boring and he doesn't take roll, gives study guides for tests and he doesn't grade hw. Overall, an okay teacher that will help you if you just ask. Got okay scores on tests but manage to get a B with the curve
cool, funny, helpful, he does not take roll but you sould not miss his class.
this class was one of the best I had this year. I'm not into math and he made this class funny. Great class to take. He is very helpful if you don't understand something.
1st semester @ 303. Rushes through examples w/o clarifying exactly. However, a must to take for 303, he's a great teacher and it shows. Has a funny personality too. Likes to wear the same tee-shirt (SDSU) every class, he must be proud to teach at SDSU.
Dr. Brock is one of the best teachers at SDSU. Although he sometimes rushes through material and confuses students, he is one of the most accomodating, genuinely caring, and intelligent professors I've ever had.
He's really really funny. And makes Calc 1 easy
I absolutely hated....despised this class. Do not take it if you are not a math major. I used to love math, now i don't even know what i think about. I seriously had 4 nervous breakdowns before the final b/c i thought i was going to fail, it's so hard. if you're a math major by all means...go for it
I've never taken one of his courses, but I see him every six months and he's a witty, funny guy. I know someone who took a class and said he's a great professor. Paul, I know you're reading this right now, checking your rating :) See you in six months...
The class is pretty fun for a calc class. The test are reasonable. If your good in calc or taken it before the class shouldn't be that hard.
He isnt a bad teacher, but I wouldnt say he is good. He wasnt always clear about what he tried to teach. If you arent too great at math, I would recommend another teacher.
Dr. Brock obviously put a lot of thought and effort into compiling materials for this course. By doing so, he was successful in giving non-math majors enough mathematical background to enable them to understand and appreciate some interesting and important theorems. Fun and fair.
GREAT proffesor! Very smart and funny! He explains the material very well. The midterms/finals are pretty good. If you have to take a class he teaches, take it. He's hilarious and you won't get bored in class. He also does some HW in class and doesn't assign anything too hard.
The dude is funny at times. Sometimes he gives you a good study guide before exams. He uses the book examples and proofs, which I liked. He's kinda cute too. Just kidding Fish!
Somewhat funny, he’s defiantly the best calc II teacher so defiantly take him. I didn’t necessary do well, but that’s because I hate Calculus but he’s the teacher to take it with. One of his quotes: “Put down your crack pipes and do some studying.”
Take out the fact that I love math, this guy was awesome. He explained everything well, and was so helpful. Not to mention we spent half the class laughing at him. He is a funny guy. He sure did love his diet cokes. Best teacher I have ever had.
I took him Fall '03, and I had taken Calculus in high school, so the material was pretty fresh in my mind, therefore the class wasn't too bad. Concerning Paul, he was great! I really looked forward to going to class just to hear what sharp and witty things he'd say. Paul was a great teacher, who was clear and explicit about his expecatations. GREAT
Calculus for Life Science. Easy class if you follow his lecture and use the formulaes in lecture for test. Pay attention and take good notes is the key to succeed in this class. Tests aren't too hard. Should pass with flying color.
He is the best in the math department. He is funny and really helpful. If you want to pass and also understand, take this man, you wont regret it.
He's a great instructor. Just listen to him, do the hw and you'll do great. He has a great and very sarcastic sense of humor, so he'll most likely pick on you if you do something silly. But, he's cool and A LOT of help! Enjoy a great way of learning calculus.
The class itself is insanely easy, mainly things that have no point or that were learned in grade school. He is a very good teacher, knows the material, just a little scatter-brained and off goes off on random things for no reason. He is funny occasionally but other times you can tell he's tryin just a little too hard to be funny. Very helpful tho
Wonderful Teacher-Grades on a huge curve and is very understanding about grades. He's very helpful and will explain things a million times if it means that someone will understand it. I got a B without even trying. Very easy class to pass
Great teacher. Funny.
Anyone who doesn't like Brock, is an idiot! Brock is the MAN! Sitting through one of his lectures is halarious because you just don't know what he is going to do next. He loves to go into liitle tangents, then about 10 minutes after he'll start lecturing again. Awesome! If he is teaching it...take it, crash it, do whatever you need to do to get in
good teaching. some lame jokes but hes cool. clear
He was a funny teacher, but his "spaghetti" style writing of problems on the chalkboard used up my patience pretty quickly. There would be a maze of work on an entire board for one problem. That got old fast.
Brock rules. Funny guy. Can be short-tempered, but only once or twice this semester. Went off on the chatty girls in the back (haha!). If you like math and have an easy time with it, Math 303 will be a breeze, and it fulfills your upper div science requirement so you don't have to take bio or chem or crap like that. Very helpful in office hour too
okay, this guy is funny. i took both 303 and 510 from him. 510 was hard but 303 was pretty damn easy. good teacher and keeps class interesting.
This class is easy. The tests were multiple choice.. I went to class twice a week and got a B.
The class is NOT easy.. actually the tests are pretty hard especially the proofs, which you have to memorize about 8 of them! Did not like the way he teaches :(
if you are good in basic algebra and geometry you should take this class. you dont need to get the book. 4 exams. 16 m/c and 2 short proofs in eash exam. he only asks questions he covers in the class lectures. so take good notes. the only bad thing is that each question has 5 points! good professor overall.
I thought this class was fun. You have to be interested in math and MUST go to class everyday to do well. Interesting class and he makes it fun. He is a very funny guy! This class is not easy, but it is not extremely hard either...
Definitely my favorite math teacher ever! I've taken him for 3 math classes. He is very funny and eccentric, but also very sharp and focused. He makes everything easy to understand and interesting, and tests pretty straightforward. Plus, it's either him or one of the many foreign math teachers who speak no english at SDSU
If you're not a math person, don't take this class. I am an English major, but have enjoyed and understood math classes in the past. Brock lost me on so many things ... and then assumed that everyone got it. The first week, he got grumpy that someone had questions. He's one of those - if you get it, good, if not, too bad type teachers.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! unless your last name is newton or pascal do not take it. this class is really hard and he doesn't do a good job teacher. i thought o hey its history of math no big deal, we had to do proofs hard math and such...if you are so so at math don't even think to register for this class.
math 118 with brock was a good class. I suck at math but if you any good its pretty easy. The homework and practice tests help alot, also there are som extra credit oppurtunites. Brock is funny, and keeps class interesting.
He is funny. He makes learning easy and enjoyable. A real review of basic math. You do not need the book for this class. I went to class daily but I now know that attendance isnt necessary. He has everything online. But I would attend because it is fun stuff : )
This class is called History of Math, but it hass very little to do with History. It was easy for me because math is one of my best subjects. If you do not do good in math don't take this class. If you do, it's simple. The only part I didn't like was memorizing proofs- but their are only two questions like that per exam. The rest is multiple choice
Best math teacher I've ever had. Easy to understand, very nice, and cracks jokes every now and then. Homework was optional. All homework solutions were provided. 2 tests and final were all based on homework and lecture examples. Attendance is a must although it is optional! Great teacher who's got a great beard.
This is the easiest class I have ever had in college. I had high school classes harder than this. There is no homework and no need for the book. He tells you what to know for test and I think a 2nd grader could pass them. Don't listen to the people that say its hard, they just need to complain about something. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Regarding the 11/3 idiotic comment that says, "This class is so easy a 2nd grader can pass it." How come then, when Brock wrote teh results of the 1st mid-term on the board that 1/3 of the class got an A, 1/3 got a B, and 1/3 got a C or lower. Obviously a 2nd grader couldn't pass this class. I took 2 courses in Calculus and find this class hard
As a person, hes a nice guy. He jokes around and makes things somewhat interesting. As a teacher, hes not very comprehensible. His manner is everyone understands what he's saying when a lot don't. He acts like the concepts should be easy because they are easy to him, but they aren't. Its ridiculous and I would avoid this teacher.
I 100% agree with the 4 comments below. If you are Liberal Studies, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Professor is funny but also a bit arrogant. Of course math is easy for him, he's the professor. The probability material is very boring (unless you want to gamble). About the 11/3 comment (2nd grader)- I saw failing grades around me on the 1st midterm.
I made the comment on 11/3. Seriously if you think this class is hard I wonder how you passed high school. This stuff is 9th grade math and requires hardly any effort. You guys are doing a disservice by scaring people away from an easy A! If this is hard for you enroll in basket weaving, or is that too hard for a college class as well? You get real
Very smart and very well spoken about calc 3. I recommend him for people who are interested and want to learn about calculus...he obviously isn't teaching math to english majors. He outlines everything word for word and if you do the homework which isn't required after every lesson there isn't a possiblity not to get an A
well lets see-you learn how to count in diff languages, you lean exponenets, how to multiply, different base numbers and how to convert them back to base ten. I got a C in the first exam because i thought WAY too much about it, but the material really is high school stuff.dont think too much and its easier than you think.
first, i'd like to say that this is a good class and the professor is occasionally funny and entertaining... as far as the content goes, the math part is ok, but there should be more actual historical stuff.
I was really excited about Math 303; but I got in and started failing the tests. I studied, paid attention in class, and did the exercises but still managed to earn bad test grades. The material in the homework does not reflect the test questions at all. He writes too small so sit up front. But I guess if you go to office hours that'll help.
super easy class! if you show up everyday, take good notes and study from your notes you will pass no matter what! i agree with the comment below don't think tooo hard on the tests its basic stuff.exams multiple choice so i mean if you forgot how he taught it in class you can solve it another way.
Dr. Brock is obviously a mathematical genius. He is claer and concise in his lectures, and explains everything thoroughly. He will revisit material you should already "know" if it supports what he is lecturing on. Always helpful, and funny. Fair grader. Homework is challenging and will make you learn! Tests are exactly as the study guides outline.
The teacher is very clear and precise and explains everything more then once. However the class may get boring sometimes with theorem over theorems. He gives 3 midterms however the lowest score midterm is dropped. The midterms are not difficult and very straight forward as long as you study the material. Overall a good teacher to take for linear a
Do the homework(not collected) and you will do well on the tests. Class is full of definitions and theorems which he writes on the board so it can get repetitive and bore you.
Brock's awesome. This is the second class I've taken from him (I took 521A last fall) and he is the best math professor I've ever had. Hilarious, laid back, really helpful. His notes are crystal clear and he provides all the solutions for the hw. He also gives a study guide for every test. They're really long but there's no surprises on the test.
Awesome teacher! He was very helpful with making each concept easy to understand. He was also pretty funny. Homework is extremely helpful for the tests. Definately recommend taking this class
Loved this class. It was still hard, but Brock is awesome. He gave lot's of examples and does a really good job of explaining confusing concepts. Keys to passing this class: do all the homework, go to every lecture, and buy the student solutions manual! It does a great job of explaining all the homework problems.
Awesome teacher! Super helpful and even cracks jokes here and there.
This class was not extremely difficult if your did your hw which was not mandatory but highly advised to do so. Brock is a fair grader so do as he says and getting an A shouldn't be that hard. His final was basically the study guide that he handed to his students so study off of that. I got a C but anyone has the capability to get an A.
I enjoyed this class. The exams were moderate, but Brock is awesome. He does a really good job explaining confusing concepts, especially in his office hours. 3 midterms, 1 cummulative final. (lowest not abused) SO there was 8 questions on a midterm and 14 questions in the final. So go to lecture, do the HW problems, go to the TA´s office hours, a B
Good teacher, really clear on everything you need to know
He's funny at times, occasionally rambling on a joke. However, he know's his stuff. 3 midterms+1 final. Go to class, do the HW, even if it's not graded.
Brock is a pretty chillin' dude. Funny, so it gave me incentive to go to class at 9. The homework isn't graded but I would say that it is essential if you want to know the material. Some test problems taken directly from the textbook. Helps if you know some physics too.
Great professor, does not collect homework, and although he might stray off the topic he finishes lecturing on what you need to know. This class is actually fun to go to. I really recommended. 3 exams and if you do good you don't have to take the final which means you can be done with the class 2.5 weeks before the school year ends.
Best Professor I have had at SDSU. Knows his stuff and makes it fun. Great sense og humor. Highly recommend!!
This class will give you an opportunity to think in another way!I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot!
I love this class because the professor is extremely helpful. He is always go over the previous lecture to help the students understand on materials. His midterms are fair, plus he gives a day free to go over the homework before the midterm. For whoever actually try to do the homework and cheat sheet, you would get a minimum a B in your midterms.
He's the funniest teacher I've ever had. You go to class wondering, "what's going to happen today?" The exams were easy and predictable, but at the same time, I learned a lot of information that I won't soon forget. He's the Mary Poppins of math professors, making disgusting math taste good with comedic sugar.
Im a polysci major that was forced into this class because my scholarship required me. His classes were so interesting that he has seriously made me consider on switching to a math major. I am math challenged but even I was able to walk away with a C+.
I really enjoyed his teaching style. The tests weren't too difficult and he let you use a full page of notes on each exam. And I'm pretty sure he curved the final a lot.
I love this math class. He knows what he's doing and makes it fun! Honestly, I've never got bored in his class. The materials are easy to follow and his lecture is extremely helpful! As long as you go to class and take note, you can walk out with BIG FAT A+.
This teacher is hilarious and the class is awesome! there were times that he would go off on tangents and talk about random things, but it was hilarious and i recieved an awesome grade. i would definitely take this teacher again.
This class is a joke. Professor Brock knows it, that's why he tries to make it as interesting as possible for everybody. I've taken him for other Calculus courses though, and I highly recommend him! For ANY math course. Best Math teacher i've taken in college .Coming from an Engineering Major and math minor that means a lot! Do homework and EASY A
He is AMAZING. Seriously, I wish I could have him as a professor for all my math courses. His only flaw is he's constantly late to class, but other than that, I highly recommend him.
Love this prof. I've had him a few times & he makes everything seem so easy! Makes class enjoyable. Take any class with him if you get the chance!
One of the best professors! Sad that the budget cuts affect him because he is not able to teach other math courses. I really to take him for Cal III because I like things explained crystal clear. Brock is funny, energetic, and ready to make my day. Sometimes hes late but we feel him for his busy schedule.
Funny professor who made class interesting. He went over elementary stuff in mathematics while keeping it simple and clear. Only 3 exams and one final, all of which are straightforward. Would take a class with him again.
Dr. Brock is the man. His lectures are worth not missing class as he explains what will be tested on while also telling sometimes funny jokes or really lame ones. If you’re above decent with math you will ace the course especially because he allows 2 pages of notes. Ican only imagine how cool it would be 2 take another upper division class with him
Great Professor. Knows the material and is very clear in explaining it. Oh yeah, Hes funny, definitely makes class interesting.Showed up 10+ minutes late to class almost everyday. Four Exams including Final Matches your lowest score with your final grade if higher. Allows some sort of cheat sheet for exams.Tells you exactly whats on the EXAMS.Easy!
