Young, fresh, he's so funny. The lectures fly by...and he "doesn't believe in finals."
great, funny, interesting, no final ; only 2 MC midterms

yOU rOCK MAN
great prof! you should definately take him! the class will be 10 times more interesting and the time will fly by
EASY CLASS!!!!!!!
great prof! explain everything really clearly and provides tons of examples to help you understand the concepts. exams are fair, only m/c. definitely get me interested in social psyc. highly recommended!!
Smart, current topics based on research from the big names in modern social psychology; Davies is a well known name in the field of stereotype activation. It was a pleasure to be in his class and I would reccomend him to all that are considering.
Social psych was my favorite class ever because of Davies! You need to go to lectures to do well, but it was always interesting and clear. Really knows his subject. Only 2 tests of 50 MC each (both worth 50% of your grade), which made it not a lot of work. I definately recommend taking any class you can with him.
davies is amazing. he is funny and always kept the class's interest. i loved going to his classes, and the only negative was that the midterm and final were worth 50% each, another midterm would have been nice, but he said he might change it for the future. also, the final wasn't cumulative, so you only had to learn the material after the midterm
Unnnnnbelievable! Davies is fun, intelligent, witty, and makes already great material even better. Stop reading this and get into his class right now.
Dr. Davies is an AWESOME prof. Honestly- one of the best profs I've had. He's current, dynamic, and entertaining in his lectures. I'd highly recommend him especially if you are not sure whether you are interested in psych- this course will show you how interesting it can be. I never had issues with paying attention in his class.
best proff i have EVER had, highly recommend this class and any class that he teaches!
Absolutely the best prof (and class) at UBCO. Dr. Davies is current, integrates TONS of interesting research, tells entertaining stories, and truly cares about the input of his class. 4 midterms worth 25% each, all m/c, his class was the favorite part of my week (and I'm a bio major!). Highly recommended to ANYONE as an elective, you will love it!
Great prof. Organized, uses fantastic examples. Buy the textbook to study for tests, as he uses specific examples from it that weren't covered in class. You could easily get away without attending class, but you will find yourself wanting to go to his class anyways.
BEST PROF EVER!!!
Amazing! What ever he's teaching take it, it'll be the best course you ever had.
Amazing!!!
This guy is my hero! I love him! Take anything he is teaching. He's super smart and super funny.
I heard Davies was a professor at Stanford and UCLA before he came here, so I expected him to be some snobby academic, but he's not at all. Sure he's super smart, but he's also super nice and funny as hell. Best prof I've had by a mile. Don't know why he's at UBC O, but take his courses while they last
YOUNG, COOL, HANDSOME, FUNNY, AND A WICKED TEACHER, WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT???
i LOVE this guy!
Favourite Prof of the year and possibly more! Extremely handsome, charming, funny, and informative in the most interesting way. Loved him!!!
ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENOL!!!! Best prof by far that I have ever had. You will find yourself excited to go to class everyday. He makes you laugh and enjoy every bit of learning the material. I would take him again and again!!
He's an absolutely wonderful prof. One of the best I've ever had. Funny, smart, Paul Davies could make the dullest of subjects interesting. Take any class of his and it will be a treat!
THE best psyc prof! amazing lectures
Great professor, extremely helpful and understanding, the best UBC-O has to offer by far.
Best prof I've had. Really funny guy and always lively. Kept me engaged which is hard to do because I get bored easily. I'm taking another psych course im not even interested in just to have him as a prof again, he's that great.
FUNNY, SMART SMART, GREAT PROF. GET HIM IF YOU CAN!
Paul is the best prof ever, he has such interesting lectures, an engaging teaching style and makes class fun and enjoyable. It's one of the only classes I have that I always look forward to going to. If you ever get the chance to take a class with Paul, do it, you will have a blast.
By far the best prof I have ever had. I'm not a psych major, and would take any class he offered! He is a very engaging prof, and makes the information so interesting! If you have a class with him, you will actually want to attend class! Highly recommended!
Brilliant prof. Take any class that he offers!
Great prof, his class is a lot of fun. As long as you attend his lectures, and only skim the text, youll get a great mark. This guy makes the easiest tests ever!
Davies is an amazing prof!! Emphasis on the amazing! He's hilarious, often pacing from excessive use of caffine and gets the point across, easy to understand, recommend to take any class he offers, would be VERY worth it. AWSOME PROF
Easily the greatest professor to walk through the doors of UBCO.
Davies is the bomb diggity! Lectures are interesting and funny and tests are broken down into a few multiple choice throughout the semester. Highly recommended !
Paul Davies is the BEST prof ever! His lectures are always entertaining and he makes the course fun. By far, the best prof at ubco
The best prof you can have, makes lecture interesting and you actually enjoy his class.
Amazing prof, so interesting and makes you want to come to class. His slides are super helpful but you need to go to class. Uses a lot of interesting examples. Tests are ridiculously fair. He is full of caffeinated energy all the time. It's awesome.
Now, don't get me wrong, here's a teacher that is passionate about what he does.. I took his course under strong recommendation. I can actually say I'm probably the only one that's going to say that I thought his course was awful. I didn't like the format of his class- it seemed more like an open format discussion than a lecture.
Paul is an awesome prof. Interesting lectures, not a heavy workload. If you don't like situational-type multiple choice questions though, beware that they make up a large proportion of his tests. I didn't think they were that hard but some people complained about them.
Amazing Prof! Take any class you can with him!
Paul is an excellent professor, he is engaging, funny and he knows his stuff. The only thing I didn't like so much were his tests, which required a lot of application of knowledge, not just memorizing.
Paul was a fantastic professor! His tests were not super easy, but the lectures were very interesting.I didn't like how he always encouraged students to ask questions since I felt like it wasted class time and some of the questions could have easily been answered by doing the assigned readings before coming to class. It helps to read before class
AWESOME PROF! makes material exciting and relivent! very helpful!
I also took 112 With him and he is the best prof I have ever had. I will definitely take as many courses with him as possible!
Awesome Prof! Makes classes fun, and fly by! I had issues with his exams because they were all multiple choice...but there are not any papers or anything...just 3 term tests and a final! Reading the book is a good idea just to get more detail about info because he asks some pretty complex questions on his tests!
He is awesome! Class is fun and interesting. Even if you are not planning in pursuing psychology it is still an incredible class with an amazing passionate prof. 5 stars!!
Best prof on campus. Very entertaining class. Tests are pretty easy. Very good overall!
Such a great prof. He has definitely made me more interested in psych and makes every lecture worth while to attend.
Great lecturer, class is very entertaining and informative. One of the best professors in terms of lecture quality. Exams are not bad, strictly multiple choice.
If you need or want to take a psych class, build you schedule around one instructed by Paul. Great Prof, very good lecturer, funny and keeps the content interesting
Awesome prof. Gives engaging lectures, and keeps things interesting. You can tell he really digs this stuff when he talks about it. Encourages asking questions during exams, which is the way it should be.
Fantastic class; challenging course evaluation but altogether eye-opening material that is enthusiastically conveyed by Paul!
This course was quite interesting. Paul made lectures intriguing but I felt that he allowed students to ask too many questions which wasted too much time. His tests, all MC, are very situational which tended to be difficult because they may seem to have two possible answers. He tests on material that was gone over in lectures as well as textbook .
awesome guy, easily one of the best teachers I've ever had.
I would not miss one of his lectures for the world. He's zany, easy to understand, and is perfect at his job. Tests are moderate, but if you study they're easy.
This prof will blow your mind out of the water. He is an incredible prof and I find it an absolute privilege to have taken one of his classes. He is perfect at explaining every single aspect of the course, and his TA is awesome. Tests are extremely difficult so study hard. Highly recommended!
Amazing Prof, didn't miss a class all semester. His lectures are mesmerizing, and he presents in such a way that you can't help but pay attention. It was a huge privilege to have had him as a professor this semester. His tests are difficult, but that's to be expected since the material is deceptively easy. If you can have him as a prof, do it.
Arguably the best prof I will ever have. Tests are hard but you are completely prepared for them. Every single lecture was interesting and thrilling to listen to. Never ever skipped a class because they were so interesting. Is extremely helpful and so is his TA Shirley. LOVE LOVE LOVE Davies. If you have the option of taking his class DO IT.
I am privileged to take a class with him, he is an amazing man. His tests are relatively easy if you go to class because they are based mainly on lectures. The lecture hall was always jam packed even on a Friday afternoon. If you can take a class with him, do it!
What an amazing prof. He keeps the class involved during lectures and has the most amazing (yet relevant) stories. His tests are not super easy and you must attend lectures, but if you ask a question on an exam, he will give you all the help you need. Thank you paul you were an amazing prof!
His lectures are very interesting and he has no problem helping you on a test if you have a question. He is one of the best profs i had!
Great prof. He is very knowledgable, enthusitic and humorous. The lectures are very interesting. He knows how to keep students focused. The midterms are very fair. You are going to be fine if you attend lectures and keep up your pace with the materials.
Paul's class is interesting if you knew nothing about it going in. Friends of mine had taken it, and he does the same videos and jokes every semester so I was expecting everything already, which made it hard to listen and learn. Overall, a pretty easy course.
Amazing psychology professor! Presents interesting lectures every class, and keeps everything going for us to follow. It is easy to follow his lecture, but it is better to be present in his lectures. As he usually elaborates on the textbook and add extra materials. Sometimes even goes onto something that is not in the text book.
Professor Davies changed my life. Not planning to be psy major until I took 121 with him. Amazed a class could be so good. Hes inspirational!!! have taken 3 classes with him and theyre by far the best classes I've ever taken. Take whateverhe teaches, you'll be amazed too :)
From the first day I knew he would be a great prof. His enthusiasm for the course is contagious and is evident by a high attendance every class. His slides are fun and his discussion/ questions are relevant. Mid terms are finals are very easy
Amazing prof! I took Social Psych and Psyo 121 with him. He really works hard to make sure his students understand. He loves people asking questions in class and will clarify anything until you understand it. His tests are all multiple choice but there are a few tricky questions. Need to know your concepts. He'll answer questions during tests.
Paul Davies is awesome! He is the best professor I have had at UBCO
Paul is an amazing professor, if you are on the fence about taking psychology I highly recommend taking one of his courses, he will point you in the right direction!
Best lecturer I've had. I was actually genuinely excited for class because, other than note-taking, it felt like I was at a seminar by choice. 100% worth it to show up each class. Only minor dislike is that tests can be a little tricky as he asks questions that are mostly based on applying your knowledge, but they are very fair nonetheless.
Amazing lectures. AWFUL TESTS AND EXAMS. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. Just sneak in if you REALLY must see his lectures. NOT WORTH IT. Powerpoints not available elsewhere unless you have a REALLY GOOD reason.
Awesome lectures, but not the exams and tests.
Paul Davies has been by far my favourite professor at UBCO. Has the most interesting lectures and is super funny and engaging. If you have to take PSYCH 252 take his class!! Even if it's not required I highly recommend it as the class is pretty interesting itself.
Psyo 252 is easily the best class I have ever taken at UBCO; it was easy to understand, he kept the lectures interesting, and if you pay attention in class its a guaranteed pass on the exams! If you like to laugh and like multiple choice exams, this is the class for you! I would take this again just for fun! Make sure you take good notes!
Paul is hands down one of the best professors I have ever had. He can make any topic extremely interesting, and tries to tie in relevant news that can keep the lecture interesting. Make sure to ask him questions during tests because he is extremely helpful. He is energetic and you can tell he loves teaching. I highly recommend taking his class.
Davies is by far the best prof I've had. His lectures are great, he makes everything interesting and makes you want to listen to him. He uses a lot of real life examples to make concepts easier to grasp. If you're interested in the class, go to lectures, and study a bit you'll do good in the course. He's hilarious as well.
He is one of my favourite profs, if you go to classes regularly and take notes, you will be fine.
He can be a little boring, but this class is easy. And his objective is to help you decide if journalism is an interest of yours or not. He surely helped me decide.
Not sure who the guy below is talking about but its not Paul Davies at UBC we don't even have journalism classes here and Davies is a psychologist. I watched Davies speak to over 1000 students and parents this past weekend in the gym. AMAZING!!! Completely blew away the audience. Davies is the best speaker Ive ever seen in my life. Inspirational!!
Best psychology class and prof at UBCO by far. Paul is a fantastic lecturer and gives really fair exams. Focus on the textbook content mentioned in class and always go to lecture because the content is seriously fascinating !
Paul is an amazing professor. He is engaging, funny, and uses so many interesting examples. Definitely attend the lecture, not only because it's amazing, but also because the content covered in class is important for exams. Also study the textbook, the definitions and studies mentioned throughout the text are also on exams
Clearly, Paul is the best. He's passionate about what he teaches, and bring current events into lectures, which help make the 3 hours fly by. Make sure to skim the text for the exams.
Awesome
Paul Davies is truly the best professor at UBCO. He makes my 3 hour lecture FLY by. He is so incredibly intelligent and truly cares about his students. Very accessible in office hours, and so kind. HILARIOUS TOO. Tests are hard but reasonable, you definitely gotta study lots. Paul is everything you could want in a prof. Amazing.
Outstanding prof who really enjoy what he does, I would take any class he taught. Exams are a little difficult but manageable. GO TO LECTURES - cannot stress this enough, does NOT post lecture slides and he makes them enjoyable, trust me, you will not regret it, even his 3 hour classes are enjoyable.
He is an amazing lecturer and very interesting person to listen to. His exams are reasonable. However, he taught the entire textbook (650 pages) and the final was cumulative.
Pretty interesting lectures, made it worth showing up on a Monday night for 2+ hours. Lot of reading but didn't require newest version of textbook.
Amazing professor! He makes a 3 hour class seem so short and do-able!
Best prof I have ever had, hands down. Interesting lectures with added comical effect. He makes a 3 hour lecture enjoyable. Class is still hard though, you have to read a lot, but it is worth it!
Paul is a great prof and an amazing lecturer that makes three hours fly by. However, as much as I did enjoy the style of his notes, the midterms and final was very difficult. He doesn't provide much info of what you're expected to know from text, so you have to read all of it and he texts concept questions. Final was cumulative with 800+ text pages
Dr Davies is an incredible lecturer. However, he is the head of the department, so all of his lectures are in 3hr blocks. If you can't focus for that long (like me) I wouldn't recommend the class. He doesn't put his slides up on canvas either. However, I still enjoyed going to his class and he makes the most out of the 3 hours.
Great Prof! Would highly recommend him and Psych 252.
Davies does not try to trick you at all, he is very specific about what is going to be on the exam and sticks to that. tests aren't too hard if you study correctly. very good prof.
I came on here just to tell y'all how great his lectures are. he doesn't even make it seem like ur going through a lecture, he's super chill and casual, has organized notes and stuff. BEST part about this course is there are no assignments, with the heavy workload of other classes, his lecture style sure makes your semester feels less stressed.
Really interesting lectures and makes you feel very engaged with the topic with his passion towards the units but don't take this class if you have a weak stomach.
Classes are super interesting, definitely one of the only lectures this semester I actually look forward to. Professor Davies uses a lot of relevant and interesting examples in class. He definitely loves teaching this class and it shows! The tests are very straightforward as well. Highly recommend!
Seriously one of the most amazing professors. I could pop popcorn and watch his lectures for fun they are so interesting. You can tell that he really cares about what he does. I wish I could take another class with him.
Honestly, just a gem of a guy. Dr. Davies gives amazing lectures but make sure that you read the book he asks; a lot of his test questions are based on that. Such an amazing and interesting class!
Davies is truly captivating to listen to and makes 3 hours fly by. His lectures are so engaging and he manages to make people laugh even with the dark topics covered in this class. His tests are fair but can be difficult if you don't pay attention. One of my favorite professors I've had, would definitely recommend!
Absolutely amazing. The entire course is just Prof Davies lectures but he makes them so fun to watch, and you really feel like you're learning relevant stuff (also its hilarious). Study the slides and read over the textbook. Everything is multiple choice and for sure smth Prof Davies mentioned in the lecture.
This course should be called "Trump 101" instead of "Social Psychology", be prepared to have all examples in class explained through the professor's hatred of Trump. For a person that is foreign and doesn't care about US politics, this course is very frustrating. Also, all grading is on 2 midterms and a final.
Most inspirational class and teacher I ever had, feel lucky to have opportunity to take a class with Dr Davies, he inspires you to be a better person and global citizen
One of my favourite professors ever. Lectures were 3hrs long but always breezed by because they were so interesting. Very funny and charismatic. Read the textbook, most exam questions are based on textbook material. Loved the class and prof so much!!
A excellent introduction to topics within Social Psychology. The professor does a great job of supplementing the textbook with his unique and entertaining lectures. The exams are very fair with no "trick" questions.
Great person and keeps long lectures entertaining. He doesn't go over a lot of content (have to read textbook) because of his many examples that take a long time. This course was graded based off 3 exams and he allows a bonus for SONA participation. Tests were open-book and fair but some questions could be a little tricky.
His course really made me rethink about life, reflect on myself, value psychology more. He uses interesting examples to explain concepts. His lectures are never boring. Always interesting and inspiring. Fair exams. Genuinely thankful that I got to learn social psych from him. I never rated a prof before but I had to this time bc he was so good.
Reading intensive, and long lectures. The 1st exam covers 5 chapters, 2nd exam covers 4 chapters and the final is cumulative. I wish he had arranged it so that there would be 3 chapters for each exam. Lectures were dry, I was falling asleep, had to restart video. I regret taking his class, that's one semester of my life that I'm not getting back.
The course includes 5 chapters for midterm 1 (25%), 4 chapters for midterm 2 (25%), and there are 4 extra chapters after that, for a cumulative final exam (50%). There is the SONA 2% bonus. You need to read A LOT, textbook, and watch the lecture videos (1 hr+), information heavy. I wish the course had more tests worth less and no cumulative exam.
I cannot say enough amazing things about Paul. He is a wonderful human being who educates others with sincerity and honesty. I will be pursuing my PHD in counselling psychology with a focus in social psych because of him. Lectures are extremely engaging, exams can be tough and you do have to read the textbook to understand, but beyond worth it.
If you signed up, get ready to read! There's 3 exams, 2 = 25%, 1 = 50%, 2% bonus. A total of 13 chapters + lecture videos. I experienced so much stress over absorbing as much material as possible. I wish the course (less tests + barriers, more homework + engagement) was different. I don't recommend this course (unless with no Davies).
This was an entirely online course with pre-recorded lectures. In general, online courses tend to be more boring as they aren't interactive, but Dr. Davies was still a fantastic professor! I found myself looking forward to watching the lectures as they were humorous and interesting. Just make sure to take notes on the lectures and readings.
By far the best professor I have ever had. Dr Davies is an amazing person and lecturer. So inspirational, he has made me rethink my entire life. Was always disappointed when his lectures ended, they are so fascinating. Wish he would start a podcast so I could keep listening to him. But not an easy course or light workload.
Typically recorded lectures that are super long and full of information bore me but not this course. He pre recorded lectures and explained and taught the material so well that I look forward to his lectures. His test are straight forward and fairly easy if you watch the lectures. He's passionate, kind and loves his job. He even wrote me a LOR!
Spends most time on telling historical scandals and events that he thinks are related to lecture topics. Not much of textbook content is explained in lecture. He is funny. Many exam questions are from parts that he talks about in lectures. Some are not. Some exam questions have wrong answers as correct answers.
Very passionate about what he does, 3 hour lecture once a week but it's interesting so it didn't matter, simply wants you to understand the concepts he's teaching and walk away with some new perspective. Exams are applied but straightforward
Paul davies is an asbolutely amazing professor, the only lecture I look forward going to. Social psych is such a fascinating and BLACKPILLED topic, every lecture exposes the brutal human nature we'd normally deny, extremely thought provoking course.
Grade determined by 50% final and 50% midterm because he is afraid of AI. Content is SO interesting. Exams are hard, averages of 65-70. I feel like he wants us to do bad, the questions are so convoluted, making it difficult. His first time teaching in person, and its obvious. Also no office hours? strange guy
Amazing lectures, each like the best Ted Talk you've ever seen. I have never loved going to class like this before, or experienced a professor this passionate about their subject. Truly inspirational! You feel like applauding at the end of every lecture, and students often do.
good choice of textbook which makes the study progress clearer, but hard to follow and focus for me because of the low pace of speaking, heavily weighted exams.
SUPER interesting lectures, but I wish he would incorporate more textbook information. Aside from that, loved his class and was excited to attend every week. Includes really interesting real life examples. Wish I could have him again, but he doesn't teach any other undergrad classes :(
