very good teacher. loves what he teaches and gets class excited about geology. i would recommend him to anyone
Awesome teacher! If you want to take geology, take it from him. Makes the class really interested in what he teaches, and cares about the students,
Great teacher! His calss is tons of fun and you learn a lot, but he's not easy. He'll make you work for your grade. I recommend him to everyone. You'll have a blast!
Always willing to help, with a passion for his subject matter and getting others to learn what really matters, and not just numbers, stats and dates.
He is really not hard, he gives study guides of exactly what is on the test, and he is a really fun prof.
Loves what he teaches, willing to help the student even in extreme situations as long as there's a legitimate reason. Very fun lectures with lots of interesting material.
he is a fantastic teacher!! He takes the time to answer questions clearly and democractically. He loves what he teaches and it is evident in how good he is at it. I have never considered the fact that evolution is a true, scientific fact. He proved to me that it is; It's not contrary to my religion.
test's can be hard, but you will learn a butt lode! get him talking about dinosores and he'll go on forever, every he makes it ALL intersiting! good teacher.
He made stuff I don't enjoy very interesting and clear. You will have to study, but he's fair, funny and you'll actually learn something useful, even if you're not interested in science.
No longer teaching Geography, now Only Biology. He's a Paleontologist. The class was very concerned with how poorly we all did on tests, but after a curve, we managed okay. He plead with people to hang in there and he would work with everyone to pass. In the end, I got a big fat "A" and should have as I studied a ton. He's a good personable guy.
Had Paul 3 times so far...Geology, Physical Anthro, and now Biology. One of the best profs on campus
He is hilarious, great teacher and great guy. His tests were way hard though, our class avereage was low. But you will learn a lot from him, and he makes class interesting.
I have taken three classes (Prehistoric Life, Physical Anthropology, andd Mammalogy) from Dr. Bybee now and have enjoyed his classes more than any others. He always makes lecture fun and is very concerned with how the class is doing.
Dr. Bybee is easy enough, as long as you buy into all his kooky rants. I've taken this same level of Biology two other times (at other schools, before I transferred), and this is definitely the WORST it's been taught. Dr. Bybee teaches his 'theories' as 'proof', and claims there is no scientific doubt. Google, and you'll find it.
The best science teacher at uvsc. You want to be in his class. He's fun! the tests are fine. you must know there's no such thing as an easy bio test at uvsc but his are perfectly consistant with the study guides.Know the S.G., attend class, and after a sweet curve thanks to your lazy classmates an A is perfectly attainable.
No homework. Although it does require quite a bit of studying. The hardest part is the first part of the sememster after that it gets fun. If you study you will get an A or B, but you HAVE TO STUDY. He is funny and tells great stories. At first you'll curse him, but after a month or so you'll love him. He gives a great curve to test scores.
Dr. Bybee has to be one of the best teachers ever. He is not concerned with just a bunch of piddly crap, he teaches what is important AND adds a lot of cool factoids and knowledge. His tests can be difficult so they take some study but he is always fair. Take him for anything.
He does a great job of explaining hard topics. His tests are pretty tough but as long as you pay attention in class and take notes because he makes emphasis on what will be on them, you can pass them easy. He also does a pretty good curve for tests.
Great teacher. Knows how to keep it interesting. Knows his stuff as well. Tests come directly from the study guide. Had no problems getting an A on each test before the curve.
He's kind of weird, but his class isn't too tough cause all you have to worry about it getting good grades on the test, although the tests are hard. So just study his reviews and your fine.
This guy is a great teacher. He is so helpful and he really knows his stuff. Mammology was quite easy but you do have to study. I recommend this teacher for any of the classes he teaches.
Best Bio teacher at the school. Make sure you take a class from him if you need a bio class.
Some students were used to more stuctured lectures and didn't like his shoot from the hip style. Bybee is very smart and knows his stuff. Some of his tests were very weighted, (i.e. making 15% of a test from 1 page of the reading.) So just know what he likes and study that the most. I would take him again.
Bybee was a little disorganized I think mostly because he is new to teaching biology 1620 - it was his first year. He was a great teacher, though and didn't strike fear into his students on the tests, he makes really good study guides.
Bybee is an awesome teacher and very nice. I thought he was a little difficult and picky. I liked him, but didn't agree with that everyday was reading homework and then discussion and if you didn't understand the reading it was very difficult.
I loved going to his classes, I learned alot and his lectures did not get boring at all. He helps the class prepare for the tests with great study guides. I wish I could have taken more classes from him.
This Guy knows his stuff, ask questions keep up on the reading and get an A!
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR, KNOWS HIS STUFF, MAKES CLASS FUN. CRACKS A LOT OF JOKES WHICH TOOK SOME GETTING USED TO. ASK A QUESTION HE'LL KNOW THE ANSWER, AND DO IT POLITELY. HE WANTS STUDENTS TO SUCCEED. READ THE TEXT, FOLLOW STUDY GUIDES FOR TESTS AND YOU'LL BE FINE.
Excellent professor, funny, witty, and nice, very knowledgeable, learned lots not only about Biology but great insights on life, evolution was very interesting! read the book, tape the classes, review classnotes and fill out the study guides, or you won't get a good grade, be careful filling out the anwsers, know your stuff, good luck! he is GREAT!:)
Bybee is AWESOME! Took us to Thanksgiving Point for a tour where I learned a TON. VERY knowledgable in all aspects of anatomy, biology, paleontology, and geology. Great class from a teacher with actual experience. I absolutely hate Biology but he made is fun. Use his study guide for the test and you should get a an "A". TAKE THIS CLASS!
Bybee's tests are insane. They are perhaps the worst written tests I've ever taken. He tells you to pay attention to the lectures but he side tracks constantly and just reads straight from the book when he's not. Everyone in the class seems to struggle on the tests and there are the only grading criteria.
His lectures are more confusing than helpful. Very disrespectful of students. He seems to distain students and the department.
Prof. Bybee is a fun teacher. He likes to answer your questions about evolution more than he likes to stick straight to the book - which is great! This class is an easy A IF you (1) attend class every day,(2) follow along in the book with a highlighter, and (3) write down small notes in the margins when he clarifies the text book.
This is an absolutely wonderful class, I took it to get my social science credits but I would recomend taking it just for an elective. He tells you what to underline in the book, and supplies a study guide before every test so if you show up and go through the study guide there is no reason you shouldn't get an A. Absolutely wonderfull professor.
He is an amazing teacher. You can learn a lot from him. He is very helpful when it comes to material, and class lectures. He is more then willing to take the time to explain things discussed in class. I can't wait to take more classes taught by him. If you have the opertunity to take a class from him, DO IT!!!!
He's a very funny guy. He knows a lot about Biology. His tests aren't hard once you learn how to take them. If you buy the study guide and memorize it then you will do wonderful on his tests. Just show up, take notes and you'll pass.
Great teacher. Really willing to help when you need it. Will work with you if you are having problems. Very good teacher and person. I recommend him.
Great teacher. He jokes around a lot, but still teaches well. Had to retake this class...whatever you do, take Bybee instead of Robbins.
Paul is so awesome! His prehistoric life class was great. He really knows and loves this stuff. Attendence almost guarentees A's on the tests. His lectures are very entertaining. He follows current news and has gorgeous overheads of all the prehistoric critters. The dinosaur section was unbelivable!
He makes class fun and interesting but his tests are extremely hard and unpredictable.
Very knowledgeable, and doesn't force you to learn things you don't need to know.
I think he could be a great teacher if he prepared more for class.
He is very smart and knows what he is talking about, but is not good at all about conveying that to students. He is a lazy teacher who makes things as easy as possible for himself by not doing any assigments or study guides. He also says that the book is wrong, but doesn't give us enough time to write down everything on his massive overheads.
He emphasizes things that are going to be on the test, but then they aren't. The tests are ridiculously hard, and there are no assignments, so that's what the grade is based on. The last test I took had material on it that we didn't cover in class until the class period after the test was over with. He's extremely unpredictable and unhelpful.
Terrible! Grades on his own made up scale. Studied 20+ hours and made flash cards for test, and got a B. WAY harder than an intro class should be. Tests on things that aren't in the book or lecture. No study guides. Told us that we didn't need to know a chart in the book, then put 7 questions about it on the test. FRUSTRATION AHEAD if you take him.
In his lectures, he doesn't emphasize the most important parts, so it's hard to know what to study. He is funny, but he often gets off topic, and doesn't leave powerpoints up long enough for you to take notes.
he's a very smart teacher, but TOO HARD for a 1010 class unless you really love biology I'd find another class
This professor is terrible, way to hard for a 1010 class, If you plan on taking this class, dont bother going to class, memorize the 5 chapters you will take a test on within 2 weeks, spend 30 hours or more studying for a test, and still only come out with a B. Chances are if you take bio from him, you will fail.
GREAT TEACHER!!!! He is really funny and is a really good teacher. He really enjoys teaching. As long as you make sure and write down what he says in class and read the study guides before taking his tests you will do just fine. I am looking forward to taking other classes from him!
This class was very difficult. Studyed for hours over text and notes from the powerpoints and couldn't get a good grade. I wouldn't take this class if you need a good grade because you will end up doing it over.
Dr. Bybee is awesome. To all of the people crying about "studying so hard". Just wait until you get into some real classes. Bybee works with you to help you get a good grade. For Bio majors taking his bio 1620 class, its easy. When you get in his class ask him about drinking coagulated milk. oh, and Dinosuars.
He is a teacher that is really smart and knows his stuff, which makes him arrogant. He acts like he doesn't care but he really wants everyone to have a good grade. Study everyday and take it twice, GUARANTEED.
Hard class if you're looking for a decent grade. Requires lots of study. He's funny and smart, but writes tests in a tricky manner. Made threats to the class about leaving negative remarks on this site about how it could have an adverse effect on the grades of students. Kind of lame. Biology isn't meant to be easy, so whoever you get, good luck.
tests are easy and straight forward. you do need to study! many people think and hear that its an easy a and its really not. he does give you a study guide but dont base everything off of it. just make sure that you can do it. i got an a by doing the cd, questions were takin strait from it! memorize the book pretty much...
Great teacher if you want to learn, I know he's gotten a bad rap from non-majors, mostly because they don't want to put forth the effort to learn the material, they want it to be an easy class. He knows his stuff and is very helpful if you put forth the effort. Study study study, attend class and pay attention.
Dr. Bybee is a true asset to UVSC. This is the secound class I have taken from him and was once again quite happy. He is not easy nor should he be. You are in college to learn, not just earn a grade. He really cares about his students if you care about your work. I totally recommened him, especially if you are taking an upper division class.
Obviously smart. Laid back; a little scattered. Interesting lectures, but test not necessarily tied to lectures. Some answers wrong on the answer key that he din't bother to fix because he "grades on the curve." I have a 3.9 GPA, but got a B after a lot of work--but science isn't my thing. Good teacher if GPA wasn't an issue.
To be honest, I don't know why this guy has a smiley face next to his name. I thought he was the rudest, most ignorant teacher I've ever had. I ended up getting a good grade in his class, but it was because I taught myself EVERYTHING and relied heavily upon the textbook... Almost like a TV course, but with a discouraging, annoying teacher.
I loved Bybees class. He's hilarious, and he knows his stuff. I think some people take his sarcasm and jokes a little too seriously, lighten up people. I found Prof. Bybee to be a great professor, he really helped me understand the material. I put my own time into it and aced his class.
Always making fun of people and ideas. Makes a few cracks at the LDS culture even though he admitted to being LDS. Hard class. A bit full of himself. Smart guy though. Knows everything about Dinosaurs. Get ready to STUDY to earn your grade. An A can be reached, but not easily. Likes to write tricky test ?'s
Eh, easier than Kopp I guess.
This teacher is by far one of my most favorite professors on campus. His tests are incredibly hard, and he has a very abrupt sense of humor. If you go into his class with an open mind (and the ability to laugh), and an understanding that you WILL have to study harder than most of your other classes, you will enjoy his class. I had to take it twice.
Be ready to study very hard. The test are hard and you just have to put a lot of time into it. At first I didn't like him but after a while I seen that he is a very nice guy but he just wants every one to learn and to pass his class
his tests are pretty close to his study guides. does give a small curve. this class wasnt too hard but there is a lot of material that you cover so you need to study. he does have some funny and crazy stories. he is almost a few min late everyday. he teaches out of the book and uses projector so read the book before class
This class was extremely hard, but I am no science wiz. He was a great professor who will listen to you if you talk to him. Advice to all is to go to his office and take a look at the test and try to learn his testing style. I promise you will learn something from his teaching techniques.
Awesome teacher, laid back, and make class so much fun! Really knows his stuff but doesn't show it in a smug way. Really helpful. Tests aren't too bad, he teaches what he test on, so just pay attention and read and you will do fine.

Taking notes is not possible, unless you are a fast typer. Find what is said on the power points in the book and underline it. He loves the subject and wants you to learn. Tests are really hard!! But hang in there he curves big! I got 70's,80's I think one in the 60's and still got and A. He is not like the easy teachers at night, you will learn.
Dr. Bybee is easily one of the best professors at UVU. He is one that twenty years from now I will remember. If I were to become a professor, I would mirror his teaching. He tests strictly from lecture with support from the book. He is very well educated and knows a lot. Be prepared to ask questions (especially on evolution and natural selection).
Tough class, I didn't like biology to begin with and I didn't enjoy this class. Everything was lecturing off of powerpoint slides. He does grade on a curve which has saved me multiple times. There are no assignments/homework, only tests and a summary of 10 bio videos. I wouldn't recommend this class if you're like me, and dislike bio to begin with.
Professor Bybee is an amazing teacher who is passionate about teaching and biology. he was very understanding and helpful. He will work with you if needed. Just study hard and ask him questions if needed. He will go over tests after you take them and allows you to see where you went wrong. He is the BEST!!!!
He loves Biology, and knows it very well. It is very hard to follow him in class, because he moves fast. It may seem like he doesn't like you, but its all a show. If you show interest in his class he will help you. Great guy, curves big, but you have to study. I recommend him.
At first I HATED the class, but truthfully I was just lazy. He's a really good teacher who knows his stuff. You just have to keep good notes and study for the tests for a while if it doesn't come naturally. All our test were graded on a pretty big curve and on the final he gave us 1/2 the answers. He's a cool guy and I reccomend him!
I think he is extremely fair. I had a situation this summer in his class and he was willing to work with me and was anything but arrogant. I have a great deal of respect for this teacher. His class is difficult but it's biology. I wasn't expecting it to be easy. But he was fair and accommodating.
This dude knows anyone who is anyone in paleontology! My friend and I had more fun joking about him and the class, but turned out that we both ended up loving it. Tests are fairly tough, but good grades are achievable. This class beats the heck out of normal biology. I love Bybee
If you have a hard time keeping up with notes and understanding concepts in biology without it being spoon fed to you don't take Bybee. The tests are hard.I got a 66 on the 1st test but I studied my butt off for the rest and have gotten above 90 in all of them.So be willing to invest a lot of time in this class. This class has taught me how to study.
He was hard. He was unclear of what he wanted you to know for tests as well. He brushed over the history of the earth chapter in literally 5 seconds and that was the only thing on the next test STEER CLEAR!
Dr. Bybee is an awesome teacher, I had him for both Bio 1010 and 1620. the secret to his class is you have to study on your own time and underline the material from the power points in your book. This man is funny and is usually pretty giving with his curves
This class changed my life. I am not a science whiz, but I had a really great time in this class. After failing the first two test and speaking with Bybee on a regular basis, I not only got a great experience out of it, but Bybee opened my eyes a ton! I loved this class. I will not lie, it was hard, but worth the hard work. Totally recommend him!
For a subject that I hate more than I can explain, I felt Pro Bybee did an amazing job. One of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. He is very difficult and goes over the material very quickly in a short period of time, but he makes class fun and keeps you awake. Work hard and talk with him if you have a question on something. He is a very kind man if you are willing to make the effort.
Bybee was the best 1010 teacher. Hard..YES. Fair..YES. If you can take 1010 from him the DO IT!! Plan on reading the book before class, take his noted (bring a tape recorder) during class, and study about 2 hours after class and you will do fine.It is time consuming. But he is fair with his grading, and willing to help students. So go talk to him.
Bybee is AWESOME! As has been stated, his tests are difficult but you do the necessary studying and you'll do fine. He made Biology fun and interesting. He doesn't bore you with anything you don't need to know at this level. He is precise and accurate and his tests are exactly what he goes over in class. Loved him!
good teacher
Bybee is the best bio professor on campus. If you can some how catch him- he knows his field better than the majority. He really cares about his students learning and doing well. He loves dinosaurs a lot.
He is a good teacher. Expect to study alot and come to class so you can get the lectures. I found underlining the book as he went along was the easiest way to study later while still concentrating on class. Fair grader.
You need to read and re-read the text book and be a good test taker...tests are difficult
The prof is an excellent teacher, and REALLY knows his stuff. I thought I could just cram for each test and do okay but NO, you really need to study. The test were crazy difficult until I started studying 2-4 hours per test. He is extremely fair on grading and gives big curves on every thing. He gave us half the answers on the final.
Half of the class failed the test. He didn't answer any questions, he always said "Just read your textbook." Expected you to have a lot knowledge of biology, for a 1010 class. No study guides. Had stuff on the test that we never went over in class. AWFUL TEACHER!!! Does not teach, only lectures.
Professor Bybee lectures from the book's power point presentations which he has added additional information for clarity. He specifically covers in detail many of the items which will be on his tests. He gets side tracked sometimes with explaining some concepts for students but makes sure he covers the material in the test.
He is hilarious! I had a lot of fun and learned a bunch. It was fairly hard, mainly cause i don't care much for rocks, but dinosaurs were interesting. He loves his Dinos.
Dr. Bybee is a very good teacher, the best in the science department so far. He genuinely cares about his students and will always answer questions. During his lectures he will tell you what to focus on. He is one of my favorites!
Dr. Bybee is an amazing teacher. He's really intense at the beginning of the semester to "weed out the academic lightweights". While he is a tough teacher, you learn a lot. He's always willing to answer ANY question, and genuinely wants us to pass. Don't even attempt writing notes, just highlight in the book. Form a study group, and it'll be fine.
If you want to fail a class make sure to take this one. The tests are impossible and even the tutor can't help.
Often late to class but is very knowledgeable and is willing to answer any questions.
Bybee is amazing!!! Biology has always confused me, but he is able to simplify it enough that even those of us who aren't so bright can understand it! He's got a great sense of humor that makes class lecture enjoyable. If you study and got to study group, tests are actually pretty easy! Totally recommend taking his class!
He seems tough, but is really a nice and cool guy. You'll know exactly what to study for the tests, but they are a little tricky. No curve, but he will omit questions that a lot of people missed. Take good notes (I just typed them fast, others would highlight their book). He goes FAST but will explain if you ask. And save your life, go to the tutor
Dr. Bybee is the best Biology professor in UVU, hands down! If I could take all my science classes from Dr. Bybee I'll do it. He's my 1st tough professor who helped me become a better student. My study habits changed when I took his class. I highly recommend Dr. Bybee for students who have the passion to succeed.
He was a very good teacher, very well informed about the subject and very helpful with questions. Unfortunately, the free-form atmosphere that made the class so interesting and informative meant that we only made it through 1/2 of the material, and not in a great deal of depth. A fun, informational class, but not one where you get much done.
Works from powerpoints. If you copy his notes his way, you will do great!
Bybee is the best professor at UVU. He might be late most days but he is so passionate about the subject that he makes it fun to learn. He gets distracted easily and will go off about dinosaurs for 20 minutes in a mammalogy class, but if you read the book you will be fine. Bybee is an awesome guy and I look forward to taking more courses from him.
bybee is really fun, but his 1620 class is as he said "not worth your time". tons of useless memorization but still fun material covered in the class. MUCH easier than biol 1610, just make sure you go to any study sessions and keep up on the reading. attendance isnt mandatory but you need to go as his tests are based off of lecture material.
He knows his stuff. He is a little arrogant at times, but he is a very smart teacher. What I loved most about his class is that he really listened to questions that were asked and did his beast to answer them. Professor Bybee is a fantastic teacher.
Great professor- brought his little dog into class quite often, but did a great job of keeping the class on track, and answering any questions that the class had.
Hard class, takes a lot of studying, grade is based ONLY on tests. Bybee is extremely smart and has a lot of experience.
Bybee is great! He is always willing to answer questions (even if they sidetrack us a bit)and is never demeaning or rude to students. If you read the book and attend the study sessions, the class is really not hard.
I dont like biology, however I actually did like Bybee. His tests were fairly easy and he gave each test an adjustment which helped my grade a lot. Final was on 2 chapters because we didnt finish all the material. He's a pretty funny guy if you get his humor. He seems a bit arrogant at times and refers to his students as muggles. I recommend Bybee.
I did not like him at first. But as the semester went on he became my favorite professor. He is funny. The tests can be hard, but with a study group my scores improved a ton. He has an adjustment on the tests which help a lot. I would recommend him.
I love bybee. He is probably my favorite professor. He makes going to class fun. Go to the T.A. reviews and study and your guaranteed an A. He is hilarious. His tests are straight forward he never tries to trick you. Go to class to get the notes and only know what he underlines on his slides.
Bybee co-taught with Dr Haisch for this class and we only got to see him for a short period of time but he was amazing. He understands that not all students coming into the class have biology behind them and tries to help them really understand. I will take as many classes from Bybee as I possibly can. He does expect his students to try.
Bybee is the best professor i have ever had. The man knows his stuff. . Straightforward, no tricks. He teaches you what you need to know for his exams. Lower level gets study guides, upper division gets the answers.I have never Learned more effectively with any other professor. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Bybee is so awesome! He explains everything in a fantastic way. Everything on the test is what was covered in class or in the textbook. He makes sure everyone is aware that we need to use the textbook.Loved this class! made me want to take more biology classes.
Dr. Bybee is like a cross between Indiana Jones and Gregory House; except instead of an archeologist, he is a paleontologist and instead of a medical genius he is a savant in vertebrate paleobiology, biology, and evolutionary biology. So if you need a 1010 or 1620 Bio credit, Bybee is the master you should learn from!!
Absolutely the best teacher I've ever had. The subject isn't overly easy or hard but he explains everything great and really goes out of his way to explain things. KNOW EVERYTHING UNDERLINED ON HIS POWERPOINTS and take good notes because he doesn't give them out or do study guides.
He's very easy to understand and if you have an questions he'll go over it til you get it. Does get distracted but not annoyingly so and its usually on point.
College Biology 2 - we studied botany, and zoology. pretty much what the class consist of. Underlines things in lecture that will be on the test. Excellent teacher not the easiest class but if you can get your hands on study guide will be way easier. also test bank question FYI ;)
Really boring class, good luck trying to contact him in anyway. Constantly showed up 20-30 minutes late to class. Tests are hard, he had to curve them significantly each time. Grade is based off tests and one museum visit. He is very smart and knows his stuff.
This class was interesting. It's not incredibly difficult, but it's tedious. Use the notes on Study Blue and you don't even have to go to class, but if you don't get the notes off of study blue you're pretty much screwed for the tests because he doesn't have study guides anymore.
If your ready to study a book for 6-8 hours a week and only 6 test be your grade then this is the class for you. There is no homework or study guides for the tests, you pretty much have to read the book chapters over and over again to study, this was not a good way for me to learn or take test from. If you can take it from someone else DO!
If you're looking for an easy A this is not the class for you. There isn't any busy work but there is a test about every 2 weeks. He doesn't try to trick you and everything he goes over in class is on the test. He's good to work with and knows his stuff, but be prepared for LOTS of studying.
This classroom setting is extremely traditional. You sit in a room and get lectured to while you take notes. There are no assignments, only tests. This learning style was not right for me. However, he is a very personable man and makes it as interesting as he can. This is probably one of the better biology classes available, but don't expect an A.
Your entire grade is based off of the tests. If you don't study you're never going to pass. Bybee is a nice guy who is willing to answer questions in class if you're confused. But if you're looking for an easy A this isn't the class for you. On the plus side, he often brings his dog to class & curves almost all of the tests.
Bybee is awesome! If you are looking for a Biology teacher at UVU he's the best to take. It is no easy A his classed is based only on his test, (which he curves) you will need to take notes and read the book if you want to survive. One tip: Write down ANYTHING Bolded, colored, or underline and you'll be fine Really nice, helpful and brings his dog.
In all of my schooling I have always got A's or A-'s. I received a C in his class. I dedicated time, attended every class, took great notes and read the book. His grades are based on the tests and we were not able to see our grades until our final transcript. Smart guy, terrible class.
Bybee is one of the best professors! I found out that my grade was wrong by him and told me to tell anyone that took him in the fall of 2013 needs to go talk to him! The testing center messed up the students grades and he wants to help go talk to him and your grade will go up dramatically.
His classes are very straight forward.. They are very easy if you put in the time to study I'm taking my third class from him and think he's awesome. If you're pre-health and need upper division credits this is your guy. He is super cool too I have a lot of respect for him. As usual ignore the Bio1010 posts they don't know what a hard class is.
One of the easiest professors ever. There are study guides for his tests available online that he does not have a problem with you using. I went to class the first week and then stopped and got an A.
He is great guy and is very funny. He brings his little dog to class. He doesn't upload his slides, but does let you record him which is essential to filling in the gaps of your notes. He will not give any extra credit. He gives 5-6 teat that are all weighed the same. plan on studying A LOT. He is a great guy but confusing if your not a bio major
I did not like how the class was set up. Your grade for the semester is only based on 6 tests and NOTHING ELSE. When he is lecturing, it's hard to write down all the notes and be able to understand what he's lecturing about at the same time. I suggest only doing one or the other.
This guy is hilarious. His lectures can get confusing but he is more than happy to let you record them. He doesn't upload his slides but he does let you take pictures of them in class if there is a lot of information on one. There are study guides online that are perfect for his tests. I only went to class the first few weeks and I passed easily.
Dr. Bybee is not a teacher to "spoon feed" students. Your grade (at least in BIOL 1620) is based on 4 tests with an A at 95%, no extra credit, no curve.... With that being said he has TA's who help you through the tests. Dr. Bybee is incredibly knowledgeable. I thought he made the class really interesting. Study underlined section of power points!
I have had Dr. Bybee for two classes 1620 and 3100. Both are a great deal of information and if you don't want to learn you wont. If you do study, his test are not that difficult. He expects you to know what he teaches (which is literally his lectures) nothing else. Also more understanding about life issues and will work with students through them.
This class was amazing. I learned so much and it wasn't too stressful. He is very clear on what you need to know for the test which makes studying super efficient and easy. You do have to go to class and pay attention, but his lectures are really interesting so it's worth it.
The grade for this class is only the chapter tests you take. He expects you to take exact notes of his power point presentations (he doesn't post them online.) If you study those notes closely, you will do well. He isn't patient with student complaints. If he says, "This won't be on the test," but it is, he just says, "This isn't high school."
Had him for "life in the universe." Tough because he was one of two professors. They were not in sync. Cutest little dog that he brings. Has a lot of knowledge and fun facts about topics taught. I learned so much more than just what was in the book. You have to be willing to study and read because lectures can get confusing.
GO TO CLASS! He tells you what material will be on the test and have you underline it in the book. Get the textbook for sure. Memorize exactly what he tells you to underline and you will get an A. No homework, no assignments. I didn't read the book and only studied a few days before the test and got an A. Pretty straightforward class.
This class has so much potential but is poorly executed. Boring lecture. Tests are extremely confusing. I found I was most effective reading the book before going to class and taking class notes on the book notes I had already made. I'd recommend doing the questions at the back of the chapters and buying the study guide. Good luck.
Those that complain about Dr. Bybee aren't familiar with what it takes to succeed in a college environment. Dr. Bybee focuses on learning, and everything you're supposed to know for the test is underlined in his Power Points. He is a gem of a professor who cares about his student's long term goals. He is always available to help outside of class.
Paul was one of the best professors I had. If you are willing to listen, show up to class and do your assignments there is no reason not to get an A grade from him. He is not a pushover and expects you to do your part. He is a tough grader because he wants you to learn. Yet, if you are struggling he will go out of his way to help succeed.
He taught the second half (biology) of my astronomy class. All he did was lecture and he moved extremely fast and his slides were unorganized. The test for his half of the class was easy, but it's hard to keep up with him and I felt like it was just basic biology all over again. He's fairly nice and passionate about the subject though
I have taken 4 classes from Professor Bybee. He is a wonderful man and incredible smart just look up how many degrees he has. It is nearly 10. He is clear on the criteria of what you need to study for the test he will tell you what to underline in the book and spend class talking about interesting stuff. His tests are hard study hours for them.
Professor Bybee is a great person, enjoyable to listen to, and kind. He reads off of his slides and tells you that you need to know the things that are underlined/bold/asterisked. A lot of the material on his tests come from comments he makes or things he didn't tell us we needed to know. For that reason his tests are hard.
Your grade is based solely on tests, however it's not hard to obtain a good grade if you pay attention to the lectures and study outside of class. His lectures are very entertaining and don't require a lot of note taking as he has you highlight in the textbook. Overall Bybee is great, take him if you want to learn a lot!
The subject was fascinating, and Dr Bybee has a cute dog. But he doesn't use Canvas, & canceled class multiple times without announcing it. You are graded by 4 tests and 1 assignment. There are no study guides and no access to the slides, so studying is virtually impossible. I got the worst test scores of my entire life in this class.
Would have liked to ask for further interpretation of test questions but he was only ever there for just the first exam all semester. Other than thatHe's a great teacher; very passionate about the subjects he teaches. Class required a little reading and writing but nothing too bad. Class lectures were interesting but a little fast-paced.
Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't show up for class you will not pass. Bybee goes through a lot of material in one class day. No homework or projects, just test. Bybee is very opinionated and a bit intimidating but he wants everyone to succeed and he will work with you, just ask for help. He does not do canvas so take notes in class.
Do not skip this class! You might be tempted to skip but dont or else youre going to fail the class. Great professor! I was always happy when he brought his dog in with him
I enjoyed the class. Lectures were interesting and the professor was fair.
Dr. Bybee was a great professor. He is incredibly knowledgeable about dinosaurs, and he loves to share that with his students. He loves getting questions. He didn't publish the lectures, and all the test material was from the lectures. So attendance was necessary. There were five tests, a two other assignments, so study hard.
Excellent Lecturer. Very clear and concise on exam material, dates and times. If you catch him after or outside of class he is very available and goes out of his way to be available. He is extremely knowledgeable in the subjects, and enjoys teaching. He does not grade on much of anything though, just 4 tests but GO TO CLASS and you will do fine
He is a nice person but does not take time to explain concepts in depth. We have a powerpoint lecture everyday for the entire class period. He flies through the slides and you have to take pictures of each slide so you do not miss anything. He does not post powerpoints on canvas so pictures of the slides is all you have to study. Easy class.
Dr. Bybee is one of the best professors at UVU! He's hilarious, makes the lectures interesting, and is clear with what's expected. We had 4 exams, some extra credit labs, and an assignment comprised of summaries of each chapter from one of the assigned books. He allows you to take pics of his slides - study these well and you will ace the exams!
He is an interesting guy.. with a cute dog. I took this class to have a fun general science class and it was. Unfortunately, we didn't get to the labs which are the funnest part because of COVID-19. The only thing you are graded on is 4 tests, a paper, and attendance to guest lectures in the class. It's a fun evolution class and he knows SO MUCH
Professor Bybee is a really nice guy, but I have to be honest. He is incredibly unorganized. His class, syllabus, slides, and lectures are all a huge mess. He expects students to take pictures of every slide because he doesn't want to slow down enough for them to take notes. He gives no indication as to what will be on the test.
Professor Bybee is super kind and helpful. He has tons of knowledge on the subject of biological anthropology! Tests are based on lectures, powerpoint presentations, and the book. If you show up and listen to the lectures, you will succeed. He is kind and really helpful to students wanting to learn.
Dr. Bybee is awesome. He knows his stuff and loves the subject matter. I took one of his Bio 1620 courses a couple of years ago and I still can't recommend him enough. He was super flexible with us this semester since COVID was throwing a wrench into things. The tests have some challenging questions, but are mostly straight off slides.
Prof. Bybee is so knowledgeable about Bio Anthropology, so he has a wealth of information that he covers. Because he is passionate about biology it translates to the students. I loved his lectures because he would take our random curious questions and run with them. He brought in skulls and bones. He is very kind and caring too. Great professor!
Bybee is one of my favorite professors I've had. He knows his stuff backward and forward. He's very funny, and he's always willing to answer your questions. You are only graded on tests in Bybee's class, so you should know how to study if you want to succeed. Also, be prepared for some mild roasting.
Dr. Bybee is the best professor I've ever had. Everything on the exams is underlined or bolded on the slides, he's obviously very passionate and knowledgable about what he teaches. Encourages questions and gives detailed answers. I'm taking a class from him next semester because I want the chance to learn from him again. Can't recommend enough10/10
Bybee has so far been my favorite teacher at UVU. I will warn you, the only grades you get are from tests so if you are a bad test taker you may want to avoid it, although he curved it for us at the end. As long as you go to class, pay attention to the slides, and stay up on studying (maybe 15 min a day) you should be able to get a good grade.
He is funny and very knowledgeable, but I can't keep up with his lectures. He is very monotone so it gets hard to stay focused. No canvas content at all and basically grades you for 4 tests and an assignment. He flies through power points and is unclear with a lot of topics. He expects students to take pictures of every slide and study from there.
The textbook is used A LOT! He'll have you underline important concepts that he'll ask you to look over on your own for the exam. Lectures are also very interesting but he can ramble and go off topic sometimes. He's very helpful and will take any necessary time to help clarify. Grades are only determined by exams and a writing assignment.
Professor Bybee is pretty great, but he desperately needs to modernize. Nothing except for a basic syllabus on Canvas. Show up and pay attention, or you will fail without question. He covers an astonishing amount of material and it's difficult to know exactly what to take notes on, which sucks since the tests are 100% from your notes.
He just likes to hear himself talk. His test were based on his powerpoints that were hard to follow. He was considerate that the whole class did poor on his test since they were really hard and let us do a group final with open notes and we still didn't get 100%. He is knowledgeable and I learned things. I just didn't like his teaching style.
He is quite the character, very funny. We had 3 tests total and 3 written papers. He would go over his slides that we take pictures of during class. (he doesn't post or send them out). Our final is a group test (and open notes) which was very nice. He cares more about learning than tests. He is very passionate about biology
Dr. Bybee is very kind. His lectures can be difficult to get through as he is pretty monotone. I wish we had more time in the lab... We were graded on 4 tests and a book report, so be sure to do well on these as its all you'll be graded on. Show up, do the work, ask good questions, and you'll be fine.
Good professor but doesn't post anything on canvas so you don't know what your grade is.
I do think that this is a great professor! He is very helpful and caring! the only thing that I had a hard time with was that he lectures heavy.
Prof. Bybee is one of my favorite professors I've had at UVU. I looked forward to going to class every day. His knowledge is astounding and he is happy to discuss any questions students have. That being said, he expects you to put in the work. It's not an easy A, but an A is possible if you put in the work. Study hard, and you'll do fine.
Bybee is a pretty cool old guy. But,,,with that said he's not the best professor. The slides need to be modernized. Having whole paragraphs from the textbook on the slides is not very helpful. His teaching style is confusing as well. I never know exactly what I need to study for the exams. Having weekly quizzes would help to give us a guideline.
Dr. Bybee is such a nice guy and really cares about what he teaches, and he's funny too. He doesn't like tests and does what he can to help you out with them. What's difficult is that he teaches lecture only, and teaches a LOT of material all at once. It's hard to keep up, and its hard to be engaged. He needs to have more interaction-based teaching
Prof. Bybee is quite the character - super knowledgeable and engaging, but the class requires consistent effort. Attending lectures, studying regularly, and utilizing resources like unstuck study helped me stay on top of the material and earn a solid grade.
He doesn't put anything on canvas so I have no idea what my grade is in the class and have no idea what I got on the tests. The class has 2 assignments and 4 tests so your entire grade is based on the tests. I would not take a class from him again because I can't handle not knowing what my grade in the class is.
Listen, It took a lot of effort and study. Bybee is a Genius in his field and funny but the class is a lot of information and he doesn't share the slides or give study guides. (take photos of them and use quizlet to study(there are some quizlets specifically for his tests)). Attendance not required but you can't afford to miss a day.
Amazingly helpful, understanding, and willing to do much compared to other professors. Attendance was a must as the notes weren't on canvas but the test answers were exactly what he said to take notes on in class. There were only chill 2 projects and 4 tests so be just prepared and you'll be fine.
He does not care about you as a learner. All he wants to do is push you through and get the class over with. Don't expect any sympathy. The average grade on every test was 62%.
Tough class. No grades were ever posted on Canvas, and no lecture slides were provided—we had to take photos during class. The course was super test-heavy with little to no resources to study from. Hard to keep up, and there wasn't much support outside of lectures.
** Be Warned!! If you are pre-med or pre-dental, getting an A in Bybee's class is not a realistic goal! ** No textbook, no course outline, literally nothing posted to canvas (including grades). A typical lecture is 150+ slides, each slide is 3-5 paragraphs of text in 8 point font. There is *no* additional study material provided in this class!
He was a fun teacher to learn from, but nothing is in Canvas, and the class is mostly taking notes and memorizing them for each test. He does tell you pretty much exactly what is going to be tested on, but it is still difficult to memorize anything. If you're looking for an easy credit, this isn't it.
Bybee does not use canvas at all which is very inconvenient. Lecture slides are crammed with so much fluff (in 8pt font I might add) they are near-incomprehensible. He moves so fast through slides, taking notes is very difficult and requires you to take pictures in order to dissect the slides for the information that actually matters.
This class is so unorganized that getting an A is an unrealistic goal, which is completely unacceptable and stupid. He does not use canvas at all and doesn't post grades until the very end of the semester. His slides are awful. This class honestly needs to be reviewed by the university and be brought up to modern standards
I will say that it's true that his lectures do have a lot of fluff, but all the material you need to know will be underlined and/or bolded. If I missed a day, I found them on Canvas under Media. He's a funny and caring professor. Type all underlined and bolded material into a doc and paste into an quiz generator, and you'll do well on the exams.
