Best history teacher ever. Lectures like he is telling a story...don't even need to read the chapter..shows videos that go with lecture. Easy term paper and I recommend him for anyone who has trouble with history cuz you won't in his class.
The nicest guy to ever teach history. I recommend Paul Dilley for those who want an easy grade. All you have to do is show up, take notes, take his quizzes ( i think there were like 6+ quizzes), do one 5 page paper, and no homework. If he was to teach any other history class I'd definitly take him again.
hella cool, really easy as long as you study the study guide. he's really laid back, research paper and quizzes are easy. take him!
Mr. Dilley is a good teacher, he makes history exciting... *hard on attendence *4quizes (easy grader) *two exams (takes in two parts...IDs one day, essay the next day) *one 5 page paper (your choice in topic 1865-2005) *plays alot of movies. *keeps the cl
Great teacher!
Dilley is an awesome teacher- he makes history very interesting and the way he lectures is good enought to make you pay attention and understand what is going on. His Lecture notes help on all quizzes (which are very easy). Midterm and Final are equally a breeze. Definatley reccomend taking him.
Very nice teacher!! He always tries to tie in jokes to the lecture. He outlines each chapter on the board for you. The quizes and tests are based on those outlines. Definitely recommend him if taking a history class.
very easy teacher i just didnt pass it because of my lack of studying or just short term memory while studying
All I can say is he is a great guy, and he tries not to make the subject of history boring. He writes the outline on the board, come to class everyday, takes notes, read the chapters, and you will do fine.
I figured out how Dilley grades. I noticed when I was taking a test in his class that he was correcting other blue books and all he did was glance over the book and made sure that the student filled out the whole page. He does not grade what you put in your blue book, he will only take away points if you don't fill out the whole page.
He's a really nice guy. All you have to do is write down the exact notes he writes on the board. all his tests are just writting in a bluebook, and if you write down what he wrote on the board you get a good grade. I didnt even buy the book and im glad bc i didnt need it
DONT BUY THE BOOK! All you need is everything he writes on the board. Hes a really nice guy and makes the class easy.
I highly recommend Paul Dilley to everyone interested in US history or if you're taking the class to simply gain credits. His 310 and 311 classes were entertaining and easy to follow. He doesn't assign homework and his grading system is based upon four quizzes, a midterm, a term paper, and a final. Extrememly easy A, take notes and come to class!
This teacher is probably one of the best teachers ever. His class is very easy to pass, just come to lectures and study of the notes that he will give you. Make sure to turn in the Term Paper as soon as possible, because he grades pretty hard on that. Overall he is very easy and funny. He has some good jokes, so trust me you will enjoy taking him.
i love prof. dilley! anyone who can make u.s. history entertaining at 7:30 am is in with me :) tests are straightforward, based on lecture notes that he outlines on the board; anecdotes always make me laugh. if you read the book to fill in additional facts from the lectures, you're good.
Mr Dilley is the nicest teacher at sac city. I was scared of taking history but he made the class very interesting. He is very helpful. I'm gonna take hist 311 with him.
Professor Dilley has a strange sense of humor, but you gotta love it. He keeps current politics out of the class for the most part, which is nice. Buy the book, go to the class, take notes (which he writes up on the board), and make sure you take every quiz and exam. There's also one 7 page term paper.
He is the best teacher ever!! I love his style, he makes learning fun. He does not try to trick you, he writes all of his notes on the board. If you study the notes and read the book you are good. This class is only 8 weeks so the reading can be brutal, but the tests are easy (if you read and go to class) all essay style with prompts to help.
Mr Dilley is awesome and funny. He is there to help with whatever you need. He is very nice and willing to reason with you if you have any issues re: your grades.
I usually HATE history and never do well. But with Dilley's class I got an A! Enough said...
Awesome, easy teacher. Very nice.
okay so i'm takin both HIST. 310 and 311 with him. HE is freakin awesome!Everything is straight from class lectures and what he writes one the board. if you dont take notes you will fail. test are not hard at all. if you've been there for the lectures and videos then you'll do fine. TURN in your term paper early you wont regret it!! trust me!! A++
Excellent professor! Very efficient use of class time, and great outlines for studying. TAKE NOTES, and DON'T MISS CLASS! I am a single parent and work full time, and the workload was manageable.
He's dope. Barely showed for class, just copied other's notes. Copped an A! Oh, and that's without cheating on tests! Yee! Also, completely BS'd the term paper. Copped another A! He's corny, but a sweet ol' man. Thas wassup.
Very good teacher. He's not interested in having class discussions on the topics, which I would have liked. 3 tests broken down by chapters, 1 seven page term paper, but double spaced. No extra credit allowed. Claims to be a stickler on attendance, but was kinda flexible. Read the textbook, and take notes for an A. Pick termppr topic early!
Easiest teacher ever. You don't even have to take notes or read the textbook--his tests are that easy. The term paper was a joke. Easiest grader ever. Instead of giving out B's, he gives out 98%'s. Also, very funny guy.
8 wk, TTH, 3hr class, but it was well worth my time. I got an A. He's nice & funny. Took 1 other history class before, dropped it, took his class instead, and all went well. Stay for lectures. The reading isnt necessarry, but it helps. Take his class & you'll do fine, don't worry. I definately recommend him, especially if you struggle with history.
Test are all essays and short answers and allows you to bring a dictionary. Reading is light if you take notes in class. Picky about grammer on term papers but a very lenient grader.
He is such a nice guy and helpful guy. I like his personality and attitude. His grading are reasonable and his test are fairly easy. I love him not only because he is a good professor but also because he's a funny guy. So take his class and you'll love it.
Worst teacher ever his teaching method suck. If you like writing than this is a class for you..didn't learn nothing in his class
Professor Dilley is the GREATEST history teacher ever! All you really need to study are his lecture notes and you have got an A. I dont see how anyone could not pass his class. He is sooo nice and understanding and also is very funny! 3 hours 8 weeks! soo worth your time, I liked him soo much Im trying to add his 311 right now. TRUST Me TAKE him!
GREAT TEACHER, Helpful, approachable, and funny during his lectures. He just asks that you show up and take the notes and even the one essay due a term to him you can turn in early so he can edit it for an A. Great man, great teacher.
Mr. Dilley is a very bright and funny guy! Great combo. If he was the only professor you ever had for every class you would never leave college. The 8-week class goes quickly, but he makes it fun and easy to learn. Very available before and after class if you need clarification; will even read your term paper rough draft and help you.
Extremely boring lectures. Difficult to study for tests. Study guides not very helpful. Positives: lenient grader; term paper only 7 pages.
Lectures are long and boring. He goes off topic a lot with the hope of making the class laugh, but never worked for me. He grades really hard and is very very particular. Not too east to talk to because he is very stubborn about his grades. Not a teacher i would reccomend, but the class is fairly easy as long as you take notes and read the book.
I really thought I never liked history, but the way he lectured it made it interesting. You go to class, take notes, and you take the test. Simple. And there's an easy seven page research paper. You'll get an A if you take good notes.
Had him for History of Western Civilization (I think that was 302.) If you really are interested in learning history, he is a great teacher. His bad jokes just make it that much more fun ;) He really cares about helping his students and if you go to class every day and take notes you will get an A easily. Really nice guy, I would take him again
Dilley is so silly when it comes to his lectures. His jokes aren't the best and often no one laughs but he is a really nice guy. His notes are clear and structured for perfect note taking. The class usually had a 1/2 hour for videos which was pretty dry. I managed to ace this class with out the book with good attendance.
Professor Dilly is a great teacher. He's very clear, and writes a great outline of what he's saying while he lectures making it easy to take good notes. He's very nice and lighthearted. I would definitively recommend him!
Great Professor! clear, helpful, fun and interesting.
Takes attendance daily, lectures straight from notes that come from the book (hardly used the book!) Gives 3 mid-terms during the semester & 1 paper. Tests were easy as long as you attended class. Very nice guy, always happy to help. Passionate about history.
Writes all his notes on the board (make sure you copy them down), tells you what will be on the test, is clear, and an easy grader if you put forth some effort. He keeps the class well entertained. I actually never fell asleep during it. I would suggest to try and not miss any of the classes because his tests are mostly from his notes.
Easy class, take good notes and you are golden. Make sure you follow the directions on the mid terms. Just fill out what is required and you will get full credit.
Such an easy class. It's sort of incredible. 7 page term paper sucks, but it's a topic of your choice and it looks like the only thing he graded on was grammar, anyway. Didn't buy the textbook and got 100% on all of the tests--just copy down what he writes on the board. He can go off on political rants at times, but he's a nice guy!
Great teacher and passionate about subject. His tests are from his notes. Book not necessary. Tests are quickwrites and short answers. He keeps the class entertained and his test reviews are FUN! He does love his soda break which is really unhealthy!!!
I don't understand how people passed this class so easily. Class is extremely boring (lecture & old videos.) Grade was based off of exams & one term paper which was the only easy thing about this class. Exams required written answers so you really had to know the facts. I Barely passed this class.
Class is extremely easy, almost impossible to not be able to get an A. There are 3 blue book tests that are directly from his notes, so if you miss class then you won't have the notes for the test. Never used or opened the book once. One term paper, topic of your choice, time consuming but he only grades on grammar. Easy A, take him!
Don't be scared! He's great! I am a high school student who took his class to bump my GPA up over 4.0, and it wasn't hard! He is really easygoing and his idiosyncrasy is enjoyable. The grade is based on a term paper, and three midterms out of the blue book that are not difficult at all.
Taking class on Friday and he still makes in interesting.
took his friday class and left half way through every time, never read the text book, tests are simple from the power points. easiest class ive taken in college. for sure A
Not a hard class at all if you study a little. Attendance is not mandatory but the more you go the easier the class is. You can get 100% on the tests without the book but the books helps expand on the notes he gives in class. He writes all notes on the board and answers all questions if he can. Cool guy and great class.
His teaching style is very boring, he just writes notes on the board and you copy them down. The book was nearly pointless as the lecture notes made up the exams. However, he is a good guy and tries very hard to make the classes interesting, and fairly easy.
Great prof and very easy class. He mostly just lectures with occasional videos. You have 3 midterms which consist of 1 essay question and 5 short answer questions along with a 7 page term paper. He grades fairly easily as long as you have an inkling of the material. Also We Played Jeopardy for our Final Review Session so that was fun.
He is for you if you are busy with work or other classes. Lectures follows the structure of the textbook; each subtopic is a possible question on the test. No surprises. Take someone else if you want more work, excitement, and inspiration. This is not high school: no homework, one term paper. Earlier edition of the textbook is ok.
1 big essay but he gives you the whole semester to write it, 3 tests that require lots of writing and one essay question. This class is super easy to pass, he lectures and writes down everything that's important about the lecture on the board for you. Just know the information he tells you is important and you'll do fine.
very easy! I took a different history class from him a semester ago. sat on my computer all class but still took notes (its possible but still take notes!!!) assigns one 7 page essay but gives 1/2 semester to complete, 4 tests uber, but they are essay tests (practically gives you the answers. Stays after class to help any student who choses to stay
Hes a cool guy thats pretty laid back, his lectures are long but he has a good sense of humor for dull topics many are interested in. Class is predicated on 3 exams 1 term paper and attendance, as long as you take down all the notes and study its very passable.
Easy as hell. You take notes and there is no homework. There are three tests which are super easy because he gives the prompts before hand so if you fail or dont do well its completely on you.
Prof Dilley is wonderful! He's been teaching for 40+ years so he knows his material and gives super clear and interesting lectures. He cracks me up, too. I don't remember ever feeling bored, despite so much material. Take notes and you'll pass, easily, and prob enjoy it!
By far the best history teacher at sac city. As long as you show that you care he is understanding and helpful. I would highly recommend you take all of your history classes with him.
He speaks super quietly so be ready to really have listen to hear him. He has dad jokes and adorable humor. Pretty boring overall, just copy notes from the board and he talks. He really does try to make it fun and want participation.
Professor Dilley is like that granddad that has a lot of stories to tell, only it's about U.S. History. As a previous review stated, he likes to throw in the dad jokes relating to the lecture (I enjoyed them). An overall nice guy and passionate about the subject, I would recommend everyone to take his class.
Probably the best history professor at SCC. Great guy thats understanding, laid-back and has a hella funny sense of humor (dad jokes). Just expects you to read the text at home, do a few tests, term paper and a final.
I hated this class the professor marked me absent several times throughout the class when I was there. The class is super boring and he makes horrible jokes throughout the class. I almost bought the book for like $100 but i found it online for free ended up not touching the book once. Be ready to take lots of notes. Test are super easy.
Though some people find this guy not funny, I found him pretty funny with his jokes. His exams follows accordingly to his lecture so it's really easy to know what to study.
Classes consist of copying down what he writes. Pretty boring overall but he puts a few jokes in here and there. Said he wasn't the "typical davis liberal" in the beginning but he definitely is. Anti-trump talk every lecture, some of which is just blatantly false. Besides pushing his politics, easy tests and only homework is reading. 1 term paper.
It's clear he's been teaching for a while and at this point is set in his ways. Although, he tries his best to make most of history , unless you're fascinated by history, you might fall asleep. His classes are the easiest I've ever taken. His tests are "fill the space" type of in class essays. You don't need the book and as long as you attend, A+.
Easy A. 1 term paper, 2 exams and a final. His lectures are mainly copying down what he writes. But honestly if you don't want to study for exams, make sure you listen to his lectures, makes his exams easy. Exams consist of short answers and an essay question; fill your pages up with relevant things and you'll get an A. He's pretty chill too!
Honestly, Prof. Dilley class is super easy and fun. Two exams (2 days exam), one final exam, and one project essay. If you are not good at writing, this class is for you. He won't care about your grammar for all the exam, but he will check grammar on your research paper. Easy A if you take notes carefully. A textbook is not necessary. Take him.
EASY A! first few weeks of school he does attendance at the beginning but after he doesn't take it until about half of class has passed.. only 3 exams one essay, no homework ever, no projects. he lectures for the entire period and has notes on the board so as long as you have it written you're good for the exam.
Amazing prof! His class is easy but he teaches it so that you want to learn the material! Super engaging, always cracking jokes, and takes attendance a little later in class after the first few weeks. Understanding of people's personal lives, too. 100% recommend history with him.
Super easy class. Only does lectures so you have to make sure if you miss to get it from someone. He's super nice and understanding. Doesn't give out any homework and does 3 tests the whole semester that are straight forward and easy because it comes exactly from your notes.
Took this over the summer. One of the easiest A's ever. The material itself was interesting but there is no need to read all of the book. Tests only, no homework. He provides lecture notes for each chapter. Tests and final are made up of 5 short paragraphs & a essay. Super caring professor! He will work with you if you are having trouble.
Class was consisted of 2 tests, 1 final, and a term paper. This class was very easy in my opinion and all tests were assigned on a Friday and would be due on a Sunday. If you have the chance to take professor Dilley, take him!!
While I took Professor Dilley's western civilization class in the only online year of 2020, I can say with much confidence that he is a good teacher. His online class is mainly based on text book and his lecture notes, which while a long read, is not hard to follow. He gave me three exams which were all passed easily with 100% and a 7 page paper.
I took professor Dilly online in summer 2020 for history 310. He is a really kind professor. There are four exams (basically papers). Im currently trying to get into his history 312 for this summer. I recommend him.
At first I was super intimidated taking his summer 6 week course, but professor Dilley made it less stressing with no homework at all. The only thing is you do have to do a 7 page term paper but he is a easy grader and lets you pick your own topic of history ! I am glad I took him for history 311
Great Professor; I wish I could take him again! He doesn't offer Extra credit but there's only 2 tests the whole semester and then the Final. He -- only-- tests you on stuff from his weekly lecture notes so always be sure to write down what's on the board. One 7-page midterm required as well but you get to choose the topic. Also, no homework!
I took his class in the summer. This class consisted of 3 exams and one term paper. Exams were an open book. Exams were made of 5 identifies and one essay (6 paragraphs) but he provides you a study guide and hints in the exam. The term paper was 7 pages. Highly recommend him if you are looking for an easy History class. Its an easy A.
Took an online class during the summer. Professor Dilley had clear grading criteria and was kind and understanding when issues arose. Read your textbook and you're good to go for this class.
Amazing!
Thank you, Professor Dilley You are a great professor. He was there to guide me thru the things that I needed to know thru the semester. He gives great lecture notes. If you follow that students won't have any problems with his class.
Prof Dilley was amazing. I was tempted to drop his course at first just because I couldn't follow the canvas layout, but I ended up sticking with it and really enjoyed the course.
Good teacher. We used a textbook you have to pay for. You may be able to find it for free online. No homework. Weekly discussions for attendance. Grades were mainly based off of tests. The tests are easy if you have the textbook. Tests are open book. Tests consisted of 5 terms and 1 essay. If you use the textbook, all the answers are right there.
Great professor.
Professor Dilley was honestly one of the best professors I've had. Took his 8 week course, but homework was not much except for a few discussions, 3 writing tests and 1 term paper (be prepared to read/write). I enjoyed his class and actually learned history. He's very understanding and flexible with late work, as long as you communicate with him!
I took his online 8-week course. Made sure to use the textbooks in my essays. He doesn't grade for spelling just content within each essay. Offers study guides and usually opened up tests earlier than expected. Responded to emails super quickly which was super helpful. Seems like a very chill teacher!
I liked taking Professor Dilley for this class. The class was very straightforward and didn't have much homework. Tests are more work but he's very upfront with what he expects on each test. Tests(3 of em) are essay ?s and a five-paragraph essay.
Took 310, great course structure. 3 major tests and 1 paper. Professor Dilley responds to emails fast and is willing to work with you if you need extra time. Super funny too :)
Dilley gives great and witty lectures. There are relatively few assignments. They are easy if you study, don't procrastinate, and keep up with the reading. The grading criteria are relatively clear, and he is a quick and fair grader. All assignments are on the syllabus with no surprises.
