Mr. Duax is one of the most refreshing teachers I have had in a long time. What I enjoyed most about his lectures are that when he teaches he is very animated and funny. You won't be wanting to fall asleep. He also discusses topics that really make you think and reflect on what's going on in this world. Take him for speech, and you won't regret it!

He is a really cool professor. He might be tough, but fair.

I liked this class very much. He is a really into his students and not just teaching from the book but trying to get us to think and use logic in any kind of situation. This is the first class I have had that I didnt dred going to.

Overall a great guy. Doesn't lecture much, but knows how to do it very well when he does. The grading is mostly done by other students ("judges" when you present your argument). The class is "pretty good." Not a whole lot of content, but I did learn how to present a prepared argument more eloquently. So far, looks like I will get either a B or an A

An open-minded, logical thinker who impresses me with his ability to ask pertinent questions for advanced clarity. Not an easy class but a class that will encourage you to think and know what is ambiguous. Not a class for those who like to work independently.

This professor is good for some and bad for others. When I looked at the ratings for him, I was confused, because half were really good and half were really bad. In short, I found it a very interesting and fun class, but there are few points given out and projects are very hard to ace.

Prof. Duax's was alot of fun. Group project and essay grades are based on how much effort you put into the assignmets and make no mistake; he can tell.

Not an easy class but if you are willing to put your effort in it, it's not really a burden. Make sure you come to class, take notes and read the book!

I thought Mr. Duax was a good teacher. He doesn't give points very easily - you have to work for them. He gave me a lot of help choosing topics and fine tuning my speeches. I think you have to want to improve your public speaking skills to like this class.

I've read what other people wrote about Duax, but I don't think he was that bad. He expects you to show up and he wants the assignments done his way. I don't see that as unfair. The guy really knows his stuff; if you actually want to improve your speaking skills, take his class. It's not an easy A, but if you work, you'll get the grade you deserve.

Duax is a great professor for those who like to think and be creative. If you need instructions for every little thing then you should not take him. Overall the class was easy but I learned a lot from it that I will use at a university level.

Mr.Duax is very helpful and gives a constructive critisism when needed,but do not slack-off because attendance counts toward your grade.Generally he is an excellent professor for everyone, specially if english is your second language you can not get any better professor at ARC.He is humerous/funny. too.

Got an A in the class. Surprised? Me too. I did the work, I was geniunely interested, and I payed attention. I worked hard, thinking that I at least deserved a B, but was surprised and relieved to find out that I got an A. Work hard for the grade, and you'll get it. If you're reading Duax, you're one hell of a professor. Hope you get tenure.

I thought that he was an odd teacher. He was always late to his classes, but then so was I. Seems very much like a flower child in the things that he talked about. He really likes it when you use examples from your life and apply it in your speeches. Choosing topics that aren't very controversial and that you can relate to is recommended.

Duax is totally awesome! he is fun and funny and very intelligent. he talk about current events. whoever said that he is too hard is stupid cus' he is very easy. if you do all of the work, even badly, you will still pass the class. i highly recomend him! his class was soo fun!

I think he was a great teacher! I think he just wants speeches to be insightful, and he also seems to be very picky about structuring your speeches well. This class was scary, but it was a great experience nonetheless and I think I'm more well-rounded because of it.

I didn't always agree with what he had to say, but he was a solid teacher. He will challenge you on stage if you don't put in effort, but you do have a lot to learn from this guy. I enjoyed his class thoroughly

He's intelligent and a good speaker, amused me when he chose Shakespeare's Julius Caeser as our text. He has a habbit of taking out his life's woes on his students' speeches, on more than one occasion he destroyed a helpless speaker for mundane errors. There is a lot to learn from this man, but it's a gamble if you'll end up on his good side.

I took group communication, so the speeches weren't that bad. He does grade on how you approach the topic and show competence though which shouldn't be too hard if you are a thinking human being. His tests were easy as long as you study the key terms and he is a stickler on grammar. I got an A easily and I didn't even really talk to him.

I love him. He is my future husband.

He is a very tough grader. i'll give you an example of how he grades: the research paper is only woth a 2 points, if you miss even one comma, he will take a point off. you can no longer get anything above an F. horrible grading system with no chance of revision.

I love this class. I love Duax's humor. I learned a lot. However, he is particular about the format of assignments, but don't let that discourage you. He's a good teacher. I would definitely take his class again.

Duax is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He's hilarious and he will make you laugh the entire class. Just don't have thin skin, some of his comments may offend you. Group assignments were easy, as well as his papers. Take him while you can, he's well worth it. I want to marry him every time I'm in class with him.

Easy and Duax makes it fun. If you are a good, committed and normal college (not high school) student that does your work, you will agree. It's just speech people, not Rocket Science. It's an easy "A" and if you didn't get one it's definitely not because of Duax. I can assure you, I didn't get the "points" for an "A" but I got an "A"!!!

If your late to class every once in a while then this is the class to take. Your not docked for being late because he is usually a few minutes late every day. He is openly moody so make sure you are one of the first speakers of the day and pick topics that are not the typical things that people talk about.

Paul Duax is fair. I enjoyed being in his class. I learned alot in his class. In his class you tend to build a relationship with your classmates. You will find some students rude and inmature, and Duax will call you on it. He is not afraid to speak his mind. Great teacher.

This is the hardest "A" I ever earned. Public Speaking puts you to the test and Duax is a very hard "A" but it is the most rewarding experience when you finally earn one from him. He is very helpful if you ask for help. He will call you on your s*it if you mess around or make stuff up. Once you reach the end you will be glad for the experience. A++

Duax's a roller coaster ride. Often take things out on the class or the first person who got on his bad side. He tend to speak without thinking and often say things that rub people the wrong way if they take it to the heart. But he's very fair and helpful. Beware of grammar on essays. He wants people to use common scene. All test is from the book.

Rambles on about personal life and beliefs. Likes to hike and somehow manages to talk about it every day. Brings up his very liberal beliefs on current events and politics that tended to make me mad. Grades hard on speeches, very hard to get and A on a speech, generally you will get a B or C on speeches.

Good teacher. Very tough grader. Teaches by example. Not much homework, but if you don't work hard and practice your speeches you will fail the class. Expect to get a bad grade on your first speech, but if you work hard it's all uphill from there. I learned a lot, and thought the teacher was interesting. I'd take another class with Professor Duax.

Professor Duax gives everyone a fair shot. If you don't plan on working hard, do not take this class. He is always available to help you fine tune your speeches and debates, so you can't say that he doesn't grade fairly. If anything, he is too nice. He is an awesome teacher.

I took his Group Discussion class and it was wonderful. He likes to tell stories, but they're usually really funny. There is primarily group work, but he gives you chance to do assignmnents on your own. He grades pretty easy and wants students to do well.

Overall, he is a nice and knowledgeable man, you just need to work very hard to get him interested in your speech. He has heard plenty of speeches, like yours. So, try to bring something special to stand out in the crowd.

Duax is the man. His class was upbeat, and I became a much better public speaker because of him. His stories are hilarious, and he is very straightforward. By the end of the semester I was dying to go first when it came time for speeches he made me so confident. Take his speech class, you won't regret it.

Great teacher great person, witty and keeps you one your toes, picky about certains things but inspires and challenges students to think differently I would take any class this man teaches. He can be harsh but it works if you don't take it personally n treat it as a challenge to do better.

What most of his students don't realize, even though he tells you repetitively in class, is he cares about you pursuing your education and about your success. As a person he's nice, funny, and overall a cool guy to be around. When he gets in front of the class he turns into a monster. Even at times he can become very rude. His speech class was interest but far from easy. Definitely have to be a motivated student to pass his class with a B or better.

If you need to be led by the nose to your A, this isn't for you. If you want an A, pay attention, do exactly as he tells you, and don't speak unless you can back yourself up. He has little tolerance for unsubstantiated claims and he doesn't like to repeat himself. Great class! Enough extra credit to pull an A if you miss points in the beginning.

Prof. Duax is a pretty good teacher. It's pretty simple, show up , do your speech and you will do well. 5 speeches, 2 quizzes , pretty easy stuff.

He is a tough grader, but the material is not difficult and he makes lectures a lot of fun. All age groups and genders in the class found him funny, interesting, and easy to engage with. I would definitely take a class of his again if I needed to.

Considering he teaches persuasive and debate classes, expect to encounter topics that are touchy and can even be considered offensive. Duax is brash, but a very good teacher. If you pay attention, you're all set. He's very willing to answer questions, but it is clear when he wants you to find your own answer. Verdict: Tough but effective, teacher!

Paul Duax is 1 of those Professors that makes you love college. Id choose him over any speech teacher at ARC. His books are never expensive yet the material in class is amazing. I had a Debate class with him, and I had to defend an arguement I did not genuinely agree with outright. But after doing my own research. It Made me Smarter Duax is Amazing

I'm a 2.0 student and passed his class with a B for his interpersonal com. I'd thanked him before but to let you all know that when you leave his class, he makes you feel like you knew everyone in the class. He is pretty funny in my opinion, dry jokes makes it all the funnier. Super honest and real dude. Just be real with him and he will with you.

Great professor. First time I took a class and got to know each and every student on a personal level. We all sit in a circle and just talk. We share our stories and everyone feels free. He is great at interpersonal communication. Funny and very understanding. We had people going through really difficult life events, they found support here.

Duax is an awesome professor His lectures are sometimes random but are hilarious. At the end of the semester you feel like you know the whole class. The class is not worth a lot of overall points though so its difficult 2 maintain a high grade but if you show effort and that you care about your grade Duax will most likely help you. Easy class. Easy professor. I didn't have any issues with his class rules, lectures, or personality (I found it entertaining). I was more annoyed with the students-some of my grades depended on them and they were terrible to rely on. I almost got a B because of that. Otherwise, gives enough extra credit to raise a whole letter grade, so thanks!

One of the best professors I have ever had. Paul Duax treats you like an adult so as long as you act as one. What he wants is students who can apply critical thinking skills, something seemingly uncommon. His class is not hard as long as you give effort in your work. I will be taking a 3rd class with him. He is a very smart man.

I missed class many times last semester because of family emergencies and my job hours; I even missed my second group project performance; He was very understanding. I took Duax's debate and group discussion courses. Both times I felt like I learned a lot. Duax regularly provided stimulating material and even brought in the coauthor of the textbook, James Murphy, to guest lecture. Duax does want you to put in an effort to actually learn something, so if that's not your thing look elsewhere.

Professor Duax is very smart and knows his stuff. He always answers emails and he is always willing to help. If you attend class, participate, and you are an adult you will learn a lot from Professor Duax and you will pass. Don't miss a bunch of days and expect to pass. With that said, he allows you to have more absences that other professors.

Duax is very easy to read, so understanding what you're getting into on day one is exactly what you'll be doing. He asks for a simple few assignments and asks you just make a clear and concise statement with your speeches. So long as you can elaborate and provide examples, you will get an easy A. He also responds pretty quickly to e-mails as well

I have taken Prof. Duax for my last 3 communication classes at ARC. He gives great feedback and really wants to help his students succeed. Obviously if you skip class, dont do homework, arent ready for your speech on your assigned day, or come to class unprepared you wont do well. Thats is a given. Just do the work and he will meet you half way

I took professor Daux two times in two different classes of speech. He is one of the wonderful professor that I like at ARC. Easy professor, do your assignments and get easily A. Email if you find anything difficult he will help and accept a reasonable excuses for doing late work. Nice and respected person.

I took speech 301 and missed a class or two for certain reasons and he was very understanding, he treats you like an adult and he expects you to act like one. You cant use your phone in class but there isnt a need too. The speeches are fun and the class was fun, the professor has fair grading and grades based on what you deserve. Love the class

I took professor duax for speech 301 and he was an awesome teacher. Highly recommend taking him if you are a shy person and you do not like speaking in front of people he will help you to overcome that fear if you have it.

I took Duax Spring 2021. Show up, be an adult, produce work that shows you care and be ready to leave the class a better speaker. I was a high B the whole semester, then on my transcript he bumped my final grade up to an A, without that A I would not have received a 4.0 gpa for the 17 units I took my 1st time in college. THANK YOU Mr Duax!

You can get by just show up to class every day and take notes . You won't really have to read the book until you want to refresh for 1 page papers, essays, or group assignments. WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GOOD GRAMMAR and refresh on MLA format. You can have a 4 point assignment and lose 25% of that grade due to ONE error.

I did learn a lot because we did a lot. Idk about retaining it. Lots of assignments that were doable (weekly discussion boards, read small chapters, also read Julius Caesar w/ a quiz, 1 essay, like 3 other assignments), 5-7 speeches (rubrics are helpful, listen to lecture,) he has an idea of perfection and he would like students to reach it.

Group Communication was a difficult comm course. The number one thing is that you must attend, turn in work and participate in the group project. What I learned here is invaluable during a research project I am doing currently. I recommend this course for any STEM majors. The final was easy. You will have to read the textbook over the course.

I do not usually rate professors. But prof. Duax has been a very good teacher. Sure, grading is little tough but that's about it. you will never be bored in class and learned something for sure. He is a great professor I enjoyed his class. Really caring and was respectful and nice to me the whole semester, whenever I needed more time for any assignment he gave me. His lectures weren't boring, his ONLY goal is for you to learn something. most of the weeks there wasn't any assignment. gives so many extra credits. it's a good class to take.

Gives feedback for speeches but grades strictly. Really fun class in general, gives good advices for speech. Interactive, talks to students. Possible to get a B and talking about something you love in speeches. Overall pretty good, fun, liked that class
