Very good teacher, knows everything about the subject, extremely dedicated to his students. Great Guy, loves Chipotle!
Easy class, get this professor.
hes just a great guy, and a great prof.
Good professor. Will work with students out of class if they need help. All-around nice guy.
great professor.helps students and understands them.
Paul lets you call him by his first name because he wants you to be comfortable talking to him and asking for help.
proves that there are actually engineers with a sense of humor. nice guy, and a good teacher.
Took for a 2 hour matlab course. Really easygoing nice guy, very clear. Class had no homework and was easy easy. Get this dude!
Boring lectures make me sleepy, but other than that he's a good guy, knows his stuff, and down to earth.
Paul is a great teacher & a cool guy. He has a self depracating sense of humor that's pretty funny. Don't copy someone else's journal entry though! Even though they're worth like zero points That gets you in trouble.
Great class, very helpful guy. He'll bend over backwards to help you get through the quarter. Go with Clingan or Freuler for your FEH courses. Great profs.
Really nice guy, chipotle fan as well, cant go wrong! really helpful, willing to work with students after class, on off days, made this uninteresting subject doable
extremely helpful, funny as all get out, knows his stuff, the one class i could never fall asleep in
Bald and Awesome
Nice Guy...Chipotle lover, very helpful, has good TA's!
Great teacher!
Baldilocks is my hero
Very helpful, like chipotle, always a plus, gives an opportunity to ask any question in the world at the beginning of class
Great prof, comical, teaches material well in a "no-bull" fashion, very friendly and approachable, good TA's, knows his stuff
he is wonderful
Professor Clingan is bar none the best professor I've ever had. He is extremely helpful and cares for his students. And I'd be willing to bet you he's got a dirty joke to beat any one you've got to tell him.
Awesome prof. Took him for 192 and 193A. Willing to help you out of class as much as needed. In 193A, stayed every day towards the end of the quarter till 7:30 if we needed help in lab or on HW. TAs like him, you will too. Everything is reasonable, able to say something in different ways. Best FEH prof, period.
He's far and awya my favorite professor. Let's face it, FEH material is exceedingly boring and a pain. At least you can have a teacher who is great to be around!
He keeps the class fun and light hearted, but the room temp tends to make me want to fall asleep sometimes. He has an interesting sense of humor though!
Really good professor. No bull attitude. He knows the material, and will get through the lectures quickly. The course wasn't that interesting for me, but he definitely knows his stuff.
Really good professor with a real interest in students. Will usually always be available to help students who may be struggling. Some assignments can be difficult, but with the TA help and him around they are easier. Highly recommended!
He's a really great professor! He is helpful and you can tell he cares a lot about his students. Also kept the class lighthearted and fun even though it was stressful and a lot of work.
He is a great teacher that keeps the students interested.
God of a teacher. without question one of the best professors in the business. Programming used to be hard, this guy fixes everything. unbelievably amazing.
Fantastic teacher. Im not a great programmer but he made things easy by doing real examples on the board instead of muttering through slides already available to us. For all you engineers next year or in future years, make sure you get him. You won't regret it.
Clingan is a boss. If you can get him you should he is probably the best teacher i've had at ohio state because hes funny and is such a good teacher its almost hard not to get an A in his class. Nice guy, heck of a teacher. GET HIM
Awesome teacher! Best I've had in engineering so far! You are very lucky if you get him. He is very approachable and helpful...a great teacher overall!
Great guy, quite hilarious, and really enjoys teaching. Very helpful and approachable. Would highly recommend
One of the coolest teachers I've ever had. He made the class much more interesting than what it might have been. Highly recommend taking a class from him!
He was an amazing teacher. Best I've had yet. His teaching style is really helpful and He makes the dry stuff interesting.
Paul was a pretty nice guy before class, but once we got to London he started to give everyone a hard time and would offer almost no advice for what to do. I felt as though I was intruding on a personal trip and that he didn't have time for me. If you have the chance to go to London, GO. Just we warned.

Awesome instructor! Very good sense of humor so I almost always enjoyed class. I'm definitely not a programmer, but he made it possible to succeed. I'm really glad someone recommended him to me.
Mr. Clingan is an excellent professor. He always keeps class moving and interesting. He was sick one day, and another prof. filled in. I could see a difference right away - I was weak on that day's content all the way through the final exam. The lab reports are strenuous, but spreading out the work eases the pain. Get Clingan if you can.
A good teacher, though his competence with the advanced stuff leaves a little to be desired.
Great professor for FEH. Really, really funny and helpful! Made class interesting and kept me awake for lectures even though it was an early class.
Great teacher. Makes everything extremely clear and is always willing to help. Each class starts with a brief lecture for about 10 minutes and he probably cracks about 6 or 7 great jokes in that time. The class was enjoyable, even though it was a lot of work. Lab reports were tough but you will make it through alive. Welcome to FEH.
INCREDIBLE! Paul makes everything extremely clear from day one and is always willing to help. He is very knowledgeable in all matters regarding computers and he also makes class fun! You will likely hear between 5 and 7 great jokes per class period and taking this class at 8 AM was definitely a great way to start the day.
A terrific professor. Humorous, understanding, down to Earth. Truly a pleasure to have as a faculty member. Love this guy!
He "teaches" for all of 25 minutes of the 2 hour class and then left. The TAs were the only ones there to help, but they always had to reference the key to help with questions. You can go to his class, drop off your homework, and leave. He does not care if you are there.
Class was the easiest I had first semester other than survey. Paul makes it short and sweet during lecture and the class is easy to get a good grade in as long as you keep up with the assignments. Worst part of the class was my TA experience, watch out, they don't want to help you. Ask Paul directly when you have questions if you want help.
Paul Clingan was my favorite professor I have had thus far in college! He was great at explaining the topics, making examples that were fun and interesting to the students. He has a dry sense of humor, but his jokes are hilarious and he will crack multiple jokes throughout the course of the class period. He and the TAs were also very helpful.
Had Paul for first semester of FEH and Robot. Excellent teacher! His quirky sense of humor always makes class enjoyable. Probably one of my all time favorite teachers. If you are getting ready to take robot, have fun with it. It was the toughest, most rewarding, and most enjoyable classes I have taken.
Paul is hilarious. He wants to help you learn.
Paul has been by favorite professor in my first year at OSU. Extremely funny and really wants to get to know you. The 1282.02H class was challenging in terms of workload but Paul truly does his best to make it easier on the students. He's very supportive and always there for you. Overall great professor.
Paul was my favorite professor last year. He was so funny and helpful on everything and truly tried to get to know each of the students personally. He was clearly intelligent and loved helping students. I ended up changing my major out of engineering but I would take his robot class again for sure! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Paul's a really good professor to have if you are being introduced to programming. He spends most of the class walking around helping people after a short lecture. TAs also were very helpful and personable. Highly recommend his class, that being said, it is difficult and you better be ready to get Bs and Cs on things you worked very hard on.
His videos about C and MATLAB were the greatest pieces of art to ever grace my eyes. FEH is hard but Mr. Clingan is a great instructor.
All around great guy. He wants you to succeed and truly cares about his students. He's super funny too. Really nice guy.
I had Paul for ENGR1281 and the robot project. He is absolutely hilarious and really easy to talk to. One of my favorite professors at OSU. His lectures are short, so be prepared to read the slides before class.
He's an good lecturer and overall great dude. I don't remember the content in the class being to difficult. He's very supportive during the extremely intensive robot project.
Paul is a good guy, loved his class. Would recommend for FEH.
Would recommend. But NOT the .02 version. The advanced programming simply assigns more work. It will NOT help you learn more programming. Definitely just take 1281.01
ENGR 1281.02H has a lot of homework, but as long as you do all of it you should get an A. The course is fairly standardized so your lecturer doesn't matter too much, but I found Clingan's lectures to be boring with too much forced "comedy". You can skip half the lectures and still get an A, however, as the content is fairly easy.
ENGR 1282.01H is a very time consuming class for 3 credit hours, but it isn't very difficult in terms of grading. The robot project was very time consuming but not nearly as much as you may have heard. As long as you do the work you should get an A. The beginning SolidWorks section was fairly difficult though.
Great guys, willing to help you if you need it. I like his sense of humor, his jokes help make the tough project a little more bearable. TAs do most of the grading.
You must stay on top of all of the work to pass this class.
Mr. Clingan is a great professor. He knows the class is a lot of work regardless of how it's taught, so he makes it as bearable as he can. He lectures for about half an hour at the start of lectures and the rest of the time is yours. If you have any issues, he will do anything within his power to fix them and genuinely seems to like teaching.
Awesome dude
Paul Clingan is an excellent instructor. I highly recommend him for the first year honors engineering courses. Most of the instructors chosen by FEH are of high caliber, and Clingan is no exception. There will be a lot of homework, but if you pay attention and go to class you will learn a lot.
FEH is a demanding course. With that being said, none of the problems I had in the class were with Clingan. He is an amazing person who deeply cares about how each and every one of his students is doing in class. He has a ridiculous amount of office hours too. One problem is that sometimes he moves a little fast, but his other qualities redeem him
Paul is just an awesome guy. FEH is a tough class both semesters, but he cares about his students and does his best to help you succeed. I thought he had a great sense of humor, and he was always available when I needed help.
Paul made a class that I was scared to take fun and mostly not overwhelming, even though it was a lot of work. He is funny, kind, genuine, and considerate. He always checked in on students for questions, comments, and concerns, and he actually listened and provided help or solutions if there were any. Even online, he was a fantastic professor!
I had Paul for the FEH Nano project and definitely would recommend him. He is super laidback and has an extremely dry sense of humor. He's pretty approachable and cares about his students. Even though he's not an expert in nanotechnology/microbiology, he does his best to help you through the project along with the TA's.
Clingan is a fantastic, funny, and caring professor, and while the course is very difficult as is, Clingan does his best to make it as manageable as possible.
Paul was one of the kindest and most resourceful professors that I have had thus far at OSU. He truly cares about his students and makes the at times boring content more lively with his humor. He offers great advice and is willing to sit and help students with various assignments!
Very fun lectures and labs, however, this is a LOT of work for a 2 credit hour class. None of it is exceptionally difficult, but you're at the mercy of the teammates that you are assigned. Paul is an incredible professor and makes the class very fun to get involved in, and my lab team became some of my good friends. Highly recommend his class
My only gripe with Professor Clingan was how hard it could be to hear him at time in the class especially if you sat further in the back. Overall, he was a wonderful teacher, note that the readings and paying attention in class are extremely beneficial especially if you have no background in computer languages.
Good teacher, tells jokes during lectures to keep it entertaining
GOAT. Amazing lectures, super caring, funny, and understanding professor. Make sure you go to class, if you Fundamentals of Engineering is a hard set of courses, honors or not, so be prepared to do a LOT of homework. His lectures helped me a lot with understanding how to do homework. Very nice guy
Best instructor for this course; you'll definitely get an A if you submit all the work and it's done competently, but you'll have to pour in tons of hours outside of class to finish the assignments in the first place.
Amazing guy. Genuinely funny and cares about the students.
"A pointer is a variable that has as its value the address of another variable." Great at teaching and super funny too. He made a difficult class the most fun one I've taken. Textbooks were offered, but I never bothered to read them since the same material was covered in class anyway.
Paul cares about all of his student's learning and teaches in a fun and engaging way.
great guy. class is fun and he is fun. nothing bad to say. pretty easy A as long as your group stays on top of everything.
Clingan was a great professor. I had him for both ENGR 1281.01H and ENGR 1282.01H. Both of the courses are structured by the FEH program, so the content of the class is not really up to him. Clingan did an amazing job though. He's funny, caring, and gives great lectures.
Paul is the best; he is so easy to work with and talk to inside and outside of class. Definitely take this class with him because he makes it so much more manageable and enjoyable over the course of the semester. He is also so funny and will never fail to make you laugh. Class is a lot of work, but the grading criteria is clear.
The guy knows what he is doing and has great lectures that teach the content very well. He is also always available to help with assignments and is really chill.
