Dixon made the course interesting and easy. We had cases and short multipls choice tests, that we had pretests for, and no final! He is very helpful if you go see him for help.

He is the nicest teacher! He learns your name,well at least makes an attempt and there are 100 people in the class. He explains things so well, and makes sure you understand, he won't continue if you don't. He is also the head of the co-op department.

I don't care if you don't like getting up early. Do you like understanding your class material? Do it the Dixon way. While other students struggled with understanding sensitivity analysis, he was able to admit he didn't teach it well enough the first time, and took a full hour to do it again. That's commitment. That's Dixon.

Best prof EVER!!! If your notthat strong in math, then Dixon is your man. This guy goes over all the details. After a while you get tired of it becasue you know it but that is the idea. If you take this class you will get a great make.

Prof. Dixon is a great teacher! There was probably over a hundred students in his section, and he still knew my name. He makes the course easy and very approachable. If you get a F in this course, it was your fault, not his.

Hands down the best University Prof. Go to class and pay attention and copy down examples because assignments are the exact same with different numbers. Teaches you so you can learn and doesn't try and trick you. Instead he teaches you the tricks. Textbook is not necessary. Absolutely awesome prof!!

Incredible Professor. One of those rare gems you have to be lucky to come across in University. Not only is he extremely passionate about teaching, his students (tries his hardest to learn everyone's names), and the subject, but he presents it in a crystal clear, linear fashion. There is no room for error, just fantastic, a must have for Quant I.

The best prof I have ever had. I am currently taking quant 2 (with a different prof) and he sent out an email to all of his old students saying he would help with any of the quant 2 problems, even though he isn't teaching it. I've never had a prof go so out of their way to help students. He will make quant crystal clear.

If you don't have Dixon as a prof for quant 1 you may as well drop the course. He's great at what he does! He'll only do one or two examples, but he does them very slowly so you can really take them in. Go to the lectures, he'll often answer questions about assignments (which are very fair, btw) SHOW YOUR WORK. I'm glad I'm in his class.

Fantastic prof! Very clear, helpful, and overall he was one of the best teachers I've ever had. At the end of the semester he mentioned multiple times that if we needed any assistance with finance that he's there for us. Probably one the most reasonable profs at SMU. Very nice, takes time to learn names. Will answer any and all questions. Talks about/ does real life problems in class. So glad I ended up in his class. He was more than a quant instructor, I felt like he coached students on how to be well rounded students probably without even knowing it.

Prof Dixon is a really nice guy who I believe genuinely cares about his students. Sometimes his explanations aren't the clearest, but if you get a chance to see him after class, he's better explaining one on one. Willing to answer all questions and actually tells you when his office hours are, he is a good professor.

Paul is great! He genuinely loves teaching which is amazing. He will go over questions in class until the class understands and is ALWAYS willing to help you out during office hours. There are weekly assignments but they are extremely helpful when preparing for the midterm and final. Take Paul for QUAN 1 if you can!

Paul is such a great and positive professor! He is always available after hours and loves to help his students. He explains things very well and always offers extra help sessions around exams. If you're not very strong in math and are a first year Commerce student, absolutely try to get in his class. Also, the textbook really isn't all that useful.

PAUL IS AMAZING. He was sooooo helpful. I struggled a lot with this course and expressed my concern and he gave me so much opportunity for extra help, he even followed up with an email wondering how I felt after doing the exam. He was a saviour for so many students and I am so grateful for all of the extra help he gave us with his spare time.

He gives great feedback and is happy to review something you find difficult. Attendance is not mandatory but I would not recommend missing a lecture.

One of the best professors at Saint Mary's, even though MGSC 1205 can be quite difficult for some people to understand, Paul makes it extremely easy with his examples in class, and how great he is with office hours. He'll probably talk some at the start of the year about how he likes to really focus on students, and he's seriously being honest.

SAINT MARYS PAY THIS MAN! Best prof/ teacher I've had in my 13 years of any schooling, easily the nicest and most genuine guy around whether were talking about professors or not. Point blank if you get the opportunity to learn from him take it , he's extremely nice and cares about each individual student as if they are family.

Simply the best prof at SMU. Any chance you have to be taught by this man take it. The course material is naturally difficult but he makes it as easy as it will ever be. He needs a raise cause no prof cares more than him about students. Super great guy only great things to say about him.

Biggest goat ever. Best quant prof says anyone. Literally was correcting work for people in exams. Emails back right away answering and explaining the question you're stuck on. Explains super well and good lectures. Very caring and understanding of students having problems and will always make accommodations. TAKE THIS PROF IF AT ALL POSSIBLE EVER!

If you get the chance to be taught by Paul Dixon, please take it!! Especially for quant. He explains things very clearly, and teaches in a way that course content can be related to the real world. Very approachable and genuinely a caring guy. You do need to go to class, but you don't need the textbook.

It is a hard class don't get me wrong but if you go to class and pay attention you will be fine. He is always accessible, he literally responds to emails within an hour. Take his class.

Absolutely amazing prof. I had trouble with a midterm, and he reached out to me offering me a second shot at it. As long as you pay attention to him, you'll have no issues whatsoever with his assignments, as the notes in class are very consistent with the questions on the assignment.

You will find no other prof that cares about his students more than Paul himself. He will do anything he can, not to get you a good grade, but to help you understand the subject (which inevitably gets you a good grade). His class consistently has the highest marks not only because of how he teaches, but how he connects with students.

What more can I say that hasn't already been said here? This is my third class with this guy, I'm just sad it's the last one I can take with him. He is an amazing professor, cares about everyone, and on the whole an all around respectable man. Just show up, listen, and ask questions when needed and you will enjoy his class. He is SMU's best prof.

best prof at smu hands down. Literally go the lectures and you are golden. Need extra help he literally says do not pay for tutor go to him in his office hours and he will spend from 20min to 2hrs going over what you need help in. Very respected loves to teach. I have covered all assignments w him 1 by 1 and went to class and bam A+.

Prof. Dixon is an amazing professor and if you're taking a math or stats course I would highly recommend. He is caring and will do anything he can to help students succeed in his class. Calculus was one of my least favorite subjects but I overall enjoyed his class as he made it less complicated.

He is the most caring professor I've ever met, and SMU should be lucky to have him. His assignments have clear grading criteria and if you attend the lectures you shouldn't have any problems with the assignments or exams. Take notes and pay attention during class and make sure you really attempt the assignments and you'll do great!

While attendence isnt mandatory but lectures are key to understanding. His note organization is a little all over the place, but he will go over material until you understand. Assignments can be hard but he responds quickly to emails, and is available in office. Often gives tips on assignments during start of classes, so show up on time!

This term, Paul was experimenting with MGSC 1206. Although there were some kinks to work out along the way, I thought Paul did a great job at teaching the course material! Although a lot of assignments (5 + 3 tests + 1 group project) I found them fairly easy to do if you attended lecture. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed.

Ok he's definitely a great prof. Especially when you compare him to others for Quant II. HOWEVER, THE NEW STRUCTURE OF QUANT II is just so messy. In my opinion, Dr. Dixon tried his best to adapt to the new structure, but it just didn't work. It's a weird mixture of stats, excel and math which is not enjoyable to learn at all. #newmgsc1206istrash

Paul is the best prof i had thus far. His teachings completely shifted my interest in the subject. He provides coherent information and will make sure to answer any questions with precise explanations. Having a prof with the enthusiam Paul expresses in his lectures makes going to class all the more worthwhile.

Paul is a great prof. Really knows his stuff and makes himself available to his students for questions. A lot of the material covered in Quantitative methods 2 has been changed, so he was very flexible on passing the newly designed tests. Overall one of my favourite profs at SMU so far. Really professional yet funny & approachable.

Regular quizzes and assignments, all relatively easy. Going to class not required, and is more than generous on grading and due dates. Almost too generous haha. Great prof, knows his stuff, and cares about the students. Also rounds up a test grade if you do all the discussions, which is just free points.

Very well one of my favourite professors, was able to explain all the concepts to us really well. Also very flexible and understanding if you failed a quiz or could not do it. He is very forgiving and curved my grade at the end.

Best prof at SMU! He truly makes you feel like a person and values students sucess. Allows late assignments if you email him. Shows tutorials on assignments if you find them difficult. Starts off every class with a convo about his cute dog dora! Classes are in person but are also virtual on zoom and recorded! Truly can not recommend him enough!

One of the nicest professors I have ever met. Teaches SOOO passionately with sooo much respect. He is always there to help and is very understanding. I love him so much 10/10 would recommend!!

He was so clear and concise in lectures. His material/textbooks were well thought out and the class was well organised. Weekly quizzes and biweekly tests/assignments. Examples and instructional lectures were incredibly useful. He was kind in any interaction I had with him. It's easy to get a good mark if you put in the effort.

The easiest class by a landslide. No final, super flexible assignment hand in dates and attendance is nowhere near mandatory. It gets hard occasionally to keep up with all the little discussion posts and chapter readings but even if any is missed, he is extremely flexible and will likely open it up again for you to get the best grade possible.

Best professor so far

He is so respectable and a fair man, I cannot stress this enough. His assignment tutorials are fantastic and help an extreme amount when you are lost. Incredibly fair analytics class and I would certainly take him again for a course with increased difficulty. I highly encourage taking him!

He is a lovely human being who understands students from a point of view most instructors do not. His grading is fair and he also gives flexible deadlines in case you are unable to meet the deadline, as long as you reach out. Very accessible outside of class and he makes sure you understand the course to the highest degree.

No bad things to say about Paul, did it online only on TopHat, no exam but 3 tests held on zoom. Slightly more difficult than expected compared to readings but not unreasonable, Held great tutorials for assignments and lots of helpful resources to increase your knowledge.

Paul actually cares about his students and keeps lectures succinct with the option to do do everything (except tests) at home. Weekly homework: assignments, quizzes, and discussion posts (with 4 tests total) but the actual content is easy if you stay on top of due dates. No midterm or final exam!

Loved this class. Assignments actually helped apply the skills I learned in lectures, and he even posted tutorials to show you how to properly complete the assignment. The tests were great because you didn't have to cram/memorize material since you were allowed a cheat sheet. It actually helped me retain the material after the course ended.
