He is a very supportive teacher. While I did not care for the Howard Zinn readings at all, he is very encouraging and is very helpful and encouraging to students. Its good to have teacher like him, because not all teachers are as nice as he is. He focuses on supporting your arguement in writing, which is a useful skill.

Croone was helpful and explained things very clearly. He helped me earn a good grade in the class.
This guy is the man. He gives awesome, clear assignments with clear goals. He knows when you don't know what you're talking about. He keeps things organized. He also is engaging in front of a class and is able to relate to students effortlessly. He is so highly reccomended.
I love Croon. He is such a character. He loves to play devil's advocate, to encourage debate about controversial subjects, and to get us to consider things in new ways. I loved his class, and he is hilarious.
Croon is very animated and engaging. I wish I would have taken his 102 class
Croon is tight. I've taken eng102 twice before this one and it's my worst nightmare. Croon made class very entertaining and relates well with the students. He's very understanding and his laidback personality made writing a research paper a lot less stressful. And no anotated bibilography! woot!
Croon is the man! He helped me pass 102 with a breeze and encouraged me to write my best...which i did! He pushes you to suceed, and is always available to help you out! Croon...I LOVE YOU!!
Croon ROCKS!!!
So if there is a hidden meaning in a smiley face sticker that says "good job" this guy will find it. He is so obsessed with his vast knowledge of racism in america that im not sure im even in english anymore. we over analyze to the point that i can barely fathom spending another minute listening to one of his ridiculious lectures.
I can't believe this guy's high score. His lecture style is unclear, one minuet he'll be saying that he wan't to see X in your paper then the next day he'll say he has only wanted to see Y in your paper. Not to mention there were several times I questioned whether I was in a sociology class or an english one.
Great guy with an open heart. Very helpful and patient in his teaching. Very in dept!
very funny. made class comfortable, but you had to do the work! he had a high bs meter so just be honest--he will understand.
hot headed and will go off on you if you are not carefull. will not answer questions in lab. Not a good writing instructor. Run from this one.
i learned so much from Croon; he really helped me develop what he called "critical consciousness"--something more than just critical thinking. he believed we should have values in place so we will have something to say. sure, he was hard, but he really did care that the students develop effective skills. i know some of my classmates took short-cut.
I was very disappointed by Croon's teaching "style" which including lots of videos and not a lot of direction or focus in his lectures. I wanted a good English class and I did not find his to be helpful or worth my money. I like him as a person, I just don't think he is a good teacher.

Excellent Teacher, he really open my eyes to education and life. I have open a nonprofit and am attending Evergreen State College In Tacoma and working on my BA. He increase my knowledge on how important it is to write clearly. Because, it will define who you are in the social human services world.
Great teacher with great advice on getting you in the right direction.
At first I was a bit hesitant about continuing the class when I read the syllabus because the amount of work required seemed staggering but at the end, I couldn't believe how easy it was to do and complete the assignments. Prof. croon made me a better writer who could clearly articulate their point of view and argue for it correctly.
A great teacher! Teached me on my very first english class ever (as I'm not from the US), and geve me lots of new mind-opening perspectives.
Paul Croon is one of the best, most educated, and experienced professors that I have ever had. He honestly cares not only about you passing the class, but about you learning the material. Paul Croon is someone who actually cares about you as a person and walks the walk; that is what is what makes him so special.
Great teacher, even better person.

Paul Croon is an engaging and passionate teacher. He is very helpful and encouraging to his students.
opinionated, would not let students express their interpretations of the novel, cannot take constructive criticism, attacks questions
He probably is a good friend, good person; but he really is not a good teacher. For example, one day he played music while we were taking test in the class, one of students asked him if he could turn it off, he just said No and asked him to go outside to take his test!! Very disappointed!!
Very friendly, cool and charismatic as a person, but somewhat confusing as an instructor. Although he provides a very detailed syllabus, specific assignment objectives were sometimes stressfully vague. Grading is very harsh, and feedback does little to clarify what he is looking for. A very FUN class, but not one you should expect an A in.
I found the instructor's teaching style helpful and beneficial for me. His literature class helped me develop critical thinking and analysis skills. The professor teachers a class on a college level and expects the same from his students (appropriate preparation for a class). Make no mistake: it is not a babysitting class.
Paul's class is fun and easygoing. There's a lot of class discussions and watching videos. He teaches you to see what the real issues are, and to vocalize them yourself. Paul was always willing to answer my questions after class. He allows you to be responsible for doing the homework. What you put into this class is what you get out of it.
Being a male in 40s and deciding to go back to school After taking Mr Croons class I decided their were many things about the english laungage I did not know. Mr Croon is out going and always willing to be what teacher should be. A supportive soul to giude you along. After his class I still see him As a great sorce of guidance.
I found the videos we watched interesting enough, but Croon is absolutely worthless as a teacher he wants your final paper in a very specific 5 point pattern, which is also worthless, say goodbye to any creativity while taking his class.
I had Mr. Croon for this past quarter, and it was as enjoyable as it was eye-opening: very. Challenging at times, most certainly, but we all grew as writers and students as a result. Plus he was always around and open if any students ever needed help or clarification on anything. :)
I really enjoyed taking Professor Croons English 102 class. Even though I enjoy reading I have never considered English to be one of my favorite subjects. Paul made the subject fun and easy to learn. I would recomend Professor Croon to anyone interested in taking an English class.
Fall 2007 African American Literature. Great "friend" teacher. Taught us life lessons as well as cirriculum. Came out of his class a better person. Paul Croon is a human being, and treats his students with respect.
Well, he might be a good person but worthless as a teacher. He's just way too demanding and he doesn't even teach much in class. His directions were unclear and oftentimes I had no idea what he wanted us to get out of those works. And he doesn't seem to have much respect for his students. Worst class I've ever taken.
Professor Croon is a good teacher. He always reviewed before a quiz--he told us what the quiz would cover. he really was interested in us getting the material--sometimes it was repetitive but i quess he did that for the students who were sick or missed a class.he brought in very relevant real world examples to demonstrate his points.
Awesome guy. The class was a lot of fun but some people didn't like the lack of structure and how much class time we wasted watching videos and having discussions. He's really passionate about english and public issues. Easy class.
If you read these reviews, you'll find that you'll either love him, or hate him-which at the very least reflects his ability to inspire his students to take a stand, and express an opoinion. If you are motivated to work, open to think, and willing to participate, Croon's class can be rewarding, without too much pain.
If you are a native speaker of English, take this class to complete pre-reqs. If English is your second language, DO NOT take this class. He does not have the ability to provide alternative explanations of the requirements of written assignments for ESL students. In a nutshell, he tried to hard to be profound and did not walk away from the class fe
kinda funny--I liked this guy. at first, I thought he would be just another droner--but wow, he made us think and examine our values! wuddayaknow! gave us heads-up on quizzes and tests--he paid attention to our struggle with the paper and gave us extensions. and he reviewed our outlines, rough drafts, and had plenty of office-hours.goodguy, finally
Paul is a really nice guy but we had no idea what was going on. He taught us nothing about writing a research paper. Instead he gave us poorly guided on line lessons and used class time to watch movies. When he did teach us stuff in class, it was mostly about forming arguments and I basically had no idea exactly what he expected till the last day.
good teacher. before the start of class he sent us a ten page syllabus! then, throughout the quarter he sent us notices, MLA examples and such. He always gave us notice for quizzes (and he lets us use our journals to take quizzes), he edited our rough drafts,he was understanding of personal issues. he has a lot of experience but his work was fresh
paul croon as a person would be a wonderful friend but as a teacher he is useless. and he is vague. does not have much respect for his students and it hot headed, does not care about what his students think about novels read, bascially his way or the highway.Croon has a ugly attendance policy 10 point deduction for evey day missed!
I am a running start student in the lit class. he treated us fairly,he was funny, he let me take a quiz later ( I was sick), and he gave extra credit for every test and quiz.he gave us extra credit if we went to Junot Diaz lecture. some of my friends did not like his style, but i know some did not read enogh.
I got a great grade! Although my point score shuld have given me a 2.8 I got a 3.2 instead! His comments on my final paper said I really improved and I made good points.I learned so much. fair guy. funny too!
No matter how well you write your papers or back up your argument, if its not what he thinks is THE SINGLE RIGHT answer then you will not get a good grade. He refuses to see anyone else's views. He is not helpful and will often belittle students for their questions. He also is rarely prepared; I don't know if he read all of the books before we did.
well, you either love him or hate him, i quess. I started out with low scores but once I saw where he wanted us to go then I improved. he let us rewrite two to three questions for each takehome test--he gave us a week for each one. unlike the last reviewer, i disagree, he let us come up with different points. look out! he takes attendance every day
If you're looking to waste time and money, take a class from this teacher. He teaches the same curriculum to 101 and 102. Short temper, only cares about his "5-point pattern." We watched more movies in that class than I do in my own free time. Never used the book once. Grades on attendance which is ridiculous since he never teaches anything.
one of the best instructors of composition. he clearly lays out a good writing pattern and it really does help you maximize your time as you research. sure, he introduces controversy, but after-all, how else will we get that critical thinking all the syllabi tout. yes, he is demanding but for our benefit, not his. very helpful during office hours
this is one of the best teachers ever. he's laid back and really cool. awesome teacher i highly recommend his class.
very good teacher. I learned so much. reading was heavy but he always discussed the main points. he gave us enough time to write the two papers. we did a nice online review of grammar and research. he let us revise oour first paper. and he gave us some extra credit! very nice to us in class and in office hours. he gave us some fridays off--meetings
Professor Croon's class is not the best. He really dosen't sound like he has any intellectual knowledge, and makes the class a drag. Videos, and 1 big paper. Like this paper is your GRADE. Dropped the class. I'm sorry, but I don't recommend him.
took a while to understand his system; but actually, his five-point pattern is very useful and effective. I used this very same pattern for my Communications class to give a presentation and I received an A for it! the teacher said my presentation was one the best (and I never before was good at presentations). I like his sense of humor also.
Croon is a very nice and fun teacher, but has a weird temper problem. Out of nowhere he will yell and belittle students. I guess I can understand if someone asks the same question so many times its irritating but the attitude NEEDS to go. Some students felt the need to drop his class. I recommend him if you like taking orders.
Extremely rude and consistantly yelled at students for asking questions. He also grades on attendance which I don't like. His class isnt worth going to everyday. I presonally would never take him again and i would never recommend him.
we spent all this time making pyramids about movies but he didn't want us to write pyramid papers... ugh. if i wanted to watch tv i would have stayed home. paul is a pseudo-intellectual and a terrible teacher. do not take this class. you will just end up dropping it or hating your life. you pay $500 for a giant waste of time.
Very knowledgeable about his topic, had fun and learned a bit in his class. He does teach a pretty useful tool, learn what you can from it and use it for the class and drop it if you find better to work with.
Croon is a dynamic teacher who takes a different and highly useful approach. His choice of reading materials exposes students to new concepts and ideas. I learned about cultures, racism, racial privilege, world issues. This class improved my analytical, summarizing/response, & pattern/theme recognition skills. Great speaker/discussions & office hrs
Dr. Croon is a great teacher, if you're willing to put in work. He is not the easiest teacher, but he will work with you. Attendance is mandatory, if you want to get all the information needed, plus you get extra credit for it. Has tendency to go into tangents while lecturing, however, is entertaining while very useful. Highly recommended!!!
The syllabus is clear, but not always reiterated. The 5 point pattern can be frustrating but once you give into it, its easier then other types of papers. Attendance is weighted heavily. The papers have to be on specific controversial topics that most people know a about, so the paper is more about the mechanics and proper citing then research.
I HIGHLY recommend Paul Croon. He's one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is always available during his office hours and he really encourages the students to go see him if they have any issues whatsoever. If for some reason you can't make it to class just send an e-mail and he'll reply to you right away! He truly cares about the students!
overall, i enjoyed being in mr croon's 101 class. the first paper we had to do was tough, but by the second one i was golden. teacher has easy access during office hours, and is great with keeping in touch through email. my 2 gripes would be the occasional vagueness of his instruction, and occasional short temper when asking something already asked
I enjoyed the class , learned a lot. I happened to take english 102 before 101 . but I beleive am a better @ writing now. I highly reccommed him highly.
Croon is a great professor, this is my second class with him- in English 102 he uses everything we learned in 101 and adds to it. He's very understanding but doesn't take crap. He treats you like an adult, so if you're looking for someone who doesn't take attendance and accepts assignments late you should probably rethink being in college!
Croon is a great English teacher that is just jam packed full of info. hes always glad to help his students, in class or during his office hours. he can be hard on us sometimes but Ive learned that those are the teachers you learn the most from. his teaching style is some what different then most but it seems to work very well. i would recommend hi
Croon is an amazing professor. I love coming to class everyday and enjoying his lighthearted and inspiring lectures. His profound insight into the american literature we read is extremely helpful. Way to go P.C.!
Croon class was alot of fun, he made the topics each day new and refreshing. I would take his class again if i needed it for my intrest. He related to us students well and i give him an A for his knowledge.
I took his English Composition1 class. His class was always funny and dynamic. I like Paul, and he is such a great teacher I have ever met. His class helped me a lot when I took ENGL 102. The format he taught was great, and the way to think he taught was also very good to write essay. I recommend you guys to take his class if you want to learn sth
I really enjoyed Mr. Croon's English 101 class. I felt like I took a lot home from it. He made the class fun with jokes but took our learning very seriously. I would take another class of his if it pertained to my major. He definately had a different outlook on life that I found interesting.
Croon brings great discussions to the classroom and he inspires critical thinking. His insight and knowledge across a wide range of topics always brings students to have a deeper understanding of the subject matters at hand. I would definitely retake a class from Croon.
Mr Croon expects you to learn the "5 point pattern" method of writing research papers. The sooner you catch on to the method the simpler your experience will be in his class. The material might be new but he is aways straight forward. If you go to class every day and do your work you'll get an good grade.
He always tells jokes during class, watch movies everyday, we dont really learn stuff in class. Instead, all you need to do is complete the online works and do your papers. He never uses txt book!! If your paper doesnt follow his idea, you will get a bad grade, so, i would like to say, write your paper with his ideas, not yours!!!!
If you want a relax class, go to his. You still can walk out of the class with a 4.0, IF you write your paper according to his way. In the class, you relax, listen and try to comprehend. He will make jokes and review his "way" almost daily. Not much work, besides the online assignments, are needed to be done.
He provided a great learning environment. Very easy going, but strong enough to keep your attention. I definitely plan on taking his 102 course. His class was the highlight of my otherwise boring summer quarter. Thanks Croon!
DIDNT LEARNED ANYTHING BUT HOW TO WASTE TIME. dont takt his class if you want to learn something for your future class. He wont give you any help on your papers. He told every class that he has been teaching in different schools, however, after you took his class, i think you can find why.
Paul is pretty much a no nonsense guy. He makes it absolutely clear what he wants and expects from his students. If you are willing to work hard in his class, you will do well.
Croon is a cool, funny & likable guy. His goal is teaching you a format for writing a paper that he created and is trying to get published. He doesn't care if you are a decent writer, just follow his format and you will pass. Expect awkward pointless group time while he disappears for most of the class and him repeating himself a ton.
He grades critical. No one ever gets a perfect grade even if you do exactly what he instructed. Strict on assingments due dates. If you don't notice it in class, just speak with other students about him & you'll know there's favoritism. Attendance is mandatory but he doesn't teach much. No textbook but must buy ebook online. You do everything online
He would focus on very specific questions on his tests that had little to do with the over all themes or concepts, things that were mentioned once maybe twice. When I would ask him questions he would blow me off and tell me to figure it out and on a test I had the answer that he gave in class with slightly different wording and he counted it wrong.
I took reading and writing autobiographies, and I really enjoyed it. Paul was incredibly personable and made the class fun! He told you exactly what was going to be on the tests. I came away with a 4.0 even though I didn't do very well on everything. Definitely recommended!
Loved all the books that were assigned for the course. You can tell he loves literature, which made the class enjoyable. Do the readings, take notes, attend class, participate in the discussions and you'll be fine. I definitely learn a lot and my all time favorite book is now Beloved. Classic!
Paul croon Wow what can i say about his class. Must not take! Ex military guy. Grades horrible even if you do what he wants you to do based on the class criteria. Most of the class is online. Two essays 250 which is half the grade basically if you don't do the essays the way he wants then you fail the class
He is a pretty interesting teacher. Do good on your assignments and try your best don't hand in them late. Also go to class on time. If you followed these things, you would get the grade that you want.
I took Paul 2 years ago for 102 and I didn't care at all for his style of teaching, I would honestly never take a class with him again. He goes off on wild tangents and you can barely get a word in edgewise and totally goes down a bunny trail that distracts from the topic. Don't take him you will save money and your GPA.
Teachers like Paul, unfortunately, are few and far between in the hectic climate of community college. The excitement and energy he brought to class and to the literature assigned not only engaged me, but motivated me to push myself. Never a dull moment in Croon's class. He has a great sense of humor, and doesn't regard himself too seriously.
Croon is an outstanding English teacher. He incorporates a great sense of humor into his teaching style, making it easier to learn the material. If you follow his writing format the way he wants it to be and complete all your online assignments, you'll be sure to pass the class. I highly recommend taking him.
He wants you to follow his style and his way, if you can do that then you'll be fine (of course you have to complete every single assignment); however, if you can't keep up what he expects you to do (like make improvement overnight), then you'll get a poor grade.
Croon isn't really that nice of a person. When you talk to him, you're gonna feel like you're getting yelled at. Very harsh grader and you watch videos everyday in class. The essays are okay, not too difficult. It was an OKAY class. STRICT structure with essays and everything
Croon is an AMAZING teacher! He's one of my favorites so far. If you pay attention and do the work assigned you'll do fine. He's interesting, energetic, and to the point. He teaches a style to benefit future college writing skills in a clear and efficient manner. Highly recommend his class!
He is strict but he is open to your opinions. I found him to be a good teacher, but don't be late for class.
Croon is a lively and animated man. His lectures very intriguing and inspirational. Incorporates many sociological ideas into English. Listen closely in class because he doesn't repeat himself. He's got an odd sense of humor and uses abrasive language that may upset some. But laid back creative students can bond with him. Croon is the real deal!
Great class! Professor Croon has a unique way of sending the message. You will not get his style right away but in the end you will realize how much you have learned. If you show up in time, don't miss a class, do homework and follow his method you will do great in his class. Unique sense of humor and great office advises.
Croon is a unique English teacher to say the least. His attempts at humor are distracting, and he docks a lot of points for small errors. If you care about your GPA, find another class.
I took him for American Lit. The books were good but he made them so confusing. He was all over the place when he tried to explain anything. When I came in for help to explain the texts in book he, he told me to figure out myself. The quizzes were the worst. More than half the class (total of 10) got C or below. Thanks to ridiculous EC I got an A-.
Croon is super funny, but that's pretty much the best thing about him. He doesn't give feedback on your papers; he just slaps a grade on them and doesn't say why you got the grade you got. He pretty much wants everything done his way or else you'll get a low score. He doesn't really answer your questions and puts you on the spot when you do ask a Q
he is a good teacher, I worked well in professor Croon's class and the note book he asked us to do is very useful, we can use it to study our quiz and to brainstorm. participation really matters, if you get perfect participation, you may get extra credits. I think his class is a little bit hard for me at that time since it is my first quarter.
Sir Croon is a helpful and approachable teacher. He will tell what are the things you need to do for your papers. He has a good sense of humor in teaching. You just need to figure out what he needs to see on your papers and definitely, you will get a high grade. Go to class regularly and participate. I enjoyed Engl 101 so I took 102 under him too.
Paul Croons English 102 helped me gain the research and documentation skills I needed to write quality papers at the college and university level. Theses are English skills that has to be learned by the individual if they want to excel at higher levels of education.
Paul is an English instructor, whose primary objective is to help the student understand course material and effectiveness in the use of skills learned. He does not babysit nor pamper the student. He expects the student to learn and execute. His personality and character are unique, if you're sensitive, you might take another instructor.
You have to have thick skin for this class. Croon will not hold your hand. He doesn't give feedback on your work unless you ask for it. Do what he asks and show that you are committed to doing well in his class and you will be fine. I found his structures for the essays to be very beneficial. His teaching has made me develop strong respect for him.
What I have learned in Mr Croons class will definitely benefit me for the rest of my academic life. His lecture is really clear, organized and interesting! You dont have too much writing in this class. His purpose is to give you ideas about how to write academic papers. Once you understand these skills, you will find writing paper is much easier!
I took my 102 class with Paul learned many beneficial things for writing. Even though English is not my first language, he made sure that I understand fundamental professional writing skills. After taking his class i feel so confident to write a research paper with both MLA and Chigaco style citation and choose sources that would fit the most!
Croon was a great teacher! He is funny and his lectures were very informative. He is tough and will challenge you, but if you work hard you will leave his class having learned a lot and your writing will significantly improve. I would very much recommend him to anyone willing to put forth the effort!
It's really nice to have a professor with an effective, straight-forward teaching style. Mr. Croon didn't just increased my writing skills, he also increased my confidence. Highly recommended.
Paul Croon is very straightforward professor and won't cuddle you! If you study hard and take good notes you will have 4.0 by the end of the quarter. He knows a lot about the writing assessment test (UW), so if you're a transfer student I highly recommend his class.
It took me a few weeks to adjust to his teaching format, but once I did, the class was amazing! Croon ignited a passion within me to deal with real world issues & see all sides of an argument fairly. He also teaches a unique writing pattern that is useful for Uni! He is fair, inspiring, & expects his students to grow and think critically.
Very funny prof, but he is a terrible teacher. If English 102 is a requirement, I would highly recommend someone else.
If you are serious about improving your writing, then take Mr. Croon's class. He is a great teacher. His assignments were engaging and helpful. My critical thinking and confidence in my writing improved tremendously. You have to do the work though; this is not a class where you can skip assignments and expect to get a 4.0.
I originally signed up for his Eng101 class as a hybrid; On the very first day he made it clear it was not. He takes points away if you don't show up, but you learn nothing going to his class; his lectures are repetitive, and some days you literally just watch videos or just have group "discussions." Also a harsh grader that doesn't give feedback.
Tough grader who does not give clear feedback. Class time is spent on videos and repetitive lectures. You will have to fight very hard in this class if you care about your GPA.
Croon is very fast pace but effective (and funny). You must show up to class and complete work on time; if you do that, you can expect a good grade. He does not respond to questions well. Sometimes when you ask clarification questions he takes it as you aren't listening. Aside from that, he is a decent teacher if you're a decent student. :-)
Professor Croon will not coddle you. He does not brook an absent mind or cut slack for 'eh, good enough.' Professor Croon is clear as to the standards of his class, if you show up every day, take good notes, engage with your class mates and put real effort into understanding the class material and course goals, you will succeed. Also, very funny!
Prof Croon is a good teacher. With regular attendance, good note taking & staying on top of your assignments you should be able to get a good grade no problem. He generally gives good feedback and gives plenty of opportunity to meet with him if you need clarification. As far as the assignments go, just don't over think them and follow instructions
Mr. Croon is one of the best teachers at Seattle Central College, I took both Eng 101 and 102 with him. As an international student, it was quite challenge at first but afterwards, I found my writing skills have improved in a great deal. I truly recommend people who'd like to learn more about efficient writing strategies to take his class :)
Mr. Croon is one of the best teachers that I've known in SCC. I took ENG102 and his lectures are interesting so it's easy to understand (I'm an international student). Just make sure that you follow his style of writing and you'll get good scores (I got 4.0). He said that he didn't give extra credit but he randomly did so come to class everyday.
Really funny, but puts you in the spit for asking questions.
MR. Croon is one of those teachers who will treat you like an idiot if you ask a question, no matter what. He'll cut you off mid sentence and not even answer the question. The class is full of videos as well as not very useful, repetitive lectures. I don't think I've learned anything from him and there's only 3 weeks left of the quarter.
He is extremely hot headed. His way or the highway or else he'll belittle you for it. Don't bother asking questions because he'll just belittle you for that in front of the class and wont answer the question. He'll tell you to "google it" yourself and laugh in your face. He doesn't teach anything (just shows movies during class).
Professor Croon is HARD. Let's get that out of the way. He is very tough. Second toughest English Professor at SCC, but if you are willing to work it, you'll be rewarded. He knows his stuff. He doesn't hand hold and this is no easy 4.0 class, but you'll learn critical thinking skills and the pattern to write prestigious papers. Definitely worth it!
Don't take his class unless you can learn all the stuffs by yourself. Don't ask him any questions because he is not teaching you here, he is checking your knowledge learned from 101. And also, if your first language is not English, pick other class is the best way to improve your grade.
This teacher was terrible. No creativity or thought allowed. You must write your paper to express his views, in a very specific structure that he made up and there is no outside source to reference. He grades very strictly, but the parameters are never fully explained. Also, he routinely mocks & disrespects students who ask questions.
Worst class I have ever taken. He has strict guidelines but won't elaborate on them. He has a specific way of writing that HE created with no textbook source, or outside source. I'm a student who usually works hard and tries to see past flaws, but I had to drop out mid class! He also won't answer any of your questions, but mock you instead
Paul Croon... what to say. For starters, he has a temper and will direct at you if he thinks its necessary. Uses a lot of profanity in class and is inappropriate at times. He treats students as if we were his friends. Ask a question, hell shut you down. Dont bother using skill sets developed in other English classes, quite obscure. Overall OKish
He is an awesome instructor just take your time and his serious do your work pay attention. You will be fine
Give ridiculously low grade on the paper. Usually around 20 out of 50 for first draft, and 220 out of 300 for the final. Extremely hard to get grade from this teacher. Even though you have a chance to earn extra credit, he will only give you 5 out of possible 25 points for the extra credits. I just hope anyone that read my comments skip this class
Even though I am doing a great job and earning the grade I desire, I have to say I would not come to class as much as possible. Simply he disrespects students and have no access to outside of class. Lectures are repeatedly and useless, you have to write to express HIS view in your paper. No creativity allowed. Makes fun of you when you ask question
In this class now, my grade is ok, he does not do a good job at working with the creativity of students, everything is mapped out to "make it easier" but if you dont follow that map you will hear about it. his 5 point position paper model is good but not for everyone and he requires you to use it.
I was scared of this class after looking at these reviews... Don't expect creative writing in this class. I like professor croon because he is straightforward with his assignments, even in an online setting. You definitely have to work for your grade but this class is very manageable
I do understand COVID has thrown everyone for a loop and we are doing things we normally we wouldnt do. During my class with he taught nothing but heavily red lined every one of my papers. Questions asked were always answered with questions such as Do you remember module 1? It was mentioned there. Horrible teacher
Do not attend this class like how I did because he will not help you with your essay's and he will redline your first draft and put in the grade book, which I do not understand why because all first draft are all not perfect. Also do not expect a good grade if you are unfamiliar with the paper pattern method which he expects his students to know.
He is hilarious. Professor Croon is a very tough grader, so don't take his class if you want an easy class; he makes you work hard for it and read lots of instructions which are spread all over his Canvas class shell.
If I could give 0 stars for his class, I would. This teacher has to be the worst teacher I have ever taken. This teacher expects us to automatically adapt to his weird way of writing. NO ROOM FOR CREATIVITY! He is the type to give you a low grade on a ROUGH DRAFT. HE IS 0 HELP. I honestly would not wish this class on my worst enemy.
He has a very specific style he's looking for, but I don't think he's a super tough grader (I'm a terrible reader/writer and finished with a 4.0) I emailed a question about a low grade on an assignment, and he emailed back quickly with details about what to improve. Make sure you read the grading rubrics and check off all the boxes! Plenty of EC!
He doesn't have a rubric which gave me hard times figuring out the criteria of an A assignment. All I have is paragraphs of instruction. He also counts "extra credit" assignments as 5% of our grades, which confused me. Another issue with his online class is that he doesn't give out feedback often.
such a bad teacher, not great at communicating
Worse writing class Ive ever took. If you dont want to develop a mental disorder then dont take this class. The teacher is ruthless and dont care about YOU whatsoever. He dont care what you have to say and doesnt even help when ask for it. take this class if you want to experience what hell feels like!!!!!
Instructions were confusing but he shamed you in grading and during class if you didn't follow the directions perfectly in assignments or essays. Didn't allow creativity while writing, didn't even let you choose your position on the topic he assigned. Spends most of class time rambling about nothing. Don't take this class if you can help it.
This professor doesn’t allow creative writing and won’t let students choose what to write about. He grades very hard as well!! If you don’t follow his rubric down to a T, he won’t give you points. I wouldn’t suggest taking this class if you prefer having peace of mind.
Not sure if English was actually his first language. I just found that I had an extremely hard time understanding the assignments because his punctuation doesn't make sense. Also, extremely unhelpful if you find that you have to email with a question. He told me to ask someone else basically, but wasn't able to help direct me to whom I might ask.
Prof Croon appears too strict and uncaring superficially but he is really a very nice instructor. He is of course approachable if you initiate communication with him. Students determined to work hard can benefit from his teaching. I really liked him lastly.
He was interesting, his way of teaching was very different from others I had before. Even though he is a tough grader, I would say that if the instructions are read properly; you will do the assignment fairly well. On top of that, he answers questions through inbox or during office hours! Though I wont take his class again it was not the worst one.
really helpful and taught alot and showed us write way, really funny, and also gives us extra credit!
If you try there is no way to get below a 90%. Classes are lecture style with the occasional video or 2, pretty chill likes to tell jokes. Gave insightful tips on grammar, and helped me improve my writing as a whole.
Pretty unusual teaching style. I'm sure some would like it but I found it very difficult to work with, he's always making inappropriate jokes in class and teasing people for asking questions that he thinks should be obvious. Essay guidelines were very strict and sometimes hard to understand. He grades tough on drafts but less tough on final essays.
he is the worst
Avoid this professor at all costs.
Unique teaching style, but with patience, the class is manageable. Readings and rubrics are key. Unstuck ai proved a helpful study tool alongside the course material. Overall a solid ENG101 option.
Terrible!! he is very difficult with international students. do not sympathize with their difficulties.
Dont take his class if you are international student. I think he dont like them. He give them low score and dont like to help when they found difficult
Do not take this class if you aren't prepared to listen to everything he has to say(not really a bad thing). He has his own essay style and is specific with how he wants things written. We had 2 essays in the quarter, e tells you exactly what you need to change on drafts and if you listen you will do good. Overall a good class, just don't slack off
Instead of offering constructive feedback, he often just criticizes in a way that belitties students. Instead of fostering a space where students feel encouraged to learn from their mistakes, he seems more interested in making students feel small. It's disheartening, and honestly, it has taken away the motivation to even engage in the course
The grading is in a specific criteria so you have to do exactly what the professor wants. Professor is funny, and if your learning style is somewhat serious, then dont take this class. He jokes a lot and was rlly fun.
HE IS SO MEAN TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND DOESNT KNOW HOW TO ASSIGN WORK CORRECTLY. DURING THE LAST WEEK OF CLASS HE WILL RANDOMLY STOP GIVE YOU GOOD GRADES.
Imma keep it a buck with this review. This professors class is hard until you get the hang of it. The second essay topic was kinda irrelevant and the feedback he gave was just confusing. Honestly, If you have the chance to transfer TAKE IT. There was more knit-picking of my work than actual helpful feedback.
