He is a cool guy! You can't full this man when it comes to what he knows. He is very easygoing and always willing to help. He is very intouch with how his students are doing. A good class to take! There is a lot of reading for this class.
wonderful class, highly recomend him. He is very helpful and willing to work with you. take his class if you can.
Professor Cooper is a good teacher, he works with you if you need extra help, I htought he was a very nice guy, and he knows what he is talking about when it comes to History.
This guy is brilliant in the subject of History. The class is extremely boring though. But easy... Class participation is worth 32% so come to class everyday. Tests are pretty hard, and only 3 HW assignments. Pretty laid back class, if you come everyday you should get a B or an A.
Prof. Cooper has been very clear about our class' requirements. His participation in our discussion boards helped us stay on the right path.
Verry boring class, I am a history major, I love history and I was falling asleep in his class. He is a rather easy grader though. Just make sure to study like crazy on your own if you plan on getting an A. He tests from the book, and a little from lecture, so don't only listen in class you also have to read a huge amount.
Just finished summer class. Awesome class, very interesting, lots of cool videos. Tests are fair and he provides study guides. Overall highly recommend this teacher. Will go extra mile to help his students.
Boring lectures, straight forward grading. Don't even need to buy the book, just get the study guide and use Encarta to look up the info for the tests. Nice guy but really boring class. If you're a history major take lamphere (you'll learn more) otherwise Cooper is pretty good just sooooo boring.

when i first signed up for this class i thought it would be easy. then when i saw the silibus i thought it would be very hard but when i got to the tests it was really easy. just study. and the guy is so wierd and amusing that he will at least keep you paying attention. that was the one class that semester that i didnt almost fall asleep in. it is a really good class for non-history majors.
He is a good teacher. 4 Quizs, 1 paper, a mid term and a final. Very clear in what he wants and expects. Very enlightened to current events and tactics. I would recomend this class to anyone who likes the military or history!! You will not be sorry.
I took him online and it was a lot of work but he's an easier grader than he lets on. His quizes are easy, just read the chapter!! That will help you on the midterm and final too. I hate history and got an A. I can say He's VERY knowledgable on the subject
The class was a bit hard due to the 15 or so chapter quizzes.......LOTS OF READING.......yet an overall easy class because of his ease of schedule. he let me turn in 60 percent of the class work in the last two weeks eventhough they were late and I got an A!!!!
Cooper is fun, he knows his stuff and you can tell that he really enjoys teaching. He is kind of nerdy in cute way. He's really chill about you missing a class or 5. Just make sure that you do the reading and keep all the hand outs and notes.
took online spring 07. somewhat easy online, a couple of essays but overall good exp. would take again.
I also took him for 17B; I loved his class. Quizzes are easy; just study handouts. He never uses the textbook in class for anything, but it's important to have as a reference for final and midterm essays. His lectures are SO amusing - tons and tons of sarcastic humor - definitely fun to sit through. Also incredibly knowledgeable about history.
Cooper does a poor job of presenting the facts of history. He is so biased in his opinions. His lectures are okay, nothing special. It would be a good move to take this with someone else or to clep the class.
THE GUY THINKS HE IS FUNY BUT HE ISN'T.
Kool teacher you are required to write the mother of all papers on the dumbest book ever but not all is lost 34 dollers on ITunes Crobra II look it up saved my life. the book is over 600 pages and i listened to it in a Week.
For the most part I liked this class. On the downside, he let people turn in the term paper months after it was due. He also talked non-stop in class lecturing, to the point that I took my laptop to class because I can type faster then I can write. His tests were difficult, too much to remember. I would not take him again.
Great professor. One of the funniest I've had, makes his students feel welcome. I looked forward to attending his class; makes history go smoothly, gives you a lot of opportunities. Hard NOT to pass the class. Just go and do the work. Yeah you take notes, come on, it's History!
If you like dry witty sarcasm,Cooper is the man. Hes a great teacher and has a huge amount of knowledge on the European stage. He know his stuff and teaches the ins and outs of history. I guess you could say he teaches you whats really going on. He gives you his power point handouts, but make sure anything he emphasizes on a slide you write down.
Mr. Cooper knows his stuff - highly recommended! Some tips: Uses PowerPoint & dims the lights - consider a booklight for lecture notes. Treats History with the respect it deserves and doesn't "water it down" (nor should he), so study well. You'll LEARN in his course - I'd take another class with him in a heartbeat.
Very boring. Other than that it was the easiest A I've ever had in college. He gave the class 150 extra credit points when the total class points is 1000. Gives lots of points just for showing up too. I averaged about a C- on the tests and got a A+ in the class. Nice guy, creepy jokes.
This class isnt an easy A, but it is very easy to get a decent grade in it. He lectures and you watch a movie about every week. He's very chill on coming in late or not showing up. Grading is very easy, you only write one essay, 2 tests and you get points just for showing up. So if you mess up on the tests you still are fine. I would recommend him
I took 4 classes from him and received A's in all of them. Three tests, one research paper, and movie notes. He can be rather eccentric at times. Has a sense of humor that only he laughs at. Just go to class. Overall I recommend him to anyone and everyone.
I took this class Online and it was hard. The tests are the most horrible part of the class. I am an A/B student and I wasn't able to get anything better than a D on all the tests. BUT, he is really good with getting back to students on the DB. I recommend the class, but be prepared to do ALL the reading!!! Dedicate yourself to the class.
Excellent lecture style
very knowledgeable and full of information.
Lectures were awful, full of grammatical errors, and his tests covered so much information without any structure. Overall, he wasn't the hardest teacher, but his class was a joke and I would not recommend taking him.
TOOK ONLINE. Hated textbook. Took LOTS of notes on lectures so I only had to use textbook on quiz, always got a B. DB every week, 2 exams, 1 extra credit quiz, Term Paper. Accepted late work. Wants you to succeed. Long Lectures (50 full slides)
He was a great teacher, he responded to emails in a timely fashion. The only thing was the quizes were timed but did NOT give you nearly enough time to complete, I would have learned a lot more if there was more time on the exams. Eve with cheat sheet it was nearly impossible in 1 hour.
Took a very long time to grade, and did not return emails. I took this class online, and saw maybe 8 posts from him the whole semester.
Very nice teacher, funny guy. Very easy grader. Reccommend him!
Great professor! His lectures are very thorough and demand attention. Tests were based primarily on lecture notes, so attending class was an absolute must. Being a military veteran and history buff, I was completely satisfied. He had no personal bias when it came to instruction, and the class was very enjoyable.
Really hard grader. I took a Summer History Course with him and he held us in class at least 20 minutes over each time just to cram in all of the lecture. I don't know if it was because we were a summer class or what, but i did not enjoy him one bit. :(
Online Class - Lectures full of grammatical errors. Tests were somewhat hard. Lets you turn in late work. One essay due in the class. Average response time to emails and questions. Be prepared to do all of the reading to do well in the class.
Yes this is the class you want for history. He’s a really nice guy and passionate about the subject. Lectures are from powerpoint slides, you don't have to take notes in class they are all posted on D2L.Tests are exclusively off notes and he allows you to bring 8x11 sheet to the exam. 1 book report, 5 videos just take notes for credit, extra credit
Great class and Great proffesor. I took His. 17a and really enjoyed it. It is definitely a lectured style class, but he is great at presenting history in a story kind of way and makes it incredibly interesting. I would recommend this class to anyone who is willing to do a little homework and a little studying. You get out what you put in.Great Class
If you need to take a US History class, Pro Cooper is the teacher to have! On line, or in the classroom, Cooper is the best. 3 test, weekly discussion boards, and a few extra credit projects. Tests are section tests and based totally on his lecture slides. You must keep up on the work and reading but it is not hard at all. Great teacher!
1 discussion board and 2 replies each week; 3 exams. This class would have been very easy except that he requires footnotes on your discussion boards and he will dock you points if you mess up any part of it. The 3 exams have huge matching questions so watch out. The questions are based mostly on the lectures. The reading is not difficult.
I took Paul Cooper over Summer school for History 17A. He's a great professor. His Summer school class is way easier than any other History 17A class you would take in Spring or Fall. Trust me!
Worst history class I've ever taken. Cooper was all over the place and the information given was very disconnected. He made several inappropriate comments over the course of the semester and the tests were on the most obscure facts barely mentioned in the lectures. I wouldn't recommend taking him.
I wouldn't take this professor. He claimed at the beginning of the semester that he wouldn't do the whole "death by power point" thing, yet all we did was listen to him lecture and go through the (literally) hundreds of slides of power point. He wasn't clear on what would be on the midterm after giving us so much material, and it was difficult.
All his assignments for his online class have to do with reading from one of the 2 required texts and giving feedback on it. It's all about your opinion so he grades you on your footnotes. Tests are really hard, but Google helps. Everything on the test is in the lecture notes too. I passed the class without ever reading from the large text book.
Attendance is important since your exams rely on lecture material only. He provides print outs of his power points, take notes on them and use for studying exams. Two books were assigned - Taking Sides was used for writing assignments, the other isn't needed at all. Professor is really helpful and knowledgeable about history.
Good; nice lecture notes, comprehensive syllabus, ability to take exams twice, his incessant need for footnotes didn't curb my passion. Bad; unhealthy obsession with footnotes, 20 chapters pertaining to California covered in final 2 weeks, stops offering feedbackdoesn't follow grade grid why he marked down discussion posts after couple weeks.
Paul is the best!. I had him for American Military History, how inspiring. He can literally reenact every American battle EXACTLY as it happened. He brings up maps and literally shows you exactly what happened as if it was a football play! He is really excited about it and loves it! He is very inspiring, incredibly approachable and very friendly!
Confusing during lectures but overall a good professor!
Took his online History 17B class. Has long lectures, although most of the exams are based on them so if you take notes on the lectures- you're probably going to pass. Literally bought all the books- used only one. If you're trying not to splurge on buying books you'll probably only use the Annual Editions book that he asks you to have.
Great Professor and would definitely take him again! He offers help to students who want to learn and offers extra credit. Able to connect with students. Exams are doable. Reading is a must if you want a passing grade. Makes history interesting, and entertaining as well. Very knowledgable, and approachable man! Would recommend him to anyone!
Amazing instructor! His lectures are clear and easy to understand as long as you pay attention. Do not miss class and be sure to keep up with the weekly reading assignments. Preparing for tests will require a good amount of study time so don't get lazy. I would take this teacher again even if I didn't need the credit.
I would never recommend you this instructor to take him for an online class. He is freaking tough grader and never respond to my emails. I did really work hard but unfortunately it is my first class that's not an A. TAKE ANOTHER INSTROCTER.
Great professor! I highly recommend him you will not regret it . I took online class and it was a great experience. Cooper responded to all of my email quickly and also on the weekends and was very HELPFUL! Be prepared to study and read his lecture notes and do the assignments on time and you will be fine. He gives you 2 tries on the exam!
I took the Hist 17A online. Professor Cooper makes history interesting and fun. This class is straight forward and easy. Online exams and 10 online discussions. Great professor and would definitely take him again!
He is kinda tough grader. He won't respond to most of the emails. I would not recommend him unless you do not have any other option like me. You can get an A if you work hard. Hard weekly db. 3 exams.
Hopefully Mr. Cooper is a better teacher in class than online. Do not, Do not take his online class. Every week I sent him an e-mail with a question on why he graded me down and 16 e-mails later I still have not gotten a response. His exams are 15 questions with very open ended questions such as "was a soldier turned priest" do not take online!
The best professor ever! I took online class and it was a great experience. Professor Cooper responded to all of my email quickly. He is very helpful! Just do your studying, read his lecture notes and do the assignments on time and you will be fine!
Cooper surprised me when he answered my email in minutes. Very helpful, I don't know what the other person is talking about with his not answering emails. He always answered mine on Canvas. The three tests are not hard if you look at his lectures especially when taking the exam. His discussions are easy if you do what he asks it is an easy A.
Great online class I really enjoyed it and history was never a favorite of mine before! I found the material very interesting and I plan to take 17B from Cooper as well. I highly recommend him!!!
Great class, one my favorite Professors!
Great class, one of my favorite professors!!!
Professor Cooper was GREAT! He was always ready to answer your questions. He was respectful to his students and willing to take criticism about the layout of the class. He responded well and gave great feedback. Offered extra credit. There is a regular amount of text book reading, some lectures and a good deal of videos to watch.
He was very specific with what He wants in his essays. I recommend recording the in-class Lectures. These were very useful. or take very good notes. Great sense of humor.
His lectures are interesting but his exams are really hard and confusing.
I would take more history classes from Prof. Cooper if I could. Test can be hard but I usually pull up his lectures while I take them and I'm good. I haven't used the textbook once. He's big on videos and they can be pretty long but are usually interesting. Always answers emails and offers an extra credit assignment.
An absolutely amazing history teacher that makes you appreciate the roles that different people played in military history. Displays major and some minor battles like a football play and changes his voice to a (comical) British accent when imitating British commanders/soldiers. Has amazing history tidbits that make it memorable and hilarious.
This Professor really knows what he is teaching. I recommend taking him if you history is not your strong point or you are just taking it to get your GE our of the way. He does not assign much, there is a weekly discussion and 4 quizzes through out the semester. I really appropriated his feedback, he gave tips and recognized improvement.
The best History professor ever! I took online class and it was a great experience and I am taking him again next semester. He is very helpful and wants you to succeed ! Just read his lecture notes and power points and you will be fine. I highly recommend him!!!
Super class. He is knowledgeable, class is interesting, and grading is very fair. As long as you do your work, you should be able to do well. I would definitely take him again and recommend this prof to anyone.
Paul doesn't really respond to e-mails, but when he does it's always very nice. The quizzes can be SUPER TRICKY so read carefully. In your discussion board posts, you MUST cite your sources properly. Each DB needs to be done by Tuesday after being given the prompt Sunday, but usually Monday, and 900 words MIN. Expect a lot of video watching too!
Overall his class is pretty easy, there are no major tests, just a quiz and a discussion for each section. But his grading was inconsistent. I was marked down on many occasions for incorrect grammar and spelling, which his lectures are filled with. Also when you take your quizzes he doesn't tell you what answers you got wrong.
I take mostly online classes, and this is the best one I have had yet. This class is well-organized, and prof is very good at communicating with you through the semester. If you follow the clear criteria, you should be able to do a good job. If you need an online history, this prof is the one to take.
Great online class I really enjoyed it and history was never a favorite of mine before! I found the material very interesting. Responds to my email very quickly. I highly recommend him!
I took Professor Cooper's online class. Not a boring class at all. The weekly discussions are on videos, tests are on his lectures. I never bought the main textbook. I only needed the California politics book. My only complaint is that Professor Cooper incorporates his own political ideas into his lectures, and it seems like he hates America.
Good teacher, but is super picky on citing with discussion posts. 5-6 discussion post and 4 quizzes/tests. That's it. Missing anything affects your grade like crazy...
I took Cooper's 8 week online class this past spring. Class is definitely text heavy and requires a lot of attention. However, Cooper does a good job of providing a framework that keeps students on track. Just like any online class, it is important to keep yourself in check. It is very easy to fall behind!
Cooper's eight week online class was pretty easy to get through, but I found it a bit dry. He assigns a lot of discussions that are based off of reading and video assignments. I personally enjoy history, so I found the course more palatable but I can see why others may find it boring. However, Professor Cooper is one of the better options!
Great instructor! His lectures are clear and easy to understand as long as you pay attention. Do not miss class and be sure to keep up with the weekly reading assignments. Preparing for tests will take some time, focus on his lectures and you will be OK. I would and have taken this professor again.
He lectures a lot. No videos In class but tries to make it fun by joking. Very passionate about what he teaches. His exams are hard because you cant just google the questions (youll be lucky to find the answer to one question) but they are online so you can use notes/lectures
I took this class online. There are 4 tests. The first one is easy but the other 3 are very difficult. Weekly discussion posts, he wants you to have footnotes a certain way and if they are not his way you get marked down points. You have to sign into Canvas 3 times or more each week on different days or else you will be considered absent.
Took an online course. Lots of videos and even more reading. If youre a busy person looking to earn credits on your own time in your busy life, you might try another professor. He isnt terrible, just requires a lot of time. If you do ALL the reading and watch ALL the videos youll easily put in 10 hours a week.
4 quizzes, online video responses for discussions. This is an easy class to get an A in. He realizes its a requirement for bachelors and doesn't make you suffer. Very easy going and helpful. I'd suggest taking both his history classes to meet the BA/BS requirement.
Great instructor! His lectures are clear and easy to understand as long as you pay attention. Do not miss class and be sure to keep up with the weekly reading assignments. Has 4 quizzes which are not so bad since you can take them twice and you can see which answers you got wrong, focus on his lectures and you will be OK.
Very fast to answer online questions. No essay, 4 quizzes, 8 discussions based on films. Don't need to buy textbook just look at his online lectures for quizzes. You get to take the quizzes twice and see which questions you got wrong and he is real generous on his make up work for the discussions although he does have late penalties.
Super world history class. He is knowledgeable, class is interesting, and grading is very fair. He has actually traveled around the world so he knows what he is talking about. As long as you do your work, you should be able to do well. I would definitely take him again and recommend this prof to anyone.
Great professor, he really helped me out. Very organized class amazingly easy to find what you needed like assignments . Easy to reach too if I had a problem and sent him a message he responded very quickly. Keep up on your work and turn your assignments in on time and you will be fine.
I took Hist 17B online over summer. It was pretty easy! We watched videos and answered questions for our discussions. We had online quizzes that we had 2 chances to do and he made it really clear he wanted us to use our notes/book/lectures to answer them! I actually found history interesting!
I loved him so much, he really knows his stuff. But he does grade by 4 quizzes and 4 discussions. 1 map quiz. Defiantly taking him again in the future.
Nearly every class is ALL lecture, twice a month the class is half lecture, half movie with an accompanying written assignment. He posts the video link online so if you miss class you can still get the participation points. Hes funny and always includes random funny interesting facts in the lecture. There is an online test every 4 chapters.
Everything is online. There are 4 quizzes, 4 discussions, and a map project. You are allowed to take quizzes twice and to make up late work like discussions. Professor Cooper is really helpful and is easy to reach and answers questions quickly. I highly recommend him and would take him again
Tells funny stories. Textbook not necessary. Class is lecture heavy, he gives you all info needed for tests. Accepts late work, is accommodating. Typical class: 1/2 lecture, 1/2 movie, take notes on both, he collects them for points. 6 discussions, 1 PowerPoint due, and 4 exams. Not an online class but all work/exams were online. Easy class!
In all honestly, I thought this class was too easy. I took it over the summer in 6 weeks, 100%+. I often felt bored that I was able to do the work quickly. However, I would say Professor Cooper was really helpful and great! He made the class really easy to follow and was really easy to time manage. My recommendations: notes and 2x speed!
Do not take him. Horrible professor that is very unprofessional
I took this professor's Military War History class. The class is very lecture heavy. 3 hours of class once a week. Half lecture, half war documentaries. The exams were really easy. They're done at home so they're open book. There's a discussion board once a week for homework. He gives out packets of the lecture so you don't even need to take notes.
Mr. Cooper's class is a breeze. Very clear grading criteria, no surprises. No papers, quizzes are very easy (open note) and just pay attention. Very lecture heavy, but manageable given the interesting topics and his sense of humor. He's very understanding and accomadating. A great class for online students especially (COVID-19).
Took History 17B online (during COVID19) and it was the easiest class Ive ever taken. I took it over summer and it was only 6 weeks long, 3 discussions, 5 quizzes, 1 project. Only need book for a project, which I just borrowed from the library since I only needed it for a couple days. Googled all quiz questions (you get 2 attempts on every quiz).
Professor Cooper and History 17B was a blessing during this Covid-19 Summer. The class was fast paced enough that kept me engaged and not bored during quarantine. Definitely an easy A but you'll still take away a lot of good knowledge out of the class and Cooper has some truly awesome lecture in my opinion. Class is heavy on movies, but easy tests.
AWFUL. I took military history to get a better understanding of things like the wars and we never made it past Hitler. Didnt touch on the other half of the war in the Pacific or Vietnam, Korea, Gulf or Iraq. Dont waste your time, you learn more in 8th grade than in this class with this professor!!!!
Barely any work week to week and everything was clearly stated properly. Given covid affected everything he was very understanding for all students needs
This class made me not hate history. The lessons were clear and engaging, he talks kind of slow and there are a lot of lectures but I liked the class. He offers two attempts of tests which really came in handy and answers emails quickly. He let us access the PowerPoint outside of the lecture and was pretty easy on grading. Would recommend.
This class is easy to get a good grade in as long as you put in the work. He expects high-quality work for every assignment. Other than that, the workload was very manageable. He also is good at responding to emails quickly and will be more than willing to answer any questions.
Professor Cooper was sooo nice. I missed like 4 assignments and he still let me make them up after 2 weeks because he wanted to make sure I passed. He is very nice and caring!!! Plus he responds quickly through canvas! 10/10 would recommend to all my friends!
Great Professor. VERY little work, around 4 hours of documentaries that were interesting, along with questions for 2 weeks work. Class was a very easy A, 100% would take again.
Professor Cooper's is an amazing college-beginner course. Units were split into 2-week sections with 1 large assignment, alternating between a discussion requiring 4+ hours of documentaries or a quiz. He expected high-quality work on discussions and gave two opportunities on quizzes, including the final. Great professor, and would take it again!
Professor Cooper was an amazing instructor with very few assignments, but lots of material. The weeks were split into sections alternating with a DB and quiz. I took his 6 week course over the summer and I highly recommend. Lots of films to watch but they were so interesting I really enjoyed watching them all. You won't regret taking his class!
Overall, he gives pretty easy assignments and light load, he publishes the units on canvas so that you go through them two weeks at a time which I like. Just a few discussion boards and easy quizzes if you follow the lectures, the videos aren't great, but they get you by. An easy A.
Pretty simple class if you did the readings, listened to the lectures, and did the discussion boards (only a couple of them). Great professor!
Pretty decent class, there were not a lot of assignments, so make sure you do them on time so you don't fall behind. His lectures are very easy to follow, and make sure to get the book because you'll 100% need it for a project. I never get textbooks, but you can't get around this one.
Pretty simple class with a light workload, some textbooks were mandatory but only the CA in the American System was truly necessary. Not a lot of assignments so make sure to get them all done on time. A very doable A as long as you do the work and study for the quizzes. Would absolutely recommend you take him.
Good class, beware lots of reading and long lectures. Assignments every other week, so that helps with the reading/lecture load. Very clear grading criteria, if you do your assignments by his rubric you're almost guaranteed an A.
Simple class if you do the readings and participate. The professor is great - their lectures are engaging and the discussions are worthwhile. I found Unstuck AI really helpful for preparing for this class.
Watch the lectures (2x speed if you want), skim the text, and you'll do just fine. I found this class very interesting.
Great professor; If taking online, you can get a lot of work done in advance. I binged a lot of Professor Cooper's work in advance to make room for my more weekly classes. Good feedback on grading, communicates with students, and has relaxed projects. I had a quiz on 4 chapters every month or so throughout the semester.
Great professor; I would take him 100 times over. Very few assignments during the semester, and very easy project at the end. He also provides extra credit towards the end of the semester if needed. makes sure he gives you time to turn in late work. He wants you to pass!!! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
