Not a very good professor, his personality isn't very warming plus his extra credit opportunity (in the form of an extra class) seemed a bit sketchy. Expect a ton of homework, about 70 questions each. I would not suggest this professor as I've taken Chem1 with another professor and had learned much more with no homework at all, Clemens is difficult
Worst professor in my entire college career. The lecture does not help with the homework and the test. Mostly summarize the topic then test upon. Piss off at students who are not understand his questions. Need the Online OWL access code to do HW.
If you want a professional, adult, learning experience then take Dr. Clemens. He expects that you will take responsibility for your learning and treats students accordingly. I am not clear why some students have given him poor reviews - the guy is awesome and certainly has the students best interest in mind. Take this prof if you are serious....
He understands the material and was clear in what to expect. Good guy.
Used standardize PPt. and rant on real world examples when test questions were about the foundation of the chapters. This lead to many failure for the students. The extra credit class outside of HCC could help out your grades. Should have drop before the first week like many others in class. Expect tons of HW so group up.
Best professor ever! He explain everything so that you can understand the materials. Also lectures were not boring and if you put in the work you will pass.
I did pretty good in the class. I think I could've improved my grade by studying further in advance and by doing more practice problems.
Watched out! This Professor might rated himself, starting off with full class and end up a few left. The lecture was not helpful in anyway, so do as much as hundred of OWL homework problems. This could hopefully prepare for the exam. Not recommend for chem so take other if you can
He is one of the worst professor I ever had. Extremely worst attitude I have ever seen of any teacher. Very sarcastic and will always make fun of you if u will ask any question. He doesn't teach anything and if he doesn't know any he will skip that part or either start to talk about nonsense, irrelevant stuff. Plz don't take him
GREAT CLASS! SUPER PROFESSOR!!!!!
Worst professor I ever had. This is my third semester and I never had an encounter with such a lame and horrible professor. He is not clear in terms of his instruction. No explanation before lab. Whatever part he don't know he skips it. He skipped a whole thermochemistry chapter. He always talks about irrelevant stuff. Have a very bad behaviour.
Great professor and funny guy, he knows his knows chemistry! Highly recommend!!!!!!
So for those who actually have an interest in Chemistry this is not the class for you. You can literally pass this class without much effort. He skips a lot of different parts and is never prepared for class. He has more stories about himself than the actual Chemistry so non-relevant discussions are long and boring.
For those who actually have an interest in Chemistry this IS the class for you. He treats the students as adults and expects that you are prepared for class. He has interesting stories about his career in industry and thus makes the Chemistry relevant and tangible. Highly recommend!!!!! jA+++++
This guy treats the class as if we're juvenile highschool students. No iPads, laptops or cellphones otherwise he'll persecute you in front of the class and might ask you to leave. His discussion stray away from the lesson he's suppose to teach us. The man is pompous and if you ask question he almost always puts you down. He grades as if its Harvard
Good prof! Enjoyed the experience!
extremely rough professsor. He is nowhere near being a professor. He does not teach anything and skips a lot of portion. he thinks we are some sort of scientist and we must know the material. he does not explain the lab and is always busy with his own stuff. beware of him. if you seriously wanted to learn avoid him. save your grades!!!!
Not too bad, but if you like lectures try enrolling in another class.
It's a hybrid class so it will be time consuming
Enjoyed the class, definitely recommend this professor. Very dedicated and awesome professor.
Clemens was a fair instructor, but I should preface this review by saying that I took the 5 week accelerated course. You have to do a lot of work on your own (reading, doing the homeworks/quizzes online), so if you're not self-motivated then this isn't the right class for you. The class moves at a very fast pace and you have to keep up.
I took Dr. Clemens' hybrid class, which meant having to do all assignments and lectures at home. It was a difficult class to complete in 5 weeks, but I definitely recommend him for a regular semester class (that is not hybrid!)
Excellent professor! Very helpful. There is usually a lot of homework problems but they help you better master the concepts. Would take again! Best professor on HCC campus
I took this class in the summer and it was also a hybrid class so you would have to keep up with the assignments online as well. If you do good on your online quizzes then you will do fine in the class because they have a higher percentage in your grading criteria. Homework online is a pain in the butt because its 50 questions.
Professor Clemens is a better chemistry professor than any of the UT professor's I had. He actually made things easy to understand and was there to help when I neede it. His lectures went straight to the point and were clear and concise. If I had to take chemistry 2 it would be with him.
Great Professor . Expects you to be accountable for learning the material . Very helpful and has a sense of humor . You earn your OWN GRADE outside work must be done . I took the Hybrid course online and lecture/lab in class . Online material provided very helpful .. Offers a free book . Highly recommend #SavesYouMoney
Great professor! Took the 5 week summer hybrid class. Very fast paced so you need to keep up with lecture hw and quizzes online by the due date. Grading criteria very clear. Two labs in 5 hours twice a week but they do help you understand lecture. Keep cell phone away while he speaks. Working in groups is what has helped me .
Overall Dr. Clemens was very straight forward about what needed to be done. We had a lot of online homework. In the end it was all worth it because I ended up getting lots of practice. Just be sure to ask questions and keep up with homework, quizzes, and discussion questions. Try to stay organized as well
Dr. Clemens is actually a great professor. I thought he would be terrifying because of his sarcasm but you'll warm up to him. I took a hybrid class (5-weeks) so everything is pretty straight forward. Also, if you're an A&M student, be ready to be picked on a lot! He expects you to exceed his expectations.
Professor Clemens is a very professional professor who goes by the book. In his chemistry class be prepared to learn on your own. He answers all questions that you may have and he LOVES class participation. So feel free to put your hand in the air and ask a question or 2 or 3. He loves to crack jokes all the time many of which aren't funny.
I really enjoyed Dr. Clemens. The class was straight forward and about what I expected.
Nice teacher, great lectures
Ochem2 with Dr. Clemens. Overall difficulty was average be sure to read and do practice problems from the book. Understanding the reactions and how the mechanism looks will help a lot. He stresses memorizing the reactions A LOT, know those and you should be solid! Gives life examples when he can to relate to lecture may or may not be helpful?
Professor clemens is very passionate about teaching at a university level. His tests are only hard if you don't do your homework and study enough for it. The textbook s questions are directly pulled off from into the test. Class is very easy if you pay attention and study the reactions for pop quizzes and extra credit.
Dr. Clemens is a smart guy, tells corny jokes and often veers off and tells stories about his time in industry, but strangely he finds a way to tie them all in to the lecture topic at hand. passionate about the subject, and the students. Be prepared to memorize tons of reactions though. All in all a great prof!
Dr. Clemens is a very interesting professor to say the least. I took him for a summer 5 week course and he is wonderful man but at times he tends to overstep boundaries. The teaching is not the best coming from him reading the powerpoint and going off topic about personal life stories. Would have preferred him showing how reactions were made.
Overall, I would describe Dr. Clemens as a fair professor. He expects you to work hard for your grade. Students that want to do well must memorize the reactions and do all of the homework. He lectures straight from the book and will tell stories or jokes. He does not work out reactions on the board or explain them very well. Memorization is key.
Excellent Organic II professor. Had many interesting projects threaded throughout the lecturess!!!
He's a bad bad professor who lacks empathy and isn't there for you. He's unfair and just overall a bad news. He shouldn't be a chair, thats fo sure. He gets an F from me. Run and never look back.
Great prof!!!! This guy is the best!
He is a great teacher and he tried to make some jokes in the lectures. I like he forced us to memorize all reactions. This is really challenging but it has a lot of fun. Half test grade is from the book questions. Another half test grade is memorizing reactions. Just work hard and memorize all stuffs, then you can get a good grade.
He is so bad run away just do not take him he is soooo bad and do not care about the students and he always do not explain anything
Great experience! He encouraged using computers and phones in class. The textbook was free (OpenStax). His exams were WORD FOR WORD & NUMBER FOR NUMBER directly from the homework. He has a great personality and really knows the material. A+ highly recommend!!!!!!! Thanks Dr. Clemens, you are one of the best instructors at HCC!
Good class. Do the homework and the tests are easy - he takes the test questions directly from the homework. Very nice prof.
Pretty straightforward do the homework and rock the tests. Labs are easy and group exercises. I liked the prof's approach to teaching.
U R good with this teacher.
he could make everything funnier which is hilarious. doubtlessly a very nice guy. I hope he teaches chem2 as well. Look forward to seeing him again.
Dr. Clemens is a good professor and generally nice. His exams are very direct and the labs are easy. The department final was a bit hard (subjective opinion). He expects you to read a lot on your own but is always available if you have any questions. He has a dry sense of humor which makes the class less boring. Would take him for Chemistry1412.
He relates the course to real-life situations, you'll never get bored in his class
He is soooooo BAD he don't care about the student and he doesn't explain anything. just DON'T TAKE HIM.
Took Dr. Clemens for Chem I in the summer. There was sooooo much material to cover. Surprisingly the class was manageable and I did fine. Lots of homework, but the exams are directly from the homework. Clemens is very knowledgeable on the topic and has a pleasant personality. If you have to take chemistry - try this prof.
You are responsible for going over all the homework questions and teach yourself. if you have any questions, he will boldly go over that question but other than that, he doesn't go over all the material.
Great professor I really enjoyed his class! If any student gave him a bad review they probably aren't serious or ready for college! He's always available to answer any questions and his tests are just like the homework. I guarantee you will be successfu,l in his class if you put in the effort for this class.
Please do me a favor, DON'T TAKE HIS HYBRID CLASS! you will have to learn everything by yourself, I mean EVERYTHING (it's what hybrid class is about). However, if you're capable of spending at least 2 hours PER day to teach yourself then this class is not really that hard.
Good prof.
Good teacher, pretty relaxed and fair.
Chemistry isn't really my favorite, but this class was tolerable and clemens is an excellent professor. Very professional and knowledgable. The exam questons come directly from the homework. If you do the work it is an easy A.
I took the hybrid class. The labs were easy and the tests were directly from the homework. Pretty straightforward.
Not really a teacher as much as he is a supervisor. Just do your homework and take the test. If you just want the credit, take the class. If you want to learn chemistry from a professor, find someone else. Labs: Just read the lab manual. Lecture: No teaching. Watch videos.
I took CHEM 1301 online & it was by far one of the easiest classes I have every taken. 10/10 recommend him.
Awful professor, doesnt teach at all. Very sarcastic, with his responses. Seems as if hes just going with the motion, doesnt care if you pass or fail.
if you are working and taking 4 to 5 classes a sem then for sure you are gonna fail. teaches nothing
Great class. Lecture online and labs face 2 face. Exams are DIRECTLY from the homework. Do the homework and you will do well in the class. Super smart answered all questions clearly with plenty of examples. Highly recommend if you are an adult and serious about learning. Stay away if you are a clown!!!!!
It was a hybrid class. Tests were directly from the homework.
Good A+
Hell good prof. Took same chemistry from others at hcc - he is best. Tests are exactly from the homework. Labs are easy. Dr. Clements answered all my questions.
Took for org II in summer. Lots of memorization but exams were straigt forward. I learned lots.
Took a summer mini-mester. The class was literally so easy it was comical. I only needed the credit, thus have 0 interest in chemistry. If you're in the same boat, TAKE THIS CLASS. 3 discussion board posts per unit and the exams. That's it EVERY ANSWER TO THE EXAM IS ON QUIZLET. Homework is for practice, not graded. EASY A!
Very easy professor, everything is straightforward. All of the test and the finals are based off the homework.
Hands down one the best science professor at HCC. He has a good lecture series with lots of videos and extra course materials. His tests are from the homework and memorization of reactions. The labs were fun and interesting.
Straight up great professor!!!!!
Those that rate him poorly, have either not adapted to being an adult learner yet or they tried to juggle too many other things while taking this course. You WORK for your grade, but he tells you from day 1 exactly what you need to do to get an A. This is a weed out class for a reason. I busted my butt, I got my A. Would take him all over again.
Very hard if you dont study everything. Tests have detailed and hard questions.
Good professor. Treated class like adults. Those that chose to attend and not use their electronics did pretty good i think.
Dont take him. He doesnt care about your grade. No extra credit. No curve. Teach nothing. He read straightforward from the power point. You have to teach yourselves. He is the worst professor ever.
This professor reads the PowerPoint word for word. He does not give extra credit and does not care to help students. The tests can vary grossly from one to another depending on his mood. Be very careful if taking his course.
He is honestly the worst prof. You can take. This is my third time leaving a rating because he keeps deleting them to make it look like he was a good prof. He is emotional & based his grades off emotion. Once I did the hw in advance and he dropped points without me knowing bc it was "done too quick" ive never Failed in college til I took his class
Just to be clear I only took Professor Clemens for a Chem lab, so my review is solely based on taking him for lab. His sense of humor made the class not so boring. He answers questions if youre confused and does step by step problems. He even assisted those that were taking Chem class with a different professor.
READ! READ! And do the HOMEWORK! You will not progress and learn if you do not do the homework, and actually ask questions.
First of all, all of the people who rated Dr. Clemens poorly are probably not diligent students. Dr. Clemens is an AWESOME Organic Chemistry II professor. His exams are straightforward and he prepares you well before each exam. Orgo II is not an easy subject. You have to dedicate a lot of time to study and memorize (reactions). BEST ORGO PROFESSOR!
Professor Clemens is a fair grader and fantastic professor. Just memorize the reactions and do the homework problems and you should do fine in the class. He genuinely wants his students to succeed not just in his class but in their future academic/professional endeavors as well. He's more than willing to help you after class if you need it.
He is a nice professor. He cares about his students and gives us a lot of inspiration. The tests are straightforward, 50 percent homework and 50 percent reactions. He also has a lot of useful videos.
Dr. Clemens is a great professor, he wants his students to succeed. You have to dedicate time in studying just like any other class. You have to learn reactions which will help out in homework and exams. It is not an easy course but Dr. Clemens will prepare you for the exams.
Prof. Clemens is very friendly and outgoing. He tells you what will you exactly need to study for the exam. Beware, it is a lot of material to keep up with! Ochem 2 is the hardest class I have ever taken. A lot to digest and memorize. Wanna pass? Memorize the reactions and solve the hw. He gives extra credit on the exams as well. Tough but awesome!
Professor Clemens is a great professor. He's straightforward and to the point, he teaches his class in a way that will allow you to excel on the MCAT,DAT,PCAT,etc. to get into graduate school. %50 exams are memorized reactions and the rest free response. Do the homework and memorize the reactions!!!!
Dr. Clemens is someone I wish all orgo students could meet. He's understanding, caring, and enjoys making film references in between lectures. His lectures are based off of ppts that are accessible anytime. Exams are 50% memorizing reactions and 50% based on ppts and hw, which means that you must do the hw to pass! Overall, an outstanding prof
Professor Clemens is a great professor and he seeks for the success of his students. His test are 50% from the homework and 50% from the reactions(you need to memorize them). Even though Orgo chem isn't an easy course, Professor Clemens makes it enjoyable. Highly Recommended. He gives extra credit too.
Rarely any class lectures
Great professor! The questions on exams were DIRECTLY from the homework. Do the homework and get an easy A. Fun class.
You will be teaching yourself by reading the book. He pulls test questions from the homework, but each chapter has over 90 homework questions, and they are difficult. Incredibly rude to students, and is not receptive to questions.. All tests had errors. Lectures are interesting, but not at all helpful for tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER
Haha! Easy. All exams were word for word from the homework. Good professor.
Clemens definitely makes you work for his class but I learned a lot. This class pushes you out of your comfort zone but Clemens keeps it interesting and is very accessible. Would definitely recommend. Lots of homework but Clemens test directly from the homework so you know what to expect on test day.
No class lectures!!!!!!! Professor hates his job. Do not take him you will not learn Chemistry. Exams would be easier if he covered materials from each chapter.
Exams are easy - he covered materials from each chapter in lecture and class exercises. Exams are directly from the homework. Good prof.
Great instructor - learned lots! A+!
the class was really fun, he put in grades on time. furthermore I was able to understand the contents of each lecture, because of how well he explains it. Tests are directly from the hw. Recommend this teacher.
He never taught us he sent us home with hw and expected us to learn it on our own and we cane to class just so he could sit their and wait for us to ask him questions
Honestly if you are taking intro to chem DO NOT waste your money or time, maybe hes better at other chem classes but this man does not teach until the last 3 weeks of class and expects everyone to just understand and already know what hes covering and if you ask questions he wont even answer then fully or with out sarcasm in his voice
He definitely seems tough but he has this soft side which he doesn't show so hang in there. Tests are not tricky since there pulled from the homework. You don't find other professors who make such easy tests. And yes he curves at the end :)) don't be late to his class, you don't wanna be picked on
If you cannot study by yourself, do not take his class. If you can, take other professors and you'll be learning a lot more from them.
Tests are directly from hw but he does not lecture! Hes no help. Stay away and take another professor.
his class is all about watching videos and figuring things ourselves. You will have to learn everything by yourself, not much from him. Take other professors if you really want to learn chemistry.
helpful in the lab, and very knowledgeable!
Clemen's classes are good, as a teacher he knows what he is talking about. He does provide the tools to excel in the class but you do need to do the homework. Exams are directly from the homework.
Dr. Clemens is a great professor that makes lectures interesting. I found that he didn't always cover the concepts in lecture that were on the homework assignments, but overall the tests were representative of the material and directly from the homework. He's also is a genuinely nice dude.
Professor Clemens absolutely amazing. his lectures are informative and engaging, and he makes them entertaining as well. He's a very funny guy with a passion for chemistry. His tests are very fair. Definitely the best professor for gen chem.
Very solid professor. Explains stuff clearly and answers all questions. Treats students with respect and was probably one of the best professors I've had in college.
you have to teach yourself !if thats what you gotta do then why even pay for it to be taught . this whole class is a mess
Take this class if you wanna waste your time and money for nothing. All he does is reading his powerpoint, which is just a few and let us watch the videos. You have to teach yourself properly and hope to pass the class.
Does not give any feedback. Careless rarely in class lectures. Self taught course, stay away!
Professor did not lecture throughout the semester.
Please dont take this professor. He is the worst professor for Chemistry. Seriously take my advice and take anyone else. All the other ratings explain themselves on why he is so bad. He knows he is getting bad reviews and continues to report my ratings so they get deleted. Even on all the good ratings more people dont find those ratings helpful.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! He just goes through the powerpoints quickly and most class days he just wants the students to ask questions about homework. Everything else is pretty much on your own. Do yourself a favor and choose a different professor. No extra credit and your entire grade is based on exams + final.
The worst professor. He has offensive humor and does not explain things. For example, 15 mins before an exam I asked for clarification on a equation and he refused to help. In addition, the exams are directly from the homework, but there are over 100 questions per chapter and the solutions in the book don't many any sense. Please save your money!
Test is from the HW, word for word. do the homework and you should do well on the exams. there is roughly 60-70 homework questions per chapter (2-3 chapters per exams). So if you put a lot of time into the homework and understand the concept then it should be an easy A. no need for textbook, he gives you all the HW and answers online.
I miss him i took him last years for summer and i made a B i want him again for lab but he way at the Stafford campus. oh well looks like i'm taking this lab at TSU cos i just need labs now to complete degree 2 so i can graduated again from HCCS in 2020. yes i just graduated in MAY,2019 so if i came back to college after 20 years and pass you can 2
RUN. More than 200 review questions only to bring 20 in the test. little to no explanations in class.
If you want to learn the material, dont take him. If you dont care to learn and just need it for the credit, still dont take him.
if you want to learn the material, look elsewhere. this is a Self-taught course!!!!
Horrible, RUN AWAY FOR YOUR LIFE! He thinks he is all that, man you are not funny with those stupid jokes. Mr. Clemens please quit your job bc you ain't made for this. You have no knowledge and by just standing in front of us you don't become an instructor. I dropped his class and Im really happy that I did.
This guy knows chemistry! The tests are word for word from the homework. Pretty straightforward. I recommend him
Nice guy. I liked the class. DO THE HOMEWORK!!!!!
I dropped the class because very hard and he doesnt care for students. Bad prof!
Chemistry at its worst form.
Too much work no curves or extra credit. Somethings wrong with him
An adult based class. Refreshing! Thanks Dr. Clemens, I enjoyed the class!
Easy class! Labs were fun!
I took B, but I have to recognize that he is one of the worst professors I had in my HCC student life. I can't understand why HCC still contract him...
Took this class online. Clemens was good about answering emails. Easy exams! A++++
Do the homework - the exams are word 4 word directly from the homework. Easy. Prof is frick'n smart and tells dumb dad jokes.
Took him for Chem I labs but i wished i have taken him for the lecture! Very hilarious and inspiring. Nice and always willing to help you pass the class too. Highly recommend.
I did Chemistry 1105 lab with Professor Clems and he was a very good choice. He makes the class lively and relates with everyone. He stresses attendance, punctuation and group participation. You can easily make an A and his lectures are relevant and helpful to help you do well in 1305.
So if you are good at learning by yourself he'll be a good professor. He wouldn't show up to class and email us 30 mins before class after I alrdy left my home. He initially had 4 exams and labs for your grade. Exams were HW Q's. After COVID, chap. exams. No livestreams, no instruction after that. Just 1 Livestream about the changes. Not content.
Professor Clemens isn't ideal. He tells his students to "grind it out" because it is an adult learning course, but he gave no type of guidance throughout this course. He knows his info but does not present it well. Once we went to online learning due to COVID, he had ONE conference call to let us know of the changed. After that radio silence.
Fun prof! Bummer the covid19 happened in the middle of the semester. Would recommend!
I appreciated Dr. Clemens teaching style. Face to face was good. Online was good. Tests are word for word from the homework.
He's pretty clear about the kind of professor he is, he is a resource, a valuable resource that is there for you even outside of class. He is a gentlemen that cares about his students. Self study, ask questions, and keep up with the class. He was always was prompt answering email.
How to describe this man without using profanity? He has no interest in you, he will not help you. If you can self study chem, go for it- if you can't you'll wreck your gpa. There is no extra credit, there is no curve. He doesn't teach.
The exams are WORD-FOR-WORD directly from the homework! No extra credit or curve is necessary. Be an adult, take responsibility, do the homework and you will earn your A.
Requires webcam and lockdown browser. Not flexible.
If the idea of having to take organic chemistry makes you want to slit your wrists but you have no choice but to take this class then Clemens is your man. He answers his emails quickly and is extremely knowledgeable in this subject matter. His exams are fair and representative of material covered in the homwork.
This guy is so bad. Do I need to say more? Sent him an email 3x and no response. Just avoid him if you can.
Pretty much one of the best professors at HCC. Very nice man and always willing to help. Can be tough at times, but if you like chem, you should do well.
Uses webcam system, gives a free book, and uses other people's youtube videos. If you can self-study and do his "homework", you'll get an A. I failed due to my webcam not being "good enough", but was only told that AFTER taking the final. He's probably better on ground.
Great professor, I took him for 5 weeks on summer and online. 9 labs, that he will give you 100 only if you show your work even though if is right or not. The labs are worth 80% of the class and are open through all the semester. Final uses cam but is 20% of the grade, so if you do good on labs you can get an easy A. Available when you need him.
Good online prof. The exams were directly from the homework. Good about answering emails.
Prof. Clemens is a great professor. I would take him again. he is very exact and tells you what will be on the test, all of it comes from the homework. he responds to emails and is great in person and online.
Fantastic Professor. Took his class in the summer session and while it was definitely hectic, he made it really manageable for us. Definitely take his class
I really thought this class would be different. At the beginning it was really easy but when we had to take test they were very hard! probably only 2 people out of my class passed them if we were lucky if we passed. He does not answer emails at all. Does not drop nothing. He doesnt grade too bad just dont think he pays attention to his class!
do not take him even if he is the last available. he doesnt teach, he LECTURES. you will not learn anything. everybody basically got under 60-70 every exam. he gives 100-150 questions per chapter for review and says hell choose from them to be on the exam. it is an incredibly difficult class. also, he will make sure you know hes better than you.
By far one of the worst professors I have taken at HCC. This is one of the worst mistakes I have ever made and it is thinking that this prof is a good teacher. He does not care about anyone. He does not teach. He gives questions on the test that we have not went over.I am warning everyone to please not take this professor…you will fail!
just no
Great instructor, very clear and professional. Definitely recommend for anyone who plans on taking organic chemistry.
Class was nicely paced. Difficult material. A well-meaning knowledgeable professor.
Overall good class!
Good online class.
Good class
Don't be scammed with his rating. I have nothing against him but he really doesn't teach anything. Don't expect to learn anything form his lecture's. His test are from another world and studying the notes and the online resources are not enough. The highest grade on an exam is 60 in an in-person class. Only stress and sarcasm is what you will get.
Do not take!!!! He does not teach but instead professes. Gives PowerPoint but is around 200 pages and says to study everything whether on the exam or not. No reviews and honestly he tries to lighten the mood by being funny but in the end, it's a class in which either you do everything or you fail.
He didn't take the time to explain ANYTHING, every time someone had a question, he would never answer the question but instead would respond with a smart remark. Everything was essentially self-taught and I would not recommend this professor at all for chemistry 2. Out of the 25 people in the class, maybe 5 people passed the exams.
Provided no guidance, spent most of his time rambling about foolishness, didn't care if the class passed or failed, and overall was very unapproachable. I knew Chem 2 would be a difficult course, however, Professor Clemens made it even more challenging by not explaining the material he provided and nonchalant responses to students' questions.
Good professor. Mostly pp slides in class. Tests are basically the homework, so pretty manageable.
He reads the power points and relates them with something from his personal life. I took him for a summer class and was a mistake, it was too much information to memorize. He says that tests are the same as homework but it was a lie. Take him if you want a class full of sarcasm, him not answering questions and bragging about his achievements
Good prof. Did what was required and learned quite a bit of info. Recommend
He is a good professor. Overall, this class is not difficult if you have a good knowledge of chemistry. There are 12 discussions, and 5 tests are required for the Respondus LockDown Browser. These tests are the most important, even if you got 0 pts on 12 discussions, but got 90-100 pts on 5 tests, you still get a grade A.
Chem 2 is a tough class however Professor Clemens made it even more difficult. His powerpoints are 200 pages long and he just reads over them in class. Considering the math involved in this course he wouldn't even solve the problems in class instead he would read over them. It was a self-taught class. !!!DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
This is the best Orgo II professor ever! His tests are 25 multiple-choice questions, half reactions, and another half from HW. The HW is very long but prepare you well for exams, exams are online, in class. Extra Credit opportunity at the end of semester! Orgo 2 is very hard but he makes it very simple and easier to pick up. Amazing personality too
Good class and professor. However, if you struggle with basic knowledge of chemistry and tests, then be careful. There are 5 tests including the final. The exams made up most of your grade so study and be ready.
He is funny but doesn't know how to teach. I'm glad I only took him for the lab portion and I will never take his class again (thats how bad his class was). I learnt nothing.
This class was pretty easy and gave me more knowledge about what chemistry is. This class consisted of twelve graded discussions and five or six tests. Professor Clemens provided lecture videos, the lecture in a "PowerPoint" form, homework/worked examples of what we were learning (for each unit), and a file of what you can expect on each test.
best professor in chemistry at HCC. easy to understand the lectures. The tests are not difficult, look like same the quiz and homeworks.
Good prof! 5 week summer class - learned lots.
Good teacher, I'll be taking him again next semster.
I took him for a summer class and was a mistake, it was too much information to memorize. He says that tests are the same as homework, but it was a lie. Take him if you want a class full of sarcasm, him not answering questions. And yeah, I can't further my education because he lacks compassion and understanding for a fellow human being
Keep up on weekly reading. Great professor who really cares. I enjoyed his class.
He just posted someone else's videos as lecture and basically used a whole different professors work. I thought that was odd but if you don't need chem later on take it bc its free
He's really easy, sure but that doesn't make him a good professor at all. Honestly, If I had him for lecture I would've failed bc his lectures before class make little/no sense. Take him for lab, but be there on time or he'll kick you out if you're late/you'll miss a quiz. (Also he's really sarcastic, and can be pretty jerk-y/rude.)
I choose this professor because if the good reviews, but I regret that now. He is very strict with attendance; he does not listen to feedback or try to reason with students. His lectures are very unclear and he gives lots of homework
This professor is by far one of my worst, he's brilliant but doesn't understand how to teach and expects us to be on the same level of knowledge. Will kick you out if you are late and you cannot participate in lab. Lab reports take 2-4 hours to complete as well as homework. No test reviews. be ready to hear "Repeat business is good business"
He does the work and expects a lot in return. Thats a quality of a good teacher. I will be taking him again. Thanks.
Professor was among the best, and your time would not be wasted as he makes his short lectures fun. Labs every week make you want to come to class.
Good professor, not lenient though so just stay focused and turn everything in.
Amazing professor! His lab classes were easier than the rest of any lab class I ever taken! He really funny and knows how to crack an joke! You will learn a lot from the labs and it pretty awesome! Make sure you do all your assignments and turn it in!
Professor Clemens is a good professor&respects you IF you respect him as a student. His coursework consists of thorough lab reports (that he gives a guide for) and prelab quizzes that he gives you a theoretical yield to study beforehand. BE THERE ON TIME or you won't participate, be a responsible student and you will be okay. His labs help lecture!
Professor Dr. Clemens doesn't tolerate Cheating. I would say I would retake him. He had a great sense of humor and All his assignments were a lot of work but what can we expect from a Lab? Although the assignments were a lot of work, they helped me to understand better.
He is a great professor and will help you understand the assignment that you will be going over in class that day. His is understanding if you miss a day of class and is relaxed with the understanding that things happen and that we are still humans. Great professor and I would recommend him to anyone and will be attending his chem lecture or lab 2
Taking his course is one of the greatest things you can do. His class consists of weekly quizzes at the beginning of each class, weekly lab assignments that were for the lab done each week and one final. Be sure to be ON TIME to class. I took his class expecting the worst because I HATED chemistry, but he actually made chemistry fun! Take him!
Professor Clemens is outstanding, bringing a contagious enthusiasm to each session and making all experiments very engaging. He created a supportive and collaborative learning environment, always encouraging questions and engaging discussions. His dedication to student success is evident, making the lab experience both educational and enjoyable.
Takes his job seriously. Still manages to have fun in class. Gives students leeway to make their own mistakes without penalizing them for it. Does not tolerate cheating.
The professor always made things clear before letting us start on the lab, he is very charismatic, so it made the lab even more fun. He gave us quick lectures on some labs which was very helpful when it came to the lab reports and post-lab questions. I don't have much to say about Dr. Clemens, but he is a 10/10 professor.
Professor Clemens is a great chemistry teacher. Each class consists of a pre-lab quiz, which is pretty easy if you read the pre-lab procedure and background information. The labs are easy to understand. He gives lectures in topics when needed. Lastly, the lab reports are easy as long as the report is detailed and explained well.
Professor is very clear on instructions and expects you to be on time! Not a lot of homework and easy to pass the class. He is awesome with a good sense of humor. I will definitely be taking him again!
I had the privilege of taking Professor Paul Clemens course this semester (Chemistry Laboratory) I highly recommend Dr. Paul Clemens to anyone seeking a knowledgeable, passionate, and student-focused professor. My academic experience has been enriched by his teaching, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn under his guidance.
Professor Clemens was amazing. He gives lectures before the lab begins to help the students who aren't taking the lecture component of Chem 1. He provides feedback on all work and is very helpful during the actual experiments. I would recommend him to anyone taking chemistry for the first time or overall needs a strong professor.
Professor Clemens made chemistry super enjoyable with his jokes. He provided clear instructions on assignments both in person and online. I would definitely take this class again.
In this lab you have to be present and prepared. Other than that, he made science fun. I will look forward to be taking the next level of chem with him. It make chem easy to understand and he will always be trying to make you laugh. Never a dull day in his class.
This professor is really good at keeping you attentive. Make sure that you follow his directions and you will pass. He is great at teaching, if you fail it is simply because you did not come to class or did not try at all. Take his class!!
Professor Clemens is a great professor. While I was taking this class, he taught me a lot. Even though it was my first time learning Chemistry, this class was even better than the lecture. Just be on time, and prepare before you take the quiz, then this class will be great for those who just started to learn chemistry.
He is very clear with how he wants assignments to be completed and he gives helpful feedback on assignments that allows for improvement. He is present and hands on with labs and answers any questions you may have. The class room environment is very lively and welcoming.
Essentially get your assignments done and be present for lab experiments. He is a great Professor and classes are never boring with him. He makes Chemistry likable for those who dread it
Great professor. Made the course enjoyable. Highly recommend Dr. Paul Clemons for ant Chemistry classes. Really wish he'd teach general chemistry. His empirical knowledge allowed me to relate to chemistry.
The professor always comes on time and helps anyone who needs it. His labs were entertaining and they included the materials needed to understand it. Just make sure to come on time and to do your lab reports!
pretty solid professor the lab reports were easy to complete and the labs were interesting to do
I registered for this class for my mandatory Chemistry Lab and this turned out to be true since the professor is helpful, clear for grading criteria, and friendly professor during the lab experiments. Not only does he explain well in the lectures but also helps the students with their unclear instructions of the labs.
Dr. Paul L Clemens, an outstanding chemistry lab professor, impresses with his punctuality, clear teaching style, and genuine care for students. His dedication goes beyond the classroom, making him highly recommended for his commitment to student success.
I took the lab portion of Intro to Gen. Chemistry while taking the lecture and I would say if you're considering taking him as your professor you should be fine. He explains the pre-lab and gives good criteria of what he's looking for in each assignment. Weekly lab reports and pre-lab quizzes are the assignments- not including exams.
Highly Recommend Professor Clemens, he takes a challenging subject like Chemistry and makes it easily understandable to students. Lab reports are very helpful throughout the course. He lectures before the lab and is open to questions from the students. His grading is very fair as long as students put forth effort and time. I would take him again!
Best Professor. No exam , only lab report and pre lab quiz. Easy A
This professor is hilarious, while getting to the point in his lectures. They are short but filled with info if you pay attention. You will get at least an A in this class if lab reports are done right and turned in on time. Overall, i had a great experience and I would take him again if the opportunity presented itself.
take positive reviews lightly. realize that there are so many because he bumps you up a letter grade if you rate him at the end of the semester. professor is not the worst, but not the best. a lot of the work is self study and he can be very strict with attendance/suspicion of cheating. lab reports are REALLY long. goodluck .
Would definitely recommended! Prof. Clemens will work with you during tough times, as long as you do your part! Overall, as long as you read the material, take all tests, and do the reports, you will succeed, and receive an A.
Amazing teacher. I had him last year and she was genuinely helpful. 10/10
Extremely nice teacher, offers a lot of help.
I was registered for another prof at HCC, and switched to this professor. Prof Clemens is a very patient and thorough professor. He is dedicated to his students and responds quickly to email after with you if you do not grasp any concepts. I hated chemistry but was required to take, he was a GREAT help considering that fact!
Clemens is a great professor and a very fair. Even though I took his course online it felt he was really engaged with the students. His encouragement made me want to try harder and succeed.
He can take a little bit to become accustomed to, but Clemens is awesome!!! Clemens tells you straight out. He is so funny and witty!!
Clemens is great! The class is a little challenging but Clemens is a good prof! He does a good job at explaining everything. I recommend it
Do take this course!!! It was all straightforward.
Professor Clemens is awesome. He is super easy and super helpful. I definitely recommend taking him.
Not the most difficult class. He is extremely helpful if you take the time to reach out and ask questions. I'm not a good student but I got good grades because of following the directions and doing the work. A+ professor.
Labs were informative and he gave students space to work in groups.
Study like if you life depends on it but so worth it! An amazing experience for an 8am class. I met a great group to study with worth the college experience!
This class was really hard, but he pulled through in the end.
It's a memory game. Hard work gets you far so if you give up because you can't learn you can still pass if you just get all your work done and memorize the important things.
Memorization is key in this class! There's reaction quizzes each week, so stay on top of work.
This class will require you to put effort into your studying and participate. Professor Clemens provides homework and other content that will prepare you for the class and future means. He is a nice person and willingly helps students to achieve.
Such a remarkable professor! Amazing scholar and incredibly intelligent. I took this for fun and fully enjoyed it. Really opened my eyes to science. I would definitely recommend this class.
This professor was very straight forward with clear concise expectation. Great professor
he is a good chemistry professor. easy to understand his lectures. a lot of extra credits so that easy A.
Dr. Clemens is an excellent teacher. I had him last semester for Gen chem 2 and this semester with Org chem 1. Clear,Concise and gets the subject across in a very easy manner to learn from. Good personality.
This professor does not teach well. He only plays YouTube videos online and expects the students to teach themselves. He does not foster a welcoming environment, making students feel uncomfortable to ask questions.
I enjoyed this course. I appreciate Professor Clemens! You can get by without the textbook, as his slides are very helpful!
Ochem 2 is tough, but Professor Clemens helped us along the way. It was a fun and exciting course, especially when doing lab. Get ready to have quiz every class, include reactions and pre-lab questions.
Learn to memorize and memorize fast
Great professor! He allows you to gain points from reaction quizzes, pre lab quizzes, lab reports and exams. It requires a lot of work and memorization but if you memorize the reactions on the PowerPoints, and know the concepts from the PowerPoints, you will be fine for the exams.
Great
He was cool. But this class does require some outside sources. He is very clear on what you have to do to pass in this class.
Study a lot and teach yourself, you should be fine
It was a class with many challenges but it was worth it since it made me learn a lot
Dr. Clemens is a very great professor. He is well organized and very understanding. He is fun to talk to after class. He is lab reports and homework are easy to do according to a sample. If you are struggling with chem, he will help you and be easy on you. I would recommend anyone to take this class.
You will have to work in the class but as long as you do your part and show you are trying your best he will give you more than you deserve. He is also unbiased and respects hard work alone.
Uses free online textbook. Difficult class, but professor answers all questions. Strict grader and must show up on time for labs and exams. Overall, tough class and professor, but one I would recommend.
OChem is a difficult class by itself, be prepare to read over the textbook and learn to memorize well. Professor Clemens labs were one of my favorites. Be prepared to memorize reactions and pre lab for the quizzes every day.
Overall great
He has a sense of humor. He goes through material fast. Open to questions.
good professor for real learning
Awsome professor I have ever met.
Professor Clemens is truly experienced and has no problem answering questions about lessons. All he asks is for you to be prepared for class by reviewing lessons before class. Great professor, made chemistry super enjoyable.
Pr. Clemens was honestly a very rough professor but taught a lot of interesting lessons through this. It was hard but i learned how to manage more through this
He is a good teacher that makes funny jokes and helps you with grades throughout. If you pay attention for the exams and submit the labs on time you should have a respectable grade.
He was very funny and would help you if you had any trouble and is very open for tutoring should you need any assistance. He would relate to the student and make jokes that can make the whole class laugh and would make you comfortable.
Professor Clemens is a great professor, this was my second semester having him as a chem professor. He is pretty straight forward when it comes to the syllabus and his lectures, as long as you prepare before each class you'll do good. The labs are well organized and he gives study sessions where you can ask questions and review before exams.
Great personality, get ready for some funny stories in his class. He knows a lot about chemistry but expects you to come prepared for the lecture. Not that many homeworks but he wants to see detailed lab reports
Great professor. Class is tough but he is there to help you with questions. He also holds recitation days where you can use those days to prepare for exams and ask him any questions to help you prepare for the exams.
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY AND GRADES dont be fooled by the other ratings 1. Must have lecture memorized BEFORE class to even FATHOM passing the "pre-lecture/lab" quizzes 2. NONE of the exams are like the hw or slides 3. He NEVER reviews for the exams so good luck 4. Skims over slides and into yapper-town we go, decent advice tho
Online class - good prof.
I got a solid A. I would attribute this to how the course was laid out online and the appropriate amount of work. Good class - I recommend.
Pretty much straight forward class. I think he curved the class - I ended with a high B but got an A.
Dope professor, really made chem easy to understand 15/10 would take again.
Amazing professor definitely cares about his students. Will work with you and let you know what you did wrong in the lab so you can turn it in again.
He was very funny. The pre-lab quiz was kind of unnecessarily hard for what we were doing in the lab. The lab reports are extremely long but not impossible to complete.
Do your work and you will pass with A. If you are the type of person that does not want to put in the work you will probably find it hard. He is a good professor and makes the lab experience interesting
The labs themselves are easy and straight-forward. He does look at the labs closely and does grade them so try your best to follow the instructions for them. Also don't slack on lab techniques and safety because he won't be afraid to call you out in labs if you aren't doing something or wearing something you're supposed to.
is an excellent teacher who I highly recommend. his dedication, passion, and expertise make learning engaging and effective. I have greatly benefited from his teaching and support.
In this class, there always have a 5 question quiz about 10 minutes before each class, so be sure to arrive class on time. Overall, he is a good professor. As long as you pay attention to what he tells you to pay attention to in experiments and lab reports, you can easily get high scores.
Professor Clemens is strict about plagiarism, if you put in the effort to do the work, the class will be a rewarding experience. He values integrity and the willingness to learn, and I definitely would take his class again. Professor Clemens is concise and knowledgeable when it comes to teaching and knows what he is teaching.
I took this class asynchronous in a 5-week summer session and the workload was good. There are 4 exams and a cumulative final with a homework packet and discussion post for each module that is graded for participation. Exams are straight from the homework so I would definitely recommend taking this class if you want to get it over with.
This is my third time taking him, he is a professor that genuinely wants to see his students succeed.
Dr.Clemens is one of the best professors to teach Chemistry. While CHEM 1412 is not easy, he made it more bearable and understandable. I learned so much in this 5 week summer course compared to a full semester. He uses examples from his own life in lectures and makes it applicable to the lecture. He has a clear, fair grading criteria.
Teaches at a good pace, and will answer questions throughly if asked.
Professor Clemens is one of the best chemistry professors I have ever had. He provides you with all the resources you need to learn the material and is available to ask questions. His lectures are long but he makes them entertaining. You have to self-study, but he is caring and wants every person to succeed. He is also pretty funny and sarcastic.
His lectures are easy to understand, especially with all the funny examples he uses to explain topics. He engages with students tries to get to know them personally, and encourages class participation. While his exams contain a lot of numerical problems and may not directly come from the book, he is not a harsh grader.
He is strict with attendance so it is important to arrive on time for the pre-lab quizzes. He is very thorough when giving instructions and grading lab reports. He is very willing to work with students and he also drops the lowest lab report grade.
The professor is strict with attendance, but engaging and willing to work with students. Labs can be thorough but manageable with effort. unstuckstudy ai was helpful for study prep, along with the free textbook.
I do not doubt that Professor Clemens has average knowledge of chemistry. The situation with him is the lack of empathy and understanding he projects to you as a student. There is zero flexibility and desire to help. The way he answers is cold and he is not compassionate. All I will say is that a professor can't be a robot. So sad!
Very good at answering questions with details, you do have to put in the work in understanding certain subjects before asking because he answers questions expect you have done your part in reading but other than that he is great
Great person.
He is such an amazing professor! He gives good feedback and creates a fun lab!
The professor is great, the class is hard just because of the material but he understands that the material is hard and puts video that makes the material a lot easier.
I had Dr. Clemens for gen chem 2 and ochem. He wants you to do your best and do the work. Great teacher overall as long as you turn in assignments, study regularly and attend class you will be fine.
Absolutely great professor, lots of homework, but very easy and exams are online and very simple if you study. Great professor and super hilarious. Would absolutely take again!
Amazing professor , his grading criteria is very clear and is always willing to help with any doubts you have.
Amazing professor, always available to help us with doubts .
Very good professor who cares about his students. Uses a lot of video examples and funny examples to make concepts easier to understand. Lengthy homework problems but they reflect what will be on the exams. Always willing to help if you put in the work. Great personality.
Professor Clemens was easy going and taught the class well. He was easy to understand and we had enough time to prepare for weekly quizzes. Definitely would recommend.
He is a great professor and I am glad I took his course! He really cares about his students and their success
Awesome professor. Watch out for homeworks and quizzes, but those will be very helpful for your tests and finals! Lectures are fun and easy to follow. Don't skip class because quizzes every lecture/lab dates!! (Pretty easy quizzes though)
Grading criteria isn't fair. Doing the homework & discussion posts are basically 0 contributors towards your grade and wouldn't raise it. However, if you don't do the homework & discussion, your grade will drop. Each week has around 90 questions for the homework, 1 discussion post with 2 replies to classmates and there's a total of 4 exams &1 final
I took this professor over the first half so summer and I had an A until I had to miss a day for religious reason and made me write a seven page essay to cover over one lab and he didnt even give me full credit and gave me and F for my final grade until I reached out to the dean office and received an c just because I missed a class.
makes class fun
Great teacher! Genuinely nice, and very personable. There are a lot of lectures and videos, and not the best examples. However, homeworks are extremely easy and tests are all open note.
literally best professor ever!! TAKE HIM!! he's so understanding and loves to joke around. always makes me laugh, and I loved the labs they were so fun! great professor take him for sure
Genuinely one of the best professors that I have had! He is super funny and makes Organic Chemistry seem easier than what it actually is.
Chill and loves to crack jokes. He occasionally tell stories about his time as a chemist. Exams can be tricky. Don't fall behind, keep studying. Once you fall behind, it'll feel like he's speaking another language. I fell behind but managed to pick it back up and did decently. (English is my third language, so maybe it's just me). Overall W prof
This professor is honestly one of the best professor's I've ever had. He taught the course material very well and always cracked jokes to keep the students engaged. He is lenient with the due dates and understands that you have a life outside of class and is a laid back professor. The exams match the homework and what he goes over in class.
Take him. Great Professor
Chemistry is a tough course that requires a lot of out of class studying. The work you put in will resembled the gra
Best chem professor I've ever had. He actually knows how to teach and explains his lectures in a fun way for easy understanding. He always has a story for everything and is a very hilarious and understanding professor. He's easy to talk to so if you need help always feel free to ask him! He's VERY extroverted and also beware of rib shots lol!!
Paul Clemens is an anomaly to the realm of higher education. He's zealous in teaching anything about chemistry & through his lectures it is clear that he is good at what he does. Show up to lectures/labs, participate, put in effort, show that you care, and you will succeed. Dr. Clemens is superb and has made my experience with chemistry delightful.
