If you get this teacher ask him about the water buffalo!- Really good guy once you get to know him...

Paul is awesome. This guy has 4 degrees and comes across as a regular guy. Nice brainiac!

Paul is easy going and likes to share his personal experiences with his class. He is very down to earth and has a genuine interest in health in fitness. He motivated me to take a better look at my diet and exercise regime.
Paul is a stud. He's a good guy that cares about the students
Paul has been one of my favorite teachers ever. He is so helpful and understanding and likes to give extensions if needed. He is very smart and funny.
if you get this teacher decide early if you can understand him and be prepared to do alot of self teaching
Physiology was my favorite class but the hardest course ever. You have to do a lot of self-reading and self exercises. ASK lots of questions, sit in front rows, and check your old exams to review stuff. Notes tend to be posted late or at last minute before class. Have your own notes prepared. STUDY!
Very unfair marker, deducts marks for ridiculous reasons, a 90% mark in any other class will get a 45% with him. Hard to understand, and goes through material a mile a minute. I'm warning you now if you get him..drop his class. I wish I would've before it turned out too late.
What a funny guy
Simply put: ONE OF THE FUNNIEST PPL TO EVER WALK THE PLANET. Very much enjoyed both 102 and 200. Tough to understand at first, but you get the hang of it. And for all those in 102, look forward to the reproduction classes. :) :)
Class fun, due to total lack of clarity in what he is saying. Random stories from planning his life on his way to kindergarten class, to the countless "VebCT" references. Be careful of final...He wont mention half of the things that are on it. Watch for grey sweater, track suit.
He's good and for once a teacher with an accent that I can understand. He cares which also helps.
Great guy! One of the best teachers I've ever had. Interesting class. The final is a bit tricky.
great guy, one of the funniest people ever. Hard material for PEDS 200 and 102, unclear and disorganized. Classic case of good guy, bad prof.
Paul is a nice guy and he tries to be helpful. Sometimes he is really hard to understand. Classes are pretty boring. Not someone I really liked but not someone that I really didnt like either. Pretty Meh teacher
Seems like an easy class, but there is so much work involved. Daily journals, weekly summaries... can he really expect that we have nothing else better to do? Easy marks, but be ready to throw away your life to get all your assignments done. There's alot of them...
fricken amazing guy
Paul Chahal is the funniest guy I have ever met. Whoever said class is boring, obviously does not have a sense of humour. I can't wait for next term to be in his class again. It is a hard class sometimes, but only because its content rich, not because of the teacher. Paul is the best!!!
Funniest Guy ever
Really nice guy can be hard to understand at times but is always willing to clarify. Expects alot out of students. Studying for his exams are a must! Especially th final.
Expects a lot of effort for only minimal marks. Exams are a lot more difficult than expected from course material. Just expect to be doing a lot of work and he?s not always that fast at returning student?s work. Posts notes on WebCT but you have to go to class to get all the important parts to the notes (like fill in the blanks)
Hard to understand, but can be pretty funny. One major thing i didnt like was his practice exams werent very much like his finals even though he said they would be similar
Hard to understand. Fails to explain the point clearly. Too smart for the class. Does not spend enough time on each topic. Just overall not good at teaching.
IF YOU HAVE HIM, SWITCH OUT. That's really the best advice I can give you. You wouldn't want him as a teacher. Trust me on this.
Worst prof ever. he seems really cool on the first day, but trust me RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN. He gives you so many pointless assignments(weekly reflections Also he has the students do group projects on topics the class covers so he doesnt have to teach. He told us that the textbook is wrong. His tests are also ridic, dont bother studying, wont help.
Funny prof. A LOT of work for first yr students. Don't need textbook.
I'm a mature student with no Bio or anatomy background and this guy got me the grades I needed. You MUST put in the work, it is worth it. He uses info from the lecture so listen up. Textbook is too in depth so don't stress the readings. Great sense of humor, passionate about his field and genuinely wants you to succeed.
Really good guy. Takes time getting used to his teaching methods, but once you figure it out he's an awesome teacher. Make sure you get all the powerpoint stuff down, and you should do fine. He also gives check lists for exams which is incredibly helpful. Looking forward to another physiology class with him next semester. Yay Paul!!
Paul is by far one of the best profs at MacEwan. There is a lot of work in his class, but nothing extremely hard. Put the time in (like with any class) and you'll be fine. Very funny and helpful. I'm going to miss him!
Funnest. Man. Alive.
Paul is a really fun guy, and will help you with anything you need.. He really yearns for student learning. His classes are not GPA boosters unless you study extremely hard. Review your notes every day (and not just before midterms/finals) and you will do just fine- his exams are VERY detailed so you need to know your stuff really well.
whatever he says in class doesn't always match with what the textbook is saying. his tests are from the lectures completely, takes thorough notes and study them and you'll be fine. once you get used to him, you figure out that he puts tricky questions to make sure you were listening in class and sometimes the wording is not the best.
One of the most honest, best guys ever. Best prof I've ever had. Love this guy!
I really enjoyd Paul I thought he was a great teacher. You really need to pay attention to his lectures because a lot of the questions come from his slides and what he mentions in class. He can be a pretty hard marker but if you know your material you should be fine. He also gave us our long answer questions for final ahead of time.
Really nice and helpful. Impossible to understand in class. Basically used my textbook to teach myself the entire course b/c couldnt undertand his notes. Asks some stupid questions that seem unimportant when studying, but end up on the test
Paul is a good teacher and a good guy all around. He has a sense of humour and I'm never bored in his classes. He'll make you do hours of pointless assignments every week though, but they are easy marks. Pay attention in class, put in some effort (easy material), and you'll get an A. Recommended.
Very hard. Pay attention in class as much as you can, he asks questions from the lecture on his exams. Study sessions are EXTREMELY helpful and if you dont go to them you will fail the written. You have to study like crazy, the exams are really hard.
Super easy class if you attend. Uses fill in the blank notes and gives lots of hints as to what will be on the exam. Super sweet guy as well, he is not hard to understand y'all are big babies.
Horrible horrible horrible!!!! If you want to take this class, don't take it with him, unless you want to 3x extra the amount of work for no reason. All he talks about are stupid life stories and complains about his marking. I recommend this class but with any other teacher
Don't take this class with him. He contradicts himself all the time and doesn't give a straight answer. All life stories that don't apply.
I will never take one of Paul's classes again.I went into it as a GPA booster and came out of it with a C-, i usually get a's.He makes you do hours of stupid assignments and takes months to get them back to you.He tests you on irrelevant material and if you don't know numbers & percents.. you may as well drop the course. Nice man, awful professor.
Paul's class requires a lot of assignments. he has fill in the blanks notes, and at times he does tell the students what would be on the exam. If you review his notes constantly, you will do great! I thought there was just a lot of material to know,so it was time consuming to understand everything. He is an ok prof. FYI, 79-84 is a B+
Didn't like him at at.
ignore what everyone says about paul! i love him! I'm a mature 2nd year student and i found his class easy, just keep up in class and read the text on notes he provides and you'll do fine! also write down what he says in class! he gives away lots of answers to his exams and has study sessions which give you the answers=easy marks. highly recommend!
I studied my butt off for this class, but it really only does so much. His tests are extremely hard and you MUST come to class and MUST attend the study sessions or you will fail. Badly. I really like him as a person though, he's so kind and very funny. Ask him for help and he will help you!
Paul's a great teacher. keep in mind that attendance isn't mandatory but it is worth it to go every class. he goes through everything in great detail and keeps you writing notes over notes. his tests are hard but if you attend every class as well as his midterm review classes you will do fine. his accent is a bit heavy but it's still clear
Paul is a great professor. The material is tough but he gives his students every opportunity to do well. You MUST attend his lectures. He gives a lot of hints and questions as to what will be on the exam. Make sure you use the tools (topic checklist, practice quizzes, study sessions) he provides you with. If you put in the effort, you will do well.
awesome teacher, really detailed notes, got off topic sometimes and tells weird stories sometimes wasting class time. Gives you hints on whats going to be on his tests. Also does study sessions literally explaining how to get 100% on the written part of exams. Tests are pretty easy and straight forward, I've gotten 80+ on both midterms.
Paul is a great teacher! You must go to class in order to pass. The material is interesting but difficult if you aren't paying attention. Must study for this class! Paul tells you exactly what is on the exam as long as you go to class. Just keep on top of things and you will do fine
He assigns a lot of assignments...I think too much for what the class is worth. He spend the lectures relating the material a lot to his own personal life which gets boring after a while. He is very nice and helpful to his students but sometimes gets off track. The tests are hard.
Paul is a quite a character. He constantly laughs at his own jokes relating to the material and it's a good time. Sometimes get off topic. If you're not in class there's no way you'll pass. It's a hard class in general, but if you show up to his extra study sessions you will get 100% on written - must put in the time!
He's a really good prof! Extremely nice but you can expect A LOT of assignments, but they are easy mark boosters. You really have to put in time and attend his classes since most of his test questions are from his lectures. He always gives hints and prepares study outlines for the midterm and final! But you have to study in order to get a good mark
Paul is an awesome Prof! He makes attending class very enjoyable with his positive energy and humor. The multiple choice on his midterms are very tough, but if you attend his study sessions you are guaranteed 100% on the written if you put the effort in. Labs are only twice a semester and are very interesting, pertain to the topics in lecture.
I love Paul, great guy with a great personality. Very passionate about Physiology. Is willing to help students whenever he is available. Gives tons of information in class and during out of class study sessions. Tests are hard but fair.
Paul really cares about his students, and tries to make things clear but it isn't very effective. He makes everything hard to understand in class, and expects a lot of it to be "common sense". Half the final was on a subject he "taught" to us on the last day of class. Hardest class Ive ever taken, and Paul didn't really make it any easier.
Paul is a great professor. However, I took this class as an elective, and he told us first day of class, that if this was our elective, "Jokes on us." He was right. Content heavy material, numbers and percentages are so important (there are so many of them). His midterm was hard, and the class had a very low average (60s). He seemed pleased. :(
Awesome prof, cares about his students and makes an effort to get to know names and will chat you up outside of class. If you put effort in you will do well.
Tough grader and one of the worst profs. Although, he gives hint but our final exam study session was waste of time because all the written questions we studied were not what he gave us on the final exam.
Paul definitely makes you work for your grade. Physiology can't be expected to be easy and to get a good grade, as with any class, it is important to put the work in. You can't just expect to sit in class and pass- you will definitely fail if that's your outlook. Paul is easily accessible outside of class and is absolutely hilarious!
Honestly, one of my least favourite profs I've had. He never takes attendance but does not post notes online so if you dont go you won't be docked marks but you will not do well on quizzes. He never talks about assignments, so he'll have something due in less than a week and not give you any info on what you are meant to do. NEVER responds emails!!
Paul seems like a great guy. But is definitely the wrong prof to be teaching HEED. His assignments are super easy but his tests are ridiculous. They are unfair and have nothing to do with the material he goes over in class. He also barely explains assignments. I took this class to boost my GPA, now it's making it worse. Don't take HEED with Paul!
He is very lecture heavy. Can tend to switch topics with no rhythm or reason. Can make it tough to understand what he wants the class to know. Wants to see the class do well. Overall he is an okay proff.
Great professor. i did not pay much attention in class and studied very hard for his tests and attended his study sessions and did just fine. His tests are hard but very fair. Great man also. Don't expect this class to be easy
Very good guy and he really wants everyone in the class to do well!! You will definitely have to work hard to get a good grade in this class. He hosts study sessions before exams that are super helpful, but the downside of Paul's teaching is that his notes are disorganized and he is all over the place with his slides, so really pay attention!
great guy!! but for a HEED prof he definitely went a little hard. i took heed as a GPA booster but found it to take most of my time and energy throughout the semester. he has weekly reflection assignments, one group presentation, 2 papers, a midterm and a final. posts his notes online, but does not fill in the blanks.
Super funny teacher. Not a lot of content from class is actually on tests, if it is, its much more in depth than what youve learned.
He's a prof that wants to see his students do well and it shows. He will help where it is needed. On the flip side you can get so lost in his lecture that you aren't sure what class you're taking. you will learn a lot on the benefits of tea.
This class was really hard. Paul is nice, but his lectures are difficult to follow. The labs are interesting, and midterm and lab final was fair. But, his marking is inconsistent when I would see my lab/written marks compared to classmates (sometimes for the better or worse). His final was the most unfair exam I have written and wroth 40%.
Paul is a great guy but his lectures are intense. This was one of the hardest classes I had to work for in order to get an A. I enjoyed the content but it was just so time consuming to study every word that comes out of his mouth since anything he says is a potential exam question... BE PREPARED TO STUDY. Write down everything he says as well.
Paul is a absolutely hilarious guy, but his classes are definitely made to work. You cannot be lazy and do not expect to just slide through and get a easy A, you definitely have to study. If you aren't prepared to work, don't take this class, but it isn't anything harder than what you would normally expect from a university course...
He's a funny and caring guy, but I took this course as a GPA booster. I am taking a full course load (inc. law courses) and I get more work in this class than the rest combined. He has weekly reflection assignments, one group presentation, 2 papers, a midterm and a final.
Paul is probably the best prof I've ever had. He is clear in his teaching, and available whenever you need. An incredibly nice person. The only grades you get in his class is based on midterms and finals, however he gives you the exact written questions and answers for the exams. If you put in effort, you will do very well in his class.
Paul's accent was very difficult to get past. Sometimes he would talk so fast that you couldn't keep up. His powerpoints are only helpful if you come to class every single day. If you don't attend class, that's equivalent to 5% of your course material lost (make sure you have a buddy whom you can copy notes from). Other than that, he's genuine.
Paul tends to be all over the place when it comes to his lectures and will tell you almost every slide will be on either the midterm or final. He generally tests on his own personal knowledge and stuff he will tell you in class so the lectures themselves aren't really necessary. Is very unclear as to what he wants from you for assignments.
Paul is a hilarious prof, and the lectures are detailed, but we're in University and hard work is necessary for a A. If you're looking for a Easy A, do not expect to get it in this class without studying.
Dr. Paul Chahal teaches in probably one of the worst ways a prof can teach in my opinion. It is completely disorganized, with slides that do not make sense. You have to go to class to even somewhat get what the 2 words on his slides mean. The notes I took from every class never make sense because he bounces all over the place and is not cohesive.
He has a heavy accent so sometimes it is hard to understand, and he is very specific on tests, however, he tells you a lot of the stuff that is gonna be on the test and a lot of it is on what he says in class. If you pay attention and do the readings you'll do good.
If you come to class and study youll do well. If you tend to skip classes this is not the class for you. Paul is amazing. Very helpful and knowledgeable
Paul does a good job teaching exercise physiology. He clearly enjoys what he does and gives clear expectations with what he wants. He doesn't allow a formula sheet for his exams which confused me, but the theory questions aren't too bad. Lab stuff and final exam are worth a huge amount of your grade though (80% all together) TAKE THE LABS SERIOUSLY
Paul was an okay prof, tbh. He is very caring about his students and wants every one of them to succeed. This is evident as he hosts study sessions outside of class to go over the material of upcoming exams. Gives really good hints on what to expect on the exams as well. Exams are hard but write down everything he says in lectures then you'll do g
I had Paul for an introductory health class and was wildly disappointed with his online delivery and test difficulty. His test questions are significantly more in-depth than the material provided in class. He also tests heavily on his own talking points which aren't found in the powerpoints. He constantly rambles in lecture videos as well..
Personally as a person outside of school may be a great guy. But as a professor I do not believe he does a great job. Tests are tremendously hard and worded in a way where it is hard to read. He does not use the textbook all tests are based on what he says in class. It is a difficult course and maybe even harder with him as a prof.
His notes do not have enough information compared to the test. He just expects us to know what he is talking about on the test when he never mentions it during class. His notes just have words on it (if that make sense) they don't have any actual information that will help with the tests. It's kind of just a list of examples
Though I think he would be a lovely person outside class, it's hard to be sure of validity. He claims to have cured multiple family members of incurable diseases (eyesight?). Tests are compiled of fun facts, and material is random. Missed a scheduled meeting and blamed me for it (though apologized after I cried). This is not an enjoyableclass
This professor is good person, but his course is very lecture based and the exams are extremely difficult, by far the most difficult exam I've done so far at Grant MacEwan. Says we need the textbook but uses it for only one assignment which is a waste of money for students.
He might know what he is doing, but he is one of the most ignorant profs I have met. He believes that he is an amazing teacher, and criticizes the textbook greatly, then lectures are very heavy, goes very fast. Studying is mandatory and heavy studying as well. He is horrible online, slightly better in person.
Exams are all MC. Know specific details, otherwise you get tricked with the "both" "all" "3 of these" options. Try to fill in the ppt yourself (at least 10 pages or so before class, then add stuff from lectures because it will be on the tests. If you don't read ahead you won't understand lectures. Playfully competive, BUT can get misunderstood.
Read ahead: fill in at least 10 slides in the ppt before each class, confirm what you studied in the lectures, and write extra notes of things he keep repeating in lectures. Test are all MC, but tricky, multiple correct items. Need to know little details. Study sessions and practice tests are in actual exam. Helpful and considerate, just approach.
Lectures are well-prepared and prof really tries to give options to his students for learning. Approach him if you need clarification when you need, he is there to help. lots of information on slides to compliment the information that follow the textbook. very knowledgeable. May seem unapproachable, but quite opposite. Playfully competitive.
Paul is very passionate about his teaching. He provides an enjoyable learning environment and wants all his students to succeed. The written portion of his exams was hefty, but he would host study sessions to help practice gathering information for them. By far the best prof in the program.
He is extremely personable and helpful both in person and over emails. Tests only cover materials he went over during class which is nice but reading the textbook definitely helps with understanding. Exams have MC and written. I find the MC harder than written because the questions are often worded in a tricky way so be careful and double check.
Best prof by far. I was naive to think he's not good when I did bad in our first physio midterm. But soon I realize hes very direct and really only tests on what he covers from lectures. Even hosts study session where he practically gives the written answers. Went from B in the peds101 to A in the second term peds 103 w him.
I did not enjoy it, he doesn't give much information on his slides and when he speaks in class you are unsure what to write down. You have to do a lot of catch up after his lecture because some information isnt made clear, yet you are expected to know. extremely disappointed...
Paul says a lot of information in his lectures and expects you to know every little detail which can become a lot. Invest in the textbook because you will have to reteach yourself a lot of the material because the lectures are not well organized or clear. GO TO HIS STUDY SESSIONS, he gives many exam hints! He is very passionate about the subject!
Paul is a super nice person and he 100% knows his stuff. I personally found his style a bit difficult because he talks a lot during lectures and you aren't sure what is and isn't important, and I felt like what you needed to study wasn't quite as clear as other classes. Nonetheless he cares a ton about his students and is genuinely super sweet
Paul is incredibly passionate about what he teaches. His teaching style can be a bit hard to get used to, as he often jumps between topics. He also helps students outside of class and goes into more detail when needed, and hosts study sessions, which you should 100% go to. He's a great prof, just make sure you put in the effort on your end too.
