Dyson=great professor. Very young, he sometimes (rather, always) gets sidetracked. But his random stories (which take up first half of class) are hilarious and do segway into material. This Guy is amazing. i love his class he always talks about random and funny things. and as he always says he is a fountain of useless knowledge, but i actually think that his knowledge is what makes the class fun. and if you wanna hear him talk about something which i liked just ask him to tell you the history of the F-word lol. he is the greatest

Dyson is great. He is extremely intelligent, friendly, helpful, approachable, clear. Made assignments fun+interesting. I always felt like I could relate to/joke with him but also totally respected him as a professor which is a great mix. His "useless knowledge" was actually helpful as he covered things I was scared to admit I didn't know! A+.

I have not had a class with him but he came to sub my sc-fi class for a couple days when he could. He seemed like he would be an awesome professor. I think it may be time to give this guy a shot at the upper level English.

Dyson was the best professor that I've ever had. He made the class extremly fun and interesting. He also took the time to make sure all the students were engaged using funny stories and work. He had us read Watchmen (a graphic novel) for one of our books, which I thought was the coolest thing. I highly reccomend him

Very personable, takes the time to get to know students and is very friendly. Tries to relate to the class with pop culture references which makes things more interesting. Tends to stray off topic but he eventually gets the point across. I'd refer him to a friend.

He is a bundle of energy, or red bull and can talk till the sun goes down. He will however eventually get back to his original point. His approach is un-condecending and conducts class in a manner that is highly respectful to students. He teaches his concepts in a casual (but speedy) conversational style. 3 Books, 3 papers. Oh ya, and he's hot!

One of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure to learn from. Uses current literature and interesting works to keep your interest. Reading "The Watchmen" in class was a great experience. Paul is a great man and makes you realize why you're in college to begin with. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!!!!

He is indeed a story teller lol! He has a story for everything! Even your name. Really nice professor who wants to see his students succeed. Highly Recommend him. There were 3 major essays and they were all reasonable. He even cancelled classes for one week so that he may meet every student in his office and discuss there papers. Cant say enough!!!

Don't know where to start with this man. Book choices are fantastic. 2 major papers and 6 2pg journal entries comprises the entire course work aside from obvious reading. Always has a story to tell. Early 30s but I could easily relate to him which made class that much better. Love the dude loads.

Funniest English class I ever had. Makes the class very fun and interesting. Assignments were also not too bad and he offers plenty of encouragements and help along with reminders. You won't be disappointed being in his class.

I took this teacher for both 101 and 102, and he is fantastic!!! He has you write 3 essays and lets you rewrite them if you do bad. He must spend hours and hours working on grading, because he is not lazy at all. He has awesome discussions and great stories, and I highlz reccomend him!!! ... and that means something, because Im critical on here!

He's super sweet and respectful. He'll go above and beyond to help you if you just ask. Please treat him with respect, he's a nice guy. Smart, funny, and has ADD! You'll want to marry him at some point during the semester, guaranteed.

Really easy professor, easy A. Talks wayyy too much (stories not academic related). he's boring but his class is easy only 4 major essays. As long as u do the essays you'll be good. No need to listen to him in class.

He is the kind of teacher that everyone hopes that they get in college at least once. Teaches you some great life lessons. You will really actually enjoy his class so make sure to always go and listen! He is hilarious, a wealth of random knowledge and a tad ADD, but an excellent teacher none the less. First of all Dyson lifts so hes cool. Second his class is jsut funny and amazing, its like a hangout time for discussing some reading. Third hes like that professor you want throughout your college career.

An amazing teacher and an amazing person. This class was originally designed for veterans, but he does his best to be very inclusive of non-veterans. He's a big nerd and will ramble on. Some people hated that, but I loved it. Not many quizzes, not a ton of reading. He really cares about his students as people on an individual level, too. Friendly.

One of the best English professors i've ever had. His semester would include (but is not limited to) reading the graphic novel Watchmen and dissecting the philosophy of vigilantes and superheroes, Spirited Away and the young female protagonist, Fight Club and its rebellious themes. Discussion is heavy and insightful in this class.

DYSON! Easily entered into my top five all time favorite teachers (middle school through college) after this semester. Got an A, did all the papers, participated in class, and enjoyed the living bashnuka out of this class! Knows what hes doing and if you need tips on dead lifts... he's the guy for the job! ;)

As long as you show up to class and do the work, you'll receive an A. I was always in class(not necessarily paying attention) and every class he seemed to have another life story to tell the class. Overall easy stress free class, you won't really need the book bc we only use it for the first paper & the readings are online.

Dyson is a really fun professor, will always make you laugh. The readings he gives are also very enjoyable to read. We had 3 papers, two short essays and one research paper. Overall not a stressful class but you still have to write the essays to get an A.

Never have I ever enjoyed listening to a professor lecture like PD. INSPIRATIONAL on all fronts. 3 essays, two shorties then a "long"ish research paper... I spent about one quarter of a day on it (6 hours more or less) And got an A! Take this guy and youll remember me and thank me

English is hands down is my least favorite subject, yet this was the only class freshman year that I actually wanted to go to. You will have to do three papers and a few other small assignments that were enjoyable to write. Each paper had a fun topic to write about. Dyson is also really nonjudgmental which is rare in professors these days.

I absolutely LOVED Dyson's class. He is the most chill person ever and actually made English fun for me! I definitely take his class again. The class is well structured and has an appropriate amount of homework with just three paper for the entire class! One has to take his class to get the true college experience. Less textbook, more lecture.

Very easygoing prof & made his lectures as enjoyable as possible. Wasn't a rubric tabular and I think I liked that the most about him. Treats his students as colleagues instead of just students--with that said, only 3 papers thru the course but as it is an English course, don't expect an easy A on them unless you put a bit more effort into them.

By far one of the best teachers I've had. He really cares about his students success and values teaching itself which is a great quality to have in a teacher of course. Dyson is a total sweetheart. He cares for his students and he honestly loves his job as a professor. With that being said, you shouldn't take him too lightly. His class consists of 3 major papers and participation. He gives out light homework assignments here and there as well. But if you do not do the major papers, your grade will suffer.

Dyson is such a nice guy, really funny and cares about his students a lot. He loves to talk but his class is never boring. In terms of assignments you will only have to write three papers about 3-4 pages in length all on very flexible and interesting topics. This class won't give you many problems at all, its very laid back and fun.

Hands down one of the best teacher I have had. He is full of crazy and funny stories, always willing to help, keeps class fun, and doesn't overload with work. Rarely gives homework, about 3-4 papers throughout the semester that were very reasonable. I would 100% recommend Dyson and wish I could take his course again.

Paul Dyson is one of the most respectable educators I have ever know. He is down to Earth and reasonable. His time in the military has made him a true leader, and one that you feel you can trust. I may be biased, because I'm a vet, but I would take any class of his, on any day.

He is such a great professor. Deff do not want to miss an opportunity to be in his class. He is funny and class is never dull. Also he rarely gives written homework assignments its more that YOU should do it because its part of your education instead of an actual grade. Also 3 papers during the semester two short 3-4 pg. and one 5-8 pg research.

He's a great professor however his class was very useless the whole time he talks about random thing that have nothing to do with English. He tells a lot of stories about his life but overall it was okay. There isn't any homework just reading sometimes he only gives 3 papers which are very easy and straight forward.

Dyson is a really good professor and he is very knowledgeable on what he teaches. He likes to go on rants sometimes that are off topic but he's funny so it okay. Only gave 3 essays and he isn't a hard grader.

Dyson is the great professor, doesn't leave any stone unturned to help his students. Easily available in the class and via email round the clock, an hour with him doesn't feel like you are taking a class it feels like a break between the classes. I highly recommend to take this course with Dyson.

This class is easy to get a good grade in. Show up, participate a few times and you should be fine. He does not take attendance but I don't recommend skipping class. There is barely any homework, and if there is, he does not check it or ask for it to be turned in. He usually assigns short poems to read and we discuss them in class. Love this class.

He assigns 2 group projects that you get full credit for as long as you participate and 2 papers which he gives feedback on if you ask and allows revisions. Easily one of the best English Professors at UMB. Took him both for ENG101/102, and I am surprised I got an A in both of these classes, even though during grade school, I keep getting straight B/C in English because I suck in English. He allows revisions, brings snacks, and is overall, extremely easy. Plus, he doesn't even have tests, just 3 essays

A king, an icon, a legend! Professor Dyson is by far my favorite professor thus far. If you want a good grade cor Comp 101, please take his class. He is a very fair grader, a great conversationalist, and very personable. He is also very easily accessible and is always willing to look over your work.

Very respectful and caring, gives nice lectures. His class is comfortable to take. Some readings but not a lot, he also receives revisions of paper until youre satisfied with the new grade. Overall an amazing professor, strongly recommended:)

Best professor ever. He has a good sense of humor and gives little to no homework. Sometimes he gives readings, but he doesn't really care if you don't end up reading it. His gives three papers to write and each of them are very simple and straight forward. If given the chance to have him as a professor again, I would do it in a heartbeat.

He is genuinely one of the best English professors at UMB. The 3 papers he assigns, (2 papers 3-4 pgs, 1 final research paper 5-8 pgs) are clear and honestly fairly easy. He does assign readings, however, it doesn't really matter if you read them or not. Very talkative and you can just tell how much he loves his job. Definitely take him if you can

Hw is very little and usually consists of reading and taking few notes. He makes lectures interesting with his jokes and side tangents. You have three major papers and the he makes the prompts flexible, so you can write about topics that interest you. Hands down one of the best english teachers.

If you are looking for an English 102 teacher. Look no further, because Professor Dyson is the most understanding professor. You'll learn a lot in his class and the 3 writing prompts are clear with plenty of room to incorporate your creativity.

Aside from lengthy preambles to his less than topical stories and his chicken scratch handwriting, great prof that'll give it to you straight most of the time. Oddly, too generous with hearing students' remarks that he often loses track of time. Book selections are hit or miss.

The best English professor at UMB you could get in every way. I transferred out nearly a year ago, but I really miss talking to him. Incredibly cool and relatable, gives outstanding feedback, super easy, very caring, really funny, & makes you think; what more could you ask for?
