He is a very tough at grading but he gets you ready for the proficiency exam! He is a funny and very helpful teacher. I loved his class but I do admit it was not the easiest but I learned a lot!

AVOID THIS MAN AT ALL COSTS! He's so boring and his tests are impossible to pass. (if you're a normal person who can't devote every waking hour to basically MEMORIZING long and dull poems and what not) This class is so hard to stay awake in, half my class falls alseep every day (including me)

he gives you thw quiz questions and answers, he helps you when you ask for it. He makes a lot of corny jokes and dances in rythym to how he spells words??

He's a VERY good teacher. If you want someone who gives you the answers to the test the day before, take him. He explains everything. I also took him for 102 and thought he was hard, but he IS a great professor.

Awesome. Very helpful. He gives you answers to the tests--you just have to remember them. If you make the corrections he writes on your rough drafts, he brings your grade up ALOT. I made A's in both classes

Mr. Crawford is a great English teacher. My writing greatly improved after taking his class.

He is a tough teacher but EXCELLENT. He does go over ALL tests before hand - so you DO have all the info you need. But you still NEED to study. I loved him so much that I took 232 and was even hoping to take 231 w/him.If you don't mind a tough teacher or you love a teacher who TEACHES, take him. (B's in both classes 'cause I didn't study very hard)

He's a little bit cheesy at times but overall an easy teacher. I'm in his class presently and I have an A. If you're not willing to work you're not going to pass his class. It all comes down to whether or not you're lazy.

Crawford is one of the best teachers you will ever come across in your academic career. He is not easy, for he genuinely wants you to learn how to write and will achieve his goal if you wish to learn as well. I made an A in his class. Seriously study for those quizzes right after he gives you the answers...he doesnt announce when its going to be.

Can teach writing, but does so with a condescending air, depending on his mood or whether or not he likes a particular student. Jokes are painfully cheesy and he has a tendency to favor white students. He does genuinely care in a general sense, but also seems misguided and quite provincial. I don't appreciate his homophobic sentiments at all.

He is an avid literaturist and tries to make his students appreciate the works. There is a great deal of material covered as long as you attend class and pay close attention during the reviews A's & B's are easily attainable. He is extremely fair, at least he was in the literature class.

He is not as hard as you think he is going to be. His test are pretty easy and you always see them before you take them.

Very tough teacher but wants to help as much as possible. You go to his office before a paper's due he proofs it. Gives an idea of what of mistakes. It's up to you to go through the paper and find similar errors and others he may have overlooked. He makes you work for your grade. But it's there in the end. Your writing improves drastically.

Deffinitely a great teacher. One of a dying breed I think. You might have to work a little in his class, but he's a very fair grader and will help you in any way possible. Doesn't announce quizzes, but lets you look at them before you take them. He grades your papers once then gives them back and allows revisions and grades them again. Easy A!

He was one of the greatest teachers I have had. He is a tough grader and a stickler for good grammar and he hates comma splices. He says it gives him great pain. He was very funny and he joked around, but got the information we needed to get without being boring. Lets us revise our papers after he grades it once. I highly recommend him.

He's a good teacher. He shows all the tests before you take them. He doesn't announce his tests, but you can guess when they are. He grades fairly. If you don't work hard, you won't get a good grade. Go to the writing center. That helps a lot as well. Also, PAY ATTENTION TO HIS PET PEEVES.

Very grader, but a great guy. Teaches you how to write better, and expects alot out of his students. His class will make you a better writer in the long run. TAKE HIM if you want to be a better writer.

hard subject to teach, but shows great passion in this subject. you have to study for the tests but reads passages in class and tells parts of the passages that you need to know for the test. final is pretty hard. but other tests he shows you before taking them so be prepared for the first test so that you know whats on it.

Paul Crawford is an amazing teacher. My writing has improved exponentially. He is an extremely difficult teacher though. He does show you his test but one must still study for them. He tries to crack jokes and makes the class sort of interesting. He is an overall good guy, so be ready to work your butt off.

I absolutely loved this class. Mr. Crawford makes learning fun, and he loves to joke with students. He tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes and tests. He will make you a better writer.

a really nice and funny guy. He read every poem/story so reading at home didn't matter. Only bad thing was the review and how his tests were. He would say a quote or something in poem (he would say "woodchuck") and the class would have to remember who wrote it and what poem. We weren't allowed to record the answers or quotes. Took him for spring 08 and he was very easy. He read the poem and story out loud to the class and explain what the poet is saying he even drop hint of what qoutes might be on the test. take advantage of that. 3 test relly study for test 2. It a differnce of A or B. 1 Paper, easy. This class is great for those who arnt good at interpeting AM Lit

He makes the reading interesting while relatin.Test are hard because you have to remember the quotes and who wrote them but he goes over all readings and he even brings the test to class and do a review with the actual test bad thing is you have to have a great memory.best class I have ever had because we pulled together as a class for a good grade

If you don't give a crap about English and are taking 102 because it is a requirement of your degree (likely) DO NOT take Crawford. We had spelling test... Over the semester he was helpful with all of the papers and getting them right. He is extremely anal. I felt like I was in high school all over again!!

Love this teacher. RECOMM taking him because he read the poems to the class and then clarify the poem, so if your bad in understanding what the hell the poem is means take him. He gives hints(well he acually tells you what quotes are on the test) so pay attention. 3 test and 1 paper very easy you will get an A or B . Watch out for the second exam!

If you can't interpret literature for yourself, he explains what it means, (Or what it could mean) and asks for your opinion for interpretations while reading the articles. For me, it drove me crazy because I'm not an idiot who needs every piece of literature explained to me, but he's pretty good. I reccomend.

this teacher tells corny jocks but he is really funny at times. He is really hard on essays, but you can make it up with all his quiz which he gives answers to in advance. If you are lazy don't take him!

Crawford is very sweet! Honestly, he wants things done a certain way. If you type the papers according to his list of "pet peeves" and you double check everything, you will make good grades on his papers. He gives out study guides for each quiz and as long as you know the answers on the study guide, you will ace the quiz.

i loveee mr. crawford. he is the cutest old man. very sweet and funny. You have to go to class and he grades pretty hard on papers.(very stingy)but he lets you revise papers and turn in a second copy with his notes, so its not that bad.i learned a lot in his class and actually enjoyed English this year. Definitely take mr.c

Honestly I'm taking him for 102 as well. He's an excellent teacher and he will allow you to learn from your mistakes. He's difficult with grading but allows multiple drafts and revisions. Don't take him if you're lazy, you won't do well. Study for the quizzes because he gives you word for word answers. I loved him.

I had him for 102 and 232. He is an awesome teacher. You might have to earn your grade in this class, but you learn so much from him that it is all worth it. He is one of the best teacher at SELU, but if you are planing on being lazy don't take him, you will probably fail. I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn

Mr Crawford is awesome! Yes, he gets off topic; yes his handwriting is hard to read; and yes he isn't that funny. However, he is a wonderful teacher who cares about his students. If you ask him for help, he'll help you. I constantly asked questions in his class and he explained them to me. Trust me, you should take his class!!!!!!!

Lets just say I didn't like him when I got my first essay back. I gained vast knowledge in his class though. I am an honors student and need A's but right now I am proud about the B I hold in Crawford's class. It might hurt me when it comes to grades but I will take him in 102. Lets just hope he is glad to see me.

Mr. Crawford is a very helpful and knowledgeable teacher. He grades hard but teaches you how to become a better writer. His puts the quizzes on BB and all you have to do is memorize them. You can get an A in the class.

He's the best teacher ever! His Class is not the easiest but you can pass, and he will help you pass. I took him for 101 Fall2010 (so im taking him now) and I will be taking him next semester for eng 102 and I recommended him to ALL of my friends! Take this man!

He is the best teacher I ever had. If you want to learn English, he is the man to go to.He will bend over backwards to help you. He is an excellent teacher and you would be stupid not to take his class. This is not a class you can get an easy A. However, in the end it is worth the effort. His class is going to be hard if you don't attend but you'll learn well if you do. Mr. Crawford is a very straight forward and bluntly spoken person that takes great pride in his job.  He's a really good professor that works well with serious students...you'll learn a lot!;) I loved his class! Not sure why people are bashing Mr. C. He is a great teacher for a boring class! Sure he goes off subject every now and then, but it keeps the class interested. He has a love for literature and will help you with anything as long as ayou come to class and ask. I reccomend MR. C to everyone!

People who bash on Prof. Cr at most likely the ones that dont like to do work. he has a way of keeping the class fun and makes everyone laugh. he is by far the best eng teach i have ever had. he expects you to work and i yo dont you will fail his class. be ready to write. he gives you the essay prompt on blackboard before classe start. no excuses

Mr. Crawford is a great professor and I had no problems with him. He's really sweet but attendance is mandatory because he will drop you for missing too many classes. The tests are pretty much matching quotes to the stories and filling in the authors with a little short answer. I would definitely recommend taking him.

I love this man! His classes are very boring but he keeps you interested by telling corny jokes. He enjoys students who participate, so raise your hand! His test are just a bunch of quotes that you have to match to the story but if you attend class, go to review day, and study...you should have no problem. I would take him again in a heartbeat!

Mr. Crawford is definitely one of the best English teachers I have ever had; he knows what he is teaching and how to teach it. Overall, I highly respect and recommend him as long as you intend to show up to class.

Jokes with you a lot to get to know you. very hard on the rough draft that he doesn't actually keep the grade for. Lets you turn final drafts late but gets upset with you. (no points deducted) memorize the order of letters on the study guide for quiz. he uses the order on actual quizzes. takes worst quiz out at end of sem. Don't miss class to much.

Paul Crawford was one of the men to restore my love for literature. If you take his class seriously, you will love it. If you're just there because you have to, you will probably hate him. He wants his students to succeed so badly and he is such an amazing person. Very in-depth teacher. Knows the material because he LOVES his job.
