Cool Guy, Highly recommend
No Comments
he is british, what more do you want
I've had easier teachers - he was hilarious though!
GREAT!
Pretty Funny
This guy is a ****, he is the coolest dude ever and loves to blow **** up
Hilariou!!! Love it when he blows up stuff!
Interesting British Chemist who once told me his mom was hot... good teacher overall
great teacher, funny guy
awesome. best teacher i had. only problem is that its for first year students. not like you get to pick him. classes are cake if you pay attention
Entertaining lectures and a cool guy
Cool guy- Exams were hard, but that was probably my fault for not studying enough during the year.
Cool guy. Tells bad jokes, but for some reason they're funny. He likes to blow things up...
pretty decent guy that keeps things interesting in a big lecture class, but the tests are rediculous and he's not always very clear. Overall a decent teacher.
He teaches pretty well and with web assign everything is really easy, even though his exams are pretty hard. he's really nice too.
Hell yes. This guy is the bomb. Chem can be a tough class for first year students, but he does a great job explaining it. Experiments are fun too: he once left a foot-diameter black spot on the ceiling of Fisher 135.
DONT GET HIM IF YOU CAN HELP IT!!!!
The effort you put in is what you get out as a grade for sure.If you do and STUDY the mock exam, you ace the exam. All he does is changes the numbers, and maybe inverses the concept questions, don't waste your time studying other things!Lectures entertain
pay attention in lecture, do some problems, piece of cake
Excellent teacher, very funny, very easy going, loves to blow stuff up. Thought provoking and yet interesting. Highly recommended
Best Teacher at tech. Very clear and always willing to help! Lectures were great. Could speak English. Test's were as expected. If you study you will be fine. You get what you put in and he wants it that way, or so it seems. RECOMMEND HIGHLY!!!!
pretty good teacher
i don't know why we're rating him, there's not really a choice of professors here. anyway, i liked him
Cool guy. Loves blowing stuff up! Worth going to class to see stuff blowing up...
Lectures are extremely boring. Bring a pillow to them.
The man goes too fast. If you haven't had chemistry before your in for a world of hurt with this englishman
understanding, he makes sure you get the grade you deserve
This class was hard, but not by the fault of the teacher. He taught the material well.
He has a cool accent and great sense of humor. He gives easy extra credit. Paul rocks!
YOU DON"T HAVE TO GO TO CLASS TO GET AN "A." I went to class 10 times throughout both semesters (CH1110 and CH1120) and got an "A." hahahaha...take him and you'll see what I mean!
Good lectures with the occasional spiffy demo. He usually taught the material well, but he should go slower on the equilibrium chapter.
Great teacher! Keeps class interesting with a sense of humor and some nice demos!
Excellent instructor. Helpful and responsive. Always willing to take questions and explain things so all understand.
Get in his Chem class!
writes extremely hard tests over material never covered in class. it is too difficult to get any help out of him, and he likes putting trick questions on exams. if you think any of the test answers are that easy... think again
So easy, it was probably bad for me. I did not show up to class once after the first exam, except to take other exams and I still got an A. His pre-tests have similar problems if not the same problems you will see on the exams. I got to sleep in past 11 thanks to this guy.
i hate this man
Very good teacher, and easy to get along with. Exams are tough. No worries though, he has ressurection points. This means you can fail every exam, do well on the final and get that grade in the class. The final has problems pulled right off the previous exams, study them and you have an easy A.
Funny guy, great in class demos, tries to keep lectures humorous
Fun prof. Easy class, easy tests, even easier worksheets. Took it over the summer so the semester was mashed into a month only, but was still as easy as anything. Take him if you can.

Dr. Charlesworth is an awesome instructor. he lets you work together and also with the book on quizzes
Class was easy, only showed up for exams after the first exam. Failed all the tests, but he has reserection points and the final is made of questions from the tests. Failing going into the final and ended up with an B.
This guy is a very fun instructor. You will be keept interested in his class your whole semester. Hes awsome.
This is a real fun guy who keeps the class paying attention and gets accross the valuable information needed for the higher class. Always does some sort of expirment usually involving an explosion of some kind. Quizes are easy since you can work in groups, and the exams are reasonable too.

I took AP Chem in HS so this was cake for me. 5-5-5 all around. Summer semester is probally easier thanks to <15 class size anyways. Labs were fun. Enjoyed the triple-point one the most. water boiling then freezing simultaneously... kewl! Good to see at least some profs at Tech utilize the technology available today. go PPTs and Apple laptops!
Lots of fun demos, he really liked to blow stuff up and make fire =]
Paul is pretty freakin' sweet.
Class wasnt too bad. Hes a good professor who will help you out if you ask. Can be boring sometimes, but explosive demos are always a good way to wake people up. Really dont need your own book too much. Its not worth $100 when you rarely use it. Just borrow one. Better than Pat Heiden!!
Don't, I repeat, don't take class from this professor...he sucks. The only good part about the class was the demos, and even those weren't the best. HE MADE CLASS VERY BORING
Seems to be a professor who doesn't care if you get what's going on or not. You are expected to do most on your own.
This professor was really nice and understanding. If you keep up with the material and do the homework you should be fine. Sometimes he can ramble about non related things, but overall he is a really cool guy. I would take another class from him in a minute.
Good day mate, im feeling swell wat bout u? Your a good lad, a bit chummy but a great chump indeed!!!!!!
Just so u all know he lets you use notes, books, friends during the quiz's. He is very helpful, and has some sense of humor which I found entertaining. Over all he is a good prof.
good prof. uses demonstrations to reinforce material. they are usually cool.
He is pretty good, and has a sweet accent
Very good teacher
Helped me understand concepts I struggled with all through high school. Excellent teacher, makes class interesting, I highly recommend taking gen chem with him if possible.
Really cool guy with an awesome British accent. Gives open note/book/friend quizzes every Friday that are really helpful.
Very fun Professor who likes to to some really cool demonstrations almost every day. The Classes fly by. Get a front row seat!
Funny as all get-out! British, so he says stuff like "nasty-gram" and calls "H" Hache.
British and easy to follow. Straight grader come exam time, which are the only difficulties in the class (3 exams plus final). Online homework, daily iClickers. Numerous demonstrations and jokes make s time go by quickly. Provides copies of slides to follow along with.
Does some awesome demos and really knows his chemistry. Most Classes are interesting enough that you don't even look at the clock. (If you afraid of explosions I wouldn't recommended him)
British humor and demos are great. Go to class, study some and you should do all right. Exams can be challengin, but are pretty fair for the most part.
Great teacher, the British humor and fun demo's keep the class interesting. Exams can be a bit tough, and the online homework is super frustrating but overall he is a great teacher and is willing to help you with any problem you have.
Abosolutley the worst teacher i have had in my college career he is an arrogant professor who thinks the world owes him something. Do not take a class from him.
His exams are tough, but the grading system makes it easy to pass with a decent grade. Do the homework and pick up points by going to class
He is a good teacher that tries to make the subject fun. He moves fast but he is always willing to slow down if youve got questions. For all those there whining about doing stuff on your own, this is a COLLEGE LEVEL course and he does not dumb down the stuff so that you can keep up. Youre expected to learn outside of class. Thats what college is.
lots of demos fun to listen to but you need to do lots of out of class work to teach your self the material but he was a good teacher
Terrible. Very rude when you try to talk to him.
Ehh... it wasn't terrible. It's a lot of work, a good slap in the face for incoming freshmen. A lot of people refer to it as a "weeder" course, which is very true. Charlesworth is a funny guy, and he was just about the only thing that kept me remotely interested in the class.
Hard class, great professor. I think he was great at teaching, but it was just tough material.
I loved him as a professor in UChem I, but when it came to UChem II he had no clue what he was talking about and made doing well in the class a challenge. His exams were impossible. The only way I got a good grade in the class was because he offered redemption points on the final. Was not helpful in class, just read off his slides.
For U-Chem 1 he does a decent job of explaining the material, though some time outside of class is needed to brush up on certain topics. Exams get progressively harder, though the online practice exams are good indicators of how you will do. The demos in class are awesome though.
Charlesworth is an OG. Funny, helpful, and genuinely wants to see students pass. Trolls a little on exams, but there's a curve at the end of the class. Cool demos, cool accent -- classic British dude. iClicker work is annoying. Sometimes belabors the point in example problems. Class is not hard if you put forth some effort.
I took U. Chem I last semester and did alot better than I thought I would all semester. He curved the class at the end which bumped my grade up a bit. But now for U. Chem. II I find that it is SO MUCH more difficult than the first class. The exams are ridiculously hard, while the reviews given online are nothing like the exam. read the book!
If your not a lazy, you can get by in the class just fine. He is always willing to help students that at least somewhat have a understanding of the question, hes not gonna give you the answer thats not what profs are for. Overall a great teacher, not to mention all the demos.
If you do your work and ask reasonable questions, Charlesworth's class is pretty easy to pass. You get over one third of the grade just from homework, and the exams pretty much match the homework and old exams.
Charlesworth is an excellent professor for the large class he teaches. Obviously he can't help everyone, and the CLC and SI sessions help. I think it's a well structured class, with reasonable exam reviews and exams.
Did not like the way the class was taught but he was a good teacer. Alawys welcomed questions in class and out of class. Nice guy, friendly, and helpful!
He is good teacher and very funny guy) Explains very well, tries to make everything clear to everyone
Good Teacher, Very Sarcastic
He was always really helpful when I had questions. It took me a while to get used to the flipped classroom, but once I did it was nice to have out-of-class access to the lectures.
He's British and loves flamethrowers. He uses the flipped classroom approach, which is okay once you get used to it. And he pulls most of his homework questions from the internet. The exams aren't too hard. They're easier if you get practice exams from the CLC to become familiar with his exam questions.
I definitely did not like his method of teaching. Outside of class we would watch the recorded lectures and take quizzes, while in the lecture we would answer i-Clicker questions. If the i-Clicker questions weren't worth points, I would not go to class because I did not get anythin out of it.
He is a very cool and funny teacher. Probably one of the best chemistry teachers here. He was the only teacher I had that curved the final grade.
The iclickers were nice for review but shouldn't have been counted for attendance, just my two cents. I say this due to the "flipped classroom" learning-meaning his recorded videos gave plenty of explanation, and his lectures were just going over what we had to previously watch the night before. Was fun to watch the in class explosions! Nice guy!
Often has interesting, if not strange, stories about things like skating and palm trees made from paper.
I'm an electrical engineer, but I would take another class from Professor Charlesworth gladly. One of the most interesting and enjoyable professors I've ever had.
He is a very funny, and sometimes odd, professor. He covers material very quickly, so don't forget to strap on your helmet. I would take another class by him.
You watch all the lectures online before you go to the class and take quizzes worth 10 points on them. GO TO CLASS because he has iclicker questions that help provide clarity and give a few bonus points :)
He does not teach much in class just examples
Terrible teaching method. Flipped classroom was too hard to keep up in my opinion. He was a very nice guy. My only issue is that he expects we know more than I did; but that might be my own fault or my high schools fault for not teaching full material. Funny, nice, fun to go to class.
good professor
Very nice and funny professor. However, I do not like the flipped classroom. You need to go to class because the iclickers are easy points to boost your grade. The exams are challenging as he may only mention something once and it is on the exam.
The pseudo flipped classroom took a while to get used to, but it is going well now. I like that he goes over problems and is giving us homework out of the book, and testing us on them.
Definitely an awesome guy. He can be pretty sassy though if you ask a question about exams. It's a difficult class, but as long as you pay attention you're good.
really cool guy i'd get a beer with him sometime also pretty good at chemistry
Charlesworth is absolutely adorable, and although his classwork is difficult and demanding, his little quirks can make your day. Make sure to study the details for his exams - they're hard. Take advantage of all the out-of-class resources he offers you!
best teacher ever
Charlesworth is a great professor who really knows what he's talking about. He keeps the class interesting with funny anecdotes that always make you pay attention. The tests can be difficult because there is a lot to memorize, but the homework and test questions are pretty straightforward. Overall, I would definitely take one of his classes again.
Charlesworth is a pretty good professor. He is very clear and will explain things in more detail if you ask him for help. Do yourself a favor and take notes from his powerpoint slides BEFORE he goes over it in class. Do the bookwork. Go to the CLC. USE THE TEXTBOOK or you will die.
Paul is a hilarious guy, an he makes Chem 1 less stressful than it could be with hilarious comments and cool demonstrations. The class is pretty rigorous for a 1000 level, and I personally didn't enjoy the semi-flipped class, but he does a good job at teaching it.
He provides an interesting class. His lectures are informational but most of the learning comes from videos online.
I had him for UChem I. The class it's self is a terrible bore and super hard to keep up in if you start slacking. However, Charlesworth himself is a phenomenal teacher. He does all he can to try and keep things interesting. He adds humor and pretty kool experiments.
His accent is awesome and if you go to lecture you will learn. Good teacher, sometimes funny.
He builds this mountain for you in lecture that you say "hey, I can do this if I put the hard work in" and you go on climbing that mountain, reading the chapters, doing practice problems, and preparing for online quizzes. Then your eyes meet the final exam and you realize he was on top of an entirely different (insert profanity) mountain.
Charlesworth always keeps the classroom interesting! He uses the flipped classroom method, so make sure you have plenty of time for studying on your own.
Great Prof, lot of people hate chemistry, but he made it entertaining on days and can actually explain things so they're understandable.
He is a great professor. He does a lot of examples in class, but this means you have to spend A LOT of time out of class learning the material. Learn the material a day or two before it is covered in class. UChem I was by far the hardest class, but Charlesworth makes hard points easy and is a funny professor to boot.
CH1150 is a difficult class, but Charlesworth handles it well. More work is placed on the student, but Charlesworth is always available to help. He makes the class interesting and funny in almost every lecture. It is one of the hardest freshman classes, but taught by one of the best professors.
Paul is great, he's funny and great at communicating. However, his class is tough, it is definitely a weed out class at tech. My advice, don't procrastinate the homework, watch the video's outside of class, do the clickr questions, and you'll pass.
Dr. Charlesworth's U Chem 1 class is at least as hard as any class I've ever taken. Keeping up with the class is absolutely critical. The videos he posts on Canvas are extremely helpful and worth watching before lectures. Read the textbook and do your homework *before* the week of the exam. Did I mention to read the textbook? Read the textbook.
He is likely your only choice, but he is amazing
Charlesworth is a great professor and a funny guy that often gets some hate for the class he teaches. This is definitely a weed out class and many people that take it will fail, but if you work for it, you can make it. Exams are pretty rough but often curved, don't get discouraged if you get a 50 on the first exam. Go to the chem. learning center!
Terrible teacher, you will have to teach yourself the whole class. Seems like a good teacher at first, but later you realize he actually does not teach the class but merely comments on how easy the problems are to do and then glosses over how to do them.
Charlesworth teaches in the biggest lecture hall. 15% of your grade is iClicker questions from class where you get a point for simply answering whether right or wrong. This course relies heavily on exams, 70% of your grade, and the other 15% is online homework assignments/quizzes. He's very laid back and his joy of teaching carries through.
End of 2nd yr student and still the hardest class. It did not make sense to me. I went to every class, every recitation, and additionally chemistry tutoring. Failed almost every exam, with a 60% or less. Some do good, many do terrible. Several of my friends flunked out, I passed w/ a decent grade because of homework and quizzes.
Charlesworth is an amazing professor, but the class is hard. Homework heavy course load with mandatory lecture attendance. He walks things through very clearly, though. I couldn't imagine getting through chemistry with any other professor.
Charlesworth is a real gem
He is a good professor and knows his stuff but the class structure is terrible. Teaching chemistry to hundreds of engineering majors across every discipline just doesn't work. UChem1 seems like a hit or miss; I studied quite a lot, spent time outside class and went to the review sessions and still never did well on any of the exams
If you want to hear about Thursday night skating stories, Paul Charlesworth is the guy for you. If you want to teach yourself chem and sit through pointless lectures just for iclicker points, Paul Charlesworth is the guy for you. If you want to take a class that has the highest fail rate at Michigan Tech, Paul Charlesworth is the guy for you
Amazing professor, made chemistry bearable.
Overall awesome prof, I highly recommend going to all lectures because he explains everything better in person rather than his videos on canvas. Also, I highly, highly recommend using the book and reading through the chapters. I wish I would've realized how helpful it was earlier in the semester!
Paul is the best professor I've ever had. He takes does something incredibly challenging - teaching a 300 person lecture - and makes it fun. If you work really hard (and really like chemistry), you should be able to get an A. Whether or not you did terrible in the class, one thing is certain - this man is beloved by everyone.
The best thing about the class is Dr Charlesworth.
The professor expected you stay current on the material and work at it before you ask questions. Otherwise he was helpful and understanding when you were confused.
DO AS MANY PRACTICE PROBLEMS AS YOU CAN, be it from online, his examples in & out of class, or from previous exams, just do as many as you can. although it is not as easy as passively learning through just watching his vids, it is really the only way to succeed in this (and many STEM) class, but worth it. iClicker & online quizzes are easy points
Professor Charlesworth is so entertaining during class and really makes it worthwhile to go. Although the coursework is a little difficult it pushes you to be a better student overall.
Paul is a very good lecturer. I recommend watching the modules before class as he advises. I've found that my friends who didn't do well on the tests were behind on the modules the whole time. I did also go to SI and CLC appointments.
60-70% of your grade is tests, but the rest can be made up with fairly easy online homework and iclicker questions in class. So if you bomb a test you don't have to sweat it too much.
Lectures give you everything you need to pass, but outside preparation is needed to achieve higher grades. He offers many options for help outside of class.
Entertaining, but hard to follow along. The slides were helpful, but discussed more topics that weren't on the exams than those that were.
Great prof to have my first semester of college. Was always very helpful and encouraged questions. Main complaint is the iclickers, not that they were hard, i just found them annoying.
He makes each class enjoyable and entertaining. He interacts with students and talks about interests and other nonsense before the course starts. Truly a great professor and an amazing man.
Charlesworth is a real gem. He obviously has a lot of passion for chemistry which makes learning it with him much more fun. Hes very kind and goes through lots of clicker examples during class so you have an idea of how to do them in the exams.
Fun class! Had it over zoom and the chat was always crazy but I thought the iclicker questions were very helpful as well as the videos on canvas. Another tip is to go to the SI sessions, they help a lot.
U Chem is not easy. But I would'nt take it with anyone else. Paul is fun and he knows what hes talking about. The exams are not easy but you get 2 hours for them and they are open book and open note. So long as you can do the homework you will be fine. Use the CLC , its very helpful and will teach you what you dont know or help when your stuck.
I wouldn't want to take the class with anyone else. U Chem is really hard but he made me feel like I was doing great, even though the struggle. He keeps lectures entertaining but content-heavy. He values concepts over memorization. He allows note cards, which is really helpful. A very popular professor with his students. There was a fan discord.
Very funny and pleasant to be around. Also a very good and knowledgable professor.
The prof is so funny he makes going to class worth it. He posts note videos before class so you can pretty much do the class at your own pace. I promise you will like this man, even if you don't like chemistry, he will make you enjoy class with a little bit of learning in there.
A LOT of work outside of class. If you can find a good recitation section, find one. If you can make it to the SI sessions, go. All four exams were online, open book with two attempts and there was no final. Can turn in the homeworks super late but don't get behind on them because you'll suddenly have 12 due at midnight.
Really fun prof, but it can be challenging, especially if there's information covered in one of his videos.
The digital formatting changes made the class more convenient for everyone, especially with quarantining. He's quite humorous. The only reason I went to class was to sit with my friends, get iClicker points, and listen to him talk about chemistry while taking notes. Way too many people for a chemistry class though. But freshies increasing in number
Attendance not mandatory but you get points for practice problems during lecture. Do the homework and go to the learning center. Exams arent fun but you get two attempts. Open note, open book. I dislike chem as a subject but his teaching made it less painful than it could be. Seems like a genuine guy.
Make sure to do all the iclickers and smart work assignments, they have a huge affect on your grade. There are plenty of resources outside of class if you don't understand a concept the way he explained it. All exams are online.
The class was a lot of work, as to be expected with most chemistry courses, but Professor Charlesworth made the class bearable by explaining things well, being flexible about due dates, and having a good sense of humor in lectures.
I loved Charlesworth. He was hilarious and really fun to talk to. He was easily accessable outside of class and responded to canvas very frequently. Only thing is I don't feel like I learned much from his class. He only read slides and then moved on. Most of the learning came from reading the textbook.
CH 1150 wasn't easy, and you've really got to pay attention during the lectures.
Granted, for my major I really did not need this class, but my friends who did all suffered at the hands of Charlesworth. This man is infamous in the chemistry learning center for making ridiculously hard tests that students don't even know how to solve. Also beware, if you get below the first test average, he will mark your midterm grades as UN.
Lots of people love the guy and he certainly is friendly enough, but I struggled because he just read off the slides and didn't teach much at all. He used only chemistry vocab which was often confusing because he didn't talk in plain English much if at all. I wouldn't have done well except for having taken basically the same class in high school.
Classes are quite a lot of work because you to do videos and homework on Canvas, and then go to class and cover problems using iclicker. Once i started working through the material in the order he has it, and started attending his office hours with questions it all came together. Super approachable and always seemed happy to answer questions.
He's hilarious and good at what he does, everyone loves Paul.
Good class but a tough one.
The lectures in this class are kind of hard to follow sometimes but Paul does a pretty good job at explaining things. He is accessible outside of class at the learning center, and he will help you with homework problems there. Paul is funny so he makes the class a bit more bearable, because most engineering majors have to take chem 1.
Paul has fairly good and in depth lectures. Be sure to show up to class to do the in class assignment on Iclicker. Homework is fairly straightforward as you can look online or in the book. Exams are the hardest part of this course, but if you have somewhat of an understanding of the material you should be able to get a B.
The class is mainly by online learning and work and the tests are very difficult. Go to lectures because that is where you can gain back the i-clicker points.
The class is structured so that any student can pass with the right amount of effort. The grading scale is forgiving, there are many second-chance attempts on tests and review assignments, and there are a plethora of resources provided to students if they struggle. There also many online resources for personal studying/homework.
He's pretty chill, all of the homework and exams were done on the computer.
Paul was a great professor and very knowledgeable in chemistry. Very helpful and always offering opportunities for students to get extra help from him weather it was needed or you just wanted to say hi and chat with him. Take a class with him if you get the chance!
You are expected to teach yourself the new material before class and come to lectures with your questions. The best way to succeed in U Chem I is to go to the learning center frequently and talk with Charlesworth and the CLC coaches. Paul jumps all around in the book and it's hard to follow if you don't stay really on top of things.
Class is very iClicker heavy, but Paul is a great professor.
Did not space out hw correctly, and had 13 assignments open in the last two weeks. Nice guy, bad teacher. Only 9% of the class got a certain hw problem right and the guy just shrugged and said "Oh Well". Better be good at teaching yourself, because you are going to need to do that or book a lot of learning center appointments. Take AP Chem instead.
Paul is a funny, accessible professor who makes this tough chemistry class more bearable. Attend class, do the homework, and utilize resources like the learning center and apps like unstuck study to succeed. The exams are challenging, but the grading scale is forgiving.
A very fun class as far as chemistry goes. Make sure to show up and participate in iclicker, but the exams are very forgiving. Take home exams with 2 attempts each makes it an easy class to get a good score in if you show up, learn the material, and do homework.
Paul is so sweet! He is just a guy! I loved having Paul! He does get off on some tangents but they are really funny.
Fun teacher to have. All tests/exams were taken online whenever over the course of a week, so cheating/ChatGPT seemed pretty common. I believe this policy may be changing in the future to in-person tests, however.
Great guy but try not to get swamped with the Smartwork assignments. Online exams!! Hooray!!
Was knowledgeable about material topics felt unrelated which made exams difficult but they were online. The iClickers graded right or wrong can hurt your grade so make sure to check answers with people you sit by. Smartwork assignments are annoying but overall the class isn't too bad if you stay on top of things.
Gave students wrong material to study for exams, terrible lectures, explains things very quickly if at all, can't set up canvas to save his life
Chem I is a huge class, so I think he did a decent job with what was asked of him. I thought it was pretty difficult, but I am also not great at chemistry. If you just go to class, you should be fine.
decent professor he just spams Iclickers to the point where its just frustrating after your 9th in one class period.
I genuinely don't understand how this guy has such a high rating, he's easily one of the worst professors I've had; he doesn't teach, he just reads off of slides and essentially just shrugs and says "Oh well" if you don't understand something. If you can avoid this class, do so. Take AP chem, take it over the summer, just don't take it with Paul.
genuinely hate this professor. easily one of the worst teachers ive ever had. is rude to students having technical difficulties, just reads from the slides and spams iclicker questions. he changed his in person exams to be mandatory and it makes them impossible.
Going into this class, Charlesworth revealed that two of the four exams (the first and last) would be in person. You teach yourself through pre-prepared videos and some topics are covered in a dry lecture. I was frustrated because the modules would never be unlocked on time and often homework wasn't available until a few days before the due date.
Honestly just pay attention, take notes, and study, and you'd actually do well in the class unlike me.
His teachings don't really correspond to the tests as much as the homework does. Just do the homework and it'll work out. I really struggled on the essential ed quizzes
He's British but one of the good ones.
He is funny but goes off topic very often. It's hard to pay attention in his class because there are 400 students or so who mostly are having mini conversations the entire lecture, but that isn't really his fault.
He has no rules. No boundaries. He doesn't flinch at torture, human trafficking, or genocide. He's not loyal to a flag or country or any set of ideals. He trades blood for money.
Lectures only cover half the material and seem structured purely to justify the constant graded-for-correctness iClicker questions. The weekly homework load includes both normal homeworks as well as timed lockdown tests framed as a "review". Exam questions are often poorly worded. If you make it to his office hours (you won't) he is not helpful.
Super relaxed but grades by the book.
By far the most boring teacher I have ever had. Nice guy, just be ready to study a LOT outside of class
He's lectures were often useless, he just reads off the slides of useless info in a monotone voice. If you want to learn the curriculum your better of learning it yourself. I would recommend locking in on the homework because the average test scores for him are atrocious, his average final scores are less the 50% yearly.
Ngl this guy annoyuing af bruh does not know how to teach. He just reads off the slides and does not fully explain everything. This guy also is pushy about answering questions about exam
You are completely on your own in this course. Be prepared to teach yourself everything. Insane to leave so many people stranded on a mostly freshman level course. All the exams are online except for the final. It is very easy to get behind and not know any material by the final.
All of the exams except the final are online, and no one passes the final. You either have to know what you are doing coming into the class or know how to teach yourself the material. The final destroys grades, no matter how much you study.
Textbook attached to the homework was not helpful, get ready to teach yourself the material. Prof frequently gets off-topic during the already unhelpful lectures.
Paul is a funny guy but the difference in difficulty between the weekly homework/reviews and the actual exams is insane. Already having chem experience is pretty much the only way to get an A. Be ready to put in a LOT of extra time into studying for this class even if you think you know all of the material because he likes to throw bs in the final.
The only way to do well in this class is if you have taken chemistry before and are very confident in your chemistry knowledge.
I had very little chem experience prior, which did make the course more difficult. However, getting an A isn't impossible. For the final, go through the old exams he provides. He pulls some questions directly from these. Teach things to yourself, the content isn't bad once you get it. You will not learn what you need from the lectures.
